Watched transformers with the family last night and I have opinions!! Mostly about Mikaela tbh. I just think she should have been the mc or at least gotten a spin-off or had the second movie be about her. She is just so much more interesting than Sam. You learn nothing about Sam the whole movie except that his great great grandpa was a cool explorer and that he wants a car. No backstory, no knowledge of his home life really other than he has jokey parents that bicker frequently and that he has a dog. He likes girls?? Literally that's all the personal information you glean about him. I guess he gets braver through the course of the movie as well.
Mikaela though? She has a full and interesting backstory. She was raised by her dad, they were poor, he stole cars, sometimes she stole cars with him, they were caught at some point, and she went to juvie while he went to prison. She is now out of juvie and attending a regular high school. Her experiences as a kid led to her having an interest in cars and mechanics. I know it mostly came from objectification, but with the way she dresses you can get a sense of her personal style; it has a very strong aesthetic. She even gets a bit of a character arc starting off as a pretty shallow individual who doesn't seem interested in anything but herself, and by the end of the movie she has formed meaningful relationships with Sam (at least on her end) and with Bumblebee (to the point she risked her life for him in the final battle and helped him take down a 'Con). All of this points to her being intelligent and caring and brave. She is cool!!!!
And then movie two comes around and she gets dropped like a rock :/ I get why Megan Fox would want to separate herself from the franchise. They clearly didn't treat her well, and only wanted her for male gaze eye candy, but it sucks. Mikaela was very interesting and I think they could have done something really neat with her, but instead they went for the "everyman self-insert fantasy" because who would want to watch a robo smash-up gore fest with a female main lead.
#tf#I have lots of other thoughts about the bay-verse movies#but there are a lot of other people who can say it a lot better#mostly I am in agreement with the people that say optimus is the bad guy in these films#and clearly they aren't the highest quality movies#and they are racist and misogynistic and classist etc etc#but if you just want to watch some big robots beat each other up for a few hours they do that very well#and they have starscream 😌 what more could you want#(well I could want Mikaela to be given a better story but you get my point)

So which is it? Did Bruce treat everyone like that or was he only super mean to Steph bc of the writers? Like I’m tired of the excuses being made, if it was one and done whatever but the way Bruce treated steph did impact her story and then changing stephs personality to golden retriever blond doesn’t change that at all lmao
#fans when the character flaws are socially unacceptable 😖😖😖😖#like yeah a lot of tim and Bruce’s writing did reflect racism classism and misogyny of the writers#that doesn’t make their impact on the characters they were talking to any less racist misogynistic or classist#and i genuinely think choosing to ignore it in order to preserve ur image of ur white fave whilst completely changing the way steph Duke#Damian cass etc. behave is more racist than the writing#this is just to me#to ME changing the things tim said and making Steph a ditzy Girlboss blond is more misogynistic than ANYTHING they could’ve written#at least they had a point where growth could happen and the possibility to give Steph a backbone#y’all just say tim is a coffee addict and go#and It’s the personality shifts that bother me the most#like this most recent Damian is ass sorry#like in canon making his relationship with Bruce good or closer than it actually was….#and ppl saying Bruce changed post death like no he hugged Damian once lmao#like that didn’t change a damn thing between them before#and if it was presented as codependency and trauma bonding whatever but it’s not they just act like he was always a difficult fave#which fuels racist fans who already thought that even more#yuck#and every single personality shift that happens is to prop Bruce up and by extension tim bc the meanest thing dc does to him is nothing#like y’all think tim is most hated NOT true#he’s badly written in the sense that his personality becomes being the perfect soldier for Bruce#which y’all play into by doing the same shit downplaying everyone else but making him pissed about it#get real#if I see another fic or hc about how Damian actually can’t withstand torture or needs Tim’s help to hack smth 😭#y’all can’t stand that Damian IS talented it’s so sick like his whole issue is that he’s a kid with kid emotions who knows how to do all#this shit and mentally knows he ‘should’ behave differently and fails in an effort to go towards that bc he doesn’t take him still being a#kid into account UNLESS it’s an advantage. saying ur a better writer than dc by saying Talia was play fighting? ok…#when ppl are like ‘Talia/Ra’s would never respect a kid enough to do XYZ…’ THATS THE POINT!!#anyways sorry tiktok vid pissed me off this went everywhere

beginning to really feel like the ubiquitous hatred of men IS inherently tied to racism. just look at the things people point to as why PoC are "scary" and it's usually because of a perceived proximity to "mannishness" and all that entails. it's getting harder and harder to not see a desire to protect the "fragile and feminine" as inherent to whiteness and white supremacy especially when taking into account how femininity is defined. like even setting aside how casting All Men as inherently dangerous or threatening will ultimately cast men of color and other marginalized men as these things, thus reducing their access to spaces, safety, resources, and rights. but i just can't convince myself that "all men are bad" isn't inherently rooted in racism itself, not just a consequence of racism because it might hit men of color as collateral
when you consider then also how in fundamentalist and evangelical christianity (and just christianity in general) male desire is seen as inherently evil and to be regarded with suspicion, the erection is the work of the devil, etc., and how core to white supremacist culture that christianity is... idk this isn't very coherent but i hope it makes some sense
i just really think systems of race require gender segregation to operate as they do and so any reinforcement of ANY gender segregation is going to ultimately further racist causes
Well, my belief is that all oppression circles back onto itself like a giant ouroboros. White supremacy, patriarchy, ableism, classism, all of these hook back together in both obvious and also very subtle ways. I was talking with a Jewish friend last night about how I don't think I've ever heard an antisemite speak that wasn't also antiblack. Including black antisemites. I don't think I've heard an antiblack person speak that also wasn't filled to the brim with sexism. I don't think I've heard a sexist person speak that wasn't also ableist. I don't think I've heard an ableist person speak who wasn't also classist. And I don't think I've ever heard a classist person speak who wasn't also antisemitic. They're all connected. Every single one. Most homophobes are deeply misogynistic, most misogynists are also transphobic, and so on.
I think this also hooks directly back into the theories of intersectionality and CRT, because for so long we have stagnated discussing how these are all completely separate and individual social phenomena when really most of the time where one stinks they all reek. These are all systems upon which society has built itself up in layers, and the reason it's so difficult to fix is because they are all hooked into each other and so you can't wiggle one piece free without toppling the whole tower. The tower still has to come down, but it's sure as hell going to put up a fight getting there.

Looking back on Twilight criticism is so funny because mainstream crit (that I saw anyway) was all focused on "Ew girls like it" when literally the ENTIRE BOOK NEEDS CRITICISM IT STARTS WITH A CREEPY DUDE WATCHING A GIRL WHILE SHE SLEEPS AND WHEN SOMEONE ASKS "How much racism will Smeyer add?" SHE ANSWERED "Yes."
Exactlyyy. White ppl will like hide behind any type of marginalization they face (like misogyny, homophobia, etc) when they wanna dodge either being accused of racism, or things they like that are racist & being critisizes for that racism, even when said marginalization has nothing to do with it.
Twilight itself is an extremely misogynistic book, where it places White women as the ultimate standard of femininity, particular thin rich White women who are stay at home moms, home makers, etc, and places all other women as not as good or "pure" as them. Bella at 17 literally looks after her dad and cooks and cleans for him. Leah is demonized as a Native woman for literally no reason & gets used as a punching bag throughout the film & books. Abortion is seen as "murder", even when the fetus is slowly killing the mother & clawing its way out of her. There's more obvi but those are just a few examples.
But even if you ignore the racism or misogyny (which you shouldn't) it also romantisizes abuse, what with Edward fitting ALL "signs that your partner is abusive" ticks.
If you ignore the romantisization of abuse, it's also classist: the Cullens are upheld as this angelic set if vampires who are literally billionaires, and could go any fucking place in the world, but they decide to go to the one place they agreed not to go near (due to a treaty with the Quileute Forks) & where they were literally already colonizers who disrupted & harmed the Native population & where they're a threat to the Quileute & they go there for no reason. Edward replaces Bella's old car that her dad & Jacob had fixed up for her (which she had already stated to adore, one reason being that she has an interest in old things) with a sports car, purely to one up Jacob. They all drive various sports cars & Alice routinely wears & throws out clothes. They're held up to this romantisized standard against Bella & the Quileute tribe's middle to lower class status, & this is meant to be another point of why Edward is supposedly better than Jacob (because he is rich).
If you ignore the classism, racism, & misogyny then there's also the weird Mormon ideology literally baked into the entire series, & it can be considered essentially Mormon propaganda. The Native characters are demonized, obviously (considering Mormons literally think Native people are evil). None of the vampires have tattoos but all the werewolves do, & according to the lore, any and all tattoos get removed after becoming a vampire (which is what Mormons believe happens to tattoos in their afterlife). In the books, any poc who become vampires become pale regardless of their skin color in life, & again, this is what Mormons believe happens to poc who become Mormons & enter the afterlife. The whole "no sex before marriage" thing & the abortion thing. Bella & a lot of the other non-demonized female characters dress pretty conservatively, & Edward finds a full length skirt sexy & "indecent". The (white) vampires are repeatedly compared to "angels" & called beautiful & perfect. Other non Christian, non-Mormon religions (& the people that belong to/practice them) in the series are routinely demonized & mocked. Vampirism, but namely for the White characters, is literally an allegory for White Mormons in heaven.
If you ignore all the above and a bunch of other bigoted & weird shit in the series that I haven't yet mentioned, then it's genuinely just very dumb & badly written with stupid logic. Bella thinks it's weird how the Cullens all have really old names when HER name is literally "Isabella Swan". The Cullens literally hate the Quileute & "werewolves" for no fucking reason since they literally trespassed on Quileute land as colonizers in the 1800s, & it's already been established that the shapeshifters aren't even actually real werewolves in the lore so therefore they have no inherent quarrel with them based on the vampire vs werewolves thing, so they just hate them for no reason. The vampires keep going to high school & learning the same shit over and over again when they could be going to COLLEGE or idk doing something productive. Jasper apparently has to teach the Natives how to fight so obviously Smeyer has never seen a rez fight. Jasper is considered a "newborn" even though he was literally turned in the 1860s. Bella gave her kid the dumbest name ever. Ppl have been memeing & making fun of this series since it came out, & I feel like it's hypocritical for twilight fans to both say "ppl only hated it because girls liked it but its actually really good!" While also saying they find it hilarious even the actors made fun of it & hated making it because of its many faults (like so you agree? People made fun of it even back then?) And while also saying they "enjoy it critically" meaning. They admit there's something wrong with it, but still get mad when ppl critisize it.
#twilight anger on main#long post#& of course a lot of all its problems intersect with each other#ESPECIALLY the racism

I'm so tired of seeing people trying to name check the Perfect Privileged Person to beat on. Just grabbing terms in a vacuum to make a guy that's the most punchable possible. Do any of you even care about the harm that does? Conflating rape, misogyny, racism, homophobia, transphobia, etc. with a caricature exclusively made from unchanging external traits? I'm not seeing anyone support saying anything like "women are scum" for TERFs and RFs existing, but add white to it or cis and I'm sure you are only punching up now. You can't just decide a skin tone, gender, or orientation is good or bad and then yell at that group and expect anything good to come of it. I'm sure saying "white racist" or "male misogynist" or "female sexists/classist" is just too hard and saying straight men or white people or whatever TOTALLY gets the point across better and doesn't collaterally damage the fuck out of trust between people and communities. I'm sure none of those people you lump together have systemic problems or face bigotry; very based.

Something adjacent to a "DNI" / "BYI" post, but the first is useless, therefore this counts more of a guideline/keeping-track-of-stuff post. Please proceed with caution, as multiple distressing groups (&& topics) are mentioned.
⠀
⠀
Before anything else, I'd like to state (similarly to the first tag on this post) that I do not particularly take DNI lists seriously (namely for myself, me-using-them in specific). I will block liberally, and if you don't smell like an ass, you might be easily able to be near me while mentioned below. Naturally, some things are "dealbreakers" for me, and I will punt you (on sight) to the sun itself. Do know that so long as you are a polite and/or kind person I will most likely not care about your stances — given you're not insane over discourse, that is. Alongside that, I will also be very clumsy with keeping track of this, so a heads up is always appreciated if you gotta — otherwise, block me yourself, curate your experience.
⠀
Below are a handful of things that might be reason for people to turn around and/or block. This is not extensive, and may be updated in the future.
⠀
I am significantly impulsive (though this has come to be way better than in the past, it's still here), I am sensitive/sensive albeit able to control my reactions to things (though not perfectly), I may have a short fuse with some things in some moments (and then extremely patient as well, in other moments), I have and will make mistakes with my wording in general && towards people (disability + not native english speaker), I can be extremely blunt to the point I may sound rude or obnoxious (it isn't intentional, keep that in mind), I do not tolerate people being shitty towards anyone (including myself), I do not accept binarification and policing of people's experiences-labels-existences (heavily), I am against radical ideology of any kinds (I'm looking at you, radfems. if youre a bioessentialist you should give up entirely), I am an anarchist and I do not like political figures no matter if they claim to be liberal or leftist (there should be no left VS right, only people VS authority).
⠀
⠀
Anyone falling under any of the following categories will be most likely blocked on sight, as well as potentially reported depending on the case. This isn't a "DNI", this is just a list of things/groups/stances that are repulsive to me. The following sectors are separated for the sake of organization, and not in order of importance. This list is not extensive and may change over time.
⠀
✦ — A — rad‐‐queers/xeno‐‐satanists, rad‐‐fems/exclusionary "feminists"/febfems/"golden star" idiots/tradfems/many libfems, exclusionists of any kind (including those against clashing labels & good-faithed, authentic identification), racist and/or xenophobic (anti-black, asian-hating, islam-antagonizing, nazi‐punks, indigenous‐dehumanist, eugenist, colorist, zionist, et cetera), bioessentialist/gender essentialist/sex essentialist/genitalist/the like (INCLUDES LINKING TRANS EXPERIENCES TO CERTAIN BIOSEX CHARACTERISTICS OR GENITALS, AND THOSE WHO UTILIZE TERMS LIKE "TMA"/"TME" IGNORANTLY), [inter]sexist, [trans-/bi-] misogynist [-noir], ableists/sanists (e.g.: uses the R word against others regardless of "being able to reclaim", narc/borderline abuse believer, capitalist, etc.), classist/elitist, (often) the high class(es), reactionary imbeciles, supportive of cops/against ACAB, cringe culture believer, those who don't question authority figures, uses the term "degenerate" casually (eugenistic origins; i don't mind if it's consensual kinky shit or reclamation though) ;
⠀
✦ — B — speaks over trans men & transmasc voices ("doesn't believe" in their unique form of oppression, whatever term is used for that), speaks over complex/"confusing" identifying (EXISTING) queers, any sub-community gatekeepers of queer experiences ("xyz term is label exclusive!", which is frequently BS; culture-related labels aren't included in this), political lesbianists/"gold star" bullshit (puritism, sex shaming, dehumanization DOES NOT FIT with feminism, lesbianism and sapphism), label/experience cops & pro-cops at pride ;
⠀
✦ — C — medical field bootlicker (it is filled with eugenics and intersexism), neutral/uncaring about the ongoing horrors in the world (any and all countries/peoples involved!!), syscourser*, against self diagnosis (which is classist, racist, etc.), self-diagnosed with unproper research, casually uses disorder/condition terms as a joke, appropriates group-specific/medical language, vivzmedia & funamusea supporter (idc about pfps or art usage but i am wary/weirded out by certain character choices), proshipper/comshipper/"darkshipper" & antishipper/shipwars (harrassment over ships is fucking goofy, but so are "uwu" abusive ships), flop/annoying humour accounts (don't take this to heart), people who do not even try to be kind/respectful/decent in any sort of situation (this hasn't to do with empathy or anything similar). — I CAN SEE YOU — ✦
⠀

❕️ * — I physically cannot care about syscourse, as it drains my psychological and physical wellbeing; I have mixed opinions on it, and I'm majoritarily against (potentially or fully) dangerous practices. This includes but is not limited to: selling alters, "syshopping", "giving alters" and much more. I am literally just in my zone; i'm a —1A having individual; I theoretically fit under "traumagenic" and "median", if that matters at all.
I am also not positive towards tulpas && similar practices, due to how these communities are very often racist and appropriate culture — this doesn't count towards general spiritual practice, and specifically is aimed at cultural appropriation. additionally, I do not use the term system for myself OR for those with DID/OSDD1/UDD — i use plural, multiple, and pw(DID/USDD1/UDD). I apologize if that bothers you but it's way better for me personally (and for antis: "system" is a endo-inclusive term abranging more than just DID/OSDD/UDD, disorder-wise.).
IN SHORT, anyone can interact regarding this, but I will block if i see sketchy shit — do not bring such discourse, or any discourse, near me. I dont care if you involve yourself in it, and I will ignore your posts about it like my life depends on it (my health does). I also wholeheartedly believe in/agree with the "FUCK THE MEDICAL SECTOR" sentiment, for it is full of eugenism and intersexism — what we currently know is hanged above our heads.
⠀
⠀
Thank you for reading, and have a marvelous day. Make sure to take a sip of water and eat something. May grace accompany on your journey. ^,.,^
⠀
#NOTE: i don't really use DNI lists seriously. at least for myself lol#chances are some things here arent all that important to me. but still irk me#anyways. yeah#𓏵⠀unsorted trinkets⠀♡#trigger warning#content warning#bloody mess tag#<- for the topics. pls mute this tag to ensure u dont see distressing stuff immediately :'D#buhgposting#buhggytalk#long post

I think you’re being a little too generous toward people with “bad takes on Goodreads” given that the people being dunked on are largely white Westerners whose complaints about, for instance, racism or sexism are just as often that a book by a POC or a woman didn’t talk about race, colonialism, gender, etc. in *the exact way they are told to talk about it on Tumblr*, or are mad that books set outside the West don’t constantly hold their hand about those cultures and might require them to look up a location or historical person in an encyclopedia. Those aren’t people who are bravely critiquing literature that snooty Tumblr people who just want to defend their fav books don’t understand, they’re incurious people who don’t actually care about social justice or liberation except to justify their own ignorance. And sometimes none of these issues are even relevant to the review at hand, like the most recent viral one about Metamorphosis where the person just doesn’t want to engage with the idea that the book is not literally about “a bug” at all. Literary analysis does have a lot of racist, misogynistic, colonialist, queerphobic, classist dynamics but let’s be honest about what the posts in question are actually about
first of all, I’d like to ask which post or posts this is about, in particular. please don’t make me guess when this is something that I’ve talked about on multiple occasions in the past—as has been recently reaffirmed for me, that’s a great way to waste everyone’s time 😅
second of all, I find it odd that you seem to believe I’m trying to present a complete picture of the culture on goodreads (or anywhere else that people outside of academia talk about literature), rather than what I’m pretty sure I’ve actually been trying to do—namely, to respond to some of the specific rhetoric that some people use to lambast non-academic discourse about literature (and, by extension and often in very personal terms, the non-academics who produce it), and to speculate about some of the potential implications or sources of that specific rhetoric. I don’t think I’ve said anywhere that anyone who criticises any layperson’s reading, on goodreads or elsewhere, of a work of literature, in any terms, is automatically reaffirming harmful ideas about “literacy,” “intelligence,” and the connexion of both to moral worth on an individual level.
I think you might benefit from reading this post, which makes it clear that what we’re talking about is not whether certain takes are “good” or “bad,” but rather whether it’s accurate, edifying, or ethically acceptable to use discourses of “intellect,” “intelligence” and “stupidity,” and “literacy” to disparage those takes. I also think you might find this post helpful, which addresses reactionary readings of literary works.
lastly, I really dislike the implication that I am somehow not being “honest”!

intro post
this is a side blog and any follows/likes will come from my main blog firelordslove (which you could probably tell by the name, is an ATLA blog).
this side blog was created in october 2024, after I started to watch south park and I wanted an outlet to get me thoughts, opinions and feelings out. I am currently making my way through the show and as I continue watching I will be making "analysis" posts on characters/relationships/storylines/etc.
please note that all my posts are my own thoughts. while I do like to research my posts and ground what I have to say in the text, you are free to believe whatever you want.
I have been in fandom spaces since I was 13 years old (I am currently 26), and therefore I know the nature of these spaces. I have been there for the highs and lows, for all the fights and shipping wars of various fandoms. I'm not new to this, I'm true to this and therefore, I am treating my new interest in south park casually. I am too old for fights and I will not be involving myself in or starting discourse (although if others involve me, I will not hesitate to reply).
as for "ships", I do enjoy style, bunny and creek. however, I do not see the problem with most ships (other than one I don't like but I will not engage with any shippers or posts that I see and dislike. again, treating it all casually). as long as no one is sexualising the characters as minors or are bigoted when creating fan work, everyone can do what they want (that does not include any proships, I’m not a pro shipper).
minors dni, I know it’s impossible to make sure of this and I will not be rb-ing NSFW content but this is just a precaution to protect everyone. I’m very much an adult and I don’t want to form any relationship with people younger than me. also basic dni criteria; racist, islamophobic, antisemitic, queerphobic, zionist, misogynist, classist, etc.
I am also on ao3, where I have written two style one shots, you can find my profile here. I am currently in the middle of writing a multi-chapter style hockey au and will be giving updates here. if you are interested in the journey, follow along.
lastly, if you have any questions, thoughts, feelings, opinions on south park just drop me an ask. I'm always here to talk.

Hello there! In the past few years I've been working on a Roblox myth. Why a few years? Because I couldn't decide on a story. Recently though, my friend and I have came up with one and I'm extremely hooked on this one. Many credits to my friend for helping me out with this. She really has some creative ideas!
Anyways, I'm here to ask that if there's anyone that would like to act in this myth, please DM me about it. (I'd like to add that I'm not so trustworthy on who gets to act so I'm sorry if I'm really picky. I also would like to let you know that this story might take years to actually start up since I have no knowledge on making games, and currently am in highschool, meaning I might have no time to work on this myth, so your patience is VERY much needed.)
This myth is about a fair that opened in 1987 and it was started by two twins in the Fraiser family. The fair is named The Fraiser Fair.
That's all I'm going to say. Thank you for reading this and thank you if you decide to try out for the roles I have in this myth.
The available roles for this myth are:
Ride operators(2)
Janitor (1)
Extras (Possibly.)
If you want any of these, DM me about it and I'll tell you more about the role and what would happen if you choose this role. I will also be doing tryouts for these roles so simply asking for the roles won't guarantee it for you FYI. Though I'm not so strict on acting on these since they're not too major. I WILL ALSO BE DOING BACKGROUND CHECKS! Not entirely like looking through your posts, but asking questions. (Mainly about if you're a proshipper or not, if you're supportive of the LGBTQ+, etc.) And now I'd like to say, if you're a zionist, homophobic, transphobic, xenophobic, proshipper/comshipper (or any immoral/illegal shipper), p3do, believe in toxic masculinity, believe that global warming doesn't exist, misogynistic, ableist, racist, classist, sexist, audist, and/or if you're discriminatory AT ALL, block me. I do not want you to be near me for you are the reason that this world is in shambles.
Once again, thank you so much for reading this whole post and I appreciate it a lot.

At least, Cersei is the one to refuse to go public with their incestous relationship and isn’t out there proposing to marry Myrcella to Tommen, unlike Saint Jaime who call his sister ‘queen of whores’, treat her as his property, and victim-blame her (I tell you, he [Robert] loves me not/And whose fault is that, sweet sister ?), and never spare a thought for Tysha (or Bran for that matter), but thats normal, its because he’s a feminist and teenage girl-coded. No wonder he has some sympathy for Criston Cole, lmao. Do people genuinely believes Jaime is a victim of patriarchy and that his gender doesn’t favor him over Cersei ?? Insane. Can’t wait for him to die. It’s 2023, Jaime isn’t Adam and Cersei isn’t Eve, dude is a misogynistic, racist and hyperprivileged white man and his father’s golden boy. Funny how you all talk like Green/Criston’s stans when it comes to Cersei and Jaime.
*EDITED POST* (9/21/23)
Probably from this recent post that itself has 3 links to other posts where I talk about Cersei as a character.
Um...when did I ever either imply or directly say that Jaime was "a victim of patriarchy and that his gender doesn’t favor him over Cersei"? Or express that he was better than his sister, morally? Or express that Cersei deserved to die more than he did?
Perhaps you have that impression because I never talked about Jaime exclusively once, or you're just going off of what you recently read and horribly misinterpreted the purpose and argument of that post. If the latter, I advise you to reread. If the first, I don't write about Jaime much simply because he doesn't interest me as much as Cersei or Tyrion, no one asked me my thoughts about him, and I'm not thinking of him apart from his relationship with Cersei or Tyrion. His knighthood and masculinity are...not "easy", but direct enough for me to not dwell as much as his other siblings' issues. (look to this post by blankwhiteshield about Jaime) I generally care more about women, children, and other marginalized people in fiction, even when I do sympathize with some white cis straight men some of the time.
I mean pre-Brienne Jaime. That's just how GRRm wrote his arc.
For me, blankwhiteshield's posts about Jaime HERE and HERE both suffice to give me a picture of who Jaime is bc they fill in some blanks I had in my pre-existing assessment of Jaime. Which actually wasn't favorable, anon. I find Jaime to actually be very annoying, and no, I do not think that he is Cersei's victim. He is deluded in some ways as much as her and is not a good person because of the abuse and emotional neglect they all get from Tywin/Westerosi society. I actually should have, since again, there were blanks. You can take a look at those links as well.
Look, Cersei is evil & abusive AS WELL AS a victim of domestic abuse woman & of misogyny since childhood. These are not mutually exclusive nor does it NOT mean that her domestic abuse only and directly caused her power-hungriness and need to control if not every, most aspect of her life and those she sees will help her get or maintain control and a good image of herself. Neither the abuse nor misogyny against her erases the fact that she develops hatred towards women, going so far as to violently and sexually objectify them like w/Taena. (Her using what she's observed men do to affirm power and copying it). Or that she pinched her baby brother's penis at a very young age, showing her classist and blase willingness to target children/one of the most vulnerable groups for her own sense of control over her husband, family, etc., and political power. She is also very willing to sacrifice/risk the entire city for her own control of power, similar to Aerys II. Cersei is complicated and there is nuance to her character, but she is unmistakably evil simultaneously. What I like about her or what I find compelling about her (if you haven't read the post about it) is that I can understand her motivations, and relate in some ways, and from practically babyhood she's been trying to be essentially "good enough" and perfect through external, social values of competency BUT also as someone has said: her need for perfection and power and total love comes across as pure in its own sort of twisted way. Her emotions are so intense and uncontrolled and she remains totally unaware of her loneliness that she comes across as childlike.
I also find it very funny how you're criticizing show!Rhaenyra for wanting to marry Jace to Helaena (I presume, you don't specify but that is the closest betrothal to the one you make b/t Myrcella and Tommen) when you say: "At least, Cersei is the one to refuse to go public with their incestous relationship and isn’t out there proposing to marry Myrcella to Tommen". Because while this would have done nothing to assuage Alicent--which was what Rhaenyra was trying to do--it was also not that bad of a deal for Helaena or Jace themselves. I personally dislike it bc, again, we're erasing Rhaenyra's relationship w/Laena and how she ever made it so that Jace married Laena's daughter...but I digress. OR you probably were referring to Jaime expressing the desire to go public with their relationship, that conversation? Again, what does this have to do with my argument in the post I recently posted and that I assume you're responding to?

How To Live Your Best Ace Life! |The Girlies are BREAKING social norms & gender roles| Ep22
https://youtu.be/gIwZgxsMufI?si=SjADeBz1wqCUJhC-
We are completing this social critique with part 4 to conclude the cautionary tale of trade wife delusions prompt up by regressive, sexist, chauvinistic. misogynist, toxic, patriarchal abusive INCELS. We’ve examine the trap of traditional housewife fantasy via Ballerina Farm who became viral for her trad wife content and being a cautionary helpmate example. We’ve discussed in Part 1 - Part 3 The Tell Tale Signs of patriarchal abuse disguised as traditional gender role normativity especially under christofascist racist sexist homophobic classist ableist patriarchy! By Queers specifically women and femmes living in their truth we dispel the myths of tradition in gender expressions, gender roles, and social markers!! QUEER Gen Z and young Millennial women/femmes take note! The girlies are QUEER and aren't living for the male gaze. The girlies are prioritizing their humanity for their authentic expression. From body hair, pixie cuts, nonconformity, LGBTQIA+ acceptance and rejecting cishet normative social scripts. This includes partnering (amatonormativity), child labor aka procreating (compulsory sexuality), and the 4B movement (refusing allosexuality/gender roles/cishet patriarchy as the default). Let's discuss why the girlies are queer and how queerness opposes hierarchal caste systems such as pickme politics/trade wife indoctrination/soft life aesthetics/hypergamy power plays etc. Full link to this video in the bio! The women in HP are so underrated and under loved it's a crime. I HATE how so many women with actual character in the books get overshadowed in favor of abusive, vindictive men who were canonically terrible people.
Narcissa? Fooled Voldemort in the forbidden forest and made a deal with a possible spy to keep her son alive, (and also fooling/defying Voldemort there too.)
Andromeda? Defies Her extremely murderous family by leaving and marrying a muggleborn. She hides Harry Potter in HER HOME and raises a child on her own after the Battle of Hogwarts. Fights in a war twice.
Bellatrix? Revered and feared witch who will not hesitate to kill you. Absolutely sadistic and we actually do see a character arc with her, however small.
Nymphadora? Auror, extremely powerful, fought in the order of the Phoenix, and married Remus despite him being a werewolf, ignoring literally all the social impressions/implications of that. Then she goes and fights in the battle of Hogwarts after just having a baby to be with her husband.
Lily? A muggle born witch who defied Voldemort three times and died for her son despite Voldemort being willing to spare her life. The absolute (and only) love of James's life, one of the best potioneers according to Slughorn. Assumed to have been recruited by death eaters according to Hagrid. How powerful must she have been for them to allow her, a muggleborn into their ranks?
Hermione? Literally the smartest witch of her age, constantly top of her class, ruthless and user of "cool logic" what most just turn to magic. Neither Ron or Harry would be alive without her. Literally trapped a woman in a glass jar and blackmailed her for an entire year.
Ginny? "Anything is possible if you've got enough nerve," was possessed by Voldemort and lived, fought at the battle of Hogwarts at 16 and dueled BELLATRIX LESTRANGE. Also dueled death eaters at the DofM at fifteen. She stole the sword of Gryffindor and defied the carrows for an entire year at risk to her life.
But do we hear about them? No. Instead we get to glorify the likes of freaking Regulus Black, Barty Crouch, and Draco Malfoy, all canonical racists and classists who joined Voldemort because they AGREED with him. Nine of them were forced. Regulus literally had newspaper clippings of Voldemort, Malfoy wished death on Hermione and other muggleborns more than once. Regulus literally tortured Neville's parents into insanity.
And then the fandom has the gall to ship characters with people who would (and did) HATE THEM. People would rather ship the mcs with their abusers and enemies who are male rather than the good, fearless, complex, and morally good female characters and that's awful.
Thank you for coming to my Ted talk, sorry it was so long but that one post you reblogged about women of HP being overshadowed by terrible men reminded me of my anger about this subject. (And jegulus can go die in a hole.)
Anon, I'm loving the energy you're bringing to my inbox :D
This whole issue is what spurred me to start up the @ladiesofhpfest. I felt frustrated with the way male characters in the series get more attention than female ones. It's true that male characters get more page time because of the (misogynist) world JKR created.* Characters like Regulus, Barty Crouch Jr, Evan Rosier, Theodore Nott, etc. get a lot of development compared to minor female characters. Some minor female characters have gotten more development and attention, like Dorcas, Marlene, Pandora, Daphne, and so on, though nowhere near the level or popularity as some of the minor male characters.
I've heard before that the reason some people like the male characters and their stories is due to better development in canon. Essentially "X female character has a shitty story so I'm not interested, I'm only interested in characters with interesting stories." Tonks is a fabulous example of this. Her story arc from OotP to HBP and DH can come off as disheartening. She's introduced as this BAMF Auror, gets moody and depressed, and then "just" becomes a wife and mother.** Yet I find Tonks's story, while not fleshed out, to be super interesting. I was unsatisfied with the details we got in canon, so I've written Tonks out in a million ways. If we can provide whole backstories to characters named once - like Evan Rosier - why not beef up what we have with characters like Tonks?
Despite all this, I do understand why some male characters get more stories and redemption arcs. Think about Severus Snape for a minute. He gets a canonical redemption arc. He's also a massive dick and described repeatedly in unflattering terms. How come there isn't more uwu-baby-poor little meow meow Snape out there?
Because we have overwhelming evidence of him being a dick in the series. We have that with Draco too, but because he's "hot" he gets more attention. If Snape had been handsome he'd be a more popular character, I'm sure of it. Hotness somehow makes people better, like Regulus, or presumably Evan Rosier. What if Evan Rosier, canonically, looked like he was hit in the face with a hot shovel? Would we still be interested? Probably not.
I'd be remiss if I didn't add an important point. Fandom isn't activism or a moral measuring stick. As frustrating and annoying as I find some ships, fanon characterization, and fandom behaviors, it's all pretend. It's fictional fun. Fandom is a hobby for most of us, an outlet for our creativity and feelings.
It IS important, in my view, to point out the problems in canon and fanon, however, because these problems are symptomatic of a larger worldview. Misogyny is deeply ingrained in our world, which leads to violence against all those who identify as women (and in many cases, those who identify as nonbinary). I do think it's worth examining how we write and what we create to uncover the biases we're presenting. I'm not perfect at it. No one is. Fandom is fun and a part of the world we live in that will reflect the values and biases inside our psyches. The biases themselves do not make us morally good or bad; everyone was raised with biases or blind spots that can take lifetimes to undo, if ever. Write what you want, explore what you want, and perhaps do some self-reflection along the way to see what's happening underneath the words.
At the end of the day, sometimes you just want to see two hot blorbos kissing, and cool! Do that! Get your blorbos kissing! Fandom isn't activism, do what you want!
Simultaneously, fandom is a community effort that involves a lot of diverse people, and what we create and share with others can have a real-life impact on others' day to day, or mold their views. Fandom is a part of many of our daily, lived experiences, which means there can be some real-world implications. Think back to the hubbub over the (upcoming?) Harry Potter TV series; the way we talk about it absolutely impacts the way our trans neighbors might feel about their place in the fandom. Thus while I do want to say that fandom isn't activism, fandom is still real life in many ways. It's not ALL our lives, and we shouldn't be morally judging people on slices of online engagement we get, tempting as it may be.
For those like me who write and create for more than pure entertainment (I often ask "what is it that I want to say about the human experience with this piece?"), I do think it's important to reflect on what I'm presenting and why. Not everyone has to do this, though it's helpful in many ways to do so - this is classic metacognition, studying the way we think. It can only help us to think about our own thinking processes. No one is perfect at it, naturally, but it doesn't mean we can't try.
And, when you're feeling down about a fandom issue that frustrates you, help it spur you into action.
*I don't think she intentionally made it misogynist, but her views certainly colored the world she built. Think of how the antagonist women are described as manly, ugly, or heavy-set, like Millicent Bulstrode, Dolores Umbridge, Marge Dursley, Rita Skeeter, etc. These are biases that color the whole world. Barty Crouch Jr doesn't get the same treatment. Nor does Draco Malfoy. Severus Snape is the only one who comes close but he gets a redemption arc.
**This is another way we see JKR's misogyny playing out. The good girls get to be wives and mothers, with a couple exceptions. Women like Dolores, Marge, and Rita have no partners or children that we know of. Women like Minerva and Pomona are given noble teaching professions in lieu of family. Good girls get rewarded with families and noble careers, bad girls don't. JKR being a TERF should come as no surprise, given the way she writes women in such stark terms between the ones who get traditional femininity as a reward and masculine features as a punishment or indictment of their moral value. :(
***One more note re: anon's message. Regulus didn't torture the Longbottoms; he was dead by then.
