Guys… I finally listened to the wall and….
OMG IT WAS SO GOOD!!!
Like, I could hear how much effort was put into every aspect of this album! The storytelling, the themes, the lyrics, the harmonies/melodies, the singing, the instruments… everything was so good! I was extremely captivated while listening, trying to figure out the plot (I honestly do not exactly understand was happening here in this album plot wise, but I’m going to look it up later, though some things I definitely understood more than others like the building of the wall). I also loved how cinematic and dramatic this album was! I felt completely immersed into its musical-esque atmosphere (especially during The Trial, which felt just like a classic Broadway musical song imo). I honestly think this is a much better execution of a rock opera than Tommy was (though Tommy had much easier to understand lyrics). My favorite aspects of this album definitely have to be the singing (how it sometimes switches between David and Roger singing lead) and how its executed/delivered (along with the harmonies in songs like The Happiest Days Of Our Lives, Goodbye Blue Sky, Is There Anybody Out There, The Show Must Go On, and Waiting for the Worms) along with the instrumentation and production (they’re SO GOOD). I also like how some references to other PF songs are made on here (e.g. Echoes, Careful With That Axe Eugene and One of These Days) Here are some songs that particularly stood out to me/are my favorites so far after my first listen (in order of appearance on the album):
The Thin Ice
Another Brick in the Wall, Pt. 2
Mother (the lyrics and their delivery are so good here, along with the acoustic guitar)
Goodbye Blue Sky (the harmonies here ARE AMAZING along with the acoustic guitar and melody)
Young Lust
One of My Turns
Don’t Leave Me Now (I adore how ominous and dark this song sounds, to me it sounds like the musical representation of dark obsession)
Hey You
Comfortably Numb (easily the best song on this album imo)
The Show Must Go On
Run Like Hell (sounds groovy AND ominous! Love it)
Waiting for the Worms
This album honestly now has to be one of my fave PF albums, easily in the top 5, and is now one of my fave albums ever. Will definitely listen again!

I’m not a fan of “The Wall”. It’s well made and well played. As a songwriting achievement, musical composition, and demonstration of top notch musical production, it was unparalleled in its time.
But I don’t enjoy listening to it. Most of the tracks are nothing I would go out of my way to hear. The “singles”: Young Lust, Run Like Hell, Another Brick (pt. 2), Hey You, Mother, & Comfortably Numb; are alright as standalones but are better within the context of the whole album.
Quite the conundrum.
This brings me to the song of the day. And a PSA from your karaoke host:
Karaoke should be fun! Ability is nice, but a fun and friendly attitude can work, too.
Friends do not let friends sing this song at karaoke.
I know it’s late. You’ve had just enough to remind everyone why interaction with you is best kept confined to the bar. And you will. On the microphone for six and a half minutes.
The crowd hears your name, looks at the time and heads for 🚽 or outside for 🚬. Why?
It’s overplayed, and that makes it even worse to hear, because it’s not a fun song.
Even if you Could do it.
PSA ENDS
It’s almost the whole album condensed into one song: a cry for release from self imposed isolation.
“Comfortably Numb” by Pink Floyd

Braving the RS 500 Greatest Albums of All Time: #87, Pink Floyd - The Wall
(Start date: April 19th, 2018 / Day 322)
From Rolling Stone:
Pink Floyd's most elaborately theatrical album was inspired by their own success: the alienating enormity of their tours after The Dark Side of the Moon [see No. 43]. As the band played arenas in 1977, bassist-lyricist Roger Waters first hit upon the wall as a metaphor for isolation and rebellion. He finished a demo of the work by July 1978; the double album then took the band a year to make. Rock's ultimate self-pity opera, The Wall is also hypnotic in its indulgence: the totalitarian thunder of "In the Flesh?," the suicidal languor of "Comfortably Numb," the Brechtian drama of "The Trial" and the anti-institutional spleen of the album's unshakable disco hit, "Another Brick in the Wall, Pt. 2." Rock-star hubris has never been more electrifying.
So anyone who knows me at all knows that this is my favorite album of all time. While I don’t necessarily acknowledge it as “the greatest” it holds a significant place in my heart and I love it immensely. I’ve easily listened to it in full a hundred times. I’m shocked my CD has no scratches.
One can sense more than a little bit of contempt in Rolling Stone’s description of this album. Most of the other concept albums featured are more or less synopsized in their description, though little is offered here aside from “self-pity opera” and “rock-star hubris”––too condensed for my taste.
Here’s a better description: Water’s definitive rock opera follows a character named Pink, based loosely upon himself and former bandmate Syd Barrett, and his struggles with isolation beginning in his childhood, and deepening as he’s propelled to success as a musician. Every instance that causes him to fall deeper into his isolation is symbolized by a brick in a metaphorical wall. The album is divided into two parts, the first of which details Pink’s gradual decline into complete loneliness, the second describing his experiences within it.
Maybe making the principal character of the story a rock star is the equivalent of an author making their main character a writer. I suppose it’s a fair criticism, but it doesn’t really obfuscate the intended point, the universality of isolation, the fact that no one can escape it, how these feelings permeate other areas of life, the roles we take on as a way of compensating for it. You could probably apply the ideas to anyone in any role, but hey, if you’re crafting your theatrical zenith, by all means, make it at theatrical as possible.
What I’ve always considered to be the most compelling and meaningful part of the album is the arc with Pink’s wife, and it’s not a coincidence that five tracks are dedicated to the destruction of their relationship. The earlier traumatic instances––his father’s death, his mother’s overbearing presence in his life, the abuse he sustained from school teachers––were all completely out of his control, but with her, he makes the conscious choice to push her away, asking “How should I complete the wall?” before cheating on her in “Young Lust” and abusing her in “One of My Turns”. Her departure causes Pink to finally withdraw completely into himself because this time, he wasn’t simply a victim of circumstance. He has no one to blame but himself. It’s a damning statement––that trauma is, for many, completely unavoidable, but one’s own agency takes precedence over all else.
As a rock opera, there isn’t a single song that isn’t melodically strong, certainly to David Gilmour’s credit. Though the band was caught in deep strife at the time of its recording, Waters and Gilmour specifically, it’s easily the apex of their combined skill. It’s beautifully crafter and beautifully delivered, always clear and deliberate, without a single moment that’s offensive to the ear.
Maybe I assign insincere depth to this record because I love it too much, or maybe it truly is critically oversimplified. It’s difficult for me personally to tell, but my belief in it is unshakeable. “The Wall” has no peers, and likely never will.
Year: 1979 Standout Track(s): The Thin Ice, Another Brick In The Wall Pt 2, Goodbye Blue Sky, Empty Spaces/Young Lust, Another Brick In The Wall Pt 3, Hey You, Nobody Home, Comfortably Numb, In The Flesh, Run Like Hell, Waiting For The Worms Rating: 5/5 - An unparalleled theatrical masterpiece

Magnetic Eye Records' exhaustive undertaking to re-envision Pink Floyd's concept masterpiece THE WALL in its entirety from end to end in sequence, featuring some of the most iconic artists in heavy music today alongside some of the most exciting newcomers:
THE MELVINS / LOW FLYING HAWKS / GHASTLY SOUND / SERGEANT THUNDERHOOF / SASQUATCH / ASG / MOS GENERATOR / DOMKRAFT / THE SLIM KINGS / WORSHIPPER / SPACESLUG / YEAR OF THE COBRA / GREENLEAF / SUMMONER / SCOTT REEDER (Kyuss!) / MARK LANEGAN (Screaming Trees!) / RUBY THE HATCHET / SUNFLO’ER / MARS RED SKY / OPEN HAND / SOLACE / PALLBEARER / WHITENAILS / BLUE HERON / CHURCH OF THE COSMIC SKULL / YAWNING MAN
It started with a Kickstarter fundraiser in early 2017 and the demand was clear, even before a single artist was announced. And the bands and artists they corralled – all 26 of them, from stoner legends to upstarts in heavy music – clearly had something to get off their chests. Some turned the songs they chose (or were given, in some instances) on their heads, others stuck closely to Pink Floyd’s template. But collectively they lifted the songs and the album to a whole new level.
Oh yeah, did I mention that The Melvins kick the whole album off? The Melvins. Doing ‘In the Flesh?’ With their own lyrics. If that is not enough motivation to buy this album, then I don’t know what is.
The Wall was very much a product of its time. This album is a work of art for today.

Roger Waters The Wall Film Müzikleri
Yapımcılığını Nigel Godrich’in üstlendiği “Roger Waters The Wall“, tüm kuşakların tadını çıkarabileceği coşku uyandıran bir dinleme deneyimi sunuyor. Yalnız show’u gören fanatiklerinin değil bununla birlikte orada olmayan yada “The Wall”u ilk kez keşfetmekte olanlar için konserin son armağanı durumunda.
“Roger Waters The Wall“, ek olarak büyük ilgi gören uzun metrajlı aynı adlı filmin eş emek vermesi…
