1. What's their name?

well, i have 4 detectives:

Mona Batra (she/her), Dinah Fernandes (she/her - wouldn't mind they/them), Arzoo Shafri (she/her) and Nimah Sen (she/her)

4. What is their personality like?

Mona: Mona is warm and soft, but also incredibly cautious and brainy. interestingly, doesn't mind being the candle that burns itself to provide light to others, so to speak. fierce in a mama bear way & displays quiet resilience.

Dinah: Dinah is spirited. a firecracker. stubborn. but she also is passionate, kind and fiercely loyal. has a deep, deep love for people. a lot like her dad - something they are told more often than they like.

Arzoo: Arzoo is very artistic, very passionate and very driven. is also warm but in the way a ginger cookie is warm - in a slow, not-immediately-obvious way. this is mostly because of how intimidating she seems with her height and the grace she carries herself with.

Nimah: Nimah is a seemingly no-nonsense but always seems to have a sparkle in her eyes. extremely intelligent, very curious and very loving (but only once you peel away her 487 layers of "huh. okay"s and "hmm"s). used to be quick to anger, but she's worked through it.

8. What do they think of Unit Bravo?

Mona: as people, likes & trusts all the members of the team. their association with the Agency is something that she is quietly eyeing because she doesn't fully trust the Agency (though she doesn't show it). with N - well, she shares an increasingly complicated relationship with them, where she is aware that she is close to in love with them but cannot seem to get out of that odd limbo; so it's a very "when will they just kiss for the love of god" kinda situation in the Warehouse. M - her pal, her buddy, her bestie. deeply cares about what they think and what their opinions are. F - very, very protective of them. will fight god for them with nothing but a teaspoon if it may so be. A - she has a lot of respect for, but doesn't mind taking opportunities to annoy them because they're fun to annoy.

Dinah: likes and trusts all members of the team, no questions asked. the trusting part came before, obviously, because her amma trusts them so she trusts them. specifically, A - is in love with them; used to be kinda mad about their attraction towards them but cannot help but love the person that A truly is. F - light of her life, her ride-or-die, her home skillet biscuit and if anyone ever tried them, they are to let her know because they're her everything. N - never forgets the warmth with which N treated them from the get-go. genuinely likes the person that N is; has a lot of respect for them and seeks their thoughts on everything. M - has a kinda odd relationship with them where she likes them but also desperately wants their approval but not in a very obvious way.

Arzoo: grew to like and trust everyone in the team with not much help from their association with Rebecca, though she wasn't entirely too suspicious of them to begin with, either. (i am procrastinating the fuck out of playing Arzoo x M's full route in book 3 so my response will reflect that but-) specifically, M - is in a weird space with them rn. she is definitely aware of the fact that she feels very deeply for them but what does she really mean to them? N - kindred spirits in more ways than one. trusts them (with her heart, mostly) the most. deeply values their presence in her life. F - very sibling vibes. her heart immediately bursts with love for F because how could it not, honestly. A - respects them but really wishes they had more tact because it puts her off sometimes.

Nimah: like Arzoo, Nimah has grown to trust the team. she used to be used to be quietly suspicious of the team and didn't actively voice it because they seemed to help her get her job done, really, so... (i am also procrastinating the fuck out of playing Nimah x F's full route in book 3 so my response will reflect that but-) specifically, F - oh, so in love with them, will blurt it out someday. F is her first ever relationship and she sure got lucky immediately. A - just Gets Them. absolutely gets them and will really fight someone for them. N - feels an odd kind of protectiveness towards them, mainly because of how helpless they are with her no. 1 strength, tech. would totally hold them in her two hands and keep them safe in her pocket if she could. M - another person that she just Gets. seems to be in some sort of a respectable understanding with them, where you wouldn't immediately be able to tell that they're also friendly towards each other.

17. How did they join the Police?

Mona: Mona had a liking for psychology & criminal psychology, particularly, seemed to pique her interest. so she got herself a degree in criminology. there's also this sense of duty to serve & protect her town and her people and joining the force just made sense.

Dinah: Dinah has always had a lot of love for the people in her town & for the town itself, and like Mona, she also has a sense of duty towards Wayhaven. it just felt like a good choice then, to her, to join the force.

Arzoo: Rook was Arzoo's hero. she grew up listening to stories of him from people in the town; everyone seemed to have a story about Rook. naturally, she idolises him. so, it was kind of a no-brainer when it came to choosing a career in the force.

Nimah: Nimah chose to volunteer in the community in the later years of school and developed this sense of community with the people at Wayhaven and took that spirit further by joining the force. it didn't hurt that the job let her truly test her mind and put it to use better than most other jobs.

12. Favourite colour?

Mona: is fond of cool colours. likes lighter shades of blue, particularly a cool baby blue. also likes jade green.

Dinah: loves bright colours, mainly marigold and flamingo pink. is also fond of the iridescent hue.

Arzoo: loves black. also periwinkle.

Nimah: loves a nice cardinal red. or a pastel grey.

13. What do they think of the Agency?

Mona: is beginning to suspect them & their intentions more actively; thinks they're shady. will not show it. chooses to fuck around and find out.

Dinah: trusts that her mother will do the right thing and hence, trusts that they have good intentions, even if they don't always do it the right way.

Arzoo: was only just letting them off the hook before she came to know of how the shady circumstances of her father's death are actually shadier. doesn't trust them but will also fuck around & find out.

Nimah: oddly enough, trusts them. not fully, but does trust them. she knows that such an organisation will come with its own share of shady shit that she will occasionally side-eye, but she doesn't place too much doubt over the intentions.

14. Who do they romance?

Mona: N Sewell (particularly, Nate)

Dinah: A du Mortain (particularly, Adam)

Arzoo: M (particularly, Morgan)

Nimah: F Hauville (particularly, Farah)

15. Would they have reacted to Falk's flirting, if given the opportunity?

Mona: she'd have frozen. she doesn't do well with flirting or being flirted with, basically. so, no, not much of a reaction from her other than "uhhhhhhhhhhhh,,,,,,,,,,,,,,".

Dinah: yeah, she would've taken it as a compliment and playfully flirted back for a bit.

Arzoo: Arzoo is, uh, kind of used to the attention?? she'd be flattered but respectfully step back.

Nimah: similar to Mona. she'd have frozen. HOWEVER, not because she does badly with flirting but because Falk is hot lol. tries not to show that she's flustered; is dying on the inside.

16. Did they want to become detective?

in a perfect world (mine), none of my detectives actually want to join the force, so... 😬

Mona: Mona would've been a lawyer who retires too soon in her career to pursue her passion for cooking and writing about food, & eventually start a blog with a small(-ish) but dedicated set of followers & host lunches for a larger public with chill vibes and music.

Dinah: Dinah would've been a therapist. would do pro-bono work for the people in need - specifically the marginalised communities.

Arzoo: Arzoo would've stayed close to this profession & had a private investigation practice.

Nimah: Nimah would've been a middle school science teacher. her students would think she is kinda eccentric because of the sheer number of wacky science projects she would carry out in class but they would also really enjoy it.

summary: on a rare, lazy afternoon, Arzoo comes to a realisation.

she looks serene like this.

Morgan's head rests on Arzoo's shoulder, as she breathes slow and deep, eyes closed as though in deep slumber. there is a general stillness about her – about them – that she keeps guarded. today, she assumes the stillness of a tranquil lake; save for the soft ripples that she creates, with the way she responds to Arzoo's fond caresses with a few of her own.

her fingers idly move along Arzoo's side with featherlike softness - a kind of touch that is as welcome as it is surprising. it always is. there is as much heat to it as it chills Arzoo's very being, but it's a feeling she's coming to relish.

a lazy, summery afternoon sun peaks in through the blinds, leaving golden strips on Morgan's freckle-speckled face. utterly charmed by the sight, Arzoo cannot help but examine Morgan's face more closely, as she idly strokes her back with equal gentle care.

so i thought of introducing to y'all my Button from Mind Blind, Noor Wiseman (she/her).

Noor – who i hc was named after one of Hope's dearest friends – is a cautiously chaotic person and a passionate cookie lover, who just so happened to fall for our resident Cookie Monster, Mr. Black. armed with her sense of humour, she seeks to constantly reconstruct her cynical worldview, in a "my life is a joke, might as well laugh"-kind of way.

as a bonus: here's grumpy bean Agent Morgan's (nearly) equally aloof tree, Detective Arzoo Shafri (she/her). she likes to think she's casually interested in Morgan and will actively deny entertaining thoughts about their breakfast at Haley's.

15. What’s their phone lockscreen/background picture?

Mona: Mona is a sap. she won't show it much publicly, but she is. so she's kinda sneaky in the way she wants to show it. like in the way her phone background, right now, is the photograph of a Ferris wheel. we know why, obviously.

Dinah: Dinah loves flowers and it's really no secret. there's this tall-ish bush of really fragrant Azalea flowers (one of her favourites) on her way to work that she loves and has taken a lot of photographs of. one such photograph of the blossoms is her phone background right now.

Arzoo: Arzoo loves the night sky and feels strangely connected to it. she's one to go for overnight camps, whenever she finds time to. her phone background is a photo she took of a starry sky on one such camp.

Nimah: Nimah may not collect bugs anymore but she collects pictures of them! and by that, i mean she is always on the lookout (of sorts) for any cool bug sighting. her current lockscreen is a picture of a couple bugs she found with an iridescent blue exoskeleton. only that they're in Farah's hands, who is seen sporting a huge glee in the photograph.

18. How strong is their alcohol tolerance?

[i personally don't drink and that's going to show here, lol]

Mona: she's not one to drink, usually, but i think her alcohol tolerance would be pretty average.

Dinah: Dinah's tolerance leans a little towards the weaker...end? so she's always quite cautious with her drinking.

Arzoo: Arzoo doesn't drink. so...yeah.

Nimah: she has a suspiciously high alcohol tolerance. not that it's oddly high or something i personally just find it suspicious when people have a high alcohol tolerance.

20. What’s their go-to song for the gym?

[ooooh, that's a tough one. may i interest you in a genre instead? 😬]

Mona: Mona likes to work out to Disco Era Bollywood music because why not, amirite? it's got just enough workout music energy that she needs.

Dinah: Dinah's choice of workout music keeps changing; it's largely dependent on her mood and the vibe she's going for that day. so she puts her music library on shuffle and hopes for the best, lol.

Arzoo: Arzoo listens to western classical music with a faster (perhaps a tad more energetic) tempo. that, or A. R. Rahman.

Nimah: Nimah's go-to workout playlist contains 90s Indipop music. what can i say, the songs are a bop. if not that, classic rock. either way, she's internally jamming the hell out of the playlist.

answering for the Wayhaven Summer Ask Game!

14. Does their hairstyle change in the summer? Maybe cut it shorter to keep it light or pull it back to keep it breezy?

Mona has usually had shoulder-length hair that she tied up in a ponytail during summer. of late though, she's been looking to grow out her hair and wears it in a bun for most part.

Dinah has a lot of hair and it makes it very easy for her to feel hot. it also looks even wilder than it really is and is a lot less manageable, during summer. but she loves it. wouldn't have her hair any shorter than below her shoulder blades.

Arzoo has always had hair at such a length that it only barely touches her shoulders. she knows how difficult it could be to manage her curly(-ish) hair if it got any longer – especially during summer – and would rather quit while she's ahead.

Nimah has always had longish hair but it's also easier to manage because her hair is, like, naturally straight. so she wouldn't cut it, but it goes up in a bun during summer – well, as opposed to being let loose or being tied in a ponytail.

15. Favorite summer activity to spend their time?

Mona, like i mentioned here, loves to make ice-cream. it's mostly how she copes with the heat, lol. she also likes to host lunches with close friends sometimes and spends every minute of her free time in the week leading up to said lunch, thoroughly planning it.

Dinah has recently taken to potting plants, looking after them; a lot of them are flowering ones. other than that, she enjoys going to the beach. that, and picking berries, if she finds time. she has at least one day dedicated to berry picking.

Arzoo loves stargazing. it's always been one of her favourite things to do. she's got some inexplicably personal connection with the activity. she also takes time out to go to the roof of her building to paint the summer sky. or just sit there and soak it all up in silence.

apart from trying to wish the season away, Nimah loves to go camping during summers. her favourite place to go camping is by a lake close to Wayhaven. it's a great view to wake up to. it's pleasant. at some point in the evenings, you may spot fireflies around the place, which is just delightful.

20. Are they happy to welcome fall or sad to see summer leave at the end of the season?

Mona is low-key glad that summer is over because it can make her quite irritable and she can only make so much icecream to cool off, lol.

Dinah dislikes autumn/fall because it precedes winter, which is absolutely not fond of. she definitely misses the sun.

Arzoo may not necessarily like the fact that summer's ending but the commencement of autumn/fall means that winter's closer, which is absolutely the favourite time of the year. so she's live with it.

autumn/fall couldn't arrive any faster for Nimah. summer is just not her most favourite time and she will never miss it.

7. Relaxing on the beach or playing in the water?

Mona is more of a walk-along-the-shoreline kind of person. just walking barefoot in the sand, the water joining in with its own rhythm, yeah. if she's walking in comfortable company, she may suddenly (and purposely) take longer strides, so the water splashes around and she gets a good (though quiet) laugh out of that.

oh, Dinah is in the water, alright. splashing friends, posing for pictures, kind of swimming – just really letting go. this is one of her favourite things about summer, so obviously, she's going to make the most of it.

Arzoo is simply going to relax on the beach. lots of sunscreen, a pair of dark glasses, the shade of a big umbrella, a nice, light read – you get the drift. maybe she'll also people-watch from over the book she's "reading". she likes doing that much more than she cares to admit.

Nimah: look, Nimah hates summer; cannot tolerate the heat at all. but she can let the hate slide for a bit for a trip to the beach. she likes to explore the beach and find cool-looking shells to take pictures of (and with, if no one's watching). she's always been a bigass dork underneath all the propriety and collectedness, as we know.

7. Who takes the lead in social situations?

well, they're screwed. if Morgan could roll her eyes further back, she really would. Morgan doesn't do socialising, and she doesn't need another one of Nate's exasperated "Morgan!"s to know that. she could intimidate someone into getting her way, sure, but being charming? friendly? ah, fuck that.

Arzoo is better at this, better than Morgan at least. she may not be the most social person, but Arzoo is quite...methodical when it comes to navigating social situations. she's worked hard on her social skills, especially because she thinks her work demands that she hold her own – it is people that she's working with (and for), after all. a practised smile here, a well-rehearsed laugh there, a friendly pat on the back, a ready set of responses that would work in most situations – oh, she's good.

so while people and social skills aren't Arzoo's strongest suit, she's definitely not going to let that hold her back.

maybe they're not as screwed after all.

8. Who gets jealous easier?

neither.

because Morgan does not get jealous. yeah, maybe the person who is getting friendly with Arzoo is objectively good-looking but Morgan's fine because she does not get jealous. at all. she just needs a stiff drink because it's one of those days, that's all. maybe she'll just go and introduce herself. because she can be friendly. okay, yeah, no, she's a little jealous. an appropriate amount. maybe.

9. Who whispers inappropriate things in the other’s ear?

it's fun to distract Arzoo from her chores and other tasks on hand like this. it's almost comical to see Arzoo try to fight off the flush in, what she knows is, a losing battle. it's amusing to see how she tries to disguise her laugh as a cough but have it come out as a bark regardless. it's moments like these, where Morgan fails to contain the fluttering in her stomach, the way her heart threatens to soar. it's...endearing. it's one thing she wants to keep for herself, something to treasure.

until one day, Arzoo gives it right back with a winning smirk, making Morgan stumble over her words.

hello there ✨ for the oc fact swap: Serena used to go to a lot of rock/alternative concerts when she was younger. She loved the noise and chaos and even crowd surfed a few times

oooooooh I LOVE THAT. any specific bands that she loved the most?

Arzoo is the resident 80s music junkie. there is no particular genre that she goes for; it depends completely on her mood at any given time. she has a special spot for Simple Minds' Don't You (Forget About Me), though, because it tugs on a very vague memory of her father. she feels she used to hear him sing this song a lot but she's not entirely sure (for obvious reasons). she still holds that vague image close to her heart.
