I'm not even kidding. I was lucky to be amongst people who adored Shiro when I got into vld. Shiro was also the character of choice of many and I mean MANY gay men. He was often shipped by said gay men with Keith or Ulaz. And I think the main reason was because Keith was the leader of the Shiro defence squad (including, famously, David Gaider). The weird rhetoric started almost entirely from a specific section of shippers post season 2 when suddenly sha/llura was no longer allowed following a throw away comment by her VA (because sk wasn't allowed and antis needed to pretend to show consistency). And then kl antis basically just started acting like their personal headcanons were facts. Given that many of them were basing everything off of the k/ible and the later k/ancetament I'm not surprised that they completely misread everything Shiro was or presented. He was labelled a bad person incapable of loving someone simply to shut down a specific ship and then with the shiro vlog where he makes a lighthearted joke about l/ance it just went downhill.

@lnkedmyheart, I appreciate the counter and alternate perspective! Admittedly, my only engagements with the fanbase, outside of a rogue Youtube recommendation, have been on Tumblr and Archive Of Our Own. And, with K/L being, by far, the most popular ship, and Lance and Keith being the most popular characters on both of these sites, I've been inundated with a lot of... "questionable" opinions on Shiro. (People pretending they don't hate him while espousing the nastiest ableist, ageist, homophobic rhetoric based on absolutely nothing but the versions of these characters they've fabricated in their heads.) I don't use TikTok, but everything I've seen in screenshots and reposts on Tumblr and Youtube indicates that it is a cesspit of the worst ignorance, sensationalism, pettiness, immaturity, and puritanism from Tumblr and Twitter congealed into one massive lake of sewage and sludge.

The people who despise Shiro are definitely indulging in some sort of substance. How else do you explain looking at this man,

and deciding that he's an old, "broken", "monster"?

(It shouldn't be a point of pride for these people to regurgitate the exact language of Shiro's abuser.)

I can understand if Shiro isn't someone's cup of tea. We don't choose the favorite character, the favorite character chooses us. Maybe they find his quiet, reserved personality unappealing because they prefer louder, flashy, hyperactive types, or comic relief. That's fine. But, people who despise Takashi Shirogane are completely out of touch with reality.

So, I’ve been rewatching at lot of shows lately--things I’ve already seen before. It’s a combination of not being able to find something new to watch that will grab my interest without being too much and what I’m dubbing my SAD/COVID Depression. (Yes, like many people, I’m not doing great with confinement and winter months aren’t making it better.)

Anyway, I decided to give V L D a try again. I managed to watch up until the last season. I stopped myself from watching more because I wanted to catch up on writing. (I upped my word goal for February.) But now I’m just... not motivated to finish. I can’t find the energy to rewatch it and get mad all over again at how dirty they did the characters.

Instead, I put on Bob’s Burgers again--because I am, if nothing else, a creature of habit and Bob’s is consistently the show that gives me the most laughs for my time.

I still haven’t forgiven the showrunners for what they did in the last season, nor the K//antis for ruining the fandom.

Alright, but like have you ever had a ship that you would have been neutral on if not for the shippers? Like I would have been fine with K!ance but the shippers are so annoying that I just can’t stand them.

Keith stressed, shaking his head. "Because I'm in love with you! And it's pissing me off that you won't even look my way when I say 'hi'! You only talked me that one time because James was sick and his seat next to you was open, so I took it! You're untouchable, and all I want to do is break down your walls and make love to you!" He kissed him again, harder this time. Keith bit down, but Lance didn't care and bit back. Keith recoiled, parting his lips, and Lance shoved his tongue in to Keith's muffled displeasure. "I just want you to be mine." Lance said, reaching up to grip Keith's hair and tug his head back to bare his neck. He reached to unzip the uniform shirt to show more of it. "Not Shiro's, and don't think I haven't noticed the way you look at him. Not James', and don't think I don't know what you two do together. I want you to be mine!" "T-Tay--" "It's Lance." Lance corrected him. "It hurts, stop!" Keith shook his head and Lance went in and kissed his neck before lightly nipping it. "Stop it!" "Say my name." Lance said, looking up at him. "What's my name, Keith?" "'The Tailor'...right?" "No, it's not 'Taylor'." Lance shook his head. "Say. My. Name. It’s--" "Lance!" Lance looked up in surprise to see another Cadet coming out of the shadows with James. "Lance, what are you doing?!" "Get away from him!" James ran forward and roughly pulled Lance away from Keith, throwing him to the ground before he kicked him in the gut. Or, he meant to, at least. He missed due to Lance's squirming and hit lower. "HHHHHHHHHHNNNNNNNN!" Lance let out a high-pitched squeak and moved his hands down to cover his crotch. "Owwwwwwww..." "Serves you right." Keith huffed. James turned to Keith. "Are you okay?" "Just get me out of this and I'll be fine." Keith said, and James set to work removing the second cuff before he lifted Keith into his arms. "Let's get you back home." James said, then frowned at Lance, who was starting to get up. "Here, hold him." He handed Keith to the other cadet and then did a roundhouse kick that sent Lance into the wall. "Yikes! Don't kill him!" The cadet yelped. James knelt down next to Lance. "He's fine, he's just knocked out. Let's get them both back to the Galaxy Garrison. Thank you for helping, cadet." "Call me Hunk." The cadet grinned and handed Keith, who was looking tired out from all of it, back to James. "Keith, you okay?" James asked as Hunk went to go pick up Lance. "Mmnn..." Keith closed his eyes, his tense body finally relaxing. James sighed and held him tighter. "I kept him safe, Shiro. Just like you asked. Let's hope I can keep this up until you come back..." - The next morning, they found out that both Keith and Lance had forgotten the event, Keith due to shock and Lance due to his concussion. After telling them both excuses for being in the medical bay, James and Hunk walked out into the hall to talk. "We can't punish him for something neither of them remember him doing." James said, leaning against the wall with his arms crossed over his chest. "He might...do it again." Hunk said, looking down with his hands in his pockets.

"We can't let it happen again." James said grimly. "I'll keep an eye on him." Hunk promised. "Can you do that?" James looked at him. "We have all the same classes." Hunk smiled. James nodded. "Alright. Then, I leave him to you. Thanks." "You take care of Keith." Hunk smiled. "Until Shiro gets back." "Ah, you heard me last night, huh?" James chuckled. "Yeah...until he gets back. And maybe even after. He needs to be cared for." Hunk nodded. "Well, I better go back in." "Me too." James nodded and then they both walked in. -- Finally, the long-awaited thrilling conclusion! And, with that, Yandare Lance is over! (...For now. >:>) James can be a bit overprotective but it's totally justified! This is officially my first time drawing Hunk ever, and he looks adorable, so I'm pleased. Poor Keith, he never did get his name right. Ah well, he'll get it right in the future. XD

Hey what's with the klance hate? I know some of the fandom goes a bit too far but for the most part people are just trying to enjoy themselves in the fandom and keeping it within the community. Yeah they're a bit crazy sometimes, the theories and metas are a reach, but they're not hurting anyone. It's upsetting to see anti stuff in tags and it only contributes to the negativity already in the fandom- it's pretty hypocritical of you to post hate on klancers.

Ah, yes, a “bit too far”, such as threatening to cause bodily harm to the cast and crew ofer the ship, to the point where cast and crew can no longer attend conventions due to fear for their safety, harassing all of the cast on their social media accounts, while also fanatically attacking anyone and everyone who DARES to even vaguely suggest that their fetishized ship isn’t canon.

They very nearly HAVE hurt people, they have acted in a disgraceful and reprehensible manner, and I, for one, don’t feel any desire to grant them even the slightest bit of respect, because newsflash skippy: respect is earned, not given freely.

Also, I make sure to properly tag my posts as “anti klance”, and so the fact that tumblr’s search engine is a complete dumpster fire is not my fault.

What kind of delusional fairy land do you live in? Have you even been aware of the fandom for the past… I don’t know… two years?

your tags 100%, I thought kl///ance was the cutest thing back in s1 and s2, and now I can’t stand it. if it eveR happened in canon of course I’d support it because the canon characters are lovely, but fandom is ridiculous. the only good thing having the ship blown up did was force me to find other ones and I’ve met so many wonderful people through loving other ships. this sounds so melodramatic which is another reason I hate this fandom but it’s so hARD to find stuff outside of kl///ance :(

Ok but the same logic can apply to both of these. …If klantis claim that they used female pronouns bc they’re trying to hide Lance’s love interest being a guy (despite the fact that Jeremy has said that Lance is smitten for Allura), couldn’t they also be describing Shiro and Keith’s closeness as platonic to hide their possible relationship. Because it’s undeniable that Shiro and Keith are close. It’s impossible to ignore their bond. It makes sense for Lauren and Santos to give them platonic labels if they were covering up a possible relationship…
