The MesoProwl kids refuse to be born except when it can inconvenience everyone the most.

Roddie has twice, Twice, had to play midwife. Which is a weird two penny situation.

Once, when helping Meso unpack Ostsros/Springer from his test tube and Arcee defended them while the ship was invaded.

Then, while helping Prowl pull the "piping hot gray gooey blobmination" (Roddie's descriptor) of Blackarachnia off his spark chamber while they were kidnapped by an alien race who cold into a the black and gold spiderling of Meso's dreams and their unsuspecting shipmates nightmares.

It was the Vok who kidnapped them.

Roddie refuses to endure this a third time, but Sunstorm, polite sane nice Sunstorm, has everything happen as scheduled in the medbay with doctors, Mesothulas, and the recently recruited Anode presiding. Admittedly, everyone spent that day paranoid and suspicious waiting for the other shoe to drop with some disaster.

Glitch is having to make a system and rules addressing this and is frantically studying organic laws about "work daycares" and "parental time off" with increasing despair.

He has no idea what the growth rates should be, so how can he get a number? Should he include maternity leave? What is baby proofing and how does it apply when Blackarachnia has natural defenses that can take down Overlord (she bites him once) and Ostsros has a weapons system?

Only he would be stuck with this kind of nonsense.

When he meets MTMTE Roddie he gets to commiserate about the love boat aspect but not even they have experienced pregnancy.

Yet.

(Brainstorm and Perceptor are a little too interested in Mesothulas new science. And the Scavengers met Connie so are a little less fazed.)

So I wanna talk about Earthspark (SPOILERS!!!!)

After finally watching/binge watching the new series, I got a few things to to talk about. I'll go over them quickly. Spoilers btw if you don't want to know.

Actual likeable/relatable human characters that I actually like and not cringe or boring (*cough* Jack *cough*).

diversity in the human characters and diversity in general.

Well developed human characters, protagonist and antagonist.

Well developed villain/antagonist with a genuine reason why to hate cybertronians.

Actual representations of a veteran (especially with her prosthetic).

Wasn't a huge thing either, it was in the background, but was brought up when Mandroid told his backstory to Dot.

Healthly parental and partner relationship between the kids and parents, as well as dot and Alex.

Alex absolutely being a nerd about the autobots and decepticons, also big fan of bumblebee.

The Terrans concept is a very interesting, especially since their creation involves with one of the 13 primes, specifically Quintus Prime.

Also the fact that they live off of water instead of energon is very interesting too.

twitch and thrash are adorable.

Nightshade, my nonbinary baby. Your doing great.

Also a lot of representation.

Fight scenes in the show are top notch, so freaking fluid that i'm crying YES!

All and all this is a great show, there is a lot of care put into this and i'm so glad that this is only the first half of the season. I can't wait to see what else they will bring to the show. Although I have a couple of questions that are bugging me.

How and what cause the war to end?

What happened to Cybertron?

What happened to shockwave and some other note worthy con's

What happened to most of the autobots?

What is the plan/purpose of the Terrans?

What was Quintus Prime plan for the terrans?

What was the turning point for megatron to make him change?

This is only the few of them but you get the point. This so has gotten me by the grips and I'm so excited to see more of it.

Arcee is Barber's best writen character and I love her and I love the work he put into recontextualizing her entire character.

Of course, is not my place to say how well he handled the trans narrative, but I think what's most important is that he didn't just retconned the context of the surgery and called it a day, but made Arcee a full character beyond that.

As Furman wrote her, that surgery was the focus of her entire character. Arcee was a violent madwoman due to the trauma of being made a woman and that was pretty much all that was to her, which is... distasteful.

Barber made it so her penchant for violence post-Jhiaxus is just her doubling down on behaviors she had already learned. She's old, she has seen most of Cybertronian history and hates her race and herself. She has genuine trouble understanding and connecting with people (autistic Arcee ftw!), so much that she came to genuinely believe friendship was simply something not made for her. Despite this, she still tries to be better because well, what else is there? She pulls herself up almost on her own and her whole arc is intrinsically tied to the narrative and themes of the series. Hell, you could argue Arcee's story is Cybertron's story in microcosms.

Love that the War on Cybertron expansion to the trans Transformers Deckbuilding Game (in the base game you can play sword-wielding Arcee and acquire the Matrix of Leadership and her idw1 swords and jetpack etc, Arcana Magnus ftw all the art of her in the game except her player character stuff is EXRID trans Arcee) with more gals e.g. Slipstream, Elita One, and Windblade is slated to come out during one of the queer months (all months are queer but you know) either June (when Pride is celebrated in some parts of the world) or July (which is the Wrath month that follows) which fits really well lmao. Sure it may not have been ‘intentionally planned’ to release during a recognized month but also like Transformers is just permanently trans & expansive and same-aesthetic love now has been for years so... shrugs a box of queer-equivalent robots at war over autonomy and hierarchy in June/July is well, a nice thing to have happening while we live in society as it is-

what are your thoughts on the whole cold constructed and true self stuff?

my two major things are

it really really doesnt work as a gender metaphor and mscotts execution of it was laughably bad

making it a gender metaphor is also like, one of the MAJOR things that makes mtmte's lore completely incompatible with most of exrid/taao. i'm not saying f/cc was done better in mtmte, it wasnt, but the Fantasy Racism and Fantasy Transgenderism dont really mesh

that said idk if there WAS a way to do the true self narrative without being kind of insensitive considering the way forging & f/cc dynamics had been established before taao, and i think the attempt is there. i really don't think mscott was being malicious in the way she ended up writing starscreams gender issues, but like, idk. especially considering the only other major trans character at the time ALSO had a "being trans/transitioning makes you evil" narrative, it doesnt sit well. (i do think stars is done better than arcees furman-era portrayal tho, like, way better. its much more of an internal frustrations manifesting as feelings of isolation/doubt/self loathing than it is like, whatever the hell phase1 arcee was.)

generally, i think it was a clumsy but well-intentioned allegory written by a cis woman. ive talked more about my specific issues with it as a trans narrative and why i prefer others (lug and anode ftw) in the past iirc. i also dont like the true form frame lol it was a lil ugly.
