How do y’all find your own art style? Everything I draw without a reference i think is awful, and I’m second guessing everything lol
#gab babs#I’ve been tracing to get used to proportions and stuff like that#mostly bc faces are HARD#I can never get their features to fit their face#it always looks so crowded or so empty#and skintones??? difficult asf#and everything says to not use the smudge tool to blend#but idk how to blend without it#and my drawings always looks so flat#how do y’all have undertones in your skin tones and hair colors??#I’m a mimic at heart so I really dont know how to find my art style without copying someone/anything elses or tracing#and I’m wary of watching tutorials or getting the drawing books#I don’t wanna just be copying stuff forever#I have a horrible habit of doing whatever is easiest#but I wanna genuinely learn how to do art#and I saw tracing was a good way to learn#but I’m second guessing if I’m actually picking up anything from tracing and stuff#like I’m just tracing the outline and I do basically everything else myself#how did y’all get so good ??

I got these shoes from someone recently but thought they were way too plain looking, so I set out on a quest to customize them with some sharpies and charms and miscellaneous ribbon I had in my craft drawers. Mostly sky themed (clouds, rainbows, rain, stars, etc.) because that's my favorite aesthetic, but I had to include some cat imagery as well, of course lol.
#also honestly had NO IDEA that real converse have that star logo on the INSIDE not the outer part??? why the hell would you want it on the#inner portion where nobody can see it?? my entire life I always would have sworn it was on the outer facing portion..#I think these would be perfect IF they were just slightly taller (top part higher above ankles instead of just weird hard material digging#right into your ankle whenever you walk) and if they were actual good platforms. they're so short. It's good that 'chunky' shoes are gettin#more popular as they've always been my favorite Look ever since I had these shoes with roller skates that pop out of thebottom (not heelys.#but like. before those. it was two whole entire roller skate wheels like a normal pair of roller skates) and the bottoms were so tall and#clunky and it made my feet look giant (because it had.. entire wheels in the bottom pockets lol). so#I've alwatys been into the aesthetic but . still I find a lot of the 'brands jumping on trend' are too short of platforms#OR they're plafrorms with a raised back/heel/wedge which to me is not aesthetically good and also makes them exceptionally uncomfortable to#wear compared to just plain completely flat chunky platform bottoms. ANYWAY.. if these shoes had a 3 or 4 inch platform I think they'd be#cooler. however for what they are it's still fine! and I like them more now that they actually have some sort of anything to them and#aren't just plain white. The weird thing is that the material it's made out of (maybe some sort of leather or something) absorbs sharpie?#the color changes over time. You draw a mark and then leave it for a few days and it either fades into being barely there or has changed#colors. so I had to go back in and redo parts. ALSO the shoe chains are so funny because I did NOT have the right tools for them#I don't have the stuff to make bracelets or open and close the little rings. they're held onto the shoe with just safety pins and the actua#little rung things that hold the charms on half of them are like broken or the metal is just jam smushed together bent and warped hhbjhjhb#I actually like the back a lot where there's the irridecent star thing hot glued on there. it's cool and shiny. and the clouds#are sparkly on the main parts of the shoe though I'm not sure how well it shows up in pictures#ANYWAY... shoegs..... If I were rich this is one of the things I would definitely custom order from craftsman#why would I spend like thousands of dollars on plain ass shoes that are just expensive because they're a Luxury Brand when I could literall#like pay people to create me custom shoes to my exact specifications?? I could have like 5 inch flat platform boots with fur andclouds#and cat shaped holes in the bottom with LEDs in them with pom pom and charms and etc. etc. etc. Like as gaudy and excessively over#decorated as I want lol.. AND they could have skates in the bottom somehow!! ghjgbhjb#this on top of all the custom wizard costumes and period clothing I would order.. Like i LOVE customizing things. I love everything in my l#life being as particualr as possible and cultivating every experience I have to meticulously meet my own specific criteria as much#as is possible. If I had the money to I would never buy something from a store again. EVERYTHING I owned from furniture to clothing#would be either made by me - or mostly - comissioned from craftsmen. custom tiles for my floors. custom bed. custom table.#even like. custom toilet. custom sinks. etc. etc. ouGGH... but yeah.. anyway... shoes..

#loz#the legend of zelda#toon link#wind waker#i always told myself i would redraw this. didnt think it would look like this#drawn from start to finish w a tablet in paint tool sai for the first time in maybe. 7-ish years#i use sai often enough. in fact when i draw on pc its usually drawn in sai these days but its also usually with my mouse#cause sai is now spread across 4 devices and. the one with all my settings takes 30 minutes to start up and im scared#if i ignore it it still works until i check and it doesnt. i need to buy a new battery#that is a big reason though. i cant shade if i dont get the settings off of it. my csp settings are also on there#but i kinda use the defaults in csp anyway so it matters less. its also been 4 years. im never looking at those settings ever again i have#i have new settings and brushes now#and also gOD. my worst sai settings which are the defaults tbh are still better than trying to deal with procreates bullshit#sucks because its fun to sketch in but the moment i need to do anything else like line its ASS. shading is fine#adding flats is not cause the selection tool is the worst one out there

Finally finished a reference pic for one of my favorite ocs, Xadian!!!! I mostly left this peice to flats and some important textures (like the fading speckle effect) but I think it turned out wonderfully!
His story is long and kinda complicated to answer all in one post but I’d gladly answer questions if asked about him but here are some basic facts and tidbits to go off of!
Currently he shares a body with one of my other ocs, Jasiker Willowspeak, but pictured here is his true form when their souls arent sharing a body, its also the form that jasiker sees anytime he looks in a mirror or in phantom form lingering around when Xadian isnt in control of the body. He’s very annoying like that.
He is canonically in love with jasiker, albiet in a very toxic and manipulative way. He’s terrible and i love him for it.
In regards to dnd mechanically speaking, he’s a frankenstein of homebrew imagination but can be chalked up to a shadow sorcerer for basic class

#art#traditional art#watercolour#oc art#ocs#oc group: unsorted#oc: siren#im gonna be honest i still havent figured out how to draw sheer fabric. but i'll keep trying#ALSO i tried out a new thing where like#wait okay some context#so ive always had trouble with white in my watercolour doodles because it always looked REALLY flat compared to anything else#and i realized it was because the coloured in parts have the texture and tonal variation from the watercolour pigment to give it dimension#while the white of the paper didnt have anything except my beloved cold press texture#SOMETIMES to get around this with like ocs with white hair ive tried like#putting little strands of a light colour around#or like with my oc snoman since she's made of snow i always use ultramarine shading on her skin even if nothing else is shaded#and that kinda works for snoman cause shes a goddess thing and is otherworldly BUT i didnt like either of those methods for like#anything else#BUT i thought maybe. maybe i can just use REALLY REALLY REALLY light watercolour to make all the white things#(like sirens wings and his usual choice of wardrobe) a sort of off white?#maybe that will bring back some of the lost dimensionality? i dunno im trying it out lol#ANYWAY have some sirens in fancy dresses heeh hee hooo
