Getting back on track, his jacket is ruined beyond repair... or at least that was the notion Jason has subscribed to. He was about to head out and tend to his responsibilities around the camp to prepare for the inevitable rush of kids swarming the place for their summer vacation, when he realized he couldn't find it

Not that he *needed* it... so he heads out to do his thing, letting you know when you expect him to come home

This gives you some alone time to work on your little project that you've been working on for the past day or two, sneaking around your boyfriend so the surprise wouldn't be ruined

It was... a monumental task... you originally thought you'd just have to stitch the tears but you quickly realized that you'd have to get creative when fixing the large holes, so it could still.. fit as it should without stressing the thread..

But it ended up being worth it!

duck is horrible to literally everyone, including those he loves— EXCEPT red guy. he will be blunt or rude, sure, but he will NEVER treat red guy specifically with the malice he treats others with. BUT!! this will never be acknowledged. ducks obvious favoritism will be ignored both by himself AND red guy because red guy, most of the time—literally doesnt care which contradicts the fact he wants love more than anything

duck is an exception to him just like he is to duck— but in a negative way. duck isnt a red thing, or his parents or uncle— why should he care for HIS love? whats it matter? he doesn’t fully believe that, but hes convinced himself he does. sometimes it will slip, and youll be able to hear the softness in his voice when duck walks into a room— but that isn’t acknowledged either even when its fairly obvious to everyone but him.

speaking of his apathy— red guy, despite normally being pretty alright even in his most uncaring moments— despite being the one that is universally known for being a pretty chill guy— will be apathetic to duck (and yellow) to the point of cruelty at times. he will say awful things to them, dismissive things that he doesnt truly mean but will say them with a tone full of boredom that makes it hit HARD. this ALSO wont be acknowledged. he will always get away with it because hes supposed to be the fan/universes favorite which is played into often. but also— neither red or duck want to admit when something hurts them or makes them feel anything in general.

BUT thats not really true for duck, is it? hes always been proud of his feelings, or at the very least obvious with them. youd think with how duck acts hed be ashamed to be so weakened by a man— but he ISNT. he states his care for red guy proudly to the point of arguing. people credit red guy for being the one to confess like he fell first, but theyre dead wrong. duck has loved red guy his entire existence. loving red guy is natural to him and hes astonished when red guy rejects him because he genuinely believes they were MADE for each other (this includes yellow as part of the family, but again— red guy is special. hes quite literally his special one)

when red guy confesses to duck— duck isnt surprised because he hadnt realized himself, hes surprised because after decades of loving someone whose constantly ignored him hes not only being told he feels the same but is also being given a direct compliment from a guy who often dismisses him (which is deserved at times btw dont get me wrong here)

I think people dont realize that duck only didnt “confess” because he didnt feel he needed to. it never crossed his mind because to him they were literally stitched together for each other what confession is needed? thats his best friend. no need for fancier words or discussions, its something hes always known and he assumed red guy knows whether or not he chooses to acknowledge it.

but the point is, duck fell first and red guy fell harder. dont get it twisted yall

Howdy! I'm so glad the bag is going well. Do you have a post where you talk about how you go about felting them?

To be entirely honest, I just throw my soon-to-be-felted object in the washer and dryer. I've found that unless its very large it needs other things in the wash with it, so i usually add in a towel or two. The washer in my current place has settings for water temp (I choose the hot then cold option for maximum felting) as well as settings for agitation level (I usually choose the most agitation).

When it comes out of the washer its rarely fully felted and will look limp and not great if you dont also run it thru the dryer, or else continue felting it in the wash. For the dryer, it again needs other things in the dryer with it. Towels are great.

Sometimes I will run an object through a full wash/dry cycle and then decide it could be more felted and throw it in again on the same or gentler settings, depending on how much more it needs to felt.

You might be concerned about over felting your piece and ending up with a hard tiny piece of wool...I would certainly test your washer/dryer setup with a swatch at least the first time to see what it does, but in my experience felting a piece takes a lot of time and energy, way more than you'd expect, and none of the washer/dryers ive used have taken it from "beautiful airy piece" to "hard lump" even after repeated washes. Im sure it depends on the machines to a point, and on the wool.

The other thing of note is that while you CAN call it day after washer/dryer and still get a much more robust piece, theres additional steps you can do to further process it--brushing it and then ironing it again. That's how any sort of hard felt is usually made. Lots of steam and pressure with an iron after pulling extra fibers to the surface. I don't often do this so I don't have much to say about it.

Also--knitting likes to lose its stitch structure during felting, meaning it will often turn out without much visual texture. Weaving can do this as well. Not as practiced a weaver so I don't want to say too much, but it seems both wool knitting and weaving can lose visible stitch structure.

Crochet on the other hand does not do this. Because it is made of small knots rather than a flatter, more web like structure, what happens is that the knots tighten and get smaller, but typically the holes do not fill in. Maybe they would do that with brushing and ironing, haven't tried it on an open crochet piece. But felted crochet has a pretty different feel from felted weaving and knitting. I like to crochet wool bags because they're easy to make and strong, and felting them adds further strength and durability, but it doesnt turn them into solid objects like felting a knit bag does. Even single crochet (us terms) will kind of just get smaller and a little harder but not necessarily more solid. Just something to keep in mind.

I do like the idea that Nai just keeps it hidden, but imagine Nai's mate finding it and wanting to improve on it more, so little by little theyve been hand-embroiddering stuff on each patch to give it more life, and Nai doesnt notice cause he doesnt really lay it out often, and one day he just has this urge to look at it again, maybe give it a chance and add it to the nest, afterall its the thought that counts right? but then he spreads it out and sees the different embroiderry, like hearts or flowers that Nai's mate saw in books~ Theres even an ongoing embroiderry that makes it clear that his mate has been stitching this behind his back lol

(okay thats all sorry for the ramble im just so weak for them huhu)

A Blanket of Many Colors, Knives x Reader

You run your fingers over the blanket you had gifted Nai, the patchwork of white making the blanket look more like a haphazard ghost costume rather than a gift you'd painstakingly sown together. You sigh, you didn't really blame Nai for hiding it away in fact you'd been a be relived when you found out your mate kept the scraggly piece of fabric at all. While the vision had been there the end result had ended up lack luster at best.

You groan, about to tuck it back away in its hiding spot for good when you pause over one of the squares. Although by itself it wasn't much...it'd be the perfect base for something else. You think of what you could fill the tiles with, you had more than enough colored thread to add a bit of life to it, you mull over a couple options before remembering the book of flowers Nai had shown you once, his expression had soften as he explained the differences between each species. Inspired, you quickly grab the blanket and march over to the large bookcase in the corner of Nai's room, running your fingers over the spines of the books trying to find the correct one.

"c'mon...it's gotta be here somewh- ah!" you say triumphantly, pulling out the book containing pictures hundreds of different flowers. You'd been amazed when Nai first showed you, plants like this didn't bloom on Gunsmoke, so the idea of their soft petals were all you had to go off of. You quickly flip through the book picking out one of the flowers and grab some red thread and a needle, ready to go to work.

Some where along the way this little practice had become routine for you. Every time Nai was away or you were bored you'd sneak over to the cabinet your mate had stored the blanket and add a small embroidery. Adding a different flower every time until the blanket was becoming a colorful tapestry of your own making. You weren't sure if Nai even knew what you were doing, if he did he didn't say anything about it. So you continued the harmless pass time figuring he had just forgotten about the gift to collect dust.

He hadn't. Nai was, admittedly, particular when it came to his nest and he knew it. He'd mull over the sheets over and over making sure they were the same shade of white and that they were both soft and large enough. When you had presented him with the hand made blanket...it wasn't that he didn't apricate a gift from his beloved mate, it's just that he cringed internally anytime he thought about it in his nest. He couldn't bring himself to throw away something made by your hands though, so he had stored it away for safe keeping, not wanting anyone else to get their filthy hands on something made specifically for him.

It wasn't until a couple months and one tedious day later that he found himself marching towards his quarters. His instincts where screaming to wind down and drag you into the nest with him but you were out in Ja'Lai, escorted by Legato. He huffs, thinking of grabbing some of your clothes to add to the nest for your scent but then grimaces at the idea of all that disorganized fabric against the white sheets and pillows. He pauses looking at the cabinet that contained the gift you had made all that time ago. Although he still bristles slightly at the idea of it sprawled out in his nest...maybe it's the thought that counts? No. Absolutely not. But he could at least drag it out for a little while, maybe it wasn't as bad as he remembered.

Nai opens the cabinet and reaches in for the blanket but when he pulls it out...his eyes go wide. He holds it up so that he had a better view of what he's seeing, flowers he had only seen as a child blossom against the white fabric painting a scene of an intricate garden that only his memories and dreams could recreate. Had his mate been doing this the whole time? He tilts his head and gently traces the patters of the petals and whining stems that adorns the blanket now, then...he glances up towards his nest.

"Nai? You you here?" you call walking towards your shared room. The others had informed you of your mates arrival while you were out in town and you were eager to welcome him with open arms. You pad in, cold floor beneath you feet. He must be curled up in the nest it's where he liked to recharge after being gone. You walk towards the bed where you know a heap of white blankets and pillows is waiting as you quietly peek in the room. Your mate is in the nest alright, but...instead of the usual stark white, a myriad of color litters the top. Your blanket, you realize, is now the main center piece of the nest, curled securely around your sleeping mate as he purrs in his sleep, plant marking glowing softly. It seems...he liked the gift after all.

I feel like Kick loves giving people kisses on the head, first everyone thought he was pulling shit again, but he just genuinely likes it. the fact that everyone sits on edge a bit, because they think he did anything, is just a little bit of a bonus

Logan will sometimes help out Kick with pulling pranks, no-one expects/belives it tho, except for Hesh, because he knows his little brother

Logan and Hesh both will sometimes say/do the most out of pocket shit (can't forget that these two are the only gen z in the group) Merrick is the most disturbed by this, Elias is used to it at this point, Kick loves it (It's how he recruited Logan), Keegan is mostly confused, but tries to hide it ("he ain't that much older, damnit")

They got into the habit because it'd get cold at night (on field) and it's more comfortable to sleep close to another person for warmth then they got used to it and also craved the contact. Napping together is a long language.

From the other side of the makeshift ‘lab’ you heard the gentle tinkling of smashed glass hitting the floor, turning quickly to find Jonathan kneeling, balanced on his weaker leg, lifting the pieces from the ground.

“Do you need help?”

“Perfectly capable, thank you.”

You approached him anyway, slowly, quietly, until you noticed that one of the shards had cut his thumb which was now bleeding profusely, droplets spilling onto the floor, mixing with the orange liquid that oozed into the cracks in the tiles.

“Oh no, you dropped a vial of the toxin?”

“Plenty more.”

“Your thumb, Jon…”

“Also fine.”

“But, the wound is open and the toxin-”

“It doesn’t have any effect on me anymore.”

He was indeed immune to the effects, either inherently or through years of exposure, but it was the blood that caused you concern.

“You’re bleeding though. A lot. Let me clean it up for you, please.”

Placing gloves over your hands, you cleaned up the wound, making sure there was no glass left embedded into his cracked, filthy finger. It was deep enough to warrant a couple of stitches, something Jonathan was more than happy to allow you to do for him.

“This might sting.”

“I’m very used to this specific pain.”

You tried to smile at the humour, dark as it was, but you knew it came from a place of genuine hurt. As you watched him surreptitiously out of the corner of your eye, he yawned, and you felt something invisible but strong tugging at your heart.

“You know, Jon… you should get some sleep. You don’t need to do everything alone, or be awake when I’m awake. There’s no need to be a martyr to the cause.”

He looked at himself in the dull reflection of the metal table.

“I’m afraid I already am.”

Bypassing the social conventions set in place by the nature of your working relationship, you took his cheek in your hand, turning him to face you, offering him a smile, his cold skin warming under your palm quickly.

As you only just grew accustomed to the fact that he had allowed such a close, intimate gesture to go unchecked, you were quickly taken aback as he leaned in, grabbing your face, pressing his lips to yours.

The kiss took your breath away, how surprisingly tender it was, the feeling behind it. A drop of passion, a hint of desperation, vulnerability. And when your lips had parted, he remained close, stopping for a moment to catch his breath with his forehead against yours.

And when you had prepared yourself for the sweet moment to end, he quickly turned his head, a kiss on your cheek, the side of your neck, round to the front as his hands found your thighs, clawing at them. You inhaled sharply, tossing your head back to allow him more room to explore you, but he was done. It was over.

He pulled away, uttering a soft thank you before returning to the work bench. Tender, sweet, healing. You hoped he would remember the gesture, and the unspoken commitment to providing him with more when needed.

2023 crochet round up!

i mentioned making a post like this a few days ago, and true to my nature, i waited until the last minute to get pictures

so here we are, in no particular order, various projects i finished in 2023

1.) this was technically crocheted last year (i think) but this year i finally assembled and lined it, making it finished! its not quite the size to be a purse, but its perfect for carrying my phone and keys while dog walking

i followed this pattern, and im really happy with the results!

2.) some little zipper bags. like the bag above, the purple one was crocheted last year, but i finally added the lining and zipper this year (i also used the same pattern as the above bag to make the purple one)

the grey one doesnt have a lining and zipper yet, but since the crochet is finished, it still makes the list

3.) little squares from this pattern, to have something to clip my stitch markers to, very helpful for travel

4.) a few of the chokers i made during the summer, there are a bunch more, but you get the idea, a couple were made based on this pattern

4.) this one was hard to get a good shot of, but it's a cat blanket i made for my sister's cats

the pattern was a free one i got from michael's in store, which doesnt seem to be on their site? however its a pretty simple pattern, im pretty sure you could find something nearly identical by searching "star baby blanket" or something like that

5.) for ages now i've been meaning to make something to keep my tablet pens in, because having them loose in my bag is begging for disaster

i actually had to make this little case twice, the first one was too long and the proportions looked weird, so it isnt pictured here

i hand finished all the seams for the lining, there was no practical need to do this

6.) pouch to carry headphones i got for my birthday

7.) pouch to carry Cool Rocks

the bottom of the bag comes from these doily patterns, and the ends of the ties are from this pattern

8.) a mini dice bag, made to hold a couple sets of mini dice my sister made for me!

9.) several cord ties made from this pattern, the flower was my own addition (only two ties are pictured because i didnt feel like tracking down the third)

10.) a flower vine to decorate my desk, no actually on my desk because i still need to sort out how i want to attach it

11.) speaking of flowers, ive probably made dozens of these little guys, they're very quick to make, and a good way to give my hands something to do while watching something

17.) this was made from a variation on the same pattern i used for the cat blanket, i made a couple others from the same sort of pattern late last year, but i decided i needed one in black in october, because it looks just a bit like bat wings

18.) i made a cowl from this pattern, and i really love the texture of it! i also made one for my mom in a different color, which is not pictured here because i took these picture last minute

other things not pictured include: a dice bag for my sister, flowers for my mom, and a sack for the cats to curl up in (since they love making nests out of my projects)

for most of bnha i thought bakugo was fine and found his ragequits funny when izuku wasn the focus, but now... i dislike his character because i think he overstayed his welcome. what does he add to the themes of this manga? what impacting arc did he lead? if anything, he tries to assimilate in the afofa plot but does nothing relevant to it. horikoshi seems to be saving him for the climax of the shiggydeku fight and i think this would hurt the story if anyhing

At the beginning of the manga I neither liked nor disliked him, I just thought he was kinda annoying but I was sure I would learn to love him over time. Boy was I wrong. Like you said he completly overstayed his welcome and doesnt contribute anything meaningful to the story. He is simply still there because of fanservice.

The only part I disagree with you is about hori saving him for the climax of the shiggydeku fight. Right now, bakugou is pretty much "DOA" (not really, but he is in no condition to fight right now even if he wakes up and espicially with a freshly stitched up paper ninjeart as a new heart and all the blood lose and dont even make me start how he should be literally braindead at this point without any oxygen for "at least" 10 minutes). Personally I believe hori needed to put bakugou out of the way for the shiggydeku fight. This fight is personal and bakugou would steal the spotlight because of his popularity and he plays no role in shiggys saving, he doesnt even know that izuku WANTS to save shiggy and that would be something bakugkou wouldnt agree with at all. Everytime bakugou attacked shiggy he was going for the kill, izuku is not. Bakugou is not interested in saving shiggy or villains in generell. I think hori choose to let bakugou fight against shiggy first, because he promised for him to have a big moment. And he had that big moment. Its done now. Lets move on. There is no reason for bakugou to be included in this fight any longer. He stands zero chance against shiggy or afo anyway and he gives a ratsass for shiggy.

[knit/crochet] skip the cheapo acrylic yarn if you can. it is cheap but yr gonna stick a WHOLE BUNCH of hours into this, i promise it will be more fun if it feels NICE while yr doing it!! there are some really pleasant feeling yarns that aren't much more expensive, and it will just be a much nicer experience.

[every craft] ignore everyone telling you you need a billion accessories. most of them are completely unnecessary. you dont need the fanciest needles or fancy stitch markers or expensive whatevers. dont sink a bunch of money into something yr just trying out

[all] try out different methods!! i spent ages trying to learn continental knitting when i was starting, bc people said it was Better but. i tried and i didnt enjoy it. but i know more for trying it!

THIS!!! I HAD LOTS OF MEDS AND PROFESSIONALS FOR YEARS AND I DIDN'T THINK I WOULD EVER BE BETTER! BUT I'M BETTER NOW!

I started with watching cooking videos and trying it out. Just easy cheap meals. At first even those weren't good but I keep trying! I became a vegetarian and discovered that you just need to know how to prepare vegetables and now I like nearly all of them! Also try making smoothies with frozen food & honey (bonus: add some frozen spinach in your smoothies. You won't taste it!)

I take walks listening to music or podcasts! Sometimes i call my friend or mom to talk while I walk. I try to look around and discover precious little things! I saw swans nest the last time I went out.

Also. I always told myself I was a night owl/more productive at night. Thats not true. Go to bed at a set time EVERY night. And don't try to sleep till late afternoon! I usually try to wake up at 10 am and go to bed at midnight!

I take a self care bath once a week but shower during the week! It makes me feel better!

If your body hurts or you feel tired after waking up. I recommend 10-20 min yoga tutorial you can do in the morning to wake up! Your body will stop hurting.

I also discovered going on runs. I'm not good at them and at first I felt like dying but I kept going and now I started to enjoy them!

Try to find things you can do in your city. Go on a walk discovering & learning about herbs. Go to a museum. Do some pottery painting. Ask your friends to go with you! They also want to do things!

If you are home, don't just scroll. I try to find hobbies i can do with my hands! Stitching, crocheing, sewing, drawing, painting, writing etc. You can find a lot of things for those at dollar stores. They wont be high quality but you can try them out and see if you like them! If you're not sure how to start, there are a ton of youtube tutorials for free!

Start telling your friends & family you love them. At first it will feel awkward. But they appreciate it & will start saying it back!

Don't be discouraged if something doesnt work out at first! (I hurt my feet running in bad shoes when i started going on runs. It hurt. They healed and I restarted after I did research. I wasn't very good at crocheing but I kept going and now I don't need patterns anymore! Etc.)

It gets better. Even if you don't want to live rn or you don't think anyone will miss you. They will! You will find friends and love and joy! It will get better :)

Buckle up because I'm gonna show yall how to make a crop top out of an old pair of leggings!

I'm gonna be the first to say that I know very little about sewing. This project requires very little sewing, if any. This took me like half an hour with just some scissors.

And for context, I started doing this for bellydance costumes like this one. But you can do it for whatever reason you want.

Okay.

So I suck at sewing but I also suck at writing tutorials. So catch me if something dont make sense.

Directions:

Lay your leggings out so that the crotch is flat.

We're gonna cut along three of these seams.

Identify which seam is the front and stick a pin in it.

Then stick a pin in each leg seam, equal distance apart. These pants are made of stretch material, so we're going to err on the side of small and cut more when needed.

Get either a seam ripper or a pair of tiny scissors and start snipping the threads until you hit the pins.

If you're impatient, you can just slit straight through the fabric, but it's more likely to be uneven or unravel that way.

Okay.

Now try it on.

If you cant fit your head and arms in the hole, snip a little further on whichever seam needs more room.

If everything fits and you're sure you're only going to wear this once (like for concerts, festivals, costumes) you can call it done.

The next step requires sewing, but it's really simple and will make it last a little longer.

You're gonna do a whip-stitch (where you run the thread in a little spiral) along the edge of the neck and shoulder line. All the way around the big hole you just made. You'll want to do this to any part that you cut (like sleeves, if you want to cut those) so that it doesnt fray when you wear it.

I'm not an elegant sewer, so this is what mine looks like.

THEN YOURE DONE.

You can mod and decorate it however you want, put trims and appliques and paint or whatever you want. Wear it as an under layer, as a standalone piece, or as a base for a costume.

Or just make it because you want to give new life to a pair of leggings and clothes modding is fun.

Anyway that's what I did while waiting for the a/c repair man to come. (He didnt.)

he has a hard time sleeping in front of other people and he's a light sleeper, which can make sharing a hotel room difficult sometimes. he's also an early riser, which can sometimes be a little creepy for whoever's bunked up with him for the night: he's still awake when they go to sleep but he's also already showered, dressed, and left them breakfast on the nightstand. it's hard to tell if he's slept at all

he’s an excellent gift giver but he also hates attention so it’ll usually be anonymous. at some point tho they all realize when it’s something from him. he's uncomfortable receiving gifts (more ab hating attention and not feeling like he deserves anything), so the team will just leave things on his desk with a note or something, usually including "no take-backs."

he hates getting his picture taken, but he loves having photos of people he cares about. something something doesnt care about himself something something in his wallet he has a picture of jack, of haley and jack, of jessica and jack, and a lot with the team: one with emily including rossi, one including gideon and elle, one of just penelope and jj, one of just derek and spencer, and one old picture (the only one he has of himself) of him standing between gideon and rossi when he first joined the bau.

he’s good at cooking, but only when he’s following a recipe (which is why he’s also good at baking). so between gideon and rossi he knows how to cook a lot of italian food. but he’s a quick learner and will pick up skills just by watching. he’s very attentive when someone is preparing a meal for him.

he likes most foods and isn’t very picky, but he loses his appetite easily and can handle plainer food better when he’s focused on/upset about something.

he has. a fucking insanely high pain tolerance. like the pain registers and he can definitely feel it, but he doesn’t ever show it. morgan was some combination of awed/horrified when he saw hotch get stitched up for something minor for the first time and the man didn’t so much as wince.

autistic hotch is also something that can be so personal. ik @eldrai has written out some amazing hcs in further detail that i’m obsessed with. he’s just got very specific things that makes him feel safe; a few things that have to be a certain way for him to feel comfortable/normal like his clothing; he has a hard time expressing what he’s feeling which is something he’s gotten better at over the years; he’s actually pretty good at deciphering social cues but only when he’s actively thinking about it; bc of his childhood he’s learned to stim in very small movements like touching his thumbs to his fingers. lots of other stuff too but those are the things that come to mind.

every hc for hotch’s backstory is genuinely gonna be way too fuckin long to put in a bullet list. especially the kind of detail @t4thotchniss and i have put into it. goin over the basics: super violent father, mom’s psyche has taken a severe downward spiral after the years of abuse, hotch snaps and beats his father to death, a couple days later his mom burns the house down while he’s out getting groceries. we also like to throw an older sister in there for funsies to a) get baby sean out of the house before their father gets a chance to go after him at this point the sheer brutality of the abuse has gotten so severe that there’s no way a baby would survive the conditions in the house and b) to help hotch’s transition get started pretty early
