Rook looked around as they entered the kitchen, swiping an apple off of the table. They caught Bellara's eye as the slight woman gave them a tiny but cheerful wave, her hand swiveling on her wrist just next to her face.

"He's in the pantry," said Bellara in a near whisper. "Apparently he's comfortable there? I didn't—you know. Want to question what worked for him."

"Uh huh," said Rook. "That's very respectful of you, Bellara."

"Thanks! I think. Wait, what are you doing?"

Rook's soundless stride carried them to the pantry. In one motion, they opened the door and gently tossed the apple in an upward arc into the pantry itself.

The apple veered sideways. It hit the side wall with a wet splat, pierced perfectly through the core by a knife.

"We keep food in the pantry, Lucanis!" Rook called out.

The master assassin appeared in the doorway, perfectly composed and put together. Lucanis looked down at his shoulder and brushed away an imaginary bit of debris. "Are the supplies you keep in here actually considered to be food?" he asked. "That's quite a claim."

I’m going to cook Tobias a cake for his birthday despite having not cooked a cake for like thirteen years and it’s going to be a Black Forest cake and I might burn down the kitchen.

A fun fact I learned in the the last two years is that tomato greens are edible in moderation! There are a few other nightshade species that also have edible leaves (in moderation and/or with proper processing) as well, which is wild because before this I thought that nightshades were all toxic outside of the fruits.

That said, I’m still v scared every time I nibble at a tomato leaf. :P

That said: Don’t try and eat nightshade greens unless you can positively identify them and 2) you know for sure the process for making them edible so you don’t get poisoned.
