An ‘Isola News’ post regarding these events will be made soon. Until then I hope that this is an enjoyable read to anyone who decides to go through the whole damn thing. It’s a bit of a mess but I’m still proud of finally getting this out there. That being said; please welcome one and all to the start of an incredibly long and incredibly exciting tour de force of all manners of criminal activities and gang shit.

With the Purgatory Casino having now opened and other business ventures owned by the Saints doing financially well, the Boss was rather content in the gradual progression of the gang’s influence across the city. It wasn’t anything too spectacular just yet, especially compared to how everything came together back in his universe, but he couldn’t complain. Slowly but surely the Saints will become a dominating force throughout Spirale, and whether people liked it or not they would be here to stay.

Now as he tends to do when there wasn’t much work to take care of, the Boss had decided to take one of his usual strolls throughout the city and see if anything of interest would catch his eye. He had found himself wandering into the Fibonacci Ward, which felt a bit too appropriate given the sort of trouble he’d been causing here over the last few months. Surprisingly enough criminal activities weren’t on the mind as he wandered through the ward’s streets. Instead he began to think about the possibility of opening another store here. It seemed like a good idea as it would give the people here a means to purchase fine clothing without having to travel all the way to the Cotes Ward.

Having this in mind he decides to send a message to his second-in-command, one Roman Torchwick, to let him know of the idea in question. Now Roman wasn’t necessarily directly involved with the matters of GANG☆STAR, but the business was still a means for the Saints to collect more income in order to finance all their various misdeeds. So naturally his input on the idea would be greatly appreciated. If it meant a greater revenue for the gang then surely it was a marvelous idea.

Over the next few minutes the two of them would continue their conversation through text messages. An unfortunate distraction as the Boss would fail to realize, at least until the very last minute, that he had several sets of eyes on him. It was a small group of about seven or so men, all in civilian clothing in order to blend in with the rest of the crowd. They had been watching him for some time now; practically as soon as he first set foot within the ward today. As the group pushed their way through the crowd and came closer and closer upon the man, the Boss finally took notice of them. And with a quick message towards Roman that he was being pursued, he placed his phone back into his pocket and quickly picked up the pace before these bastards could get to him.

Not wanting to lose sight of their target, one of the men in the group begins firing at the Boss. He’s far too focused on the task at hand to care about any poor civilian who might be struck by a bullet. Immediately mass panic begins to set in and people all throughout the streets rush to the safety of any location or barrier they could find before they too are caught up in the crossfire. Using the scattered civilians to his advantage, the Boss lets himself get lost in the crowd before finding himself heading straight into a back alley where he can possibly find himself a brief moment to process what exactly is going on.

‘ Shit. Guess those assholes are with Alfonso’s higher ups. ’ He thinks to himself. There’s no way in hell he’s going to deal with these bastards out in public without some sort of disguise, lest the people of this city discover who he truly is. Thankfully the man had made it a conscious decision to carry the mask he had designed for him by Shiro Iori on his person at all times now. However, he’d need to find a better spot to put it on as he can already hear these assholes yelling out for him. “ Where the fuck did he go?!?! ” “ I think he might’ve ducked this way, I see some blood! ”

It’s that last comment that makes the Boss realize that he had indeed been shot at. Thankfully the wound isn’t anything he hasn’t dealt with before—it had entered and exited the left side of his torso—but he’d have to cover it up soon else he’d wind up bleeding out. And if he’s to take on these motherfuckers personally then the last thing he needs is to spill his own blood in the process.

As he continues to make his way through the various alleys the Boss comes across what looks to be a building up for lease. A perfect place to hopefully buy him some time. Using his monster strength on the door in front of him he begins to rush through the building, climbing up a set of stairs that takes him towards what he assumes to be a former office area. Once he feels as if he’s gotten enough distance from the group following him, he proceeds to quickly check his wound before tying his suit jacket around his body to stop the blood flow. From there he checks the ammunition on the pistol he had begun to carry for situations such as this. “ All loaded up and ready to go. ” he says to himself, placing the mask onto his face as he gets himself into position.

“ This way! I think he went in that building! ” shouts one of the men from outside. “ Oh how fun, the cavalry’s here. ” A downright ironic thing to say as the group of men had in fact called more reinforcements. They really weren’t fucking around this time as the reports they had gotten from the casino massacre months prior and the takeover itself made them incredibly cautious. A dozen or so men stood outside the building while the previous group of seven made their way inside, soon climbing up the stairs into the office area.

The room itself was rather dark as the only source of light coming through was from a set of windows towards where the front of the building would be. Slowly the men made their way through the empty cubicles, peeking over walls and around corners. Keeping themselves quiet as they wanted to get the jump on him. Even their breathing was far more quiet than normal. They could not let him escape. They could not let him continue his actions throughout the city. To them the casino takeover was only a taste of what the man and his crew were capable of doing.

A sense of doubt soon overcame the men as they began to question themselves as to whether or not the Boss was actually still in the building. This was then followed up by two shots, the sounds of which rang out throughout the room, alerting the men to their target’s presence. And before a single one of them could even react towards what had just occurred, they had suddenly realized that their group of seven had now dwindled down to five.

And with that all hell broke loose.

None of the mobsters standing outside of the building had any semblance of an ideas as to what may be going on. Either their comrades had managed to get the upper hand on the Boss or that bastard was slaughtering them all. Gunfire is all they heard for a bit two or so minutes before complete and utter silence. They all stood their momentarily, wondering if any of them should enter the building and see just what the hell happened. Yet before any of them could make a single decision they’re quickly made aware of the fact that one of their own had been tossed out the window, his body landing right before all of them. Poor man looked like a mess—his body riddled with bullets from what looked to be one of the assault rifles they were carrying.

Following this the Boss soon appears, leaping forth from the window and using the man’s body to break his fall. “ Wow, did all of you boys really come out here for little ol’ me? I’m touched! ” he yells out before quickly gunning down a few of these jobbers, soon making his way towards cover. And boy oh boy did they really send out quite the number of people for him. Normally he’d stick around and see just how many he could murder in broad daylight, but with the unfortunate wound he’s been given plus the fact that the cops could arrive at any second he didn’t wish to fuck himself over. After popping off a couple of more rounds the Boss makes a quick beeline over to some more cover before finding the opportunity to really start booking it.

Making his way through one of the many different tunnels connecting the various buildings of Fibonacci, the Boss pushes his way through the numerous crowds of people as his pursuers continue to follow him along. Many attempts are made at knocking him down via shots to his limbs, but fortunately enough these idiots can’t aim for shit. He soon finds himself in another populated area, one with a whole slew of shops, restaurants and other public services. Eyeing the wall to one of the many shops littered about, the Boss makes his way over to it to use as cover and begins to fire away at the chucklefucks still on his ass.

“ YOU BOYS GONNA TELL ME WHO YOU’RE WORKING FOR? I’D LOOOVE TO KNOW WHO DECIDED TO ARRANGE THIS LITTLE GET-TOGETHER. ” He shouts out, voice disguised as so no one could recognize him. From the look of things these idiots have an impressive set of tools at their disposal; pistols, SMG’s, rifles, you name it. Whoever they work for must be the real deal if they’re able to provide their boys with this kind of hardware. As he continues firing away at his enemies the Boss recalls what Alfonso had told him and Roman previously when taking over the casino.

He had alluded to his superiors having eyes and ears everywhere, not to mention that going up against them was to basically ask for a death wish. ‘Criminal Illuminati?’ he wondered to himself. ‘ Hmm. Sounds like it’d be fun. Maybe I could ask Roman to ask Neo if she could do some digging. ’ Immediately his train of thought is derailed once he feels a bullet fly right past his head. Seemed like a good sign to keep moving on. As he continued his trek towards practically anywhere the property damage caused by both him and the other mobsters steadily grew more and more. Windows broken, vehicles damaged, merchandise destroyed. It was an absolutely chaotic nightmare, made more ridiculous by the fact they were all on the higher end floors of Downtown. Oh man were the numbers going to be in the thousands.

Eventually the Boss finds his salvation in the form of elevator, one that should theoretically take him to an area with a shuttle train. If he can get to it fast enough there was a chance he could shake off these assholes and properly take care of his wound. However, during this moment of realization a few of the mobsters happened to catch up to him. Unfortunately there was no clear form of cover he could take so he opts for his tried and true plan B; bum rushing them!

Now the sight of a 6′5″ man rushing towards you as he fires off his assault rifle is quite the terrifying sight. Made more so by the fact that he’s wearing a rather creepy oni mask that looks like it’s just smiling all the damn time. You could only imagine what these poor bastards must be thinking as the Boss rushes towards them, having only heard stories about the kind of damage he caused the last two times at the casino. Immediately the Boss shoves the barrel of his rifle into the chest of one of the men and begins firing away. This idiot is then left to lie on the floor in a pool of his own blood, desperately trying to comprehend what just happened to him as he withers away and dies.

Soon the other three try their hardest to back and make some space between themselves and the Boss. Unfortunately he’s already starting to beat them senseless with the stock of his rifle. And while a few good blows are given back to the man, the Boss is far too efficient and pissed off to let these punks get the best of him. In a fit of rage he pulls out his bowie knife and begins to continuously stab one of the men in the throat before tossing him aside. Seeing a chance to gather more ammo he takes what’s left from the bodies scattered around him before continuing into the elevator as he hears more men approaching.

The elevator ride is a much appreciated moment of calm, one in which he could use to contact Roman and inform him that he’s doing alright. However, it doesn’t take long before the elevator reaches its destination and he can a shuttle platform straight ahead. As he makes his way over he pays no attention to the number of civilians staring at the sight of this large man with an oni mask and blood stained clothes carrying around a rifle. Some begin to question calling the authorities while others try their hardest to pay no mind. This is all soon interrupted by the arrival of those relentless dipshits; one of them yelling out “ YO, ASSHOLE! STAY WHERE YOU ARE! ” before they all begin to rush towards him.

‘ For fucks sake, I don’t have time for you guys. ’ the Boss thinks to himself. At this point he can’t let stick around for much longer. Deciding to outright ignore the men after him, he makes a mad dash towards the shuttle’s platform. Closer and closer he makes his over till he sadly realizes that train is about to depart. So with no other options and a strong idea to get the fuck outta here, he decides to jump on to the train itself and hold on for dear life.

“ SHIT! HE’S GETTING AWAY! ” screams another of the mobsters as they all soon take turns firing at the Boss who in turn flips all of them off. This joy is however short-lived as he remembers that this shuttle was probably going to wind up at another part of the ward. He suspects that no matter where he goes right now he’s bound to run into more of these assholes. Seemed like another stupid idea was in order. Thankfully the sight of one of the many highways that connected Fibonacci to the rest of the city gave him a pretty good one. He was more than positive that what he was about to do would wind up causing him some serious injury, or at the very least leave him quite sore for a few good days. So with really no other options he decides to jump off the shuttle and try to, hopefully, land on a car to break his fall—all to the shock of the many passengers aboard the train of course.

And predictably he winds up slamming down on some poor schmuck’s car. However, the impact winds up tossing him onto another vehicle, which is really all-too familiar of the many instances of Insurance Fraud he’s committed. Thankfully it’s the bed of a truck and from what he can tell the driver is heading right into the Archimedes Ward. The driver, having noticed the Boss land in his vehicle, makes an attempt to pull over to get him out. Though a quick brandishing of his pistol and a surprisingly nonchalant threat makes the man reconsider.

Eventually the two arrive in the ward and the Boss quickly hops out. Despite how downright sore he’s feeling, not to mention the still active bullet wound, he begins to rush deep inside the ward to gain more ground between him and any potential threat that may come his way. He hopes they have no one looking for him right now, or at the very least that they gave up on their search. Faster and faster he keeps on running, ignoring his exhaustion plus any and all pain that seems to violently surge throughout his body. None of that matters right now. Needs to focus on surviving. Needs to focus on making it out alive. Before you know it he finds himself off in some corner of the ward with seemingly no one around.

Maybe it’d be wise to take a breather. Just a few minutes. Nothing more and nothing less. He slowly trudges his way towards a wall before finally slumping down and letting himself catch his breath. Something about how he currently feels doesn’t sit right with him. Was he still tired from that fantasy war that was days prior? Perhaps. Would have to train his body more. Can’t let himself get this tired so easily. But this will be something to think about later. Right now all he wishes to do is rest.

Looks like things were about to start picking up around Spirale. About damn time the show finally started.

Loyalty Chapter 8: The Good Bye

Zed Pov

In the last few weeks, Zed took a detailed look at the league system. It was really what Shen had described. He did not like the idea that he had to confine himself to 4 attacks. The actual damage is scaled by the league. He would be weaker in principle than in real life. That pissed him off a bit, but what applies for him was also the same for Shen and his friends. The system tries to create fair conditions for all. Should be right with him. He would still take them all down. In that sense, his summoner had something on it.

Zed had not only focused on the league but also increased his private hours with Kayn. The boy's words hurt him a lot, but in the end, he was right. His desire to kill Shen was greater than giving up money and staying with his disciples. It was not right for him to let Kayn down. That's why he also tried to devote every free minute to him. He gave so much for him that the topic 'league' did not stand between them. They made good use of their time, so Kayn was able to develop his own strong 'Umbral Trespass' technique. He jumped into the body of another and injured him from the inside out. Zed used to pretend to be a training partner, but only on the condition that he let the part hurting him. There were other victims for that.

Over time, Kayn was 15 years old and a bit bigger. He certainly trusted him to be able to lead the Order, but he did not want to untangle that burden all by himself. He also lacked the certain maturity and the leadership qualities. A few of his other men would be far more suitable for this job. But how was he supposed to let Kayn know he was not mature enough? His arrogance exceeded a new level each time. Criticism just bounced off him like a sign. Insight was a foreign word for him. That could still be cheerful.

At dinner, Zed finally decided to tell his men about joining the league. That would be the final blow in Kayn's face. He hated himself for hurting the boy, but he knew it was best for everyone involved. As usual, everyone sat in their seats and waited for Zed's release. But this time he would give a speech before. When everyone had something under their nose, Zed stood up and asked for attention. "I'm sorry, but the food has to wait. I want to announce something important to you. Minutes passed in which Kayn just held his master around his waist and buried his face in his chest. In the long run, it was a bit uncomfortable for the older one, because his whole order was gathered around him. But pushing him away was not possible either. Everyone knew that they had a special relationship with each other, but how far they went was supposed to be hidden. "Kayn ... do you want to let go?" "One more minute please, Master." Zed sighed but let it go.

As promised, Kayn let go after another minute. "Thanks, master. Please take care of yourself and please make us proud. Everyone in this world should be frightened by the name 'Order of Shadow'." It’s a while now that I wonder how we really met, how we end up together and how are we still staying together against all the odds.. obstacles.. kilometres. I end up realising that there is one main driver to start a love story: causality. If we think as causality as simple linear mechanics.. well.. you were flatmate with an old acquaintance of mine, alias Daniel. Than, we can think of causality as weakly related statistics.. so.. basically the possibilities that we liked each other..and the possibilities of us seeing each other enough times to have sex (holy shit it took a damn year). At this stage, please bear with me, we are at the beginning of what I would call a honeymoon phase. In order to translate all of this universal mix of casualties there is the need to understand the unspoken reality of complexity. In other words.. you can have an almost infinite number of compatible beings on this planet to have sex with, live a life and give birth to something which will ensure the human specie survival. Nevertheless, it is in the complexity of multiple interaction of this casualties that a rare real love as ours (I like to think so) is hidden. I think we finished the honeymoon phase quite a while ago and our complexity is staying strong after an enormous number of casualties working against it.. to name few: we live in different cities, we speak different languages, we are both young and full of casual opportunities in all directions. I’m not sure I managed to explain well what I have in mind but it is simply that: I love you. And when I say so behind this tiny words there is a world of complex feelings always interacting with them selfs. We don’t play by the rules of causality, we chose each other because we like the reality we create together no matter the surrounding environment. Also, though this *sounds* like a bad thing if you’ve been following along way too closely to my Planet of Butt jokes: “Mars will still be at sharp angles to Uranus,” it actually means you’ll be…let’s call it aggressively encouraged by the planets to act on something that’s been bugging you. It will be cathartic, and though I don’t see how these things are connected, Susan also said, “A business partner, expert you hire or your spouse (any person you collaborate with one-on-one) can now be the source of remarkable inspiration and transformation for you.”

Okay Libra! So the end of July wasn’t THE MOST fun you’ve ever had emotionally. Fuck the end of that month! Let’s focus on early August, after the few days (namely, the first) that were still affected by the lunar eclipse.

I’m more excited to talk about the solar eclipse of August 11th instead. Way more fun and friendly. For example, Susan said that the “solar eclipse of August 11 will be supportive of you and open opportunities to make new friends.” See?!

Hi bowl of Scorpi-o’s! Cool if I eat you with almond milk, or will you sting the crap out of my mouth if I don’t use cow milk? I’m not really supposed to drink milk (ironic or not given that I’m a Taurus?) but if you say so, then okay!

Important, straightforward and straight-from-the-mouth-of-Susan words first: “We are in eclipse season and two of the three are cutting across your tenth house of career and fourth house of home, suggesting changes are bubbling up in both areas.”

Okay next: On August 11th, thanks to the solar eclipse, you’re due for some sort of massive career/finance boost — but Mercury is in retrograde, so no signing new contracts until it’s over at the end of August, okay? If I can be honest with you, when it comes to horoscopes, I’m not always what you might call a believer. I have fun with it, sure, and I blame the arrangement of the planets for a lot, but it’s always with a bit of a wink. I can’t really recall what she said about romance or friendship, but given what she said about every other sign, the planets, though sleepy, are super, super primed to make the end of August feel like one giant slice of delicious, satisfying, happy-ass watermelon. Let’s dive right into August 11th since you’ve made it this far, shall we? If you’ve been worried about money, thanks to the eclipse on this date, you no longer will be! So you’ve been spending a lot — who hasn’t? That’s okay! Summer’s always a little expensive. (You’re investing in memories!) You’re about to plant some sort of golden bean into a very fertile ground, if I am reading this horoscope correctly.

The 26th will be a really lucky day. The planets are doing all sorts of things that make this an ideal time to kinda do whatever you want if you need heart-stoppingly-wonderful results.

Work-wise, there may be delays, but it’s just because Mars has been retrograde since the 26th, so once that’s over on August 27th, you’ll begin to feel things spin back into action. You’ll really get going by September and/or October, so trick or treat, smell my feet, give me my SPF30 please because right now it’s summer and I don’t know about you but the sun outside is calling to me way more loudly than my laptop. But back to you: You’re working hard and around this time, finally, PEOPLE WILL NOTICE.

Out in Front and Ahead of the Game: RE/MAX Fine Properties

Raising the Bar on Real Estate Success

When brothers Nimesh and Minesh Patel decided to go into business together, they leveraged their rich backgrounds in technology, finance and real estate to take over Sugar Land, Texas-based RE/MAX Fine Properties in 2009. Since then, the firm has consistently improved upon its numbers year-over-year, with remarkable accomplishments in agent productivity. The secret to the Patel brothers’ success? A hands-on, business-focused, supportive relationship with each of the firm’s 180-plus agents. Read more about the pair’s mindset for success in this exclusive interview.

Maria Patterson: Please briefly describe your career path and how you came to lead RE/MAX Fine Properties. Nimesh Patel: Before real estate, I was in IT and moved out to San Francisco to work with some big firms in the area. Dot coms were doing really well in the late ’90s and early 2000s, but I was missing my friends and family, so I moved back to Texas. I got my real estate license in 2002 so that I could create some investments for my future. I ended up being fairly good at it and joined RE/MAX Fine Properties. There are still people here now that taught me real estate back then.

Minesh Patel: We were both born in London and raised here in Sugar Land. I went to college in Houston, and in 1999 moved to California to join my brother in searching for a career opportunity after graduation. I majored in business and finance and landed a great job with Barclays Global Investors on the hedge fund side. I came back in 2007 to be with my family, but stayed in my industry and signed on with another hedge fund. Then in 2007 and 2008, the world collapsed. I was laid off and the industry went down the drain for the next several years. Opening my own business was always a lifelong dream of mine, so I decided to partner with my brother. By January 2009, we bought RE/MAX Fine Properties.

MP: That must have been an interesting time to get into real estate! Minesh Patel: There were a lot of concerns. We were buying into an industry that was collapsing and hemorrhaging rapidly. No one wanted to buy a house. Everyone was scared. Real estate had come to a grinding halt and the subprime market collapsed. Agents were leaving the industry in a mass exodus. The positives were we were coming into a business that was distressed. We were buying in a down market as opposed to an up market, so it was easy for us to negotiate a lot of important variables.

Nimesh Patel: We knew that if we got into the business at a discounted price, and put our energy and effort into it, we could build it up and stay on the positive side of things right off the bat. I liked the fact that this was going to be challenging, but if we worked hard, there was a lot of potential.

MP: How many offices and agents does the firm currently have? Nimesh Patel: We have one office and 185 agents. For two years in a row, we’ve been the largest single office RE/MAX in the country. Our parents are involved here, too. Our dad is our accountant, and when I got my license back in 2002, my mom also got hers. And to this day, she is still active.

Minesh Patel: We’re No. 1 in the country and No. 5 in the world in terms of agent count for a single office. In addition, we’re in the middle of expanding via a satellite branch. One of our fastest-growing teams wanted the opportunity to open their own office in Katy, so we’re currently helping them build out another office, which will open very soon.

MP: How does being affiliated with RE/MAX help support your success? Nimesh Patel: RE/MAX has always been known as the home of top producers who have been in the business for a while. We like that aspect of the brand. We’re not going to teach people how to sell real estate; we’re going to teach people how to be long-term business owners. If you’re an agent who made $100,000 but netted only $30,000, that’s not good. Because of my brother’s background in finance, we’re going to say, “Let’s go over your P&L and see how we can make you more profitable.” We’re changing the language of how we talk to agents and treating them as mini businesses under us. As RE/MAX, we’re going to attract solid producers, but many need help on the business side of things to get to another level.

Minesh Patel: When we decided to get into business together, we looked at 15 or 20 businesses that year, and all kinds of franchises, from Subway to car washes to daycares. RE/MAX was the No. 1 global leader in real estate in terms of transactions and sales, but also carried global brand recognition. It’s ranked with the likes of Coca-Cola, GE and Microsoft.

MP: Why have you chosen to stick with one main location? Nimesh Patel: A big part of our culture is that Minesh and I are always here. We found it difficult to see how we would run other offices as successfully if he and I were absent. We didn’t want to have a landlord/tenant relationship with our agents. We’re here; we’re your family. If we start spreading ourselves too thin with other offices, it’s not going to work. There’s no magic pill—you have to be there.

MP: How would you describe your firm’s positioning in the marketplace? Nimesh Patel: Last year, we did $770 million in sales volume with 180 agents. The second closest real estate firm in the area has 380 agents and did $650 million. We’re more productive per agent than any of our competitors. Our agents are breaking records in every single category—from listings to buyers to new construction, our firm dominates. Our agents keep increasing our numbers month-over-month and year-over-year. We have a family atmosphere—a serious family atmosphere—with competition and cooperation. We believe that you’re the average of the people you surround yourself with.

MP: What is your approach to recruiting? How do you ensure you’re bringing in and keeping such productive agents? Minesh Patel: Most brokerages out there take anyone who has a license—they recruit constantly. Our approach is unorthodox. We have minimum standards in place to be hired and we go after seasoned agents. We want six-figure producers who are serious about a long-term career in real estate. And we recognized early in the game that it’s about retention first—training and educating and making the agents we have more productive. That, in turn, leads to our agents doing the recruiting for us. We don’t make recruiting calls, and on average we turn down 10 – 15 agents per month. People see how we’re doing things differently and they want to be part of a place like this.

Nimesh Patel: We’re also an open book. For example, we wanted a really big producer in the area to come join us, but we didn’t like his overall demeanor after several interviews. He wanted a “deal” to come over to our firm, and we don’t play that game. We treat everyone the same. The firm found out we turned him down and it ended up being the most positive thing we’d done in a long time. It gave our agents a tremendous sense of pride to know we won’t compromise our standards.

Minesh Patel: Our hierarchy is very flat. Most brokerages only cater to top producers and forget everyone else. Our top producers are as important as our up-and-coming producers. We like to treat everyone fairly because you never know when the next superhero or rock star is going to emerge. We see it every year—unexpected, break-out agents who take over a No. 1 spot at our firm.

Nimesh Patel: From our staff perspective, we rarely have turnover. We promote from within. Our most senior manager started out as a weekend receptionist. We’re all about recognizing employees with opportunities they wouldn’t have elsewhere. They’re integral to our success.

MP: How do you involve your agents in the company’s growth? Nimesh Patel: We’re very analytical and use a lot of bar graphs and charts. We like to make sure our agents know what’s going on. They’re a part of this growth and it’s important for them to see where we’ve been and how far we’ve come.

MP: What is your approach to coaching and training? Nimesh Patel: We teach our own classes—only one per month and only when we really see the value in it. People understand that and it’s why they come to the classes when we have them. It’s my brother and I providing a market snapshot, educating agents, and hopefully teaching them something they didn’t know before.

Minesh Patel: We were one of the first RE/MAX owners to use Momentum training, which was developed by David Scott. We also use Brian Buffini and will quickly adopt any other coaching and mentorships we think add value.

MP: What’s your strategy for effectively marketing the firm? Nimesh Patel: We’re big on social media. My brother and I actually run our own Facebook page. We market the success of our agents and firm constantly.

Minesh Patel: With Nimesh’s background in technology, and also being some of the youngest owners at every RE/MAX convention, we’ve been in touch with millennials, and, therefore, were quick adopters of Facebook and other social media outlets that had the largest worldwide traffic possible. We like to let clients know that since we’ve taken over, the firm has had its best year, every year, nine years running. We were one of the few firms growing in the worst recession real estate had ever seen. While most firms were struggling until the market started recovering at the end of 2012, our sides were doubling every year.

MP: How do you stay ahead of the curve on technology? Nimesh Patel: We don’t adopt every single piece of technology that comes out. I’ll be the guinea pig for every new piece of technology we consider, taking the time to learn it and teach it. And Minesh will go to a company and leverage our numbers to get great pricing for our office.

MP: It also sounds like you’re often the guinea pig for systems adopted by RE/MAX corporate. Minesh Patel: Yes. For example, BackAgent (online transaction management software) is one of the most widely used systems among brokerages today, but Nimesh was one of the first agents to use it. We found the developer who created it for a local company here and we asked if he could create a custom version for us. After our success, RE/MAX corporate picked it up and promoted it.

Nimesh Patel: We have a great relationship with RE/MAX and we want to be the first ones to do everything. We want to see RE/MAX do well as a whole. When we first got into the business, people reached out to us, so we’ve always had a pay-it-forward mentality when it comes to helping new owners launch their brokerages.

MP: You recently suffered through Hurricane Harvey and its aftermath. How did the company fare? Nimesh Patel: We turned our 3,000-plus square-foot training facility into a distribution center for building large totes filled with food, masks, gloves, bleach, box cutters, water, toiletries, Clorox wipes, towels and anything and everything we could find. Partnering with Operation: Rebuild TX and The Church TX, we were able to make over 1,450 huge bins and distribute them all throughout the Fort Bend County area to many of the affected families. We had eight of our own team members severely affected, yet our whole firm, community, business leaders, friends and family came together to assist in rebuilding. As for future business, we’re very confident in our agents and our community; we’ll be on our feet and on top very soon.

MP: So where does the company go from here? Nimesh Patel: We want to make sure we don’t remain stagnant and stale and lose marketshare and agents. Someday, someone is going to come along and do what we did. The challenge is, how do we stay out in front of changes and technology? It’s our job to be knowledgeable about everything, so when we hear something about Zillow or Redfin or Amazon, we’re not going to dismiss it. As long as we know what’s happening and coming, we can prepare.

Minesh Patel: Information is the most powerful commodity in the world. We have our ear to the ground on what’s happening so that we can be prepared and act on the information quickly.
