every time someone mischaracterizes nuanced character relationships and turns it into a basic parent-child dynamic, i die a little inside

my main gripe with this is about nahida being called scara's mom/aunt but it also extends to zhongli & xiao, beidou & kazuha, wriothesley & sigewinne, neuvillette & furina, and others.

like. i enjoy found family as much as everyone else, but that is a terrible injustice to the characters' writing. the character typecast as the child is infantilized to hell and back while the other character is reduced to a 2d caricature of the perfect parent. Bruh

don't get me wrong, headcanons are fine and all, it just irks me that some people consider it lore accurate when it really isn't

I’ve gone on and on about how Leo wants to be who Splinter finds is the ideal person (which just so happens to be Splinter’s ideal version of himself) but I have yet to really touch upon how Donnie is the one who most directly parallels Splinter himself to an honestly shocking degree, Raph’s taking from Splinter’s teachings and parenting has resulted in an unhealthy mixup in the different dynamics of a family versus a team, and Mikey is the one who is simultaneously the most focused on family and the most intrinsically himself which both leads to his better grasp of mystics and honestly what just might be the healthiest dynamic with Splinter.

Thinking about how Anthy got so used of people physically assauling her and blaming her over literally anything and yet Nanami pulled her through the situation eerily familiar to the day she became the target of everyone's hatred and triggered her scopophobia and PTSD so hard that she hated Nanami forever

Jakob and Gunter’s dynamic is so underrated, their supports are so hilarious yet kinda sweet when you look deeper? A grumpy father figure and bratty son dynamic.

Kepcobi this kepcobi that. None of you understand them like i do the nature of jacobis damage towards kepler is PARENTAL. He's the character whose family life we get the most detail on and that detail is that he has a disapproving military father he feels he can never be good enough for. Kepler is the surrogate paternal figure who appreciates his skillset and so jacobi offers unquestioning pseudofilial loyalty in return. Any romantic or sexual undertones are one sided and, i am sorry to say, tangled up in the parental angle. The car stakeout fireworks mini episode does undeniably have "you forgot our anniversary" vibes but it ALSO has "taking my surrogate son fishing/baseball throwing like his real father never did" energy!!! That being said i like to believe he was totally checking kepler out that first time in the bar

For all the ppl writing fics for Fontaine characters, just know that mon is male possessive for my, but can also be used to indicate gender less as masculine is the default. Ma would be the feminine version.

Also in the case of (most) terms of endearment ex chéri (this is the most common one I’ve seen so far) add an e to indicate feminine. So ma chérie vs mon cheri

As for amour because I know I’ll be seeing that as well, that one stays mon amour don’t ask me why French is bull shit okay
