Rise With The Sun, Set With The Moon
Rating: General
Relationships: He Xuan/Hua Cheng/Xie Lian, Yin Yu
Characters: He Xuan, Hua Cheng, Xie Lian, Yin Yu
Tags: Domestic Fluff, fluff, stone symbolism briefly if you squint
Moon quartet going about their day, just relaxing and enjoying each other's company
this is my fifth prompt for TGCF rarepair G4G!
prompt from CupcakeDoesThings (AO3): Moon Quartet just having a silly domestic morning/day together 😭 I don't really have a ton of preferences, I just want to see more Moon Quartet being silly together 😔
Also on AO3
Full work under the cut
Yin Yu rose with the sun. Despite his title as the “waning moon officer”, he followed the daylight. He pried He Xuan’s arms off, and headed for the kitchen. Hua Cheng had turned paradise manor from a place of residence into a home. The rooms had gone from sparkling clean and sterile to full of trinkets and warmth.
Even though none of them really needed to eat, Yin Yu enjoyed cooking. He needed to focus all his attention on what he was doing, and couldn’t let his mind wander too far.
Xie Lian wandered in. “G’morning.”
“Good morning, Your Highness.” Yin Yu smiled.
“What’re you making?”
“Steamed buns.”
“Oh! Can I help?”
“Please don’t, Your Highness.”
Xie Lian didn’t look too devastated.
“You don’t have to call me that; I haven’t been a prince for years.”
Xie Lian took a seat at the table. He fiddled with the edge of the tablecloth. Silver butterflies embroidered into black silk.
Hua Cheng slipped into the room. “Gege, good morning.”
“Good morning San Lang!” Xie Lian quickly kissed him on the cheek.
The butterflies on the tablecloth fluttered to life. They situated themselves in Xie Lian’s hair, flapping their wings softly. He laughed quietly as Hua Cheng pulled him into his arms.
Yin Yu had finished wrapping the buns, and was putting them into the steamer. He shut the lid on the pot, and set a talisman that would light up in half an incense time.
“Hmfh.” He Xuan buried his face in Yin Yu’s shoulder from behind, hugging his waist.
“Did you sleep well?”
“Mhm.” He Xuan looked up. “What are you making?”
“Steamed buns. Don’t worry, this pot is for us,” Yin Yu pointed to a second one. “That’s for you.”
He Xuan rubbed his eyes, still dazed from waking up not long ago. “M’kay.” He buried his face in the crook of Yin Yu’s neck again.
“A-Xuan, you have to let me go. Unless you want your breakfast to burn?”
“…Fine.” He released his hold. He Xuan moved to sit at the table, across from Hua Cheng.
Xie Lian smiled at the other calamity. Hua Cheng nodded - as close to a smile as He Xuan would receive.
Yin Yu brought four plates to the table. Three with a couple buns, and another stacked high. He Xuan eyed the second plate Yin Yu’s hands. He was like a child looking at his dessert - tempted to grab it and start eating, but afraid he would be scolded for being impatient.
Hua Cheng chuckled when He Xuan began to eat like a tiger with a fresh kill. Xie Lian bit into a bun, the meat’s flavor perfectly complimenting the dough’s texture.
“A-Yu, these are really good!”
“Thank you, Your Highness.” Yin Yu faintly smiled at the compliment.
Xie Lian gave up trying to refuse the honorific. He finished the bun quickly before collecting everyone’s plates. After Xie Lian washed the dishes, the four moved back to their room.
Yin Yu pulled a book off the large shelf, and tossed another towards He Xuan. It was the same book, the two would read separately and then talk about it together. Hua Cheng sat at the end of the bed, and Xie Lian arranged himself behind the red ghost. He Xuan sat down, back against the headboard, and Yin Yu laid his head in his lap.
Xie Lian picked a comb up. “San Lang, how do you want your hair?”
“However gege wishes,” Hua Cheng responded. He winced when Xie Lian hit a particularly nasty knot, but made no noise.
“A simple braid it is.” Xie Lian started to partition Hua Cheng’s hair. While weaving the strands together, he embedded red beads. Each bead was slightly see through and shone with the sunlight. Even if Hua Cheng just tossed them around haphazardly, they were most likely priceless gems; spinel, garnet, zircon. Xie Lian tied his hair off with a red string, forming a little bow. He found it quite cute.
Hua Cheng turned to the two reading once Xie Lian let him move.
“How’s the book going?”
He Xuan looked up, “As good as a romance can get.”
“Mn, I assume it was A-Yu’s pick?”
“Correct.”
Yin Yu lightly swatted He Xuan’s arm. Xie Lian pulled Hua Cheng to lay down, and the four lay in a pile like that for hours. After living for hundreds of years, after going through so much chaos, it was nice to bask in the presence of their loved ones and relax. Meaningless conversations instead of war plans. Only when the sun started to set did they rise.
None of them felt like cooking, not even Yin Yu. Instead, they made their way to the baths. Steam rose from the water, the smell of soap filling the air. He Xuan carefully undid Hua Cheng’s hair, and Yin Yu set the beads aside. They slipped into the water. It didn’t take long for Xie Lian to flick water at He Xuan, who retaliated by sending a small wave back. From there, they were tossing increasingly larger amounts of water at each other, when Hua Cheng and Yin Yu joined in. Laughter mixed with steam in the air.
“San Lang!
“Yes, Ge-” He felt a large bucket of cold water drop from above. “A-HEI!”
“Yes, Hong’er? Something wrong?” He Xuan teased.
Yin Yu and Xie Lian laughed as the ghost kings started to fight. But there was no malice in their kicks, no intent to hurt in the soft punches thrown. Xie Lian got out first, and Yin Yu followed. They threw thin inner robes on after drying off, and headed back to their room to wait for the others.
“A-Yu, can I brush your hair?”
“I don’t see why not.” Yin Yu sat in front of Xie Lian. The brush ran through his hair, and Xie Lian continued even when it was no longer tangled. Yin Yu hummed as it scraped against his scalp, alleviating a pain he didn’t know was there.
The ghost kings stumbled in, still dripping. He Xuan flicked his hand and the water evaporated. Once they were properly dressed, Hua Cheng sent a couple butterflies to retrieve his brush. Once he ran it through his hair, he passed it to He Xuan. He Xuan haphazardly brushed his hair, before tossing it to the side.
“Are you ready to sleep?” Xie Lian asked.
“Mhm.”
“Yep.”
Yin Yu had already situated himself on the far right of the bed. He Xuan crawled in next to him, and pulled him close. Xie Lian and Hua Cheng lay on the left side of the bed, tangled together. Slowly, they drifted off to sleep, another day spent together and infinitely more to come.

When Perfect Cell announced the Cell Games, he threatened to destroy the earth if he won. When Gohan pushed him into a corner, he makes good on his threats, and self destructs in an attempt to kill everyone.
The common view that the Merger was only ever meant to be a threat has missed the point of the criticism. The fight is anticlimactic because Sukuna died with an ace in his hand. Starting the Merger early was a way for Sukuna to escalate the battle, equivalent to Cell charging up his plant destroying attack.
If the bad guys have a nuke on a timer, you know it’ll be defused with seconds to spare. But before that can happen, the timer has to start counting down, and that never happened.
So I agree with you there that something has to be done with the merger. Though I wished the timer happened a bit earlier, if even it'll happen.
Good analogy!
The Merger had never been "activated" or as you said it, the timer has not started to count down. It's a big ass threat that just stood there without becoming a real threat to the protagonists even after Kenjaku transferred Tengen's pregnancy over to Sukuna. Last month I said that after the Sukuna fight, the merger arc would start because of the way everything was setup.
Meaning: the merger and the Sukuna's fight were not going concurrently. Sukuna's defeat would not end the merger because the merger plot had not started yet. (Also where is Tengen now? Inside Megumi?) So now, with 3 chapters left, that entire setup (like some other setups) feels cut off.
Not rushed but Cut Off.
And the thing is, no one can tell me that Gege doesn't know this. The guy grew up on the same manga we did, he read Naruto, HxH, Bleach and who knows what else. He's also a movie buff and he has an entire corporation behind him who know their manga stuff and story telling and they can get into his business when they think he makes a bad job of it.
So I stand here believing that we will get a JJK Part 2 because otherwise Gege would've trimmed the fat off his story, right? He wouldn't have dragged story beats and plots forward that wouldn't have the proper time and conclusion, right?
🙃 the only thing left here is to see what he plans with the last 3 chapters. Everything can still happen there... but I'm also hoping for a bombshell anouncement about Part 2.

It just doesn’t make ANY SENSE. NONE AT ALL. Gojo was absolutely slaughtering Sukuna. There is absolutely no reason why Sukuna would still be “underestimating him” and “holding back” like 20 chapters into the Damn fight. SUKUNA pulled out his entire fucking catalog he was throwing Pokémon at my king and was STILL LOSING. There is genuinely no way this fucking happened. Not only did Gege ruin the most hyped up fight in the show with only like 5 panels, but he ruined Gojos arc and story. This genuinely RUINS the story. I’m saying this as a JJK fan, not a Gojo fan. He couldn’t even have the decency to think of a way for SUKUNA to have a comeback, HE LITERALLY JUST APPARENTLY HEALED EVERYTHING AND BECAME A POWERHOUSE OFF SCREEN AND CUT GOJO IN HALF?? Now that I’ve seen the whole chapter I see how fucking terrible and rushed it is. He said that he learned to cut through space and time so infinity doesn’t matter???? WHAT THE FUCK DOES THAT MEAN???? And Gojo could’ve def beaten him without infinity too. My gears are actually fucking grinding rn. They gave my king a fucking off screen death and HUMILIATED HIM by making him say sukuna was always stronger than him. Idk what Gege is on but I need some of it because no fucking way he actually thought this was a good idea. Gojo and Getos reunion was BARELT ANYTHING. Are you meaning to tell me after Gojo spent his whole life loving him got betrayed by him killed hik had to bury him had his body used against him to seal him in another dimension he would’ve just been like “oh hey Geto” NOOOOOO!!!!! He literally fucking started to smile when he saw Kenjaku using Getos body for a second because he thought it was Geto. You’re meaning to tell me his team reaction to seeing Geto again was just FUCKING NOTHING???? GOJO WOULDVE LITERALLY BROKEN DOWN AND AFTER THAT LONG HARD ASS FIGHT WE DONT WVEN GET TO SEE GOJO CRY???? FOR ALL HES BEEN THROUGH????? HE COULDNT JUST SAY HE LOVED GETO AND HE WISHED HE COULD TAKE IT ALL BACK??? He said he didn’t have any regrets. ITS SO FUCKING OUT OF CHARACTER??????? He regretted EVERRYYYTTHHIIINNGGG!!!!! His life was literally ass. It’s been confirmed like 20 times over that Gojos biggest regret was not following Geto when he left. Did he not regret having to hurt Megumi? Did he not regret not saving Riko? Did he not regret not being able to save Itadori? Did he not regret having to die infront of all his students? Does he not regret not being there to save Nanami? He doesn’t regret not trying to live his life for himself? HE DOESNT REGRET ANYTHHIIINNNGGG?????? Oh so we’re lying now. I’m so fucking mad I’m FUMING. And now we have Kamishido fighting SUKUNA??? IF THE STRONGEST CANR BEAT HIM WHO THE FUCK CAN???? It’s not even a situation where it’s like it was neck and neck the whole time but Gojo eventually lost barely so now someone else has to finish Sukuna off. Because now apparently Sukuna is FUCKING ALL POWERFUL????? His death was barely even focused on HIS FEELINGS. All we got was that he regrets nothing (wrong) and that Highschool was the best part of his life (which we already knew). I’m not over his lack luster reaction to seeing Geto. Gojo literally froze for a full fucking minute when he saw Kenjaku, so when he sees the real Geto he’s just like “aw man this sucks!!😝😝” SHUT THE FUCK UP I HSTE YOU GEGE I HATE YOU. I’ve been genuinely mourning him. I can’t even look at his sexy edits anymore without wanting to bawl my eyes out again. I’ve never felt so much sadness for the death of a character. Fuck you Sukuna fuck you Toji fuck you Kenjaku and fuck anyone who’s not dick riding my king. I refuse to see him off like this. FUCK YOU GEGE WHEN I FIND YOU DONT JUST LOCK YOUR DOORS BLOCK ALL YOUR PIPES BECAUSE I WILL PULL AN OCTOPUS AND CRAWL THROUGH YOUR PIPES LIKE A LIQIUD

I CANT BELIEVE ITS FINISHED ALREADY 😭😭😭 CANT WAIT FOR WHATEVER U HAVE PLANNED NEXT !!!
SUGURU AND MAKI BONDING WAS HONESTLY SO SATISFYING THAT ENTIRE PART WAS VERY SLAY (I GET WHAT U MEAN WHEN U SAID SUGURUS REALLY GOING THROUGH IT)
NOBARA BEING #LOYAL🙏💪💪🔥🔥🔥🔥
yuki's little ducklings 💀 im just imagining those ducks that cross the road woth the milf duck being at the forefront and the ducklings following and then just people road raging in the background because of the traffic
todosistermaki 😍😍😍 (that is all i cannoot express it in words....so my keyboard smash will have to do pojigyuvgedckvogturjnewkgt....hope u got all of that)
nobara and todo might be getting into fights with students at their school (im genuinely assuming abt nobara but tbh it rly sounds like something she would do like she would totally get into a fist fight with someone) but yuki's getting into fights with the parents. every parent-teacher meeting is a nightmare for nobara WAIT I JUST REALISED THE IMPLICATION THAT TODO DROWNS HIMSELF IN AXE BODY SPRAY HELP IM DYING AT THIS 😭😭😭 (SOMETIMES I GENUINELY FEEL CONCERNED BY WHAT YUKI TAUGHT HIM.....THEN AGAIN SHE PROBABLY HAD AN AXE BODY SPRAY PHASE TOO....)
UNSURPRISINGLY THE SIBLING BONDING WAS MY FAVORITE
she rly took her takada shirt off just so that maki wouldnt come to know 😭 todo wanting to marry takada (poor thing was so engrossed by the idea of marrying an idol he sees like maximum once a month idk how often fan greets happen that he didnt notice the way takada made moves on mai 😭😭 maybe one day very far into the future)
OREO STEALING THE SPOTLIGHT AS ALWAYS <333
“Oh so when he wants to cuddle he’s yours but when he’s a problem he’s my son?” 😂😂😂😂😂
KFC???? IN THIS HOUSEHOLD????? NAUR WAY LMFAO (i thought for a second this was abt the satosugu breakup but then i realised its actually a tradition in japan for people to get kfc during christmas HELP)

THIS CHAPTER WAS JUST SO SWEET OVERALL OMG
JDHFSJDHSJSJ HELLO YOU ARE VERY SLAY!!!!
It is over and that makes me very sad but reading all of this has made me extremely happy so tyyy <3333 And now I wish I could draw because that image of like Yuki and the kids as ducks crossing a road is going to be forever engraved in my brain and I love that!!!! Omg. She's truly embarrassing yes she is, poor Nobara man she has to deal with that but in return Yuki has to deal with HER so .... idk who is more stressed out.
And omg I was rereading Todo's scenes in the manga right and volume 5's extras say that he always smells nice and it bothers the girls at the Kyoto school and I was just like mmm why would it bother them??? So that's where the axe thing came from kshdfkhasSDJ not to mention the extra also says he's mad at the rule that bans idols from dating because he wants to marry Takada RIGHT NOW (literally Gege's words, not mine) This man is so unserious that girl is clearly gay but anyways. Teenage Yuki having an axe body spray phase... no words. That has killed me. But !!!!!! I'm actually so glad that part was your favorite because I was kicking my feet twirling my hair writing it I found it hysterical sdkfhds
And I wondered if anyone was going to mention stsg with the KFC thing SDHGFASJFGD listen. They have appropriated that in this fandom but I'm taking it back. It's normal ok?
Stoppp Panda messing with Fumi SDHSDJF that is so real. Mannnnn like always your asks just make me laugh my ass off. In regards to Geto and Yuki I am obsessed with the idea that Yuki just has fun in her time off and she's just like. very chill. likes to party. And Geto's like... a boomer who goes to sleep at 7pm and complains about jetlag. LMAO.
ANYWAYS thank you for this!!!!!! Seriously puts a smile on my face :D :D I'm glad you enjoyed it and so happy you take the time to send me these because SDJGEISAKFS

I guess the question I have for the nhs is a half demon au is: what reason are we going to give for lxc to marry him after he comes back from visiting his mom? Also is he going to save wwx?
wwx did well for himself while nhs was off to live his little demon life, but he is the first person nhs visits upon returning among humans, because he's heard some concerning rumours...
On AO3
Small feet ran to the entrance of the cave, only slowing down at the very last moment and stopping just shy of actually coming in.
“Xian-gege, there’s a person at the gate,” Wen Yuan announced, careful to not actually shout.
Wei Wuxian smiled to himself, proud as always of this most excellent young boy he was helping raise, who obeyed rules much better than Wei Wuxian himself had ever done in his life.
“What sort of person?” Wei Wuxian asked, still hunched over his latest prototype. He was getting somewhere with this, he knew it. He just had to figure out how to…
“It’s an odd person,” Wen Yuan announced. “He says he’s here to see you.”
That was hardly news. Most of the visitors they'd had these last five years had come to the Burial Mounds to see Wei Wuxian. Sometimes, Lan Xichen would also come to see his brother and give them money. And in recent months, some people from the area had started coming to see Wen Qing in hopes she might cure them. But still, people mostly came for Wei Wuxian, either because they wanted to kill him, or because they wanted to join him. Either way, they were usually rejected.
“Did that man give his name?”
“He didn’t,” Wen Yuan announced, sounding indignant that anyone would be so rude. “He says you have to come see him, and then you’ll know him, and you’ll let him in. He sounded very sure.”
That intrigued Wei Wuxian enough to make him look up from his work and walk up to join Wen Yuan. A lot of people knew him, but there weren’t that many he knew, few of which would be sure to be allowed on the Burial Mounds, fewer still who would wish to be there at all. Jiang Cheng was the only person that came to mind, but he’d been around a few times in the years since Wei Wuxian had left Yunmeng Jiang, and Wen Yuan knew him well. Who else, then?
“That man, did he have any trouble walking?”
Wen Yuan shook his head. So it couldn’t be Jin Zixuan then. With his wooden leg, the climb to the gate would have been difficult anyway, and he would not have come unannounced.
“What did he look like?” Wei Wuxian asked, growing puzzled enough to consider meeting the stranger.
“He has a nice face, but it’s weird because of his eyes,” Wen Yuan said. “And he’s dressed with very good fabric, even better than Jiang-gege. And there’s a lot of teeth when he smiles.”
Without a word, Wei Wuxian started walking, with Wen Yuan following him. He didn’t like that description at all. He had hardly met him personally, but he’d heard about that boy in the Jin sect, that Xue Yang who was apparently trying to reproduce some of Wei Wuxian’s creations, with some success. He had an odd smile, Lan Xichen had said once when talking about him, so maybe…
“Oh, and there’s one more thing,” Wen Yuan said, slapping the side of his head. “I should have said first! But he has a mark on his forehead, it’s very red and looks a bit like a flame.”
Wei Wuxian froze.
“Xian-gege?”
“Go get Lan Zhan,” Wei Wuxian ordered. “Tell him there’s an emergency and I need him at the gate immediately. Wen Ning too. And tell Wen Qing to take everyone else to the hideout. No matter what, none of you are coming out until we come to get you. Go! Now!”
Frightened to see him so serious, Wen Yuan didn’t ask any question and scampered away as fast as his legs would take him. Wei Wuxian for his part hurried toward the gate after having made sure he had everything he’d need for a fight, knowing thing might turn vicious if he was right. He cursed as he walked, and hoped to be wrong about the identity of their visitor.
When he reached the gate and saw the man standing there, Wei Wuxian almost believed for a second that he’d been wrong indeed. The stranger, who had his back to the gate, was too tall, his shoulders too broad. But then, hearing that someone was approaching, the man turned to look at Wei Wuxian, and there was no mistake possible.
“Wei-xiong, it’s been a while,” Nie Huaisang said, smiling as if they were old friends who hadn’t seen each other for a few years. “You look worse than I remembered, but better than I expected.”
“Nie-xiong, it’s pretty bold of you to come here after what you’ve done,” Wei Wuxian retorted. “Couldn’t you have made it easier for everyone and stayed dead?”
Nie Huaisang's smile got wider, showing just a little more teeth than a mortal's would have. He looked better than he'd done last time Wei Wuxian had seen him. Healthier and a lot more confident. And why not? Last they'd been around each other, Nie Huaisang had been terrified someone might try to kill him, but he'd now proved just how difficult that would be.
“I would have, but some news reached me that forced me to rejoin the human world after all these years. Wei-xiong, won’t you let me in?”
“I hope you understand why I’d rather not. You have a history of slaughtering people I’d rather not see repeated.”
Nie Huaisang frowned and pinched his lips, looking almost sincerely hurt by the reminder of his past deeds.
“I’ve been told your shijie recovered,” he said in a softer tone, sounding more like the boy Wei Wuxian had studied with in Gusu. “And that Jin Zixuan too is… well, he’s alive, right? Don’t they even have a son?”
“They’re both doing as well as they can, no thanks to you.”
Again, Nie Huaisang looked wounded by the accusation. Wei Wuxian remembered how his old friend had been after the reveal of his true nature, the way he’d desperately tried to hide what he was, the terror he’d expressed in every letter they had exchanged… Still, what had been done couldn’t be changed, and Wei Wuxian hadn’t survived this long by trusting just anyone.
If anything, it was Nie Huaisang’s example who had taught him to be wary.
“Wei-xiong, you remember when we were in the Cloud Recesses together, and we made realgar wine a little before you were kicked out?” Nie Huaisang suddenly asked and though surprised by the change of topic, Wei Wuxian nodded. “All the other Nie disciples with us were quite stunned,” Nie Huaisang reminisced with a sad smile. “They’d never seen me drunk before. It’s a skill I’ve always had, though nobody at home really knew why. I can eat anything, drink anything, and never get sick… anything but realgar, which affects me badly, I’ve found since.”
Without thinking, Wei Wuxian nodded again. Realgar was used to ward off evil, and it was said to have a particularly strong effect on demons. That particular time, Nie Huaisang had only had one small sip because he’d found the smell of realgar wine unpleasant, and just that single sip had made him violently sick, and so irritable he'd bitten Jiang Cheng who'd only wanted to check on him… though of course most people would be in a bad mood after vomiting that much. At the time, none of them had thought there was anything odd with that.
Yet if he’d had more wine than that, Nie Huaisang might have died, or attacked his friends.
“It wasn’t the time of year for realgar wine,” Wei Wuxian noted, feeling himself grow more curious than angry. “So find a better excuse.”
“It wasn’t the season for it, and I didn’t notice the difference in smell,” Nie Huaisang agreed. “But the person who helped me recover from my wounds assured me that my blood was tainted by realgar, and I’ve learned since that there are ways to cover the taste, or to increase the effect. And Jin Zixun was ever so insistent on making me drink that day. Funny, when we’d never been close. Or indeed when I had been promised that he wouldn’t be there, since I didn’t much care for him.”
It was something that had always puzzled them indeed. Not just Wei Wuxian, but Lan Wangji too, and even Jin Zixuan and Jiang Yanli when they’d had a chance to speak about that. As far as everyone had known, Jin Zixun had been in hiding at that time, terrified that Wei Wuxian might try to kill him for what he’d done to Wen Ning and his family. And Jin Zixun had been quite vocal regarding what he thought should be done to Nie Huaisang, too.
Odd that he’d come to a Night Hunt where were present not only Wei Wuxian’s beloved shijie, but also the terrifying demon that terrorized everyone.
It sounded a lot braver than Jin Zixun had ever been known to be.
“It’s easy to blame a dead man,” Wei Wuxian remarked.
“And it’s easy to blame a demon,” Nie Huaisang retorted. “Especially for someone who’d have the demon’s trust. Funny also how this incident ensured that Qinghe Nie became isolated and despised, just when it was considered the one sect which might have stood against Lanling Jin’s ambitions.”
Wei Wuxian shrugged. He’d personally also profited quite a bit from this conflict between the Nies and the Jins.
It had distracted everyone from what he was doing in Yiling. By the time the Jins had emerged fully victorious from that political battle, Wei Wuxian’s presence in the Burial Mound had been secure, while the Jins had been too busy securing their new power to think of attacking him. Besides, with him no longer part of Yunmeng Jiang and thus not involved in politics, and with his actions having made it clear that he wasn’t a threat, everyone had found it easier to leave him alone. Sometimes someone would still wonder if he should be annihilated, but a few words from Lan Xichen or Jiang Cheng seemed to usually be enough to put an end to that, at least for now.
Everyone might start thinking differently if he associated with a demon though.
“Supposing I believe you,” Wei Wuxian said, and he was ready enough to believe Nie Huaisang, demon or not. “I’m not sure what I can do for you.”
“Don’t think of it as you doing something for me, Wei-xiong. Think of it as the two of us teaming up to protect our families. You see, demons gossip just as much as mortals do, and I’ve been hearing a few worrying things while living with them. There’s a reason I know your shijie has a son, you see.”
Wei Wuxian shivered, but before he could ask for details, Wen Ning and Lan Wangji arrived at last. They were both stunned to see Nie Huaisang, though Lan Wangji had to be the more shocked of the two, since he would actually recognise the young man, while Wen Ning had never met him before.
Smiling faintly, Nie Huaisang bowed elegantly to the two newcomers, as if this were but an ordinary meeting between old friends.
“Lan gongzi, I did not expect you had really come to live here!” Nie Huaisang exclaimed with something like real joy. “I suppose gossip these days carries more truth than I’d have expected.”
“Fine, I’ll bite,” Wei Wuxian said. “What have you heard about my shijie and her son?”
“Let me come in,” Nie Huaisang replied. “And then we can talk.”
It felt like a trap, and maybe it was one.
Even after having disappeared for years, Nie Huaisang knew Wei Wuxian’s weaknesses. It had been a mistake perhaps to write to him back then, to confide in him, to stay his friend when the rest of the world shunned him… but Wei Wuxian too had needed a friend after the Sunshot Campaign, and Nie Huaisang had never judged him for what he’d done, not even before his demon blood was revealed.
This was a mistake.
And yet, Wei Wuxian opened the gate.

You sit in Megumi’s room, an empty box of sashimi and soda can sitting beside you. You’re on your fifth movie, silently wishing Fushiguro would come through the door and keep you company.
Your wish is granted...but not in the way you’d hoped.
Fushiguro’s beaten and broken body leans on the door frame as he pushes the door open with the only strength he has left. You run up to the door and he falls into your outstretched arms.
“Megumi! Are you ok?? What happened?!”
“(y/n)...i’m sorry...”
“Sorry? Megumi what’s going on?”
He doesn’t respond, dropping his tired head onto your shoulder. You pull him into the room and throw him onto his bed. You lightly smack his face a few times in hopes of waking him up a bit, but he’s knocked out cold. You run out the room frantically searching for Yuuji. You run into Nobara’s room and find her face in bandages.
What the hell happened.
—— i love you - billie eilish ——
You nervously sit by Megumi’s bedside, waiting for him to wake up again. After about an hour he wakes up. He sees your face and quickly sits up.
“(y/n)!”
“Megumi what’s going on!? Nobara’s face is bandaged and I can’t find Yuuji anywhere!”
He reaches a hand out and cups your cheek, wiping away the small tears that roll down your face. You didn’t even know you were crying.
“I’m scared Megumi...”
“I know, and I don’t know if there’s an easy way to tell you this, but Itadori...is not coming back...”
Your eyes widen in shock.
“What do you mean-”
“(y/n) he...he’s dead...”
You stare blankly into his eyes, processing the words that just came out of his mouth.
He can’t be.
Your eyes well up with even more tears, and they stream down your face leaving a warm trail. Your heart is racing and millions of questions are running through your mind.
“Him and Kou fought-“
“Kou?” You say, cutting him off
“...Kou...was also killed by the curse...”
The pain is too much. Your crying becomes louder and more violent. You’re shaking uncontrollably as Megumi holds onto your arms, keeping you from hurting yourself. Your eyes shoot open and your pupils begin shaking. Megumi notices and desperately tries to calm you down. He pulls you into his arms and presses your face onto the fabric on his shoulder, as you sob. He pulls away slightly, putting your face in between his warm hands. Your eyes are still shaking. Your hysteria isn’t going to let up anytime soon. He pulls your face up towards his, stopping with only a few inches between you two. You feel his hot breath on your lips. Your eyes flutter closed as you wait for Megumi’s soft lips to meet yours. He swipes his thumb across your cheek, getting rid of the excess moisture from your tears. He pulls away, panting heavily.
“Let’s sleep for a bit. There’s lots to think about and I think we would both benefit from a nap right now.” He says, unable to make eye contact.
You absentmindedly nod and fall into his arms, exhausted from crying. You rest your head against his chest, and his heartbeat gently lulls you to sleep.
You wake up a while later, unsure of how much time has passed. Couldn’t have been long if the sun is still out. You’re alone.
Where’s Megumi?
You barely make it out the door when you suddenly remember that Itadori was gone...Kou was too...
You walk back into the room feeling utterly defeated.
Wait...earlier.
Megumi.
Was he trying...to kiss you?
—— killshot - magdalena bay ——
Megumi pov:
Why did I do that.
They’re probably really confused.
What if they don’t like me back.
I shouldn’t have got that close.
But it felt so right...
“‘Live a long life’?..doesn’t mean much when you go and die yourself. Is this your first time having a partner die?” Kugisaki asks, sitting on the steps beside me.
“First time for one my age...”
“Well you’re taking it well.”
“Same to you, although (y/n) isn’t...”
“You told them already?”
“They had to find out at some point, I thought maybe they’d want to hear it from me.”
“Well I didn’t know him for that long. I’m not some simple woman who cries when someone she just met dies.” She says.
Her breathing becomes shaky and I can hear her sniffling. My eyes begin to water just a bit but I hold them back when I hear a familiar voice.
“What’s this? You’re looking more glum than usual Megumi. This a wake or something?”
“Zenin-senpai.” I respond.
“Don’t call me by my last name!-“
She’s swiftly interrupted by another familiar voice coming from behind a statue.
“Maki! Maki! You actually don’t know why they’re so down?” Panda-senpai says.
“What are you talking about?” Maki responds.
“Someone really did die yesterday! One of the first year boys!”
“Bonito flakes”
“Why didn’t you tell me sooner!? Now I look like some heartless, cold-blooded demon!”
“That’s exactly how you came off!”
“Tunamayo.”
I look over my shoulder and see (y/n) coming towards us.
I guess they were going to meet the second years at some point. Might as well be now.
“(y/n)!” I say standing up to meet them.
They walk over to where I’m standing and wrap an arm around my waist, burying their cheek in my shoulder.
I wrap my arm around their shoulders and place my opposite hand on their cheek stroking it lightly.
I guess they’re not mad at me.
Nobara gets up and stands next to us, eyeing us and the position we’re currently in.
“Hm, I knew something was up.”
I give a small smile and look at (y/n) who looks lost in their thoughts. I wonder what they’re thinking about.
(y/n) pov:
You stand next to Megumi, his arm wrapped protectively around you. Tight enough to make you feel safe, but not enough to suffocate you. You gripped onto him as your thoughts take you captive once again.
“You’re supposed to try and make me feel better!!” You hear a voice say in the distance.
Who were those people? They seem to be wearing similar uniforms to you three.
“Who are those guys?” Nobara asks.
“The second year upperclassmen.” Megumi responds.
So they’re your age...
“You have to be kinder to your underclassmen.” The panda says.
Wait...the panda...talks?!?
Megumi interrupts your thoughts and starts giving a rundown on who each student is.
“Zenin-senpai is the best of all the students at wielding cursed tools.” He says pointing to the tall green-haired ponytail girl.
“Salmon.”
“That’s the cursed speech user, Inumaki-senpai. He can only speak in onigiri ingredients. And that’s Panda-senpai. There’s one more, Okkotsu-senpai, he’s the only one I can openly respect, but he’s overseas right now.” Megumi explains, looking at yours and Nobara’s confused faces.
“Wait. You’re not adding more about the panda named Panda?” Nobara responds.
You look at Megumi and nod your head in agreement with Nobara.
He sighs and looks away from both of you.
“We’re sorry about this...and when you’re in mourning. Please forgive us for that. The truth is we’d like you to participate in the Kyoto Sister School Exchange Event.” The panda says, his hands clasped together, practically begging.
“Kyoto Sister School Exchange Event? What’s that?” Nobara asks, looking to Megumi for any kind of explanation.
“It’s a get together with the other tech school in Kyoto. But isn’t it mainly for second and third years?” He asks his senpais.
“Those stupid third years are suspended right now. So you need to participate.”
Panda describes what goes on at the event, saying that it’s basically a showdown between jujutsu sorcerers from each school.
I don’t understand anything they’re talking about.
“So you’ll do it right? I mean you just had a partner die on you after all.”
You flinch at the ponytail’s comment. Megumi notices and squeezes your shoulder lightly. Both first years look at you, silently asking for permission to train and fight in this event. You smile and nod.
You wouldn’t want them to miss out on something just because of you.
“We’re in.”

Omg tell us what gege did to piss you off 🙂🏽
Not me pausing even writing my Geto fic to rant about the mistreatment of Geto-
Manga spoilers under the cut btw
Alright so as I’ve started before Geto is kinda legit maybe my favorite character. It’s a love hate relationship though bc frankly it seems pretty obvious he made a contract with that fucking brain worm. But him and the brain worm are a completely separate rant that makes me want to bonk Geto on the head with a slipper.
Anyways, Gege-
Point blank Jujutsu is about Gojo. Like I won’t deny that Gojo is clearly Gege’s main character and the crux of the show. So by no means do I hate the author or anything and I don’t hate Gojo. I mean this is fiction, it has to have turmoil to generate plot lol
If any of you who’ve read the manga and read the plasma vessel arc know that’s where we meet Geto Geto (not the brain worm) And we get to meet a firmly rooted, strong, gentle, kind, be it a little sassy, wonderful Geto who literally has the best moral compass and is the reason and warmth to Gojo’s “I can do what I want why do I care” attitude (ie. golden child vs the one who’s worked hard) Supposedly with the idea that the three of them (Shoko, Geto, Gojo) are best friends like none other.
But then the fucking arc happens, death disarray blah blah blah all that crap. And suddenly we get to fuck Geto over. Like, ok that shit was traumatizing to everyone involve there’s no doubt in that fact. And the lack of help from higher ups definitely feeds into the main narrative that the old ways need to go. But what pisses me off is supposedly here were all these “friends” around Geto and no one gave two shits to help him. When it was stated he was visibly thinner. And basically wasn’t talking or interacting with anyone.
As someone who’s had my share of lapses in self care that lead to more, terrible things, my friends and those closest to me were the only reasons I was able to get help. Bc, frankly, that’s what friends do. But instead everyone just let Geto get this bad?
“But what if he said he was fine, then they can’t do anything.”
Your right, he probably repeatedly said it was fine. But you know what, if your friends you damn well know it isn’t fine and you don’t give up on them.
“But its not their responsibility to fix Geto.”
Yes it’s no one’s responsibility to help anyone but you know what next time you need help don’t ask your friends or family for it bc hey its not their responsibility right?
Anyways back to the rant.
Geto was THIS horribly off and not once did Gojo or Shoko or anyone frankly try and do something. They just let him spiral. Until Yuki sunk her nails in him (which I have heated feelings about her but that’s another rant) So basically for OVER a year these “friends” let Geto absolutely dissolve into a husk of nothing while witnessing it with the guise “well if he wanted to come back/change/whatever, then he can” like what kind of lackadaisical fucking bullshit excuse to not take response is that. It shifts all the blame onto Geto who CLEARLY needed help but no one was willing to help him even though he helped everyone post vessel incident.
So which all leads to Geto and the cult and then Vol 0 and Geto’s death blah blah blah. And what pisses me off the most is Gege had this wonderful character who was like all the best traits of the current generation (nori, yuji, megumi etc) and fucking offed him for Gojo’s growth/story. Gege put all that effort into Geto just to make sure that it was that two seconds he needed to get Gojo in the box. Not to mention if their best friend died why the fuck didn’t Shoko or Gojo tend to the body? Or even Yaga who has been expressed as being close to the three when they were students. Like I know there’s the entire traitor among them type of plot (as there is with every anime) but it just irks me the wrong way to no end over Geto’s mistreatment in the story purely for Gojo’s growth.
Basically at this point I’d just like Gege to kill and keep dead this stupid god damn body. Like at no point has Geto’s body know rest since the plasma arc and I hate it bc it happens literally to the best of them (as it’s happening to Yuji, Yuji’s not my favorite but it’s heartbreaking to see the shit he goes through ngl) and a lot of the turmoil in the story revolves directly around Gojo. Which is why I wish people would be a little more critical about Gojo’s character bc it was basically laid out for us that the reason this shit is happening is bc Gojo’s existence throws everything out of whack. I don’t hate Gojo or anything (he’s just a little boring to me, not into the god trope) but I hate the ties to most the character’s suffering playing into Gojo’s character. Geto being the big main one that drives me crazy bc it just feels like Gege threw him away so they could extend Gojo’s character.
Anyways, sorry for the rant I just have heated opinions on the use of Geto’s character which always drives me crazy  😅

Jealousy is a Bitch
Characters/pairings: FengQing (background HuaLian)
Genre: fluff and fun with a hint of jealousy
Word count: 3117
Summary: Mu Qing has a new friend. Feng Xin is suspicious. Xie Lian is giving out advices while sipping tea. Hua Cheng is annoyed. Feng Xin and Mu Qing realize that no matter what, the both of them are just big idiots whose love language is fighting.
“And then do you know what they fucking said?” Feng Xin’s aggravated tone echoed all around the room of the freshly renovated Puqi shrine.
Xie Lian, put his teacup down and patiently asked, “What did they say?”
“Those assholes had the nerve to say that I’m overreacting and there’s nothing wrong with General Xuan Zhen having a new friend. I swear I’m not going to help them the next time a ghost tries to eat them.”
“You’re kind of overreacting, though,” Hua Cheng commented, sounding extremely bored and mild annoyed after having to listen to Feng Xin’s problems for so long.
“Shut the fuck up, I’m talking to His Highness, not you!”
Xie Lian cut in before those two could have continued arguing.
“Feng Xin, what exactly is bothering you about this new friend of Mu Qing?”
“Can’t you see it, Your Highness? We’re talking about that Mu Qing! He’s the opposite of friendly, how could he suddenly get so close with that guy? Something isn’t right about this!”
“I mean... I agree that it’s unusual but even he could have a friend or two.”
“He already-” Feng Xin stopped himself, sighing and demolishing the ridiculous he already has me, he doesn’t need anyone else thought that was threatening to slip out of his lips. “Anyways, I’m telling you that something is fishy about that guy.”
Hua Cheng spoke up again, “So, what are you going to do about it?”
“What do you mean?”
“You came here to bother us because you’re worried about your crush leaving you for someone better, didn’t you? So I’m asking what you’re planning to do. Don’t tell me that you’re just going to whine to His Highness and then sulk in a corner.”
The eyes of Feng Xin twitched, “Your Highness, can I punch him just once?”
“I’m afraid that if I let you punch him; I would have to let him fight back too. And if San Lang beats you up, who would make sure Mu Qing’s new friend is harmless?”
“I hate the both of you.”
With that, Feng Xin burst out of the door, slamming it behind his back.
“Tch, gege is kindly giving him advice and he’s not even thankful...”
Xie Lian poured fresh tea for both Hua Cheng and himself. “Well, I’m sure he took the advice to his heart.”
Hua Cheng raised his brow. “Do you really think so?”
“He didn’t deny that he has a crush on Mu Qing, did he?” Xie Lian smiled and took a sip of his tea.
*****
Feng Xin was so angry that the passing heavenly officials swore they could see steam coming out of his ears. That damned Crimson Rain Sought Flower! How dare he?! Assuming ridiculous things! He does not have a crush on Mu Qing!
Who would even have a crush on someone as boring, apathetic and hostile?!
Not Feng Xin.
Definitely not Feng Xin.
He merely visited out of worry and suspicion. But if nobody was willing to listen to him then so be it!
“Don’t come begging to me for help when things go wrong!” Feng Xin yelled at nothing in particular and stormed into his golden palace. He passed several alerted subordinates before arriving to his bedroom where he slammed the door shut and punched the wall for good measure.
This was ridiculous.
Everything started a few months ago when the Heavens shook signaling that somebody ascended. The brand-new heavenly official was called Mo Huan and he was a martial god. Apparently, he came from the southern territories and after defeating fearful demons and selflessly protecting the mountain village where he lived, he passed a heavenly calamity and ascended. He seemed like a common little martial god, nothing too special.
Feng Xin would have never bothered to spare more than a glance to newcomers of his kind and so did Mu Qing however, this particular newcomer obviously had other plans. From the first day, he expressed great interest in General Xuan Zhen in particular. He kept babbling on and on about how he’d always visited his temples in the mortal world and that if he ever ascended, he wanted to meet him first. As expected, Mu Qing listened to him indifferently then walked off. Nothing out of the ordinary.
What was out of the ordinary was that from this day onward, Mo Huan kept following Mu Qing around like an enthusiastic puppy, claiming that he wanted to learn from him. Feng Xin expected for Mu Qing to roll his eyes and tell him off but instead what he said was, “Do as you wish.”
And thus, the suspicious friendship between the newly ascended little marital god, Mo Huan and the god of southwest, General Xuan Zhen began. At the same time, the god of the southeast, General Nan Feng’s misery of watching while seething in jealousy also began.
After the battle with the ex-Heavenly Emperor, the relationship between Feng Xin, Mu Qing and Xie Lian gradually started improving. Even without the supervision of Xie Lian, Feng Xin and Mu Qing were not always at each other’s throat. Of course, saying that they argued less would be a stretch, but instead of threatening to kill each other every time they got into an argument changed into merely fighting with words. After a year or two, the missions they took together had also increased and they found that their teamwork was actually very good so they didn’t oppose too much when they had to share the merits. They’d slowly come to realize that going together just meant that they would be able to finish earlier.
Soon, the public relationship between the two generals wasn’t that of two generals fighting for dominance over the southern region but that of two generals guarding the southern region together.
They were almost something like partners.
And maybe, just maybe Feng Xin started to quite enjoy the company of his partner.
And now it was getting stolen away.
By that suspicious, shady asshole.
Whatever!
If Mu Qing would rather hang around that newbie, Feng Xin wouldn’t stop him. If Mu Qing was too stupid to realize that there’s something wrong with that guy, Feng Xin wouldn’t care.
*****
“I definitely do not care, I’m just giving a last warning,” Feng Xin muttered to himself while pacing in front of Mu Qing’s golden palace. “If he still won’t listen, he can die for all I care.”
Steeling his resolve and organizing his thoughts, he turned to the door, raised his hand and-
The door opened before him as Mu Qing stepped out. Their gazes met for a moment, and both of their eyes widened in surprise.
Mu Qing collected himself first, asking as he closed the door behind him, “What do you want?”
“Be careful with that new guy. He’s definitely scheming something,” Feng Xin stated. Mu Qing rolled his eyes and Feng Xin could feel the irritation growing in himself again. “I’m warning you for your sake!”
“Don’t you think that I would notice if he was ‘scheming’ something?”
“W-well... maybe you’re being a dumbass and he deceived you!”
Mu Qing’s brows twitched. “Yeah? If you’re done with calling me a dumbass then I’m going. I have a mission with him.”
Feng Xin’s entire face turned red from anger, frustration and a sense of betrayal. It was a well-known fact in the Heavenly Capital that General Xuan Zhen never ever goes on missions together with someone. He’d always been working alone. He’d only ever joined hands with Feng Xin, claiming that it’s only because their territories are very close and it’s unavoidable. Now he was saying that he was about to go on a joint mission together with that shady newbie who kept sucking up to him?
“What’s so good about him anyways...” Feng Xin muttered through gritted teeth, a second away from exploding.
“Well for starters, he’s a lot less annoying than you.” Mu Qing turned his head to flash him a taunting smirk before leaving, his grin widening as he heard the string of curses flying from Feng Xin’s mouth.
*****
Of course, Mu Qing knew that Mo Huan wasn’t hanging around him out of the pure goodness of his heart. He had been a god for more than 800 years now. He wasn’t that easy to fool. Some might call him the most unapproachable man, why would he blindly trust someone after a bit of flattery?
Feng Xin was truly the most annoying out of all. Mu Qing didn’t trust him for a whole 800 years, why would he ever begin to think that he’d lost all sense of reason for this new guy? Was he out of his mind?
In any case, as the saying goes: keep your friends close and keep your enemies even closer. He would find out what Mo Huan wanted from him and deal with it himself. In the meantime, he might as well entertain himself with watching Feng Xin lose his mind over it.
However, what Mu Qing didn’t expect was that after that warning last time, he wouldn’t be able to see Feng Xin lose his mind and flap around in frustration anymore.
*****
“And then do you know what he fucking did?”
Xie Lian took a sip of his tea as he listened to Mu Qing, feeling a strange sense of déjà vu wash over him. “What did he do?”
“He slammed the door against my face! What the fuck?” Mu Qing slammed his own teacup harshly down on the table, spilling its contents.
Hua Cheng shot him a glare, daring him to waste even a drop of the tea His Highness generously gave him. Xie Lian quickly interjected to dissolve the tense atmosphere.
“And what happened to this new martial god?”
“What do you think happened? I knocked him out. Fucking bastard, trying to steal my merits.”
“If I recall, something similar happened before, didn’t it?”
Mu Qing snorted, “It’s the third time this century. These newly ascended brats have no shame, I swear. That’s not the point. The point is that dumbass Feng Xin is throwing a temper tantrum again and if he keeps at it, I’m gonna smash down his golden palace. What the fuck is even wrong with him?”
Xie Lian and Hua Cheng shared a look.
Xie Lian nodded.
“So, what are you going to do about it?” Hua Cheng asked.
“What does it have to do with you?” Mu Qing glared.
“Gege, can I punch him just once?”
“Come at me, you bastard!”
“No fighting in my shrine.”
The two of them kept glaring daggers at each other but otherwise didn’t do anything. Finally, Hua Cheng sighed, “You came here to bother us because you’re worried about your crush refusing to talk to you, didn’t you? So I’m asking what you’re planning to do. Don’t tell me that you’re just going to whine to His Highness and then sulk in a corner.”
“None of your business, I’m leaving,” Mu Qing downed the remaining of his tea in one gulp, angrily slammed down the cup again and stormed out of Puqi Shrine.
Hua Cheng grinned. “I can’t believe this actually worked.”
“He didn’t deny that he has a crush on Feng Xin, either,” Xie Lian chuckled then poured another cup of tea for himself and Hua Cheng.
*****
Mu Qing rammed his fist on the door of Feng Xin’s golden palace, yelling, “Open up, you bastard!”
Crushing the whole thing down was a last resort but if anyone doubted that he would dare to do it, they were horribly wrong. Feng Xin had three more minutes left before his beautiful palace became one with the ground.
Who did he think he was? Giving unneeded advice, taking Mu Qing for a naïve fool then refusing to see him and sulking. It was way too unreasonable even for someone as stupid as Feng Xin. Just what the hell was wrong with him? Fucking dumbass making him think about him and worry. He totally deserved having his door bust down.
“What are you doing here?” Feng Xin’s voice came from behind and Mu Qing turned around as fast as a strike of lightning.
Turns out Feng Xin wasn’t home…
In any case, Mu Qing stomped his way over and unceremoniously punched him in the face.
Feng Xin flew a few meters back but it only took him a second to jump up to his feet and yell, “What the fuck was that you bastard?! Did you finally go insane?!”
Mu Qing caught up to him and grabbed him by the collar of his robe with two hands. “It’s the least you deserved, you shithead! Try avoiding me again and I’ll beat up your sorry ass!”
Feng Xin looked away and spat through gritted teeth, “You didn’t seem like you need my company…”
“What?” The rusty clogs in Mu Qing’s brain turned around and around before a light bulb suddenly lit up. The fists around Feng Xin’s robe loosened and his eyes widened. “Don’t tell me you’re jealous…”
Feng Xin’s cheeks reddened and his voice faltered for a second. It was only a minuscule gesture but it was more than enough for Mu Qing. “W-why would I be jealous?!”
“Are you scared of me replacing you with the newbie?” he taunted.
“Fuck you, I don’t care who you’re hanging out with.”
“If you don’t care then why are you avoiding me?”
“Because I don’t want to see your stupid face!”
“What if I want to see your stupid face?”
“What?”
Feng Xin saw a flicker of light passing through Mu Qing’s dark eyes and in the next moment, he felt a pair of lips press firmly against his own. His mind was wiped clear in that second and he only regained his senses when the absence of the warm lips left him with a sense of need.
“W-w-w-what the fuck was this??”
“A kiss, idiot,” Mu Qing rolled his eyes.
“I’m asking why you k-k-kissed me?”
“Isn’t that obvious?”
“Fuck, Mu Qing would it kill you if you used your words for once?”
“Would it kill you if you used your brain for once?”
“…”
Mu Qing sighed, “Anyways, you don’t have to worry about Mo Huan anymore so stop avoiding me.”
“What happened?” Feng Xin got successfully side tracked. His brain was really too simple.
“Left him in a forest in the mortal world after beating him up,” Mu Qing shrugged, his grin reappearing by the sight of Feng Xin’s gaping. “What, I told you I can deal with him myself.”
“But weren’t you guys getting along? You said he’s less annoying than me?”
“Feng Xin, literally everyone is less annoying than you.”
“F-“
“But at least you’re not insufferable…” This time, it was Mu Qing’s turn to look away as a blush crept up on his face.
Feng Xin stared at him, completely dumbfounded before his cheeks also took on a pink hue as he slowly realized that this, in fact, was the nicest thing Mu Qing had ever said to him. He couldn’t stop his heart from fluttering.
“What’s the stupid grin for?”
Feng Xin quickly cleared his throat and muttered a “nothing” but for some reason, he couldn’t quite wipe the smile spreading on his face even wider. In the end, Mu Qing’s embarrassment got the better of him and he promptly decided to leave.
Seeing his retreating back, Feng Xin collected himself and jogged up to him, saying, “No need to be embarrassed, I like you too.”
“Shut up.”
Feng Xin followed Mu Qing back to his golden palace.
“Do you really like me, though? I mean... you don’t really... like people...” Feng Xin said, closing the door behind himself and meeting Mu Qing’s glare head on.
“You know what, I don’t really mind if you ignore me. Get out of my palace.”
“No way, you already kissed me.”
“So what?”
“So there’s no turning back. Finish what you stared.”
“It was you who started by being stupid and jealous.”
“That’s not the point.”
Mu Qing felt a headache coming up. “That’s exactly the point. You were a jealous sulking little bitch instead of using your nonexistent brain to figure out that I’m not a dumb 10 years old who’s so easy to fool.”
“Who are you calling a sulking little bitch?” Feng Xin’s short fuse was once again ignited.
“Do you see anyone else here? Are you not only brainless but also blind?”
“Shut the fuck up!”
A glint flashed in Mu Qing’s eyes. Arguing with this man was really the best thing in his life. It was fun, it was interesting to examine his reactions and the way his expression changed, it kept him on his toes, it made him feel excitement instead of apathy and disgust. Above everything, it was comfortable. The two of them had been at it for more than 800 years without a break, they knew every single one of the other’s buttons to push. They were on the same level so neither of them got hurt and even if it escalated to a fight, they could just fight it out and release stress without having to worry about gravely injuring their opponent. For Mu Qing, Feng Xin was just the perfect partner.
So when Feng Xin told him to shut the fuck up, he only smirked and said two words, “Make me.”
And as if it was all according to a script, Feng Xin grabbed him by the collar and smashed their lips together. The kiss was messy, their teeth were clashing but it was filled with unsaid passion and a weird sense of comfort.
It was only then that they could confirm what they had begun to feel already.
They’re feeling the same for each other.
They’re dealing with those feelings in a similar way.
They finally understand each other without words, and they could understand the hidden meaning behind each word.
That whatever they had to give, the other would accept it readily.
That they were equals.
*****
“Gege, they started making out,” Hua Cheng reached out a hand to show Xie Lian the image the wraith butterfly displayed. Xie Lian stared at it for second before smiling.
“It was time.”
Hua Cheng quickly dismissed the butterfly and pulled Xie Lian into his arms. “Gege’s so kind and patient for helping those two fools, they don’t deserve you.”
“I didn’t do anything. If anything, it was you who gave them a little push.” Xie Lian’s eyes sparkled with fondness. “So, that means you’re kinder and more patient than me.”
“...” Left speechless and embarrassed, Hua Cheng opted for capturing Xie Lian’s lips, feeling quite content with how everything turned out.

Goodbye, Jin Guangyao (part 2)
Part 1
Years earlier-
Xichen’s body was too warm, and heavy, but Yao wasn’t willing to move him. In the street below was the sound of a brawl, a man yelling and the thump of a body. Xichen didn’t stir, after all this time his body used to the noises around the brothel in the early hours of the morning - either that or their earlier activities had worn Xichen out.
Yao looked at the tiny window above, there were no stars, just blackness, the building across the street was taller, the roof blocking any starlight just as it blocked light during the day.
Yao had only spent two nights at Cloud Recesses, all cool, quiet and green, seemingly a lifetime before it had been burned to ashes by the Wens. The windows there had been large, welcoming in green nature, and at night, with the backdrop of Huiasang soft snores he’d been able to see the stars, so distant but very bright.
Yao missed it. He knew Xichen missed it more.
As if the man had heard his thoughts, Xichen stirred slightly, and Yao gently stroked his hair and Xichen stilled, his head still a weight on Yao’s chest. . A surge of affection so large he didn’t think it was possible surged in his chest and Yao had to blink back tears. His Xichen-ge. The one who had been so patient whilst trapped in this tiny room for months, tolerating the stench of too-strong incense covering the decay of the brothel, the lack of exercise, the boredom. He stared out the black window again, his fingers now carding Xichen’s thick hair.
Yao should be sleeping. Tomorrow he'd leave. His mind ticked off all the things he had to do, the people he had to talk to, the network he’d built up over the last few months to get to this moment. He’d enter the Wen main palace, he’d infiltrate and give the other side as much information as could find. He’d protect Xichen the only way he knew how and, maybe, just maybe he’d prove himself to his father and be recognised. And finally, finally, Yao could fulfill his mother’s most cherished wish.
Yao shut his eyes tight, unconsciously his fingers clenched in Xichen’s thick hair. His hair was so soft. A sudden image, he could kill him, snap Xichen’s neck like this - it was a heady thought. He had the leader of a major sect trusting him so much. It was terrifying, it was exhilarating.
When Xichen looked at him, Yao felt pure. For that time he could pretend he was perfect, noble and as good as Xichen seemed to think he was. Yao had never thought that possible. To feel so clean, light and free. It would be nice to live in that moment forever, just him and Xichen. Yao could forget about his plans, his father, his childhood, all the pain and insults he’d suffered, the blood on his hand and just be Xichen’s perfect love forever.
As if to remind him of that impossibility he heard the pained cries of a woman a couple of floors down, a rough client. Cruel reality. Yao squeezed his eyes shut, glad that Xichen was asleep and not hearing the cruelty. He couldn’t live in that perfect world with Xichen, but he could protect him the best way he could. Repay the man for making him feel clean and beautiful, if only for a little while.
Yao closed his eyes and slept.
Only to wake in what seemed seconds later to blinding pain in his head. A. He moaned, trying to move, but his arms wouldn’t, his wrists clamped down in some way.
‘He’s awake,’ a voice said to his left.
Yao opened his eyes, the room was thankfully dark, he didn’t think he could tolerate too much light, with the throbbing pain behind his eyes. Had the Wens found them, had they been captured? He had to know. He forced his eyes to open and focus, it was an awkward angle as he lifted his head. There were people in the room, but his eyes went to a familiar face. Xichen was standing next to a door, dressed in rich Lan sect leader splendour.
Xichen’s face was blank, his eyes giving away nothing. Fear surged in him. Something was terribly wrong.
‘Xichen-gege?’
Next: Meng Yao has to reckon with all that Guanyao burned irreversbily form his mind while Xichen is distant. Lan Xichen has to reconcile his tangled feelings, and Huisang just wants Meng Yao dead. Nothing is easy, and there will be pain.

y/n becomes a real baddie when she’s pissed off 😫
hmm y/n wasn’t really working hard for her dad’s attention, it was more like she felt so left out and unwanted (she feels unwanted wherever she goes) that she just decided to pack up and support them from afar bcos to her, she’s so alienated in her dad’s family that she felt like she had to work hard to earn a spot in their table. she knows she’s the outsider but she wants to feel like she can be part of them, that she is also a child deserving of love and care, but becos her stepmom focused more on her actual kids and her own dad was too busy with his new family now, it made y/n feel that she had to do something to be worthy of that.
that’s why most of the money she made working in tokyo was still wired to her family; she put her brothers in school and supported them, all because she hoped it would make them accept her more. now, things are different because she finally found her biological family, but even if valeria and co. still don’t want her, y/n is now more focusing on building something that’s truly hers that no one can take away. yes yes, she did become greedy, but more for power than of acceptance. she got to a point she doesn’t care as much vying for her parents’ approval and now thinks her luxury gives her comfort; only because at least she has that much. like she said in the latest chapter, happiness was not what she needed, it was stability and money - all things she lacked before.
and yea she did go back to her roots! all of her issues started with her dad anyway but that part is slowly patching up 🩹💔 oooh actually your theory is right bestie 🧐 gojo found y/n interesting bcos she reminded him of mia, so the more she pushed him away, the more he’s like wait, i’ve been here before, let’s not repeat past mistakes but i can do better now. on the part where gojo talked to mia while she was asleep, notice how he said he’s given a second chance to do better now, all because he couldn’t do them with mia but he could with y/n.
ohhh actually y/n was the one who established that ‘fulfilling mutual need and settling for familiarity instead of being lonely’ type of relationship. gojo avoided her for weeks and he’s pretty settled in keeping his distance, but she was the one who sought him out. deep down, y/n is afraid if she doesn’t at least use him as an anchor to her more humble roots, then she might spiral out of control and end up like valeria, thus using him as a ‘distraction’ but in reality, she needs his comfort to be grounded.
SECOND LEAD AGENDA OMG LETS GOOO 🏃🏻‍♀️🏃🏻‍♀️🏃🏻‍♀️ geto the fine fine option.
NO BESTIE MOMENT U MENTIONED LAWYER NAOYA I JUST KNEW I WAS GONNA SCREAM. okay but lawyer! naoya is so fine, i love his character so much bcos he’s a pure bean. originally, i was gonna make him an antagonist but i found he had more potential as a good, supportive character. HIS PEN SPIN HELPPP WHY COULDN’T HE JUST BEEN OUR BABY DADDY 😫 he pulls them fast spins bcos he’s nervous btw HAHAHAHA y/n can be quite intimidating and lawyer! naoya is sometimes too precious.
celebrity chef! sukuna is MEAN! he was pictured after gordon ramsay so lmao. omgggg sukuna being famous not only for his food but also his handsomeness 😳 he gets so cocky over how no one can get in his level while popping a battle of champagne, listening to ‘careless whisper’ while dancing to his reflection in the mirror 😤
also yoo supermodel! choso is THE hot shit 🥵 he’s so famous his schedule is packed for an entire year and a half and those are just for very selected brands and designers! ugh imagine going to work on the subway when you see supermodel! choso with rbf posing sexily and you swoon because he’s so sexy. plot twist that choso doesn’t know how to drive bcos as a kamo family member, they grew up with drivers taking them to and fro, so when his driver got sick and everyone else was busy, supermodel choso takes the subway himself and hides behind a face mask and cap while still wearing extravagant clothes that makes him stand out more. he does not have ‘subtle’ on his book at all.
and yeah people say he’s intimidating but its more his height and build + rbf! in reality, he’s just as soft and sweet as naoya, but both of them go into protective mode when someone they care about is being crapped on. and boy when they DO get into “what did you just say?” mode, better run away 🏃🏻‍♀️ supermodel! choso is also an heir to the kamo empire though not after the business, but he still has enough power to take you down in a second.
meanwhile, lawyer! naoya didn’t become this successful without being so savage yet composed he makes you question your entire existence before he drags you to court. lawyer! naoya is so scarily convincing that he can make you plead guilty even tho you did nothing wrong 💀
aaaah omg supermodel! choso LOVES babies actually! as the eldest child who looked after his brothers bcos the kamo parents are always away for work, being a father figure is so natural to him. i can picture him being the one who cries harder than gojo if the baby is born bcos he’s so excited, then reads poems to the baby before sighing that childbirth is such a beautiful thing 🥺
omg i know sweet n sour, the actresses are one of my faves tho i haven’t watched it yet! oooh they’re a nurse? i didn’t know that 🧐 i actually finish my short training in a week so i’ll be heading on to heavy majoring in psychology! wait bestie are YOU also a psych major 😳💕 oh and i see i see, sky castle *jots that down for future references* reckless actually has lots of significance in terms of the parents’ roles so i’m excited to see that! and aww thank you so much, can’t believe i made it in someone’s top three 🥺💕
HELP AHSKWKW i’m gonna call the best chiropractor in the world and send them gege’s way, i’ll cry a river if that’s what it takes to bring my boo back to life 😭 and noo baby the support already means a lot to me, i’m just happy to indulge in my hobbies and share it wih you all so thank you very much for everything 🥺 please take care of yourself too n have a nice day!! kith MWAH 💕

14 for some xie lian angst? Pretty please? Bonus points for him being trans
@zlodziej-wlasnej-tozsamosci there we go, I wrote a thing :-) it´s long and tumblr´s layout sucks so have a cut and I will post the link for the fic on AO3 too
Plain Brown Rice
Xie Lian should have known that a hydrangea bush would not be enough to conceal him from Hua Cheng for too long, his husband having developed a sixth sense for finding him by now if he even let him out of his sight at all. It was a testament of his bad luck making a reappearence that he had gotten separated from both of his husbands at the same time but this wedding was a big one after all, hundreds of fox spirits milling around the royal gardens of their Queen in a flurry of silks and fluffy tails, celebrating her Highness´beloved granddaughter´s wedding. And of course Hua Cheng would know immediately that he had been crying too, his happy smile at finding him after they had been seperated by the crowd instantly turning into a frown of worry. "Xie Lian..." Hua Cheng´s cold fingers are soft against his face, wiping away the moisture underneath his eye with the utmost care before kissing his cheek, "my love what happened? Why are you crying?" "Ah it´s nothing...", Hua Cheng´s gaze instantly turns hard and hurt, something that made Xie Lian cry never ´nothing´in his book after all and Xie Lian ducks his head slightly, feeling silly all over. "It really is nothing San Lang...I just, came here to be out of the crowd for a moment and overheard some people talking about us and I..." Xie Lian sighs heavily, closing his eyes as he tries to recount what happened for Hua Cheng. They had gotten seperated in the crowd and he had come here to the edge of the gardens in the hope of catching sight of one of his husbands from the outskirts of the wedding party, standing half hidden behind a luscious hydrangea bush, enjoying the scent of the blooming flowers when someone had started speaking on the other side of it. They clearly hadn´t seen him and Xie Lian was about to come out of his accidential hiding place when he heard his name being mentioned and froze. "That so called Dianxia, what´s his name? Xie something? Xie Lian? How boring...you really have to wonder how someone that useless and plain can manage to catch not one, but two supreme Ghost Kings at once. I mean that Kingdom of his has been gone for centuries now right, leaving nothing but rubble. If he wasn´t the one that chanced upon my sweet little niece and freed her from that trap years ago someone like him would never have been invited to her royal wedding like this, having such terrible ancestry. And they call him the scrap collecting God, whatever that is supposed to be...no proper title to his name, no estate, no power to speak of and on top of that he is as plain as rice, boring and bland." There is a giggle, high pitched and cruel. "No, like day old brown rice, boring and bland and ordinary, just good enough for peasants to eat. And surely nothing even close to good enough for the likes of Black Water and Crimson Rain. I mean that Chengzhu always had weird tastes, have you ever been to that town of his? Shameless I tell you. But you would expect more refinement out of someone like Lord Blackwater, he is a scholar after all with a proper education..and I sure as hell wouldn´t mind -him- waiting in my chambers at night I can tell you that." There´s more voices then hers, giggling slightly and suggesting even more unflattering monikers for Xie Lian, making the first one laugh again. The group had moved a little during their tirade and Xie Lian catches a glimpse of a magnificently made up, beautiful five tailed fox woman, covered in layers and layers of exquisite, translucent silks of all colors, sparkling with pearls and jewels and gold from the tip of her perfectly made up hair to her dainty little silk-clad feet and he suddenly wished he had allowed his husbands to make him up like this too, as much as he hated the confinement all that finery would have brought with it. They had put him into robes just as magnificent as this at first, clearly loving to dress him up in jewels and all kind of trinkets...but when it had been time to actually get ready for the wedding what had been waiting for Xie Lian had been two smiling husbands and a set of expertly made, but thankfully plain white robes instead of the finery. There were small, slightly off-white flowers woven into the hem and his sleeves, the same flower a small boy had gifted him so long ago and He Xuan had put his hair up in a simple bun, the crown they gave him plain silver with three small inlays in mother of pearl: The same small flower in the center, flanked by a fish jumping out of a wave and an intricately carved butterfly. His husband´s robes did match his too, He Xuan´s being his customary black with golden waves flowing along the hem and sleeves and Hua Cheng´s bright red, him forgoing his usual silver jewelry for woven, delicate silver butterflies. ´You looked so uncomfortable in all that fancy stuff we thought you might like this better´ and ´You are so beatiful already A-Lian, all this stuff would just make it harder to get it off later..ouch, what was that for Crimson Rain, you know I´m right stop pinching me..´ And Xie Lian had loved every single part of the outfit they gave him, simple but meaningful to the three of them...but some part of him still wishes he would have gone with the more elaborate robes they had prepared for him. At least he wouldn´t feel just as plain as he apparently was, small and unassuming and the part in him that could never stop to wonder -how- he had actually gotten so lucky to have not one, but two people fall in love with him as thoroughly as his husbands had. It was an old wound, but a deep one that feeling of being unworthy of kindness and affection that still plagued him from time to time and  that neither Hua Cheng nor He Xuan had yet managed to erase completely, no matter how much they showed their love for him. Xie Lian´s voice is small, knowing how -silly- the whole notion is, Hua Cheng and He Xuan -love- him, they show him with everything they do and say, a small crystal clear ring and a single, perfect black pearl around his neck the physical evidence of their adoration...and yet, he simply can´t get rid of that feeling of inadequancy. "They said I was plain...like day old brown rice, ordinary and boring. That I´m not good enough for you." "Who said that?" Crimson Rain Sought Flower´s voice is as sharp as his sabre´s blade, promising quick retribution and a painful death to anybody who dares belittle his one God...and even worse, make him cry. His eye scans the crowd as if he can find the perpetrator by pure will alone, killing intent bubbling up around him, making He Xuan look up in sudden alarm, rudely pushing aside a lady who had been trying to talk to him and immediately walking over, his own aura growing dark around him in answering worry. Xie Lian hastily wipes his eyes, grabbing for his San Lang´s sleeve. "Ah, please San Lang it doesn´t matter, it´s not of importance, I´m just being sensitive today, it´s probably just the wine haha.." Crimson Rain Sought Flower and Black Water Sinking Ships just raise their eyebrows at him, in unison, and it would be funny if both of them weren´t close to murdering a wedding party just because Xie Lian overheard an unhappy thing and couldn´t keep his mouth shut, He Xuan not even knowing what was going on, the sight of Xie Lian in distress enough incentive to follow Crimson Rain´s lead for him. Xie Lian can see the first heads start to turn and look at them. He had been hidden well enough behind his hydrangea bush that nobody saw him cry, but the surging power of the Devastations at his side is hard to cover up in a room full of magic beings...and it doesn´t need a proficient magic user for their displeasure and aggression being obvious. "Please my loves...I know you only want to protect me but it is their -wedding- , don´t ruin it because a single person in a hundred said an unkind thing.." It takes another second of suspense before Hua Cheng sighs and pulls him close with one arm, pressing a kiss into the soft hair on Xie Lian´s temple before resting his chin on Xie Lian´s head, not caring that anybody can see their display of affection. Neither does He Xuan when he leans in close for a kiss of his own, cold fingers slipping between Xie Lian´s warm ones. "Alright gege, but just because it is you asking...but we will be having a very serious talk about that whole "I am not good enough for you"-thing later." He Xuan twitches and his scandalized ´Who said that?´ exactly mirroring what Hua Cheng had exclaimed earlier would be funny too if it didn´t bring another spike of killing intent with it. This time it is Hua Cheng though who grabs for his sleeve keeping the other Devastation from doing something rash, like summoning his dragons in the middle of a wedding for example. "Calm down Black Water sheesh...Gege overheard someone talk shit about him and had another one of his ´I don´t deserve you´-moments hiding behind a bush." The sarcastic uncertone in his voice ruffles He Xuan´s feathers just enough for his focus to shift from ´100 easy ways to kill effectively and leave the Gods to sort out the innocent´ onto Hua Cheng...and only a long suffering, pleading look from amber colored eyes keeps him from tearing right back into the other Devastation. He is pretty sure that Xie Lian´s ´please don´t ruin the wedding´ includes fighting between him and Crimson Rain too. "..please, behave?" Xie Lian´s voice is tired with an undertone of love, like an overworked mother trying to keep her kids in check and both Devastations smile a little sheepishly, bending down at the same time to kiss him on the cheek, one side for each Devastation, finally getting a small giggle at their ridiculousness out of Xie Lian. When one of their hosts finally walks over, a young girl, barely into her second tail, clearly sent as a deliberately non-threatening envoy, carefully eyeing the Devastations at Xie Lian´s side his usual smile is back in his place. "Taizi Dianxia is anything the matter? The noble  Lords seem...distressed? Is there anything not to your liking?" Even at a wedding party full of fox spirits the two Supremes are still the most powerful beings in the room, aside maybe from the bride´s nine tailed, royal grandmother, so it stands to reason that everybody wants to keep them happy...including Xie Lian, who smiles apologetically at the young girl and bows slightly to her. "Ah I apologize. Your fantastic wine is a little too rich for me I fear and I was feeling a little unwell just now, making them worry. Please, don´t pay us any mind, it´s nothing a little fresh air won´t cure and my husband´s favorite hobby is fussing about me so I will be perfectly fine." The fox girl giggles a little at that, clearly relieved that nothing serious had happened and it was just a case of the Prince´s husbands getting worried over nothing. They exchange a few more polite words before she scampers away again, off to report to whoever sent her that nothing terrible was amiss after all. "Look at you Gege, lying without getting red in the face, I am proud of you." Xie Lian swipes at Hua Cheng for that, a soft blush covering his face at the gentle teasing as he grabs for his husband´s hand, dragging him along with He Xuan following them like a very black, protective shadow. "You are terrible, San Lang. And i am hungry, I did have a lot of wine which was probably a bad idea. Lets go find something to eat before all the good things are gone yes?" As usual, Hua Cheng is in favor of anything that makes Xie Lian happy having no objections to that...and He Xuan is always in favor of anything having to do with food anyway. Which is exactly what Xie Lian was planning on, trying to distract them from the anger he can still feel simmering in them. Hua Cheng does finally tell He Xuan what had actually happened, the other Devastation clearly as unhappy about it all as Hua Cheng but a soft pleading look from Xie Lian is enough for the moment for him to let go of it. And that´s where they´re staying for most of the night, close to the lavish spread of food arranged on a series of small tables, chatting to a never ending stream of relatives to the royal bride that Xie Lian saved, all wanting to have a look and a chat, at Xie Lian as well as his famous husbands. Mostly the conversations are pleasant, ranging from simply polite to heated discussions of some form of obscure poetry between the bride´s granduncle on her father´s side and He Xuan, who nearly stabs the poor old fox in the face with a half eaten bit of pastry forgotten in his hand when he tries to emphasize a point. It is testament to how passionate they are about that topic when He Xuan doens´t even so much glance at a laughing Hua Cheng and it needs the help of two more aunts to drag the granduncle away again before things can completely deteriorate. They finally managed to catch a moment of the bride´s time, silently chatting with her and her newly wedded husband when Xie Lian suddenly grows tense against Hua Cheng´s arm. And it doens´t take a genius to guess that the reason for this must be the new group of three who just joined their little conversation circle, a lavishly dressed and decorated five tailed lady -probably an older female relative of some kind to their bride- shadowed by what are probably her younger sisters. Hua Cheng´s brows draw together in a frown, his arm tightening around Xie Lian´s waist...until a sharp small tug at the back of his tunic brings him back to his senses. Xie Lian is slightly pale around his nose, softly shaking his head ´no´and thus confirming what Hua Cheng had suspected from the start: that these were the ones who had made Xie Lian uncomfortable enough to hide himself and cry. He Xuan seems to have noticed nothing wrong, still casually eating while pretending to be disinterested in whatever kind of topic the three of them were currently discussing with a slightly uncomfortably smiling bride...but Hua Cheng can see his golden eyes grow sharp as daggers, never letting the fox woman out of his sight. "..I just think this particular cut is so much more suited to bring out a lady´s advantages properly don´t you think? You are such a pretty thing you really should not be wearing such old fashioned rags...but don´t take my word for it then, let´s ask someone else.." She turns to He Xuan with a flourish, eyeing him in a way that makes it very clear that, while he was in fact very well dressed, she would vastly prefer him to be wearing nothing at all. "My Lord Black Water. You clearly are someone who has impeccable taste in fashion...what do you think about this new style of robe I am wearing?" Black Water finally looks up from his bowl, having been directly adressed after all, while the fox woman does a little twirl for him, very unsubtly showing off the way the fabric is draped around her full soft bossom, emphasizing her tiny waist and delicate throat to the fullest. Xie Lian can feel something in his throat constrict painfully at the display-plain, like day old brown rice indeed- gently pulling on Hua Cheng´s hand to please get him out of there when... "Vulgar." And then He Xuan turns back to his bowl, clearly done with the conversation and the flabbergasted woman in front of him paying her no mind at all anymore. Xie Lian is so surprised he has to quickly hide a smile behind a fake cough, while Hua Cheng can´t be bothered to conceal his laughter, not in the very least concerned about the cruelty of it. After all that bitch in front of them deserved that and a lot of things more, she should be happy that He Xuan was still on his best behaviour and didn´t tear into her more then he already had. She gapes at them for a few more minutes before turning around on her heel in a huff, her two sisters following her hastily as she takes her leave. Only when she has left does He Xuan look up from his bowl again, a sharp, satisfied grin showing his white teeth. "Unfortunately for her..," he scoops something up from his bowl with his chopsticks, slipping it into Xie Lian´s mouth and following up with a soft kiss as his husband starts chewing reflexively, "...plain brown rice is our favorite." Hua Cheng laughs at that, placing a kiss into his husbands soft hair before doing the same to He Xuan...and Xie Lian is sure there has never been a single bite of rice sweeter then the one currently in his mouth.

It’s Not So Bad (In LA): part two
“So.” Wei Wuxian perches on the couch arm. “The summer camp seems to be working out.”
They’ve ordered a pizza for dinner—the sweet luxury of pay day. Jin Ling has sauce all over his chin, and greasy cheese fingers. Jiang Cheng watches him rip two pepperonis off the top and stack them in his mouth.
“Yeah.” He sips his water. “You really like it, don’t you a-Ling?”
His nephew grunts through his mouthful. “It’s alright. Coach Xichen is too nice, though.”
Wei Wuxian lifts an eyebrow. “Too nice? How can someone be too nice?”
Jin Ling shrugs one shoulder. “He smiles so much. He makes us all share. He listens to all of Lan Jingyi’s stupid stories, even though he tells the same ones ove and over.” He scowls. “Lan Jingyi is stupid.”
Jiang Cheng snorts. “Big words coming from you.”
“What does that mean?”
Wei Wuxian cackles. “Uncle thinks you’re a clown!”
Jin Ling’s face screws up around his food. “But didn’t Wei-gege say Uncle was a fat—”
Wei Wuxian lunges across the table and slaps one hand over Jin Ling’s greasy mouth.
Jiang Cheng swallows his crust. “No, go on, a-Ling. Tell me.”
Jin Ling’s eyes flick between them. “Um.. He scoots back his chair. “I have to pee!” He runs down the hall and slams the door behind him.
Jiang Cheng glares. “What bullshit are you telling my nephew?”
“Ah-ah, our nephew, a-Cheng!” Wei Wuxian ducks under Jiang Cheng’s swing. “He just needs to know the truth is all!”
“I’ll show you truth, you big, mangy—”
They tussle, pulling hair and knocking plates until Jin Ling returns and squabbles at them for fighting.
The next morning, Jiang Cheng wakes early enough to catch Wei Wuxian in the kitchen. Coffee brews from their old Kitchenaid, filling the living room with cheap-bean-smell. Jiang Cheng wrinkles his nose.
“I’m taking a-Ling to camp.”
Wei Wuxian peeks up from under his bangs. “Oh? Have something to do afterwards?” He frowns. “I thought it was my turn to get groceries.”
“It is.” Jiang Cheng fiddles with the peeling edge of the countertop. “I’m going to just drop him off and come back before work.”
They stand in silence for a moment. The Kitchenaid beeps feebly and turns off.
A warm flush threatens to betray Jiang Cheng’s composure. He turns away, pinching at the behavior update Jin Ling came home with—a whole page of pen-written characters, signed at the bottom with elegant flourish.
Lan Xichen.
“If you say so,” Wei Wuxian sing-songs. “Should I get those loquats you like while I’m out, then?”
Jiang Cheng thumbs over the signature. “I don’t care. You’re the one that likes them, remember?”
“Hmm.”
He looks up. Wei Wuxian smiles back at him from the kitchenette, dark eyes bright.
“What?” Jiang Cheng demands.
“Nothing,” Wei Wuxian says, but he grins into his mug as he lies, and Jiang Cheng knows he’s been caught. “Shall I pick him up this evening, then? Before groceries?”
The idea of Wei Wuxian laying eyes on Lan Xichen makes Jiang Cheng want to hide in the closest dumpster. Or move back to San Francisco. Or both.
But he can’t be irrational. He has work; Wei Wuxian knows this.
“Do what you want,” he mutters, and lets the report fall from his fingers.
When they pull up to the Y—Jiang Cheng parks Zidian in the right spot this time—there aren’t too many kids. In fact, they’re a whole half-hour early.
Jiang Cheng likes to think this is a coincidence.
“Come on, a-Ling.” He pats his nephew’s leg. “Unbuckle. We’re here.”
Mianmian—because Jiang Cheng still hasn’t figured out her real name and doesn’t want to ask—sits at the front desk again. She looks up and actually beams at the sight of them.
“On time for Day 2!” She waves her pen. “That’s the spirit!”
“Er, yeah.” Jiang Cheng shoves Jin Ling in front. “Where’s today’s meetup for the 8-12’s?”
“Second door on the right.” Mianmian checks her monitor. “Looks like today is Morning Craft-Making! Have fun a-Ling!”
Jin Ling flushes an impressive shade of pink. “Thanks.”
The room in question is like a clown-house: bright tiles, walls covered in handprints, art tacked on every available surface. The smell of glue and paint hangs like nostalgic cloud; Jiang Cheng inhales deep and instantly is flung back to fifth grade when he painted purple dragons the whole year. They still have a few of them stored away. Somewhere.
Lan Xichen pokes his head out of a cabinet. “Oh! You’re early today.”
“Yes, Coach.” Jin Ling throws his backpack into a chair. “Uncle said we had to.”
Jiang Cheng flushes. “I, ah. I have work.”
Lan Xichen nods—and then he steps out fully from behind the cabinets and Jiang Cheng has to close his eyes for a moment. Nobody should look that good in an apron and sweatshirt. He even has the sleeves pushed up, baring muscular forearms, showcasing elegant fingers and a cute little friendship bracelet.
Jiang Cheng’s palms are starting to sweat. He crams his hands in his pockets.
“Well,” he forces out, “a-Ling. Are we going to have another good day?”
“Yes Uncle,” Jin Ling drones. He wrinkles his nose. “As long as Lan Jingyi isn’t here.”
“Now, now.” Lan Xichen puts his hands on his hips. How did Jiang Cheng never notice how nice his hips were? “Is that any way to talk about our family?”
And it’s stupid. Our family is decidedly not Jiang Cheng’s family. He knows this, so why is his face getting red anyway?
Jin Ling peers up at him. “Uncle, you’re all sweaty.”
Oh my god. Okay. It’s definitely time to go.
“I’ll just be.. Leaving.” He points towards the door. “Um. Have a good day, Jin Ling. Lan Xichen.”
Lan Xichen smiles with all of his perfect teeth. A dimple pops on one side. “Certainly,” he says. “You too.”
Jiang Cheng is totally a goner.
He floats on that smile all day. Nothing can bring him down. Not when Zidian fakes her own death on the I-5 freeway. Not when AAA informs him there’s a waiting time of over an hour. Not when he arrives to work late, and then has to spend extra time cleaning all the bathrooms by himself.
He has a dimple, Jiang Cheng thinks to himself. Oh god. He has a dimple.
He nearly drops his rag into the toilet.
Jiang Cheng floats on Cloud Nine all the way until he pulls into his shitty parking space and trudges up two flights to the apartment.
The living room light is on.
“Wei Wuxian?” He locks the door, toeing off his sneakers. “What are you doing awake?”
His adoptive brother should be asleep by now. Not that he follows a schedule—even with work, Wei Wuxian’s proclivities for late-night reality TV is well-documented—but it’s a Tuesday night, and Wei Wuxian usually opens Wednesdays and Fridays.
Wei Wuxian looks up from the table. “Oh, hey. Just..” He waves a hand. “Making a playlist.”
“At midnight? Don’t you have work tomorrow?”
His brother blows a raspberry. “It’s for somebody. I wouldn’t expect you to understand. Don’t you have, like, two friends?”
Jiang Cheng has one. It’s his brother. “So? Can’t you make that in the morning?”
“But I told Lan Zhan I’d have it done tomorrow.” Wei Wuxian sighs, twirling a lock of hair around one finger.
There’s leftover pizza in the fridge. Jiang Cheng doesn’t even bother with a plate. “Lan Zhan?”
Wei Wuxian has the audacity to blush.
“Don’t worry about it,” he mutters, which means Jiang Cheng should absolutely worry about it. But then: “Here’s Ling-er’s report from today.”
Jiang Cheng swoops to snatch it from his fingers. All smiley-faces again. Whatever black magic Lan Xichen has at his disposal, he’s doing some serious legwork with it. Jin Ling never gets along well with other kids.
Another wonderful day, he’s written at the bottom. How lucky for Jin Ling to have such a good role model! There’s a little waving stickman next to his name.
“So,” Wei Wuxian says. “Coach Lan Xichen, huh?”
Jiang Cheng gives him a look over the paper that would kill small birds. “Don’t.”
“What? I didn’t even say anything!”
“Yeah. Yet.”
“You’re such a sourpuss,” Wei Wuxian complains. “No wonder you never get any dates. Your aura repels people from a mile away.”
“What does this have to do with getting dates?” Jiang Cheng can see the gears turning in Wei Wuxian’s brain—no, they’ve already been turning. He just happened to walk in right at the end. “Wei Wuxian—”
“Jiang Cheng,” his brother mimics. “I think it’s time we try again.”
“‘We?’ There is no we in this! And I’m not going on any dates!” He crinkles the paper in his irritation and pauses to smooth it out again. “You’re delusional.”
“And you have a crush on the hot YMCA supervisor,” Wei Wuxian sing-songs.
“Do not!”
“Do too.” Wei Wuxian leans in, eyebrows waggling. “Come on. I would too, if I were you. Thank goodness I’m not, though—you’re bound to get premature grey hairs.”
Jiang Cheng’s eye twitches. “Do. Not. Meddle.”
“So you admit there’s something to meddle with?”
“Don’t you have a playlist to make?”
Wei Wuxian rolls his eyes. “I’m almost done! Don’t change the subject.” He leans in. “Picture this: you. Mr. Hunky Coach Man. On a date.” He pauses, considering. “A good date.”
“I don’t want to picture anything,” Jiang Cheng says. It’s a lie. He’s already picturing them on their second date. And their third. And when they adopt a dog together after he moves in.
“Uh-huh.” Wei Wuxian wags a finger. “I know you. If I don’t help out, you’ll be a sad, lonely hermit for the rest of your life! Come on, a-Cheng. When was the last time you went on a date? A year ago? Two years ago?”
Jiang Cheng knows when it was. A cold rush of something bitter seethes below his skin, poisoning his already-failing mood. He drops his pizza on the table. He’s not hungry anymore.
“Try five,” he snaps. “Some of us have bigger problems, you inconsiderate twat.”
He sees Wei Wuxian do the math. The way his eyebrows raise, and then fall. His lips part in a silent o, but for once, he has nothing to say. Jiang Cheng wishes he could call it a victory.
“I..” Wei Wuxian swallows. “I didn’t—”
“No, you didn’t,” Jiang Cheng snaps. “It’s all just a big, fucking game to you, is that it? My life isn’t one of your TV shows! At least one of us has to take care of Jin Ling, and if it has to be me then I’m fine with it. I don’t need you giving me shit while you’re off making playlists for random pieces of ass!”
“Lan Zhan is not a piece of ass!” Wei Wuxian snaps. He stands, lips twisting. “Just because one of us knows when to move on—”
“Move on? Move on?” Jiang Cheng lunges over the table and shakes him. “How can you fucking say that? Are you listening to yourself?” He sucks in a sharp breath and lets go. “Forget it. I’m going to bed.”
“Jiang Cheng, wait—”
He slams his bedroom door.
The next morning is rough. Jiang Cheng hardly slept. His eyes feel like someone’s kicked a whole sandbox into them. His body aches more than when Jin Ling accidentally gave him the flu. He almost wishes he were sick. Maybe then he wouldn’t have to leave his bedroom ever again.
But no. It’s a Wednesday, so there’s still a-Ling’s summer camp to go to.
“Uncle, you look bad,” his nephew tells him plaintively.
Jiang Cheng squints over his cup of coffee. Jin Ling blinks up from his bowl of Cheerio’s, the picture of seven-year-old innocence.
“Thanks,” he deadpans.
At least Wei Wuxian already went to work. There’s no morning awkwardness to deal with, no avoidance tactics Jiang Cheng has to employ. It’s just him and his nephew, alone in the apartment at 8AM.
Jiang Cheng looks at Jin Ling—really looks at him. He’s grown a ton over the past year, shooting out of all of his pants. His hair is getting a little long; Wei Wuxian will have to give him a trim soon.
Every day he looks more and more like his mother.
Jiang Cheng wonders what Jiejie would think if she could see him today. Would she be happy with the way they’ve raised her son? Would she scorn them for living like this? What would she do in this situation?
A-Cheng. I know you’re not good with words, but you have to apologize.
For what? I didn’t do anything wrong!
Maybe not. But isn’t it best to mend the bridge before it breaks?
His fingers curl tighter around his coffee mug.
“Come on, a-Ling,” he says. “It’s time to get dressed for camp.”
☁️
It’s Pool Day.
It’s Pool Day and nobody warned Jiang Cheng about it being Pool Day, because what happens on Pool Day but the most beautiful man on Earth walking around in tight swim trunks and a tank-top? With sunglasses?
His long hair is twisted into a messy bun. His arms are defined enough to make a sculptor weep. And his collarbones—
Jiang Cheng likes to think he isn’t a weak man, but sometimes? There are exceptions.
“Coach!” Jin Ling shrieks. “Look at my swim trunks!”
They’re bright yellow with little elephants. Lan Xichen beams.
“They suit you,” he says. “Very bright. Just like you!”
Jin Ling smiles wide enough to practically close his eyes. He tosses his backpack aside and immediately makes for the group of kids in the warm-up zone. In a moment, he’s merged into their group entirely.
It makes Jiang Cheng proud. He doesn’t know what Lan Xichen’s done to improve his nephew’s behavior, but it makes Jiang Cheng hopeful for second grade. He wants Jin Ling to grow up surrounded by love, by friends and affection. Seeing him do warm-up stretches with the other kids gives Jiang Cheng light.
Lan Xichen turns the loveliest shade of pink when Jiang Cheng tells him this. He even blushes all the way down his chest. Jiang Cheng is utterly delighted.
“I’m just doing my best,” Lan Xichen says. His honesty warms Jiang Cheng all the way to his toes. “I want them to feel like they’re really part of a family.”
“Yeah,” Jiang Cheng breathes. He follows Lan Xichen’s gaze to the group of laughing, smiling children. “I know what you mean.”
