Thinking about how mike doesn't really fit into a particular small part of the friend group and the angst potential

Like he's not technically one of Steve's kids(six nuggets, three girls(Erica, max, El), three boys(Lucas, Dustin, will.))

him and Nancy are barely close and have basically no positive scenes together(if you want to point out small technicalities go ahead I'm just saying over all).

Eddie is dead.

Him and Jonathan aren't close,

Joyce has never really interacted with him on a emotional level much,

And don't even get me started on the shit show of crappy communication that is his relationship with Hopper. Like they have mutual appreciation for each other most of the time and don't let the other know they care.

And I TRUST that I don't have to explain what's wrong with his parents relationship to him.

honestly he kinda floats around in the show there's never a set group he stays with.

So, I feel there's a lot of potential for angsty fanfic writers(+the writers of ST) to take advantage of. Case and point ☝️

Imagine the party(everyone) is scouting an area of the newly opened Hawkins-upsidedown-mashup-thingy.

Mike, unsurprisingly does something stupid to protect the well being of one of the party members, he gets hurt.

Now because of this set up this can go many different ways:

He could try to deal with it himself because he doesn't have anyone to fall back on in situations like this

He could try to hide it to not be a burden

He could get shit from the party for it instead of someone telling him his life is worth a lot and that while they appreciate it he needs to value his own life as well.

There are a lot more those are just some examples.

This poor child has no one to fall back on and he has no older figure in his life that he feels he can tell them anything and they will love him unconditionally. That's so FUCKING sad.

it's always so fascinating and heartbreaking when a character in a story is simultaneously idolized and abused. a chosen prophet destined for martyrdom. a child prodigy forced to grow up too fast. a powerful warrior raised as nothing but a weapon. there's just something so uniquely messed up about singing someone's praises whilst destroying them.

One thing golden era Wattpad writers had going for them was that they knew the importance of a buildup. I'm of the opinion that the sexual tension is WAY more satisfying to read than the actual sex and quite frankly there is a serious lack of non smutty writing.

Like I really miss reading fics/ x readers that start from scratch. Meeting the characters, initial reactions getting to know them, the tension the jealousy the TENSION the freaking tension.

Looking and looking away when they get spotted, touches that feel like they linger but perhaps they didn't and they're both so hot for each other that they think it's wishful thinking. And I don't mean just sweet sunshine romances, darker works can have a buildup too but it seems like so much is just about getting to the smut instead of the psychological aspect.

Bring back the build up!!!!!!!

Some of my favorite words and phrases to describe a character in pain

coiling (up in a ball, in on themselves, against something, etc)

panting (there’s a slew of adjectives you can put after this, my favorites are shakily, weakly, etc)

keeling over (synonyms are words like collapsing, which is equally as good but overused in media)

trembling/shivering (additional adjectives could be violently, uncontrollably, etc)

sobbing (weeping is a synonym but i’ve never liked that word. also love using sob by itself, as a noun, like “he let out a quiet sob”)

whimpering (love hitting the wips with this word when a character is weak, especially when the pain is subsiding. also love using it for nightmares/attacks and things like that)

clinging (to someone or something, maybe even to themselves or their own clothes)

writhing/thrashing (maybe someone’s holding them down, or maybe they’re in bed alone)

crying (not actual tears. cry as in a shrill, sudden shout)

dazed (usually after the pain has subsided, or when adrenaline is still flowing)

wincing (probably overused but i love this word. synonym could be grimacing)

doubling-over (kinda close to keeling over but they don’t actually hit the ground, just kinda fold in on themselves)

heaving (i like to use it for describing the way someone’s breathing, ex. “heaving breaths” but can also be used for the nasty stuff like dry heaving or vomiting)

gasping/sucking/drawing in a breath (or any other words and phrases that mean a sharp intake of breath, that shite is gold)

murmuring/muttering/whispering (or other quiet forms of speaking after enduring intense pain)

hiccuping/spluttering/sniffling (words that generally imply crying without saying crying. the word crying is used so much it kinda loses its appeal, that’s why i like to mix other words like these in)

stuttering (or other general terms that show an impaired ability to speak — when someone’s in intense pain, it gets hard to talk)

staggering/stumbling (there is a difference between pain that makes you not want to stand, and pain that makes it impossible to stand. explore that!)

recoiling/shrinking away (from either the threat or someone trying to help)

pleading/begging (again, to the threat, someone trying to help, or just begging the pain to stop)
