I’m sick of people passing off patronizing and condescending commentary about how naive and impressionable women are as useful and educational. These people will base their analysis of fiction on sexist notions about how easily women are “tempted “ by malevolent villains and then act as if that’s some revolutionary take. They’ll unironically construe the narrative in a way that takes away all agency from the female heroine and frame her decisions as entirely the result of the villain’s manipulation.

They wring their hands about how dangerous it is for women to be exposed to these stories and moan about how terrible it is that hot villains appeal to the “baser instincts” and tempt female viewers further (Yes, I actually saw someone make this argument) It’s truly bizarre to see people agreeing with such patronizingly sexist rhetoric and saying things like “I miss the days when villain romances were cautionary tales and not encouraged.” As if women thirsting after attractive fictional villains is some epidemic that threatens society.

It’s especially irritating when women are the ones saying these things. They want to believe that they are a rare exception that, unlike those other brainless girls, can understand that liking hot villains will threaten their morals and lead them astray…OH THE HORROR!! Please save your dramatic preaching for the next purity conference and stop pretending that your sanctimonious commentary has any substance whatsoever.

I've blocked an anti yesterday, who claimed the Darkling abused Alina so badly he forced her to attempt suicide to escape him.

Alina didn't try to kill herself to get away from the Darkling. She tried to kill them both, because she was forced to face the fact he's right, and they're truly alike in some aspects. That she loves her power and the power it brings her over others. She doesn't want to live in shadows of obscurity.

She wasn't some poor desperate teen victim, but a young woman avoiding unpleasant truths no matter the cost.

When Aleksander was thirteen he expressed fear and concern of forgetting his name because he spent so much time pretending to be someone else:

What if one of the reasons he entrusted his real name to Alina was because he wanted someone to know it, so that it wouldn't be completely forgotten? It was a time of war and he quite possibly wasn't sure how things would end.

And if he died, who would truly remember him? The real him? His real name.

So he confided in Alina. He exposed his real self to her and entrusted her his name. Just in case, so if he died someone else would remember it. All his life it was kept a secret and only his mother knew it. But at this point of the story he doesn't know where his mother is. He probably thought he would never see her again or that she was dead. By giving his name to Alina it was perhaps a way to make sure that it wouldn't be entirely lost.

Almost but for Alina that he chose to carry it and remember it. It's not entirely gone and someone could whisper it as he lay dead.

LSTR-S2301 and the maintenance tunnel ARAR are best friends to me even though that Elster was only on sierpinski for a seemingly brief time, they’re bros who fuck around on the clock during work. I think Elster was probably more willing to put extra time in however she’s also very “okay you’ve given me a list of tasks I did them. They’re done and done well. That’s it, my time now.” Whereas I see Ara being more of a slacker (very valid of her) or at the very least just a bare minimum type of gal when it comes to work.

Idk I tend to imagine them fucking off in the middle of shifts to go find weird lonely corners of sierpinski to hang out in. They don’t even talk half the time but they love it.
