One line any fic! Rules: pick ten of your fics, scroll to somewhere midpoint, pick a line chunk and share it, and then tag ten people.
I was tagged a while back by @glorious-spoon. Thanks!! I feel like I’ve talked about my 2022 fic a lot so I’m going to make an effort to include some much older fic too!
1. Solicited Noods (Leverage, 2017)
Beneath her, Quinn was opening the suitcase and showing its contents to the gang leader. Even from this high up Parker recognized the stack of papers as being identical to the labels on Peggy’s contraband jams. She was begrudgingly impressed. Drugs hidden in the adhesive. Easy to transport. Easy to hide in plain sight.
Peggy’s voice broke into her reverie. “I know, but at least yesterday I could pretend he wasn’t working with the people who tried to kill me. My cats and I are going to die single and alone,” she lamented.
2. your name whispered on the wind (The King’s Avatar, 2020)
Huang Shaotian gives up on the notebooks and stands. He’s paler than usual, a smudge of dark circles bruising the thin skin under his eyes. Or perhaps it’s just the overhead light, projecting Yu Wenzhou’s concerns onto the canvas of his face. Even his shirt is muted, a dark blue instead of his usual bright yellows and greens.
3. The Man in That One Suit (Person of Interest/What Not To Wear, 2013)
“Now he, on the other hand.” The co-host, Stacy, chimed in, walking over to Finch and appraising him from head to toe.
“A study in perfection,” Clinton agreed, a finger lightly tapping his lip in appreciation.
4. the shifting shapes of clouds (Shadowhunters, 2020)
Lorenzo’s gasp is poorly hidden and Magnus amuses himself in the growing silence by imagining the scandalized look that must be scrawled across Lorenzo’s face. He keeps his back turned and his magic ready. It’s both a test and a challenge.
Surprisingly enough, Lorenzo passes on both counts. “It’s probably for the best that I did not know that about you when I first came to New York.” Try as he might, Lorenzo can’t entirely hide the shake in his voice.
5. #work hard nap hard (The King’s Avatar, 2021)
Jokes aside, the napping pics have been heating up and we’re here to round up what’s fact and what’s fiction about Blue Rain’s afternoon delights.
Fact: The team really does keep a collection of “napping blankets” on hand. Their blanket cherry was popped by their very own Zheng Xuan. Bonus fact: Team Captain Yu Wenzhou is most frequently seen napping with the very same blue blanket that took his team’s innocence.
Yeah, we all wish we were that blanket
Fiction: Blue Rain team orgies. Sorry tanks, healers, and DPS dealers, but that rumor is Busted! Our correspondent onsite confirms only good wholesome fun is to be found with these boys.
6. strange partnership (Shadowhunters, 2019)
“I suppose it wouldn’t be fair to keep you here, but I can’t take you back either.” A sense of dread settles over Alec. If this man takes him captive, there’s not much he can do. Hodge had taken Alec’s cutlass and his pistol before pushing him overboard. He doesn’t even have the set of thin metal rods that have gotten him out locked rooms before.
He swallows around the tentacle in his mouth, his throat suddenly dry.
7. flicker (The King’s Avatar, 2022)
Yu Wenzhou tries not to think about how many versions of himself have fallen to this creature. “I can say no.” He’s figured this much out already. If he has to guess, he’d say it needs his permission to cross over into his stream. “You waited too long. You’ll die if I do.”
The lights flicker, faster this time. Yu Wenzhou doubles over, the taste of blood in his mouth.
‘I’ll take you with me.’ The voice sears into his head, splitting his brain apart.
8. Condiment War (Hetalia/Highlander, 2013)
Eyes narrowing in suspicion, Prussia cocked his head in thought. Back in the days when he led armies into battle, he would have traded entire divisions for a mind like Pierson's. "You're damn good at this, for a linguistics nerd."
Pierson gave an abashed smile. "A lot of the documents saved for posterity are old military correspondence. Guess I picked up a few additional talents in the translation process. Oh, also receipts. I can discuss archaic trading practices at length, if you'd prefer." His brow furrowed in mock contemplation. "There were a suspicious amount of goats changing hands."
9. Means of Transportation (The King’s Avatar, 2021-2022)
“I’m fine, why wouldn’t I be fine. It’s Wenzhou who has the problem, not me. Nothing bad happened to me, which you would have known if you came to our conference.” The phone suddenly feels red hot in his hand and he’s tempted to end the call.
“You’ve always been a shitty liar.”
“Your face is shitty.”
“You’ll be lucky to look this good when you’re my age.”
The laugh dies in Huang Shaotian’s throat, leaving behind a tight ache. “I miss him.” The words slip out in a whisper. What did he do wrong that all his captains keep leaving him?
10. This is not a ghost story (The King’s Avatar, 2022)
"Have you ever heard of a kid named Huang Shaotian?"
Wei Chen’s face, normally etched in a perpetual scowl, falls. He pivots in his chair to give Yu Wenzhou his full attention. "Where'd you hear that name?"

My Husband !
★ - hi... (´・ω・`) erm, I know 've been gone for a while (a very long while) but m'back and addin' two new fandoms t'my masterlist !! (Haikyuu & JJBA pt.1 - pt.6!!) - do be warned 've not finished part six yet (m'on chap 114!) so I can't write for every character!
☆ -Narciso Anasui x Male reader!
♡ - he's close enough, welcome back Diavolo !! o((>ω< ))o — forgive me if he's a bit OOC, 've yet to watch video essays on their characterization >﹏<
Being Anasui's boyfriend wasn't the toughest thing on earth. Nearly dying after meeting Pucci for the first time was tough, having to escape a fucking fairytale stand was tough, but dating Anasui was like brushing your teeth with your finger.
Annoying, yes, but it got the job done.
"Love..." Narciso whined from behind you, pushing his head into the crook of your neck. The two of you were situated under the shade of an oak tree, Weather Report and Emporio ate on the opposite side of the tree.
"Yes, Narciso?" You chuckled, patting the top of his hair affectionately.
The other wrapped his hands around your waist and sighed. "Nothing just wanted to say hi," he kisses your neck with a content sigh, sitting down against the trunk and placing you in his lap.
You roll your eyes but decide to humor him, lightly trailing your finger against his forearm. "Hello to you too, Narciso."
Anasui placed your hand on his palm, looking at your matching nails with fondness in his eyes. "So small... perfect for a ring." He mutters as he stares at your (annoyingly) bare ring finger.
Narciso and marriage are like two peas in a pod. When you two first met due to association with Jolyne, his first words weren't 'hi', 'hello', or 'watch out there's a Stand behind you', it was "Please marry me".
So yes, even after the unethical first meeting and the disastrous first date, he's been deadset on becoming your husband no matter what.
That was fine; you didn't hate nor love the idea, but none mattered to Anasui. Once his mind was set on something you couldn't take his mind off it.
"Sucks you haven't found one yet." You squeeze his hand, laughing at his expression.
He turns you over so you're facing each other, your legs wrapped around his torso. "You mean it? You'll marry me?"
"You don't seem to have the whole proposal thing figured out, do you, Narciso?" You ask playfully, watching a flush grow on his cheeks. "I do! This isn't the actual proposal, I'm just...scoping the area!"
"...scoping the area," You repeat slowly. "We've been dating for a while, what 'area' are you scoping?"
Narciso groans, resting his head on your chest. "You know what I meant!"
You chuckle, rubbing his head softly. "You'll know if I'll marry you when you propose."
Your boyfriend looks at you with wide eyes. "Really?"
You smile, pressing a kiss on his forehead. "Really."
"This was supposed to be a picnic." Weather says, looking at you two with a deadpanned expression. Emporio tried to pull him away to no avail.
"Fuck off, Weather." Narciso glared at him, the affection in his tone disappearing.
You sighed—he was the definition of 'I hate everyone but you'. Even with his interesting quirks, he was still your boyfriend; and eventually, your fiancé.

9/8/24: grand exit
(another great prompt from @nosebleedclub <3)
and, when that day does come,
when all of the energy
and organisms and light
that have shared in the experience of creation
that is my Life part ways,
i want to mold with the earth
in all of her magnificent mass
and layers of time,
cradling her beloved beings,
hurling through this endless expanse
for the sake of existence.
i want to sleep from seed
into sapling, stretch
as far as my fibers can reach
into twig, into trunk, into
bright, wide open sky.
i want to float through the atmosphere
on clouds and wind,
meet with the almighty heat
of our sun’s flares,
somersault with new stars
as their celestial lights
are just coming to.
i want not only to feel death
as the grand exit that it is,
but as the doorway back
into an infinite history
that i have always shared in
and will always know.

Despite the temperature of the air dropping around them, Boothill's metal hand is still sunbaked and warm. Argenti thought it would feel heavier, but the other man's touch is as controlled and precise as if it were his own flesh and blood. A gentle pat. Just enough for it to be felt.
It reminds him of his Master, abruptly, keenly. That large calloused hand that could grip the hilt of a sword so fiercely, but root out plants so carefully when it came time to move them from their pots to the earth. The knight can't help but tilt his head up into the touch without really thinking of doing so. As if he were a sunflower chasing the sun, eyelashes fluttering shut for just a moment-
And then the moment passes. Joyous laughter fills the silent night air. Thick red hair is knocked askew from the playful manhandling. Argenti hardly has time to fix it when his attention is suddenly drawn back to his abandoned task.
"Ah! The fire-" he gasps at the dwindling ember glowing dimly in the dark and kneels down closer to prod it back to life, blowing on it softly to revive it. It only takes a few moments to feed it enough brush that it will survive even without his meddling. He offers casual, yet sincere remorse, "My apologies, I lost focus."
With that small crisis averted, the knight arranges his limbs into a more comfortable sit and procures a comb from- somewhere. Knight of Beauty's secret. One must always look well-groomed when espousing the virtues of Idrila. It's while he's fixing his tousled locks that he looks to Boothill again to address his earlier comment, because of course he'd been mulling on it this entire time.
"I believe that the location the stars are viewed from is as important as who they are viewed with- such pleasant sights are best appreciated with company," Argenti asserts. "I shall have to think of a suitable viewing experience to share with you in return, to properly convey my gratitude!"
Boothill may not have been as... intimate.. as the Knights of Beauty in their appreciation of things they found beautiful, but he could see why a sight like this could take someone's breath away, hell, even bring some to tears. The Ranger chuckles, though he isn't poking fun. He just found it rather astounding that someone who sought Beauty and appreciated it so earnestly would not have seen something like this before.
Then he heard two words. A 'thank you'. Yet such simple words seemed to carry a passionate weight; one that in itself would offer a warmth that made the sun they felt before feel cool.
It was almost ... natural, in how his hand settled upon red hair and patted at the other man's head. He smiles.
"No need. Looks like y'spend too much time in th'stars, not lookin' at 'em. Guess I'll just have t'make sure y'get some good sights in every once in a while." Then, he ruffles Argenti's hair, messing it up before laughing heartily. "Now c'mon, get that fire started."

Write A Letter To Yourself To Find The Answers You Want. || 'Dear Subconscious...'
have ya ever had a problem at hand that ya just couldn't figure out a solution to? it's such a deeply perplexing problem that ya just decide to shrug it off and maybe 'sleep it off.' and so, ya do just that... and maybe in the middle of the night, or as soon as ya wake up, or maybe even two days later in the middle of a totally unrelated task, ya get a random idea, a random thought, or perhaps a random solution that was the answer. that was yer subconscious, answerin' that problem ya were so stumped on.
which got me thinkin'... why haven't i considered askin' my subconscious a direct question? ive seen this happen in movies before, usually with— people who have DID or MPD, or perhaps someone who sleep walks, or suffers black outs. I've seen people leave notes and messages to themselves.
why haven't I just written a letter addressed to my subconscious and let it solve everything for me? why haven't I asked my subconscious to show me the answer or give me the answers I need to tap into being in the state of pure consciousness? the letter is personal to me, and my subconscious knows me best, so why the fuck wouldn't I trust what it has to say? i already do muscle testin' to get my yes/no answers, I already do fuckin' tarot readin's on myself— so... why not do this? can't believe I haven't done this yet.
and with that thought, I got my handy notebook, sat down at my dining room table, and got to writin', starting the letter off by saying 'dear subconscious...' I spilled my most vulnerable guts afterwards and the rest was history.
I'm gonna tell ya right now, full transparency, I wrote to my subconscious about how much I want to enter the void state/I Am State and asked it for clear signs in my letter, I told it to give me the answers I want in a way that only I could understand. an experiment worth while... originally, i wasn't gonna post this but then i got my answers and i wanted to share this with ya lovely folks of this lil' dandy community.
I bet you're wonderin' what was the answer I got from my subconscious. I got multiple answers, as terrifying as that is, and I cannot even fathom how I can explain them properly. All I know is that I feel unwavering peace in all aspects of my life. but if yer really curious, I got a message in a tarot readin' video and through the spinoff of adventure time that just came out, not too long ago on max. Fiona and Cake. the shit they say in the show is... I can't even explain how it made me feel, just finished watchin' the entire series today. it was everything I needed to know, I asked my subconscious for an answer that only I would understand and what would ya know... i love musicals and animated shows/movies, and behold, i gotta damn combo. i definitely recommend it to my fellow manifesters!!! they literally talk about how easy it is to create yer own REALITIES in the damn show... that's what we fuckin' do!!!!
how do I write a letter to myself?
address yourself a letter as 'dear subconscious' and then get to writin'. you're literally sendin' yerself a letter, say whatever ya want in it, write yer secrets, write yer fears, write yer dreams. ask yer subconscious whatcha need to do to get yer dream life guaranteed and ya shall receive. some people may not like the idea of this but, what's the harm in a lil' conversation with yerself and findin' out the answers ya need. It can especially help ya if you've been strugglin' for a while, 'specially with all ya folks out there who've been on yer void journey for multiple years. what better way to get yer answers than to speak to yerself through yer own mind... wah, that sounds fuckin' coconuts but I stand by it.
essentially, this is just a combo of commandin' yer subconscious and scriptin', that's not hard at all. and who said ya gotta handwrite it? ya can type it out on yer phone or even yer computer if ya want, do whatever feels good and allows ya to write out yer guts and frustration. after that, ya can relax and see what happens next. that's all in this post! thanks for readin' and I hope ya get the answers ya seek! until next time!~
p.s. this ain't a challenge, it's just another way to get to know what you need to do to accomplish your dreams as the individual creator of yer reality. you'll know when yer answers come. hell, might even come to ya in the middle of the night or even in a random movie in the form of a quote that is far too relatable to yer situation ya decided to sit down and watch one day. kinda like what happened with me... hehe.

Hi Sex Witch, I was wondering if you had any book recommendations for easing prejudices/self judgement regarding STDs?
hi anon,
I haven't read any such books personally yet - and it doesn't seem to be a very full field - but in looking for an answer to your query I discovered Strange Bedfollows: Adventures in the Science, History, and Surprising Secrets of STDs, released in 2021 by sex educator Dr. Ina Park. it sounds pretty dang cool, and I'll definitely be checking it out as soon as I can! maybe it's time for a sex witch book club?
in the meantime, you may also like this episode of the podcast Unladylike; it's a few years old but sticks out in my brain as a great exploration of living with the stigma of herpes.
this video by the perpetually applicable Dr. Doe breaking down the facts about STIs with 0 judgment and some pretty cute puppies

and the works of Ella Dawson, a writer well-known for being extremely candid about living life with herpes

Writin’ Comics and Junk: Part 4 - Comic Compositionin’ (Part 2)
It sure looks like things have finally begun to pick up in our ongoing saga of heavy metal people and their friends! Things just get more interesting from here, so don't miss the next one!
The next Dethkomic update will be Tuesday, April 25th, 2023!
At this time, I'd like to give a special shout-out to all of you who have offered up your OCs to the Dethkomic overlords! I'm working on getting everyone's cameo appearance into the book for issue #7!
Right now, though, we have another comic book tutorial to share. It'll be a briefer one than usual, today, but covering a very important part of comic book composition, regardless!
The Art of Sequential Direction
Last week, we covered the general aspects of comic book layout, so I thought this week would be a good place to go over the more detailed bits that make up the panels in a page. Check it out below the cut!
Take a look at the two page layouts, below. Which is more interesting to your eye, at first glance?
The first page doesn't offer much in the way of variety, while the second page is chalk full of it -- it's not hard to understand why the second example looks and feels more exciting to read.
One of the things I tell creatives who are starting out in comics, who usually are coming from a background that's full of one-off pieces of art and very little sequential work, is that comic books -- especially action/adventure comic books, work best if you look at them through a director's eye.
This was one of the first things that was told to me as a young comic book artist and fan, and it's something of a never-ending journey. I love to watch movies and shows while my mind picks apart what the director was trying to convey in the way the camera was set, how the scene pans or stays still, what music was playing, how the dialogue carries -- all of it! Comics may not have as many moving parts as a movie, but you can probably guess that when it comes to conveying emotion through scene-setting, they are basically the same.
Just like the movies, comics have some ground rules that can help you make them more inviting and simultaneously exciting for your readers. Each one of these isn't terribly hard to do, but you'll be amazed at the impact they can have on your comic. I have three very, very simple ones that you can do, immediately:
Change the Size of Your Characters.
The above advice was handed to me in the same era, if not the same week, if not the same sentence as the advice about looking at your story as a director. One of the easiest things you can do and indeed, one of the most important things you can do -- before you even start to get a grasp on what types of scenes evoke what type of mood (we'll get to that...) --is to change how big or how small your characters appear, panel to panel. Basically -- pan the camera out, or in. Your readers' eyes will be far more likely to stay focused on what's being said and what's happening, if the scene changes just a little bit in this way.
Change the Camera Angle.
That horizon line that tells us where the end of the world is? The one that separates the ground from the sky? Move it up or down, chief. That's it. That's all there is to this one. Sure sets the scene differently, doesn't it? Notice how your characters, no matter what size you drew them, now look either really big (if your horizon line is low) or really small (if the line is up high) in the panel. That's what we wanna see -- make those guys change size!
Change the Panel's Tilt.
Okay, so now some of your characters are really big on the panel while others are small, and your horizon is way up, way down, or completely off the panel! Good work. Now pick one or two panels and turn them at a 45 degree angle. Or a 90 degree angle. Or if you're really bold and are making some kind of statement, turn them upside-down. Especially the panels where you're going to have trouble fitting the necessary dialogue balloons in -- this is a great trick to find yourself some more space.
Now that you have those down, you have a go-to for when you are just dragging it on finishing a page. Especially the pages that don't offer any particular points of interest and are just there to move the story to its next, more interesting part (shoeleather, as they're sometimes called). Even boring pages can be made way more interesting with the use of those three easy tricks.
Getting into the nitty-gritty, comic book professionals have a wide variety of shots that we typically fall back on when it comes to directing our stories. Each one can be used for different purposes, and to convey a different message. Another piece of advice given to me early on, was to treat my comic pages as if I had to tell the same story that was written out, but without the dialogue. If I could do that -- if I could look at what I'd drawn and get a good impression of what has happened without the characters saying a single word -- that was a good indication of a successful page.
So what are these types of shots and how do we use them? While this is by no means a complete list (Just google "types of comic book shots" or similar), I'll do my best to examine some of the more common ones, and give examples:
The Establishing Shot:
In the above example, we can see that Nathan is head of the table, in Charles' usual spot. Dethklok is on one side, Baen-Shee is on the other, and Toki isn't shown, but that's the joke -- he's so far away his speech balloon is coming from off-panel. Murderface is conspicuously absent. Establishing shots are important because they show the reader, at a glance, where everyone is and where they are in relation to one another and their environment. You should strive to have one establishing shot per-scene. Some people say per-page, and I think that's also good advice, if not a little extra work.
The Long Shot:
Oftentimes, long shots are establishing shots. The camera is far enough away from the subject that it gets most of/all of their whole body in the panel, as well as a good chunk of the environment. This gives both entities equal "weight" in the storytelling. What's that? Did I just call the background an entity? I sure did! Remember that.
The Medium Shot:
A pretty standard shot. Here's a guy. He's talking now. Maybe he's saying something important, and maybe he isn't. Whatever is happening, it's not doing it with great impact, and that's the point. Use these basic halfway-up-the-body angles when you're just establishing that something is being said or done, and by whom.
The Close Up:
Now it's getting interesting. We're zeroed in on one or two characters' faces to the point that we're forced to consider their facial expressions above all else. Must be some real tension going down, here.
The Extreme Long Shot:
Hey! Where'd my freaking house go??? Sometimes the environment is more important than the characters in it.
As I said, these are but a small sampling of all that's available to you as a comic book creator, when setting the scenes in your story. Next we meet, I'll go into some of my thought process when it comes to putting a page together and how I'm making decisions regarding the flow of the story, transitioning, layout, and more.
See you then!

tagged by @chiropteracupola a rather long while ago for this ao3 tag game (we are ignoring my play analysis teacher right now so might as well look at my fic writin' stats!)
ao3 name: mxpauling (tho this changes rather frequently!)
fandoms: in terms of fandoms Published On AO3, the greatest number are for detroit: become human and subsequent fan film detroit: evolution, due to my feverish participation in the deartfest fan event summer of 2020 (in which i wrote well over a novel's worth of words in. approximately a month.), but others represented include: team fortress 2 (specifically of the flintlock fortress variety), mystery science theater 3000, spies are forever, hadestown, the true lives of the fabulous killjoys, and some smaller one off fandoms (deathtrap, the moors, goncharov, the wolf and the watchman, and where or when)
number of works: 28! which is. a Lot higher than i remembered it being
work I spent the most time on: fairly certain it's 'leave your body at the door' as it was written over the course of about four months, which for me (guy with formerly wildly unmedicated adhd) was Insane
works I spent the least time on: oof uhhhh i mean i've written Several in the course of just a few hours, like 'cut something, kill something, eat something', 'i can't stand to see you bleed', 'don't give it a hand, offer it a soul', and 'old churchyard', amongst MANY OTHERS THAT ARE OLDER (and i didn't feel like copying)
longest fic: first place goes again to 'leave your body at the door' but coming as a close runner-up is 'Potentially Lovely, Perpetually Human', from way back in the de days
shortest fic: '(i feel) an overwhelming need', my recent the moors character study
most hits: this would be 'Out Of The Blue', due to its featuring in the octopunk monthly roundup at the end of deartfest. turns out, a built in Massive Stream Audience will bring people to your fic
most kudos: once again, 'Out Of The Blue', for much the same reasons
total word count: 144,556???????? (sorry this is NEWS TO ME)
favorite work of my own: a lot of them have already been featured in this list, so i will take this space to spotlight both 'Try Again, Die Again' (i am so proud of the premise) and 'Where the Sun Can't Find Me' (i really liked the prose in this one and am genuinely super pleased rereading it)
fic you want to rewrite / expand on: oof there are Several: i had a halfway plotted third installment of the killjoys: dead zone series about the girl and show pony settling into a new life in batt city that i'd really want to revisit someday; i'd love to restructure and rewrite 'Potentially Lovely, Perpetually Human' to make the pacing a bit more consistent; i have an incomplete fourth fic in the spytown logs series i want to come back to; and for the sake of space and time i want to redo the end of 'Out Of The Blue' because my God it's rushed
share a bit of a wip or story idea you are planning on: changing tacks Entirely. behold my bill & ted fanfiction you cowards
Everything is perfectly, totally sublime, another freakin’ awesome day in San Dimas. And Ted has a seriously heinous problem. “Dude,” he says before his brain really tells him to, turning to Bill, “this day is freakin’ awesome.” Bill nods, smiling most radiantly, pushing his sunglasses up his nose. “Totally awesome.” It is. Today is totally, absolutely, one hundred percent awesome, but… Ted doesn’t feel awesome at all.
this is a fic about ted getting wild depression post excellent adventure and not knowing how to deal with it because uhhhh he does not know what depression Is (and also they kiss a little)
tagging: @natdrinkstea, @nico-demons, @wilhelmina-murray-harker, and @fix-fax-fuckyou :3
#SORRY THIS IS A BEAST#AUGH#radio free junebug#i'm not tagging this by fandom i'd kill myself#anyway.#tag game#captain cupola#captain's logbook

Yeah, it's... unfortunate.
The reality is, open and honest communication would solve all sorts of problems and avert all sorts of blowups. But the point is that both sides have to be willing to have the conversation. And that's very rare, as you saw.
All we can do is take one day at a time and one situation at a time. And be the best person we can be to those around us.
That said, I understand completely the concern going off anon and unlocking your account. And honestly, if you aren't ready to have the public see you and what you do, then you do what makes you feel safe, boo. I support you either way. (You can always slip into my DMs, tho <3 You are welcome at any time.) And those friends that have kept you sane? You hold them close. Those kinds of people are hard to come by. I can speak from experience. I wouldn't be here if it wasn't for mine. I owe them more than I'm willing to say.
On to funner things! I am SO very happy to see it's going to be a series!! The initial concept is already unique and fun to see and expanding on the idea would be quite the adventure, I can already tell! I'll be lurkin on it in the shadows~ Wait'n to see what's next. ;3
Keep dreaming, creating and being you, boo!

Dear best friend,
Dear Malikat,
I ain’t ever been much one fer writin’ letters. It’s not that I won’t, s’mostly that I can’t an’ I guess that jus’ gits to be one more fact y’know ‘bout me now. Add it to th’list’a thangs ya know ‘bout me, cuz th’truth is I don’t think there’s many, if any that know me better’n you.
We’ve known each other a long time now. I think longer than I’ve known errybody, an’ lemme tell ya’ that’s a nice feelin’. Where as mos’ people have a tendency t’git lost in their own thing, or withdraw when I need t’go, you sumhow always end back up in m’orbit. It makes me happy. You’ve made me happy, an’ I think m’better fer knowin’ ya.
Y’put th’people ya’ care about at th’center of yer attention. Ya’ take up noble causes, an’ try t’do right by others. This is rare in a thief, an’ even rarer is th’thief that takes, but gives away jus’ a much. If ya’ take sumthin’ ya always leave sumthin’ behind, an’ this goes fer more than jus’ what ya take wit’ yer fingers.
You’ve plucked stories, memories, tokens, adventures, an’good times from me, but I reckon ya’ve left behind a' caravan of th’same wit’ me. At least I feel it’s been an even trade. You’ve never judged me by m’past, an’ ya’ve encouraged me in ways few people ever do. T’be m’self, t’be free, t’be happy in whatever way I need t’, so long as I don’t lose m’self. Remindin’ me’a who I am at m’lowest moments. Inspirin’ me t’do better at m’best.
I like you. I think yer m’best friend, if m’bein’ honest. I hope that’s okay fer me t’say. Yer fun, an’ heart felt, an’ you give a damn. Yer not always around, but yer there when I need ya’. Even if I don’t say I need ya’, yer always quick t’come thru’. An’ I think that’s all that matters. If ever there’s been a kinder person, an’ a more spirited woman, I swear I don’t know her. I like what ya’ sed, ‘bout what the wind does when it graces th’earth. I look forward t’all th’cyclones we leave in our wake. I wouldn’t have it any other way. I know its early fer Starlight, but I hope ya’ like what I’ve left fer ya.
Yers truly, Rome.”
Accompanied with the tek containing the voice note was a circular charm; sterling silver etched with the shape of a tornado descending from the clouds as well as a bottle of what was likely expensive, aged wine if the label and the dusty bottle were anything to judge by.

@bloodxxandxxspirit asked:
"Uncle Arthur? If I wrote a western adventure book, I want to title it 'Red Dead.' Kind of mysterious, right? It'll... It'll draw readers' curiosities into wanting to learn more about the story." (Guest appearance, Jack to Arthur)
Arthur was sitting out on the back deck of the house sharpening a few of his knives when Jack came outside to join him. Arthur had been one of the few who knew how to read and write correctly thanks to Hosea. Hosea was a damn good teacher and Jack was a fine example of just how good those teachings were. " You thinkin' about writin' a book are you? " He took his knife and sharpening block and sat them down at his feet so he could give Jack his undivided attention.
Reaching into his coat pocket he grabbed himself a cigarette and his lighter. " Mysterious is right. " After lighting up his cigarette Arthur added. " So tell me, Jack, why Red Dead? " He was curious why Jack would pick that as a title. He could understand the whole western bit since not so long ago most of them were considered outlaws and most likely still were.

My PhD Journey: A Personal Reflection on Challenges and Triumphs
Taking a PhD always forms a hub for those seeking to make their mark in their area of specialization, yet this journey is accompanied by challenges, rewards, and personal gains. Now, looking back into my own PhD experience, I would say it is one of the most transformational and demanding phases of my life. It not only pushed me to limits from where I could never thought to be reached but even questioned my ability, thus, ultimately providing a feeling of accomplishment which no other phase could give. In this blog, I hope to share the highs and lows of my PhD journey, lessons learned, and some advice for anyone considering embarking on a similar path.
The Start: Excitement and Uncertainty
Initially, when I chose to pursue a PhD, I thought that this was the step that would satisfy my keen interest in my subject; what I would really be working towards was something meaningful contribution to the field. In a nutshell, I was among those curious individuals who never stop reading, questioning, and asking for deeper answers to a question. I thus observed that dedicating a couple of years in a problem area to develop original research would perfectly mesh my intellectual curiosity with the real impact.
Excitement filled the first few months. I dived into literature reviews, attended seminars, and started outlining my research question. It seemed like the beginning of a very exciting adventure. But soon reality started to sink in with the fact that a PhD was not just about research but also about long hours of lonely work, learning how to understand complex academic language, and understanding not just what I wanted to talk about but what was missing in current knowledge. I soon realized that the excitement of this experience was only one half of the equation. There were moments of uncertainty too: was my research question good enough? Was I on the right track? And the bigger question: would I be able to finish this?
The Middle: Battling with Doubts and Overcoming Obstacles
My PhD journey proved to be a series of trials in terms of tests of patience, resilience, and determination. Among the most grueling was the mental and emotional cost of the "PhD rollercoaster."
Days came when everything seemed impossible: data didn't combine as expected, literature just seemed to stretch endlessly, and pressure to produce new, original work was really suffocating.
I started to feel that I was not qualified enough, and sometimes an imposter in the academic world. That is what's referred to as "imposter syndrome": feeling that you don't belong, even though you've earned your place. It's a very common experience for many PhD students, and it can be extremely isolating. Really, what helped me through those moments was getting some support from my advisors and fellow PhD students.
The message I learned is that there is no person who would solve a problem, and talking out your problems really puts you in perspective. Regular interactions from my advisor and colleagues gave me the constant reminder of not doing it alone while also helping me understand what setbacks are-all part of the process: they don't constitute failures but merely learning experiences that help shape my approach. Another important takeaway for me would be the effective time management principle. A life in Ph.D. appears like this is a never-ending queue of deadlines, revisions, and experimentation. Initially, I had experienced procrastination with an almost overwhelming sense that the workload was massive. Over the period, however, I discovered how to break the pieces of tasks into doable sizes while setting appropriate, realistic expectations. For my morale, small achievements-finish work on one chapter, small progress toward completing methodology-played crucial roles.
The dissertation and the "Finish Line" The final stretch
The last phase of my PhD journey was perhaps the most intense, yet the most rewarding. Writing the dissertation was both a relief and a mountain to climb. All the years of work, learning, and research were channeled into this one document, and the pressure to get everything just right was immense.
On the other hand, clarity is also realized with the dissertation. Nights of writing and rewrites became bearable, close to the finish line. The thing that surprised me is how much my feelings go into my work because research is not merely academic work; it's more deeply personal. You put so much of yourself into it; thus, the work will definitely mirror all that you have seen in your mind, found during research, and were passionately feeling.
Finally, once the dissertation is in, this is my last step: to prepare for the defense. And boy, was that nerve-racking, yet at the same time, I would be surprised if any of the readers can tell you any experiences they will ever forget from this exercise; presenting to a panel of experts with critical engagement is extremely validating and empowering. It is a sort of the culmination of all the late nights, uncertainty after uncertainty.
An Aftermath: Reflection and Directions
Now that my PhD is finally done, I feel the possibility of reflecting on the whole journey. The process has molded me in ways I would never have imagined. Not only did I learn a lot about my field but also learned about myself - how to handle failure, how to stay motivated even when things are not going well, and how not everything is going to be as planned. These are tough lessons to learn, but valuable not just for academia but for life as well.
Perhaps the biggest surprise about this PhD was just how it altered the dynamics of my relationship with knowledge. In coming to the program, I thought I was signing up to master a topic or two. What actually was discovered, though, is that doing a PhD isn't so much about answers but rather questions: not in having answers, but asking the right questions in an effective way, making decisions in situations of complexity and uncertainty, and accepting that such uncertainty might never really end.
And now, graduating with a PhD, I am excited about the future and any profession. Whether it is in academia or in industry, I know that the skills and experiences that I have gained over my PhD will form the foundation of whatever path I choose. Truly, I've learned during this period that the PhD is not merely a title but a journey of personal as well as intellectual development.
