Ash gripped the recorder in one hand, and the wall with the other. her distended belly bulged before her, as she sunk to the ground. She took a deep breathe before clicking the record button.

" Nick, you goof. God, i wish you were here with me. i- i don’t know how to get this to-" she screamed, gripping her stomach as another contraction wracked her. " oh my god. it hurts a lot, Baby. there’s something wrong with the labor."

" you need to put that down and focus, Ash." Carlos said, his voice cutting through her thoughts.

" No. No he needs-" she screamed in agony as she felt warm liquid spreading beneath her. she pushed as hard as she could, before continuing. " Nick, I-I love you, but i don’t think- I don’t think i’m going to make it. you have to take care of our kid okay? No more screwing around abo-"

She gasped, as Carlos said, ” Push Ash! You have to push now.”

Ash complied, letting out a half tortured scream, that turned to sobs.

" Only one more push now." Carlos told her. 

She groaned, pushing with all her might. small cries began to fill the room, and Ash looked up to see Carlos holding her baby.

" oh my god Nick." she said, her voice low as he handed her the kid. tears began to fall down her cheeks even as she felt her strength leaving. Carlos put the little struggling and screaming infant in her arms.

" Nick," Ash said, her voice low. she could feel strangely numb. " she’s beautiful. she has your black hair, and my eyes."

Ash felt suddenly very sleepy, and she tried to hand the child back to the Spaniard. with her last remaining strength, Ash closed her eyes, muttering into the recorder, ” i’m sorry, Nick. i’m sorry. I- I love y-“
