Cuts it up into odd shapes because it’s more fun that way (Someone take the knife away from them pls)
— Sugawara, Kuroo, Lev, Hanamaki, Suna, Futakuchi, Terushima
Is super confused bc why are there so many types of mooncakes and fillings?? Aren’t mooncakes just mooncakes?? Just tell them it’s good and feed them and theyll nomz away
— Kageyama, Yamaguchi, Kyotani, Kindaichi, Asahi, Koganegawa, Fukunaga, Inuoka
Doesn’t eat mooncakes with salted egg yolks in them (Will dig them out and yeet them away without blinking)

Hakuoki Drama CD Flower and Oni Translation
First post of the month! so as always, I’ll once again start by asking you to please support me if you can either on ko-fi, through paypal or patreon for access to my blog post translations or just to support me (current special access is my translation of the seventh Saito Ginsei no Shou chater)... also let me know if you have any hakuoki drama cds that you’d be willing to share that are on my looking for list since i either do not have audio for those cds or do not have audio that i can share...
btw, was there an image of the sky in SSL that matches the one here? sorta want it for something but can’t exactly remember if it was in the game cuz i haven’t picked up my vita in a long while since i screwed mine up....
also, to whom it may it concern: 中秋快乐! slightly delayed tho lol.
Anyway, this is my translation of the Hakuoki MesseSanoh store exclusive drama cd - Flower and Oni “花と鬼.”
one of the dramas i found back in june... at the time, i coincidentally obtained CH translations of all the other Tokuten cds that were released with the ps2 Hakuoki Shinsengumi Kitan game (based on info from tokio-fujita’s drama cd livejournal page). no idea when i’ll get to those.... since all the ones that haven’t been translated yet are +10min long (i did somehow manage to obtain the audio for all of them months before i got the CH tls for em).
Also, there was one sentence missing in the tl for this. had the translation of it commissioned from @jokertrap-ran. left that text in bold.
enjoy~ final edits will be done when i do a video for it (i’m 90% sure the sighs/laughter and other misc sounds weren’t translated properly in the text i found but oh well).
Hakuoki MesseSanoh Store Exclusive Drama CD Flower and Oni
Translation by KumoriYami
Kondou: Hah......to be able to relax on the porch/corridor/veranda while enjoying the flowers, it really is nice.
Souji: Areh? Kondou-san? What are you doing over here?
Kondou: Oh, Souji, do you want a cup of tea? Come, sit here.
Souji: Are you appreciating the flowers right now?
Kondou: Although there are assignments, and despite how every day is recently bloody [reword later], it's really nice to be able to appreciate the flowers like this once in a while
Souji: It's really nice, the sun is warming and shining brightly, and the blooming sakura are beautiful.
Kondou: Yes
Souji: Nn, it's really nice [says comfortable/feeling well].
Kondou: haha, Souji, have another cup of tea.
(footsteps)
Souji: I won't be polite then.
Kondou: Nn, those footsteps are quite noisy.
Souji: Those footsteps, they're Hijikata-san's.
Hijikata: Really, everyone is like this......
Souji: Look, I guessed correctly.
Kondou: haha, that's really amazing.
Hijikata: What, it if isn't Kondou-san and Souji.
Kondou: You don't look that happy, Toshi, come have a cup of tea.
Hijikata: You two are really relaxed, to be drinking tea while enjoying the flowers.
Souji: I think this is better than drinking, or it because we're not having sake that you're angry?
Hijikata: Kondou-san, this concerns the warriors who recently joined our ranks.
Kondou: Ah, it seems that a lot of people have gathered, so the Shinsengumi will get better and better in the future.
Hijikata: If only if that were the case.
Kondou: Nn, what's the problem?
Hijikata: I was training the new members just now. Although it's good there are many new recruits [says volunteers. if audio doesn't have xin in it, i'll change it to interested volunteers], a lot of them are lazy and completely useless, few of them can be used/can be put to use.
Souji: Isn't it your job to train them? Vice-commander Hijikata. [check for -san]
Hijikata: Souji don't just relax and drink tea, you should be training them with me.
Souji: No/Don't wanna.
Hijikata: What?! For what reason?
Souji: Because I'm resting right now.
Hijikata: It doesn't matter if you are or aren't resting. If the executives don't take the lead, what is to be done? tell me [answer me]!
Souji: Really. Here we go again. It's because you take these arbitrary and out of place actions, that everyone gets annoyed [more literally: bored].
Hijkata: Oh, who's fed up with me [then]? I'll ask you to give me their names.
Souji: You didn't notice? Hijikata-san, you're unexpectedly slow.
Hijikata: Hey, I say [literal translation. i'm assuming this is more along the lines of 'say that again!']
Kondou: Come on, come on [im guessing the audio is 'ma, ma'], you two should let it be. Come, calm down and and look at the sakura......
Hijikata: don't say anything else Kondou-san, this is Souji's and my problem.
Souji: Sorry, Kondou-san, I don't want to bother you, you can look [at them] by yourself.
Kondou: Ah, is that so?
Souji: I've wonder, but is Hijikata-san's way of doing things really okay?
Hijikata: What? Souji. Do you have a problem/complaints with me? [Or] are you looking down on me/[Or it] just that you hate me?
Kondou: What am I, your nanny!?
[will probably change that to ‘what are you, his nanny?’ for language flow]
Souji: No/That's not it? Anyway, I'm still the First Division Captain of the Shinsengumi.
Hijikata: If you're a captain, you should act like one, and take care of the team members.
Souji: I have taken care of it [that].
Kondou: To be fighting in front of beautiful flowers...... really what a headache. As a warrior/samurai, how can you not enjoy the cherry blossoms?!
Hijikata: What is there to look at/see, it's because of this that I work so hard.
Souji: You're not happy/Are you upset? I thought Hijikata-san was quite willing/happy to do this.
Hijikata: What?!
Kondou: Oh, right, I've thought of something good, both of you listen. As the chief of the Shinsengumi, I have a proposal.
Hijikata: What?
Souji: What?
Kondou: In order to promote friendlier relations within the team members, how about holding a hanami/sakura viewing party?
Hijikata: Kondou-san, do you know what time it is right now?
Souji: I approve/support that. I think that that the team members will improve after those that don't know each other are able to deepen their friendship.
Kondou: Nn, thats it/like that, I also wanted to say that.
Souji: That's just like Kondou-san, you're different from a certain someone who is difficult to deal with.
Hijikata: Souji, say that again!
Souji: What?
Hijikata: well, i finally understand. compared to those new guys, souji, you're the one that's useless.
Souji: If yo're too harsh, the new recruits will run away. Hijikata-san, drink some tea and calm down.
Hijikata: You!
Kondou: Toshi, take a teacup and quickly drink.
Hijikata: Ah.
Souji: then i should probably go back to training.
Kondou: You're going, Souji?
Souji: Yes, Kondou-san. But, don't let everyone run away from the training grounds again. [tho that's an accurate tl, i'm guess this should be more among the lines of "But I can't help it/it's not my fault if everyone runs away from the training grounds again/ But make sure that no one runs away from the training grounds again]
Kondou: Oh?
Souji: they all ran away as soon as they saw my face Why is that?
Hijikata: That's because you're way of teaching is extremely bad. Really, your swordsmanship is better than everyone else's/you are one of the best swordsmen, but why are you so incapable? Listen Kondou-san, rather than training other people, this guy loves fighting way more. Everyone was beaten to the point where they could't get up off the ground.
Kondou: Then it's understandable for why the team members are unwilling.
Souji: Ahaha, to speak of being gentle, I really didn't expect those words from the demon vice-commander.
Kondou: What, in fact Toshi is a very gentle man, right, Toshi?
Hijikata: Hn, who knows.
Kondou: That's how it is, be gentle to everyone.
Souji: Yes yes, but, i've really been gentle with everyone. Then I'll be going. Kondou-san, thank you for your hospitality.
Kondou: Ah, I'll be counting on you [tl literally: please requesting you. check audio]
Souji: Yes.
(souji walks away)
Hijikata: Hah, well, never mind that guy.
Kondou: Do you want another cup of tea?
HIjikaa: Ah, another cup.
Kondou: Then I'll have another as well.
Hijikata: Souji's way of teaching is extremely rough/cruel, so it's unclear if he's actually training other people, or using them for himself to practice.
Kondou: That's because he takes what he does for granted/his success for granted, which is why it's impossible for him to understand those who are unable to.
Hijikata: That guy is still a child, he sticks his foot into everything, but always gets bored immediately after.
Kondou: You don't quite understand souji.
Hijikata: everyone will probably run away again [?].
Kondou: If you're worried, you should go and see.
Hijikata: Eh, there's nothing to be done about that/no way around it then, I'll be going then/I'll be going.
Kondou: I'll go too.
Hijikata: No need, Kondou-san you should just stay here and relax.
Kondou: Nn?
Hijikata: It's because you're the face of the Shinsengumi. The trivial matters of the troop, it's best for you not to be involved in them at all, I'll deal with everything.
Kondou: Nn, is that so? I'm sorry.
Hijikata: the tea was verry good. Then I'll see you later.
(hijikata leaves)
Kondou: Oh. It seems that the beauty of sakura has no effect on an oni. Heh. Good grief.

Happy (Belated) Mid Autumn 中秋節快樂, Official SNOWSKIN Mooncake Edition (Iced Lemon Tea Flavour) 冰皮月餠
(TLDR: 1) I’m late 2) time is broke 3) mooncake economy 4) chang’e 5) snowskin mooncake 6) actual review)
Sorry I’m late but my friend’s mom just psychoanalyzed my dreams earlier and revealed some surprisingly insightful personal insecurities which was unexpected because I was fully prepared for an exorcism instead. I’m very grateful she took the time and energy to do it though! And then straight afterwards the orange president of United States got COVID.
One of my favourite holidays, hands down, love the mooncakes, love the dragons, the lanterns, the fireworks, sad this year is still both somehow still in July but also already been 3 years and the false illusion of linear time has finally broken. In honour of that, and what is left, we pray to the moon our family and friends are well, the roundness of the moon reflecting our eventual reunion (round in chinese sounds like reunion), and personally I also like to wish the moon well for the rest of the year. It got back to me, 3 hours later, in the form of a head of state getting a virus he didn’t believe in but witnessed many die from. The best writers couldn’t make this up.
Even though there’s no festivities this year, our family still managed to get mooncakes to each other, per tradition, so that the yearly mooncake exchange ring is never broken. There is something deeply hilarious to me about how insane mooncakes can get. Like, everyone gives everyone else mooncakes, so you have entirely too many mooncakes, and you can’t possibly finish them all, and also some mooncakes are incredibly dense like half a mooncake is a full meal, so you don’t open them and pass it to another family like your own, like you bought it yourself, and then they pass something back to you that someone else got them which they got from someone else, and there is a very real possibility a mooncake might end up full circle with its original owner. The Mooncake Economy. Cue the music from Directed By Robert B. Weide.
Anyway, mom and I went to “chase the moon” (追月) so we can admire it (赏月) because there is a lovely lady 嫦娥 (pronounced in cantonese as, um, sueng-oogh, I don’t know how to type cantonese sounds in english it’s difficult okay it’s not like pinyin (in mandarin it’s chang-e)) who lives there with a white bunny and a woods axe man and she’s there either as a punishment or reward (depending on who you ask), because she was either selfish or selfless or ignorant (regional variations??) when she ate the immortal pill her husband the masterful archer Hou Yi ( 后羿 ) was awarded after shooting down 9 of the 10 suns because they were making the world too hot. She floated up immediately after taking the pills. Pictured is my mom looking at the moon through my little baby national geographic telescope. It didn’t really show any moon details; it was just a big white ball of light.
This second round of Mid Autumn post is where I comment on an actual mooncake! The snowskin mooncake, wildly popular and largely believed to originate from Hong Kong (some say it comes from Singapore), is everyone’s favourite. It’s much less dense than more traditional varieties, much sweeter, perfect for a dessert, and has a chewy mochi-esque skin (or maybe it is mochi, honestly I have no idea how they make it) surrounding an ice cream-slushie (depending on how long you freeze / defreeze it) texture inside, replacing lotus paste. And it comes in different flavours! This one I had is the Iced Lemon Tea flavour, apt for a drinks blog.
Iced Lemon Tea Flavour Snow Skin Mooncake
From: yeemaaa + shifu
From the Maxim Cha Can Ting 茶餐廳 Collection, and Oh it’s so good. Oooohhhh it’s so gooooooood. Very clear lemon tea flavour, so the slight shadow of acidic sourness pairs very well with the sweet side. Just a hint of tang to spice things up. I’m actually getting a very clear aftertaste of hk iced lemon tea. It’s so good. Mom says it tastes like lemon cola, and unlike usual mooncakes. She says it’s okay.

Fiction Recommendation 17
I can’t believe it’s already half a year since the last fiction recommendation, so I guess its high-time for another round! Still Xicheng-centric and as with previous recommendations, the fictions are recommended based on my personal liking and not listed in any particular order other than when I read them. I also apologize for the crude summaries…
Canon/semi-canon
1. 再晨 by 说快板的鸣筝
Post-mdzs - in which the foreign golden core in Jiang Cheng’s body finally consumed his spiritual energy, leading to the sect leader’s untimely death. Cue a year later, Lan Xichen returns to Gusu after his travels with a kid that is the identical image of Jiang Cheng. They say he is the former sect leader’s reincarnation, but what if he is more than that? Still-updating.
2. 错 by 沐
Post-mdzs abo-universe. Rumor has it that Lan Xichen lost his omega Jin Guangyao at the Guanyin temple. One night, after drinking, Lan Xichen was helped by a mysterious Samaritan with a lotus fragrance. Jiang Cheng promised his assistance in seeking out the person. But other things come up first, involving the remaining cultivators in the Su sect and Jiang Cheng’s close brush with death.
4. 水龙吟 by 桃蛋白
Lan Xichen is summoned by Jin Ling’s distressed cries, only to see Jiang Cheng’s body and memory return to his teenage years. Now that Jiang Cheng has forgotten the past, relationship between him and Wei Wuxian seems to be mending again. Only later do they learn that this is part of Jiang Cheng’s plan, to return what he owes to Wei Wuxian. *Warning for somewhat girly/childish Jiang Cheng when he returns to his teenage years.
5. The Beginner's Guide To Moving On by messenger18
“Jiang Cheng is jaded, bitter and miserable. Lan Xichen isn't sure he can ever trust anyone again. They've always been at the periphery of each other's lives, perpetually visible but never touching, and it seems it's going to stay that way. Then Jin Ling and Lan Sizhui fall in love, and everything changes.
Thrown together as the only single men in a family full of couples, neither is exactly happy about their situation. But when two lonely people find each other, sometimes they can be a little less lonely together.”
6. 天下第一美男子 by 呦呦鹿鸣
One-shot fluff. They all say Zewu-Jun is no.1 on the cultivator rank. But for the sake of finding a missing silver bell, he is willing to drop from rank.
7. 浮生缘 by 路卡卡
Post-mdzs. A story of how Jiang Cheng and Lan Xichen come together: from casual drinking to teaching the Lan sect leader how to swim, to saving one another during night hunt.
8. 相逢一笑 by 云中雁
The lanterns which travel on the river will capsize right around the bend. That was what Jiang Yanli said after Jin Zixuan rejected her yet again. Many years later, one lone lantern makes it past the bend with Lan Xichen’s help. A fiction about how Jiang Cheng overcomes his emotions about his golden core.
9. 绾青丝 by 清歌晚吟
One-shot. Long hair, short hair - Lan Xichen seems to have difficulty choosing between them.
10. 万万没想到 之 真假美泽芜 by 戊己壬癸
The secret of Lan SiZui’s bloodline is out! But that comes after he is seriously wounded and needs a special herb to cure it. The only known herb location? Lotus Pier.
Or: a story in which Wei Wuxian tries to steal the herb and in the course of doing so realize something between the Jiang and Lan sect leaders.
11. 论如何强行打破江宗主的“相亲必吹”魔咒 by 我想吃八宝粥
When it comes to matchmaking, our dear Sect leader Jiang has had no luck. But he doesn’t give up yet! With the help of Zewu-Jun to guide him, he’ll certainly find his soulmate, right?
12. 原来你也是断袖 by 老蚌怀珠
Headless livestock that can move about? Our Jiang and Lan sect leaders are on the case!
The story starts off with Jiang Cheng noticing the more-than-comfy relationship between Jin Ling and Sizhui. But perhaps he needs to worry more about himself than the juniors. A couple of directed remarks from others and the incessant ringing of the Jiang sect bell later, Jiang Cheng realizes that he might’ve fallen for Lan Xichen. **Warning for R18 content in one of the chapters.
13. 岁月穿堂 by 采风写歌
Semi-canon abo-verse. In a bet to see who could obtain the blood jade and become the head of cultivators, Jiang Cheng and Lan Xichen head out towards the Yu family mountain. There they learn more about each other’s past and grievances.
14. 五次泽芜君试图把江宗主哄上床,一次他成功了 by 松香雅韵
Jiang Cheng has a tendency to not rest, whether it was during his teenage years where he stayed up practicing his sword, or when he is older and tasked with running the whole sect. Lan Xichen takes it upon himself to coax the other to rest. One-shot.
15. 板栗 by 江家兔紫
Everyone knows that Jiang Cheng hates to eat chestnuts, partly due to painful memories of happier times. Lan Xichen convinced him that it is not that bad.
16. Upon Our Silver Bridge by TheWanderingHeart
“Lan Xichen's sorrows have caught the attention of something. Unlike the adventures and foes they have faced before, there is no obvious enemy here to defeat. If this is the same thing they thought had taken Nie MingJue's life, then he believes it is fated for him to die as well. Nothing can stop the black fire when it wants to burn.
Jiang Cheng is sure his part in this is over. Wei Wuxian is back, his grand adventure concluded, and he'd never been at the centre of it anyway. So what does it matter what happens to him in the end?
Slowly, he will come to realise that there will always be a battle to fight, a story to tell, a choice to make, and there is no such thing as an end to anything.”
AU
1. 爱情的智齿 by 奔跑的毛毛
Modern one-shot AU. Four years ago, Jiang Cheng went overseas to train as a dentist, breaking off his relationship with Lan Xichen. Four years later, Lan Xichen is suffering from a wisdom tooth ache. His secretary recommends him to a newly opened clinic, and the dentist? None other than his ex-boyfriend who ran away four years ago.
2. 针锋相对 by 奔跑的毛毛
Modern AU - Dr. Jiang and CEO Lan. Being a maternity specialist, Jiang Cheng has seen it all, including men who are not willing to take responsibility for their partner’s pregnancy. Then he meets CEO Lan, whom he mistook for ‘one of those’ men again, only to be proven wrong.
3. 飞鸟 by 我和我的邻二氮菲
Modern ABO-verse. Have you fall in love with a person who is like a bird? Someone who seems to escape through your fingers?
Or: the story where Lan Xichen thinks that Jiang Cheng doesn’t care about him anymore. One-shot.
4. 君到姑苏见 by Jessica卡卡
Mermaid AU. Many years ago, Lan Xichen disappeared. Jiang Cheng goes out to find him. One-shot.
5. 情迷维也纳 by Jessica卡卡
A car accident temporarily robs Jiang Cheng of his eyesight. During his recovery, Jiang Cheng goes to Vienna for a visit, and meets his romance there. One-shot.
6. 财神到 by 蘅蘅
Every new year the gods come down from Heaven to carry out the errand of the God of Prosperity: delivering money to the designated One. Jiang Cheng seems to always end up helping the special needs, until he meets a blind pianist. After that he doesn’t want to return to Heaven anymore. One-shot.
7. 大侠也要过年啊 by 说快板的鸣筝
To help those in need is one of the tasks of being a hero. Jiang Cheng helps a scholar in need and is trailed by said scholar under the pretense of giving thanks. Turns out that the ‘scholar’ might be someone he admires. One-shot.
8. 相思无解 by 江挽月
Jiang Cheng’s profession is to restore valuable old paintings. One day he chances upon an old painting drawn by an unknown artist. Despite this, something in Jiang Cheng tells him to restore the painting, along with the memories and illusion that are kept within. Warning for angst.
9. 表面上针锋相对,实际上根本就是在调情 by 江挽月
One-shot fluff. Every since they were young Lan Xichen has bested Jiang Cheng at everything: at school and even at work. But who is to say that enemies on the surface aren’t secret lovers?
10. 家长里短 by 发条薇
One-shot. Yu Ziyuan finally decides that she has had enough of her unhappy marriage and files a divorce. Her unborn baby signals the start of a new life. There to support her are the wives of the Jin and Lan families, along with Cangse. This is a story about XiCheng growing up together.
11. 秋水误平生 by 是星辰啊
Lan Huan is a mountain god, protecting all living things on the mountain until one day, a youth soaked in blood crashed onto his mountain. The youth is chased by the notorious black dragon tribe, but is saved by Lan Huan, who adopted him as his disciple. Years went by, the two’s relationship develop, to the point where they are willing to sacrifice for one another. A story of reincarnation and continued searching across lives.
And one more non-XiCheng but Jiang Cheng-centric fic rec because I love that character so much: murky waters by newamsterdam
Convinced Jiang Cheng and Wei WuXian will never reconcile of their own accord, Jin Ling takes matters into his own hands by trapping both of his uncles alone, together, without their cultivation.

中秋节快乐!Happy Mid-Autumn Festival! 🌕 Writing a bit on the blog later because I've just been a bit too swamped and exhausted to get excited about the moon via stories but it's one of my favorite holidays of the year. We celebrate the moon (my best friend), family, and delicious food because it used to celebrate using up preserved foods before the harvest. I failed and adapted a lot just over the THREE DAYS I spent preparing to make these. The prep of the kabocha squash for the wrappers and the filling. The hours I spent prepping the sticky dough for snowskin mooncakes. The hour or so I spent just failing to make those and abandoning them to just focus on 南瓜饼 instead. It was a welcome distraction from everything else that's been on my mind this week, like tight deadlines at work, upticks in COVID cases in New York, and how many family holidays I may have to spend without seeing the rest of my family. Anyway, I haven't tried these or the fried ones yet but I hope they're as tasty as they look! I'm excited to see everyone else's mooncakes. Enjoy the full harvest moon if you can~ https://www.instagram.com/p/CF0h_P8spU_/?igshid=1foycvqqa9dn3
