like the thing is... and i don’t exactly consider this a “hot take” bc it’s not anything that i desperately want but... i feel like tahani and jason would make a pretty good couple?
obviously like. canon lesbian tahani is a thing i would like very much. canon tahani x eleanor is also a thing i would like very much but the thing is i feel like mike schur is not intending on doing that ever at any point (i don’t trust him to) and he’s just going to continue on having eleanor make random passing sexual comments about women (basically: The Male Gaze but said by a woman) and like. continue writing tahani as “straight”.
so moving on: like in the beginning, it almost made no sense when tahani and jason hooked up, he was nice to her, they bonded, they were nice to each other, but also they didn’t seem compatible, especially intellectually, because a large portion of their conversations was tahani saying something and jason completely misinterpreting it bc! dumb! or jason just saying something dumb and tahani being confused or horrified by it. which honestly... i blame mike schur for because jason (and tahani, to an extent) came off as mere caricatures of certain traits (namely, Stupid and Vain, respectively) rather than... well developed nuanced people.
while i still don’t think their characters are as well developed as they deserve to be, there has been interesting occurrences over the seasons, such as:
attraction, to an extent. “gosh, you’re pretty.” “no, you’re pretty. pretty beautiful.” (this could easily also be interpreted as comp het attraction on tahani’s part, since she called him pretty, but also, it’s plenty valid to be attracted to men and call them pretty instead of handsome because literally nothing matters, and we’re trying to accommodate a world where we’ll never get lesbian tahani so please bear with me)
them bonding. tahani remembers stories that jason tells her, meaning she cares enough about the things he says (even if they’re stupid!! i feel like a good thing about tahani’s arc is her overcoming the biases she’s developed in her privileged upbringing and learning that there’s absolutely nothing wrong about jason being “lower class”) and his experiences to recall them and bring them up, such as when she found out donkey doug is jason’s dad and brought up a story he once told about his dad getting banned from disneyworld for biting buzz lightyear. there’s also that first moment where jason made tahani feel better and reassured her that she was amazing and wonderful and should be nicer to herself and i feel that jason does that for her more than any other character. she’s also told him that she feels like she can “let her hair down” and truly be herself around him, and honestly... that’s not nothing?
they care about each other and treat each other so well! jason took tahani home and literally slept in a dumpster and all he had to say about the incident was that he had so much fun getting to know her? and tahani was really worried about him sleeping in a dumpster!! there was also the thing with her volunteering to watch football with him and like yeah she wanted to bang him and she didn’t care about football but also the fact that the intention to bang was there actually contributes to my argument
they learn from each other. jason taught tahani more about how to be generous with money, whilst still having fun with it and also respecting others in the process. “you don’t have to say the ‘are you poor’ part” “right.” and she felt so strongly about his struggles with money that she literally married him so that he would never have to worry about money ever again like when will a super hot rich lady marry me so i can have financial security that’s like the sexiest thing ever. literally there is barely anything truly toxic about their relationship (nothing they can’t fix) they literally are happy to spend time with each other (and that could be platonic or romantic! but for the sake of this argument yadda yadda yadda) and i haven’t seen them fight in the s3 timeline and literally the only negative feelings tahani has ever had towards jason (mostly in s1 if i’m being honest) was based on her biases against people who are Simple (which isn’t all there is to jason! the reason why their relationship fell apart at first was because they truly did not know each other all that well and they were underdeveloped as characters)
they are... both hot. “you’re both so attractive. are all humans as attractive as you two?” [tahani laughing] “no.” and honestly i just feel like an interracial couple that doesn’t involve white people is a good thing (as much as i love janet she’s a white-passing robot who just knows everything in the universe and her relationship with jason especially given the current season timeline seems to largely involve her being blindly obsessed with jason so how is that a basis for a good healthy relationship she’s not human AND jason hasn’t interacted with her much in this current timeline aside from asking her art prices in a museum PLUS he’s said he doesn’t know how he feels about her despite finding out she’s literally in love with him and honestly to me that just feels like he currently doesn’t have feelings for her at all and like. that can happen. not everything remains the same across literal different timelines. also debating why a human and a robot should date is just not on the cards today) and it deserves to be developed
tl;dr if the good place insists on tahani only shagging men and never women forever i’d rather that man be jason thanks
