on a more serious note, the whole controversy surrounding ovechkin's recent comments is just yet another reminder that the NHL (and other hockey leagues but ESPECIALLY the NHL) still needs to make some changes in order for queer fans, players, coaches, gms and every other person involved to truly be accepted. NOT some performative profile picture changes. NOT simple social media posts from NHL teams. NOT some feel-good story over someone coming out. NOT introducing special jerseys. NOT getting rid of said special jerseys anyway in order to get rid of "distractions" (still furious over that). ACTUAL. CHANGE.
#serious#repitition#nhl#alex ovechkin#<-filter reasons#seriously though ovi what the fuck#i know it was taken out of context but even with context that was BADLY worded my guy#this shit combined with [censored because this is a mostly politics-free blog] is slowly starting to make me lose respect for you dude#also i'm not saying that special jerseys or pro-lgbtq social media posts or coming out stories *aren't* making a difference#because they are making a difference don't get me wrong!#but they're not actual change either#we need shit like stricter rules on bigoted comments and more inclusive language when it comes to players fans gms coaches etc#we need people in hockey to be educated on queer subjects especially if they come from places that aren't queer-family (like ovi himself!)#we need the nhl to actually start kicking out fans who spew out homophobic shit at players!#THAT kind of change
