What’s your favourite Narnia book? Mine is probably the magicians nephew :)
the magician's nephew is high up in the rankings for me! the world building (quite literally when aslan does it for narnia haha) was amazing and it's interesting to think about the multiverse through those pools in the wood between the worlds. also aunt letty vs jadis is such a hilarious moment i can't get over it LIKE SHE THREW HER ACROSS THE ROOM. thank god for that mattress.
but i think my favorite book in the series is probably prince caspian! personally, i related to caspian a lot, especially the wonder he experiences when meeting the narnians; it's a lot like when the reader yearns for magic and adventure in their world and being able to find it in a moment where it's least expected. for a dreamer such as me, it's very hopeful and delightful to see.
not to mention the book illustrates the bittersweet feeling of nostalgia when it comes to remembering the golden age so well. when you read the lion, the witch, and the wardrobe as well as the horse and his boy you feel wistful along with the pevensies, as if you sat on thrones with them, rode on horses along with them, talked to creatures of all kinds and had tea with them. there's something indescribable in reading this book and realizing things have changed so much, struggling to believe it all. hundreds of years? thousands of years? it's just too good.
#in other books i've read with portal fantasy genres the characters always come back to the same era/timespan as their previous adventures#at most a year in the fantasy world passes#c.s lewis had some serious guts when he decided to include a timeskip#and despite its logical incongruencies regarding how linear/consistent narnian time is to earth time he uses it pretty well#tcon#the chronicles of narnia#chronicles of narnia#narnia#caspian x#aunt letty#aslan#jadis#the white witch#the magician's nephew#prince caspian#the lion the witch and the wardrobe#the horse and his boy#peter pevensie#edmund pevensie#susan pevensie#lucy pevensie
