Is the Bonhoeffer movie historically accurate? Only broadly. Is it artistically good? Probably no. Did I weep violently through over half of it? Yes.
#like i've been there i've been to ravensbruck i braved berlin public transport alone with no phone#to go find his churches#he's not like one of my heroes of the faith and i don't really like his (incomplete) theology#but y'all he followed God in the worst situation#also i had a long convo with friends today about how you can't find a stable incontrovertible consensus-causing authority#in this life#(they are searching for one so desperately)#and i avowed my position that i don't think you can trust anything including yourself beyond doubt in this life#(obviously you can trust God but can you trust your access to/interpretation of Him? no)#and my friend was like you don't think we should wish to be at peace? and i said not in this life!!#idk it felt like a very appropriate and comforting follow-up to that conversation#***sorry i have not been to ravensbruck nor has bonhoeffer. i meant buchenwald#getting my concentration camps mixed up
