Brit I absolutely love love love the detail you put into the food & cooking in your fics! I was wondering if Baby Girl and Bird have favorite dishes to cook, and/or if Andy and Ari have favorites as well? xx
Hi friend! It makes me so happy to know that you enjoy those little details. Both Baby Girl and Bird have a passion for cooking and baking, just like I do. And I often research different recipes when writing about the meals they create to help people visualize. So thank you for that lovely compliment!
And as for your question about their favorite dishes, here you go:
Baby Girl: Favorite Dessert: This girl will happily whip up a glazed lemon pound cake from scratch any day of the week. It's her specialty. The secret is adding fresh squeezed lemon juice as well as a package of instant lemon pudding to the batter. And if she's feeling frisky, she might even throw together a blueberry compote to go with it.
Favorite Meal: Smothered pork chops, with garlic red skin mashed potatoes and southern style green beans. Now this is a Barber Family Favorite that actually takes a bit of time to prepare. Which means that this is more of a Sunday dinner type of occasion.
She typically puts the beans on simmer around noon. In case people are curious, Baby Girl prefers using smoked turkey over ham hocks, simply because that's how she grew up.
Bird: Favorite Dessert: As many of you know, our sweet Bird does not play when it comes to baking. Ari almost got hurt when he insulted her legendary Peach Cobbler. That splash of bourbon really takes the recipe to the next level. She also loves making her award-winning Brambleberry Pie. Lately she's been busy perfecting her Brown Butter Pecan Chocolate Chip Cookies. And her Beast is more than happy to be her guinea pig anytime.
Favorite Meal: Bird is not quite as accomplished a cook as BG, but she is pretty darn good when she sets her mind to it. Her favorite thing to make for both herself and Ari is probably a slow simmered Pot Roast, complete with potatoes, carrots, and mushrooms. Our girl also likes to add a healthy glass of red wine to the mix as well. Which truly makes for a delicious meal.
As for Andy and Ari, they will happily devour anything their girls set in front of them. They always appreciate the effort, even if things don't quite turn out like they hoped. Neither man likes seeing their lady upset when a dish doesn't work out.
So in the event that occurs, they're quick to order takeout of some sort and then go straight for the snuggles. Because those men are usually pretty attention-starved on a good day. It works for both couples and that's all that matters.
Thanks for the ask!

I’m back! Sorta. As Massachusetts has started to slowly emerge from quarantine, I’ve managed to do 3-shoots in the past few weeks. Two of them are out and able to be shared - plus one more from last summer finally made an appearance.
First up was a day spent with uber-chef Ming Tsai, and his team from MingsBings to create a library of images for the launch of their new Bing. Wait, what’s a Bing? It’s a dumpling/patty/flatbread hybrid that pairs with...well most things. Which is how we photographed it, solo, and paired with some of Mings favorite dishes.
Before my day with Ming though, I spent a morning with fisherman BG Brown in Gloucester, for Northshore magazine. Fishing during a pandemic is...different, and the magazine wanted to dig into what that looks like for BG and his business.
Finally, last up is a shoot from last summer from a day spent at Maitland Mountain Farm with Holly & Andy (and a few dozen chickens) at their Salem farm. Salem isn’t historically filled with farmland, making what Holly and Andy are able to accomplish in what is essentially a large backyard even more impressive.
Hopefully these new shoots are a sign of things to come, and I’ll have more regular updates to this page all summer.

MerleFest is here!
Kris Kristofferson
MerleFest 2018 is here. The festival, presented by Window World, kicks off Thursday, April 26, at 2:30 p.m., and runs through Sunday, April 29; an estimated 75,000-plus participants will gather at this year’s annual homecoming of musicians and music lovers to celebrate the world renowned MerleFest.
With over 120 artists performing on 13 stages spread across campus, MerleFest fans have come to expect the unexpected. Late night jam sessions, band competitions, special guests onstage, impromptu dance parties and one-time-only musical collaborations are all a part of the fabric of MerleFest – and a testament to the enduring vision of Doc Watson and the Watson family.
A key part of this vision is Doc’s love of “traditional plus” music, a moniker he created to describe a unique mix of music based on the traditional, roots-oriented sounds of the Appalachian Mountain region, including bluegrass and old-time, and expanded to include Americana, country, blues, rock and “whatever other styles we were in the mood to play.” Today, this spirit means that country music star Jamey Johnson will rub shoulders with bluegrass visionary Rhiannon Giddens, folk legend Kris Kristofferson will play the same stage as the Steep Canyon Rangers and Steve Martin. As the nation’s largest roots and Americana festival, MerleFest has room for all those who treasure musical tradition.
“The programming this year is incredibly diverse in both musical styling, origin, culture, and gender. We have artists/bands from Australia, Canada, France, Germany, United Kingdom, Sweden, Ireland, Cuba, and the United States on our 2018 lineup and we couldn’t be more excited to showcase that talent on our 13 stages. Thursday kicks off with the Kruger Brothers and follows with Kris Kristofferson, Robert Earl Keen, and The Mavericks and continues through the weekend with Bela Fleck and Abigail Washburn, Jamey Johnson, Sam Bush, Mandolin Orange, Jerry Douglas and Tommy Emmanuel, Rhiannon Giddens, Alison Brown, and Steep Canyon Rangers with Steve Martin, just to name a few. It’s sure to be a great year of music, moments, and memories!” states MerleFest Artist Relations Manager Steve Johnson.
Returning band members of Town Mountain are proud to be a part of this year’s MerleFest celebration. "For most of us, on either side of the stage, MerleFest kicks off the beginning of the festival season and that couldn't be more welcomed at the end of a long winter. The significance of MerleFest is one that cannot be summed up in a quote or maybe even a textbook. But if you've been, then you know how important it is to the whole acoustic music community and beyond! There's nothing that feels better then to take part in an event that celebrates the lives of Merle, Doc and Rosa Lee Watson, true royalty in American music," says banjo player Jesse Langlais.
For MerleFest 2018, Town Mountain and noted songwriter Jim Lauderdale will host the Midnight Jam, presented by renowned music publication BGS at the Walker Center. Starting at 10:30 p.m. and running well past midnight, the 2018 Midnight Jam will feature a very special Doc Watson Tribute.
In addition to Lauderdale and Town Mountain, the Midnight Jam will host a wide array of talent, including performances by Buddy Miller, Frank Solivan and Dirty Kitchen, John Cowan, Andrew Marlin and Emily Frantz of Mandolin Orange, Bryan Sutton, and many more. A separate ticket is required and available for purchase by four-day, three-day and Saturday ticket holders. Town Mountain will also host the Saturday Night Barn Dance, another Merlefest moment not to be missed; the lively and loud event starts at 7:45 p.m. on the Dance Stage.
In addition to musical performances, MerleFest offers special activities and unique shopping options. The Shoppes at MerleFest is a centrally-located shopping village that features demonstrating artisans, vendors, convenience foods, official MerleFest memorabilia and services such as first aid, lost and found, and Internet access.
The Dance Stage and the Mayes Pit (Thompson Hall) will both feature various workshops and dance instruction, offering attendees plenty of opportunity to cut loose. The Pickin’ Place provides musicians of all levels and genres to meet old friends and make new ones while singing and playing their favorite tunes together. Other activities include backstage tours and a new interactive display in the MerleFest Museum.
New at MerleFest 2018 is the Blue Ridge Music Trails of North Carolina showcase sponsored by the N.C. Department of Natural and Cultural Resources. Be sure to drop by the Plaza Stage for special sets featuring North Carolina artists including David Holt, Tony Williamson, Laura Boosinger, Presley Barker, plus many others. These special sets are Friday from 3:30-5:30, Saturday from 5:00-7:00, and Sunday from 10:00-11:15.
MerleFest is meant to be a fun, educational experience for children, too. Children are taught about roots music through listening and are given opportunities to play music for themselves through experiences like the Instrument Petting Zoo. The festival also supports youth who already play music by providing them with performance opportunities in the Acoustic Kids Showcases hosted by musician Andy Mayand held on Friday and Saturday of MerleFest.
During the festival, the Little Pickers Stage offers great performances geared towards entertaining kids and their families. The Little Pickers Family Area is enhanced with crafts, face-painting, games, storytelling, a large grassy play area, and the opportunity to take pictures with MerleFest’s official mascot, Flattop the raccoon. Because of the emphasis on family, many children have grown up among the MerleFest stages, later becoming performers themselves and returning with their own kids back to participate in this legendary weekend of music.
Beginners and yogis alike are welcome to start their day with a little Downward Facing Dog; a yoga class will be offered on Friday at 9:30 a.m. on the Dance Stage. The Nature Walks of the gardens and forest on the WCC campus are offered on Friday, Saturday and Sunday of the festival.
“For those wanting an affordable weekend getaway, MerleFest provides a true value to its customers,” said festival director Ted Hagaman. “The admission prices are extremely reasonable – especially considering that we feature over 120 acts on 13 stages. Also, there are no hidden charges. We provide free parking, a free shuttle that will deliver you to the entrance, a free program guide, and all children 12 and under are admitted free with a paid adult. In addition, our Little Pickers Family Area offers each child the opportunity to make crafts and participate in several interactive exhibits – all free of charge.”
MerleFest 2018 is presented by Window World. MerleFest is grateful to over 100 sponsors and advertisers for their support in making the event possible, including Pepsi, WXII 12, Krispy Kreme, YES! Weekly, Carolina West Wireless, Wake Forest Baptist Health Wilkes Medical Center, The Birthplace of Country Music, WTQR Q104.1 New Country, The Law Offices of Timothy D. Welborn, WSMW 98.7 Simon, G&B Energy, Lowes Foods, WAME Real Country 92.9 FM / 550 AM, Winston-Salem Journal, WOXL 98.1 The River, Tyson, Explore Boone, WBRF Classic Country 98.1, Knee-Deep in Bluegrass, WPAQ 740 AM, Burger King, Vannoy Construction, WNCW 88.7, RaysWeather.com, WFNZ 610 AM and 102.5 FM The Fan, WLNK 107.9 The Link, and Curtis Media Group. A complete listing of all MerleFest sponsors and additional information about all aspects of the festival can be found athttp://merlefest.org/sponsors/.

Match Report: Footy McFootface vs Brudenell Groove F.C.
The beautiful game is loved for its unique ability to throw up a romantic result at the most unlikely of times, with the underdogs of this world looking to FA Cup minnows and Europa League also-rans for inspiration when taking on their own personal Everests. With memories of Ben Watson’s header slaying City in 2013, the elation of Greece in 2004 and that famous night in Istanbul where Djimi Traore sneaked away with Maldini’s winner’s medal, league freshers Brudenell Groove stepped up against table toppers Footy McFootface with hope in their hearts and steely determination in their eyes, and after a hard fought game with plenty of action, proudly added their name to that famous list of footballing Davids that couldn’t quite defeat Goliath.
Still celebrating last week’s historic draw, and with We Are Kaka’s vexed midfielder still resolutely refusing to leave his car, team BG started strongly. Clearly a team with class throughout the squad, Footy McFootface dominated possession, but found a disciplined set of Groovers hard to break down, and it wasn’t long before a lightning speed counter attack saw an in form Birdy smash in after being released by a typically twisty Kemp flick. Going off script like PGinho at an end of year awards ceremony, Groove gave as good as they got, trading goals evenly with their surprised opponents as Birdy notched four girls before the halftime oranges had been sliced.
Footy McFootface had their own star to look to, however, exploiting any opportunity they could to get the ball to a big lad up front with a killer touch, a sniper’s shot and an absolute world-class moan. Typically tenacious work from the fire-bellied McLaughlin, sub-zero Tidmarsh and PGinho’s comrade from the streets of Brazil, Dave, could only stem the flow for so long, and at half time the pundits had their “we told you so” lines prepared as Groove went in 7-5 down.
You could see that legs were a little heavier as the second half got underway, but with Amis showing De Gea like distribution and the ever solid Tidmarsh instilling the “pass and groove” philosophy that the team is built around, BG still looked dangerous on the break. Footy McFootface continued the barrage, but despite a few quality finishes they couldn’t quite put the gritty Groovers to bed, a defensive mixup handing McLaughlin a chance which was seen off as ruthlessly as the last half gram at a Back To Basics after party.
As the frantic play continued, an opportunistic strike from the irrepressible Dave added to a timeless PGinho drive, a daisy cutter that will surely go down with Gordon, Charlie and Derren as one of the greatest Browns of our time, and offered resurgent hope as BG attempted to regain a foothold in the game. Scoring so many goals against such a well organised Footy McFootface backline was, some would say, a triumph in itself, though their own 12 strikes would put a more tangible victory just out of BGFC’s reach.
Refusing to let their heads go down, Groove went into the last ten with goals on the mind, and after good work from Dave, Kemp spun away from the last defender and sped down the left channel. About to pull the trigger, his legs were swiped from beneath him, his head bouncing off the turf with a thud loud enough to wake the now severely malnourished We Are Kaka wobbler from his week-long in-car slumber. Stepping up in a daze and with little idea of his surroundings, Kemp stumbled over to the penalty spot, responding instinctively to a disembodied call of “Andy, you take it mate” from somewhere in the star-spangled ether. Head spinning, he swung a boot and struck it firmly into the top corner of the goal, watching in hazy-eyed awe as all three of the goalkeepers made glorious saves in tandem, throwing themselves to their left like synchronized divers at a head-injury induced olympics.
The final few minutes, and indeed for Kemp the rest of the night, passed in a beautiful blur, with Dave poking home again before the referee blew time on a hard-earned 12-9 victory for Footy McFootface. League champions, they walked off to collect their deserved medals, but true to form the Groove warriors walked off into the cold night with smiles of their own, knowing full well that the real victor was - yes, you guessed it - football itself.

You like that? Ten takeaways from Eagles 30, Redskins 17
Though far from perfect and somewhat Pyrrhic, it’s hard to find much to complain about when you open the season with a 30 to 17 road win over a division rival.
The Eagles beat Washington for the first time since 2014, almost three years to the day that Taylor Swift’s “Shake it Off” climbed to the top of the Billboard 100 charts. Five losses and 36 months later, Doug Pederson is getting a sideline Gatorade bath while Taylor drops some really weird shit.
Ironically, it was a questionable call that sealed the deal for the Birds, when Brandon Graham’s fourth quarter strip of Kirk Cousins was allowed to stand despite what I thought looked pretty damn close to a throwing motion. Cousins turned the ball over three times as the Skins’ offense generated just 264 yards at home.
Ten observations:
1. Establishing momentum, then killing it
I loved the first play deep look for Torrey Smith, followed by a couple of confidence-boosting catches for Nelson Agholor. You saw a lot of that in the Week 1 college and NFL games, with coaches trying to establish rhythm and timing for their quarterbacks and receivers.
After the 58 yard touchdown pass to Agholor, Pederson then made one of his worst calls of the game with that motion/flat pass/bubble screen combination. Theoretically, I understand that you want to keep that momentum going and get the ball in Agholor’s hands again, but it ended up becoming a horrendous turnover after a really poor pass from Carson Wentz.
Also, take a look at Smith’s Odubel Herrera-esque effort in recovering the loose ball:
Not the time to get cute, that's on Doug http://pic.twitter.com/WfJ5e0O6SB
— The Bitter Birds (@AdrianFedkiw) September 10, 2017
For what it’s worth, this is what Pederson said post-game when asked about that play:
“It’s a run, and based on what the defense does, (Wentz) has the ability to throw it. Not talking about where he throws, but what Nelson (Agholor) does with the ball when he gets it.”
Whatever that meant.
In hindsight, Wentz does deserve a lot of blame for that sequence.
2. More blunt than Blount
LeGarrette Blount finished with 14 carries for 46 yards, averaging 3.3 per touch, with his longest run going seven yards.
His biggest contribution was actually in the passing game, with a one-yard touchdown catch to start the second quarter. It was the second TD reception of his ENTIRE career, coming off the heels of a 2016 season where he finished with just seven total catches.
By my count, he only ran for one first down in this game. He was used three other times in short-yardage situations, the most prominent of which was the second scoring series, on the first play inside the red zone from two yards out. The Eagles also opened the second half by running him out of the shotgun for whatever reason, and there was another situation later in the third quarter when the line opened up a huge hole that he couldn’t get through fast enough, turning a 10+ yard gain into a five yard gain.
One of the things I did like about Blount’s usage was that off-tackle/bunch formation look, which essentially gave him a couple of lead blockers without needing a fullback to run between the tackles.
This was the setup used twice in the game, where that cluster of blockers would immediately engage two linebackers and a corner at the second level of attack:
3. 60/40 is what you’re going to get
The Birds threw it 39 times and ran it 24 times for a 62% to 38% pass/run split.
That’s in a ballgame where they controlled the clock for 34:16, compared to Washington’s 25:44.
You might have been clamoring for Pederson to run it more based on that skew, but context doesn’t really seem to matter much in that department. 60/40 is pretty much what you’re going to get, even in a road game where you earn four takeaways and run more total plays (65) than the opponent (61).
It’s in Doug’s DNA, just like it was in Andy Reid’s DNA. For what it’s worth, Andy threw it 35 times and ran it 27 times in the Chiefs’ big win over the Pats on Thursday night.
Only twice last season did Doug Pederson run the ball more than he threw it. The first instance was the 24-19 Week 16 home win that kept the Giants out of the playoffs. Pederson ran it 30 times and threw it 25 times in that game. The second instance was the Falcons win, which featured 38 runs and 36 passes.
Every other game was pass-heavy:
Week 17: win against Dallas backups – 43 pass, 30 rush (61/39 split)
Week 15: Ravens loss – 42 pass, 38 rush (53/47 split)
Week 14: Skins loss – 46 pass, 26 rush (64/36 split)
Week 13: Bengals loss – 60 pass, 19 rush (76/24 split)
Week 12: Packers loss – 36 pass, 18 rush (67/33 split)
Week 11: Seahawks loss – 45 pass, 26 rush (63/37 split)
Week 9: Giants loss – 47 pass, 25 rush (65/35 split)
Week 8: Cowboys overtime loss – 44 pass, 24 rush (65/35 split)
Week 7: Vikings win – 28 pass, 26 rush (52/48 split)
Week 6: Skins loss – 22 pass, 21 rush (51/49 split)
Week 5: Lions loss – 33 pass, 21 rush (61/39 split)
Week 3: Steelers win – 31 pass, 30 rush (51/49 split)
Week 2: Bears win – 34 pass, 32 rush (52/48 split)
Week 1: Browns win – 37 pass, 34 rush (52/48 split)
It’s almost like you can feel him trying to be balanced early in the season.
4. How the new guys make the returning guys better
By halftime, Alshon Jeffery and Torrey Smith were targeted four times combined for one catch and 14 total yards.
Agholor had four grabs for 83 yards and a touchdown on six total targets.
Go figure, right?
The flip side of the slow start for Wentz’s new weapons was that it opened up the field for Agholor and Zach Ertz, who really took advantage of having Jeffery and Smith drawing attention elsewhere. The positive is that Jeffery did finish with seven targets, while Smith would have easily crested 75 yards if Wentz had hit him in stride over-the-top on two occasions where he got by Josh Norman.
The final stats:
I thought Zach Ertz had an underrated performance. He snagged all eight passes that were thrown in his direction.
According to Pro Football Focus, the Eagles lined him up 15 times at tight end, 14 times in the slot, and 10 times as a wide out. That’s excellent versatility for a guy who should be entering the prime of his career.
Joe Giglio over at 94 WIP dropped a great Ertz statistic.
First 62 career games:
Zach Ertz: 255 catches, 2,933 yards
Tony Gonzalez: 256 catches, 2,955 yards
Jason Witten: 248 catches, 2,776 yards
— Joe Giglio (@JoeGiglioSports) September 10, 2017
5. Winning despite…
In this game the Eagles…
missed an extra point
turned it over twice
whiffed on the easiest sack of all-time
suffered injuries to their best cornerback, their left tackle, and kicker
…and still won against a division rival on the road.
For Philly fans, the overcoming of that sort of misfortune is a rarity.
6. I don’t need to see replays of a guy dislocating his ankle
We knew it was bad when we first saw Ronald Darby go down on that shitty field.
I don’t need to see it ten times in a row.
The Eagles only dressed three corners for this game, but Jaylen Watkins (CB/S hybrid) and Patrick Robinson did a really nice job of stepping up when Darby went out injured. We’ll get an update on his injury status on Monday.
7. A lack of control in the hand
This was the play that sealed the game for the Birds:
Fletchhhhhhhh (Pt. 2)
BG with the forced fumble, Fletcher does the rest. #FlyEaglesFly http://pic.twitter.com/a9k4cfc5vF
— Philadelphia Eagles (@Eagles) September 10, 2017
Anyway, is the arm coming forward? Is the ball already out before contact is made? It’s really hard to tell, but I thought for sure they would overrule the call on the field (fumble and touchdown).
According to the Washington Post, this was the explanation the officials gave:
“Referee Brad Allen said he called a fumble because of “lack of control in the hand.” He said he saw an empty hand as Cousins’s arm went forward, and there was not enough evidence to overturn the call following video review.”
Makes sense to me.
Kirk Cousins said this after the game –
“I don’t have a whole lot to say just because I haven’t seen it yet – except for on the Jumbotron. We’d like to think that we had a chance there to get the ball back, but I always expect when the play is allowed to be reviewed and they can go over it again that they’re going to make the right call and you saw their decision. Tough one, but there are so many other plays in the game that lead to that moment that I really think are more important and more telling of why it didn’t go our way at the end.”
That last part is the real story here. The three turnovers prior to that really killed the Skins, especially that red zone interception when Cousins had eight guys gunning for him.
He was under pressure on 19-of-47 drop backs and sacked four times.
8. Doug’s worst call?
There are a few candidates. The Agholor run/pass/bubble screen/whatever was one of them. There was another bubble type of play where Wentz threw another flat pass behind the line of scrimmage on a third and ten.
Pederson also burned a timeout just before the two-minute warning, only to kick a field goal anyway (which was probably the right call ultimately).
It’s easy to rip Doug (and then pile on), but let’s at least give the guy some credit for coaching his team to a 13-point road win over a division rival. It’s a big victory on the heels of a loser ex-GM criticizing you for no apparent reason, followed by a speculative story about how the defensive coordinator wants to be the head coach.
Doug Pederson just got a Gatorade bath. Wonder if that was a message.
— Mike Garafolo (@MikeGarafolo) September 10, 2017
9. Doug’s best call?
I liked the Blount touchdown pass, which had a busy shift going on before the snap, then continued with a target for the least likely candidate on the field:
Carson Wentz finds LeGarrette Blount for the short TD, Eagles lead 14-0.
Carson Wentz today: 8/10, 102 yards, 2 TDs. http://pic.twitter.com/NsayBobnoU
— NFL Update (@MySportsUpdate) September 10, 2017
I also thought his best decisions weren’t necessarily play calls, but the confidence he showed in Caleb Sturgis and the defense to get the job done in a couple of different scenarios.
10 . Most awkward moment of game…
Was it the goofy Mike Pereira and Dean Blandino cut-in?
Or was it Terry Bradshaw doing the FOX robot voice?
Pereira and Blandino in the most awkward family photo ever. http://pic.twitter.com/dtSFe8ia9z
— Dan Levy (@DanLevyThinks) September 10, 2017
“It’s a little bit of a different look for me. I’m used to being in the command center in New York, but this is just as exciting and just as fun.”
Thanks, Dean.

Shell divests Gabon onshore assets for $587 mn
THE HAGUE, NETHERLANDS: Royal Dutch Shell plc (Shell), through its affiliates, has reached an agreement with Assala Energy Holdings Ltd a portfolio company of The Carlyle Group (CG), to sell 100 percent of its Gabon onshore interests for $587 million.
Gabon, a country along the Atlantic coast of Central Africa. The sale & purchase agreement (SPA) expected to close in mid-2017.
The purchaser will also assume a debt of $285 million as part of the transaction. The purchaser will make additional payments up to a maximum of $150 million depending on production performance and commodity prices. The transaction will result in an impairment charge of $53 million post tax which will be taken in Q1 2017.
This transaction consists of all of Shell’s onshore oil and gas operations and related infrastructure in Gabon: five operated fields (Rabi, Toucan/Robin, Gamba/Ivinga, Koula/Damier, and Bende/M’Bassou/Totou), participation interest in four non-operated fields (Atora, Avocette/M’Boukou, Coucal, and Tsiengui West). As well as the associated infrastructure of the onshore pipeline system from Rabi to Gamba and the Gamba Southern export terminal.
As a result of the sale, some 430 local Shell employees will become part of Assala Energy at completion.
Assala will acquire these assets with equity from two Carlyle funds: Carlyle International Energy Partners (CIEP) and Carlyle Sub-Sahara Africa Partners (SSA).
Shell onshore in Gabon produced approximately forty-one thousand barrels of oil equivalent per day in 2016 and Shell Trading (STASCO) will continue to have lifting rights from the assets for the coming 5 years.
“Shell is very proud of the strong legacy we have built in Gabon over the past 55 years. The decision to divest was not taken lightly, but it is consistent with Shell’s strategy to concentrate our Upstream footprint where we can be most competitive. Shell will continue to pursue opportunities in Sub-Saharan Africa,” said Andy Brown, Shell’s upstream director.
“Together with recent divestments in the UK, Gulf of Mexico and Canada, this transaction shows the clear momentum behind Shell’s $30bn divestment programme, and it helps us to high-grade and simplifies our upstream portfolio following the acquisition of BG,” added Brown.
