That's because Bandcamp doesn't own Cakewalk. BandLab owns Cakewalk. They bought it from Gibson in 2018, prior to which it was called Sonar or Cakewalk Sonar because the company developing it was called Cakewalk. BandLab fixed up and re-released Sonar under the name Cakewalk by BandLab. It used to be a subscription model, BandLab shifted it to a free subscription model, meaning it needs to be validated via login I think it's once a year. They're in the process of deprecating the free subscription edition and releasing a new paid subscription edition. I've been using Cakewalk and tbh it's too good for this world, it was never going to last, and it is a dick move, but Bandcamp is 1000% not involved and never has been. They certainly didn't fucking develop it.
Reaper is just nagware, you can keep using it after the 60 day free trial expires and plenty of people do. I'm gonna skip straight back to FL Studio tho, the lifetime upgrades model is worth the money imo, and it's still pretty cheap as premium DAWs go, I think Reaper is the only one cheaper.
alright NOW download all your music in the highest quality you can store
#we piss on the poor here#also you literally can still download the free edition of Cakewalk the page is still there it's just obscured#but they're going to stop supporting/updating once the new edition is out so it will degrade over time that's why I'm switching#just waiting for Black Friday because FL Studio may be cheap but I am cheaper#dear diary
