Ashley Mary - Artist Research

Ashley Mary is a multi-disciplinary artist from Minnesota, with clients from Apple and Google to Starbucks and Nickelodeon she aims to lead others with the feeling of curiosity and play. “I’m inspired by childhood and childlike expression- spontaneous, textured, playful. I feel most connected to my process when surprises happen”, I relate a lot to what the artist says as I love the childhood, playful aspect of her work which was initially what lured me in. I again similar to the artist like when surprises happen as these tend to be what sparks an idea for me. The idea of just having fun with different materials and seeing what you can make is something I wanted to explore in my project and is something that the artist is doing very successfully.

Ashley Mary ver. 2.0! I didn’t quite photograph Ashley thinking about a variety of shots for triptychs, but I do love how this outfit is pretty matchy-matchy with her piece in the background. 🙃 Ashley mentioned her love of clothes and how they play into her style, so I would have to say go check out her IG world as she has some pretty fun IG story action going on. I’m also thinking I should have been a good photojournalist, and asked things like, “How long have you been painting? Where do you draw your influence from? Breaking away from posting photo story photos to bring you some ~new~ photos! I came across Ashley Mary’s work somewhere down the rabbit hole and was quickly drawn in to how playful and colorful it is. She has a wonderfully positive energy that matches the work she is creating and it was really nice to just hang out and take some photos. Testing this app the past few weeks has brought a new workflow to my illustrations, way more control and ease. Loved. Earlier this month at art attack a little tiny girl visiting my studio told me this piece I was working on reminded her of the bleeding heart flower. And then my heart exploded. I adore watching kiddos interact with my art! This one found a home at the MCAD art sale a few weeks back! #ashleymaryart
