my two cents if you care for a dissenting opinion: I'm more inclined to believe that data came up during debrief that made him reconsider what he could've done differently during quali, and after having driven an amazing race where he nevertheless finished P5, that's absolutely on his mind. He's a perfectionist. He's thinking "what if".

fwiw, tyre blankets are Pirelli made. If those had malfunctioned (*) why not admit it? I also struggle to believe that... like, Charles isn't a puppet. He's PR trained but he makes his opinion known. He didn't do a video after a bad quali because he presumably was busy with said debrief or was in a shit mood and didn't want to.

Again, ignore me if this take is unwelcome! But I think Charles has more agency than that and I think it does him a disservice to argue that he couldn't have changed his opinion without a gun to his head

(*) journalists yesterday reported that the tyre blankets were in fact working. this 1) is coming from sources close to Ferrari so if you're skeptical it probably won't do much for you but 2) said blankets are, again, third party equipment. I can't think of a reason to go out of their way to say they were working when they weren't. And if they were covering up an internal team fuck up, they could use less commital language and fewer details instead of specifically mentioning the blankets

Charles going back on what he said after qualifying in every single interview after the race and even in the post race video, making sure to say it was HIS fault and not anyone else’s is very strange to me. Is this why they didn’t let him make a video after qualifying? What did Sylvia do to him? All he said was that the tyre blankets were not working. Why did they make sure he said it was his fault in all the post race interviews?
