ngl i spent most of the day zonked out watching the legend of vox machina so im kinda unintentionally replicating that style

assigning PJSK characters media i've enjoyed at some point that i think they'd like:

Ichika- Omori (themes of a friend group drifting away... yeah. is it ever actually said if Ichika likes gaming? cause i get the feeling that she would)

Saki- Lego Friends (the Lego itself i imagine could've been a fun activity to pass time during her hospital years, but i imagine her also being entertained by the various animated series)

Shiho- Sumikko Gurashi (she seems to like cute things secretly, plus two of the mascots are penguins)

Honami- Strawberry Shortcake (i loved it when i was younger and it has such Honami vibes, she canonically likes baking and desserts, as does Strawberry Shortcake's titular character)

Minori- Little Witch Academia (i feel like she would soooo relate to Akko's insane persistence and ambition despite not succeeding immediately. plus, cute witch show and Minori is cute, and a witch in that one card set)

Haruka- Octonauts (can imagine it being a favourite childhood show. like me, her favourite would definitely be Peso, the penguin character)

Airi- Disney Princess movies (especially the ones with a lot of action like Brave, Mulan and Frozen)

Shizuku- Lego Elves (the prettiest Lego theme in my opinion!! Shizuku gives me the vibe that she'd like fantasy :D)

Kohane- Adventure Time (idk i can just imagine Kohane liking cartoons in her free time)

An- She-Ra and the Princesses of Power (action and friendship and lesbians!!)

Akito- SK8 The Infinity (just... vibes. also cause i saw a post once that pointed out the parallels between him + Toya and Reki + Langa from SK8)

Toya- Your Lie in April (can imagine the character of Kousei hitting him pretty hard, even if his circumstance wasn't quite as extreme as Kousei's)

Tsukasa- A3! (it's fitting for W x S in general though since much of the story at the beginning is about restoring and saving a theatre. Tsukasa would probably relate to the Tenma in THAT game due to both of them having, err... self assured personalities)

Emu- Hello Kitty (ESPECIALLY that old series, Hello Kitty's Furry Tale Theatre!! loved those when i was younger and i think it's perfect for Emu- cute iconic cat mascot AND theatre)

Nene- Six the Musical (she likes musicals and that's one of the only ones i've seen soooo)

Rui- Voltron Legendary Defender (you know he tried to recreate the robot himself)

Kanade- Witch's Heart (i believe canon says that she likes video game tracks but doesn't play them herself cause she gets lost in the music, and Witch's Heart has some great music)

Mafuyu- Coraline (perhaps the Other Mother would somewhat remind her of her own...)

Ena- TBHK (i think, like me, the unique art style of that anime would have caught her eye)

Mizuki- Barbie movies (especially the ones that had fashion elements like Fashion Fairytale and Thumbelina)

okay. so voltron’s second season (”seasons” 3-6) were. well.

i have to say that i sort of vastly preferred the first production block. i definitely think the show was more in its element with the episodic “defeat zarcon” stuff than with... to be honest, i have no idea what’s happening.

i mean it started off pretty good. could have gone in a lot of directions. i was interested in the idea of lotor, whose ideology seemed to be a very good contrast to zarcon’s but still seemed to be a good villain. a darker side to the alteans, the fact that the lions can bond to multiple paladins, etc etc etc.

like idk, i know there are people that would take issue with it but it would have been kinda cool if various characters could bond to the different lions sometimes, and the relationship with each one could reveal something about the character. like maybe it would have been a contrast to zarcon, who was hyperfixated on the black lion and thought that because it was the leader, it was the Important One or whatever.

anyways this is called “inflammatoryfandomblog” and it’s time for the griping.

-> the plot is about quintessence, which... the galra empire depends on for some reason, even though it was really the druids we’ve seen use it before, and they were destroying whole planets for the stuff and using it to power zarcon’s little ego “i’m going to get the lions trip.” it’s kind of unclear what else uses it. and i think that’s like my main issue with this season/production block? aside from the S1-like episodes, it feels very muddled and hard to really get into.

i just. am trying to make sense of lotor’s plan. or haggar’s plan. or what they each wanted. or what even what quintessence does. quintessence seems to be like, a... theme-thing... for being too entrenched in the past and what you’ve lost, and so being poisoned by it is losing sight of the present by trying to recreate it. at least that’s what makes the most sense. it’s not, uh, subtle--but it’s not used well enough to relieve it of the Magical Bullshit feeling. 

(this is something she-ra has over voltron; whatever plot magic BS happens is generally woven in better, thematically, with adora and glimmer and catra--but this just might be because there’s a lot less characters and she-ra very early on drops the pretense of being political in any way; it’s the type of series that’s very transparent with that--it says “yeah lmao our world doesn’t matter this is basically a basic family story with princess/scifantasy icing”, while voltron is very different in this regard, and so this approach does it no favors, because how it developed its world was a very good selling point for me in the first production block)

like “oh we just offer them more quintessence and they’ll listen to me” seems like a really bad justification for......... anything......... and idk if they even needed that plotline, i feel like lotor wanting to create an “inclusive/fair empire” is a pretty interesting oxymoron without the weird altean magic stuff. that haggar also unlocked. somehow. i wasn’t very invested in it i suppose; it failed to sort of convince me at any point of being true to the setting, which was a real strength of the first season.

-> i remember being miffed at the lack of shiro/lotor interactions (i mean, the lack of interactions sort of gave it away that this shiro was not worth investing into, especially since it was so telegraphed that druidlady was controlling him, but i was annoyed at the time) because i dunno, real!shiro and lotor could have built up an understanding re: being forced by zarcon to do bad stuff. generally the shiro clone plot is very meh, i feel it would have been better if a) the “real” shiro was actually taken to be some sort of trojan or he’s dead and the clone has to reckon with what it means and be an actual character or b) shiro’s spirit guided them and he was a mentor figure the entire way through, only getting back into a body at some point or another.

generally the entire clone plotline was just kind of worse than most possible alternatives to it, including having both shiros be alive and kicking. as it is now shiro is basically the same as the one from the first production block and can’t have changed.

-> for a second, since most of my predictions panned out in some way, that shiro *was* actually going to be zarcon all along. that would have been wild. similarly a very funny alternate universe is one where the gang splits the comet, gives half of it to the evil alteans and half of it to the galra and simply lets them fight.

-> i liked that the characters went off and had lives/missions outside of voltron (or at least, pidge/keith) and had a few episodes dedicated to those. those, aside from the early “season 3″ episodes and the fun one-shot ones were very enjoyable breaks from the mostly incoherent main plot. i had fun watching them instead of being like “hmm. so this is a Thing now” in the Main Story 

i really feel that ultra-dramatic storytelling is not these writers’ strong suit. which, fair, i mean, i’m not a writer, but i don’t think it’s a stretch to say that they’re a lot better with episodes with some implications as opposed to long, serialized, dramatic structures as a group. i think it might just be a matter of experience; most cartoons until the 2010s were very episodic, and longer stories just have more production/meddling complications which are non-trivial, whereas with episodes, if something doesn’t work... you can just dump it. but episode-episodes also don’t play well with streaming. just kind of an unfortunate media-landscape conundrum there.

(note that japanese animation for example, while it’s very serialized, most of the time has the benefit of having source material already laid out for it. really the equivalent of something like that are like, comic book shows i guess.)

-> animation is really stellar and action is very good. studio mir is great. they always stick the landing.

-> i guess i like that they tried to do something with the idea of “the evil emperor is dead/gone, now what?” which is kind of a difficult plot to write honestly, especially when the main cast are transformer-power-rangers, it’s not obvious how to make them relevant enough to have the focus on them. (and in classic fashion, i don’t really like making suggestions.)

-> lance is going to get with allura nooooooo. i was really invested in the idea that he defects because of a hot girl. instead he just gets jealous of lotor. the sad thing is i really think they could have been at least good friends (lance/allura). the scene where allura replicates trying to flirt with the blue lion is really funny, and lance bringing out everyone’s goofballness would have been a good variant on his general archetype. instead lance is mostly Annoying and gets a few disconnected Scenes. i can’t even really think of a good lance episode this season.

-> pidge baby though. she’s obviously flawed (esp with the prisoner exchange stuff like wth lady) and like. the main plot is dead to me at this point. but i really liked her side episodes. same with keith etc etc.

-> predictions for next season (if i get around to watching it):

-> 1. sendak (zendak?) invades earth. “YOU EARTHLINGS DEFEATED ME LIKE A CHUMP... LOOK WHO’S THE CHUMP NOW???” -> 2. allura and coran start a cow extermination policy -> 3. everyone gets sent to a mental institution and they have to break out -> 4. haggar does some quintessence bullshit and tries to revive lotor or whatever. zombie lotor is horribly mangled and rips a hole through reality again! -> 5. shiro binge-watches all the series he’s missed in the time he’s been dead. he likes kdramas or wuxia. not anime though. -> 6. ?????? lance becomes embroiled in cuban politics. just randomly. (he’s the one who likes anime.)

So I’m sending you this here because you’re not really active of @tenshindon anymore but it’s okay. So what have you seen if the new My Adventures with super? Spoilers it’s great it’s literally the Teen Gohan saga it’s just perfect perfect perfect Clark is Gohan and yes Lois is Videl but like not a complete 180 degree bitch or a desperate damsel house wife she’s spunky but still sweet it’s actually what I wish the really Videl got.

i havent been able to watch it: i dont have cable so i cant watch it on tv, and i dont subscribe to streaming services

despite that though, i havent heard too many good things about the show but i also haven't heard anyone say its TERRIBLE: it's average/slightly-above-average at best, mid at worst according to what ive heard. while everyone can agree this show's iteration of superman has been one of the best in years, the show still comes up short in some aspects like animation during fights and the whole lois-gets-mad-at-clark-for-not-telling-her-he's-superman bit despite not only loois' method of getting the truth from lark Literally Insane And Dangerous, but the fact lois finding out about a secret identity had been done before and had treated her reaction more maturely

but again i havent been able to watch it myself, so i dont have an organic opinion aside from the fact i cant look at it without the art style reminding me of voltron or she-ra

I figured since I've been on Tumblr for a little while now, I ought to tell you guys a bit about myself.

So, hi! I'm A.

Communities I'm part of: otherkin/alterhuman, plural/DID, autistic, ADHD, queer, disabled. (If you have a problem with that stuff, then I honestly don't know why you're on Tumblr, of all places.)

I LOVE writing, both original stuff and fanfic, and I have too many WIPs to count because my idea machine never turns off. I really need to find the switch for that thing. Currently on Draft 3 of my first full-length YA novel.

Other hobbies of mine include doll collecting, baking, crying over fandom edits on YouTube, and having objectively way too many Spotify playlists.

Absolutely yes to the first question. If TOH had stayed solidly in my heart, you'd probably still have me writing for this fandom for years to come because I'm stubborn like that. I am not the sort to join a fandom only while it's airing. Things I write as much fanfiction as I have for TOH aren't fleeting fancies for me. Hell, just because I love Luz, Amity and Boscha so much from my early days of writing them, I'll likely still keep making fanfiction of them or having my original works inspired by them going forward. It's who I am. As for other media: OF COURSE! You can honestly ask me asks of anything. I am admittedly slowing a little to doing one large ask a day I think, in part to just let some of the statements get to be seen more easily by more people. Also because I still don't get that many asks. I would also encourage not to just ask about media I'm familiar with because unfortunately that amount is pretty small, especially in the past decade effectively. But if people let me know they're interested in my thoughts on a property, it can help motivated me to watch it. Frankly, I'm just bad about watching scripted content because it makes my brain go brrrrr in ways that things like Youtube videos or livestreams don't and that can be... Rough sometimes. I have so many ideas already that I'd love to work on and getting more inspiration can be painful when I'm stuck in a slump like I am now where I'm struggling to write. Hell, despite wanting to be able to claim I did a chapter of a thing on an ask tomorrow (which does mean tomorrow's blog got changed by a new ask that I immediately wanted to answer), I'm answering this because my brain doesn't want to let me write still despite the fact that I am getting my energy back. Just need to do more than take walks with it. But yeah, after I moved out of my parent's house eight years ago now, I kind of stopped watching most television. One of the last cartoons I really kept up with before The Owl House was Randy Cunningham Ninth Grade Ninja (good show. Not perfect but a TON of fun and great for kids). Voltron, She-Ra, Paranormal Undead Park, etc. like that have just skipped over me. If not for my nephew, I'd likely have never started watching The Owl House and even then, I stopped somewhere around Adventure in the Elements with him. It took THE Lumity animatic for Little Miss Perfect (which the animator later took down... just like the creator of the popular Ordinary listed hers as private... Boy were those not fun moments for me as I started losing my ability to write again) to get me into the fandom and into the show proper. Honestly, one of these days, and probably sooner rather than later, I should do a Post Mortem on The Power of Love to talk about what inspired that story, what the goal was, all of its twists and turns, etc. like that because that story means SO MUCH to me and it could be fun to gush about it. Anyways: Yeah, send me your asks on anything, I don't care much about spoilers as I'm still enjoying Amphibia despite knowing how it ends and the like (my next episode is The First Temple and honestly there's a few blogs I could already do about how great Amphibia's writing is) and maybe it'll finally get me to watch some of these great shows I've missed!

Castlevania is the Best Netflix Cartoon Exclusive of all Time.

Out of all cartoon that came out of Netflix, Castlevania is the best Netflix exclusive cartoon series I have ever seen in a while from beginning to the end.

It truly impressive that a series based on a video game. which is usually not good, is surprisingly amazing, especially how faithful to the source material. With the end of great series, I believe it’s time to talk about how good the show is and it single handily became the best Netflix cartoon series of all time.

The Characters Are Given a Personality 

So in the game, the characters of Castlevania have a character, but in the series, the writers decided to give them a personality and works well. 

Such as Trevor Belmont, he isn’t your typical naïve hero that helps people with no questions ask, but a drunk outcast that likes to drink and sleep. His introduction is him getting beaten in a bar. It takes a while for him to realize to use his monster hunter skills to help people.

It’s not just the main cast that gets screen time but it’s also the antagonist and support characters are given the same amount of character work as the heroes. The series gives time to show their motives, and development. It makes the vampires, night creature, and supporters to Dracula more human. 

Dracula wants a peaceful life with his wife, Lisa, and spend time with his son, Alucard, but the humans have to kill his wife because they think of her as a witch. Causing him to go on a massacres the human race. 

After the downfall of Dracula, Isaac wants revenge on the people who betrayed his master and the ones who killed him. However, after traveling, and interacting with the Captain, the Merchant, and the Old Lady, all he wants is to live and build a better world for people. 

Lenore found out she was living a lie and will always live in a cage because she’s a vampire. She lived in a life to a tool for someone and her vampire nature. She despise her master, Carmillia plan for needless bloodshed to get what she wants. Her only freedom is her to commit suicide by watching the sunrise. 

The character writing is so damn amazing and I can’t believe their based off 8-bit characters with no actual character. 

The Animation is a God Send 

The animation is so breath taking and it gets better every season, especially the fight scenes. 

Castlevania References in the Series 

The references in the series to the games is well put out that it doesn’t force. 

While of course there’s the scene they use from Castlevania: Sympathy of the Night.

But there’s tons of  details that reference to the games such as 

Castle teleporter is the save room from Castlevania: Sympathy of the Night

Trevor Belmont newest weapon, the cross from most Castlevania games 

Trevor found the morning star from a hidden wall, just like every other Castlevania games. 

It just shows how much the creator and the writers knowledge of the series. 

Conclusion

Out of all Netflix cartoon series I’ve watched previously such as Hilda, She-Ra and the Princess of Power, Voltron, Kibo and the Age of Wonderbeast, and Carmen Sandiego, Castlevania is the best Netflix exclusive I’ve watched. It had good character writing, animation, and respect for the source material. I do hope the show gets a sequel series to show Dracula and Lisa traveling the world, Isaac and his night creatures, Hector writing his book, and Striga and Morana building their own kingdom,
