I have no idea how to label this, LOL. I've been fixing a lot of silly bugs thanks to some awesome people, and drafting on Ch2 is going v. well! 40% done, and it's only the first week of August... .... Kind of unnerves me 😅

Because Ch2 is shaping up to be much longer than Ch1, I'm going to code each scene as I finish rather than doing it all at once and melting my brain. It'll be a separate beta version for those who want to read the story and don't mind the wonky bugs - if you'd rather read everything at once and have a much neater experience, wait for 2.0 at the end of this month :>

Anyway, you can get the beta version where you find the other version. Version 1.1.4 is all of Chapter 1, with bugfixes and only a small Ch2 preview. It'll stay that way until Ch2's full release 👀

This Beta covers:

Multiple Scenes in Chapter 2. So far it's up to four: The phone call, a chat with Malwina, your first job with Mordecai and Viktor, and a long conversation with Lottie.

There's also a few additions to the Character Creator - I am not taking suggestions for new content here. It's very low priority compared to drafting the actual story.

Being able to skip directly to Chapter 2! You'll still get to choose your Tarot reading. Please note if you chose a Tarot that normally wouldn't be available to you - i.e., choosing Star if you don't have a kid - text won't make sense. Chapter Selection is going to look nicer in 2.0 (ideally, lol).

A proper, multiple save/load system! (It can be weird sometimes!)

also think the eldritch entities (<-- need to come up with a better term for these bugs i feel corny only ever calling them that man) and the sentient animals of alamanni had a very close relationship pre-humanitys creation. there wasnt that insistent invasive Curiosity to prompt the same sort of response as the predecessors (hide in holes in the ground and violently reject all attempts at outreach) bc the animals were generally very openbook and willing to connect w the beasties in turn. like the idea of a symbiotic relationship that is commensalistic on the purely Physical level in the animals favor (animals entreating the eldritch for help and receiving it- though typically in unorthodox+Strange ways like mutation of their body and shit) but emotionally slanted towards the eldritch (a wholly open and welcoming ppl- WITH the entire underground weirdos intrigue attached !- a great reprieve in their endless flight from the rot of the existence dragon)

Man you can't tell me his smile just not sends you to cloudnine. That one panel of him smiling at Nagi got me cursing that bitch for making Reo cry. He's so precious I'm crying. Nagi better have tripped 50 times after walking away from him. His smile is so genuine. Reo is so easy to read off field. His emotions are always easily seen based on his expressions and how he acts. Just by looking at his face and eyes, you could really tell how he feels. The way his face lights up and his eyes sparkle when he smiles got butterflies on my tummy. Fuck you Nagi.

MEGURU "we're happy, free, confused, and lonely in the best way" - 22

Bachira is always a mix of emotions. I genuinely believes he can feel and handle a lot of emotions at the same time and still only show one, and he chooses what to show. He's always smiling or calm despite the chaos on field and everything. He's so chill. He'd be the fun person to be around everytime. He's a flexible person. He could be fun when it's the mood, and bring out his lonely feeling when you talk deep. But he's so optimistic he lits up the mood again. He's the type to just go with the flow of anything and worry about something when it's there. The fact that he finds a way to make himself kind of okay is amazing cuz I would honestly lash out on everyone in the field.

RIN "back then we didn't know, we were built to fall apart" - the very first time

Ah, he's definitely the angsty childhood friends to strangers trope. The moment Sae broke him he was bound to break everything around him. Even if he hurts people unintentionally, the damage is still done, no? He inherited his brother's sharp tongue and bad attitude so if you aren't a masochist or a simp, better stay away cuz this man could make you cry with a sentence. It doesn't really help that he literally grew up all over Sae. It's not like Rin is the type to say "go away cuz you're distracting me from my revenge" or something, but his change drives people away from hi.

Literally sucks at communicating. He'd be the person who would slack off at communicating and do whatever he wants when he thinks you know him enough. He's probably think you know he'd buy a new house when he complains about the broken cieling. Don't even get me started on this one. He's so obvious. Tbh, in real life, you'd be pretty stupid if you didn't notice sooner. Getting with him on a committed relationship, a fubu, or a fwb would be a risky 50/50 if you're weak for guys like him, better run, but if you're a flagpole then why not? You could fall for him for all he cares, he just wants to have fun.

SAE "why'd i have to break what i love so much?" - afterglow

Now he'd defnitely be the one to lash out. Aside from the Rin drama, if Sae had a childhood sweetheart or something like that, they would either end up like Rin or slowly experience and see the change in Sae. From his usual teasing manner to the dry, lesser and lesser text and messages. He'd be the type to lash out and tell you to go away when you pry too much for his taste. Sharp tongued, bad attitude, sharper actions, so realistic to the point that he does so much damage around him and what's worse is that he doesn't care. He knowd what he's doing and he just doesn't care enough. It's not he doesn't love or like Rin or his 'if' childhood sweetheart, it's just the way he is after his change. He's like a fire burning everything on his path, and he just keeps going.

YUKIMIYA "darling, i fancy you" - london boy

Like, have you seen this man? He's a 3 in 1. Angst, Fluff and Sm-- hehehehe. He's so pretty, soft boy at first look and then sexy at the second, then angsty health drama in the third. My yukki is so strong for handling his sickness so well :') come here and lemme give you a hug.

Ness, I completely understand, it's completely justified. This man is gorgeous and he fucking knows it. He's probably the center of attention when he walks in and he loves every bit of it. YOICHI "i swear i don't love the drama, it loves me" - end game

Pretty self-explanatory. I feel so bad for him. My boy just wants to play soccer and suddenly he's a double love story antagonist and a brother stealer :') ever since Rin and Nagi came into the picture he lost Bachira. Like, just go away and give him back Bachira. Then there goes Kaiser and Ness drama, an upgraded version of reonagi. Reonagi drama level 3. Cuz level one is them, them level two is Kunigiri. GIVE HIM THE BALL AND LEAVE HIM ALONE. Need to build a government himsagi protection squad cuz Ness is probably gonna break his legs sooner or later.

I love the fact that in your story Jason tends to mythologize himself and everyone around him. The clock isnt just a clock it has a dramatic heartbreaking tragedy attached to it. Bruce and Batman arent just Bruce or Batman but also Odysseus. He himself isnt just a boy but pariyah who found someone like him, a soldier trying to stand his ground. I also love that he looked at Tim "cringefail loser conspiracy theorist who commits crimes just because he wants" Drake and decided he's the coolest guy ever, similarly he heard about Stephanie "literally Just Some Guy with social skills and adhd" Brown and decided she's perfect and he could never measure upto her

Jason is so incredibly baby I love him. Terminally twelve. Afflicted with tween disorder. It's terminal. Baby boy.

Jason was easy to write, because he's just meant to be the opposite of Steph in every way. But they are identically Mary Sues. He's such a heroic, perfect little baby. He has a drive for justice and heroism like Steph does not have at all. His voice is almost as sophisticated as an adults. I wrote him as over the top perfect and virtuous. And he's still here like PERFECT FREAKING STEPHANIE BROWN. HOW I HATE HER.

OK this story exists because my friend and I were joking about how fucking awful it has to be to follow up on Steph's act. The sheer level of favoritism has to be fucking insane. Bruce thinks Steph is the most perfect child ever, who on Earth is going to match up. Jason has no idea that he is the favorite baby. It's so funny to me to write Steph "Canonical Fuck-Up" "Internal Narration at 8th Grade Reading Lvl" Brown perceived as some stupid perfect genius princess who everyone is obsessed with. It's a meta-commentary.

I think he's a very, very thoughtful person, but he's one with a temper. He's dreamy and spends a lot of time in his own head, but he most frequently uses his daydreams and habits of fictionalizing his own life like oven mitts, as a way of protecting himself and processing his own world into something he can handle. Being homeless is stressful and boring so he just read a lot. I think Bruce did that too as a kid, and their mutually overactive imaginations and more quiet and reserved natures let them bond. But like Steph, he understands the big picture and the importance of Batman and Robin in the cultural landscape of Gotham - Jason knows the meaning of Odysseus. I think he understands his spot as the inheritor of Steph and Bruce's legacy before Steph does. They began it, but Jason has to figure out how to tell its story and make it a myth. He's well-suited for the task: it was never Steph he saw in that Robin costume.

Re: Tim: if I was a 12yo boy and my big brother was a domestic terrorist who infiltrated foreign governments and went to MIT I would think he was super cool. Of course Tim's a helpless dork but Jason doesn't see that. It was fun to write Tim "Pathetic-ass Nerd" Drake viewed as incredibly cool, for the same reasons it was fun to write Stephanie "Has Not Read A Book In Four Years" Brown seen as a genius. Jason thinks of himself as someone with a strong imagination who also has a strong grounding in reality, but I think his overactive imagination makes him lose touch with the people around him!

okay!!!! i'll do a little guide on what i have / use haha

i've included links for yesstyle/oliveyoung global, but i got all of mine either in store, via olive young korea, or directly from the brand websites.

1 - flynn lightcatcher liquid glitter

These are my go-to liquid glitters, I use them all the time. You might recognise them because shade 01 is the glitter that was used during Jungkooks photofolio shoot!! I tend to use shade 02 mostly - it's a pink base with cooler toned glitter. I'm quite literally wearing it today lol

2 - dasique starlit glitter powder

I have the smoothie berry collection, but the one i use most frequently is from the newer collection (the one with the peachy tone). it's part of my daily makeup look atm!!

3 - 3CE mini palette

the first glitter i acquired in SK that led to.... all of this lmao. I rarely use it these days, just because pressed glitters arent my favourite (liquid glitters are my go-to). still gorgeous! and a nice variety of shades/consistencies

4 - about_tone glitter (02 my fairy)

honestly i should have gotten the other colour story because i already have so many light / pink toned glitters but i am a creature of habit! I really like this one - there's 3 super fine shimmers and 3 chunkier glitters. It's the pressed palette i use the most!!

5 - unleashia glitterpedia palette

these have a really nice feel to them - super creamy and easy to use. some of them feel almost like balm, so if you hate the feeling of glitter but want a little staying power, i'd recommend these!

6 - etude house tear liner

a nice lil shimmer - i dont use it as a liner, it's quite sheer so sometimes I'll use it as a base on my lid!! it's not something i reach for often, but it's cheap and pretty!!

7 - holika holika spang-glitter

when i first came to korea i was sooo loyal to these!! they also do shimmers (called metal glitter). there's a shade called mirrorball parts, and i'd recommend it to all of our bd girlies he he he

8 - mude dreamy glitter

i got this cause it was on sale for like 3,000 won and holy shit i LOVE it. used it religiously for weeks!!

9 - lilybyred glitter zone - shower

i believe this is discontinued now which is a huge shame, but you can still find it online in some stockists!! it's just never on the lilybyred stands in store. the liquid glitters are called 'shower', and the pressed glitter is called 'fog'. I've used both, but shower is definitely my fave! my tube is pretty much empty, i loved it.

10, 11 - not available online

so 10 is the twinkle pop x daiso collection, 11 is the chocholab x daiso collection. they're super cheap, and super good - if you're ever in SK, you'll no doubt fall in love with daiso, so look out for their makeup section!!!

12 - luna lighting up pot

i love this!!!! the glitter is chunky, varies in tone, is just ugh dreamy. I use this for nights out!! shade 05 gleam on is my go-to!!

Not a major episode update but I HIGHLY recommend updating your build!

This contains bug fixes, updated art for side characters and npcs,  Molly, Abigail, and the generic Girl and Boy sprites all have upgraded sprites. Val's phone texts have been upgraded to nighten's NVL phone. The fake video chats are redone to use layered sprites as well. The "Peeking is very good actually" choice in e11 contains the full conversations for the texts between Liam and Alex and Liam and Valerie. 

But the biggest thing I wanted to share is the new preferences I've added in! Dark mode should work on computer and Android. theres 3 different font size options for computer and 2 for android. as well as three font options now, quicksand, open dyslexic, and hyperlegible. Self voicing is the toggle for the built in Renpy engine self voicing, which is not available on mobile devices.  Sound Captions should be available for all music, so you can see the names of the songs from the OST if you like :) Sound captions for the sound effects arent all in yet however.

thank you so much mac! honestly a huge range of tips i could cover haha but i’ll see if i can give you some of my favourite tips that were the catalyst for my own improvement!

one of the biggest steps i made with painting realistically is after discovering a technique used to blend colours using gaussian blur. i dont use it as often but its still extremely useful for achieving a fast dreamy blended colour. but first i’ll explain how i use it. i’ll have my layer with my painting of say, my subjects face, duplicate the layer, set the upper layer to a lower percentage of opacity (around 50% at first but i often find that turns out too low of a %) and then i’ll go to the lower layer and add the filter gaussian blur and play around with the area to blur (often end up settling around the 20.00s) and after ive readjusted the upper layers opacity to maintain the structure of the painting the result ends up extremely dynamic with a nice blended look to it.

this was helpful for me when i started using a textured brush for quickly laying down colours without having to overly fuss about blending. because before using the textured brush i use now i used to use a soft brush to carefully blend while laying down colours and it was an Extremely slow and tedious way to paint. (oh and btw using my textured brush which is called ‘analog anabelle’ its a clip studio paint brush, adds a nice texture to just about everything, looks great for skin and for clothing, but has mixed effects for hair admittedly. i use a different textured brush i downloaded from the site called SU-Cream Pencil for fine details of hair).

it’s hard to explain in a way that doesnt reduce gaussian blur to a shortcut and a trick because the result of using the gaussian blur for the first time flicked a switch in my understanding of painting as well as speeding up my process an extreme amount. and now i dont rely on it to blend my colours anymore because its trained my eye and i can achieve a nicer blend by my own hand. i did use it recently on my house art as a finishing effect to his jacket though! a before and after image:

and it also helps for making lighting more dreamy, it came in handy for edges of wilsons face, making the rim lighting seem to bleed into the pinks of his face:

part of why this trained my eye was it helped me embrace trusting the process as well as using colours i deemed “ugly”, really it was about the idea of colours being contextual which ive known about for years but had been rejecting and winding up with paintings flooded with too many reds and pinks.

the thing about thinking of colours contextually too is that it gave me a better understanding of achieving realistic effects with painting those trickier areas like eyes, which are a lot of subtle shifts in colour but sans eye makeup and/or deep wrinkles there arent really any hard lines. eyes and clothes wrinkles are all about the illusion of hard lines. (i only started really improving my art when i phased out line art which started with phasing out lines in clothes because the hard lines of the line art were competing with my subtly painted illusory hard lines) heres an example of when i was first phasing out of lines vs where i think my progress in understanding has taken effect in subtly painting illusory hard lines in clothing is most clear:

see how despite the fact i was still using line art in the left image the inside of the clothing has hardly any inner lines defining folds. but in the right image i have no line art at all and yet the folds look more structured and solid.

one more thing that was an important discovery to me is something i call overpainting. this may or may not help everyone but i keep different parts of my painting on separate layers, like a shirt layer, body layer, hair layer etc etc. and i used to have difficulties with the edges where the layers separated bc id be left with a lot of ugly sharp transitions between the body and the shirt.

but what helped me was creating a folder above all my layers and painting on an unlocked transparent pixel layer over the top and softening the transition between those layers. it also helps with making my subjects edges blend into the background heres what my edgar art looks like with and without the overpainting:

you can see the edge of his left sleeve is almost completely blurred into the colour of the stone bench, and you can see how i use the overpainting to blend hair into the background

these are all of my most recent discoveries that have helped me sorry if theyre of no use but i apply all of these in all my art to gain a more realistic effect! and if you have any further questions or need for clarification feel free to ask!

i dont currently plan to get more isopods but dreamy species (that are actually within reach. So none of those adorable spiky ones like shiny gators, ancient gators, thai spikies... Just absurdly expensive and hard to get) are uhhhh:

armadillidium cf espanyoli “marbelized”

(pic source) i just loooove the patterning its so pretty ive seen some really stunning ones in pictures too. theyre really tiny apparently. i already think my cappuccinos are tiny and theyre like twice the size of the marbles from what i can tell. itd be cool to have more Sizes u kno. these are the most tempting to me like if i was looking for another species to keep or if i had more room. itd definitely be these. great combo of beautiful pod and not so expensive or notoriously hard to work with or anything.

porcellio expansus “orange”

(pic source) theyre BIG fuckers!!!! not as big as hoffmanseggi but preddy big and very flat and i like their big exopods/uropods (?) (the funky tail things the guys have longer ones of) allso. isolated from the general porcellio expansus from spain which is sometimes calld the beetlejuice isopod and i have brain rot. They do have such cute little striped black and white antennae though, see? 

A strain like autumnal equinox is also tempting but..... idk 

cubaris sp “lemon blue”

(pic source) arent they stunning. ok so i want one of the yellowy ones i think theyre cute but it could be lemon blues it could be jupiters it could be some rendition of the bees. rubber bees, emperor bees, bumble bees.

armadillidium vulgare “gem mix”

(pic source) this is actually a really commonly available mix and was almost my first set before i got that absurd deal on my cappuccinos. I just love how rich and deep the colors are and they all complement each other so well. there are other mixes of other species like ‘lotto ticket’ and ‘party mix’ but the gem mix is so pretty to me

honorable mentions

armadillidium nasatum “peach” - absurdly cute to me. such a pretty color and such nice markings. not SUPER up my alley in terms of what id want to keep but just so nice to look at. if i had space and saw a good deal. itd be tempting.

cubaris sp. “pak chong” - they are also. so cute. they were actually one of the other ones i was considering as my first isopods, the reptile store in my area has some (as well as that gem mix) but i had been worried they would be too hard to care for (and then i went for the theoretically Harder to care for cappuccinos anyway so i had to level up my isopod keeping really fast and early for those little thangs) anyway i like their little red face and butt.

venezillo parvus “kumquat” - maybe i just like the food names especially. bc i have cappuccinos and chocolate zebras at home. but also a lot of morphs have food names. They are just so so cute conglobated and they are teeny tinys. i like their coloration and markings. this section is kind of repetitive now that i think about it

cubaris sp “white shark” - literally would be on the list but theyre just so tinys. idk why but them being tiny seems like a big L in this case but in other cases a species is tinys and im like. epic....
