But this made me think. Waterbenders can control water molecules and can bend anything the water will bring along. That is why they can bend blood. But waterbenders are also capable of NOT picking up objects that the water is carrying. So they can also dehydrate people, flood their lungs, flood their bladder, flood their digestive track, in turn giving someone diarrhoea, they can give someone a cough and a cold by increasing the volume of their mucus.

This means waterbenders would make great medics, btw. Any water is potable water. Everything is a water container. The most powerful water bender should be able to turn water into ice or steam, access groundwater in the deserts, and be able to make canals and streams.

The earth bender can bend a select range of minerals, but if they work really hard on it, they can bend any of them. Like toph did.

Strong earthbenders should be able to manipulate the very structure of molecules of the minerals so that they can sit on top of one another in a way that makes them pliable, malleable, strong, springy, etc to form the right shape and the right type of earth.

Like the water benders, they have the ability to add pressure and also control the movement of the rocks. Boomi and Toph already demonstrated what crazy fighters earthbenders can make. But i also think about how easily they can poison someone, oversalt them (dehydration 2.0), and calcify organs while the person is alive. They can cause bone cancer, they can break teeth, crush bones to powder, and puncture the internal organs. Manipulate bones did not even cover it.

They could manipulate armour to move to fight wars for the country. They could set flintstone fires without being there. They could weave metal into fabric. So many possibilities. I'm not even mentioning the industrial use, i believe LoK covered that?

Air benders and fire benders are different. Fire bending is easier to cover on an atomic level.

So they can bend heat, basically, right? But also, for some reason, they can channel electricity. The conclusion i am coming to is that they have command over the kinetic energy of individual electrons. That is why it is hard to master.

But this opens possibiliti3s. So i joked that they could modify the electric signals in the brain, but they literally could. But they can do so much more. Because this isn't atomic, it is subatomic. Yes, they can heat (and cool) things. Yes, they can use electricity. But if they can move electrons? So much more. They can change the properties of things. I can't even begin to list them. They can cut things, they can mend things seamlessly, and they can perform alchemy, changing the very structure of the atom. But that means it is an extremely volatile ability. Even the strongest bender would have to work these things one at a time or risk radiation.

Lastly, we have airbenders. There's two things that could be manipulating just air. One, they can move only free atoms. Which actually fits in with the heirarchy of molecular bonds of earth bender, molecules of water benders, airbenders with free atoms, and firebenders with subatomic electrons.

The other one would be the ability to create vacuums in space, and the air follows the small vacuums. Seeing how rigorously airbenders train, that seems the likely option despite the harmony from the other one. And then, the air bicycle is not possible. Which means. The airbenders just were into aesthetics and acting like a cult. Oh well, that's ok.

Aang has proven that airbenders can lift things with air. Heavy, dense things. They can probably aerosolise any atoms. Basically, they could pick atoms to put next to each other and let them form molecules. Airbending air out of lungs is probably the easiest thing. They can literally travel to space and make their own space suit. Out of air. Their scuba diving gas tank can be made out of literal air.

Is she the most hated though? A lot of people are Azula fans, I am too, I just personally don’t like what they did to her in the comics. I think other characters are more hated, like Zhao and even Boomy

made this one on my own because i felt like doing some truth telling. Gene Yang used Sokka as a mouthpiece in The Search to prove this exact point. ATLA reddit is a cesspool of evidence. It’s also why Bryke insisted on making Azula look older than she is.

I got my Long Beach Public Library card today and checked out Slade House by David Mitchell. I haven't read Mitchell in years, but I loved Cloud Atlas so much I read it twice, so I'm sure there will be something here for me with this book.

Amy's finally up and walking around again after 4 solid days of being totally bedridden. She tested negative for Covid twice, but whatever it was really knocked her out. She described it to me like a constant head pressure growing tighter and tighter, like her head was getting squeezed. Sinus headaches, fevers, and a dimness of hearing due to the pressure. Apparently there was a moment last night where her ears popped, the pressure alleviated, and everything sounded incredibly loud because she could suddenly hear again. I think there's only a handful of times in our lives where we get "that sick," and I think this was one of those times for her. Glad to have her back!

Labor Day weekend is one day away, and it looks like it will be a packed weekend. Friday night is dinner with George and Keisha, after which I'll record a VO demo reel for George. He's got a deep and boomy, but also educated sounding voice. He's got the basic ingredients, but I wonder if he'll be any good! At any rate, he's become a good friend quite fast and I'm glad to be hanging with him one on one.

Saturday we celebrate Sierra's birthday with beach, dinner and drinks. Sunday we go to Bryce and Andrea's beach house in Laguna and stay the night. Will probably stay for a while on Monday since we have the day off. You can't go to Laguna in the summer and not swim in the ocean, it's sacrilege!

I've been using the Abberant DSP Cassette Tape plugin that Spencer recommended. It's really, really cool, and I gotta say, it actually makes whatever sound you feed it sound like a cassette tape. You can affect the sound by making it cleaner and more of a gentle tone, or make it sound like old, warbling cassette tape with wow & flutter. I used it yesterday on "I am Mother Nature's Slut" and it really added a cool, lo-fi sound to it, though I think I'll want to dial it back on the guitars a bit. The temptation to overdo it, especially when you're playing with a fun new toy, is overwhelming.

1. favorite fic you wrote this year

This is such a good question! I'm gonna have to go with a tie between fumble around the failing stars (rated M!) and this is his body, this is his love (rated E!)

"fumble around the failing stars" was so fun for me to write. Like, to the point that I was actually making myself laugh out loud. And I'm so happy with my Kyoshi Warrior OCs and with the relationships I've built between them and Suki. Ultimately this was a really self-indulgent fic. I've always really loved, like, "gal pal" time in romance novels and rom coms, and I really wanted to create that for Suki, and I just had such a blast doing it. Plus, I think it's a neat take on "first time" stories, and it explores a not-so-perfect moment in Sokka and Suki's relationship, which is always an interesting dynamic to play with. :)

"this is his body, this is his love"...oh man...I worked so hard on that one lol. I actually think I overdid it a bit, but I'm still pleased with the outcome. I challenged myself a lot with this one. First of all, it's in present tense, which I never write in, but which felt necessary for the tone I was trying to create. I actually started it in past tense and then rewrote it in present tense, which is hard, y'all! And then, I was attempting to do something very specific with the imagery, trying to balance being very sensory while still creating a feeling of urgency, and for some reason, that was very difficult for me, too. I kept getting bogged down in details, or making the whole thing feel slow and lazy. Working on this fic was like chiseling through stone, haha. But ultimately I'm super happy I was able to wrangle it. Ask me sometime about how the imagery that I used to describe Suki shifts over the course of the fic. I've always wanted to talk about it. 😉

14. a fic you didn’t expect to write

I have no idea where this one came from, lol. I wrote it for the "Ember Island" prompt for this year's Sukka Week, and, I mean...I have a ton of ideas in my head for Ember Island missing moments, but this was not one of them! All my ideas are very fluffy, romantic, Sokka and Suki making out on the beach kind of ideas. But this one came out all broody and introspective. 🤷‍♀️ It was a very cool experience writing this one, though. One of the only times I've ever sat down without knowing ahead of time where I wanted the story to go, just letting it materialize line-by-line. It was very zen!

18. current number of wips

Okay, only counting WIPs that I have an actual idea for and not docs I started that have a single sentence in them but no premise or anything... 9ish?

My main ones are "the words to keep you" and this post-war recovery fic I've been planning for a while. I also have a couple modern meet-cute ideas, a couple post-canon ideas, a couple missing moments from canon I wanna write, and a missing scene from "count herself among them" in the works. Oh, and that fic I'm writing to bribe you, Boomie, into finishing Courtship of the Earth. 😈

I can never chose just one for these things! I recommended a bunch of fics in this answer and I am happy to share more!

First, those stories written in your skin by @krastbannert, definitely a fic everyone should read. It's Zuko-centric from Sokka's POV, and is a really cool take on what Zuko and his crew got up to during those three years Zuko was at sea chasing the Avatar. I love how Krast captures Sokka's voice, and I love all the seafaring lore and the depth it adds to ATLA universe. Sukka is implied, but it's not a Sukka-centric story.

Next, bruise belies the break by eleonorastay. This is a WIP and there's only one chapter so far, and I really hope it gets updated someday, because the way the stage has been set so far is very compelling. Everyone's personalities have been captured so well, and it seems so promising!

Between Victory by sukkavore is a wonderful little Sukka missing moment. I am a sucker for immediately-post-war stories, and this one packs so much into a relatively short scene.

And, something completely different because it's not even tangentially Sukka, although it is Water Tribe fam...This is Brutally Beautiful (So Are We) by @justanotherghostwriter. It's Kyakoda. It's canon. It's tragic. But it's beautiful. Everyone should read it.

28. longest fic you read this year

The longest fic I read this year was actually a Harry Potter fic called Lego House by accio_broom, at nearly 112k words. If anyone reading this likes Romione and has somehow managed not to read this fic yet, you absolutely must.

The longest ATLA fic I've read, though, is (My Heart) Still Beats for You by @smilindesperado, which is at 44k and counting.

He wasn’t a prince. He wasn’t a man.

He was her mission.

The task was simple enough. Get close to the target with little to no suspicion and get out. No fancy gimmicks, just simple and to the point.

Suki eyed the prince from afar, making sure to keep him within range, but remain inconspicuous. Her stride was short and quiet, allowing her to slip through the shadows easily.

She was only a few meters away from him, now. His laugh echoed the practically empty hall, all she had to do was wait for his servant to step away.

The click of a door and the prince’s speedy stride told Suki that he was alone, and in a few moments, she could make her move.

Three, two, one.

Suki spun out of the corners he hid in and grabbed the target. He was bigger than she expected, and stronger.

But she still had the upper hand.

With a twist of his arm and a sweep at his ankles, the prince fell in the dark corridor, and the assassin pulled her signature knife on the man.

But when she stared into his piercing blue eyes and saw the fear disappear, she hesitated.

His eyes. They weren’t heartless or ruthless. They were kind. She never looked into the eyes of the one she killed before, but even if she did, it wouldn’t matter. His eyes stopped the world.

“Go ahead,” he said softly. “Complete your mission.”

He was letting her win, letting her kill him. An easy prey.

Then she saw his eyes again, and his voice made her chest swell and her breathing hitch.

So Suki did the only thing she could do, that she knew how to do at that time.

She ran away.

i get called king boom after the ghost in mario kart (fun story right after i talked with hella and figured out i wasn’t she/her she was like “oh so what should i call you instead of miss boomerangsandadora” and i was like idrc and then that night i was playing mario kart so i came back and was like “actually from now on i will only respond to king boom” and that’s the only time i’ve given myself a nickname and i was joking)

anyway i don’t think anyone has called me king boomy? (i know someone —mayhaps @sukisgirlfriend ?— pointed out that king boom was close to king bumi but i don’t think anyone ever added the i/y)

My favorite Episode: Oh gosh - I don’t think I can pick a single favorite episode? The whole series is so great. <3My least Favorite Episode: I can’t think of a least favorite episode? Honestly this show remains, in my opinion, one of the greatest television shows in existence. Role swap au where Zuko was the Avatar who got frozen for a hundred years, so when he’s rescued from the ice instead of a goofy twelve year old Katara catches this mysterious teenager with long hair and a cool scar and a fucking DRAGON
