Walter's Werebeaver Story
And my theories about Woodie, based on nothing but my superior mind, intuition, and some dream that I had.
WEREBEAVER_STORY = {
lines = { {duration = 3.0, line = "Did I ever tell you the tale of the Werebeaver?"},
{duration = 2.5, line = "I went looking for him myself, you know."},
{duration = 3.0, line = "They say he was once the owner of a big lumber company,"},
{duration = 2.5, line = "who gave the order to clear-cut an entire forest"},
{duration = 2.5, line = "against the wishes of the people who lived there."},
{duration = 2.5, line = "For this, they say he was cursed..."},
{duration = 2.5, line = "If he or his company cut one tree too many,"},
{duration = 2.5, line = "he would turn into a hulking, hairy beast,"},
{duration = 2.5, line = "with axe-sharp front teeth."},
{duration = 3.0, line = "He lost everything, and hid himself away in a small cabin,"},
{duration = 2.5, line = "deep in the heart of the woods."},
{duration = 2.5, line = "But it was not enough to satisfy the curse."},
{duration = 2.5, line = "People say he's still there, roaming the wilderness,"},
{duration = 2.5, line = "gnashing his long, fearsome teeth!"},
{duration = 1.5, line = "..."},
{duration = 2.5, line = "Well, that was the story I heard anyway."},
{duration = 3.0, line = "Mr. Woodie's never told me if it's actually true..."},
So first of all. This is the closest to Woodie lore we have ever gotten in YEARS and AGAIN its via Walter and not Woodie directly. Second of all, the last line implies Walter has asked Woodie directly about his curse but the man WON'T SAY ANYTHING!! I'M GONNA STRANGLE HIM!! Third of of all, LOOK AT WATER HE'S SO CUTE GOSSIPPING ABOUT HIS DAD 💕💕💕
ANYWAY. I don't actually think Woodie was some bigshot company owner, he's just so down to earth that I can't see it. I think Walter's story is just a local legend that the locals who have spotted the werebeaver came up with. Since these kinds of urban myths are spread through word of mouth like a game of telephone, they often evolve into something different than what the original source stated.
HOWEVER, as scientists we must consider all options, so let's dive in.
Theory #1 - Walter's Story
Woodie owned a big lumber company, gave the order to cut down too many trees, and was cursed to be a beaver by the locals or some kind of supernatural power protecting the locals.
The lumber company could've been a family business, which would explain why his parents named him Woodie. Walter implies he's asked Woodie if this story is true, but Woodie remains tight lipped. Woodie doesn't mention his past too much and he seems like the reserved type, but he doesn't seem like a liar, in fact he strikes me as an honest man. Even though he's a changed man, Woodie's most likely ashamed of his past, being a greedy business owner with no regard for nature. If he's ashamed, he probably doesn't want Walter knowing the truth, but also doesn't want to lie to the kid and say he was cursed a different way, so he neither confirms or denies it.
Plus this is the closest we've gotten canonically to anything relating to his curse's origin.
Theory #2 - Walter's Story (in my dream)
Woodie was hired to get lumber from a forest, cut too many trees on sacred ground and was cursed by the spirits that rest there.
Yes I dream of dst, moving on. So this is very similar to the one klei gave him (I'm a prophet), and this is the one I actually believe happend. Since this story is so similar, (he chopped too many trees and faces the consequences), his reasoning for neither confirming or denying his origins to Walter remains true for this one too.
Tumblr media
Now we all know he controls his curse via kitschy idols, which resemble totems. According to the wiki, the word totem derives from the Algonquian word odoodem [oˈtuːtɛm] meaning "(his) kinship group". You know who else has connections to that area? Woodie.
Tumblr media
Woodie mentions a lot of places/things from all over Canada, my guess is his lifestyle is just more nomadic than the average person. I think he took a job at Algonquin Park (logging was allowed under strict guidelines) and maybe cut into an area he wasn't supposed to. Once he realized he was cursed to be this man beaver monster, he ran off far away to hide away in a small cabin in Vancouver Island. At least, that's the island I think Walter's map most resembles.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Theory #3 - Alter
Woodie got cursed by magic relating to alter. How? Idk, there are multiple ways this could've happened but that's not the main thing I wanna focus on because at that point it's semantics. What I wanna know is why is woodie still cursed?
If the moon cycle is what causes his curse, why is he still affected in the Constant? The moon is not actually a moon there, it's Alter, some kind of deity. If the curse affects him both in the constant and the real world, I think there's more of a connection between the constant and the real world than we originally thought. It's possible that the moon in the real world is a medium for Alter's influence. Or maybe if we wanna get more bizarre with it, they're actually one in the same. Alter just can't or won't be perceived in the real world for some reason. I don't think it's too far fetched to think there's some kind of connection there. After all, we know there's shadow stuff in the real world, why not moon stuff?
Anyway, that's all the time I have for today, these are my most plausible explanations to Woodie's curse. If anyone else is actually reading all this, I'd love to hear thoughts and even different theories, maybe you have one I haven't thought of.

Lmao so while me and some friends were in line for the meet and greet in LA we noticed Sik K was looking mad lmao like damn who slapped his mama?? But we didn’t take it personal, shit he’s human too🤷🏽‍♀️ but when we were next to take the picture he just was obviously not into it. My friend felt intimidated to even ask him to sign her album, I wasn’t paying Sik K anymore attention because woodie godchild was at my end and he was the sweetest- like the sweetest celebrity I’ve ever met lol
Like my heart belongs to woodie now omg he was so cute. But yeah after the picture (which let me include my friend was scared to get to close to Sik k so she just leaned near him lol and he didn’t even smile in it) when we were hugging them bye, his aura was whack period. Tbh the concert was fun but not as amazing as I expected like maybe he was tired? But dude I was sooo hype to meet him finally since being a fan since SMTM. I’m a little let down but that won’t stop me from supporting him. Also, Woodie and Sik k both came off the stage at the end but Woodie stayed the longest speaking to fans- and what I’ve learned about him, his English is eh but he really tried for us. In conclusion lol I had a blast and I don’t hold anything against Sik K one bit💗
OK thanks for the info. I had an experience like this with an idol group member last year. But I already knew that he wasn’t that big on interacting with people. He was nice though after the picture and fansigning(he just didn’t like taking pictures in certain pose and it SHOWED even if he didn’t realize I saw it lol). He was also more fun on stage.
But yeah, he was probably tired. These world tours are HARSH! I really wish these artists would stop doing one city a day/every other day. Like nah, you need some down time after about 3 shows. Especially if you are going state to state and country to country.

Best Bachelorette From Each of My 10 Favorite BokuMono Games
This is the companion to last week’s list of best bachelors. I’m going to try very, very hard to not have the Witch Princess show up three times on this list, but I don’t know how I’ll manage it. Let’s find out together.
First, An Honorable Mention: Elise
Tumblr media
The first Story of Seasons wasn’t on my top ten list, but I wanted to mention her because she is objectively the best-written marriage candidate in the whole series. I was kind of hoping they’d do the same thing where they give a candidate a whole character arc before you can even begin courting them seriously in Trio of Towns, and they kinda did that with Inari (in that you don’t have to be dating them to see all or most of their events), but I would’ve liked to see it done to the same extent as it was for her.
I never actually got around to marrying her because I started my game over like an idiot near the end of Year 2, but I will eventually get around to doing that.
Plus, she’s kind of a mix between Witch Princess and Luna, my number 1 and 2 ranked bachelorettes overall, so that’s pretty awesome.
1. Animal Parade: Luna
Tumblr media
So Luna’s a bit like Skye in that I’ll always go into their game thinking to myself “this time I’m going to marry somebody else”, and then half the time I’ll end up going for them anyway.
Luna has some of the best dialogue in the series. The line that made her my favorite in this game is the one where she’s all like “You seem capable, but some times you really aren’t. I have to fuss over you” (or something like that), and at some point in Tree of Tranquility she tells you you smell like cow shit. It’s pretty great.
2. Sunshine Islands: Witch Princess
Tumblr media
The Witch Princess is awesome. She’s the only bachelorette I’ve married in the Island games, which is going to make the next entry somewhat difficult since I can only speak to surface impressions of the others.
I mentioned a couple years ago on my main blog (I’m not going to even try to find the post) that one of the things I like so much about her is that very few mischievous characters in fiction are adult women. They tend to be man-children, or regular children, and when those regular children are girls, they’re almost always tomboys. Witch Princess is not a tomboy. She doesn’t seem to care much about her hair, but she wears a dress and likes likes teddy bears.
Basically, she’s different and fun and cool and I love her.
3. Island of Happiness: Lanna
Tumblr media
Not a season goes by that I don’t complain about how much I hate idols, but I really like Lanna. They could’ve very easily made her either stuck up and lazy, or a ditzy airhead. She can be a bit of a ditz, that’s not really her primary character trait. She talks about wanting to get her career back on track, but she also seems perfectly happy with things as they are.
Her personality doesn’t deviate too much from idol standards, but she’s still a sweet girl who likes fish and never acts like she’s better than anyone else just because she used to be famous, and if I were to ever decide to marry someone other than Witch Princess, I’d probably go for her.
4. Hero of Leaf Valley: Aurelia
Tumblr media
I’m not actually going for anyone specific on my currently playthrough of HoLV because I’m curious to see which girl confesses to me at the end of Year 2 just from my going about my usual business (judging by heart colors, it seems it’ll mostly likely be either Lyla or Gwen), but Aurelia is a cool lady. She’s the cool big sis type that I don’t generally go for, but seem fun to hang out with. I bet she gets into drinking contests with Woody all the time. I also bet she tends to win.
5. Harvest Moon DS Cute: Leia
Tumblr media
Why oh why did the Best Friend system have to go? I know it only ever existed to cover up a glitch, but I would’ve liked it to stay. Maybe one day we’ll get a remake that has it. That’d be nice.
Anyway, I like Leia because she has green hair and lives in your duck pond and her Japanese name is Lettuce.
6. Back to Nature: Ann
Tumblr media
I like all the Mineral Town bachelorettes except Mary, but Ann was the one I married the last time I played Back to Nature. She said our baby looked like a monkey so I named it Monkey.
Don’t really have much else to say about her. I like Ann. She’s cute.
7. Harvest Moon 64: Elli
Tumblr media
All the girls in HM64 have great character arcs, but Elli’s is the best. It kinda sucks that you have to essentially kill her grandma to get to her great character arc, but those are the sacrifices we must make for the sake of character development.
8. Friends of Mineral Town: Karen
Tumblr media
Karen’s cool. She’s the same type as Aurelia, but has that cool hair (even though in this game it’s actually all blonde, which stinks). I like that she gives you free grass seeds. That’s nice of her.
9. Story of Seasons: Trio of Towns: Siluka
Tumblr media
Even though crossdressing is a thing in this game so I could technically be a gay dude with my pick of the litter, being misgendered bothers me way more than not being able to date a dude as a dude, so I still play a character the game recognizes as male. And, even though I’m currently going for Inari because they’re the closest thing the game has to a gay option, Siluka makes me laugh and I always marry characters who make me laugh, so I was married to her briefly (I ended up starting over. I have a problem).
Also, fun, somewhat unrelated side-story, my first time through, when I was still deeply infatuated with The Ridiculously Handsome Guy, I started going for Kasumi, so we could be each other’s beards. I didn’t stick with that plan, but it was something I seriously jokingly considered for quite a while.
10. Rune Factory: Mei
Tumblr media
Story Time!
Back when the first Rune Factory came out, my siblings and I were obsessed. As a result, we had multiple copies and multiple DS’s to play them on, so I was able to get the level 70-whatever fish to marry this mean lady. I was really disappointed she wasn’t in Frontier, cause even though she’s a mean lady (and do we ever find out her backstory? I don’t think that we do), she’s also a cool lady.
So, there’s the list of the girls. Why are blonde bachelorettes always cool? I mentioned last week that I don’t like blondes, and this list is making me look like a liar.
Oh, well. Look at the spinny cow.

What Is Zombie Land Saga? I Don't Know, But I'm About to Make a Lot of Guesses
In the age of pervasive social media, it's almost impossible to keep spoilers for upcoming works completely quiet. Whether it's a visitor to a filming location or a quick snap from a smartphone, assiduous fans will make sure that something gets out. It's to the point where a major part of entertainment marketing has become deciding how much of the story to spoil oneself, just to beat the detectives to the punch.
Then there's Zombie Land Saga, where all bets are pretty much off.
The upcoming "100% original" anime is the result of a collaboration by MAPPA (Yuri!!! on ICE), Cygames (Umamusume: Pretty Derby), and Avex Pictures (Juni Taisen: Zodiac War). It's a powerhouse trio, with each participant implying a very specific skill set. But during the entirety of the series's promotional period, from announcement to pre-screening, what exactly it is has remained a mystery. That's not going to stop us from making a lot of guesses, though.
So, what can we expect from the upcoming anime series that promises to be a new twist on the zombie horror genre? Here are at least a few possibilities, admittedly with varying degrees of likelihood:
  Canonical Zombieland Expanded Universe
2009 survival-comedy Zombieland was a hit when it first came out, establishing itself as America's answer to Shaun of the Dead. Featuring Woody Harrelson as "grizzled man with a past" and Jesse Eisenberg as "nerdy protagonist," it took off quickly. It also made all of us oddly nostalgic for Twinkies.
It's been confirmed that a sequel film, Zombieland Too, will be happening. For a while, there were plans for a television series featuring a different cast of characters, but this has been stuck somewhere in the depths of Development Hell for the last five years or so. While the sequel film is set to start filming early next year, the series is not so luck.
Could this be a new attempt to resurrect the TV project? After all, the zombie genre is a global phenomenon. Not to mention modern zombie anime series like Highschool of the Dead have dropped cheeky Zombieland references, so we know it's at least a known entity in Japan. Perhaps the upcoming series is Zombieland's version of Fear the Walking Dead.
Likelihood: 2%. Normally it would be a flat 0%, but Bill Murray is a wild card.
    Mamoru Miyano's Fever Dream
One element of Zombie Land Saga is unmistakable, even with the secrecy: Mamoru Miyano is a major part of it. The Free! and Death Note voice actor seems to have assimilated himself completely into the world of the series. Or maybe the character is him? We're not entire sure at this point. The lines are a bit blurry.
Either way, the show's official Twitter has graced us with videos of Miyano cosplaying his own character, accompanied by a stuffed toy of zombie-dog mascot Romero. He seems to be completely into the whole world of this show. Is he just in character, or could it be he's seen all this before?
Likelihood: 85%. We are completely ready to believe he's having a weird dream and we're all along for the ride.
12 Episodes of This Dog Having a Nice Time
Speaking of the Zombie Land Saga Twitter, this Romero plushie has been a recurring star of their media. Pictures include him advertising for pre-screenings, going to the park, and enjoying squid snacks.
We don't know anything about Romero except that he's a fluffy zombie pup with an A+ referential name. We already like him, though, and if the show ends up being anything like the Twitter, that would be delightful.
Likelihood: 10%. We hope Romero is having a nice day anyway.
They'll Make It up as They Go
Zombie Land Saga is promising a zombie story the likes of which we've never seen before. That's a pretty daring statement, considering the last decade or so has offered a wealth of films, TV shows, anime, and beyond offering different takes on the genre. So what if they just make it up as they go along?
Indie projects — and even a few high-profile ones — have been known to alter their work last-minute in order to either follow or steer away from audience predictions as to what will happen next. What better way to create a thrilling, unpredictable new addition to the genre than to follow what fans are predicting and change courses whenever they get too close to getting it right?
Likelihood: 0%. Anime doesn't work this way.
Idol Anime in the Zombie Apocalypse
One of the few things the trailers have divulged to us is the fact that the character of Sakura (voiced by Kaede Hondo) is an aspiring idol. A quick look at the cast also shows us something very interesting about the characters: all six leads are cute girls. (Technically all seven, but Tae has no voice listed yet, and she also looks slightly not-alive.)
Not only that, but their variety of design is awfully reminiscent of idol anime and games. Each is significantly stylistically different from each other, enough to be recognizable as a certain "type." Sakura's design fits the standard "normal girl trying to make good" trope of so many idol group centers. All six girls also perform together on the OP and ED, according to the information we have so far, which seems indicative of a unit.
The biggest tell is the producers. MAPPA produces just about any genre of anime, but Cygames and Avex work in much narrower fields. The former is predominantly a game producer that has only recently branched out into anime. Its primary productions are anime adaptations of its own games, such as Rage of Bahamut and the aforementioned Umamusume, the latter of which is heavily focused on idol training.
Then there's Avex: a music producer. Their projects are multifaceted as well, but titles like King of Prism and Popin Q stand out as being music-centric. They've handled music for several productions, but listing them as an equal third of the staff drives home the importance of music in this work.
If anything, the more you look at it, the more Zombie Land Saga seems like the seed of a 2.5D idol project with zombie overtones. Could it be? Am I going to have to clear more space on my smartphone again?
Likelihood: 95%. I was kidding when I started this section but I think I may have figured it out.
Right now, only a small group of fans know the truth, thanks to a screening at which they were sworn to secrecy. Fortunately, we'll know very soon, when Zombie Land Saga starts streaming on Crunchyroll.
