Take My Coat - Adam Ruzek
Prompts: 2 - “God, you’re shivering so much— just take my jacket.”, 4 - “Let’s cuddle to stay warm.”, 9 - “Come sit by the fireplace with me.”
A ice storm had swept the city and it had swept away your heat and electricity. Well, it had taken out just about everyone’s heat and you were not happy with the situation, nor were any of your neighbors. Chicago winters were not meant to be endured without heaters.
Adam came over since you lived close by and you figured it was better to be cold together than apart at this point. He arrived on your front steps bundled up and carrying a spare blanket, not that you were lacking in that department.
“God you’re shivering so much,” he said when you shakily opened the door for him, already bundled in layers. “Take my jacket.” He offered.
You put a hand up to stop him.
“Then you’ll be cold. Just get inside and we can put this blanket to good use.”
Adam shrugged and followed you inside where you promptly snagged a blanket off the couch and wrapped yourself in it. He did the same with the one he had brought.
“Did they say how long it was going to take to get everything back up again?” You asked.
“No idea yet. There’s a lot of outages and the roads are still pretty bad. Everyone’s doing what they can.”
You nodded and sighed. You appreciated that everyone was working hard but it didn’t make you any warmer. You wrapped the blanket tighter around you.
“You know,” you began, “it might be better if we shared blankets.”
“Are you suggesting-”
“We should cuddle to stay warm, yes.” You finished his sentence with a smile.
Adam grinned and the two of you scooted together on the couch, opening your blankets to envelop each other. Immediately, it was better. Both of you radiating body heat plus the extra layer of blankets had you feeling warmer already. You leaned into Adam and he put an arm around you as you rested your head on his shoulder.
For a bit, the two of you just stayed there, enjoying being with each other feeling warmer for the first time all day. You were pulled from your thoughts of warmth and comfort when Adam shifted and moved his head to look at you.
“You have a wood burning fireplace?”
You looked at wall opposite you and would have smacked your own forehead if that didn’t require moving your hand from under the blankets.
“And some logs I bought earlier ‘just in case’ and kindling? Yeah. Yeah I do.”
“Okay well what do you say on three, we get up, I get those logs, you grab the kindling and matches since you know where they are, and we get this fire going?”
“But the cold...” you grumbled though you knew this would ultimately help with that problem. “Okay let’s do it.”
“One, two, three!”
And with that the two of you left the comfort of the couch and your warm blankets and sprung into action. You raced to the kitchen, pulling the matches from their drawer and then grabbed a stack of old newspapers from your dining table and plopped down next to Adam as he settled a log in the fireplace. You spread out the kindling while Adam took the matchbox from you and struck one, lighting the papers after you pulled your hands away. After some more fiddling and encouragement, the log caught and you had a roaring fire in front of you.
Adam moved to go sit back on the couch but you caught his hand.
“Sit by the fire with me.”
He smiled down at you, still seated from your efforts on the fire. He pulled away for a moment, reaching over to take his blanket off the couch before sitting down and wrapping it around both of your shoulders.
“You’re a good boyfriend.” You said, leaning into him once again.
“So are you. There’s no one else I’d rather freeze with.”
You both laughed.
“What you wouldn’t rather be freezing your ass off with Voight?”
“Oh no way!” Adam exclaimed, laughing but horrified at the thought.
“Good. There’s no one else I’d rather be with either.

Yeeee boy.
Can I request for Hank Voight with a male reader? Where Voight has kept their relationship hidden for safety reasons but the team finds out about it anyway?
SECRETS- Hank Voight x male!reader
Fandom: Chicago PD
Pairing: Hank Voight x male!reader
Summary - Hank Voight has kept his relationship with Y/N a secret to protect him from the dangers that seem to follow Hank wherever he goes. He soon finds out he isn't such a good secret keeper when it comes to his team.
Word Count: ~1100
Y/L/N: your last name, Y/F/S: your favourite show. Oh also Alvin Olinsky is still alive in this, I just love him too much.
The sun rose through the curtains and lit up the room. Y/N turned over in bed, but where he expected a warm body to cuddle up to, he only found the warm sheets, a sign Hank wasn’t long gone. The next thing Y/N noticed was the pleasant aroma of hot coffee filling the air. Y/N got out of bed, following the delicious coffee smells into the kitchen, where Hank stood at the counter pouring two cups of coffee. Y/N wrapped his arms around Hank’s waist and leant close, peeking over his shoulder, watching as the black liquid settled into the mugs, the steam rising from them.
“Hi sleepyhead. I hope I didn’t wake you.” Y/N shook his head no. Hank turned around, handing one mug out to his lover. “Well, Chicago never stops.” Y/N pouted slightly, puppy dog eyes pleading for Hank to stay home today. “I know, babe, but Antonio called me, they’ve found a lead.” Y/N smiled slightly.
“I know, just come back to me in one piece.” Hank wished he could tell his team about Y/N. The reason he got up every day. The reason for his smile. The reason for the slight pep in his step that he tried to hide when he was at work - it was such an unusual sight for him, it would be bound to draw questions. He wanted to tell his team about Y/N - no, maybe that was selfish. Okay, it was selfish. No maybe about it. He wanted to tell his team about Y/N so he could show his absolutely perfectly imperfect, adorable, tender-hearted lover off. After Camille and Justin, he never thought he would find love again, and now that he had, he wanted so bad to scream it from the rooftops. But the rational side of him reminded him how dangerous that could be. The more people who knew of his relationship with Y/N, the more danger he put Y/N in. Criminals would use his relationship as a leverage, homing in on the one remaining weakness in Hank’s heart. His superiors would use it to ensure he did what they wanted - it was almost guaranteed given how messed up the policing system was in Chicago.
With a hug and a kiss, and a promise of being safe and coming home ‘in one piece’, Hank was out the door.
The day passed slowly for Y/N – the big boss-man having sent all the employees home for the week (who knows why, the man was eccentric; anyway, it’s not like Y/N was going to complain about having a week doing nothing, all the while still being paid – it just seemed like a win-win). Lunchtime rolled round, and Y/N decided to head up to the 21st district to find Hank – see if he wanted to have an impromptu lunch date at the diner on the corner – the new one with those to-die-for bacon cheeseburgers.
But when Y/N walked in and went to the desk, where he recognised Sergeant Trudy Platt – many a time had Hank talked about his team, Y/N was confident he could name all of them without ever having seen them. “I’m here to see Sergeant Hank Voight. Could you point me in the direction?” “Who’s asking?” Y/N was taken back a bit by the harshness, attempting to brush it off as a bad day on the sergeants part. “Y/N Y/L/N.” “He expecting you?” “Oh, ummm.. no.” The sergeant picked up a phone set behind the desk. “Dawson, there’s a Y/N Y/L/N down here saying he wants to see Voight. Sort it out.” Y/N was shocked. Maybe confused was a better word. He thought Hank would have said something by now about their relationship to his colleagues. Sure, he hadn’t actually met the team – he wasn’t expecting them to recognise him – but at least they would know the name. ‘Oh yes, Hank told me about you.’ ‘He never shuts up about you.’ Okay maybe not ‘Hank’, it seems he goes by ‘Voight’ at work.
By the time Y/N was upstairs, waiting in Hank’s office with the promise he would be back shortly from an errand, he was even more confused.
Hank walked across the bullpen into his office, urgency in his stride, shutting the door behind him with a short bang, turning to Y/N. “Are you okay? What happened? Did you get hurt? Oh god, why did I let this happen….” So this is what panicked Hank looked like – something of a new vista for Y/N.
“What? No, I’m not hurt, nothing happened. I was just bored at home, so I thought I would come see if you wanted to get lunch together. We’ve yet to try the apple pie at that new diner on the corner.”
“Oh thank god.” Hank knelt down to the floor in front of Y/N, who sat comfortably on the couch, growing more and more befuddled. “Text me next time. Or call; I’ll try to answer. I was so worried.” And now he cradled Y/N’s face in his large, calloused hands, stroking a thumb against the smooth skin of his lover’s face. “Don’t do that to me ever again.” He lent in and placed a kiss on Y/N’s forehead, before looking longingly into his eyes.
Of course, it was in this moment of love being shared between two men who arguably deserved it the most, Ruzek came into the small office (no knock, it’s Ruzek, what do you expect!). “Boss, we’ve got another lead.” Just as quickly as he appeared, he disappeared again.
“Oh shit.”
“You good?!” Y/N giggled at Hank’s exclamative.
“Now they know. Ruzek never keeps things to himself for long.” Y/N raised an eyebrow, tilting his head to one side in a visible confusion. “I hadn’t told them. I wanted to keep you safe. Chicago isn’t a good place – yes there’s criminals, but the system is probably the most messed up thing about this damned city. I thought the less people who know about us, the less danger I put you in.”
“Oh, you stupid man!” Only a small insult said with immense love and adoration. “I knew what I was getting myself into when I said yes to that date. I love you and I don’t care if that means there may be a bit of danger.” Hank smiled. “Come on, get out there. They’ve got a lead and they need their boss to help save the day. We can just put a rain check on lunch.” Y/N ushered Hank out into the bullpen, before leaving back down the stairs to leave the 21st district and go back home; a cosy afternoon on the couch with Y/F/S waiting.
“So, the bloods came back on our John Doe – “ Halstead attempted to brief the team and Voight on their findings so far when Voight interrupted.
“How much do you know?”
Ruzek spoke. “That you like Y/N, that you guys are finally dating or that he moved in with you?”
“You really think you could keep that from me?” Al chimed in.
Hank sighed and waved for Halstead to continue his brief.

She’s So Pretty
Pairing: Hailey Upton x Fem!Reader
Word count: 1,640
Warnings: Slight mentions of alcohol.
Summary: You and Hailey meet at a karaoke bar one night when you don't even try to hide your interest in her.
Disclaimer: I don’t own any of the One Chicago shows, or its characters, also not associated with it in any way or know anyone involved with it.
A/N: So… I guess I wrote a Hailey fic? It’s obviously my first but I just couldn’t shake off the idea and had to go on with it. I wanted to see her interactions with the unit and wingman!Jay on this one so, beware! Also, after the finales, I felt like we all could use some fluff (especially Hailey!). Anyways, I hope it doesn’t suck, lemme know what you think!
(y/n) = (your name) (y/l/n) = (your last name) (y/n/n) = (your nickname)
| masterlist |
You and your co-workers had decided on a karaoke bar for that Friday night after shift, which was great because you absolutely loved karaokes! With that in mind, you didn't have any other plans besides hanging out with your friends, getting a little tipsy, and singing until someone decided it was time to kick you out. But all of that changed the second your eyes fell on a cute blonde that had really beautiful ocean blue eyes.
That woman could easily change your plans on any given day. And, convinced that she should know about it, you started to plot flirting moves in your head. First, as usual, you started to give her the sexy stares — not that girls would usually get very impressed by that but you wanted to catch her eye, show her your interest —, which quickly got your friends to get their gossiping started.
"Wait. A. Second. " You heard one of your colleagues say. "Are you really switching teams tonight, (y/n)?"
"What?"
"Yeah, I mean… You usually prefer girls…" She offered but, seeing your confused expression, she added: "because we can tell you're, you know, on the flirty mode."
"That obvious, huh?" Good. Your plan was working. "But I still don't know what you guys are so surprised about. Who do you think I'm going for?"
"Isn't it that hottie, broad-shouldered, blond guy? The one on that table with three other people?" The other one asked, pointing with her head in the exact direction you had been looking at.
"What? No, no! I mean, I am, indeed, looking at that table but that guy's not the one catching my attention! The blue-eyed hottie beside him is!" Hearing that, they all looked at the girl who was now smiling brightly at something one of the men she was with had just said. Jesus, that smile.
"Okay. She is pretty. Like, really pretty." The only male friend in your group stated while you just threw him an I-know-that look. "You know, you saw her first but, in case she's not your type o' player, gimme a heads up, please!" He asked poutingly while you just rolled your eyes.
"Just because you've already hooked me up before."
"And that is why our partnership works!" He told you with a wink while you just laughed, going back to your job and sort of disconnecting from your co-workers' conversations for the rest of the night.
"Wow, Jay, that shirt must be doing you a lot of service, huh?" Hailey teased her partner in a hushed whispered tone.
"What?" Was all Jay said while trying to conceal his confusion when he saw the smirk on her lips.
"That girl over there! She hasn't gotten her eyes off you the whole night!" Hailey said, as if he was the dumbest person alive. So he followed her gaze to discreetly meet the eyes of a very beautiful woman he'd already noticed before. Except that, unlike Hailey, Jay actually knew who, on their table, she was looking at.
"What? You think she's looking at me?" With that playful look never leaving her face, his partner just said:
"Of course, she's looking at you! Who else?" He couldn't believe it. The all-mighty, badass-detective, Hailey Upton was missing that one? No way.
"Really, Hailey?" He asked, still thinking she was just trying to prank him.
"Uh… I mean…" She stuttered, not really being able to come up with a proper response.
"Oh my God!" Jay squealed out, as he couldn't stop chuckling.
"What?" She asked, starting to fear she was embarrassing herself somehow, "what?" He just kept laughing, it wasn't every day he got to mock Hailey without the certainty that she already had something worse for him in the works.
“She is very obviously looking at you!” He told her with a huge suggestive smile on his face while trying to hold back his laughter.
“What?” She asked him, still mesmerized by that possibility. “C’mon! You’re joking, right?”
“Jesus Christ, Hails. Of course, she’s looking at you! Look again and you’ll see it.” Jay assured her one more time, which got her curiosity in the play, so she looked. And, instantly, you winked at her. Hailey didn’t know what to do with that. How to react. Confusion was all over her face, so you smiled and got out of your seat.
“Oh my God, Jay. Oh my God. I looked and now I think she’s coming here! What do I do?” She nervously hissed at her partner. “What do I do??
“What do you mean what do you do? You talk to her. Smile. Don’t act grumpy. That is, if you’re interested…” Seeing her panicked look, he turned to her to ask: “God, Hailey, what’s the matter with you tonight?”
“I- I, uh, I don’t know… I’m just…” She started rambling once again while tucking a string of hair behind her ear.
“Okay, breathe. Now, tell me, what’s going on? Is she not your type? Or are not interested in meeting anyone? Because, if it’s any of those things, just tell her so. We both know that girls don’t usually have a problem being told no.”
“Right. I know that. And it’s not really because of any of the things you said… I just- I just haven’t been with anyone in a long time. And with the way our jobs are… I’m not sure if it’d be nice to get someone wrapped up with me right now.” She confessed to her best friend.
“Oh, Hails…” He started while offering soft eyes and a kind smile, “I’m not sure if I’m the best person to give you advice on that front-” Hearing that, she had to interrupt Jay to say, in between dry chuckles:
“That you really aren’t! But I’d like your input anyways. I mean, i’s not like I have a clue of what to do, so…” Hailey told him with a glimpse of a smile on her lips.
“Ha ha ha. Well, I just think that you shouldn’t hold yourself back this much. The seule fact that you haven’t been with anyone in a while should settle it!” He exclaimed, raising his hands, as if it was the simplest, most obvious thing ever. Ignoring Adam and Kevin’s curious looks, Jay went on: “I just think that you should try and live your life! You know, what you said about our jobs… Only makes the whole fun-time thing more necessary, if you ask me. Besides, you don’t need to overthink this! We’re in a freaking club, Hailey! You think the girl’s gonna come here and propose?”
“First of all, I don’t see you doing much of that fun-time thing yourself!” She pointed out, to which Jay just responded by taking a sip of his drink. “And, second, look! I don’t think she’s even coming here at all.” So he looked towards the direction his partner was indicating to see you getting on the small karaoke stage the club had. Hailey looked triumphant for not having to decide on whether to live her life or not. And Jay just shook his head in disapproval, which quickly became mock towards his partner when they noticed the song you were singing.
“They’re so pretty it hurts
I’m not talking bout boys, I’m talking ‘bout girls
They’re so pretty with their button-up shirts”
As you sang, you made sure to let the blonde girl know that it was meant for her. And, God, did she know.
Hailey was pretty sure she’d never, once in her entire life! Ever blushed that hard. By then, your flirting had become so obvious that even Adam and Kevin noticed and started to itch with curiosity.
“Say, Hailey, you hiding a big game from us, huh?” Ruzek half-barked while drinking from his beer bottle. She just blushed harder while trying to cover her face with her hands.
“Damn, Miss Upton! Talk about a big game! That girl is fine!” Kevin chipped in and Jay thought it was his moment to go back to wingmanning his partner.
“I told her that! See?” With that, Hailey took a peek from her hands and she couldn’t believe Jay was doing that! Or she could, she just didn’t anticipate it because your voice was distracting from everything else. To her, you were singing beautifully, even though there was already a hint of drunkenness in your voice. And no one had ever done something like that just to get her attention. For her. “Hailey, I’m serious now: give the girl a chance. Give yourself a chance, woman!” Jay spoke again, pulling her out of her thoughts to notice that Kevin was nodding vigorously to it and Adam asking:
“Wow! When did Jay get this wise?” After that, she let out a laugh and prepared herself to go talk to you 𑁋 because, no matter how upfront you could be, Hailey Upton wasn’t about to let you make all the moves 𑁋, like she was getting ready for battle. With more cheers from her fan club, she made her way to the stage, where you were just getting down from.
The minute you saw her there, though, you literally lost your balance 𑁋 being that close to her seemed somewhat more intoxicating than the alcohol you’d drunk. But, just like in the movies, she held your arms before you could go any further. Her soft touch seemed like a dream to you.
“H- hi.” You said nervously, after steading yourself, while biting your bottom lip. Why were you getting that nervous? You didn’t even know the girl yet! But there was just something about her…
“Hi. I’m Hailey,” she said, holding out her hand for you to shake.
“I’m (y/n).” You responded by taking her hand in yours. Yeah. There was definitely something about her. That was why.

You checked your phone yet again, rolling your eyes at the newest message from your brother Adam asking you to be careful on your stake out. Shoving it back into your pocket you noticed Hailey’s amused smirk beside you in the car, the both of you a few hours into an all night stake out on a known gang hang out waiting for your suspect to surface.
“Adam again?” She asked, laughing a little as you nodded. Adam had never liked that you’d even joined the Police Academy, following your father’s and his footsteps.
“It’s like he still sees me as a kid,” you complained. When you’d been promoted up to Intelligence... he’d tried to get Voight to reconsider, his overprotective tendencies creating a bit of a rift between the two of you that hadn’t quite fully healed.
“He’s just looking out for you-” Hailey started, probably going to say more before her eyes locked onto something on the other side of the street. Your suspect had just arrived.
And he’d seen you.
He ran towards the house you’d been sitting on as you and Hailey jumped out of the car, calling in the sighting and requesting back up as he began to shoot in your direction.
Then... it all happened so fast, one second you were shooting back, trying to find cover as other gang members began to fire from the house, and the next you were looking up at the sky, your head swimming as you gasped for air; it felt like you were under water.
You felt yourself being moved, unable to do anything as you were pulled behind a car, Hailey’s face appearing over you. “Y/N! Stay with me Y/N,” you heard her say, pulling out her radio as your vision started to go dark.
No sound came out of your mouth, bullets still flying as Hailey spoke: “10 1 10 1, shots fired at the police, we have an officer down, repeat, officer down, we need back up and an ambo here right now!”
There was a crackle of a reply, a panicked male voice coming in over the radio that may have been Adam, but you couldn’t make it out anymore, you were too tired.
“No, no stay awake, Y/N, Y/N stay awake!” Hailey ordered desperately, but you couldn’t.
-
You woke up at Med, groggy and unsure of what had just happened, had you been shot? You must have been.
“Hey, welcome back,” a familiar and friendly voice said to one side, turning your heavy head to see Doctor Marcel smiling at you, “you gave us all quite a scare there, bullet perforated your lung, it’s a good thing you had a great surgeon on call to fix you up, you should make a full recovery.”
You smiled weakly, trying to talk even though your throat felt dry. Crockett helped you take a drink, sipping slowly. It was only water, but nothing had ever tasted better.
Your vision had barely come fully into focus when a figure barrelled in, Adam. Crockett took a step back, “I’ll give you guys a minute, take it easy Y/N,” he may have said your name, but he directed the intent at Adam, who looked out of his mind with worry and anger.
Once Crockett was gone Adam took a place beside you as you struggled to sit up a little. “Hey,” you said weakly, unsure of what else to say.
“’Hey’, that’s what you say, ‘hey’?” Adam looked baffled, but what else were you supposed to say? “Y/N, you got shot, your heart stopped in the ambulance ride over here, I thought... I was so worried. What were you thinking? What was Hailey-” He choked up, squeezing his eyes shut and taking a steady breath.
“Sorry? I didn’t exactly mean to get shot you know, and this isn’t on Hailey, she had my back,” you said a little defensively, watching as he shook his head, “it’s no one’s fault but the shooter.”
“Your heart stopped,” he repeated much quieter, all the anger deflating as he looked at you, eyes full of tears and vulnerability. Your shoulders sagged, taking in his disheveled appearance and tired eyes, he was still wearing the same clothes he had been when you’d last seen him, now creased and a little stained.
“I’m okay,” you told him after a moment, reaching out with an aching arm to grab his hand. He looked back up at you as you asked: “did you get the guy?”
Adam straightened up slightly and nodded, firmly grasping your hand. “Yeah, Hailey took him out after he shot you, we rounded up most of the guys in the house pretty quickly, got BOLOS out for the last two, but they’ll turn up.” He assured you.
“Good,” you smiled.
“Never scare me like that again, okay?” Adam told you sternly, meeting your eyes. He was serious, but the tension in his shoulders had gone, replaced with relief instead.
“Oh god, you’re going to be insufferably protective of me now aren’t you?” You jokingly complained, laughing a little even though it hurt.
“I’m your brother, what do you think?”

Not-So-Ex-Wife
From Anon:
15 and 52 with jay halstead x depressed/stubborn reader whos also in intelligence please? thanks 👍🏻
Words: 2057 Warnings: Canon-typical violence Pairing: Jay Halstead x Reader A/N: Hope you like it!
“What’s up your ass today, (Y/L/N)?”
Any other day, that sentence would be playful banter that you’d engage and reply at the same level. Any other day, you would be in a good mood, even in the early morning. Any other day, you would not want to murder Adam the moment those words left his lips. But today was not any other day.
“Would you mind ever so kindly minding your own fucking business, Ruzek?” You snap, sitting at your desk and logging into your computer to begin the workday.
“Have you had your coffee yet? You sound like you need a caffeine fix.” Adam continues, continuing to push your nerves. You glare at him over the screen, the murderous intent clear as day in your eyes.
“Adam, either you cut it out or the case we’ll be solving today will be your murder.” You growl, sinking back into the chair and watching the computer screen as it loads. You take a pencil from the mug on your desk and twirl it around your fingers, trying to distract yourself.
You clench your jaw when Jay walks in and it goes unnoticed by precisely no one, Adam raising his brow as the pencil in your hand cracks slightly under your grip. Voight walks out of his office, waving a folder in his hand as Jay sits down.
“Halstead, you’re late.” Voight remarks, opening the folder and sticking some pictures onto the whiteboard. “We have a hot case. Some kids were playing on the trail when they found a woman’s body. Tracy Delaya, 25, choked briefly before being stabbed.”
“I’ve seen this M.O. before, back in Homicide.” You say, pointing at the peculiar stab pattern. “All women, early twenties, and by the pattern of the stabbing, I’d say she’s a Taurus.”
“What?” Adam is the one voicing the collective confusion as you get up and take a closer look at the stab wounds on the victim. You get back to your computer, pulling up the cold case files and printing them.
“Back when I was in Homicide we caught a string of cases like this.” You say, grabbing the freshly printed paper and pinning it to the whiteboard beside Tracy’s picture. “Anna, Clara, Dora, Patricia, and now Tracy. Anna was Capricorn, Clara was Aquarius, Dora was Pisces, Patricia was Aries, Tracy is Taurus. He’s following the star signs calendar with his murders.”
“He?”
“We got some DNA evidence on Clara, she scratched him. The DNA was degraded to the point where we couldn’t get an ID, but we could determine it was male.” You grab the felt pen and begin to write under the pictures, scribbling the women’s names, ages, and star signs. “The stab wounds have the pattern of the star sign’s constellation. He’s going after a Gemini now.”
“Do you still have contact with witnesses and CIs involved in this case?” Voight asks, making you scratch the back of your neck as you think.
“It was a few years ago, but I’ll give it a shot.” You say, grabbing your badge and your gun from the top of your desk and clipping them on your pants’ waist.
“Take someone with you.” Voight calls out after you, and you don’t even stop to call the person.
“Adam, come on.” You say, strutting down the stairs. The rest of the team exchange confused looks before Adam follows you downstairs and into your car, sitting in the passenger seat and facing you with a questioning look on his face.
“It’s always Jay. Jay’s your partner. What the hell is going on, (Y/L/N)?” Adam asks as you start the car, your eyes fixated on the road.
“Well, maybe I want to change it up. Maybe I’m too mad at something to even be able to see Jay. Maybe I’m entitled to have feelings.” You say, getting a confused squeak from Adam right as his phone rings with a text message.
“See. He’s asking me why you’re mad at him.” Adam mumbles. “What happened? Why are you mad?”
“Maybe if he didn’t lie to me, I wouldn’t be mad.” You say, tapping your fingers on the steering wheel when you get to a red stoplight. “Maybe if I hadn’t believed that he was different and that we had something nice going on I wouldn’t be like this. I always get my hopes up and now I’m fucked, as per usual, and I’m fucking angry at it, and at myself for allowing me to believe something good was coming out of this.”
“Stop, freeze frame, rewind, hold on for a second.” Adam says, shaking his head as he tries to make sense of what you just said. “You had something nice going on? He lied to you? Are the two of you dating or something?”
“…It’s complicated.” You grumble, going forward as soon as the sign turns green. “We meet up after work for drinks at either his or my place, we talk for hours, it’s been really nice, you know? Like one of those cliché relationship starts from the movies. It was probably just some normal partner relationship and I read too much into it. Anyway, I got carried away into thinking it was something more, and I saw him with someone else yesterday.”
“This… This is confusing. But this is also grounds for me to win the bet.” Adam says, rubbing his hands as you raise your brow at him. “Who was he with, though?”
“Abby McSweeney.” You snap, your grip on the wheel tightening as Adam’s eyebrows reach his forehead. “His darling ex-who-isn’t-really-ex-wife.”
“Oh wow.”
“Yeah. So I’m pissed. Mostly at myself, but seeing his face definitely does not help.”
You can see Ruzek picking up his phone and typing fervently as you park the car. You shake your head and get out of the car, spotting a hooded man walking towards one of your previous witnesses.
Drawing your gun, you creep up until you see the man just a couple of steps away from your witness, something metallic glinting in his hand.
“Chicago PD!” You shout, aiming your gun and stalking forward, making the man stop in his tracks before turning around and running in the opposite direction. You turn to Adam, nodding with your head towards the witness. “Adam, stay with her!”
You take off running after the man, feeling your muscles burning as you sprint as fast as you can, turning corners and leaping obstacles.
“Goddamn it (Y/L/N), wait up!” Adam shouts, sounding out of breath. “50-21 Ida, requesting back-up, two plain clothed officers pursuing a suspect on foot.”
You cut your path through a narrow alley and will yourself to go faster, tackling the suspect to the ground. You shout when the knife in his hand connects with your arm and then knicks your face, making you wrestle the knife out of his grasp and away from him, landing a few solid punches before Adam catches up and points his gun at the man on the floor, reinforcing the idea that he had nowhere to go.
You get up and get your cuffs, arresting the man and wiping the blood off your face.
“Never mind that, Main. Suspect is in custody.” Adam says into his radio, turning to you. “You know that fighting people, both verbal and physically, isn’t the only solution available for when things don’t go your way, right?”
-
The rest of the day seems to trickle by slowly, annoying you to no end. When the clock finally reaches the clock-out time, all of you get up and gather your things to go home for the day.
“Anyone up to go to Molly’s?” Kevin asks, giving everyone puppy eyes. You shake your head, putting on your jacket.
“Not me, I’m going home.” You say, gathering your house keys and jacket. “Long day, I’m sore, I need a bath and my bed.”
“Oh c’mon (Y/N), please join us!” He begs, hugging you from behind and making you chuckle.
“I’m really not in the mood Kev, I’m sorry. Some other time, ok?” You negotiate, making him let you go.
You wave your goodbyes at everyone before making your way down the stairs, making your way to your car. You exit the precinct’s doors and see the tanned brunette standing by Jay’s car, your blood beginning to boil over once again before you shake your head and briskly walk towards your car.
You unlock the driver’s door and get in, just sitting behind the wheel for a while as you watch the rest of the team leave the precinct through your rear-view mirror. With a clenched jaw, you watch as Jay goes to her. You fire up the engine and put on your seatbelt, pulling out of the parking lot and driving back to your apartment.
You curse internally as you park your car in front of your apartment building and see Jay’s GMC pulling up on the opposite side; before, living across the street from your partner and best friend seemed like a godsend, but now it just seemed like a cruel punishment. You turn off your car and undo your seatbelt, trying to get out of the car and into the apartment building before Jay notices that you’re only just arriving as well, but no such luck.
He crosses the road in a jog, catching up to you as you’re making your way up the stairs and grabbing your arm, turning you around.
“What’s going on?” He asks, his blue eyes pleading as he tries to find the answer on your face. “We’re partners, and today you ditched me for Ruzek? You didn’t even talk to me all day. What did I do?”
“Nothing.” You say, pulling your arm out of his grasp. You hate yourself for how much you’re about to lie, but you can’t let him know the truth. “Just felt like switching it up a bit.”
You unlock the outer door, greeting your downstairs neighbor as you pass by her in the hallway. You can hear Jay hot on your tail and curse internally, hoping he just gets the message and leaves you alone.
“You’re not acting like usual, (Y/N). Please, talk to me.”
“Aren’t we all not acting like usual?” You can’t help yourself but remark, rolling your eyes at him. You can hear a little shocked huff coming from Jay as you unlock the door and take one step inside before turning around and blocking the entrance for him. “Look, Jay, I just want to relax a bit and tend to my cuts and sore muscles, ok? Just leave it.”
“I can’t leave it.” He says, planting his hand firmly on the door as you move to close it. “I want to know what I did wrong.”
“You didn’t do anything wrong; I was the one screwing up.” You say, hating the tremble that presents itself in your voice. “I was the one dumb enough to believe you’d ever see me as anything more than a partner and a friend, I was the one dumb enough to believe anyone could love me. Truth is, I don’t deserve to be loved, and I fooled myself into thinking otherwise. I hope you and Abby are happy.”
You’re sniffling by the end of your little rant, your eyes glued on the floor as silence fills the hallway. You meekly move to close the door, feeling the tears brimming your eyes when Jay bursts inside, nearly tackling you. He holds you up and closes the door with his foot, eyes wide with disbelief.
“You think me and Abby are together?” He asks, his eyebrows furrowed. “I’m not, this is a huge misunderstanding, oh my god. I’ve been meeting her because we’re finally formalizing the divorce. I served her papers a couple weeks ago. And what bullshit it that about not deserving to be loved? You’re one of the most lovable people I know, (Y/N). Hell, I don’t even know how long I fell head over heels with you, but I did, and I fell so fucking hard, you have no idea.”
The tears fall from your face as he gently cups it, leaning his forehead against yours as you start laughing hysterically before he leans in and presses a gentle kiss on your lips.
“Want to stay and watch a movie?”
“Of course.”

Undercover | Will Halstead (part 1)
Pairing: Will Halstead x Ruzek!reader
Word count: 1,174
Summary: Y/N is Adam Ruzek's sister but she is also very good at being undercover. Her aptitudes are very good for a cop, except she isn’t one. One night she chooses the wrong target and everything starts to go wrong.
Warnings: +16, kinda hot, robbery.
Part 2
The woman started walking to the bar. The stilettos resonated with every step she took. She took one look until she found a target. Bingo.
A tall man, he had a suit that looked expensive and was taking a long drink. She could smell the dollars from a distance. She came over and sat down on the bench next to him.
Her butt, tight in that little red dress, looked bigger than ever. She took advantage of that and sat down in the middle of the seat to make it look even more voluptuous.
“A martini, please" she muttered to the barman. She stretched out on the table to order and of course, he looked just where she wanted him to.
“I invite you" a male voice appeared. She turned around and looked at him from top to bottom. “And get one for me too.”
“Do you think you'll get my attention that easily?" she said in a British accent, making things more difficult. She knew what she was doing, it wasn't the first time. Men like him liked to play before they got to second base.
“Haven't you been watching me since you arrived?” The man raised an eyebrow, looking ironic. Y/N didn't like what she had heard. She had been looking at him longer than she should have, and of course, he noticed.
“Do you want the truth?" She said, in the sexiest voice he'd ever heard. She played with his long blond hair a little. “I had never been with a redheaded man before.”
He laughed. He put his tongue to his lips to soak them. She knew what he was doing. He was stalling because he didn't know what to say. Touché.
“Welcome to America, miss, the land of opportunity.”
The martinis came and both of them approached. Y/N was taking the bait, just like she wanted.
“And what's your story?” He asked, "Are you on vacation here?”
She took a little sip and nodded. “I'm here for work. I arrived just today.”
“And did you like what you saw so far?”
She looked him in the eyes and gave him a captivating look. “I like it very much, yes.”
It took a couple more drinks to make things more comfortable. The guy said they could go to his house. Y/N was a little sorry for him. The truth was she was liking him. Under different conditions, she would have liked to have done things right. When he parked the car, the girl took her time to inspect the place, before getting out. She was grateful there were no security cameras anywhere on the block. As soon as she crossed the threshold of his door, she knew she hadn't made a mistake.
He was a surgeon at Chicago Med. He probably had everything she had come for. The woman took off her coat as she watched him. He was putting the personal items he had taken out of his pockets on a small table by the door. Keys, cell phone, wallet. “Will you have a drink?”
She smiled at him. “Don't you think we've had enough to drink?” The young woman was on the sofa, her legs were crossed, one on top of the other. She wasn't stupid. She knew her dress had been lifted. And she knew that was all he was looking at.
“Yes, I think you're right. I'm sorry.” He pounced on her. She immediately felt the couch sink under her. The man's hands caressed her entire body over her dress as both mouths melted into a passionate kiss. They seemed to be struggling to breathe but neither wanted to break the bond anyway. She pulled the buttons on his shirt to pull it out. She was the one who took the initiative, of course. She took his belt with one hand and unbuckled it, while with the other she unzipped his pants.
“Hey, hey, wait” the doctor stepped back. He looked into her eyes in the darkness, illuminated only by a lamp “I don't even know your name.”
“I don't know yours either” she decided to take the lead in the situation and made him fall on the couch beside her. She ran both legs over his. She started kissing his neck.
“My name is Will” he said. “And yours?”
“You can call me Agatha Christie, Will.” He began to laugh at her comment and let himself be kissed by her. He unzipped her dress and gently stroked her back.
“Are you going to let me finish what I started or are you suddenly part of the CIA, Will?” He nodded, no longer paying much attention. He just let himself go. And so he kept doing it. “Yeah, I thought so” Y/N continued her work by starting to leave a path of kisses from his neckk, through his chest, his biceps, his stomach... all the way down. “Oh, wait” she stopped. “If we're gonna do this, we need protection.”
“Oh, yeah. I got one in-”
“Don't worry?” she said, smiling “I got it. I'll get my bag, I'll be right back.” She kissed him one last time and walked to her purse. It was small enough to carry everything she needed. That meant a gun and a syringe. Usually, she didn't use the gun (although she didn't hesitate if the time came) but she did use the syringe, without fail. She filled it, in the middle of the darkness, trying to do it quickly so as not to arouse suspicion.
Seven milligrams of midazolam. Perfect.
She hid the needle in her hand, drawing his attention as she approached so the man would not notice. “Did you find it?” He asked as she approached. “Of course I did.” She climbed onto his legs, once more, and pulled his hair. He groaned, making her feel things. Things she never felt when she was doing her business. But Y/N didn't have time to think about it now. She stuck the tip of the needle in the man's back and injected the liquid into him. She continued to kiss him for at least forty more seconds until she realized he was already asleep. She separated from him.
“I'm sorry, Will, you were really cute.” Y/N don't know about sentimental. She didn't have any time to waste. She went up and down the house looking for money. She found some cash, she was sure it wasn't much for him, but for her, every penny counted. She took one last look at him, grabbed her shoes and her wallet. She dressed presentably once more so she could get the hell out of there. Once she got to the door she took his wallet. She took all the credit cards he had. She felt something in his stomach as soon as she saw his ID photo. But it couldn't be guilt. Y/N L/N didn't feel guilt, ever.
“I’m really sorry," she whispered as she put away what she had found in her purse and bra, even though she knew he couldn't hear her.

It's Not Like That
Pairing: Adam Ruzek x Reader
Requested: @monicaaaaatje
Summary: You have a crush on Kim and your brother Adam wants a little chat with you.
GIF Not Mine
Lately, Adam has been noticing you getting closer to his ex, Kim. It started off with you sitting next to her when they go to Molly’s and talking to her, getting to know her. It then grew from harmless talking as friends in the bar to hanging out outside of Molly’s. You would invite her to dinner as you have found a new restaurant to try that’s apparently amazing. Adam knows all of your moves, most of them you got from him. He tried to forget about it and reassure himself that you were only friends with her but the more he sees you with her the more he gets jealous.
One night at Molly’s Adam finally plucked up the courage to confront you. Kim went to the toilet to freshen up leaving only you and Adam at the table. Adam turned to you and asked. “What are you doing, man?”
“What do you mean?” You replied trying to act naturally as you had an inclining about what he was on about.
“Do I have to spell it out?” You looked at him not knowing what he was on about. “You and Kim. I know your games, Y/N.”
“And this is what? You trying to be the hero here? If I remember correctly you were the one who mistreated her and let her go. Besides it’s not like that.”
“What’s it like then?” Adam asked ignoring your previous comment about him and Kim.
“I like her, okay?” You admitted.
“Why, Y/N? Why Kim? Why my ex?” Adam groaned.
“I don’t know, man. It’s just… when I am around her and when I look at her I feel different, I’ve never felt like this before.” You smiled to yourself thinking about Kim.
Adam noticed Kim was coming back to the table and told you in a low tone so only you could hear him. “Whatever you do, don’t hurt her. Oh and remember I carry a gun.”
Requests are open
A/N: so this is my first time writing in a male point of view (although I don’t think I’ve mentioned the gender). I’d be happy to write more for a male reader. I am going to try and be better at making sure in the future I write gender neutral. 💕

pairings: jay halstead x hailey upton and adam ruzek x hailey upton
summary: hailey is faced with a difficult decision regarding her relationship status and comes to terms with her feelings about jay and adam.
word count: 1.7k
warning note: this is a third person point of view story with *no reader. it is subtle mfm-ish at beginning but the ending is mf with upstead (jay and hailey). ruzek does not up heartbroken.
requested by @stephanie708
note: thank you for this one! i didn't make it necessarily 'fighting' but more subtle, hope that's okay! i like how it turned out though. :)
edited note: i just realized in season 8 on how she talks about the fact that she's better with jay. and noticed how canon this is even though i totally forgot she said that. oops! lol
hailey has been partners with jay for years and never mistook their friendship for something more until today.
recently, she and adam broke up. relationships for her were hard and she just wanted some space and time to think.
she didn't want to disrupt the work atmosphere. especially being as voight was hard on them as it is with in-work relationships.
what she didn't know either was that adam still liked her that much to stand up to his friend. he couldn't let the pretty, intelligent, one of a kind blonde woman get away before they even had a chance to become a serious couple.
for them it was always fun with no feelings or stress involved. it hurt him that hailey hadn't wanted to become serious before they ended.
instead, adam figured hailey had painted this picture that he was poking around to make room in her life that she didn't want.
jay also liked hailey but didn't know how to go about it. he liked having her as his partner, it was easy to be with her when they were in the field.
always having her back no matter what. even during cases, they always trusted each other's instincts. jay could even go as far to say that he fell in love with hailey. he couldn't deny the possibility that they were destined soulmates.
the idea of being with her every second of every day, including the mornings and nights. jay wanted to know what it felt like to truly see hailey's guard down and not only see the reactions made by her conscious when they were working on a case.
with adam though, she was able to let go and just be. they never fought or argued about any disagreements. if they wanted to go to the bar, they'd make jokes and laugh. or if they went clubbing, they danced and drank with no care.
it was easy with adam to just be herself. but jay, she always seemed to want to be better for him.
better.
a word she never thought she'd ever use in her life. sure, she wanted her dad to do better when she was younger, but knew he was just another lost cause.
hailey wanted her mother to find better but she never did, choosing to stay with her father who didn't deserve her.
perhaps her father and mother had some kind of hold over her. it always reflected back to her home life as a kid.
even now as an adult, hailey didn't tolerate anger if it wasn't needed, nor did she like loud male voices. it always stuck. therefore, she always wanted to do what was best and better for her.
it was about five and a half weeks since their break up. it really didn't feel that long though because they had cases back to back. even adam didn't particularly like that they haven't really talked much since the break-up but he wanted to change that today.
when she walked in that morning, adam was sitting on the top of her desk. he was bent forward, arms on his knees with his hands clasped together.
his blonde hair was getting long, it reaching mid-way on his forehead and when he saw her, a sly grin was immediately on his face. "hey grumpy." he teased, morning voice still noticeable.
his raspiness in the morning was always a turn on when she woke up with him in the bed. figuring he only had one cup of coffee so far.
hailey took off her big, puffy jacket since it was a particularly cold wednesday morning, she needed to keep warm.
hailey shook her head at the nickname he used. adam often used it in the morning to help her lighten up. especially when she wasn't in the mood for his antics.
mostly, he liked the rise hailey gave him ninety-nine percent of the time.
"adam." hailey warned, walking up to her desk that he currently resided at. his eyes lit up at her tone and he chuckled, getting off her desk.
"she's gonna kick your ass one day." kevin teased, offering a coffee to hailey. she nodded her appreciation to kev and took a big sip, despite how hot it was, being right from the pot.
"hey! not nice bro. thought you were on my side. partner and all." adam joked and kev rolled his eyes at the dramatics.
a 'mmm' sound came from her lips, loving the immediate caffeine while not realizing the mistake she made. two heads turned, adam and jay eyes gazed their sights on the blonde.
jay has watched his partner innocently sip the warm drink before. but lately, something about the way her cheeks heated, hooked him.
the smile that graced her face when she looked at him, even if it was late, he always grinned back without difficulty. she had him practically wanting to go on his knees for her.
what he wouldn't do to receive a chance from her. to impress and take her out, bring her to his place for more.
jay had thought she was pretty when they first met. erin left recently and he had ironically been paired with another blonde.
deep down he thought voight was making fun of him but knew, it wasn't the case. instead an act of fate.
it's a funny word to think of. fate. the only logic answer for how deeply he felt about hailey, slowly falling for her every day.
the way her smile made his day better. her laugh, witty remarks and sarcasm. the way she had with words to instantly make him feel better. as soon as his favorite blonde turned to look at him though, nothing else mattered.
like right now for example, hailey was pleading at jay. the two were conversing through eye contact. something they picked up from being partners for years now.
it was all playful though because just as adam noticed, jay laughed loudly. of course with jay's poor luck, voight walked up the stairs into their main intelligence room and raised an eyebrow in the halstead's direction.
jay cleared his throat but knew it wasn't serious because voight gave them leeway if they weren't busy with a case at that moment.
"something funny, ruzek?" voight teased, hearing what had happened while he took his sweet time to show the team his arrival. "no sir." ruzek replied.
he grabbed a file from mouse, who was currently handing out individual ones about a new case they had gotten in.
adam finished the rest of his coffee and put the mug on his desk for now before flipping it open like the rest of the team started doing.
six hours later, two men were behind bars and the case was closed. the team, minus voight and alvin, were at molly's with their poison of drink.
they split costs, each offering to pay for rounds which was something they do as a group usually twice a week. hailey watched jay from the corner of her eyes, and then glanced at adam.
both were standing beside her at the table. she sighed in her mind and tossed back her drink to finish while thinking about what happened earlier today.
"hailey!" adam yelled in the back parking lot of the precinct. they were nearing the end of the case, mouse just needed to use tech software to get the area where the suspects were hiding out at.
she slowed her steps, allowing the taller blonde to reach her and when he neared, she glanced up to meet his eyes. "adam." hailey responded, short and sweet like she usually did during a case so she wouldn't get distracted.
"i've been meaning to talk to you for awhile." he started. adam's hand fidgeted and to hide the reaction, he placed his fingertips through his hair. huffing at the nervousness he currently felt.
"i know, we've been pretty busy lately. it's not your fault though." she responded, carefully pacing herself.
"i was wondering if you wanted to get a drink tonight. maybe talk about getting back together?" he asked, hopeful.
"adam-" she started to talk, pausing and watching his reaction. "i'm sorry but i liked what we had. i really did. but i think you need to come clean to kim about your feelings."
"huh? what does kim have to do with us?"
"you and kim are the couple that's meant to be. we were using each other to mend our hearts and i think you know that. but i hope we can still be close friends?" she voiced, ending her statement in a questioning tone.
he glanced down at the pavement, toeing a spot of gravel with his boots. his eyes slowly raised back up to meet hers and he let out a thankful sigh. "of course we can hailey! of course. and i'm sorry."
that only happened two hours ago, and hailey and adam were good friends again, as if nothing happened. "another round?" kevin questioned but hailey shook her head.
"no that's it for me tonight kev. thanks for tonight, see everybody tomorrow." she stated and picked up the jacket that was resting on the back of her chair, wrapping it around her body.
hailey gave everybody a quick side hug on her way out, placing a couple of dollar bills on the table to clear her tab and an additional tip.
as soon as hailey was out the door, she heard jay call her name and she turned around. "you too?" she questioned.
he paused to look around and shrugged. "hailey, i need to tell you something."
the blonde tucked her hands in the pockets of her jacket and walked over to stand on the side of the bar's building with jay. she shivered and beckoned him on, "go on."
"i'm just going to come out and say it. i've liked you for awhile. i know you and adam had a thing going on but i can't help but notice you've been keeping some distance from him." jay trailed off, watching her posture to see if he should continue.
she nodded. "yeah, we decided to call it a few weeks back."
"oh. okay, well i was wondering if maybe you wanted to go out tomorrow night after work?" he suggested, hoping to get a positive response.
hailey smiled and grinned. "yes, i'd like that."
"walk you to your car, hails?" he asked, putting his hand on the small of her back and she leaned into his touch. "okay."

I Want Us Part 1
Fandom: Chicago PD / SVU
Series: I Want Us
Part 1 // Part 2 // Part 3 // Part 4 // Part 5 // Part 6 // Part 7 // Part 8 // Part 9 // Part 10 (Final)
Character/s: Reader x Carisi
Warning/s: mentions of kidnapping
Word Count: 2,171
Request: Hi! So, idk if you will be up for writing a kind of crossover, if not it's totally okay. I was thinking reader being a detective in chicago pd but they go help svu with a case and she and carisi (still detective) have something ?? First meeting and stuff or more deep as in long distance relationship and reader gets pregnant so one of them have to leave their city ?? Idk I want you to feel comfortable writing whatever inspires you more. Amazing work btw!!
Summary: When a child abduction case crosses state lines in New York, Intelligence flies out to meet the Special Victims Unit and track down the missing boy. With the clock ticking, both units decide to mix up partners in order to combine their knowledge of the case with knowledge of New York City, pairing Intelligence’s newest member Y/N with Detective Carisi.
“I’m telling you boss, it’s like he’s just vanished,” Adam insisted, leaning forward in his chair as he spoke to Voight, who was standing in front of a whiteboard filled with potential leads and locations of your suspect and his son, Logan, who he kidnapped in the early hours of the morning, none of which had panned out.
Voight looked increasing frustrated, and you didn’t blame him, the father and your suspect, Ronny had just been released from Statesville for assault and battery of his former spouse and older child. You were all scared for this boy’s safety and well aware of how quickly the odds of survival decreased as the clock continued to tick.
Jay and Hailey had interviewed the family, the mother Claire and his older sister Josie, and were now at Hailey’s desk going over the statements, with Jay obviously sat on it instead of on a chair. Kev and Vanessa had gone to the prison, talked to Ronny’s cell mate and old friends, the warden, anyone who might have overheard him mention any plans. Leaving you and Antonio to review any surveillance, put out BOLOS and search the bogus address Ronny had given his parole officer.
You’d all turned up a sum total of nothing.
“There has to be something,” Voight addressed the room, facing his unit with conviction, “go back over what we’ve got so far, we must have missed something, overlooked something, anything.”
Adam spoke up again and you knew why, he’d already gone back over the witness statements, reinterviewed everyone with Kim who said they might have seen or heard anything in the neighbourhood, it was a dead end. “Listen-”
“No, you listen,” Voight snapped and you winced a little, you might have all been thinking the same thing as Ruzek, but he was the only one who usually ever said what was on everybody’s minds, putting him on the receiving end of Voight’s temper. “Unless you want to go downstairs and tell that terrified mother that her son’s ‘just vanished’, you shut up and do you job, clear?”
You’d been in the unit a couple of years now and you were damn proud to be here. No matter how frustrating this was, you still had faith that you would catch the bad guy, this unit did it’s job and it did it well, you just hoped you wouldn’t be too late for Logan.
Ruzek begrudgingly nodded and so did the rest of you even though Voight hadn’t waited for an answer, heading straight back into his office. Turning back in your chair to your desk, you looked to where you were midway through re-combing the surveillence in the area for any sign of a vehicle Ronny might have fled in. He only had one registered in his name, and you and Antonio had found it less than a block from the foreclosed house he’d put as his current residence. Someone had clearly been squatting there, but there wasn’t anything useful in the house or in the beat up old car.
You were just starting to think that maybe they had actually vanished off of the face of the earth when Trudy made her way up the stairs. “CCTV camera just picked up Ronny and Logan, dyed hair and new clothes but facial rec seems to be a match,” she announced, getting all your attention as Voight made his way out of his office.
“Where?” He asked her, noticing the not so triumphant look on Trudy’s face.
“JFK Airport,” she replied, met with annoyed sighs and confused looks. How had he gotten there? You were shocked to say the least, you and Antonio had made sure to call all the airports in Chicago to make sure this guy didn’t flee.
“He’s in New York?” Hailey looked to Voight, waiting like the rest of you were to be told what to do next.
“One of his old prison buddies relocated there last year,” Kev told you all, rifling through his paperwork to find the information he was looking for, “yeah, Ryan O’Connell, got a rep for making people disappear, some that want to, some that don’t.”
“Looks like we’re going to New York,” he decided, aware that the ever ticking clock was now getting faster, you needed to find them now. “I’ll call ahead, get some boots on the ground before we arrive, we’ll roll out as soon as we can. Upton, get the family up to speed, see if they know where he might go in New York.” She nodded.
You all packed up to leave, needing to make arrangements before you could just fly out. “Who’s he calling?” You asked your partner as you headed for the stairs.
“Captain Benson I assume,” he told you, elaborating when he saw that that hadn’t clarified much, “oh I forget, you weren’t with us then. We’ve done a couple of cases with the Special Victims Unit over there, good people and cops, especially their Captain, this is their kind of case.”
You nodded, you’d heard about some of the cases Intelligence had done in New York, especially about Nadia Decotis, and you were looking forward to getting the chance to work with them, circumstances aside.
Voight text you all details about the flight and you left to prepare, you had a job to do and a boy to find, and you were determined to find him.
-
While the flight itself wasn’t actually that long, it felt like forever, ever second ticking past putting you and the unit further behind Ronny and Logan. You knew it would be straight to business the second your feet hit the tarmac, but Voight had assured you all that although he’d only had time to briefly fill SVU in about the case, they had made finding this boy their top priority. If it was good enough for Voight, it was good enough for you, so you passed the time by looking at everything you had on this O’Connell so you had somewhere to start when you arrived.
There were cars waiting when you arrived, taking you straight to the 16th Precinct and the Special Victims Unit. It was much bigger than the 21st, and nicer too. You had never really spent any time in New York, but it was all just as impressive as you’d heard.
“Hank,” a woman smiled, making her way to greet you all at the entrance of the Unit’s bullpen.
“Olivia,” Hank shook her hand with familiarity, this must have been the Captain. “It’s Captain now isn’t it, congratulations.”
“Thanks, it’s been an adjustment,” she replied, shaking hands with the rest of Intelligence and welcoming them inside.
“Well, it’s certainly well deserved,” Jay told her as the rest of SVU headed over to introduce, or reintroduce, themselves.
“Thanks Halstead,” she smiled, reaching you and Vanessa last. “We haven’t met, I’m Captain Olivia Benson,” she told you.
“Officer Vanessa Rojas,” Vanessa told her, following after Kev to be introduced to the rest of the Unit.
“Detective Y/N. Y/L/N,” you continued, “I’ve heard good things.”
“Likewise, Hank mentioned he had a couple of new members,” she said, leading you further into the main room, “this is Sergeant Tutuola, Detectives Rollins and Carisi, and Officer Tamin,” she gestured around the group as you all shook hands.
You could tell Voight wanted this part to hurry along, eager to get stuck into the case, so you said the generic ‘nice to meet yous’ and stepped out of the way as Voight and Benson positioned themselves at the front of the group.
“So fill us in,” Voight addressed her as he passed out extra copies of your case files to the rest of SVU.
“Okay, so we followed Ronny’s tracks as far as we could after he left JFK, but by the time any unis arrived he was in the wind, we’ve got BOLOS out but nothing so far, although a surveillance camera did pick up the vehicle he left in,” Benson explained.
“Plates?” You asked but she shook her head, bringing up a shot of the back of the car on the screen nearest to her. It was a long way away from your whiteboards and blue tac, you thought.
“Stollen, but we’re trying to match the make and model with any recent reports of car thefts,” she answered.
“Any we’re tracking the names they used to get through airport security,” the male detective, Carisi, continued, “checking for any credit or debit cards under the same names as their fake passports.”
“They must have been good, do we know where Ronny got them from yet?” Hailey asked as Benson got up the images of their passports too, complete with fake names, fake addresses and disguises.
“We’re thinking this O’Connell guy,” Tutuola told her, “he’s got the connections and experience, and this must have been in the works for a while.”
“Yeah, we’re looking at anyone and everyone he’s been in contact with in prison, seeing if any of them might have sent him any packages or had any New York connections,” Rollins said.
“We’ve already gone through the prison logs,” Jay countered, “we know O’Connell did time with him before he got out last year.”
“Yeah, but since then they don’t appear to have had any direct contact, so we’re thinking there’s a middle man, probably the figure you can see in the drivers seat of the car they took from JFK, O’Connell rarely does business in person, that’s why we only had him in for a minor possession stint,” Rollins grabbed a file on O’Connell’s record and handed it to Jay to flip through.
“Can we get a clearer image on that?” Adam asked, pointing to the blurred image of the car. You squinted at the image, trying to get a better look, but the man was clearly wearing a hat and shades, even if they managed to tidy it up, facial recognition would be a waste of time.
“Unfortunately not, but we’re doing everything we can,” Benson said.
“So what now?” Antonio voiced up, all of you turning to your Sergeant and Captain Benson.
“We’re in your house, it’s your call,” Voight said to Benson. He had a lot of respect for her, you noted, he never gave up point on a case so easily.
“Well with your know-how on the case, and our knowledge of New York, we though it was best to combine teams, partner up one of us and one of yours,” she looked back at both units, still stood a little apart from one another, and you and Antonio shared the briefest glance, seeing the other partners in your unit do the same.
You worked well together, all of you did, and let’s be honest, Intelligence had never been very good at sharing, but if it was what was best for Logan, so be it. It hadn’t escaped anyone’s notice that the numbers didn’t add up, so you waited to see who would be moved around.
“Fin, you mind going with Dawson?” Benson gestured to the two men, who happily nodded and Antonio gave you an encouraging nod before he headed off the join the Sergeant at his desk.
“Halstead and Rollins, Upton and Kat,” she continued with Voight’s approval and you knew you’d be next, she’d done her best not to split up any of Intelligence’s partners entirely. “Which leaves Carisi and Y/L/N,” you nodded and so did he.
“Well then, let’s get to it,” Voight ordered, “we’ve got a child to find before he disappears.” With that, he and Benson went to go talk in her office, leaving you all with your new partners.
“First time in New York?” He asked you as he grabbed a chair for you to sit at his desk. You could see notes on the case covering most of the surface, potential locations O’Connell may use and streets that the car may have turned down after they lost it on surveillance, none of which looked familiar to you.
“I got a connecting flight through here once,” you shrugged, feeling out of your element away from Chicago and fully understanding why Captain Benson thought it best to mix up the units.
Carisi chuckled as you took your seat, pulling out the files you’d brought with you from Chicago. “We’re on O’Connell,” he explained, “these are all the files on his known and potential locations.”
You leaned closer to take a look at what he’d been doing. “That’s a lot of ground to cover,” you noted, feeling a sense of dread. O’Connell’s file had him as one of the best, and Ronny had a head start, they might not even be in the state anymore.
Carisi seemed to sense your worry. “We’ve got traffic stops in and out of the city, ports and airports, he won’t slip through again,” he tried to reassure you, but you knew he wasn’t entirely convinced either.
He handed you one of his files and you handed him one of yours. “Let’s get started.”

Here For You
Fandom: Chicago PD / One Chicago
Series: Here For You
Part 1 // Part 2 // Part 3 // Part 4 // Part 5 // Part 6 // Part 7 // Part 8 (Final)
Character/s: Reader x Jay, Reader’s brother Henry, Hailey, Adam, Maggie
Warning/s: pregnancy, death, pretty sloppy writing
Word Count: 2,716
Request: Would you do a Jay Halstead x Reader imagine were the reader either has a kid or is pregnant with one and they meet when her brother is involved in a case, Please?🥺
Summary: Y/N’s brother Henry becomes an accidental witness in a gang shooting that left four innocents dead along with two members of a rival gang. Jay persuades him to make a statement in an attempt to catch the people responsible, but when word gets out, his life, and that of his pregnant sister’s, are in danger so Jay does everything he can to make it right.
“I screwed up Y/N, I really screwed up...” Your brother, Henry, said frantically, pacing back and forth in your kitchen. He’d arrived a few minutes ago, bolting the door locked behind him, red faced and panting hard.
“Henry slow down,” you tried to reason, “you’re not making sense, what happened? What ever it is you need to tell me so I can help.” He shook his head and ran his hands over his face and through his hair, deep in thought and mumbling ‘no no no’. You sighed in frustration and put your hand on your belly, feeling your baby moving around. It’d been 3 months since you made the move to Chicago, 4 since your ex walked out on you after finding out you were pregnant. You were 5 months along now, it hadn’t been easy but you were making do, you didn’t know where you’d be without Henry, so to see him like this and not know how to help, after everything he’d done for you, was unbareable.
“Henry please,” you took a step towards him and put your hand on his shoulder. He stopped in his tracks and you looked into his eyes, filled with fear and shame, what had happened? “Talk to me,” your voice was quiet but firm, and he took a deep yet shaky breath to regain his composure. With a swallow and a nod he opened his mouth to tell you when there was a knock at the door, making him and you jump out of your respective skins. Henry’s eyes went wide as he glanced between you and the door, his whole body practically shaking.
There was a louder knock that had you scared now too as you put a protective hand on your belly, unsure of whether it was better to answer the door or not. “Chicago PD, open up!” A voice said inbetween knocks and you only slightly relaxed, you weren’t in any immediate danger but Henry was clearly in real trouble.
“Don’t open it,” he whispered, heading for the bedroom at the back.
You grabbed him by his sleeve to stop him and glared, “it’s the police, I’m not having them kicking our door in, let’s just open it and figure this out.”
“Y/N-” Henry tried but you were already on your way.
“Henry Y/L/N, this is the police, this is your last chance to open the door!” They yelled from outside.
You hurried your steps, panicking. “Coming!” You yelled, quickly unlocking all the bolts on the door and swinging it open to reveal two plain clothed officers.
“Evening ma’am, I’m Detective Halstead, this is Detective Upton, is Henry Y/L/N here?” The male detective asked, badge and gun clearly visible in the waistband of his jeans. You turned to see your brother stood a little away from the hall, face pale.
“Yeah, he’s here.” You said with a defeated sigh; whatever he’d done, lying to the police wasn’t going to help him.
“May we come inside? We need to ask him some questions, he isn’t in any trouble.” The female detective, Upton, asked with a friendly smile. You hesitated but nodded at last, moving aside so they could enter.
“What exactly is this about?” You inquired as all four of you ended up in the living room, Henry not meeting anyone’s eye.
“Sorry, you are?” Upton replied, looking you up and down.
“His sister,” you said, “now what do you want with my brother? Is everything okay?”
“Your brother didn’t tell you?” Halstead asked, looking between the two of you.
“No, otherwise I wouldn’t have asked,” you snapped and Halstead blinked. “Oh, er, sorry, it’s been a very long day, I haven’t had much sleep,” you apologised. The baby had kept you up most of the night, and this stress with your brother was so not what you needed right now.
“No worries,” he said to you before turning to your brother, who had taken a seat and looked was currently looking physically ill. “You want to tell her or should we?”
“They’re going to kill me aren’t they?” Henry mumbled and your head shot around to stare at him.
“Okay what the hell does that mean?” You all but yelled at him, “Henry I swear to God-”
“There was a gang shooting, your brother witnessed the entire thing, we were going to question him at the scene but he’d left by the time we got back to him. I guess he forgot that he gave us his details first,” Upton explained, much to your alarm.
“What does that mean? Does he have to give a statement? Make an ID or something?” You rattled off questions, your mind swimming. Halstead opened his mouth to answer but Henry cut him off.
“Oh hell no, this is Chicago, I know how this works, if I do that I’m as good as dead,” Henry argued, mindlessly picking at the cuffs of his sleeves.
“We know it’s risky, but no one has to know it was you alright, Henry four innocent bystanders were killed in that shooting, including two kids, so if you know something...” Upton trailed off as Henry’s face changed.
“Two kids?” He asked softly, like he couldn’t believe what he was hearing. Neither could you, had your brother really seen all this?
“We’re sorry to put you in this position, and we’ll do everything we can to keep you safe, but man if you saw something, which I think you did, you might just be the only person who can put the guys who did this behind bars where they belong.” Halstead looked at you and then back at your brother, as if silently asking you for your help.
“Henry-” you didn’t even have to finish, the tears in his eyes told you that he was on board, he was just scared out of his mind.
“Say I did see who did the shooting, what would happen then?” He stood up a little unsteadily and wiped his face.
“Well we’d take you down to the district, see if you could make an ID, and then find you a safe place to stay until all this was resolved, you may be called on to testify if it gets that far but how about we take this one step at a time.” Upton gave Henry a reassuring smile and he nodded, resolve, if not a little hesitation, in his eyes.
“Okay, okay yeah,” he mumbled.
“You sure?” You took his hand and gave it a squeeze.
“I’m sure Y/N. I got a nephew on the way now, I gotta make the city a little safer for him if I can right?” He laughed a little and squeezed your hand back.
“It’s a boy?” Halstead asked with a smiled.
“Henry certainly thinks so, but honestly I’m waiting til the birth, I want it to be a surprise,” you replied, feeling a little kick like it knew it was being talked about.
“You can come down too if you want, be there with him?” Upton suggested, seeing the concern for your brother all over your face. You nodded and all four of you headed to the door and down to the 21st.
Despite your concern for your brother, his commitment to this was admirable. You loved your brother, but when the going got touch he usually got going. Since you’d arrived in Chicago however, pregnant and alone, he’d really stepped up, got a job at a new restaurant downtown and had been doing some serious apartment hunting so that the baby could have a proper nursery when it came. He might have been your older brother but you had always been more of the big sister; you couldn’t be more proud of who he’d become.
-
You’d been at the district a few hours, your brother off talking with several different officers, detective and a scary looking sergeant called Voight. Sitting by your self in a waiting room looking area you flipped through some old magazines they had available and messed with your phone, bored and anxious to know what was happening with your brother.
Detective Halstead came in to check on you, offering you a water and some food.
“How’s Henry?” You asked, gratefully accepting the drink.
“He’s doing good, it’s looking like we’re going to catch these guys,” he told you, taking a seat on the other side of the table you were sat at. “How about you?”
“Oh I’m fine, just a little nervous for Henry-” A sharp kick in your stomach made you visibly wince as you stopped your sentence in your tracks.
“Kicker huh?” Halstead grinned.
“You have no idea, people always ask me if I’m having a boy or girl, but really the only thing I know if that I’m having a soccer player, or a kick boxer,” you both laughed. “You got kids detective?”
“Call me Jay,” he suggested, opening up one of the packets of crisps he’d brought in.
“Okay, you got kids Jay?” You asked as he popped some crisps into his mouth, turning the packet around to let you have some, you took a couple as he shook his head.
“No I don’t, maybe someday, but...” he shrugged. “Henry mentioned you only moved to Chicago recently, how are you liking the windy city?”
“It’s not bad, pizza’s okay,” you told him, “but honestly there’s so much I haven’t gotten the chance to see yet.”
“The pizza’s only okay?” He feigned being offended, “now that just tells me you haven’t had the best kinds, Bartoli’s, I highly recommend it.”
“Oh yeah,” you grinned, “I’ll keep that in mind.”
A knock at the door drew you from your conversation, Henry was there with another officer, Ruzek he’d told you.
“I think we’ve got everything we need,” Ruzek said, patting your brother on the shoulder, “you did I good thing today my friend.”
“No one’s going to know it was me, right?” He asked, turning to Jay as he did.
“We’ll do everything we can to keep you safe,” he promised, glancing at you as he did too. You stood up and grabbed your things, shaking Ruzek’s hand and thanking him quickly as he headed back out the room.
“Bye detective, promise I’ll give the pizza another go,” you said.
“I’m going to hold you to that,” he laughed, shaking your hand and walking you both out the door. You were down the bottom of the steps and into the cool Chicago air when you glanced back at Jay, was it your imagination, or was he looking at you too?
-
“Look, I told you, it’s just a quick ID down at the district, they won’t even know who did the IDing,” Henry explained as you both got into the car. “I’ll drop you off at Med for your appointment on the way, you good getting the bus home while I do some apartment hunting? I have a viewing lined up pretty near the police station actually.”
You nodded, “Jay call you?”
“If by Jay you mean the not at all good looking detective Halstead, then yes,” Henry teased and you shoved him a little as he tried to buckle his seat belt.
“He told me to call him Jay,” you argued unconvincingly.
“I’m sure he did,” he said, pulling off down the street, “hey, I’m just surprised a woman in your... condition has time for any game that’s all.”
“Oi, I’m pregnant not blind, it’s not like I made a move on the guy... but I’m allowed to look you know,” you both laughed as you headed into the city, the conversation moving on to apartment hunting and the new nursery, detective Halstead still a little on your mind.
It wasn’t long before you were being dropped off, waving to Henry as he drove away.
-
The next few weeks continued in a pretty similar manner, the Intelligence Unit was building a pretty substantial case against this gang, it turned out, and your brother regularly went to talk to various cops and lawyers. He assured me everything was okay, and so did Jay when you saw him, which was actually fairly frequently when you went to pick up your brother after one of their meetings. Often you went early with Henry and chatted with Jay or another member of the unit, and life went on. You and Jay had actually started to text a bit, not that you’d ever tell Henry, in a friendly way obviously, he was helping you settle into Chicago life, recommending places to visit and eat... you had no delusions a guy like that would fall from some pregnant chick, but it was nice to have a friend to talk to.
You hadn’t really talked much since the trial, they’d managed to flip some guy Henry had said, so he’d been able to avoid testifying in open court. Your conversations with Jay seemed to come to an end soon after that and while you were a little disappointed, you were too busy moving into your new apartment to mind too much, glad that this case was in the rearview and you could focus on your baby.
You were pushing 7 months when you went for your next check up at Med, the thought of already coming up to your third trimester was a daunting one, but you couldn’t wait to finally meet your baby. As you finished up with your doctor you headed out into the hall, too busy rooting around for your phone in your bag to stop yourself before you collided into a figure appearing around the corner in front of you. With a crash your bag went flying, spilling out the contents onto the floor.
“Sorry,” you looked from your belongings on the floor to the owner of the familiar voice, detective Halstead. “Oh, hi Y/N,” he offered an apologetic smile as he bent to pick your stuff up.
“Jay, hi, sorry I didn’t see you there” you said, “I really would pick that up myself but then someone would have to pick me up,” he laughed and handed you back your bag as he rose.
“No worries, getting pretty far along now huh, how’ve you been, how’s Henry?” He asked.
“Henry’s good, we’re good, two months to go now,” you told him as you both began walking to the exit, “just glad to go back to some kind of normal with the trial being over, how about you? What brings you to Med on a Saturday?”
“Visiting my brother about a patient, he’s a doctor here,” Jay explained, waving by to a red haired doctor across the room you assumed was the brother in question. Although you kicked yourself for it you couldn’t help but notice that the Halstead’s seemed to have good genes. “Oh hey sorry for not talking to you for a while by the way, I figured with the trial over you’d be too busy with the baby and Henry and I didn’t want to bother you,” he said.
“Oh yeah, no I get it, I guess we both got pretty busy,” you replied.
“Hey, did you ever try the pizza at Bartoli’s?” He asked and you shook your head.
“Never got around to it actually,” you said and he grinned.
“You hungry? It’s not too far from here, I could buy you lunch, least I can do after all the help you and your brother were,” he offered. Was... was he asking you out? You, the heavily pregnant chick? Not that you were complaining, you’d liked Jay a little since you met him, you were just surprised he might have felt the same way.
“You know what? Sure, I am pretty hungry, just let me confirm my next visit at the desk and we can head out,” you answered and he looked relieved. You headed over to the desk with a smile on your face, Henry was never going to let you hear the end of this.
A nurse approached Jay as you headed away, you think she told you her name was Maggie earlier. As you stood at the desk you noticed her roll her eyes at Jay and shake her head. “First Will and Natalie now you and this girl? What is it about Halstead’s and pregnant women?”
