oh to be a little animal fatally wounded on the side of the road by a metal beast i never stood a chance against and i lie there in the artificial white lights as blood stains my fur and i heave in little breath after little breath and it is so dark and it is so cold here on the border of grass and asphalt and suddenly the driver runs out and they kneel down and they are so frightening with the light behind them like a halo but their hands are so soft and gentle and they despair over my little dying body and my pretty wet eyes and they try desperately to save me and i die anyway but i do not die alone and i do not die on purpose and for all of the violence and the agony i know at least someone regrets it and will carry that grief with them forever and it was gentle at the end of things and i was maybe even held. or something
