the thing is whether or not katniss and gale/the people in the seam are intentionally coded as indigenous the amount of people who see their indigenous heritage in them is valid and the amount of people who argue against them being indigenous are so weird (esp bc the thing theyre actually campaigning for is for katniss to be white and never seem to focus on the actual social commentary the people of the seam being indigenous could mean. their defense always goes to katniss's olive skin and grey eyes.)

#also i feel like its important to mention to keep in mind indigenous stereotypes if youre also non indigenous #and thinking abt them being an intentional piece of social commentary #not saying that the people of the seam being indigenous wouldnt be great or anything #bc it would be important and it would add a big layer of racial context with the difference between the seam and the merchants #but i think we should reflect on our unconscious biases towards indigenous people w this #notably with 1. the masculinization of brown women and the common analysis that katniss and peeta fall into #reverse gender expectations. 2. gale and katniss's anger and how anger is used against indigenous people #3. haymitch's alcoholism and the stereotype of the alcoholic indigenous american #4. the way prim and katniss are talked written and presented #thg
