im so so sorry for not finishing this up earlier but i think i've finally ironed out a couple more details around my personal worldbuilding project :)

anyways: LIMINAL AMERICANA (alt title: liminal americana) is a world centered completely around a single, infinite road. while the Road can twist, stretch, loop around and engage in all sorts of other spacial tomfooloery, it doesn't branch, or break. at all. ever.

anything and/or anyone who wishes to exist is best off staying as close to the road as possible, since the farther away you get from what i like to compare to its "render distance" the more you have to rely on your own self and peoples' memories and thoughts of yourself to exist coherently. as such, concepts like peoples' relationships and memories (which, btw, have a psuedo-physical form here) are incredibly important both on a basic survival and cultural level.

because of this world's relatively relaxed (scientific) laws, remoteness and emptiness, it's become a popular place for various gods to store their random bursts of inspiration, works in progress and scrapped/forgotten ideas. (the way things are sometimes dropped in and then discovered by the populace aren't dissimilar to a whalefall) It's populated by a mishmash of beings and locations drawing inspiration from essentially everything, with origins ranging from "created by hand from divine clay" to "a family that's been here for 17 generations" to "just showed up, idk man." There are a not insignificant number of gods and similar beings who've been inadventently trapped there, or are just roaming around for fun.

it's unknown when the Road came to be, or how. It's speculated that it might be alive, or even sentient, or even bene/malevolent. (some even worship it as a god itself.)

also the ground is made up of 3-4 meters of soil, maybe some rocks, and an impenetrable metal sheet.
