Pumpkin Knight Idia is one of my defaults even not around Halloween!! Unsurprisingly as sawluvr199x and my love for horror as a whole, I’ve grown up with Halloween being my family’s biggest holiday of the year. I think it suits her and also her gushing about 80s horror in the vignette made me Feel Things.

BG rn is mostly a holdover until playful land’s out for the music LOL

My self insert actually isn’t Yuu, but a Pomefiore student!! I mentioned a day or two ago that I didn’t really like Yuu as a character at all until I read Octa manga and used Yuuta as my Yuu. That being said, he seems way too nice to ban anyone and would inversely invite them in for a meal LMAO.

As for me, Drac Draconia Octahyde… well Grim is part of the deal so I can’t ban him. Probably Rook. He isn’t my least favorite character and I actually like how absolutely fucking insane he is. But also I do not want him anywhere near me because of how fucking insane he is. My qpp has had nightmares of walking through the city at night and a bus passes him and Rook is in the back window. Staring straight at him. Standing and unmoving. We’re both really obsessed with it.

OHHH IDIA… MY WONDERFUL EMO WIFE. There are a LOT of songs I connect to her (I literally had an idea for an entire series of 17 pieces based on her and every single Black Parade song.)

I think my biggest one is ironically not an MCR song. So Much for Stardust by FOB is a song I very very deeply relate to, and I feel like it really captures her grief with the death of Phantom Ortho.

Another big one is Cemetery Drive by MCR, again one I deeply relate to and one that definitely encompasses Idia’s grieving.

Also like, I can’t NOT post Black Parade songs after mentioning it, so I’ll say This Is How I Disappear because of how encompassing it is of despair and loss, and also Kill All Your Friends because it’s about the anger and isolation when you have CTPSD and nobody around you understands. Also it’s my favorite song on the album when I’m forced to pick one and it goes so fucking hard.

I like online horror series as well. Favorite currently is marble hornets. Love horror movies my favorite being the thing by John carpenter it’s peak cinema to me. Love survival horror games like resident evil and silent hill 2, have yet to play the other but I hope to when I have time. Undertale/deltarune is also peak I love those games so much I still can’t do a no mercy route as I love the characters to much and physically can’t bring myself to do it. Red is my new favorite thing in the world (specifically on hair but I like it on anything everything)

I think one of the reasons is because of MCR. Let's start with my favorite album, Three Cheers. The red ties (and Mikey's bandana ofc) pop on the black button-downs and suit jackets and it gives me a tremendous serotonin boost. And how could I forget when franks platinum blond was replaced with a crimson red! Also, the makeup is super fucking cool as per usual.

Next. Danger Days. Gerard's bright red hair in this era is fucking beautiful and inspired me to dye my hair red haha.

I love the whole concept of Danger Days and I think it's really funny and cute when people swap Party and Black Parade Gerard's outfits. I'm gonna be honest they both look great. And let me just say this album slaps so hard at 1:35 am that it'll leave a scar.

Day ten: Favorite song from The Black Parade

When I first listened to the album, Cancer was my favorite, but Mama really grew on me and now it's easily my favorite!! It's mostly the lyrics and the unique sound, but the chorus is also amazing. I love it so, so much.

Some other songs that I adore from the album are Dead!, Teenagers (obviously), Sleep, House of Wolves, The Sharpest Lives (I didn't like it at first because of the beginning, but it grew on me), Cancer, and I Don't Love You. Ignore the fact that I listed most of the album lol.

Hot take, but my least favorite song in the album is Disenchanted. It's not like I dislike it (I don't hate or dislike any MCR song), but it's just meh. I don't even know what it is; perhaps I just don't like the vibes or something.

It's still an incredible album though!! I love the vibes of it, and it's iconic. I absolutely love the unique sound of this album, the story, and how experimental the whole thing is!! Very awesome sauce.

Nostalgia Advent Calendar: MCR edition

Day 8: Your Favorite Song from I Brought You My Bullets, You Brought Me Your Love

And so we leave the specific instruments behind and start out journey with album specific days. First day is for The Bullets. Now fair warning for loads of pointless rambling and the actual answer for why it’s my fave is quite short.

This album is the one I’ve certainly listened the least. I feel like especially in my teens I wasn’t ready for this punk songs. I couldn’t appreciate the feeling that these songs have and just like some old boomer I’d just think it’s just loads of noise. Plus all in all I was a rather happy teenager. If I would’ve have loads of anger issues, hard time with friends or family or being heavily bullied I think also this heavier MCR would’ve hit closer to home.

To go back to my teenager years I however need to bring something up that I found at my folks’ this weekend. Back then most of the new bands I discovered didn’t have their albums available in the local store so I kinda got used to either Limewire the songs or loan the CD in the library. So I guess with MCR this happened as well. Don’t mind the typos, I was 14 and my English was rubbish.

I remembered I had a burnt CD with bunch of MCR songs but I didn’t remember it wasn’t only The Black Parade songs. (The missing Mama made me shocked last night, I bet I just forgot to put in the CD cause otherwise that doesn’t really make sense.) I might’ve assumed Helena and I’m Not Okay from it but didn’t assume there were also songs from The Bullets as well. Okay, Vampires Will Never Hurt You I understand cause MCR became for me the music that I listen to while reading Twilight but especially This Is The Best Day Ever is such a random one but yeah okay…

However, we’re talking about the favorites in 2024. I love the intros of Headfirst for Halos and Skylines and Turnstiles but I’m not as invested to the whole songs.

My top 3 songs are Honey, This Mirror Is Not Big Enough for Two of Us, Vampires Will Never Hurt You and Our Lady of Sorrow. I think melodies in all of them are relatively linear so they’re easy to follow yet they still have something surprising in the song.

I have literally such hard time deciding that I listened those three songs twice during my bus drive home just an hour back and have already forgotten which one I decided that I liked the best.

But after both listening the songs again and looking up the lyrics. And I say the points go to Our Lady of Sorrows. The song has both really good melody (I looove the intro) and the lyrics also have something to think about even though I wouldn’t have interpreted them quite as Gerard wrote it. Especially the

”Stand up fucking tall, don't let them see your back

And take my fucking hand and never be afraid again”

is something quite encouraging for anyone discriminated to have in this world.

Only Living Girl in LA by Halsey. And the whole The Great Impersonator album, but this is one of the ones I've had on repeat. It's a very personal song for her but it also feels very personal to me

Disease by Lady Gaga. SLAPS. Makes me feel like I'm back in 2010 again with Bad Romance and Telephone on repeat while I made Livejournal icons. That was an artform we lost btw, Livejournal icons

THE DEATH OF PEACE OF MIND by Bad Omens. Not sure I'm really a Bad Omens fan, but I'll listen. Need to listen more to make a decision. But this one is fun.

The Sharpest Lives by My Chemical Romance. Always one of my favorites off The Black Parade. Always one of my favorites in general.

The Reaping by Delain. I didn't check out Delain after Charlotte departed for a long time because I assumed I wouldn't like them anymore, but I was wrong. Diana Leah is great.

Guess it didn’t take as long as I was thinking. I really wanted to draw Ashton. So yeah, another Picture Perfect Boyfriend playlist and cover image.

Here’s the Ashton playlist for my fellow simps out there! Like with the Ashino playlist, I tried to make it a bit of a mix of stuff he’d listen to and songs that otherwise fit his vibe, though this list is a bit more structured since this guy has more of a character arc and I have more to say about that.

Obviously, we have to start off strong with this list, so Welcome to the Black Parade by My Chemical Romance was a no-brainer. Kind of a similar deal with the second song, I Will Possess Your Heart by Death Cab for Cutie (albeit the Radio Edit, since the album version is like 8 minutes long).

Spoiler cut below that pertains to both Picture Perfect Boyfriend and Picture Perfect Boyfriend REBOOT, even if I assume that Ashton’s nature is pretty generally known by this point in the fandom.

Coffee Bar by Yung Dark is next and probably doesn’t come off as super notable aside from being the most atmospheric song on the playlists so far. I just thought it would be fun to toss in to represent some chill coffee dates at Café Rose, since things will escalate quickly. Weird little aside, but I kind of like how audible the hand movements are on the guitar strings for the fret work, so I guess we can stretch that to Ashton pulling the strings on these dates? :p

Lightning round, sort of, Alien Boy and Feel Good Inc. are mostly for the sense of isolation, if that makes any sense. Smooth Criminal (covered by Alien Ant Farm) and Kill All Your Friends also come off as… pretty apt for what happens in the events of the first game.

I’ll admit that Reptilia could also really fit for Ashino, but they are more similar than they’d care to admit, so I put it on Ashton’s list since the genre’s more of a fit for him. Besides, we’re in his smug winner phase starting with that song! It definitely continues with Ava Adore and particularly The Glow (especially the line “making light of it, when you’re winning”, but also the general sentiment of the song that the anonymity afforded by the internet makes some people feel secure in their cruelty towards others).

I like to think that Dark Red is the smallest hint of faltering, since Ashton tried really hard to brush off the fact that he murdered his friends just to be assured closeness to the player. From there we head into Take Me Out for the iconic garden confrontation and Thnks fr th Mmrs for the fallout.

I consider the next handful of songs to generally be Ashton’s musings between the two games: regret over causing that whole shitshow, still loving the player, wanting to be better, etc. Bossa Nova Corps by Origami Angel is probably my favorite song selection for this playlist because it feels especially tuned into those sorts of sentiments and is about where we’re hitting sequel territory.

I think Nevermind can be used bluntly for the search for Ashton and You’re On being once he’s back in, after Ashino’s blocked off the Bureau and the kill switch isn’t working as intended.

While I try to kind of have an array of songs to give the vibes some wiggle room for how the player feels about characters, I’ll admit these last few are simp territory. Bad Habit is a pretty good “nerd wins love” sort of song, got Maybe Chocolate Chips for mutually assuring over looks and expectations, Honey for the obvious reason of the title and that the lyrics are about resolving to be better than before, and we finish on Death of a Bachelor. We can ask Ashton a particular question on one of the REBOOT dates that makes the last song feel right, if you chose to ask it.

But yeah! That’s the general thought process in this playlist. If I ever go back and add some more songs in, I really should add some more grunge. I totally forgot for a while that I had wanted to add in Black Hole Sun, so traded it with a kind of redundant choice I had in there before (for now, I’m trying to have the playlists reach the hour thirty mark and might expand on them at a later point, since I wanted to keep things fair).

General opinion: I’d say season 1 Dan will forever be my fave. He’s a little shithead kid who gets the bomb dropped on him and he has to start reevaluating how he looks at the other people around him, but that starts to falter in the later seasons where he just becomes the stereotypical hero who gets all the buffs and does no wrong, which does his character such a disservice. I honestly like that he was such a dick in the beginning bc that’s how most kids are, but the point is they learn through meeting other people and experiencing shit. We were robbed of that for Dan after season 1 IMO. But overall he’s fine ig.

Marucho:

Gender: reads as a boy to me personally, now that I think ab it him being a trans guy is so real. Short trans kings unite 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻

Sexuality: his sexuality is fluid. He just likes who he likes, but I think he definitely tends to fall more for personality than looks

This one's... IMPORTANT-important to us as a whole. Where do I even begin with it fhdnsjdnzns.

Uhhhh. Well! We hallucinate. Kinda infrequently nowadays, but back in... fuckinnnnnn 2015-2016 or so, I think? We had our first Big Psychotic Break. It was NOT fun! At all lmao! And our insomnia ramped the FUCK up. Things were Horrible.

But our old host was getting into MCR at the time, and shi finally sat down and listened to The Black Parade in whole and found this song, and... So much shit clicked into place for hir and for us collectively.

Shi played this song on repeat for DAYS, dude. Non fucking stop. It was one of the few things that really helped keep everything at bay. But. Yeah. This one's Up There in importance for us. Our favourite lyrics are "the hardest part, is letting go of your dreams" / "the hardest part's the awful things that I've seen". Really rang true back then tbh.

It is one of two rose gold songs we're aware of, and is the reason rose gold is our favourite colour. The other rose gold song is Disenchanted, also off The Black Parade!

This song was recorded in, and is kind of about, the band's experience with sleeping in a haunted house! they recorded the black parade in the Paramour Mansion, rumoured to be haunted—from the Genius page on the song: This song features recordings of lead vocalist, Gerard Way’s, experiences with night terrors which he believes were invoked by the haunted mansion they recorded Black Parade in. fucking wild tbh

ooh, how the song starts with the voice recording glitching while the piano starts up, AND THEN!! the rest of the instruments kick in!! waugh thats so cool <33 it feels so dramatic and passionate, mcr always has such a tragic, unabashed heartache sort of sound, i love the build up and emotion in the lines you mentioned, "the hardest part" its so pretty... i really love how this sounds <33

There is absolutely 0 order to this. Also I did 11 because I thought of all of these and then kept going back and forth about which one to eliminate and I couldn’t do it!! They’re all here for different reasons so I’m saying fuck the rules everybody lives! I am an absolute Album Listener like I’m usually in the mood for a specific album and I’ll listen straight through(but maybe skip a couple songs here and there)

1. Montaigne- Complex (This is the first year in like 3 years that Montaigne hasn’t been my number 1 or 2 artist on wrapped but all their albums still absolutely rule but this one is my fave.)

2. The Killers- Sam’s Town (I’ve been a Killers fan since I saw Somebody Told Me on the vh1 top 20 video countdown ✌️Hot Fuss is a banger but Sam’s Town holds a special place. Remember when we had song ringtones? The song Sam’s Town from the album Sam’s Town was mine for so long in high school.)

3. Punisher- Phoebe Bridgers (the soundtrack of my 2020 I used to come home exhausted from work and sit in bed and listen to punisher straight through and read fanfic to unwind. In hindsight not a Great Time but in the moment it kept me sane)

4. Coheed and Cambria- In Keeping Secrets Of Silent Earth 3 (the amount of Coheed I listened to in college was astronomical. For a while they got linked to a shitty time so I couldn’t listen but seeing them in the line up for WWWY is bringing me back babeyyy. Honestly big respect to Claudio Sanchez for making a whole band and multiple albums around his little OCs)

5. My Chemical Romance- The Black Parade (truly do I have to explain)

6. Petey- Lean Into Life (Petey made up 28% of my top 100 songs this year alone so he’s earned his place)

7. The Wombats- Glitterbug (I was torn between this one and Beautiful People Will Ruin Your Life but Headspace being on Glitterbug means it wins)

8. Metric- Live It Out (Another HS/College banger. I used to get so anxious during boss/big enemy fights in video games so I would listen to this album and sometimes specifically Monster Hospital on repeat. Sad I don’t like any of Metrics stuff post Fantasies but their early albums are great)

9. One Direction- Made In The AM (if yall haven’t been here for long you missed the 1D years and tbh I’m sad for you it was a fun time. Glad I got in as a fully cooked adult so I could avoid the extremely toxic parts and just have fun. Anyway last album best album when is the hiatus ending boys!!!!!!!!!)

10. Rilo Kiley- The Execution Of All Things(back to HS/college woohoooo! Truly is there anything better than screaming A Better Son/Daughter I DONT THINK SO)

11. Modest Mouse- We Were Dead Before The Ship Even Sank (Missed The Boat is one of my favorites songs of all time. This is another band that got stuck in the Associated With Bad Person zone for awhile but I just relistened a couple years ago and we’re so back baby)

but also yayyy im glad you started listening to them!!! welcome to the black parade was also one of the first mcr songs i liked, its def a classic for a reason! i feel like every mcr album has wildly different energies, so at least for songs that have similar vibes as the end/wttbp/flw i would recommend dead!, the sharpest lives, and house of wolves!

other great ones are heaven help us (this fully rewired my brain when i first heard it), it’s not a fashion statement it’s a fucking deathwish (absolutely incredible lyrics), save yourself i’ll hold them back (also has some of my favorite lyrics of all time), thank you for the venom, and boy division!
