nishinoya yuu loves his teammates.
he adores shouyou, yamaguchi, and kageyama. (tsukishima is only slowly growing on him.) point is, he loves his junior teammates dearly, and would gladly win and lose every tournament if it means just being with them.
but right now? it almost doesn’t feel that way.
you shift nervously, hoping hinata wouldn’t turn around and see the almost poisonous glare nishinoya is drilling on the back of his head. you can see the smoke coming from his ears.
“um.” you feel sweat trickle down the side of your face on hinata’s behalf. “hinata-kun…”
“huh?” says hinata, so painfully oblivious. he tilts his head, asking, “is that a no? it’s okay if you don’t know how to, i can teach you!”
someone gasps from the sidelines.
an unreadable look passes over nishinoya’s face. you almost laugh at how much he’s resembling a disgruntled kitten.
“i know how to, hinata-kun, it’s just that—”
“shouyou,” says nishinoya sternly, a shadow cast across his face, “please stop flirting with the love of my life.”
hinata’s face drains of color so fast you almost reach out in case he faints right then and there. “nishinoya-senpai!” he cries, horrified, “is it against the—the bro… bro… conduct…? contract?”
“the bro code,” yamaguchi helpfully supplies.
“the bro code!” hinata continues. “is it against the bro code to teach someone’s significant other volleyball?”
“it is very intimate,” tanaka agrees, nodding. “i wouldn’t cross that line even on those damn city boys!”
“since when was there a bro code?” sugawara wonders.
“what’s a bro code?” kageyama looks lost, and a little miffed he’s missing out on what seems to be another rule about volleyball he doesn’t know.
“because!” nishinoya yells, catching the attention of just about everyone in the court. “because i don’t want any of you wooing y/n-chan! only i get to look cool in front of y/n, okay? not even you, shouyou.”
hinata nods, taking his mistake seriously.
“yuu,” you laugh, exasperated and hopelessly fond, “there’s no need for all that. only you look the coolest in my eyes.”
nishinoya freezes, jaw hanging wide open. it is impossible, realistically, but everyone watches in awe as an arrow in the shape of a heart strikes him right on his chest.
“y-y/n…” he sobs, sprinting over to you until you’re tackled. but you’re too used to his antics so you just hold him up awkwardly, unfazed. “i love you! would you really let me teach you volleyball?”
this seems extremely important for nishinoya, so you play along and pretend to consider it. “hmm, i don’t know,” you muse, and nishinoya holds his breath. “are you a good teacher?”
“he is!” tanaka agrees immediately, the number one wingman.
“nishinoya-senpai is the best teacher!” and hinata means it, too. “you’re so lucky, y/n-san!”
“i’m touched to have this honor, then,” you laugh.
“i love you guys! i’m treating you ice cream tomorrow!” nishinoya continues sobbing and preening from the praise. he turns to you, pointing with a finger. “i’m not going to make you regret choosing me!”
you find it sweet that nishinoya is more than happy to let you in on his favorite sport. he seems overjoyed of the thought of you and volleyball combined. “of course, yuu. i’m looking forward to it.”

Cosmic's Malleyuu Whump vs Flufftober: Day 7
ONLY FOR EMERGENCIES unconventional weapon | magic with a cost / Hoodie Weather
Tumblr media
Yuu felt like screaming, but they didn't want to waste their breath.
The inky black monsters that were overrunning the island were relentless. They slid along the rocky terrain with startling speed, resembling more vicious ocean waves than the malicious creeping spirits that possessed them.
With this many, it was difficult to tell them each apart. That made it twice as difficult to dodge their attacks, and strike back at them.
Yuu had never felt more useless or pathetic in this one fight, which was impressive, because this basically happened every fight. Still, there was absolutely no way to fight the monsters through any non-magical means.
A pang of longing went through them. They wished their friends were around. At least it wouldn't have been so bad, if they were all suffering together.
But they were gone. Their friend group had been together when the monsters had struck, and, all of them being lower-level mages, had been unable to effectively counter the sheer number of blot monsters.
Now, Yuu just had Grim, and for once, he wasn't fighting them on who was the real dorm head of Ramshackle.
Speaking of Grim, Yuu was clutching him as they ran to higher ground. They'd tried the roof of Ramshackle, but when it threatened to collapse under the relentless attacks of the monsters, they fled.
Grim was beating back the monsters that got too close as Yuu scrambled up a tall tree. They frantically pulled their phone out of their pocket, hiding themselves in their hoodie to try and heat up a bit.
The air was chilly, and it suited Yuu's resentful mood. As they opened up the groupchat to get an update, they saw everyone's preparations.
Because of the warning that their group had been able to provide, the other dorms had been able to get prepared. A number of them had promised help, but none had arrived before most of their group had been struck down.
Yuu had to admit, they were dealing with a bit of a complex here at Night Raven. It was hard to be so lackluster all the time, and they often felt like they got overlooked whenever something dangerous was happening.
At the same time, it was hard to ask for help. Everyone always gave them a hard time over it, chuckling patronizingly and reminding them, for all their bluster, they were just a "normal human".
Yuu felt like they were being set up to fail, but by who?
"Hey," said Grim, tugging on their sleeve. "Look."
Yuu followed his outstretched paw to see the inky blot monsters down below. To their surprise, they saw the blot monsters struggling against the tree's bark, looking like they were trying to climb up only to slide down.
"Huh," huffed Yuu "The angle's too sharp for them."
The two of them smiled at each other and starting laughing, feeling they'd finally gotten their first big break of the night.
Which is, of course, when something went wrong.
The blot monsters hadn't been able to climb very well, but they had knocked themselves hard enough into the trunk that it had caused the thin branch Grim was on to fail.
"Grim!" Yuu dove as fast as they could to grab him, and while they were able to snatch him out of the air, they also managed to punch his wand out of his grip.
It fell into the writhing mass of ink below, and quickly fell out of Yuu's vision.
The blot monsters were too smart for Yuu, because, upon recognizing their newly-found success, rammed themselves into the tree again.
Yuu grabbed onto the tree, trying to find their balance in the slippery bark.
"What are we gonna do?" yowled Grim.
Yuu knew one thing they could do.
When they'd presented the idea to Malleus, he'd immediately been hostile.
"No, Yuu," he said. "That is not a solution. Your idea is going to get you, as well as a number of others, killed."
"Well, what are your suggestions!?" Yuu had exclaimed. "You're so negative- any idea of mine, you attack!"
"Call me," he'd replied, taking their hands into his, emerald eyes boring into theirs. "No matter what. I'll always hear you."
But Yuu had called and called, and had made a fool out of themselves as their friends fell, one by one, while Malleus was nowhere to be seen.
Yuu didn't know what had really happened to their friends. They didn't know if they were even still recoverable at this point. But Yuu knew that they'd sacrificed themselves for Yuu, and now it was time to make their own sacrifice.
Without letting themselves think about it for another moment, Yuu shrugged off their backpack and scrambled for the little package at the bottom.
They ripped it open and popped it in their mouth, the inky flavor exploding in their mouth, Yuu struggled not to spit it out.
"Yuu!" exclaimed Grim, and they realized they didn't even know if overblotting would work on a magicless human.
They looked up, and as the drops of black ink overtook their vision, they thought they saw a figure standing in the distance, a few paces behind the last blot monsters.
The last thing they saw was Malleus, mouthing "Yuu," before it all went black.

NRC! Yuu AU
Tumblr media
Hehehe I've been thinking about this lil bastard for a while :^)
I wanted to toy with the idea of an AU in which Yuu was born in Twisted Wonderland and how he would affect the story if he was part of the main cast, so I came up with this fella. Rn the 4th long hair option is winning in the poll so I chose it for this design, but it'll change accordingly depending on which option wins. Not much from his appearance changes aside from giving him pinker eyes!
Student Info:
Grade/Class: Junior/Class E (No. 7)
Age: 18
Height: 179 cm (6 cm taller than his human counterpart)
Dominant hand: Ambidextrous
Homeland: Akabayashi village (赤林)
Club: Pop Music Club
Best Subject: Astrology
Hobbies: Poetry, Horror Stories
Pet Peeves: Responsibility
Favorite Food: All seafood
Least Favorite Food: Nattō
Talent: Strategy
Unique Magic: Liar's Dance
ライアースダンス (本音の仮面)- (True Intention's Mask)
Yuu can transform into a person of choice at the cost of an accelerated blot production. So far he's able to maintain a stable transformation for about 72 minutes.
His transformations are almost perfect, but he still cannot fully mimic people's eyes. Azul so far is the only one that can see through Yuu's UM.
Crowley never actually visited MC in Ramshackle for Ch3— it was Yuu using his unique magic.
Yuu has to syphon some of his magic towards the glamour charms, but he can change the strength of the glamour spells if he needs to use more magic. He numbers each level as a dance.
1st Dance: Ears + 1 Tail are revealed - all subsequent dances add a tail. The 7th and final dance adds markings to his skin resembling kumadori makeup.
Tumblr media
Kitsune Lore:
Yuu is still the heir of his family, but backstories have been changed slightly and now he's much more willing on his role.
Floyd calls him "cuttlefishie" (イカちゃん/ika-chan) due to his many tails and his preference for seafood.
Kitsune only gain longevity after they gain their 9th tail. Before that, they age like a regular human.
Kitsune have 2 forms they can freely change into; their beastman and animal form. Culturally, kitsune are very overzealous about showing their natural ears and tails to other people in their beastman forms, so they use charms to maintain a glamour spell to make them look more human. Seeing a kitsune without glamours is only reserved to family, close friends or lovers.
A kitsune's animal form is like a 'hybernation' form for kitsune. They use this form to recharge after excerting a lot of their magic.
Kitsune used to be considered monsters until about half a millenia ago, so Yuu is extremely happy Grim got into NRC. He mistakenly thinks Grim is just a very very young Nekomata that has no control over his transformations yet.
Changes to Book 3-Onwards:
Yuu is Octavinelle's housewarden and is one of the very few students to have never entered a contract with Azul.
Azul challenged Yuu during the second half of his freshman year and lost. Yuu, though, saw his potential and appointed him vice-housewarden.
Has had a crush on Azul since the start of this schoolyear. Unlike Human! Yuu, he actually tries flirting from time to time. But due to Azul's low self-esteem, he thinks Yuu is actually making fun of him. Floyd and Jade are very aware of Yuu's crush, though.
As seen above, Yuu is actually the one who asks MC for help freeing the Anemones. Crowley is probably pro Azul since his deals actually increase the school's GPA let's be real.
Yuu helps the MC by using his UM to sneak into Atlantica's museum while the others distract the guards + tweels.
In a last ditch effort to appease Azul after Leona destroys the contracts, Yuu strikes a deal in which he gives his position as housewarden and UM. It all falls apart when the tweels eventually betray Azul and he overblots.
Confesses during the overblot battle like an idiot. Azul again thinks he's making fun of him (rip).
Yuu helps out in Book 4 by transforming into Kalim to figure out Jamil's plan.
Him and Azul officially start dating somewhere around ch 5.

. . . loading : real-life otome simulator ☆
❤︎ summary : It seems that the world is preparing for its imminent cessation. Indeed, it's far from common that a peculiar extrovert with a secret passion for otome novels on the one hand and an eccentric shut-in, a professional in all game genres, except for socialization simulators, on the other, will collide in the same room. A new otome novel that breaks the top games of the year, the two, who bet on an all-clear 100% true romantic ending walkthrough on the first try, and Ortho, who quite unobtrusively suggested them to team up. ❤︎ tags : female reader, reader is yuu, extrovert reader, second-year reader, sfw, fluff, chapter 6 spoilers
❤︎ author's note : see the end of the post for more! english isn't my first language, please make sure to point out mistakes if any! :) you can read this work on ao3 ^^!
Tumblr media
. . . loading prologue : 20% (in which she let her inner otome novels addict rise from the ashes)
Yuu was such an interesting person to get to know with. She possessed quite a character within her, which somewhat suited to this overall college’s dynamic.
Was it her circumspection in the first instance when Riddle realized that hanging out with such an outstanding student turned out to be quite a pleasant pastime? In any case, she was a constant guest at unbirthday parties, infecting everyone with her good-natured laughter and striking Heartslabyul students with interesting stories from her world.
Was it her obstinacy when it came to Leona? Oh Sevens, was it that necessary for her to be so sly and so impermissibly entertaining to have around? Nor to mention her lap was just as comfortable for Leona to spend hours on them, sleeping as if he hadn’t had such sweet dreams ever in his lifetime.
Was it her erudition which Azul was ready to praise (even if not voicing it outloud)? He wondered if she knew everything he was spending time on thinking of just right in the moment she entered Mostro Lounge, ready to give an unprecedentedly brilliant advice.
Was it her liveliness Kalim grew to adore so much? It wasn’t hard to befriend him, yet the smile on his face shone brighter every time he saw her on the Scarabia’s threshold, preparing to meet her with a bustling festive parade. And even Jamil looked more relaxed in her presence.
Was it her eagerness, which Vil related to completely, respecting this stunning trait of her and admiring her? Her fashion was on spot, and also she promised Vil he never ever hears a lie from her, and she keeps her word to this day, jokingly noticing how yesterday's lipstick shade suited him better than today’s one.
Was it her intrepidity Malleus wondered about, spending sleepless nights and trying to figure out how their next late night walk will turn? Never had he someone to talk with so freely, without thinking about how he appears before people and what they think of him. She saw him under that fearsome veil, willingly listening to his stories dedicated to gargoyles.
Nevertheless, Yuu never knew how exactly she got befriended with Lilia Vanrouge. It’s not like it was a miracle at any rate, no, not to that extent of something unbelievable. He himself said that Diasomnia guys would love to talk with anyone when they two first met in the cafeteria. There was no one to believe him but Yuu. Lilia, who resembled a bat a bit too much with all mischievous tricks and hanging from the ceiling things of his, and had quite alluring yet suspicious gaze - yeah, that Lilia Vanrouge Yuu befriended.
Was it because she was quite unexpectedly familiar with all of that fan culture she has shown on their concerts with Cater and Kalim? Lilia never hid his interest in her outer world features and it was surprisingly cute figuring out Yuu had idol groups in her world too. To think she even stanned some!
Or was it because Yuu has shown no fear for Malleus? No words were said and yet she still figured out there was something more than just a lasting friendship stretched between two faes. Not in a romantic way, but rather parental adoration, she would say.
The way Lilia treated even her as if she was his real daughter got Yuu smiling every time. Still, many thoughts were running through her head, and her fellow classmates would catch Yuu pondering something real hard, trying to provide her with a safe return from the realm of deep thinking by not-so-gently snapping the girl on her forehead with their fingers.
Anyway, it’s still nice to actually have him as a best friend here. To be completely honest, Yuu’d never say she had trouble socializing with people. Yuu was the embodiment of the magnet - alluring, attractive, always smiling and cordial, people were drawn to her, as if butterflies striving for the salvatory light, when all she did was being friendly towards people. Sure thing, having magic users as your friends is definitely beneficial, no matter how you look at it.
Maybe being not just the only girl here in all-boys school, but even magicless in addition, was amusing? But Lilia neither has ever laughed at her nor interrogated, trying to figure out if she has a boyfriend or if she was interested in dating at all, approaching with a sugary smile, full of pretense.
Moreover, Lilia's presence around was surprisingly beneficial to the both of them. Lilia has genuinely enjoyed spending his free time with Yuu, while she has sensed the aura of strong protection. Students, especially that cute first-year ones, who were seeing her for the first time in their lives (she was already a second-year, after all), absolutely magicless yet endearing, were absolutely scared when Lilia’s messy bangs with bright pink strands flashed behind girl’s back when he was quick to reappear right before confused faces. Human beings’s reactions were so funny!
Yuu was craving some silence, and Lilia was just at her service most of the time. She could say he was perfect, but…
“Oya, Yuu, thanks for saving some tarts just for me! How prudently of you!~'' Lilia snitched tarts, gently baked by Trey which she was about to eat during a break, but bat fae appeared out of nowhere, leaning over her face upside down and giving out a sly smile.
“Hey!! It was mine!” Yuu tried to defend her tarts, but all in vain - Lilia already licked his lips and chuckled.
“No worries, I came with a replacement. Here, would you try my cooking? I saw a new recipe yesterday on the MagiCam! Silver is yet about to take a bite though… But it means you’re the very first one to enjoy it!”
“Aha… You know what, I wasn’t that hungry after all. Thank you very much.”
“Aww, what a pity! Next time then!”
Yeah, maybe he wasn’t that perfect after all.
───◌┈┈───♡⃝───┈┈◌─── “Right, Yuu.” Lilia said, watching the girl finish her tea. “Have you seen the new Neige LeBlanche post?”
“The one he took during rehearsals on VDC? I saw his stories where he said he was browsing his gallery and was eager to post our photos with me, Vil and others… If so, then yeah, I already liked it.”
“Fufufu!” Lilia chuckled. “Sometimes I think Neige is your fan, not you’re his. But no, I’m not talking about his cute little post during VDC. I’m implying a commercial one.”
“Eh? I thought all of the commercial posts were posted on official accounts, not his own?”
“It seems so, but I believe he genuinely liked the new project. Anyway, take a look then!”
Yuu reached forward towards Lilia’s phone and MagiCam on it. To her surprise, Neige was dressed in a rather unusual uniform - the dark tones of the clothes contrasted well with his pale skin. Neige is so pretty, she thought, admiring his makeup and outfit choice, dwelling on small details. It seems that he was presenting a character that he’s voicing in a new project.
“... So come to me, my little star.” The screen began to fade as Neige whispered the last sentence. The promotional video ended with Neige saying the game’s actual name.
Nap of a star ★
Despite sounding oddly familiar, Yuu thought something was off. The way Neige whispered alluringly, the invitation, the game’s name… Isn’t it strange for Neige to participate in such an event?
“Even I'm kinda surprised.” Lilia immediately got into the comments section to find out the opinion of the public about the announcement of a new game. “It’s not typical for Neige to advertise games, I believe.”
Yuu paused meaningfully and sank into thought. A short teaser of Neige and his rendered anime version looked more like a character announcement for a novel. Plus, that catchy phrase…
“Oh, the game is out in two weeks. Let's take a look at the official website.” Lilia put the phone back in the center of the table, getting her attention. "Huh? Is this an otome game? I wonder if Schoenheit was invited too, fufufu.”
Lilia went through the profile of each character. Yuu’s sharpened gaze lingered on the very last one. The character was immersed in a fog, his features were unclear, yet all that could be seen at the moment was only the character’s long hair.
Given her knowledge of otome games, she immediately realized that the most mysterious character would definitely be one of the most popular among the players respectively. It’s also interesting that he vaguely reminded her of Idia with his long hair and lifeless eyes.
“Oh, Monsieur Curiosity!” Rook appeared right in front of them both out of nowhere, scaring the girl off.
“Oh my god, Rook!” Yuu exclaimed, taking a deep breath before continuing. “Please at least use the door when you’re entering, I didn't even see you coming!”
“My apologies to you! But I actually entered through the door.”
“That… Alright, that’s beside the point. You saw Neige’s new advertisement too, I presume?”
Yuu couldn’t say Rook was as close to her as Lilia was, but after all that happened in S.T.Y.X. and stuff, they obviously were no strangers to each other. Besides, she never judges him for his rather peculiar behavior, no wonder they were talking to each other so willingly.
“Oui, Roi du Neige shines like never before! No matter how great my desire was to notify you earlier, I could not bring myself to do it. The information about his new project was a VIP one for members of a closed fanclub only.”
“Oh, right, it’s unforgettable that you’re his biggest fan. No blaming though, I had someone I stanned before entering Twisted Wonderland, too.”
“I wish you could tell us more regarding this matter if you wish!”
“It’s Neige who stan her now,” Lilia stated, drawing his palm to his mouth in order to hide his smile, which of course never slid off Yuu’s sharp gaze.
“Yeah, alright, but this could wait, let’s listen to you first. We’re talking about Neige, after all.”
“To tell you the truth, Roi du Poison was suggested with voicing one character, but he turned it down, citing the fact that the villainous role wouldn’t reflect his charm properly. To be honest, I was upset. In any case, I think that we will soon be able to get an opinion on this game from Roi de Ta Chambre!”
“Are you talking about Idia?” Lilia seemed to also be rather perplexed for a split second, just like Yuu. “As far as I know, Idia is good with all kinds of games except an otome ones.”
Yuu remembered Idia well. It was hard not to remember him after everything that happened at S.T.Y.X headquarters. Despite his introversion, she felt that they had a few things in common that were worth discussing. She still remembered the subtle tapping of his fingers on the joystick on the day everyone gathered at the Ramshackle dorm and Idia showed off his skills. She admired it and the proficiency of his, but after that, to her disappointment, the opportunity to consult with Idia about some games never presented itself. Alas, this image was the only one that remained in her memory.
Something flicked impatiently in her chest when it came to otome though. Dating simulators were Yuu’s outlet, a break from the real world and just a storehouse of pleasant stories, even if silly sometimes.
"For real?" she asked. “Huhu, you know I have a great hearing.” Actually, the word “great” itself was such a pathetic understatement to what could describe her friend’s hearing in fact. Magnificent, unhuman (unfae even, maybe beyond?..) - yes, truly. “It happened that I overheard the conversation between Shroud and Ashengrotto.”
“Dude, sometimes it seems that we’re high school girls gossiping over other people’s boyfriends or something… Not that I’m complaining though.”
“Oh my beloved!” Lilia claimed playfully. “It’s called gathering information!”
“Monsieur Curiosity is quite discerning as always.” Rook added to Lilia’s words with a shade of a sly smile on his face.
“Fine, fine. So, what did you gather?”
“As you already know, Ashengrotto is in the same board game club as Shroud. Last year, due to the extreme popularity of one voice actress, Ashengrotto had to put up a stand of the character she voiced in the Mostro Lounge. He decided to consult with Shroud about which of her skins would be more appropriate and appealing to her fans.”
Yuu was listening with quite an interest she has never shown before regarding Idia, which came to amuse Lilia.
“For the first time he heard from Shroud that he did not know something. When it came to games, he always started rambling and giving out an immense amount of facts. Anyway, he said otome games are out of his league. He doesn't want to waste his time on them."
“HE WHAT?!”
“Yuu?!” if it wasn’t Rook’s amazing reflexes he would actually recoil from the table in shock at her sudden jump.
“Ha, what an amateur. Out of his league, my ass! And he calls himself a gamer? Just look at who the real normie is!”
“Hey, language.” Lilia chuckled. “I think we've reached Yuu's hidden core.” He guessed and exhaled. Looks like there was still something he didn't know about her.
“Yes, this is just ridiculous! My pride is hurt!” She continued to exclaim in indignation, not noticing Lilia’s sly smile at all.
“Why don’t you explain it in detail to Idia directly?”
“Excellent thought. Next time I see Ortho, I will tell him that we’ll have a rather interesting conversation with his brother.”
“You are plotting very interesting schemes, Monsieur Curiosity.” Rook leaned over to Lilia’s ear, winking conspiratorially.
Yuu’s desire to prove her point grew more and more.
        ───◌┈┈───♡⃝───┈┈◌───
To her great regret, Ortho sank through the ground. Even though Ortho was included in the first-year student program and now was a full-time second-year student, she still hasn't had concurrent lectures with him. At some point, she even thought about just visiting Ignihyde dorm, but quickly changed her mind. No, she was not that desperate yet.
Yuu happily devoted her free time to exploring the universe of Nap of a star. Character teasers were releasing every day. The art shone with its professionalism, the video effects were mesmerizing, and the voice actors, including Neige, were extremely famous Twisted Wonderland’s individuals. What amazed her the most that even the main character was voiced! Her voice actress’ name seemed vaguely familiar, but she didn't go into too much detail.
One evening, when the tired Grim was peacefully sniffling on the edge of the bed, Yuu was getting ready for bed and as usual looking at the teaser of the mysterious character. No doubt, this was the true route. Sure thing, the other romanceable boys and girls were charming to look at, but she was itching to find out what kind of quirks this long-haired character had in his pocket.
Accidentally scrolling the site to the very end, she saw the system requirements for the game. A noisy breath escaped her chest, almost waking Grim up.
“PC only?! Who the hell is even doing PC limited versions nowadays!” She exclaimed.
This small but extremely important detail burned all her simping-over-2D-boys-and-girls plans to ashes in an instant. Yuu hardly managed to buy a phone with Cater complaining he can’t follow her on MagiCam. Quite a story how she got Azul convinced to let her do some job to accumulate money and finally get a phone. But getting a PC is a new category of her wishful thinking. She doesn't think she’ll be allowed to download a dating simulator on a library computer. Even if an extraterrestrial miracle happens and she’ll really find a way to do it, then there are no guarantees that some random normie will not ruin her entire walkthrough.
Yuu smiled nervously. Passion for otome forced her to turn on the inner Idia in her, and she chuckled at the comparison.
“Maybe it will be possible to play through the emulator ...” she frowned in frustration and put her phone away, climbing under the blanket.
She still had to debate with Idia, but the competitive spirit was swept away...
The next day, she dug into her lunch with a fork, looking absolutely dejectedly.
"Hey, Yuu." Deuce called out to the girl, not at all pleased with her melancholy appearance. "What happened?"
Yuu nervously thought that it would be nice if Lilia was here right now, but she supposed he was busy keeping his Diasomnia family happy at the moment.
“Even the ghosts got scared of her today.” Grim mumbled indistinctly, chewing on a piece of fish.
“Nervous about Trein’s test, aren’t you?” Ace poked her on the shoulder and laughed. But she remained still.
Rook, who appeared in the aisle with Vil, bowed gallantly and approached their table where ADeuce and Yuu were sitting.
“Good afternoon gentlemen and our dear Trickster! Oh, did something happen? My heart hurts excruciatingly at the sight of our friend’s dejected appearance.”
“Good afternoon, Rook-senpai.” Deuce looked away from her drooping gaze and greeted the senior. “Yuu looks… Yeah, you can see it clearly. We can't figure out what's wrong.”
“Hmm… Yuu, my dearest. Could the issue lie within the game we talked about with you and Monsieur Curiosity the other day?”
"ARGH!" she howled, putting her hands to the forehead.
“I guess I’m right.” Rook smiled sadly, placing his hand on her shoulder. “There, there. Maybe we can help?”
“Good afternoon everyone!!”
A familiar, cheerful voice shook the room. Yuu raised her head and saw him.
Ortho, her savior. She managed to forget that she wanted to ask him to give Idia's contacts in order to confront him. Yuu definitely still mentally insisted on explaining her point of view to her senior, but the original idea was quickly replaced by a new one.
Jumping up, she ran up to Ortho. Before even speaking, Yuu impulsively pressed the blue-haired boy to her. Every time she saw him, all the sad thoughts were blown out of her head. Ortho was a ray of light in a dark realm. If she dreamed of having a younger brother, she would like him to be like Ortho.
“Hey, Yuu!!”  she pulled away from Ortho and nodded back at him with a smile.
"Hey. How are you? Are you all right? I haven't seen you in college for a long time."
“Ah, right. My big brother needed me for some time to help with a project assignment. I attended the classes remotely. But now we have more free time!”
"It's great! I’m a little embarrassed, but I have something to share with you…”
Ortho drew his hands to his chest.
"What happened? I will definitely listen to you!!”
"Thanks, I appreciate it! Well, you probably know that one game is coming out the day after tomorrow…”
Her friends saw from the outside that she somehow perked up and calmed down a bit. The only thing is that many questions arose. Somehow it was Ortho out of all the people (or not exactly human beings, but ok…) who actually managed to cheer her up.
After explaining the situation to the boy, Yuu sighed heavily at the end. Ortho, who nodded more willingly as she talked, asked her to wait just a second. After doing something that was outwardly comparable to how the program reads the received data, Ortho snapped his mechanical fingers.
“If you really want to play, then we still have one of the computers in the lobby unoccupied! At Ignihyde, every student has a computer in their room, but the PCs in the lobby are used when teachers are setting up group projects. My big brother and I just finished one! I think he'll let you play as long as you don't disturb the rest of the students too much.”
Theatrically wiping a tear from her cheek, then she hugged Ortho once again and quickly became effusive in her gratitudes.
“Heehe! Great, then the day after tomorrow we'll meet at the entrance after class. I will explain everything to everyone!”
She decided to postpone the debate with Idia until later. In the end, she has to find out as much information about the characters as possible in order to choose her first route to play!

Yuu looked upon Baul; the sharp pointed ears reminding her Malleus’ own and the scales on the side of his face bringing about a curiosity of if they might be rough as normal scales generally were or soft like most skin types typically were. It was surreal looking upon such a fae, after all the two she’d gotten to know had a particularly striking resemblance to humans, aside of course from Malleus’ horns. However, with the sharp and coldness of Bual’s voice Yuu was immediately knocked out of her thoughtful state, visibly jumping as the tone behind his words erased what little ease Yuu may have gained while around Silver and Sebek alike.
Tumblr media
Y-yes?” Yuu stuttered out, her fear coming off as completely valid in her own mind; after all the fae hadn’t exactly been secretive about their distaste for humans and though Silver and Sebek could get away with claiming they were from Night Raven College, a school notorious for bringing in those with exceptional talent in magic, the same could not be said about Yuu. She was nothing more than a completely average human, just like their enemies.
“No, no issues I just…” What could she say? Granted in a normal circumstance she might just voice what she was thinking, her curiosity tending to be forgiven at the school itself, but she really wasn’t sure what she could say here and unlike Lilia this guy seemed to have a short fuse about him. A trait that Yuu herself could confirm Sebek definitely inherited. Pointing to her own face, in effort not to be further seen as rude she finally speaks up, internally hoping she might not get yelled at for what she was about to say. “It’s just you’ve got scales, and granted I’ve only ever met two other fae and a half fae but they don’t really have anything on their face like you. I-uh-I guess I was just, you know, thinking how I really don’t seem to know anything about the people around here and where they might’ve come from.” It fascinated her, without question, but Yuu’s horrible habit of staring and not just talking had managed to get her into trouble more than once; and it seemed that now was just another time to add to that ever growing list.
Tumblr media
"human," the elder fae had spoken coldly with his voice remaining calm for that moment. There was something about the manner in which she was staring that managed to get under his skin. There were not that many around the local area who did anything similar unless they just happened to be one he'd "dealt with" on a fair few occasions beforehand. But this stranger had not once been even briefly seen around the Valley, let alone anything longer...then again there was a fair few newer faces. Perhaps that school had decided to come here for whatever reason they currently thought was good enough. Baul really hoped for it to be quiet.
"is there an issue? Your lack of respect speaks volumes and there has not been a single word said."

-----
Noct stared at the young boy, gunmetal eyes staring back at him. The boy’s black hair stuck up around his temples, much like Noct’s had when he was young. In fact, the boy looked so much like Noct that he thought he was seeing his past self.
***
“Dominus!” you called, looking for your son. Where could he have gone?!
“(Y/n)! He’s over here!” Prompto’s voice called from the front of Hammerhead, and you sighed. Dominus was always following after Prompto and the other two, trying to learn about his father. You walked to the front of the outpost, about to admonish your son when you saw him. Your body felt encased in ice as your eyes caught sight of the same black hair Dominus had inherited. As soon as you appeared in the open, steel-blue eyes turned to you, and your knees grow weak.
“Noct?” you stammered. Your steps were robotic as you approached the man, fingers grazing his cheek. He gave you a tired smile before pulling you into a tight hug.
“Hey, (N/n).”
***
“You’re telling me, we have a son?” Noct’s eyes were wide as they flicked between you and Domnius. You nodded slowly, your hand gripping onto Dominus’s. Noct’s eyes landed on his son, who had been watching him intently since Noct had arrived at the outpost. He couldn’t lie -- the resemblance between him and the boy was striking. A dull pang in his chest made Noct grimace, turning to face you once again. “When did--”
“A few days after you disappeared,” you muttered. Your hand went up to stroke your son’s hair. A frown painted the king’s face and he looked back to Dominus.
“So you’re my dad?” the boy asked suddenly, making both you and Noct jump. “You know, the stories Uncle Prompto tell of you don’t do you justice.”
That made Noct laugh, and a smile found its way to your lips.
“Really, now? Now I’m curious what Prompto has been spreading around while I was gone.”
***
You waited in Hammerhead with Dominus, hoping that Noct and the others would be okay. You remembered the conversation you had had with Ignis just before the four had left. The advisor had told you about a way that Noct could survive this -- and it had filled you with hope. That Dominus would have his father, would be able to get to know him. That you three could be a family.
“Mom, look!” Dominus yelled, and you looked up. A stray tear slipped from your eyes as the sky began to lighten, the sun rising for the first time in a decade. “Dad did it!”
“Yeah, he did, didn’t he?” you chuckled, trying to bury the worry you felt deep within your being. Please be alright, Noct.
“This is what the sun feels like?” Dominus muttered, a wonder-filled expression on his face. A huge smile split his features as he gazed at the star, before his gunmetal eyes turned to you. “It’s warm! Like I’m being covered in a blanket!” You watched Dominus with soft eyes. You had always wondered how he would react to seeing the sun for the first time. He had been born in the darkness, and it had been all he had known his entire life. Until now, that is.
“It is warm,” you giggled. Running a hand through his hair, you smiled. “I remember when your father and I were young, we would play in the sun for hours, and your Grandpa Regis would scold us!”
“I wish I could’ve met him,” Dominus muttered, his eyes meeting the ground.
“He would’ve loved you,” Noct’s voice made you jump, and your head whipped around to see he and the others had finally returned. You ran into Noct with no warning, remembering how he would have stumbled when you two were younger, but now he stood firm. His arms wrapped around you, a smile on his lips.
“You came home,” you cried, quiet. “You came home!”
“Only ten years late, but yeah. I came home.”

PASH! ILLUSTRATION FILE 2017 (January 2017) - Character Designer Kameda & Director Tachikawa - Character Design Notes
Tumblr media
Here’s Director Tachikawa & Character Designer Kameda’s notes on a few Mob Psycho character designs from PASH! ILLUSTRATION FILE 2017 (January 2017). Includes a bunch of interesting info including Reigen’s shoujo manga love interest roots, Ritsu’s hair changes, and Teru’s connection with Neon Genesis Evangelion. Characters covered; Kageyama Shigeo, Reigen Arataka, Dimple, Kageyama Ritsu, Onigawara Tenga, Hanazawa Teruki, Mezato Ichi, Kurata Tome, Tsubomi, Gouda Musashi, Kamuro Shinji, Suzuki Shou.
KAGEYAMA SHIGEO
Tumblr media
Tachikawa; “Deciding how big to make Mob’s irises was something that often caused a bit of trouble. There were plenty of times where I’d look at him on paper, or I’d draw him and think that his irises were an OK size, but then actually looking at him animated they’d be too small and a little scary...”
Kameda; “I’ve become aware that when I draw him, I make his irises not too small, but so that they reach about half-way down the whites of his eyes. I think Mob’s face around volume 9, 10 of the manga is really good!”
Tumblr media
REIGEN ARATAKA
Tumblr media
Kameda; “I paid attention to the way he stands, so that just by looking at his silhouette his character would stand out. In contrast to Mob-kun’s spaced-out standing pose, Reigen exudes confidence. I pay attention to the line his body follows, so that it resembles an S shape. I imagine Marmalade Boy’s Matsuura Yuu-kun, and apply that coolness to Reigen.”
Tumblr media
Tachikawa; “Sakurai-san’s performance as him is also great. There’s a slight shadiness to his voice, so to say…”
Kameda; “It gives Reigen this handsome vibe (laughs).”
DIMPLE
Tumblr media
Kameda; “I wanted his form to sway in the anime, so I drew him like a fireball with his edges spinning clockwise. Actually, the way his edges move differs depending on the episode; in some, it’s an anti-clockwise spin, and in others it’s a movement from both sides that spits off at the top, and so on (laughs). Also, when he possesses the security guard, he has wrinkles under his eyes. Without those lines, he’s too fresh-faced. He’s the sole adult within this work * - I’m also conscious of that.”
Tachikawa; “I’m glad that Ootsuka-san’s cool voice was able to add a liveliness to this work. I wanted there to be some weight when he plays the funnyman.”
KAGEYAMA RITSU
Tumblr media
Tachikawa; “The volume of his hair proves a struggle.”
Kameda; “Actually, when I draw him, I have two ways of doing so. From episodes 1 to 8 I gave his hair a big volume and made the ends pointy, but episode 9 onwards he rounds out a little. When he reconciles with Mob-kun and the darkness in him fades, the spikiness of his hair also decreases (laughs). I kept that a secret. So this amusement park art takes place during a time in which Mob-kun and Ritsu-kun have reconciled.”
Tumblr media
Tachikawa; “So, when you look at Ritsu’s hair, you can see how he’s doing mentally (laughs).”
ONIGAWARA TENGA
Tumblr media
Kameda; “What stands out in his design is the plaster on his left cheek. I proposed his design should have something that identifies Onigawara as some king of the punks. In the manga, he only has the plaster when he first appears, and following that it’s typically gone, but I think the plaster is good in that it gives him this delinquent vibe.”
Tachikawa; “Also, he has eye bags and two lines there.”
Kameda; “Yes. Much like the manga, I gave him those two lines.”
HANAZAWA TERUKI
Tumblr media
Kameda; “When I draw Teru’s hair, I imagine Neon Genesis Evangelion’s Nagisa Kaworu-kun, & I give it that kind of square silhouette. What also stands out in his design is the way that bundle of hair jumps at his parting. Also, when his hair is at 150%, I have the ends of his hair be a little wriggly. Seems like plenty of our staff thought that drawing that ‘bundle of hair’ feeling was difficult.”
Tumblr media
Tachikawa; “There were also people who made the ends of his hair bounce cleanly.”
MEZATO ICHI
Tumblr media
Kameda; “She’s cute.”
Tachikawa; “That’s right. I also love her.”
Kameda; “When I drew her, I did so with the impression that she’s one who’s got her eyes open. She is sharp sighted, after all.”
KURATA TOME
Tumblr media
Kameda; “Tome-san strikes me as a character who pulls a lot of blank faces.”
Tachikawa; “She appears in this amusement park art… and yet she seems bored, doesn’t she.”
Kameda; “She’s at an amusement park, and yet, she’s playing a video game (laughs).”
Tumblr media
TSUBOMI
Tumblr media
Tachikawa; “Tsubomi’s anime design is completely different to how it is in the manga.”
Kameda; “She’s /the/ bishoujo. However, with each character in the Mob Psycho 100 manga they have distinct lines that mark their upper and lower eyelids, so I drew the anime’s Tsubomi while respecting that rule.”
Tumblr media
GOUDA MUSASHI
Tumblr media
Tachikawa; “I feel I really put my all into drawing Gouda.”
Kameda; “He’s got plenty of special aspects to his design such as his faux hawk and centipede eyebrows, but contrary to expectations he’s difficult to draw. I tend to give him droopy eyes…”
KAMURO SHINJI
Tumblr media
Tachikawa; “Onigawara has them too, but I think Kamuro’s eyebags are his special feature.”
Kameda; “I agree.”
Tachikawa; “I suppose those lines under his eyes that go toward his cheeks are also a feature.”
SUZUKI SHOU
Tumblr media
Tachikawa; “Shou distinctly has pupils, so when you compare him to the others characters he looks a little different.”
Kameda; “Definitely! Since he has pupils, he’s the only character who looks like a foreigner.”

Okay here's a fic for it since im very very kind muehehe:
"Yuu...again?" Riddle groaned at the magicless prefect bowing nonstop infront of me him
"PLEASE Riddle i cannot defeat them alone!! not with only Grim on my side"
"Then you are not alone Yuu, plus why am i in my birthday suit and what is Leona doing here in his gala outfit?" Yuu averted their eyes to the opposite direction of Riddle and directly looking Leona and Malleus fighting
"My, you absolutely look possy in that outfit Kingscholar" Malleus grinned at the growls of Leona who's striking him a hostile look
"Haah? same goes for you lizard, why are you in your ceremony robes? going back a year i presume?" He grinned as Malleus just simply smirked his disdain
"Ah Malleus is also here too-- YUU WHAT ARE YOU DOING!?" Riddle shouts at the prefect as the glow of their key staff disappearing within moment of flashing it
"summoning Ruggie?"
"Why!?"
"so Leona wouldn't be lonely" they shrugged as they continue chanting making the staff glow once again
"Hey Herbivore would you knock it off with summoning us out of nowhere, people have their own lives you know" Leona muttered with visible irration
"Leona is right Yuu, according to the rules it is forbidden to summon a student in the middle of their class with business they are not associated with" Riddle was cut off by a bright flash, a figure of a hyena beastman came out from a resemblance of a coffin that students are delivered from the ceremony. Ruggie tumbled out of the coffin, stood up properly and glared at the prefect who clearly has a sorry look on them
"I WAS ABOUT TO FINISH CREWEL'S POTION WHY WOULD YOU URMPHHH!!!" a phial got shoved into Ruggie's mouth before he can finish his words
"no time Ruggie!! Riddle, Leona and Malleus could you also please drink these?" Yuu handed the phials to them as they observe its honey yellow color
"Wait, why is mine a pot?" Leona had both his hand carrying the pot of honey while Malleus chuckles at him
"it's to make you stronger than you are now!! trust me it works, Deuce and Jack uses it for track and field and they have been faster ever since!!" They proudly smile at the product as they handed a spoon to Leona to help him drink the potted honey
"why don't just beat them up with your stick?" Ruggie recommend as he chugs down the phial once more, honey dripping off his chin
"That would be murder, i can't just pass this off as self defense when i already bludgeoned them to death!!" for some reason they have a point, the others looked at each other and sighed well guess theres no helping at this poin--
"OI ARE YOU GUYS DONE BLABBERING TO YOURSELVES?" the beastmens ear flicked with the yell of the said "opponents"
"Oh crap they have the dormleaders with them"
"tch, this is so unfair getting the dormleaders and Ruggie to fight us, but whatever they might look strong right now but you never know if a sheep is under a wolf's clothing." faces of enraged men glare back at them but they don't seem to notice while they eye the prefect
"hell if we even won against them we can get the title of their dormheads or even in fact get the prefect to be our bitch, i could use a bed warmer at night" the delinquents look straight at Yuu while licking his lips, Yuu shudder with disgust filling their nerves
"Hoh.." "Eh.... you dare to..." "HAH!?" their eyes glowed with spite and anger towards the preprators of the uncomfortableness Yuu felt. these cocky bastards think they could get away with the words they have just said? its practically saying they would love their death sentence
"take a good watch prefect, make sure your energy in summoning of us won't be in waste"
a/n: just imagine the enemies as the enemies on show that features magical girls who transforms who waits patiently for the conversation to end so they could throw hands at them
I can just imagine in twst that the summoning key we use to summon cards on the mirror as a summoner/wizard staff we use to summon the boys to beat the opponents asses like:
Leona: where the hell am i and why the hell am i in my halloween pirate costume?
Yuu, pointing their key staff at the enemy: beat his ass for me... pls

Blooming from the Mud Pt. 3 (DGM/Bleach)
He paces back out of the room, sheathe tied over his back. It knocks against his knees every time he takes a step, an annoying but necessary reminder of his current stature. The blade itself he wields, its steel still dripping with Inomata’s blood. The dogs follow behind him, their broken chains dragging along the ground.
The gang members are awake now. They watch him.
“You’re new around here,” one of them says. “Come from the 79th?” There’s still an edge of bravado in his voice, but he’s scared. Kanda can see his pulse beating in his throat.
“No,” says Kanda. He flicks the sword, watches the blood spatter. “I’m new.”
“Thought the shinigami gave you a sword once you joined up,” says another, speaking from the back.
“I wanted this one,” says Kanda. Shinigami, shinigami- what are the shinigami? Angels? If they have wings, he won't be able to restrain himself from trying to kill them.
“Let us go, you stupid shitstain!”
“Yeah! Drop dead, ugly!”
Kanda hears some familiar voices coming from the front of the hideout, and has to restrain himself from actively grinding his teeth. Lavi is going to find out about this and then laugh in his face.
“Don’t touch them,” Kanda says, loud and cold enough to carry.
“Or what?” Another man enters, dragging the kids in behind them. He has a grin on his face, a ‘I hold the cards here’ type of expression that matches the infected scar that curls over his lip.
“Or I kill you,” says Kanda, already bored of him. Allen taught him to play poker with Tyki Mikk's cards. “Wait,” Kanda continues. He could almost smile. “You’ve touched them already, haven’t you?”
Now the sword truly needs a good cleaning before Kanda can feel comfortable sheathing it.
He looks at the silent room.
“Don’t take things beyond your means to keep them,” he says. There will always be more scum. It’s not worth it to soil his blade with their blood.
Renji and Rukia follow him when he leaves along with the dogs.
“I didn’t bring any food for you,” he says, once they’re far enough away.
“Bastard!--”
“Here,” Kanda says. He hands them an emptied wine flask filled with coin. He had found it, or rather he had kicked it and stubbed his toe. It should be enough, he hopes. He doesn’t know how often they need to eat.
Renji grabs at it, then nearly drops it as he tries to compensate for the unanticipated weight.
“Clumsy fool,” says Rukia, absentmindedly watching him. Renji scowls.
“We can’t take this--” he starts, but Rukia cuts him off.
“We have a lot of mouths to feed,” she says, low enough that Kanda pretends not to hear her. He doesn’t want to know. “Our friends need non-rotten food.”
Renji doesn’t argue.
“You’re not staying,” he says to Kanda instead.
“I’m looking for someone,” Kanda says, and feels the weight of those words that have always doomed him. “I can’t rest until I’ve found him.”
Rukia is watching him again, with her dark blue eyes. Like Lenalee, he had thought at first. But she has no Komui, to base her world around. No chain strong enough to anchor her. It will come, Kanda wants to tell her. But maybe it has already come, and broken.
He hates metaphors.
“You should go to the Seireitei,” Rukia tells him. “If your friend is as strong as you, he won’t be able to stay in the outer districts, no matter where he is. There’s not enough food here.”
“Why don’t you go, if there’s not enough food?” Kanda asks. He already knows the answer, though.
Renji and Rukia shake their heads.
“It’s not just us,” Renji says. “We have other friends here, not strong enough to take the Academy test. And the distance between Districts....” He trails off. It’s clear he’s thought about this a lot.
“What is in the Seireitei?” Kanda asks. Why is it better?
“The Seireitei is the center of Soul Society,” says Rukia. She crouches down, tracing circles in the dirt. They’re worse than Allen’s. “The only ones who can live there are the nobles and the shinigami.”
“So why would beansprout go there,” Kanda asks, repeating his question.
Rukia spasms in front of him.
“To become a Shinigami, fool!” She spits out. She’s not very good at explaining things.
“What is a Shinigami,” says Kanda, deciding that as long as he has a direction to go in this line of questioning is actually pointless and he should just get going.
This time it’s Renji who loses control of himself.
“The Shinigami maintain the balance of the world!” He gets out, voice rising. “They hunt the Hollows that come to eat us, and they maintain order and strike down the guilty, and they wield their zanpakutos to unleash the power of their souls! Everyone wants to be a Shinigami!”
He sounds so much like Alma that Kanda has to look away.
So. Not-Akumas are Hollows, probably. And the Shinigami are the Exorcists. The Seireitei is sounding like a better bet for finding Allen by the minute. Kanda’s gone back to the Order for Allen before, which. If he gets fucking promoted again he’s going to make Allen regret burning down that stupid house.
“Which way to the 77th District,” He says instead, and Rukia points.
“Just go north,” she says, softly. “And if you see someone who--” She stops herself. “Nevermind. Good luck, weirdo.”
“My name is Kanda Yuu,” Kanda tells them.
He hates telling people his name.
The dogs follow him, when he leaves.
He meets them in the forest of the 51st District. For the first couple of districts he passed through, he went through the main town area, listened to the shopkeepers, took money from the people who tried to take his sword, paid for the food. Then he realized it would be faster to move through the forests where only the Hollows lived, only stopping for food when he was walking on a carpet of lotus flowers. There is more order the further north he goes, and less muggers to take coin from. It’s easier this way.
The dogs eat fish from the stream and squirrel from the forest. Their coats shine. He broke their skull masks, when he realized they were shadowing him. Sometimes, he regrets that.
Like right now.
There’s more Hollows than expected in this forest. They flock around him, flaring neck ridges and tail feathers and tentacle masses. They’re as weak as level one Akuma, possibly weaker. Kanda could kill thousands of them.
He could kill thousands if he were fully grown. This body is weak and starving and human. He needs to save strength. He throws himself in front of Fishbone instead, and takes a claw across his chest. It burns.
“You are nothing but death and tragedy,” he tells the Hollows. They scream back at him. “You cannot kill me,” he cuts one down. “You will not kill them,” he takes another splash of acid meant for Lizard. “And you will not stop me from my path.” He kills three of them, jumping from one back to another as his reach limits him.
He hears clapping, and whirls.
“What a beautiful speech,” the man says, wiping an invisible tear from his eye. Colorful feathers sprout from his right eyebrow and eyelashes.
The acid one of the Hollows spat has gotten in the claw wound Kanda received earlier.
“What do you want,” Kanda says. He’s been through worse.
“Can it be? You, a lowly, unranked Shinigami, are addressing me, the most gorgeous member of the Eleventh division in such an unrefined manner?”
“I’m not a Shinigami,” says Kanda. He wants to wash the blood out of his hair. It’s grown longer now, down to his mid back. Of course, that mainly means that it tangles in every fucking breeze, but he needs at least one part of himself to not be like it was when he was nine. When he looked nine. Whichever.
“Trying to deceive me with a blatant lie like that makes you look ugly,” the Shinigami says. “You are poaching on my mission and you aren’t even trying to hide your zanpaktou. Academy student, then? Get out of my sight before I kill you for staining my beauty with your presence.”
“That’s not a zanpakuto, that’s my sword,” Kanda says. He’s tired, and grumpy, and bored. And zanpakutos are like parasitic soul manifestations, he thinks. His sword just cuts really well.
Silence from the Shinigami.
“You want to fight or not,” Kanda asks impatiently. “I need to bathe the dogs.”
“Just to clarify,” says the Shinigami. “How did you get that pretty sword?”
“Killed the guy who had it,” Kanda grunts. Fighting this guy would probably be more annoying than fun, anyway. He glances up at the Shinigami and then immediately drops into a crouch, holding blocking the sword thrust that the Shinigami had sent straight towards his head.
“Did the sword guard always resemble a lotus flower?” The Shinigami asks, striking against Kanda’s defenses again and again.
Kanda blinks. Wait, that wasn’t just a persistent hallucination?
“It took a couple of days,” he says, then switches to the offensive, striking out at the Shinigami’s face. It was an easy weak point.
The shinigami shifts and appears behind him, clashing against Kanda’s sword yet again. Kanda really doesn’t have time for this. He’s going to need to head into town for food after all.
“Why do you fight?” The Shinigami asks him, and this is an important question, the type of question that lets Allen get his hooks into people.
“Why not?” All he knows is fighting and dying, and he’s already dead.
The Shinigami jumps backward, throws his head back, and cackles.
“51 is a beautiful number!” He proclaims to the sky, before turning his gaze back towards Kanda. The air crackles green around him, and he slides his hand down his blade. “Now,” he says, smiling so wide his face looks to split. “Prove yourself worthy of your words. Bloom, Fuji Kujaku.”
His sword activates, growing from a katana into a four bladed sickle as he dashes forward, slicing down at Kanda from above.
Kanda isn’t used to needing to prevent attacks from hitting him. It’s strange. He blocks most of the attacks but one of them gets through, gashing him across the face and narrowly missing one of his eyes.
Fuck it. This isn’t the time to fix his swordsmanship.
Kanda pulls his sheath lose from his back, shifting into his favored dual sword style and jumps forward, flipping towards the shinigami. Sheath holds the sickles back sword goes through the gut, rips back as Kanda pulls the sword back. Too weak in this body, the sickles come down over his shoulder and drag down his shoulder all the way to his elbow. His grip is growing slippery with blood.
“You’re not even trying,” says the Shinigami.
His elbow is burning, and Kanda realizes-- both his elbows are burning, his stigmata acting as a brand upon his skin. Well then.
“Unsheathe, Mugen,” Kanda growls, and the words aren’t right but they're close enough. His sword ignites with blue flame and he slashes again at the shinigami, sending a wave of blue flame to burn the same spot where he had gutted him.
A/N: when i put this up on ao3 it will be in actual edited 5k+ chunks, not this whatever type of thing. also for reference: unsheathe is what Kanda says in dgm whenever he activates his Innocence. he doesn’t know his shikai.

Stranger to most, well known to few
Summary: When a magical ritual happened, Allen Walker vanished, replaced by a strange man with red hair who resembled Allen. It was annoying as hell, but Kanda had to rectify the situation. Though, with Kanda’s renowned people skill, convincing a melodramatic scientist-slash-magician might take forever, much to his dismay.
Relationship: Kanda Yuu/Allen Walker, platonic Nea D. Campbell/past!Allen Walker
Note: This is a headcanon I have had for a long time since chapter 220. It feels very possible, at least in my head.
Chapter 1: An Unexpected Outcome
Things always had to turn up bizarre when exorcists and Noahs were involved.
Kanda couldn’t remember the last time he had to run so fast like this.
Maybe he had never had to. After all, Kanda was the type of guy who’d rather cut down all troubles that came his way than avoid them. Akuma, Noah, dead-friend-who-returned-as-a-demon. Even fellow exorcists had been stabbed. To die fighting had always been one way to live in his opinion, and it wouldn’t go away any time soon.
However, right now, a life depended on him. Allen’s life. Kanda didn’t know how the little shit had managed to wrestle the control of his body from the Fourteenth, but he had decided to spend it on going to the old mansion where Nea once lived. Upon his arrival, the Noah were there as the welcome party. The familiarity of his clansmen’s face and the place had evoked the Fourteenth, resulting in a bloody battle both within Allen and out on the open field surrounding the Campbell residence.
Since Kanda had been accompanying the beansprout, he joined in the battle. Half way through, the Noah decided to remove the presence of Allen’s supporter, namely him. A door was opened and he got dragged through by Tyki Mikk. Both ended up at somewhere a good distance from the Campbell mansion.
That got Kanda furious. More so as Tyki openly mocked and challenged him. Unlucky for him, Kanda knew better. So he ignored the provocation and tried to get back to Allen instead of engaging the Noah in combat. He didn’t come back so the beansprout got erased so easily like that.
As expected, Tyki tried to intercept Kanda. He had to trade blows with the bastard a few times while advancing towards his destination. At some point, a great explosion had occurred in the direction of the mansion. A pillar of light pierced the sky together with currents of energy flowing everywhere. Somehow it made Kanda’s blood go cold. It didn’t help that Tyki had a smirk on at that and jumped through a gate, not before throwing one last comment of “You are too late, exorcist.” Whatever the Noah did, ‘pleasant’ was definitely not the word to describe it.
Not wasting a moment, Kanda ran at his fastest speed possible. The closer he got, the denser the energy became. It also put pressure on his body. Sometimes Kanda encountered low-leveled Akuma on his way, forcing him to make quick works of them.
As he traversed, Kanda steeled himself for the worst: Nea’s full revival. The Noah may or may not their returned clansman, seeing as their relationship was complicated as fuck. In case they did, well, the Fourteenth would be well-defended. Adding in Howard Link - who by now Kanda knew aligned with Nea, it certainly would be even harder to kill the man. Nea himself was powerful, too. Outnumbered like that, Kanda would not get out of the ordeal alive. Even so, he would make sure to drag the Fourteenth with him to the afterlife for good this time.
Like that, Kanda’s resolve hardened one last time. Good timing as well, as he finally was back at the scene.
The mansion and its beautiful field were razed thoroughly. In the middle of it was the pillar of light, with its base expanded. A body was inside, barely visible by the blinding light that wrapped around him. That was Allen for sure. The Noah were surrounding the pillar, likely to make a defense line. One of them was fighting with Link.
“So you’re back, Kanda Yuu.” Kanda whipped his head to the speaker. It was Wisely, the fucker who he despised a tad more than his clansmen since the incident with Alma.
“Obviously, eye-brain.” He spat with all contempt he had for the bastard while raising his sword.
“And once again, you’re too late to stop what is in motion. How do you feel, now that you’re going to lose another important person?” That’s it. This fucker had to die, preferably by his Mugen, definitely by his Mugen, after Nea if he was the one who emerged.
“Murder.” was Kanda’s reply as he leapt at Wisely, swinging Mugen down.
“Whoa whoa! I’m not the guy to look for in a physical fight! Kindly take it to Tyki over there, please.” The Noah dodged his attack with ease while gesturing to Tyki.
With Wisely jumping out of his way creating an opening, Kanda switched to dashing to the pillar of light.
“Idiot! You let him through!” Tyki yelled and ran over to stop him. Two more joined in to help.
Things quickly devolved into a mad scramble. The Noah tried to push Kanda back while he was determined to reach Allen. One versus two was sorely pitiful on Kanda’s part as he couldn’t advance an inch. Step by step, he was forced to back away from his goal. One hard strike made him bounce back, softly colliding with another, whose aura told him that was Link.
“I want to call a truce.” Spoke Link. “We work together to get through to Walker.”
“Don’t call his name, traitor.” Kanda growled with venom in his tone. He didn’t know whether the CROW’s face had any changes as he didn’t bother to look, but with his still steady aura, likely it’s not. How professional.
“The Noah will have an advantage over both of us if he falls into their hands. I’d rather the alternative.” Kanda knew right away that the ‘us’ did not refer to him and Link. However, he had to agree that letting the Noah have their way was a big ‘no’.
“Make it worth.” And both of them split. This time, they worked in tandem, making strikes after strikes, slowly creating a path. Not that they were a great match-up, but rather they were skilled enough not to obstruct each other.
It wasn’t terrible like minutes ago, as Kanda was progressing towards Allen. In his opinion though, this was too slow.
“Wisely, can’t you read their minds or something? We need an edge here.” Tyki called.
“Impossible. It’s mostly their muscle memories at work there. Besides, just holding them is enough.”
“Are you blind, eye-brain? They’re advancing!” Tyki was not pleased with the answer.
“Don’t adopt the exorcist’s insult!” Wisely yell indignantly. “The ritual will be done any minute now.”
Of course, the fucker’s words had to come true at that exact moment with an even greater explosion than before, blowing dirt and debris everywhere. Akuma were vanquished in an instant. Kanda, Link and the Noah were swept up into the air like dry leaves.
Twirling mid-air, Kanda positioned himself for a sound landing with a barely audible ‘thud’. The same to Link. The Noah were not out of shape either, except Wisely who was hit in the head by a stray brick and dropped like a ragged doll, much to Kanda’s glee.
However, Kanda didn’t get to be delighted for long. The pillar of light shrank to human shape, then slowly faded away. Whatever ritual it was had been done. Kanda gripped Mugen tighter, readied his stance for the worst outcome. Not just him, everybody was also tense with anticipation. When the face was revealed, though…
Kanda didn’t know what to do.
The young man who emerged was not a Noah, for he had neither of the dark skin and the cross-shaped stigmata on his forehead. Not Allen either, since he had red hair and donned a pair of circle-framed glasses. But no doubt that had Allen been a few years older, the beansprout would have been his mirror image san hair.
“What the hell is this, Wisely?” Tyki seized Wisely’s collar, lifting him up from the ground and started shaking him awake.
“Huh…aah…stop it, Tyki…” the Noah moaned as he raised a hand to cover his head injury. “I’m not…responsible for it.”
Tyki was merciless with his shaking. “At least tell me why a strange guy is there instead of the Fourteenth?”
“I don’t know. Alchemy is not my forte.”
While the Noah bickered among themselves, Kanda had his eyes on the new face. He approached the man with caution since he didn’t know if he was friend or foe.
When he was a few feet from the red-haired man, he stirred. His eyes flew open, sporting brilliant silver. Scanning the view in front of him, he then curled his lips into a half-smile before speaking up for the first time.
“Well well, what do we have here?”
