the silliest fandom problem to have is curating my online space so carefully and so vigilantly that when mentions of a truly delusional post break containment and intrigue me, i have to use quantum physics and enter the fifth dimension just to find that post because i want to have a vicious little popcorn moment

I Like to imagine the reason Amanda has that fuck ass bob in saw x is because John was like “Amanda we need to stay out of public sight, could you just let me do your hair?” And Amanda is like touched by her dad wanting to do it so she lets him and he’s just sitting in his wheelchair fucking up her hair with shaky hands and dull scissors (they were probably used to gauge some guys eye out like twenty minutes ago) Then he pulls out a lil hand held mirror and looks at her with big eyes and asks her if she likes it and she’s looking at it with feigned enthusiasm saying she does even though it looks fucking terrible but John makes a little smile because he’s proud that he made her happy and she’s like on the verge of tears because of it (happy tears bc of him smiling) she doesn’t even care about the atrocious haircut just bc she saw John happy

Why does everyone keep saying Telemachus is a teenager? That he’s just a kid??
I’m honestly?? Baffled?
The man is at least 20 years old??
All I can find on Telemachus’ age before Odysseus left for war is that he was an infant. Google’s shit though so maybe there’s an exact age listed somewhere that I’m just not finding in my cursory search. I did however see a few people claim he was two when Odysseus left and to be fair, “infant” is an unclear term. I personally wouldn’t assume an infant was two—I’d guess under a year old—but technically speaking “under the legal age of majority” is a valid definition.
Odysseus was gone about 20 years as stated in the original Odyssey and Epic the musical. Telemachus says so himself in Legendary that it’s been 20 years.
Telemachus, as stated previously, is around 20 years old, possibly older given the vagueness of “infant”.
Odysseus was king of Ithaca and headed off to war about that age. Telemachus is not a child.
I know Epic portrays Telemachus as being a kid, but he is a grown adult. In fact, a good chunk of the original story is about Telemachus searching for his father by going on his own voyage. Odysseus’ journey home is actually told as a story later on in the books by Odysseus after escaping Calypso.

Another instance of the shadow dragon background not mattering is when you fight the dragon that destroyed your city Rook says ‘let’s take it down for Neve’ and then Lucanis can say ‘her city will be avenged’
I don’t think all backgrounds were created equal

Okay so I’ve really been mulling it over, because people I respect have also brought this complaint to me, and I genuinely do not think Hannibal is problematic with it’s females.
1) The females of Hannibal were treated badly and most didn’t end well. Yes. But so are the males of Hannibal. The literal only characters that aren’t treated terribly are Jimmy and Zeller. That is it.
2) The females of Hannibal are over-sexualised. Hannibal is undoubtably from the male gaze, I cannot deny that. It is centred around a gay male story. It is from a gay male director. That is what the story is about. Yet, I would argue not all the females are overly sexualised in Hannibal: Beverly, Molly, Bella, Abigail. I would argue Chiyoh and Reba also fall into this category. In fact, I would go as far as to say that the only characters that are overly sexualised are Alana, Margot, and Bedelia. I would also argue that the sexualisation of all three of these characters is an extension of the dehumanisation that Hannibal (the character) does to literally everyone.
3) Adding to this point, the characters of this show (including the other men) are seen through the eyes of Will and Hannibal, but predominantly Will. They’re overly simplified when we first meet them, because Will has no experience with people. He’s isolated, he simplifies people. For example, Abigail, the most contentious character on the show. We first see her as a simple victim, then we see her as a survivor, then we see her as a stand in for Misha, and then she’s dead. The reason this happens is because she is always a symbol for Will and Hannibal, not a person. Alana gains personhood by season 3, season 1 she is a martyr, season 2 she is an object for Hannibal and Will to fight over, and by season 3 Will finally has acknowledged that she is a human being, and we see that side of her. It is not a 2 dimensional character, it is just good story telling.
4) I really think it’s hard to argue that a show does women dirty that has such a variety of women with different personalities and character arcs. Alana has a literal empowerment arc. Margot kills her abuser. Bella comes to terms with her death and gets that taken away from her. Chiyoh finally stops standing still. Bedelia has a legit villain arc. Reba is probably one of the best written characters on Hannibal and I will die on this hill. A lesbian couple? Disability representation? Yes every single one of these arcs is triggered and manipulated by the men of this show, but that is because the men of this show are Hannibal and Will, who control everyone’s arc, no matter their gender. Jack, Chilton, Anthony, Francis, Zeller, all of them are also dictated to by Hannibal and Will. Because they’re insane and the show is literally about their effect on others.
