I'm a simple woman. When I play Age of Calamity and have to fight Kohga I run circles around him and utterly fail to use the Sheikah Slate prompts because I want to watch him do his cool magic moves and also so he can be on my screen for longer. I'll let 'im hit me with a big spiky ball before I go ahead and smash down that weakness gauge, for sure.
And I swear, I swear...I'm not giggling while I do it.

I just like watching how he moves and what his techniques look like.

Revisiting Age of Calamity and I have some Thoughts™
Astor's voice is. something. half the time I'm mesmerized by how got damn smooth it is like sir PLS. the other half I'm like "WHAT??" because he's too quiet and gets drowned out by the music afsdhg
I am still salty that they didn't make Astor playable. he was literally the Warriors OC for this game like Lana and Cia in the first one. he had a whole moveset programmed and was the main villain of the whole story. he could have been this game's Ganon and instead we got Ganon's Dragonball deviantart OC. we had two DLC packs to remedy this and they gave the slot to a bigger and worse Terrako. who asked for these things. and then how did they go on to make excellent roster choices like Sooga and Purah/Robbie. wtf
Speaking of Sooga I wish they would have at least referenced him in TOTK. I know AoC isn't canon (and also he probably died...???) but it still would have been neat if someone mentioned him (doesn't even have to be by name) or talked about the way he dual-wielded or something
Kohga's my new Get Shit Done Man™. I swear I'm not biased (lie) I just gave him attack speed on his weapon and now he's tearing through everything
I've also been depriving this poor man of his beloved bananas because his meter-emptying mechanic is the answer to literally anything. crowds? Big Glowy Blast. taluses? Big Glowy Blast. Ganon? Big Glowy McFUCKIN Blast
Somewhere I have a clip of me completing a sidequest for Hestu and him screaming "YAY, I LEARNED A THING!!" which is singlehandedly the best line that's ever been spoken in the Wild era games. god bless Cristina Vee

DLC #2 and my headcanons
Time for round 2!
Things that match:
Purah and Robbie roping the Yiga into helping them with their research (they’re a different group for the most part)
Robbie worrying about not mastering his new weapon fast enough. You have his parents’ expectations to thank for that.
Other researchers making sure Robbie eats enough because apparently this man is allergic to self-care
I joked about Robbie’s one weekly rice ball on Discord but that rice ball lasts him a week for sure (it’s also his favorite food anyway)
Having to come up with the funds for new equipment themselves because why would King Jerkass fund anything that doesn’t directly benefit him?
Purah-enforced snack time
THE TOWER. Of course my Robbie would never pass a chance to push his limits. Purah... not so much.
A lot of things in their moveset relating to my headcanons about ancient energy control.
Things I’m unsure about:
Astor’s fellow cultists. I may be able to work them in somehow after Astor got involved with the Harbinger, but the egg had to come first in my backstory for him.
The dinner party quest. I mean, they would absolutely do it, but Robbie may just have too many issues around eating in the presence of other people.
Things that don’t work.
Sooga’s age. No thank you. I'll tweak that for sure.
The Budget Battle. King Asshole would absolutely never give them more funding than necessary, move from his castle for them, and he would most definitely not get involved in fighting them. And they would never ask him for anything and draw potentially negative attention. They may be fighting on the same side for now, but the relationship between the king and the Sheikah is still very messed up.
(I haven't finished the memory quests and some of the EX missions, but I don't expect anything major for now)

Finished AoC’s story (still got an assload of side content to do). Thoughts under break.
I was opposed to the idea of a good ending split timeline when I thought of it prerelease, but I really do like what they actually did with it here.
I was incredibly pumped up and excited whenever there was a stage with the future and past Champions working together. Can I be honest? I was probably more invested in this than in the main narrative of BotW lol. Though they're very different types of stories, BotW is more an uncovering mystery plot with Link's memories and this is a war story, so maybe it isn't fair to compare. Also, I figure that in the main/"real" timeline things mostly followed the same path anyway up to the day of the Calamity itself except for, apparently, things involving Terrako and Astor. I wish we had gotten to know more about Astor, basically all his backstory is in his little character blurb in the gallery. For a while, with his talk of the future aand fate, and Sooga calling him a seer and prophet, I was honestly pretty sure they were going to have him be the royal fortuneteller. Except apparently he only got involved when the future-Malice corrupted past-Terrako and showed him the future. Honestly was pretty disappointed in him as a villain overall, probably my biggest issue with the story. Also, Sooga just completely disappeared which was weird? I guess the idea is he died trying to defend Kohga from Astor like he said he would, but Kohga never commented on what happened to him afterward. Both of them having complete movesets but not being unlocked tells me they'll probably be the first batch of DLC, like Cia, Wizzro, and Volga were in the first HW. Does anyone remember if Cia's pack was free or paid? With Terrako on the other hand, while I haven't finished these sidequests I assume doing so will make him playable. I was surprised to see him have a moveset too.
Purah and Robbie having emote icons and in-combat models is suspicious but I never saw them so much as throw a punch so I'm less sure about them being DLC. As far as gameplay goes I have absolutely zero complaints. Every single system was improved dramatically over the first Hyrule Warriors, and I honestly don't know if I can ever go back now. Holy cow this is fun to play. My favorites are Link, Impa, Sidon, Urbosa, and Rhoam. The map design is super good too, even if some narrow spaces don't really work well in Warriors combat. My favorite map is Akkala Citadel because of how it uses elevation (really glad they still fit in Akkala's last stand and the defense of Fort Hateno too, even with the changed story). Fantastic game even with some hangups. Gonna be playing this for a good long while.

incomplete list of things I'd have wanted from DLC since we didn't get any:
-rest of the playable Houses characters as playable Hopes characters (Cyril, Hanneman, Gilbert/Gustave, Alois, Anna, etc.)
-playable Judith and Nader, and possibly playable Ladislava, Randolph, and Fleche
-a change to AG so that if you complete Ch9 a certain way you get to recruit Miklan instead of watching him die. The writing's so hit or miss that I was never expecting a redemption arc or anything, but I thought the direction they took his character was interesting, and I wanna pull up a lawn chair and cup of tea and watch the fireworks as the Gautier family skeleton closet gets emptied.
-actually just make is so every character w/ a unique model can be playable, even if it's only in the Reflection Battles like Sothis and Arval bc movesets are tied to classes so this game is uniquely set up for having an unusually large cast of playable characters for a Warriors game (yes, even the villains, I think it would be hilarious to be allowed to play the Agarthan characters in the Reflection Battles, and I mean c'mon, Hyrule Warriors let me play as a ton of villains, and even AoC to a lesser extent though I still haven't forgiven them for not letting me play Astor)
-more supports, including supports for Rhea, Sothis, and Arval (Sothis's characterization was butchered something fierce in Hopes BUT she does drop the True Names of a few of the Nabateans so I want her to have "supports" where she gets to observe characters w/ crests and make commentary so I get the True Names for all the Nabateans--in an ideal world the DLC would actually offer good writing for the Nabatean characters)
-also more supports for preexisting characters bc the supports were generally a delight overall
-better weapon organization system
-the rest of the DLC classes from Houses, valkyrie and dark flier can be gender-locked magic classes to balance out the fact that there's 5 male gender-locked classes but only 3 female gender-locked classes, and war monk/cleric can be a master class to warrior for optimal Annette wrecking things w/ Crusher and being able to sling spells (I mean, ideally the gender-locked thing would get removed but if I'm trying to speculate DLC within the confines of the original game)
-fourth golden route bc I'm a sap and I want one (and bc the beginning of SB was weirdly set up well for a potential golden route if Edelgard hadn't gone and fucking declared war on Rhea for no damned reason again)
-also I think Indech and Macuil should be In The Game, and Nemesis should make a return for no reason except it'd be funny, and then they could all be added to the playable pool for extra nonsense
-expanded lore and story for all the familial nonsense. I wanna know exactly was going on w/ Lonato (he should have been playable in SB and gotten supports with Ashe), I want names and designs for Ashe and Hubert's younger siblings, I want a design for Maya (I hope she and Raphael both share design aesthetics, I want them to be the Armstrongs of the FE world), I wanna know more about Ignatz's older brother, I think we need to meet all the moms too, there are so many moms who never get to appear, I bet Felix's mom would become an instant favorite amongst fans. I want to know everything about everyone.
-updated blacksmithing system so I can move skills around on weapons
-way to get more training points
-more silly things, like silly outfits for characters, and also their Houses appearances
-ability to pet the cats and dogs
back on my nonsense (I'm replaying Three Hopes)
#for the three Warrior spinoffs I've played the base gameplay quality has gown way up while the DLC quality went way down#it's wild#and normally I wouldn't care about not getting DLC bc I think it's often a quick cash grab#but at the same time I have NO idea why at the very least the base playable case from Houses wasn't playable for Hopes#granted the writing for all the monastery characters was pretty lackluster#so it's not like Cyril and Hanneman and Alois would have had stellar writing but SILL#also Judith and Nader SHOULD have been playable I am still so confused as to why they weren't#they would have done numbers on the fans#so uh yeah mostly I want more playable characters and more supports and also the rest of the classes#I will never get this but the game is still so fun to play that I can sit and dream

Astor really gets hit once and just
I was born with glass bones and paper skin-
Has anyone ever documented all of Astor's attacks?
Not to my knowledge, but I could go and get pics/video of them later if people would be interested. From the top of my head, I know some of his attacks are:
-Rising up and shooting a pool of malice out from beneath him (this will likely be his special if he becomes playable). He often says “DISAPPEAR” with this, like how you can hear Kohga say “I’m serving up—“ when you fight him as an npc, which is why I think it’d be his special, in addition to it being the showiest move he has
-going Orb Mode and moving
-going Orb Mode and slamming into you
-standing stationary and shooting out the three balls of malice that somewhat chase you
-summoning the hollows
-A special move he does only when all the hollows are out, where he kind of just t-poses while a dome of stars appears around him. He is invincible in this state and you have to defeat all the hollows before he is able to be hit again. (Fun fact you can go into his sphere when he’s like this, he just can’t take damage in that state).
I think there’s one or two others but those are the ones I can think of off the top of my head

i need to add a second camera parented to the hinox instead of the player for the "target locked" mode but i guess this is a workaround for now (there are 3 camera modes that are observed (may be wrong): normal mode, enemy in view (target unlocked), enemy in view (target locked))

You know what, just for funsies, let’s bust out the red string and thumbtacks; we’re going to connect all the dots all at once.
SO
Purah and Robbie are fully voiced in the game. They have their own unique models both in the cutscenes and in gameplay. They also have gameplay dialog with those incidental vocalizations to give the illusion that they’re talking. I don’t believe the devs would have gone to that much trouble for a couple of NPCs just to not make them playable eventually. So yeah, I’m pretty sure we’re getting them as playable characters.
FYI, they did the same thing for Sooga and Astor, and those two dudes already have movesets, sooo...

There was something about character vignettes too! Vignette, as in short story. I dunno if this means some new cutscenes or maybe some new missions, but what I really HOPE it means is that we’ll get a mission where Robbie and Purah have to escape the lab after the Yiga take them hostage!
