If you're in the RainCode community you can target anyone, but as you know, my main targets are Yuma and Makoto. If they're also your faves and who you decide to use, that will make me extra happy!

Some tips for anyone new to drawing a sick day scenario art. A few things that make it look convincing are the following:

Pajamas or Loungewear

Messy Bed Hair

Fever flushed face w sweat or at least a red nose

Tired Eye bags

Shivery body

Ice Pack or a Compress on the head

Thermometer sticking from their mouth

LOTS OF BLANKETS

Tissues or medicine surrounding them

Tea or Soup (or both)

Those are just to name some from the top of my head. If you'd like some pointers on how to make a character look ill, check out my Fever Coloring Guide. This is for digital artists but traditional artists can try it too!

You can add injury or angst to the scene but I'd like illness to be the main focus of it.

The scene can be anything you want to, it can be fluffy and wholesome (with a caretaker) it can be angsty, or it can be silly. Its all up to you! Do it for the sake of fluff! Caretaking scenes are the best for any kind of relationship >w<

Either way, have fun with it!! I look forward to see what people make if they decide to give it a try! It doesn't even have to be a full on picture! Doodles and sketches are fine too! Just show me something >w<

Volume 6 Thoughts

Geri is about to catch some hands. Girl cannot take no for an answer and is beyond delusional when it comes to Joyo. Telling her off felt good.

Why does Joyo's little pouty face get me every time? It's so sad and cute at the same time.

No Travis, I don't want you, I don't know how many times I have to say it.

I'm sorry, but why do none of the couples change anymore? There was so much drama last week and still nothing changed.

The sleepwear options are cute, especially the teddy. My MC is fully embracing her Barbie era with all the pink outfits this season.

I've seen quite a few other people say it, but why the hell do we need to sneak out to the daybeds? I want Travis and Geri to know we don't want to sleep next to them.

Joyo mentioned in casa that he loves dirty talk and girls whispering in his ear. Idk if the other boys said that or not in this volume but it is a Joyo specific thing in my head now.

All the boys smell like cedarwood apparently and I reject it. Joyo's a scuba diver from a beach town for Christ's sake, he should smell like the sea and maybe something like bergamot. Not cedarwood (that should be Alex specific and I'll die on that hill).

Bits scene itself was short ànd kinda lackluster.... I don't have time to rewrite it, but it's tempting.

Okay, again, idk what the morning chat looks like for everyone but I was kicking my feet and squealing like a little girl. It was established in casa that Joyo hates camping and sleeping outside, but he goes on this little rant about how much he enjoyed sleeping under the stars with us and how we're the only person he'd do that for. Can you say swoon-worthy?

Okay, on a non Raf route, Daph is adorable. I love her and Raf together.

Movie night titles were way better this season. I particularly liked 'Jumping for Joyo', 'Geri Much In Love', and 'Daph-Need Your Love'.

But the movie night drama was not it. Wow, a bombshell came in and flirted with me, call the press! Thank God Evan said something. The rest of the clips felt contrived or like they were just there to make Geri look bad (can't Joyo just pick me cause he likes me more and not cause Geri's a hot mess hypocrite?)

Can we also just appreciate that when I say my head isn't turning, everyone knows it's still on Joyo. We've been asking for this since casa s2 and it's finally, consistently remembering who I said I want to be with no matter how many people are interested in me.

Date with Evan was fine. Love that he seems to respect the word no. His sprite is fine AF, but I really just want him to be my villa bestie.

Love how soft and melty Joyo is one on one now, it's precious.

I absolutely howled when Joyo came to pull me for a chat and talked right over Geri's protests. She was so shocked.

Yes, Joyo! Admit you're a jealous motherfucker and let's get back together already!

Travis. Get it through your head. I'm telling you I'm closed off with Joyo, that doesn't mean I want to keep getting to know you like that. I don't want you.

Flowers, really? Kinda hoping they actually aren't from Joyo (and think they might not be just so FB can have him be jealous and start more drama). It's a little weird honestly and an interesting choice for a cliffhanger.

Still really enjoying this season for all its faults honestly. Joyo has me in the palm of his hand and I'd happily go with him anywhere. Not totally sure I see the vision for where they're gonna take the rest of the season, but as long as I get to keep flirting with Joyo, I'm good.

Thoughts While Watching Gilmore Girls- Season 2, Episode 22 (Last Episode of the Season). "I Can't Get Started" Part 4

Aaaaand we've finally arrived at the finish line for Season 2. I began recapping this season on November 25th, 2022, the day after Thanksgiving...310 days ago. SaltyGilmores! SaltyGilmores! Can you tell us a little about how you're feeling as you prepare to begin season 3?

You ever watch a Stars Hollow crowd scene on Gilmore Girls and go, who the hell are all these people and where did they come from?

This is so ridiculously corny and cute. This is what we live for. This is what Gilly Girls is all about. You ever see some of the spicy tight and low cut blouses Lane wears on this show and wonder how Mrs Kim ever allowed her out of the house? I'm asking the important questions today.

R: I'm about to cheat on your ass so hard your head will spin. I am gonna kiss my stepcousin so hard.

D: (pointing to Miss Patty, Babette, and the Stars Hollowans gathered around the piano) How many cocktails caused that? R: None, but when they start drinking we're going to have to hide you. One of ASP's favorite recurring jokes is the one where Miss Patty, left to her own devices, would inevitably try to force herself sexually onto Jess and Dean; it's unclear in this scenario whether that is the threat or if it's "we're gonna have to hide you or she'll make you sing.". But I can take a guess here.

There's another sexual predator who loves tall pretty teenage boys lurking around this wedding that you should be more concerned about.

Dean gets a "We're calling to discuss your car's extended warranty" call and pretends it's someone important on the line so he can keep fooling Rory into thinking he actually has a life. Uh, anyway, it's Paris? Calling Dean's phone? Alright.Rory asks Paris how she got Dean's number but It's never explained. Paris is a wizard.

Sookie is having her wedding on a Friday afternoon. It is a Friday and Rory is not in school (AGAIN!), Dean, Lane and Jess are not at school (AGAIN), Rory is missing ELECTION DAY at school where she may potentially be elected Vice President, Lorelai is not working and making Michel fill in for her, there are dozens of other people attending this wedding who are not working, IT'S A FRIDAY AFTERNOON NO ONE IS WORKING (EXCEPT MICHEL) OR GOING TO SCHOOL THEY'RE ALL AT THIS WEDDING. Also, everyone is DRUNK on a Friday afternoon. Well I can't hate on that. What else is there to do in the Hollow besides drink away your troubles? Headmaster Charleston: Miss Gilmore, would you care to explain these multiple unexcused absences? Rory: Well, two weeks ago I ditched school to take a bus to new york city to eat wieners with my cousin and this week I skipped school to go to my mother's friend's wedding which she scheduled for the middle of the afternoon on a Friday, and I had to stick to my agenda of going to the wedding and kissing my cousin. Paris doesn't directly say that GellerMore won, but Rory thinks it's implied (and we already know they win). She proceeds to notifiy Dean. Who is just...over the moon upon hearing the news.

Well...okay. Fine. I'll take it. Where's the angry posseiveness? Like the time Rory wanted to spend time away from him volunteering? Or spend one night away from him doing her laundry? Or spend an hour eating lunch with Jess? Or.. It's probably because this time there are witnesses around, although that would imply Dean actually has some level of self awareness that his behavior is inappropriate. Speaking of Inappropriate...

Well, that answers THAT question.

Levi's characterization at the Valentine's Event and why I live for it (Spoilers)

Am I here to overthink about Levi's writing again? Hell yes I am. I guess I'm analyzing this event and his role in particular because not only I enjoyed it, but also it had so many interesting aspects to notice I needed to point them out. Now that the event is almost over, I hope I'm not spoiling anyone!

I was a little bit taken aback when I played the event and noticed how Levi centric it was. I still have no idea why they made the decision of basically make him the protagonist but you won't ever find me complaining, I love that demon.

(is this the character oriented event for him? Like we had with Satan and Barbatos? It wasn't stated as such, so I'm curious)

So, recapping a bit, a curse triggered by Beel made all the chocolates of the Devildom disappear, threatening Valentine's day. The brothers need to fix it since they're all simps and want to give us chocolate. In fact, Levi is highly motivated to fix it since he wants a special Ruri-chan chocolate (and we later find out there's more to it).

So, Levi's role starts with the Abstinence Brigade (lmao it sounds so funny), where he makes sure everyone is following the plan of not doing the things they love the most.

I won't lie, I was laughing the entire time because he was just SO ridiculous. Exactly as I love him to be. He was loud and annoying, but above that, I was actually nodding at the screen with how consistent he was.

See, if anyone ever had any doubt this guy is a military genius since his role during events is mostly having weird ideas and fanboying over any otaku stuff (*ahem*... Comic relief), I assure you it's not that much of a strange concept.

It's a simple role he had in here, but that didn't make him any less bossy and strict. For someone who's quite sensitive and self deprecating, Levi certainly has a way with how he can give himself the right to command his own brothers, and I assure you this is not the first event I remember him doing it (it's kinda old at this point, but for example the Manga event was all him ordering his brothers around to make a good manga and scolding them for doing it wrong).

He can be really insecure, but when he knows he's right he's very stubborn and you won't convince him otherwise unless you can prove there's a better way or someone more competent to do it.

Now, moving on.

We find ourselves with the two routes. The normal one has this interesting dialogue, with Barbatos pointing out Leviathan had this piece of knowledge that could work out. I shit you not, I laughed at how Levi was once again relevant because there were at least 6 other characters that could've taken that role.

When did he even mention that? Lmao. Who cares, the guy has already been carrying the entire event on his back.

So ok, we all got to see he was particularly invested in fixing this situation, looking for solutions and having an active role. But that doesn't stop here.

The neutral route is saved thanks to Diavolo, Barbatos and Simeon and, yay!, everyone gets their little chocolate gifting scene if that's what you chose.

But still, the goddamn route still has an ending scene with him particularly. WHY. That was a surprise, but not as much as...

The unlockable route 🔑

So the story has moved and nothing worked from the original plan. Mc and Beel head to the cafeteria at night after hearing a rumor about an evil spirit appearing there at 3am. Turns out it was... Levi. Levi trying to cook chocolate because he needs to fix everything and restore chocolate in the Devildom.

I'm not gonna delve into Levi's growing as a character, romantically speaking, because I believe it's pretty noticable to anyone. He's not as much as a hater as he was before, and since he's in love, he actually appreciates Valentine's day now. That was really cute and made my heart go doki doki, of course. But c'mon, let me talk about his bossy attitude and sassy remarks cuz I live for them.

His way of speaking is always direct and blunt, even sounding mean. But what I love about it is the fact he never intends it as a passive-aggresive personal attack. It's more like an objective take of the truth and him feeling entitled to it (man that's some extraverted thinking if you're into MBTI). It might not be to everyone's taste, but it certainly is mine lol

Moving on, not only he feels responsible, but since the plan with all the brothers failed he's actually trying to solve it himself. Since MC and Beel are helping, now he's leading and guiding what to do next.

So it kinda fails as well and Beel gets horny weird all of the sudden. So here I absolutely adored this dialogue.

Hell no, he's not going to get moody and self deprecating, he's kinda confident now you two are a thing now.

Also, Beel can kick his ass and he'll still stand strong. Man, I love a "loser" (cuz we all know he isn't) who's willing to fight for me.

But the last thing I wanna remark from this scene is how, when he needs you to prepare the antidote while he distracts Beel, if you pick the choice where you're insecure about it, he does it himself. Like, I thought he was gonna be like "you can do it!" But no, he takes the time to prepare the stuff himself. And without any bickering, he thinks fast and does it quickly.

Man, how can I not be a simp when this guy's character is so multidimensional and consistent? Yes, he's weird, loud, has crazy ideas all the time, and is always described as annoying and disgusting for being a hardcore otaku.

But damn, he's also dependable, strong and intelligent. As much as he's in his own head and his own world all the time, he's quite practical, detail oriented and good at problem solving. And as I mentioned before, this is not the first time we see him like this.

(also, have you all seen the lyrics from the song "Trigger"? The guy does a 34 seconds rap on how he's smarter than others might think, he actually sees everything, but somehow he's still insecure. fuck, his character is so coherent it's even flexing at this point)

A long time ago I made a post about my own expectations regarding Grand Admiral Leviathan, and this event is feeding me even more to believe there's so much interesting material to work with Leviathan's character. It's so funny how it starts all comic relief, but turned out to be so good he's third at the popularity contest. OM Nightbringer, I surely hope you can deliver and do justice to all this potential.

Did I write too much? Yeah, but I needed to make this analysis and appreciation post.

HAS SOMEONE SENT YOU YOUR DAILY DOSE OF POTASSIUM FOR THE YGO MEME? K (Yugo from Arc-V!!)

YUGO MY SWEET BOY YUGO

For anyone who hasn't been around a long time, Yugo used to be my Number One brainrot boy. I still love him dearly and get all giddy and squeaky over him, the fixation is just not turned up to the max anymore.

Why I like them/why I don’t I just love how.... easygoing he is? He takes being flown across dimensions by himself like he took a wrong turn somewhere. He's a smart boi who built a D-Wheel from scratch with his best friend as a pre-teen. He's introduced by crashing into a street lamp after another dimension jump and just Keeps Showing Up here and there, never knowing what's going on but always ready to throw hands or make friends. It's so funny. He's wears his heart on his sleeve and cries like he has nothing to be ashamed of. Yugo's just a joy to watch.

And despite being usually relegated to comedic relief, he's actually one of the strongest duelists in the show. Second ever time we see him he OTK's three Obelisk Force soldiers at once. And that contrast is v appealing to me.

What I like about their appearance His eyes.

Yugo has Such pretty eyes. Anyone who's read my Yugo-centric fanfiction knows I cannot keep myself from mentioning them. I love that his main colour is white! You don't see that very often for characters of his type. And his blue bang is v appealing, and I love taking snapshots when it moves. He's so expressive as well!

Also he's cute. You can't tell me he's not.

Do I prefer their dub names or original names? He got to keep his name, thankfully.... Not that he was safe from weird spellings regardless who's Hugo. don't know him

OTP Dimensionshipping! I think it's very fun, and great to build AU's around. Inside it I like all yuboy pairs with Yugo except for Pawn, which I'm lukewarm on. It's just not my thing.

NOTP Don't have one. If a fic for a Yugo ship I haven't thought of or isn't invested in seems well-written and appealing to me, then I'll read it.

Favourite card they use Clear Wing Synchro Dragon. One of my favourite yugioh dragons ever. I adore the crystalline wings, the long tail in place of legs, and the colour scheme is so appealing. It's also so pretty in the anime.

Favourite moment they were in I can't choose help-

Okay so, I do have one I can highlight, that I don't think many would pick. But it's all of episode 54, which shows what happened to Yuzu and Yugo after they were teleported away at the Maiami championship. I think this episode is a good showcase of the Full Yugo Personality Package. All that's missing is a scene where he cries.

We see him being concerned but not very thoughtful, hotheaded when he gets seriously annoyed over Yuzu getting his name wrong. He's willing to talk and answer any questions Yuzu has if he can, and even takes mistaking Yuto for Yuri rather easily. He's a bit too eager when he gets an idea in his head, and when Yuzu breaks down in tears, he's quickly apologetic for being pushy. Doesn't tell her to stop crying, just gives her a handkerchief to wipe her tears, aplogizes and that it was his fault, and just... talks to her.

And he's so gentle?? He tells her about Rin, and it's so obvious that he loves his best friend so much. And Yuzu quickly calms down. He's just a very sweet, caring guy who can get too passionate sometimes. It's big "too good for this world" energy with Yugo, with 'this world' being the synchro dimension. It makes you wonder how bad his interactions with the Resistance in the Xyz dimension must have been for Yugo to be hostile enough to be labelled their enemy and even get a nickname among them, even if it's from people misunderstanding his name.

But then when the situation turns bad and they're discovered by Tops in an area they're not allowed in, he's immediately locked in and focused on Getting The Hell Out Of There with Yuzu. He knows when to get serious, and he doesn't mess around when it comes to the law enforcment of his world.

Least favourite moment Don't think I will ever forgive Arc V for destroying Yugo and Rin's D-Wheel. And for having Rin be the cause of it.

I don't mind loona but I wish she was black and not white coded for the "sake of being goth because white people go goth trope" I wanted to see Viv make a black female main character and tell us a story through her lens as a black character. I felt it could be interesting because she's a hellhound and vortex is also there and hellhounds are basically treated as unequal or like animals especially being locked up in cages or are used as slaves such as bodyguards or whatever. We could've told so many black stories that need to be told with a black female lead for the community. Sadly Loona is white and I wished for her to be black to tell black stories for our representation as black people but I mean... We got what we got out of Viv and she's horrible at representing many things not just gay characters but POC characters that also get 0 representation, pushed to the background or have like two character traits as mains especially the women characters she refuses to make groundbreaking.

I get telling black stories but with a character like Loona and how she acts animalistic in the story and is treated like one by even the creators with how she acts compared to the others who just act like regular people for the most part besides occasional sounds, hell, they get to go to regular doctors- including imps! But not hellhounds, and this is all played off as a joke about her situation, no sympathy, just outright playing it off as a "cute joke!" that she's constantly discriminated and treated like an animal, only giving her sympathy for a "white/non-black" savior story with Blitzo?!

The show tries to present how she's treated in Ep 5 as "cute" too, not even once does Blitz say "Excuse me, my daughter is not a dog- take her somewhere else or you're gonnna get it!" as instead the story is played straight and she's even physically abused by Blitz by being slammed to the ground in this episode, is treated like an animal more than usual just because she's mute (ableism), and not once does the episode address how abusive Blitz is towards her, how they put a cone on her head as a "joke! haha cone of shame she's like an animal for being the worst treated minority in the show harhar!" (badly done/racist racism allegory), Blitz even goes in the first episode "YOU GET A TREAT NOW! :)"- Blitz treats her like an animal, M & M treat her like an animal, the creators treat her like an animal, and they play it off as "cute!" instead of disturbing like it should have been at all times instead of just for a "non-black savior" story, it comes off as unintentionally racist as a racial allegory as they're presenting the minority's situation as "cute!" with the "you get a treat now!" scene and episode 5 of s2 being used as yet another excuse to treat her like an animal and have her act animalistically just because she's the lowest social tier as despite being raised by Blitz, Loona full on goes on all fours, is whistled to and is given treats. HB presents this as a "she's a hellhound/black person -they're born this way, give her a treat lol!" (racism) and it's mostly shown as a "joke!"

It's "Loona goes Feral" at: 0:42. The floor literally fucking breaks, she's outright physically abused here, is treated like an animal by Blitz constanstly, and the "white savior" is treated like "the hero" for it and she's made out to be "the animal" (both in how Loona acts and with how she is treated) in the situation just because she was born as the equivalent of a black person in the hierarchy- If this isn't the most racist racism allegeory I have ever seen in a show, I dont know what is. Look at the thumbnail, they even gave her rabies, and this is supposed to the "the black part of the social hierachy since they're the ones that are the lowest area and are enslaved." wtf?! She even acts even more like an animal at a time where she can't speak just because she's the show's version of a black person. While Stolas acts 99% human and goes to a hospital just because he's not a hellhound, in the same ep, despite being also a furry, while just because Loona is the equivalent of a black person in HB's universe, she's treated like an animal for being the lowest social tier minority, plus acts like one more than the other characters, despite being raised by a character with almost zero animalistic behaviors, just because she was born as the show's equivalent of a black woman- as a "joke." They treat her just like an animal by whistling for her, bargaining her with treats, putting a vet collar on her (the hellhound equivalent of chains!) and threw her to the fucking ground and the show presents all of this as "cute!" or "ok!". The writers only make her act as if she's "more" of an animal not for how she's raised, but just because she was born as a hellhound (black woman) and this is played off as "she acts more animal-like because she's bla- a hellhound!" and treat her like a dog too, and what makes it even more racist is that it's all treated like a "joke!" in every single ep whenever it's something about her!

-and just to make this worse, Loona is characterized as an abuser of her family (abusive black woman stereotype) and all of this is being played off as a "joke" to mock the fact that she's the show's equivalent to an enslaved black person- mocking the fact that she's the lowest tier in the social hierarchy and mocking how she's treated like an animal, and having her act like an animal just because she's a minority and to make it worse, all of which is treated like a "joke!", and this is only taken seriously once for a white savior story!

How does no one realize how racist this "racism allegory" is?! Also, the creator supported blackface and lied about having done so as a coverup instead of actually apologizing and then hired a writer that likes to use black stereotypes in his content- so she's genuinely a racially insensitive person! It's awful!

Midnight is one of theeee best episodes on television and ten is so good in it he's also particularly good in waters of mars tho I do wish the time lord victorious was dragged out a bit longer like for another episode or so before that finale. I like him. he's also kind of stupid like if he just hadn't tried to be all poetic describing the cards in the first trial he never would've been caught??? and come on now why is he using the same fancy rare nail polish that he poisoned as a gift. Zero Men - Volume 1

Now that I've finished 0-Sen Hayato, this manga was next on the list, another oldie. At least this time it's by the Godfather of all manga, Osamu Tezuka. I think this is his first work I've ever read??? Apparently no one cares about it because there's very little English material on it. Oh well, the main character is cute!

Ch. 1

Omg I'm loving this so far! The art is so dynamic and cute and the dialogue is really colorful too. The protagonist Ricky is adorable ;w; I love his tail.

That was a pretty badass and hilarious opening with the two soldiers fighting a pointless war while also low key bonding over a baby they saved.

Ricky crying when his dad told him his tail was something to be ashamed of broke my damn heart! Glad the dad isn't fully evil though. Just misguided...

Kind of weird that the dad is like "I swear I'll find you a doctor!" Like dude...you've had many years to do that and it probably would have been easier when the kid was an infant.

Ch. 2

Obvious parental death is obvious. Ricky sure got over it quick lol.

So, so far we know that 0 men can survive extreme temperatures, are really fast learners, and have great agility. I think this is an Elfen Lied scenario where they're supposed to be "evolved humans." Making them squirrel like was kind of a weird choice but oh well.

The professor's design where he basically just has a cloud for a head reminds me of Dr. Uranus from Cyborg 009. Peak old dude character design lol.

Losing one dad and then instantly meeting your real dad is pretty wild. The emotional whiplash made it all feel kind of rushed and silly. It's nice that Ricky doesn't feel like a freak anymore tho. Kind of an ugly duckling story.

Ch. 3

Woah, suddenly the story gets very different. Forget the evil scientists, it's time for robot demons apparently! New bad guys are Enma (Buddhist God of Hell) and Satan. Fun for the whole family!

Enma kinda looks like one of the guards from Squid Game lol, simple but menacing

The scene where Enma and Satan make an entire lighthouse disappear and the keep jumps out to save his life was effectively frightening. I wonder if that guy will come back as a witness?

All of Tokyo is ripped apart and put back together in like an hour and everyone just shrugs it off!? I know Japanese people can be complacent, but not THAT complacent!

This chapter felt like an anti-communist message with every house being exactly the same but "something's missing." I googled it and apparently Tezuka was a communist, but only for a short time before he changed his tune, so it's still possible that's what he was going for.

Ch. 4

So apparently the professor is a good guy now (despite first impressions) as he teams up with Ricky to investigate Enma.

We learn that 0-men are closer biologically to squirrels than they are to humans...riiight. The adults definitely looked more squirrel-like at least.

Pretty savage of the professor to shoot up his friend with a gun to "check if he's human" (including a shot to the head!?) Reminds me of the original Stepford Wives when the MC stabs her friend in the crotch.

The way Tezuka draws the prime minister feels very Looney Tunes. He's very rubbery.

Ch. 5

This manga is very text heavy so the average chapter takes me a bit to get through. Luckily, the Japanese has been very easy so far! (Rare for an older manga...)

Ricky and the Professor escape the clutches of King Enma who was planning to kill them if they didn't reveal the whereabouts of the 0 men. They end up in the forest where Ricky finds his mom and dad again. They ask Ricky to return to their country with them but he turns them down because he's vowed to be an "ally of humanity."

I can see why King Enma wears a mask...he's pretty dweeby looking under there. I like his mad scientist hair though. The fact that his face is a little disfigured gives Darth Vader vibes.

Ch. 6

Ricky and the professor try to alert the public about King Enma's take over. People start to be swayed, but then Enma just kills anyone who tries to join the resistance, so they don't get very far. By the end of the chapter Ricky is captured again by another power hungry person after the 0 men. Gdi Ricky...

I know it's for plot convenience but Ricky's tail pops out so easily that you'd think they'd come up with a better strategy for hiding it than stuffing it into his pants by now.

Ch. 7

Ricky splits up from the professor and finds himself captive on a boat. His 0 men parents come to save the day (apparently this was like a 0 men slave ship) and they knock out their captors.

Ricky just did a dramatic goodbye to his parents in chapter 6 and now he's back with them again? Make up your mind, story!

I was proud that I was able to read the kanji 船長. The videos I've watched of Marine-Senchou (vtuber) helped me out with that one.

We end the chapter in the jungle of the Himalayas. Maybe we'll learn more about 0 man culture?

Ch. 8

Uhhh wtf!? Ricky's dad just dies in an avalanche and they're like "meh, whatever!" Seriously Ricky and his mom recovered from that way too quickly. He might not really be dead, but they believe he is!!

It was cool seeing how the 0 men have been evading humans by living in a place that's only reachable by their species. That felt believable. I bet their land is nicer than the weird place Ricky was living before anyways. No dictators (I hope lol)

Ch. 9

Lol my previous statement was immediately proven wrong in this chapter. Ricky basically went from living in 1984 to Brave New World. I quickly went from enjoying learning about 0 men culture to being like...oh...that's not good.

Kind of confusing that Ricky's mom would intentionally bring her son into this world if she knew how messed up it was? She even is like "here's our apartment where we'll live as a big happy family" but then Ricky learns that kids are separated from their parents super early in this world and sent to live in a children's village. Like...did she not think of that??

Why was chapter 9 like 3 times longer than chapter 8? Well, I've been enjoying the kanji reading challenge. This manga has no furigana...

Ch. 10

Man this story is cyclical. They escape, they get captured, they escape, they get captured. Tezuka also seems to have ditched who I thought was the main villain for now. Will this whole thing be episodic or will we get a real plot?

They come across some yeti in their travels who say "yeti yeti" like Pokémon lol. I wouldn't mind seeing them make friends with all the cryptids, but the visit was very short.

Ricky's mom asking him to shoot her tail off with a gun was pretty dark. It does seem like it would make their lives a lot easier to remove their tails (in hopefully a less painful way), but I guess it's the principle of it.

Dude at they end looked like a Cyborg 009 character with his giant buttons and fancy hair haha.

Ch. 11

And just like that we gain another random party member (and Ricky's mom gains her 2nd adopted son in like 2 chapters). Ricky and Pete bond over their daddy issues.

I was wrong, they did bring Enma back. He reveals that his new, Communist version of Tokyo was inspired by the 0 man way of living, so I guess that explains that.

Like I said, we're going in circles here. Now we're back to looking for the professor Ricky befriended in earlier chapters. After the gang finds a safe place to live, then what? Are they going to save the world from oppressive regimes? Is the goal to just be a normal, happy family?

Ch. 12

So apparently the professor they eventually find is some kind of fake (even though he passed Ricky's needle test). Can Tezuka decide if this dude is a good guy or a bad guy already!?

Kinda funny how when they found a safe place to hide out they're like "now let's confront the evil people!" Like...weren't you running to hide from the evil people? Well I guess heroes gotta hero.

Ch. 13

So now it's doomsday via Mt. Fuji erupting. Although the gang succeeded in destroying Satan's clone factory, they now need to worry about the fate of humanity.

The version of this that I got from Bookwalker is 4 volumes but MAL has it at 7 volumes, so this must be an omnibus. I wonder where the original volume 1 cut off?

That first volume was kind of all over the place. The plot progression didn't feel all that natural, but I think this was one of those stories that was supposed to be a one-off and then got expanded, so whatever. Let's see where things go in volume 2...

first of all the conversation between oc and her mom made me cry so hard- it hit home for me, as a girlie with mommy issues, that part felt so real to me. Oc's courage to stand up for herself like that and tell her how much she hurt her own daughter is something i dont have in me. It broke my fucking heart, that yearning feeling, i cant believe you put that specific feeling into words rid [are u part of the mommy issues community as well🧐 or are u just that amazing, a true fucking artist (i saw that anon calling you the beyonce of ff and i agree 100%)] idk how to describe my feelings rn, that part definitely left a mark in my heart, ill never forget it

second the domesticity in these two dorks oh my goddddd they're driving me crazy, theyre so cute and in love and im in love with them and i want to cry bc i want what they have but bc irl men suck the hopeless romantic in me is gonna have to live through fanfics for the rest of my life and that makes me fucking miserable but bless the fanfic gods like you that keep my soul alive, idk what id do without you

You really are doing an amazing job rid, not only writing the story, scenes and dialogue, but also the way you write these characters in such depth, its so fucking refreshing to see.

VegasPete Chapter-by-Chapter: Chapter Two

Chapter 2

Vegas gets home at midnight, smelling like alcohol. He has many soft and fluffy feelings about Pete. Boy does Vegas love Pete. Also, he’s confused as to where the bruises on Pete’s sides came from. Pete’s just clumsy. Weird how he managed to be the deputy head bodyguard of the main family when he keeps injuring himself. >.>

Pete cuddles Venice and curses Vegas out for going out drinking without him. He comments that Porsche has been getting home late too, and Vegas is relieved Pete doesn’t press the issue. Instead Pete optimistically tells Vegas he loves “everyone who loves me, who wishes me the best.” Vegas muses that Pete is always stubbornly positive. They kiss, Pete tells Vegas it’s 1am and if Vegas really loved him, he’d go the hell to sleep.

The next morning, we learn Pete doesn’t trust most people with Venice. Pete also, unfortunately, has to go see Thankhun for reasons unspecified. He pushes Vegas to take Venice to work with him instead. Vegas understands because he too does not want to spend time with Thankhun. Vegas tries to weaponize incompetence. Pete is having none of it. “If you don’t know how to change his diaper, open youtube!” 

Porsche calls Vegas for help, and Pete sends Venice off with him. 

Vegas drops Macau off at university. Venice cries upon finding himself alone with Vegas and without Pete or Macau. Vegas makes Nop (currently driver) stop and switch places with him because we're too early in the book for them to get along. At the main family compound, Vegas gives Venice a bottle to shut him up. Porsche is a Sad Boi, turning to Vegas in his time of weakness. Porsche rests his forehead on Vegas’ shoulder, and they hold each other for comfort. Then Nop shows up with Venice and Porsche jumps like they're in a romcom and Pete’s about to misunderstand.

Venice needs his diaper changed and we get a few more comedic paragraphs of Vegas learning how to love his baby brother. Then it’s time for a work meeting! Thankfully, the work meeting doesn’t mind a baby crawling around. This being the book it is, our meeting is an arms sale so of course Venice picks up a gun. And licks a bullet. Denied these delicious treats, Venice starts sobbing again. Enjoy a cute scene of Vegas trying to get Venice to stop crying by bribing him with a car– of course, the moment Venice stops being a sobbing brat he… disappears. Vegas, as new parents do, panics and starts opening every cabinet– fuck his reputation as a scary, cool guy. Pete calls, Vegas pretends everything’s fine while secretly freaking out. 

“Who’s kid is this?” asks Kinn, picking Venice out of a trash can. Kinn found Venice just before Pete showed up (whew), so Vegas pretends nothing went wrong, and hands Venice over to Pete for a shower and nap.

Vegas heads to the study for a meeting with Korn. Korn, as always, acts warm and kind, and Vegas trusts exactly none of that. Beside Korn is Kim, who mocks Vegas for running around looking for the baby. Korn shrugs it off, and suggests that Venice be transferred to the main family’s care. “No one can raise their nephews as well as me,” this bastard says.

Speaking of family, how’s Porsche doing? Since Vegas has been trained since childhood to run the minor family business, he’s been tasked with getting Porsche up to speed. Kinn accuses Vegas of working Porsche too hard– he’s angry, probably jealous and Vegas enjoys it. He respects Kinn and he sees Korn in Kinn. but the real evil is Kim. “Kimhan is a gamechanger for Korn.”

Thankhun interrupts the pissing contest. Vegas came to tell them how Porsche is doing, Porsche is doing great! Vegas allows himself appreciation of Thankhun filling in the cracks in the relationships. Korn comments that brothers should forgive each other. “Use love as I taught.” Vegas, seeing the emotional manipulation for what it is, decides it’s time to gtfo. He looks himself in the mirror and knows he’ll have to play the part of the devil to face the devil in this game.

The Vampire Diaries, Ep. 1x14

Fool Me Once

this title just reminds me of fool for love, which is a damn good episode of btvs. this episode suffers in comparison.

we begin the episode with an excellent joke from my girlfiend (who made so many good jokes during this episode): 'new white boy just dropped? maybe he just dropped dead!' unfortunately, he had not. then, elena looks into the bathtub to see what looked like a dead girl. being a fan of charlie on supernatural, i felt my heart drop. the panic was rising. then elena got closer and we learned it was bonnie and she's not dead. phew.

then, i wrote 'damon i hope you die horrifically,' which i don't remember what he did to deserve. oh yes, he said he hopes elena dies to stefan's face after she's been kidnapped. i understand that he's hurt by elena's betrayal, but this is an extreme reaction. damon makes it so hard to like him.

then we go to a party and i have an extreme reaction: 'nooooooo! (what's this guy's name again?) fuck face! he back' and i wish he wasn't. caroline is wearing a really cute coat. she and matt are also really cute. i want them to stay together for a while because i think they're good for each other.

then, we see damon going to bonnie's grandma to try to find her. and then he gets fucked up! she puts pressure on his head and it seems like he's going to explode. unfortunately, he does not. but bonnie's grandma is such a badass and i love her. this does lead me to a question: are witches uncompellable? i don't remember elena giving bonnie any vervain, but no vampire ever tries to compel her or her grandmother.

then, we get a very compelling scene between damon and elena. elena tries to convince damon that she's not lying to him again. in this course, she asks him why he didn't compel her when they went to georgia. his reply is quite sweet: 'i didn't compel you in atlanta because we were having fun. i wanted it to be real.'

then the idiot trio head to the burned out church and pass by the party. damon is incredibly mean to matt. on the other hand, matt is better than damon and matt doesn't deserve to be subjected to damon. caroline gives matt more speeches, even though, to quote my notes, 'caroline i support you in everything but none of the things you called speeches actually were.' we also learn that fuck face is trying to buy weed from jeremy. then jmpsg shows up and he tells her 'you kinda like dead people huh,' which is actually hilarious.

down in the crypt, we learn that damon brought a blood bag for katherine because he's so sweet in such a weird twisted way. i was also beginning to feel a bit bad for him as we got closer to the end of the episode. there are eight episodes left in the season; he's not going to find katherine. and he's so excited. it's a bit heartbreaking.

bonnie and her grandma start the spell, and then we learn that elena doesn't know anything. she says that the witches are not chanting in latin. which is patently false. it sounds so much like latin! in fact, i recognized some words from my high school latin class. also, there is so much space under this church. the surviving bits of foundation seem so small, but this is a huge underground complex, so what's going on?

then nwbjd and jmpsg show up. stefan takes out his flamethrower, prompting another great joke from my girlfriend. 'oh my god he's got a flamethrower' (me) 'that's hot as hell...literally' (her)

underground, damon has not found katherine. which begs the question: where the fuck is she? we learn from jmpsg that katherine was never sealed in the tomb. she's been in the world this whole time. 'she knew where you were, damon. she didn't care.' this is truly heartbreaking. i hate to feel bad for damon in the same episode where he said he hopes elena dies, but he's just so pathetic. of course, he's also fucked everything up since he threw that blood bag at the wall and blood dripped into the mouth of at least one vampire who escapes at the end of the episode. before that, there are two points to deal with.

one: jeremy is now curious about vampires. i can't express it any funnier than i did in my notes: 'okay now he’s going to google—i’m sorry, bing—vampires.'

more importantly, bonnie's grandma, the best side character on the show thus far (possibly the best character period) has died. i did not sign up for this.

Hell yeah i love that jdkxkck - it's also funny that your fic re-ignited my arc 6 brainrot (i hadn't written about it in a while when you published it, and it got me thinking about the arc again and then i wrote two chapters of my exes fic in like two days lol) but the scene i asked about was sort of inspired by me being very very gay lmao, i guess we inspired each other with our brainrot! You're welcome for the compliments, i just thought it was really in character: Remeny being a sore loser and trying to flirt her way out of it, Beryl finding it cute and almost being charmed by it but not giving in, calling out Remeny for her very dumb cheating tactics (in her defense it might actually be a good tactic, i wouldn't know, i've never tried putting playing cards in my cleavage - not that i have much of a cleavage to speak of lmao), the banter, the "oop are they gonna kiss?", Remeny having to reluctantly admit that her literal genius quartermaster is smart (fun fact Beryl has a 19 intelligence, which is a lot on its own but compared to Remeny's 9 it's kind of hilarious - how have these two been friends for twenty years?), Beryl being good at roasting (good for her), Remeny having no comebacks (possibly caused by a slight case of gay panic) and just making a face about it (also idk if it was your intention but i was 100% picturing a "kid is angry that you won't buy them something" sort of face, like a very dumb look for a grown-ass adult to have but also kind of cute in a way y'know - i think about these two way too much 😳), and just them being FRIENDS! Just besties! (With some slight sexual tension as a treat hehe) - i'm sad we didn't get to see much of that in the arc but idk, i feel like you pictured their dynamic very accurately!

Also don't even worry about seeming too extra about describing eyes - i feel like "electric blue" was a fitting description, when i read it i was picturing a very intense stare, like the kind you feel piercing through your soul y'know (and at least you didn't call them orbs :p)

(and i may have got you beat for dramatic eye description in my very first fic, which is not even a ship fic but does includes the gayest description i've probably ever written: "eyes bluer than the clearest skies Beryl had ever flown, with a piercing gaze that looked like it could strike you down if angered". ... Even in my fics where they aren't in love with each other, they still are lmao)

Okay one last thing about the ship, because i'm curious: were you writing them as having actual feelings for each other and not being sure what the other felt or just flirting? My personal headcanon has changed many many times, but what i actually think was going on was that they probably used to playfully flirt with each other (before, y'know... Everything) but without actual romantic interest behind it, they're more like platonic soulmates - like maybe a sort of unofficial QPR. I don't think they would work as an actual romantic relationship (see my exes fic for proof) BUT i do like the idea of it 'cause it's cute. (basically: i do ship them but i don't think they were canonically in love)

'cause now that i'm thinking about it, every flashback scene ended with some sort of reference to death, right?? Off the top of my head, the only one i could think of is the one with Lottie, which ended with her saying that her ghosts were proof that death didn't mean you had to fade to oblivion (i love her ;_;)...

She used a hand to push against the captain’s shoulder to give them a bit of distance. Remeny continued to back away, eventually slumping into her chair while Beryl continued, “After all, I’m not as vile as you are. I’m not going to be shoving my playing cards anywhere else… suspicious” “You're making fun of me.” “Yes Remeny, because using your cleavage to hide your playing cards is not as clever as you think. Especially when you’re drunk out of your mind and have terrible sleight-of-hand.” The sky pirate captain, a legendary leader who single handedly led her crew through numerous successful feats of crime, shut her mouth, scrunched her nose, and pouted at the insult. Beryl's smile grew wider. “It’s just the truth, captain.” "Ahhh— you're so smart Beryl!” Remeny said as she swiped the stack of cards from the table and aggressively shuffled them for the next round. “That’s why you're our crew’s quartermaster. Onto my complementary below the cut, SPOILERS by the way. If you want to read this for yourself first, check it out on ao3 here.

First of all, you’re compliments are so nice haha. I don’t think I can give you the best answer to how I managed to “read these characters' minds” lol, but perhaps you can clean something from what I write down here.

Some background before I get into the scene itself.

I had this structural idea for this fic, which was done sorta well (I had no idea how to do it for Solas). I think we’ve both heard of the “life flashing before your eyes” before death, and here I wanted something like that for Beryl. But her life consists of her pirate crew, and finally in this fic, herself. Each flashback scene consists of a memory of a member from the crew: Remeny, Lottie, Kipp, and Kix (a small one for Salas, if you want to count that). 

I had different “triggers,” some more obvious than others, to initiate a flashback. In the one you chose, the flashback with Remeny, begins with Remeny collapsing in real time. Each other time a flashback occurs, someone is either dying, or in the case with Kipp I just had his flashback sequence come as Beryl was dying herself… I couldn’t find the perfect place hahaha. Additionally, each flashback ended with an ominous reference to death in some sort of way. I mean look: if DM Gus didn't nerf his combat (good choice), Death is what would have happened for everyone in a TPK. 

And well, I like to think of my fanfic of the version in which DM Gus didn’t adjust. The player characters in my fic have trouble speaking, continually take “cold damage” from the water, and Beryl ends up dead.

Alright, let me transition into the section you asked about specifically.

I was thinking of what would fun moment could link Beryl and Remeny together, and I immediately thought of the scene that happened during canon Arc 6. Them playing cards, (I think?) Remeny winning, and Kix doing this preprogrammed Beryl vs Remeny scoreboard. This means that Beryl and Remeny? They have HISTORY with this. They fucking love playing cards against each other, and they’re like rivals about it. So I had to choose that as the backdrop to Beryl’s flashback with Remeny.

But any memory with Remeny would be a moment filled with chatter/teasing/roughhousing/accusations but in the best way possible. Like, in the way that you’ll call your best friend a “Bitch” and roast them, but it’s all in good fun and you don’t actually mean the insults. (We see how this dynamic is bad during Arc 6 Episode 6, but most of the time this is the extent of how far Remeny will go.) So I had to have Beryl and Remeny banter. Of course the first thing Remeny would do if she lost would be to accuse Beryl of cheating.

Now, this next part I’m going to talk about is funny, because it wasn’t until talking with you/ reading your fics (of course other people were part of this too) that I started seeing Remeny/Beryl as a like. Ship ship. Which is stupid, because they literally have all the pieces and parts that would make any large fandom squeal with delight (gay rivals to lovers!). Although this fic is posted without any romantic pairings, I really leaned into that. This scene was meant to be read as possibly romantic. My treat for ya ;)

That’s why Remeny leans forward, and they’re foreheads are touching. It’s tension: are they going to kiss? Her eyes, I nearly settled into the fanfic trope of overembellishing them, but I think electric blue is exactly the vibes I wanted. In my head, I think Remeny wants to kiss and is pushing her luck… that is before Beryl pushes her captain away, and that’s why when Remeny relents she’s slumping in her chair (Like “dammit Beryl, a kiss just this once?” / “No. Kissing me won’t make me get rid of your loss.”)

During this physical moment, they keep up that friendly banter I was talking about earlier (in fact this banter continues throughout this whole section haha). The best thing for Beryl to do is bring up one of Remeny’s past cheating schemes, because let’s be honest Remeny’s definitely cheated before, and is smart about it. Like, Remeny is being hypocritical for calling out Beryl for cheating when the captain has done it before. But of course, I mentioned they’re rivals with inside jokes right? So Beryl’s going to choose the most embarrassing moment she can muster which for the writer (me) I had to ponder a bit. So like. What the fuck would Remeny do? 

Of course it’d be cheating by hiding cards with her boobs.

And like, damn that’s a good roast, so Remeny let’s Beryl have it (captain cannot think of anything else to roast Beryl back and concedes that Beryl won without cheating), and in her lack of a comeback she also admits that Beryl’s smart: that’s why she wins in cards (and wins Remeny’s heart but also this isn’t explicit).

And finally, my odd foreshadowing of death to end the flashback. “Now, if I was quartermaster, we would have all been dead a long time ago.” ← that’s what I mean. 

But it felt too cruel and ominous to end the flashback there. I mean, that’s not what the memory felt like! I didn’t want to warp it like that when the current “present” scene was so tragic, so I ended it off with them continuing onto another game. Past Beryl and Remeny are having a great time. And that’s what makes their deaths feel worse.

So... I run this blog, yeah? This one, a ShadAmy ship blog, in the good year of our lord 2022.

Why?

I like the ship. You say, 'yeah no shit dumbass,' but I really like the ship. It is the ship that formulated a blueprint for my fleet of favorite ships all under one flag. It is my ship of dreams.

And I'm not someone who grew up with Archie, which is where a lot of old-school shippers come from. I knew ABOUT Archie and what I knew scared me. Even post-reboot, I didn't want to touch it. I was firmly entrenched in the games and the games only (to a large degree, I still am. They are the only actual 'canon' in my opinion, no matter the many cool things IDW and Archie may have done.)

I'm also not someone who just wants to see their fave in a cute ship. They're both favorites of mine -I like them both separately just as much as I like them together.

So why the fuck did I love these two characters together so much when they hardly even talk?

This moment.

Because it was always going to be this moment.

I'm about ten years of age playing this game, my mind being totally blown by the plot and the characters, and it all comes to a grinding halt... to talk.

But me liking this scene didn't happen right away.

It happened in stages.

(Trigger warning. Heads up for mild mentions of gaslighting and issues with eating disorders. Shit you not, this is canon to their history.)

Part 1- Why do I like Shadow?

I knew from the start I liked Shadow.

There's something about a character that is not a 'nice person,' but they are, very much, a 'good person.' They are, in their own way, trying very hard to do the right thing.

Shadow was designed as a weapon, first and foremost. That's what G.U.N. wanted them for and that's how Gerald found his funding, even if he was also designing Shadow to be a cure/aid for Maria on the sly. Shadow went through a lot of hell because of that. Yet regardless of his history, he still makes the decision to get up every day and do his best to solve whatever situation is in front of him, bit by bit, striving steady forward to make the world a better place.

Too often, the messy, personal business of having to recognize your faults is minimized for the protagonist and amplified for everyone else that they are with. Especially in recent media (last 10-years ish, in my opinion,) you don't get a lot of protags that might not be likable all the time. You don't have that moment where they realize what they have done, are reeling from guilt and self loathing and shame, and have to make the conscious effort to do better.

But Shadow is.

This is a character who was gaslight (actual genuine memory manipulation with malicious intention I CANNOT make this shit up), fed a lie for purpose, their personality weaponized. Their love turned into an atomic bomb.

Then, they had to unlearn that and become themselves again.

I want more heroes like that. I want heroes that were or could have been villains, and instead of and dying in a last redemptive act (as if it makes up for everything they have done), they live... and they have to keep living. They have to keep learning. They have to be... you know... people.

I know a lot of people debate over whether or not Shadow as actually suppose to stay dead after SA2, and in everything I have read, the evidence seems inconclusive. Either way, I'm glad they brought him back. I'm glad they made him live and learn (pun intended) and choose to be better. Not as a weapon, not as a cure, but as themself.

That makes for a great story and character study. That's always the sort of thing I want to sink my teeth into and stay awake reading and rereading and coming back to it with new eyes.

Furthermore, Shadow... well, they are a person who scares people. The design, the demeanor, the articulation (or lack thereof) in regards to motivation and thought. It doesn't matter if they mean to, it happens.

And they're fine with it.

They don't need to be verbal all the time. They don't need to understand social cues or unspoken rules. They are allowed to go off and stare at nothing and think in the quiet because it's comfortable. This guy was living my fucking dream.

Also, Shadow was also my first introduction to Nonbinary Thoughts that I had ever seen. This person walks in with their highlights and eyeliner and fluffy self with their dope kicks and sweet color pallet and a cool voice and I had all sorts of joy lighting up inside me. This was like glam rock. This was like seeing Mercury or Lennox for the first time, or realizing that sometimes, the chick-parts in theater productions are played by boys and the dude-parts are played by girls. I dunno how else it put it. It's the moment you go, 'ooooh,' before you flip the flimsy table that the binary gender code has placed itself upon.

This fantasy hedgehog bastard and I have a lot in common, and I've leaned on that a couple of times to remind myself I'm not alone because, for the longest time... I didn't know any living people who had gone through what I had. I have since found friends over time with similar situations, and they all mean the world to me, but Shadow for years was the imaginary friend of a lonely kid who scared the other kids.

That means a lot to me.

Part 2- Why do I like Amy?

I use to not like Amy.

(As such, the order of thought for this segment is going to be different. Sorry in advance.)

I hasn't played any other Sonic game before SA2, so my first encounter with her was not the best. I didn't understand why she was here. I didn't understand why she acted the way she did. I didn't like her voice actor, or her dialog lines, or how she was just written as 'the girl'. Every other character got to be cool and do shit and be playable and Amy was just There(tm). Later I played SA1 and realized she was cool but how she was written in every game seemed to just be decided by dice. Yeah, they used the same dice, so the basic characteristics stayed the same, but the way they were portrayed or portioned fluctuated drastically. I never knew what she was going to show up like.

And that's partially on me- I was stuck in a binary jam as a kid. Still, even beyond that, she as a character and I did not gel.

And then I played Sonic Battle.

I keep saying I need to replay Battle, if only to get evidence of this. There's a part of me that wants to believe I made it up, just to avoid the implications, but I know I didn't.

In Battle, like in SA1, SA2, and 06, you play through multiple perspectives of a story (always did like that sort of gameplay.) During the story, you get to be both Cream and Amy, and you find something out during this.

Amy has an eating disorder.

This may be a headcanon, and I am biased, but this obsession to the point of illness with her weight and figure has appeared a couple of times including out if gameplay (I know, breaking my own rule about game canon focus). For an older example, there's an issue in the Sonic manga Spin and Dash where Amy falls for one of Eggman's schemes for weight loss since she's worried she's gaining weight. She then comes back emaciated, asking Sonic and Tails if she looks pretty. Most recently, there is official art of Amy punching a punching bag with a picture of ice cream on it while Germal watches, which is a direct reference to that I am about to relay.

In Battle, you go against Amy several times in a form of combat called Boxercising. Canonically, it is stated that Amy got into Boxercising to get stronger and help out more on missions, but then became obsessed when she realized she could lose weight. Though Cream protests all the 'training' saying Amy is too tired due to her lack of eating and constant training, Amy keeps insisting she wants to go another round. You do this a few times, and then, it is revealed that she has been wearing weights this entire time.

I use to wear weights all the time, around my ankles and under long pants so nobody noticed. I did it to try and lose weight. You want to know what happens when you do that? You fuck up your ligaments and tendons. I had to take a second. Then, I went back to the game. It got worse from there.

After the fighting, Amy passes out. When she awakens, after a bit of dialog, she asks then-Emerl how she could loose more weight. The robot proposes a ridiculous training regiment and a diet in which Amy is to only eat salad leaves and some other minimal insane bullshit, and though Cream is horrified, Amy insists she can do it.

And I hated it.

I hated how of course it was Amy. I hated how this was played for laughs. I hated how they'd pick the Girl Character(tm) because eating disorders are coded girlish apparently and once again I'm sitting there hating everything to do with everyone but especially whoever thought that was funny or let that mistake (if it was a mistake) slide or whatever. I was angry.

But it was at that moment I saw Amy in a new light. I had never seen another character go through this, not in the way I did. I decided to go back and give her character a second look.

What I found upon putting aside my own self loathing was a wonderful character. Yes, she, like everyone else, suffered from tone changes between games, but at the core, she was a really wonderful person doing the best she could out of love for everything and everyone.

Yes, she is stubborn and maybe sometimes a bit selfish. Yes, she has tunnel vision and sometimes that causes a problem. I will remind the court that the kid in canon is 12/13 and which one of you was the perfect preteen? I reiterate my point about flawed protagonists. I reiterate my point about multifaceted characters. I reiterate my point that a person is allowed to be a person and that makes them better than a cardboard cuttout that can be projected upon.

She's not a manic pixie dream girl, she's a fucking supernova.

She loves her friends, her found family, her home, her planet, the strangers she meets on the street, everyone. This girl will remind you to take care of yourself right before she throws hands with god. This girl is a badass because she loves fiercely and terribly. No, not in the 'cool, masculine way' that seemed to be the only permissible volatile love I saw in media, but in her way.

It's not a thing that just is. That sort of love comes from wanting to love. Making the conscious decision to love, and act on that love, in the best way a person knows how.

Just like you, or I, or anyone else.

And how deeply, how furiously, how passionately and totally a person can love everything, anything, and in spite of whatever is going on, decide to act on that love with a desire to do good for the sake of doing good.

That means a lot to me.

Part 3: The Ship of Dreams

We come back to this moment, because it was always going to be this moment.

An unstoppable force meets an unmoveable object.

But they are not on opposite sides. In fact, they are very much on the same side. These two love fiercely and terribly. They want to do the right thing. They are willing to sacrifice happiness and safety in order to achieve that.

And once they realize this, they work together to do the right thing out of love.

This post, I think, does a very nice job of elaborating on a facet of that concept.

“saved by love” and “choose recovery because loved” look similar on the surface, perhaps because the end results look similar, but they’re so different really. It’s passive vs. active; a story is about the person who’s making choices, being proactive. If Character A is saved by love, then it’s not them the story is about, it’s about their savior, Character B. If Character A chooses recovery, then they’re the one the story is about. Character B is the side character this time.

One is the narrative of taking what is broken and fixing it. It is not about the ‘broken’ person, it’s about the ‘savior’ who ‘fixes’ them.

One is a tale of healing. It is not about one person ‘fixing’ the other, it’s about the person who makes a conscious decision to not let their pain define them.

In one, the story is about the person who loves the hurt person, and the hurt person’s pain is incidental to the main character’s arc. In the other, the story is about the hurt person themself, and the other person’s love is incidental to their arc.

I hope I’ve said this well enough. My words may not be coming out the right way to express what I’m trying to say. Sometimes they do that.

Love to me is being in lock step, hand in hand, walking forward together.
