okay so i searched the dark!/ddne tag to see if there were any warnings that i draw the line at and i initially was cocky and like pfttt... ive written dark ive read ddne before i dont have any squicks but then the first posts were like. incest (not even stepcest like. actual incest) decapitation and cannibalism so now im traumatised

it's not necessary but if you do plan on writing anything with injury/blood im chill with it ive written stuff that includes it before but please nothing excessively detailed and drawn out and gory (like what i mentioned above 😭 )

also this is a bit random but it takes me out of the story when there's like excessive detail about y/n's parents being dead like it just makes me feel sad for y/n LMAO dont go out of the way to include parents if it's not necessary to the story ofc but i think ykwim like i would rather not have a ton of backstory about them being unalived :,))))

For the character ask game: The West-Allen family from The Flash (Barry, Iris, Nora, & Bart). I know it’s a lot of characters, but I thought it would be easier just send it in one ask instead of four. Also, if you think Bart is too new of a character to do, you can skip him.

Barry

Favorite thing about them: His loyalty and love! I love characters who care about people fiercely 🥰

Least favorite thing about them: The unwillingness to kill Thawne 💀 listen, I have no problem with heroes who have a “no killing” code, but that’s because those heroes are usually kids (Peter Parker in the MCU) or they know that doing it would send them on a dark path (Bruce Wayne, and he’s proven right on a few occasions). But Barry is 32 at this point, and he was 25 when the show started, and NEVER in 7 years has he even TRIED to kill Thawne! Even after everything! Even given COUNTLESS chances! He didn’t even kill Thawne in S1, Eddie did! It’s not like killing Thawne is some kind of moral ambiguity at this point anyway 💀 and Barry is apparently faster than him now!

Favorite line: “Whether you realize it or not, there is no Flash without Iris West” and “we were all struck by that lightning.” Everyone who hates Iris’s “we are the Flash” line, I hope you save that same energy for Barry 🥰 but me, personally? I love both lines!

Random headcanon: Barry once made a valentine for Iris for Feb 2000, but then he was out sick for Valentine’s Day. He kept putting off giving it to her, but his mom encouraged him to go for it. He was going to give it to her on March 19th, but after his mom was killed on the night of the 18th, that all went out the window 😭

Unpopular opinion: Barry considers Joe a father figure, not his actual dad! He calls Henry his dad (says he’s proud to be Henry’s son), says Joe is like his dad, has never considered Iris a sister, considers Wally his brother only after proposing to Iris (which is when Wally starts calling himself Barry’s brother btw!!), and had a crush on Iris back when they were just fellow students in school together! So if you’re calling Westallen incest or incest-adjacent, stop. It’s not

Least favorite thing about them: That argument in S5 where she says Thawne “isn’t that bad.” I love her, but that was so OOC of her to say…wtf writers??

Random headcanon: Iris’s first fight was in defense of Barry, and it was before she even really knew how to fight (she was in the early stages of learning). Someone was making fun of Barry, calling him a crybaby orphan, and Iris punched the kid in the jaw. She still isn’t sure if it was the force of her punch, or the shock of her punching him, that knocked him over, but she remembers the look Barry gave her. Full of love, admiration...and it made Iris feel some type of way that she couldn’t name. It was a crush, but she didn’t have the words for it then, nor the willingness to acknowledge feeling that way about her best friend. And this took place during the time between Nora’s death and Joe taking Barry in.

Unpopular opinion: Iris’s “we are the Flash” line isn’t terrible, actually (see the “favorite line” section for Barry for details). Also, y’all calling Iris a bad mom for what she did to Nora...first of all, metas were ILLEGAL and EXPERIMENTED ON in 2049, so Iris was just protecting her daughter from that. Second of all, she was a SINGLE MOTHER WHO NEVER PLANNED TO RAISE HER SPEEDSTER CHILD ALONE

Favorite thing about them: At times, she can be mature, and she clearly loves her family. In S7, she acts her age, which I like! Maybe it just took having a sibling 😂

Least favorite thing about them: Ohh boy. Well first there’s the fact that she’s almost 30 in S5 but acts like a teen. Then there’s the fact that she keeps working with Thawne EVEN AFTEE KNOWING THAT HE KILLED HER GRANDMA! And THEN there’s her childish anger at Iris–which she does get over, but after way too long! And refusing to even consider Iris’s side!

Favorite line: “Sometimes all we can do is live with the consequences.” Surprisingly mature of you, S5 Nora 💀

BROTP: The Westallen family!

OTP: Nora/Lia, Nora/Mia Smoak-Queen! I recommend this fantastic S5 rewrite fic series featuring Nora/Mia 🥰 and a Nora that acts her age!

NOTP: Nora/Thawne. I wish I was kidding. The ship exists, I’ve seen it, and it makes me want to throw up

Random headcanon: Nora and Iris used to be pretty close before Crisis! They used to watch Food Network together and go shopping together and such. But after Barry disappeared, Iris had to kinda take on the role of both parents, and she wasn’t able to balance that super well along with her reporter job (understandably, being a single mom is HARD AF). Nora never stopped hoping that Iris would find/make the time to have fun with Nora like she used to. Unfortunately, Nora was ready to go off to college before Iris was able to make the time (which, again, isn’t Iris’s fault!! Single parenting AND working is HARD)

Unpopular opinion: Nora isn’t a bad character, she was just poorly written. I would’ve liked to see her written as an actual 28-year-old, or for her to be 18 on the show (which is the route I take in anything I write about her).
