#ace characters in fannon

I could have sworn I had a proper ask for this, but Tumblr seems to have eaten it. Anyway I'll do my best to give which ones I have and explain my reasoning. I will continue referring to Yutu as Yutu in my writing so if you don't like these names there is no need to stick to them.

Heartslabyul

Riddle! Yutu's real name is March. This is a reference both to the march hare in Alice in Wonderland and the phrase "in like a lion out like a lamb" as it reminds me of Riddle's temper.

Trey! Yutu is a triplet, and I wanted to give them baking themed names? Yutu's real name is Bran, Yutres's is Clementine, and Yushi's is Hazel. I like to think Clementine goes by Clem and has that stereotypical hatred of her full name because it means she's in trouble.

Cater! Yutu... was really hard to come up with a good name for. I kind of like Rain though? It's *unique* but it's very pretty and I could see Cater wanting a name that was a bit more hippy and alt than normal.

Ace! Yutu had Elias submitted as his real name by a requestor and I don't hate it? It's a pretty normal name and does sound like something he'd come up with thinking it would remind Yuu of their world. The other name I would offer is Jack, because well. Jack of Hearts, but that might end up being Ace's brother's name and I cannot see him naming his son after his brother or that other Jack we know...

Similarly Deuce! Yutu had the name Johan submitted in the same ask and it actually has a very similar meaning to Elias (god is gracious v lord is my god) and again. I could see Deuce wanting to honor a name from Yuu's world with their first kid. The other name I would offer is Damien, as his name is Deuce and his mother is named Dilla, so the D names seem to be a theme.

Savanaclaw

Leona! Yutu... I wrote down the name Kutaka for him. Scar has two possible real names listed on his wiki page and I became attached to the headcannon this reddit user put forward I found while researching them. The name Kutaka comes from the phrase "to want" and if he was born than Leona wanted him. Simple as that.

Forgive me but I wrote down Akiba for Ruggie! Yutu's real name. Supposedly it means "savings" in Swahili and as... unromantic and practical of a meaning that might be I could see Ruggie naming his kid that in the hopes of promoting fiscal responsibility in his future.

Jack! Yutu's real name is Ashe. It's a type of tree, and a type of grey. Jack's name is believed to be taken from the author of "Call of the Wild" but I didn't find any names there or in related works I liked. So woodsy name it was.

Octavinelle

Azul! Yutu's real name is Archimedes. I took it from a minor character in the Little Mermaid tv show who is Ariel's friend who is also obsessed with the human world, but I like the idea of him having the same name as an important historical figure in our world. Also Yuu could call him Archie and he could hate it.

Jade! Yutu's real name is Merrin. Fannon has Jade call Yuu his pearl a lot, and Merrin can mean pearl of the sea. I like the imagery of Jade naming his child after his precious partner.

Floyd! Yutu's real name is Jasper. It's an orange red stone, and shrimps are also orange red. The octotrio all have names related to color in some way, but Jade and Floyd can also be referencing gemstones so I like the idea that they'd reach for similar names for their own kids.

Scarabia

Kalim! Yutu's real name is Mazin. The name means "rain clouds" but those are a blessing in the desert. Not to mention that rain is what Oasis Maker does!

Jamil! Yutu's real name is Sohail. The name seems to mean "star" or "trouble free." Najma also can mean "star" and Jamil wants for a life that is trouble free. It feels like a name he'd like.

Pomefiore

Vil! Yutu's real name is Laurie for no other reason that his unique magic deals with painting and I like Little Women. Also it feels like a fun name and I can see Vil cooing over it.

Rook! Yutu's real name is Oliver. If he were to have a sibling their name would be Roland. This is not foreshadowing for his post.

Epel! Yutu's real name is Jyri. It means farming man and I wanted a cute sounding name.

Ignihyde

I had a real hard time deciding Yutu Shroud's name. I sort of like Orpheus if we're being honest here... sure that's the name of a tragic hero and not how Idia would want his relationship to go, but it's a pretty name.

Diasomnia

The Draconia's have a clear naming pattern so Malleus! Yutu's real name is Malleyu because of course Malleus wishes to name his son after his beloved spouse. In the bad timeline, as part of forgetting who Mal is, Yuu gives Yutu a different name. I had written down Cadmus, the name means "from the east" and references a man who turns into a snake.

Lilia does not have a clear idea where his name comes from and he named his first kid Silver; I think he'd defer to Yuu for names. What is the point of having a kid with a vampire fae general if you can't name him Alucard?

Silver! Yutu's real name is Lance 1) because it is a type of weapon so Silver will approve 2) as a shortened form of Lancelot, who was a knight raised by fairies.

Sebek! Yutu's name is malleus I sort of like the idea of Yuu insisting he be named Thor. It fits in just well enough with the Zigvolt naming structure (both Sebek and Baur seem to be named after gods) and Yuu gets to use something from their world.

I think we said this already but Rollo! Yutu's real name is Jehan, after his brother. Jehan is the name of Frollo's brother in the book version of Hunchback.

The Eternal Rose

Part; 1

It was just another day in the life of an overworked, underpaid, stressed out personal assistant (who was in fact; not paid, nor was she a personal assistant)

(Reader) was finishing up the final touches for the new NRC event, which happened to be an ‘all school inclusive’ festival. (Reader) volunteered to host this event single handed…..NOT! Of course Crowley put all of his duty’s and responsibilities on the poor first year (again) and she had no one else to help her, except for her boys, Ace, Deuce, and Grim. (well, Azul did offer, but of course it came with a cost, and the girl wasn’t stupid like her boys were)

After putting the finishing touches on the last game for the festival, people started pouring in to play games, eat food, and watch the performances by the light music club. (Reader) noticed a couple faces of people she knew, Che’nya, and Neige, they noticed her as well because the next thing she knew Che’nya suddenly appeared hugging her and laughing at her shocked expression. Neige quickly ran up to them and apologized for Che’nya’s behavior but she waved him off and told him that she was used to it.

Soon , Neige and Che’nya left to go find the other people in their group, promising to meet up with her and introduce her to their friends later. (Reader) met up with the first years and actually got to enjoy a school event without the worry of an overblot. Towards the end of the day, (Reader) ran into her friends from RSA and was promptly introduced to the rest of their group;

A boy with eyes as blue as the sea, and hair as red as the reddest coral named Rielle.

A boy with a British accent (somehow in tw) with blond hair and a gold pocket watch named *1. Alexavier.

A boy with blond hair, eyes that looked like the sky on a sunny day, and the kindest smile (Reader) had ever seen named *2. Cedric.

And lastly, a boy with hair like gold, eyes the color of fresh lavender who looked he was day dreaming as we speak named *3. Aurelius.

For some reason (Reader) felt a pull that she couldn’t explain to learn more about the day dreamer, if only she knew that what she would uncover would not only turn her life upside down, but the lives of many people in Twisted Wonderland…. Including a certain narcoleptic boy with eyes far too similar to the boy she just met.

Notes;

So since the characters usually used for RSA are fannon characters(aside from Che’nya and Neige), because as of right now there aren’t official names or designs (at least that I know of) I only used Rielle, because I couldn’t come up with anything for him, plus I like his character. As far as the other characters I wanted to make them my own, and did research to find names that I thought suited them, for the reasons listed below. (The following name are according to my research on baby name websites)

*1. Alexavier means “mischievous” and while Alice is certainly curious, she can be mischievous at times and I believe her twst version would definitely lean more towards mischievous personality wise.

*2. The name Cedric means “kind and loved” and I feel like that is exactly Cinderella is (well, kind and loving) and in her twst version (my version) those are his most prominent personality traits.

*3. I saw the name Aurelius when looking up a name for Alexavier and it means “curious” which I’d you look at Aurora, she is a rather curious character, and I want her twst version (mine anyway) to bring that out more in his personality. Also, I think it sounds cool for his character.

I’ve had the idea for this story for awhile now so it’s mostly planned all the way out, I just need to fill in the details.

F - What’s the longest you’ve ever been in a fandom?

I'm just realizing it's kind of tricky to define what exactly constitutes ‘being in a fandom’. Internet culture as we know it today was kind of forming as I was growing up, and that's where I primarily think of fandom culture, and fandom itself, as existing at all. 

That being said, probably Legend of Zelda. 

Honourable mention to Danny Phantom and H2O: Just Add Water. Those were the two shows I primarily browsed the fanfiction for when I discovered fanfiction existed. My main interest in fanfiction was identity/secret reveal fics. Also really liked looking up funny My Little Pony fan comics. I think of those as my sort of first foray into wider fandom cultures.

I - Has Tumblr caused you to stop liking any fandoms, if so, which and why?

I was disillusioned to fandom culture very early on, and had heard many of the horror stories of fandom toxicity long before I got Tumblr.

That being said, interacting with Danny Phantom fans on Tumblr really opened my eyes to how fandom tends to bubble itself.

I already knew about DP fans…eccentricities from my time fanfiction.net, but on ffn you can at least give writers the benefit of the doubt that their attitudes are just coming from their own personal tastes and experiences, since engagement is limited, but on Tumblr you see the fandoms collective thoughts and attitudes and how they engage with the media and each other more clearly. I figured because of that, there would be engagement with the show on a critical level, but outside of a few points, the fans pretty much never dug into the writing of the show unless is contributed to adding inane details to fan lore, or referencing fandom in-jokes that aren't very funny even if you do know the story behind them. 

There's not a lot of engagement on the level of fannon either, actually. It's mostly just adding lore bits and shallow jokes. The only time I ever saw anyone address any meta issues there was to say the tired old ‘we just need to be tolerant and all get along’ vague posting spiel. 

In short, Tumblr DP fandom taught me first hand that even in an environment that's more conducive to engagement, a lot of fans just won't, and that was extremely disappointing to realize.

Also Delicious in Dungeon. They seemed fine at first, but then I found out how incredibly dishonest the fandom was about the show, and that sowed a lot of resentment towards the fandom and the show itself. That's on me for forgetting anime fans are terrible, though. 

L - Say something genuinely nice about a character who isn’t one of your faves.

Non-puzzle spoiler for Ace Attorney 3, but the bit at the end of the flashback trial where after watching their client die in front of them, Godot turns to Mia and tells her that as a lawyer it's their duty to keep smiling and push through no matter what, all the while keeping a smile on his face, but grasping his ceramic mug so hard it shatters and cuts his hand…that smile still fixed on his face while blood runs down his clenched fist, and security is frantically trying to deal with the dead body just off screen…but Godot isn’t looking at his bleeding hand or the corpse at the witness stand…he’s only focused on what he's saying to the distraught Mia…insisting that they have to keep smiling despite everything…

That's metal as fuck. Godot was not a character who was handled well, but the coffee mug shattering is absolutely a top ten Ace Attorney moment in my book.

Also his coffee animations are genuinely funny.

M - Name a character that you’d like to have for a friend.

Ruby Gloom. I like how she always planning fun activities, she generally tries to be accommodating without being a total pushover, and is always working to make life more enjoyable for herself and everyone around her. She seems like a really positive person to have in your life.

Y - What are your secondhand fandoms (i.e., fandoms you aren’t in personally but are tangentially familiar with because your friends/people on your dash are in them)?

Miraculous Ladybug (my younger cousin was really into the show when it first came out, and there's one tumblr artist who makes great comics, but the glimpses I saw of the level of teasing in the show proper turns me right off. Conceptually though, Miraculous is my JAM, but I. Cannot. Stand. Excessive. Teasing. One of the rare instances of a show being enhanced by being experienced exclusively through fandom) 

Delicious in Dungeon (it's pretty hard to not absorb that show if you exist on Tumblr in any capacity)

Star Wars/Yu-gi-oh (I've seen a bit of both, but I've learned a lot from my brother who's watched much more than I)

Minecraft/Five Nights at Freddie's (3 of my 4 siblings, and also all nerds everywhere, love Minecraft, so you know. My sister was really into Fnaf when it first got big, and my little sister was just the right age to enjoy it when it had its resurgence)

Z - Just ramble about something fan-related, go go go! 

Putting this under a cut because it ended up being way longer than expected. Tell me to ramble at your own risk, apparently. No, I don't really know where I was going with what I was saying either:

I think sometimes we all gotta step back and remember this whole fandom thing is very silly. 

Don’t misunderstand me, I’m not saying fan creations are valueless or not worth taking seriously (I've dedicated many hours to fan creations myself), but to hear some people talk you’d think fandom was some kind of oppressed political group.

Guys…this is primarily a space where twelve year olds talk about their blorbos kissing, lighten up. Yes, there are a lot of real issues in fandom spaces that should be talked about, but sometimes it feels like the only one people want to talk about is an external issue that…doesn’t really exist. Big companies don’t really care what fandom does with their properties anymore. The reality is that there was a few weird instances about a decade ago, and some people can’t let go of that. One author said ‘don’t write fanfics about my books’, and fandom developed a persecution complex the size of Russia and cursed their name long after that author’s death. Because they were told not to write fanfics. About one book.

(Disclaimer: I know there was a bit more to the situation than that, but my point still stands)

And the worst part of making this fake issue such a big part of fandom identity is people weaponizing it to stop others from talking about real issues. “Hey, are we sure it’s okay there’s so much fanart depicting-” “Shh! Shh! Shh! We can’t criticise each other! We can’t let fandom space be divided! We can’t ever question anyone in fandom spaces or else we will fall apart and big company will win! Just ignore stuff you don’t like so that everyone can get along always!” I hate how adamant people are about cutting off this entire avenue of discussion point blank. Preserving the concept of fandom is more important than improving the culture of fandom.

And it's not just obtuse teenagers, it's fully grown adults. Like…a significant amount of money has changed hands based on these beliefs. I happened to be on ao3 when a fundraiser went live, and they more than doubled their goal in an hour. All because it's the website that ‘protects fan’s freedom of speech’. That's a lot of extra money being given to a site that runs on unpaid volunteers based on very shaky beliefs (and you can’t even permanently block tags or even ban people properly *ahem*), just because other websites don’t let you write about three specific authors or [redacted].

In short, ao3's basically a scam and if you ever catch me using the term ‘transformative works’ please shoot me. People are trying to sell you a sense of importance with language like that (literally in ao3's case).

That being said, there's something genuinely beautiful about fandom connections when they aren't glorified. I've made multiple friends who live in different countries from me just because we like the same lego show. That's actually ridiculous, but the connection is undeniably genuine and treasured, and it was founded on all of us sharing our weird hobbies.

Even on a smaller scale, there's something about hearing a person make a Nintendo or a superhero reference that can put me at ease a little. I've never been fond of how dismissive people can be of more mainstream media. Pop culture gives us fun little connections to make as a society, and that's great. It's cool when your 60 year old coworker says “my Spidey senses are tingling”, or that shy kid starts to open up to you because you know what Bluey is. 

Of course it's worth remembering that liking the same media (or having any common interest or hobby) is not enough. Liking the same show can bring people together, but it is the character of the individuals involved that determine whether that connection gets nourished or not. Relating back to my original point a little, we shouldn’t completely give credit to fandom. You didn’t have these positive experiences because fandom is a magical place where stuff like that just happens, you had them because you put in the work to build those positive experiences. It’s the same with any hobby. 

It’s like saying you made friends through knitting, it’s technically not 100% accurate. Afterall, not everyone who knits is friends with other knitters, even if they do know of other people who knit. The decision to make brownies every week for the knitters circle is an effort you have chosen to put in, and indicative of your character beyond the commonality of the hobby the group was founded on. So no, you didn’t just make friends through knitting, you made friends by being yourself.

(Yes, I do realize that I’m being kind of nit-picky here. Rest assured, I do not always go on this kind of a ramble when someone says they made friends though x, I’m just trying to illustrate a point about the powerful perspective we lose through glorification)

Maybe this is ridiculous notion or ‘gatekeeping’… but why can’t ace characters just, like, be ace? Like canonically ace characters (screaming between-the-lines info counts).

Why can’t they just exist in fannon as ace characters.

I get whole “heuheu I like this pairing and want them to fuck,” but how about we handle the whole ace spec part, yeah?

Ace characters deserve the same respect as het, homo and bi characters.

My feelings about season 2 of the Loki series are currently very similar to when I found out what else Steven Moffat and JK Rowling had presented to the public.

Ranting about the value of authorial intent, boycotting bigots, and asking the universe why a company like Disney lets people write about things they know nothing about under the cut.

I loved Doctor Who, and I enjoyed it enough to keep watching each episode as it came out through the end of of Matt Smith because the actors were clearly enjoying themselves and individual episodes were good, but the resolution of the story arcs was so bad after Tennant left and I knew that wasn't down to Smith's acting ability. Nice setup, bad play, over and over again. I expected a long con for River Song, but then after she was revealed to be a bespoke assasin designed to manipulate him on every level the Doctor just... boned her anyway? Despite being an ace romantic for the last 50 years? Explicitly so, what with how his people didn't reproduce sexually and that is a plot point even in the new series. That was hardly the only storyline with a very strange ending that left myself (and many other fans) dissatisfied.

I didn't get why the show made such a turn for the worse, and it was my complete disinterest in authorial intent, backstage drama, and entertainment news interviews kicking me in the ass. (As it occasionally does.) Moffat can do a lot of things, and his individual episodes are often fantastic, but bringing a season long story arc to a beautiful end is just not one of them. When I read what his intent was for these stories I just laughed. I didn't take away half the things he expected a casual fan to notice, let alone the deeper meanings that people like me who love to rewatch and theory craft supposedly should have seen. It all felt rushed and unfinished at best, a bit of deus ex machina at worst.

Nope, you failed the assignment. It's just more embarrassing because you are the one who defined the assignment in the first place. I hated the end of Sherlock too, (S4) and now I know that I'll probably love the setup and hate the resolution for anything Moffat makes because that is just how he makes things.

I think there is a lot of value in looking at what someone made without director commentary because bad things can be made with the best of intentions and good things can be made by very problematic people. I have no interest in entertaining JK Rowling's asinine declaration that Dumbledore and Lupin as written in the 7 HP books are good queer representation. The things she says and promotes about trans people are disgusting. However, that doesn't change what I experienced when I read the books or the community I found among fans at the time. It means I won't consume new things she makes and, to be fully honest, cemented my view that a film or book contains what it contains and should be criticized or praised separately from the people who made it. Pottermore became the worst bit of public self-pleasuring I've yet seen. All her cut and extra content for the world neither added much nor was a loss to the main story. She believes that while an individual can do great things, systemic change is always bad and honestly that both predates and supersedes her being a terf in my decision to avoid her other work.

This view was only maintained when my own fanfiction started getting nasty comments about how this or that fannon theory was bunkum when those fannon theories didn't appear in my story, they only existed in other stories with similar tags. This is how I consume media and how I evaluate narratives, and if that isn't for you then that's fine. It doesn't mean I ignore bigots or that I don't think anyone deserves to be judged when they show their ugly to the world.

So... the Loki series. Turns out a show with a main character who has been canonically queer for the last *checks Norse mythology* twelve centuries or so was made by bigots. Now I am a strong believer that if you do your research and are hard working you can write about anything and be respectful about it, but that's assuming you aren't deeply opposed to the core subject matter. There is nothing I have seen to show that Tom Hiddleston has this issue, but from the writers on down to the actress playing the main character (not Loki but Sylvie, who seems like his replacement as the "superior" version of the character according to the show) are either openly bigots or are blinded by their entitled ignorance of why Loki went off the rails in the first place.

What the actual Hela is this? Does Sylvie need to be played by a bi or genderqueer person for me to be happy? No. It would be nice and I think since *insert current year argument* we are where we are it is absolutely possible to have that kind of face- on- screen representation, but that isn't necessary if you have good actors willing to shoot the sorts of scenes that role requires.

The writers room is where the diversity needs to be, it has to be in the initial creation. On a project of this scale (meaning the MCU) all these scripts have teams and assistants and editors crawling over the story - you can claim one person wrote the thing and I'll just laugh in your face. A specific scene, maybe, but there is a committee involved in this and it isn't small. All the way down to the directors talking about the tone and the actors improvising lines they think work better, this is a group project.

I could name a hundred terrible books written by bigots about this or that minority that perpetuate a host of horrible stereotypes. I could show you the movies where some of that filth was scrubbed off the source material by less or non-bigoted script writers, directors, and cast. Thoughts on how it would effect cannon bits of Harry Potter if her was smarter? How would you change harry to make him a better character in canon? I always say I like Harry Potter the character but I've realized most things I like about him are fannon personalities and I dont care much for how jkr actually wrote him or how she wrote a lot of things actually lol but yea I just wanted to see your thoughts on making harry a better character and not a total asshole

There’s a lot of questions in here, so let me do my best to unpack them.

How Would Canon Change if Harry Was Smarter?

Depends on your point of view: not that much or quite a ton.

Remember for the most part all Harry really does is go to school. We read about his magical schoolkid adventures where he watches Hermione and Ron bicker over a cat, sneaks around the castle to spy on his nemesis Draco Malfoy, attends classes, etc. 

It’s just that every May he has a weird showdown with the enemy of the day a la Buffy the Vampire Slayer (May is apocalypse season in Hogsmeade.) 

Going to school though? That’s not going to change. In fact, a smarter Harry would probably make for a much more boring read for 90% of the Harry Potter novels. Harry’s smart enough to realize 12 year-old Draco isn’t the Heir of Slutherin? Well, I guess that takes out Hermione turning into a cat and Harry and Ron’s sneaking into Slytherin. Harry’s smart enough to figure out that Dumbledore’s smart enough to know whether or not Draco’s a Death Eater spy in The Halfblood Prince? Well, that takes out 90% of the book’s plot of Harry spying on Draco going “I KNOW YOU’RE EVIL!” Harry realizes that an adult is better prepared to protect the philosopher’s stone? There goes the first book.

It’d just be Harry acing his classes, maybe being slightly behind Hermione as she’s a workaholic perfectionist, woo hoo. 

The big difference I see is that Harry might actually come to grips with the fact that Dumbledore used and betrayed him. In the seventh book, he’s presented clear evidence through Snape’s memory that Dumbledore fully intended Harry’s death and prepared him for suicide at least from book six onward. Harry meets Dumbledore in purgatory and convinces himself that Dumbledore never really did this to him. Which is... well... Harry... Even Dumbledore the purgatory ghost/hallucination wasn’t really convincing. That said, I’m not sure that’s about intelligence or stupidity, more that Harry’s entire world had shattered and he just can’t deal.

Harry would rather live in blissful denial than ever come to terms with what Dumbledore did to him.

So with that I think the changes are in less random entertaining things would happen. Harry would instead, where possible, be a normal kid attending normal school and we’d wonder why the hell we’re reading this book.

How Would I Change Harry to Make Him a Better Character?

Better character how, and to what end?

There’s nothing inherently wrong with Harry’s character, he’s a basket case who’s dumb as bricks, but he is engaging. The trouble with Harry is that he doesn’t suit the story he’s in or the role he’s playing.

If Harry Potter were a dark satire, where the prophesied hero is a complete jerk who is convinced he saved the day when he never did, and the land festers like a disease never to be saved because the wizards themselves are part of the problem and can’t see it, then Harry is an excellent character and should not be changed in the slightest. The story should just change to acknowledge what Harry is: that douchebag we’ve decided should save us all.

If we’re going with what I think Harry Potter was supposed to be, a story about love and friendship, then Harry has to be a far more compassionate and noble character who even while enduring great hardship never loses the nobility inherent in his spirit. This has nothing to do with his intelligence, really, he can still be dumb as bricks here. This is the direction I would have gone, were I the one writing Harry Potter. 

I mean ultimately to change Harry Potter is to really change the entire story, especially if we’re adding something like intelligence.

JKR wanted Harry as a sort of everyman, this to be his great strength over Tom Riddle. Tom Riddle might be a great man, but he’s removed too far from humanity and mired in ambition, while Harry’s one of those Tolstoy peasants who reminds us all of the meaning of life. To make Harry on par intelligence wise with say, Tom Riddle, it takes out one of JKR’s main intentions for Harry as a character which isn’t really the point of this thought exercise.

I really hate that people think fanfic is automatically a lazier way of writing.

I’m not producing less Lone Star fic because I’m prioritizing Patreon. My highest tier Patreons are actually either Lone Star people or people who let me convert them to Lone Star. My full time job is one of the most difficult jobs right now. And I love it and I really want to do a good job because my position is temporary so I need these reccomendations. I just don’t have as much time and brain energy to write as I did before. And my original characters are easier to write. Because I never have to worry that they’re out of character. I never have to look up continuity or facts that I didn’t write myself. For Check Please, the only main character from cannon that I ever really wrote extensively was Jack. Kent and Jeff are a mix of fannon, cannon and OCs because we don’t have much cannon to work with. I created my Aces almost completely from scratch. Writing for Lone Star was a return to trying to match characterizations. Yes, the characters resembled my own OCs and that helps but I have probably watched every episode from the first season over ten times. I’ve gone to individual scenes to try to learn their voices. Any of the things it seems like I “got right” in fic written before season 2 aired came from me watching scenes over and over. I was sure TK was already a certified paramedic because of research I did. I based Judd being the baby on things I saw in the show. Carlos being out to his parents but them not acknowledging it? Yes, that’s from dmy own background knowledge, but also from me studying his character to decide that he’d let them get away with this. And this is after the advantages I have from having spent time in LA, having grown up in Texas, having lived in Florida and Chicago. I’ve set books in New York because I have spent so much time in NYC. And any time I don’t know something, I text my girl who has lived in NYC her whole life. So everyone writing Lone Star who is having to research Texas or can’t just send a text that says, “Hey, at what age did you start taking the subway to school?” is doing so so much work. On the other hand? I know every single thing about Micah, Mason, and Reaper. I don’t have to do character reseach like that because I decide their voices and their personalities. It’s so much less work for me. And I think we need to respect that really good fanfiction can be more work than original fiction. Both are work. Both show talent. But honestly, original fic is easier for me? Yes. My original fic takes so much less time to write well.

1. I didn’t mean to offend you. I was asking a genuine question that I was curious about. The Raven Queen is a beautiful character. But I mostly noticed short hair on the dark skinned (For specifics - unambiguously black) women while scrolling your art. Also growing natural hair is not difficult. All hair grows at about the same rate. It’s length retention that is more difficult. Luckily w/ products/info out there for black hair, many have aced length retention and have full, long natural hair.

2. I hate the narrative that “Natural hair doesn’t grow” because it’s false. I love short hair but it’s always assigned to black women by default in art which further perpetuates the LIE that we can rarely grow our hair.

You’re correct that natural hair all grows the same rate. That was a misuse of language on my part. I meant “maintain.” And I was speaking to my own experience of growing up in a community where girls were taught to straighten and perm their hair to shit. Most people got their products from drug stores that catered to straight hair. Everyone I’ve talked to about their natural hair journeys emphasized patience, buying proper products, and routine. Heck, I’m on my own journey right now. I’ll be sure to clarify going forward.

I’ll admit, to me, the original question felt more like “Hey, why are you propagating this stereotype?” Instead of, “Hey, could you explain your character designs?” And that made me feel cagey because there’s so few black artists in this fandom. And I’ve worked really hard to become one of the more prolific ones. Those two things create this daunting scenario where I become scrutinized for drawing black women that I identify with in a way that reflects my experiences, just because they manage to fit the precedent.

Real talk, I once saw a picture of Lucretia with chunky box braids, and I was like “FUCK, why didn’t I think of that?” Still might do it, but I am enjoying short hair Lucretia a lot right now. In the podcast, she’s a middle aged woman with a lot of responsibility and her hair is described as silver. I looked up to a lot of teachers and coaches, and the majority of them had short cropped hair, the black women especially. To me, it was a natural progression to give her a style that was classy, but not time consuming.

Aubrey Little is Puerto Rican and I draw her with African features. Her wiki directly describes her with “a "goth-punk" appearance with a pompadour undercut hairstyle.” In the animatic I made of Aubrey, I drew her younger self with longer hair, and then when she was a teen and a young adult, it was undercut and short. Cutting hair is always symbolic of a change in identity, and most times, a traumatic experience. And she definitely went through a dramatic change. I think she would maintain that look years later, because, “Flame Magic. Hair could look like a flame and that’d be cool.”

I draw the Raven Queen with long, thick hair specifically to address the fact that people don’t draw darker women with long hair enough. She’s a goddess and a motherly figure (at least in fannon.) I thought it would be great for her styles to reflect variations of black beauty and power. I adore drawing her, but I don’t do it all the time because I like the impact of occasionally showing off this gorgeous woman in a new outfit and people being like, “That’s MY mom.”

Anyways, what I would do for this soft dude to just hug me and pat my head and tell me I’m okay. Akaashi for sure tries his best not to stand out too much, often being Bokuto’s “wingman” and hyping him up. So, you can imagine how he actually feels. He’s a great player but then again, the ace is the player who scores the most amount of points.

Kotaro Bokuto: Dancing Queen by ABBA

Okay, you might be wondering: “Amphs, why did you chose this song of every other song?” And that’s a wonderful question, and my answer to that is this; Bokuto for sure is a party animal and likes cute upbeat songs, and whats funnier than imagine Bokuto sliding around his house (hardwood floors) in socks, boxers, and a dress shirt dancing to Dancing Queen. Adorable, 10/10.

Ushijima Wakatoshi: 9 to 5 by Dolly Parton

Wow, it’s low-key embarrassing to admit that I have Dolly Parton on my playlist but in my defense, everyone knows 9 to 5. I know its very fannon to see ushijima as a guy who’s very into farming even though hes not, and i agree its kinda annoying. But, you can’t tell me this man doesn’t give you “I-listen-to-willy’s-roadhouse-constantly-vibes” I love Ushi so much but,,, he reminds me of my grandpa.

Kenjiro Shirabu: Harness Your Hopes B-Side by Pavement

Shirabu is a very passive aggressive man, and this song is also passive aggressive- well just aggressive works tbh. The song itself sounds almost sarcastic with how bored and annoyed the singer sounds, mocking whoever’s listening: Thus, the Shirabu vibes it gives off.

Tsutomu Goshiki: Sweater Weather by The Neighborhood

This isn’t a sexuality head cannon for Goshiki-san, this is me saying he’s a soft bastard. Like I can imagine him listening to this song and imagine cuddling with someone in a beach house that has a fire-place in the winter, cuddling with them while both wearing the same over-sized sweater, his lover in the front of the sweater and him in the back. perfect cuddling session tbh.

Satori Tendou: SugarCrash! by ElyOtto

Wow, this song sounds so sweet and energetic but the lyrics are hella sad. The song talks about being one of the people who often brings people up but feeling alone and useless, just like Tendou-san did when he was younger. Tendou was bullied for his looks like Yamaguchi, but instead of fighting back he caved in and became what his bullies called him: a monster. But this time it was different, he embraced his difference and became one hell of a blocker.

Eita Semi: Killer Queen by Queen

Semi-san gets bitches, look at him: he probably has a fan club. The song is a classic, the entire arrangement of the song is art and Semi, our favorite musician boy probably critiques songs on the radio like the bastard he is (me too, tho. band has changed me into a different person when evaluating songs). Semi-san also gives me the “I-like-old-rock-esc-songs” and me too, me too.

Anyways, small rant but fannon haikyuu characters physically hurt me. like the immense sexualization of gay men pisses me off so much, like nothings wrong with being gay! But when you enforce harmful stereotypes it does exactly that: HARMS PEOPLE! Don’t get me started on how people take shy or “traditionally feminine” men (literally anyone with any sort of “feminine” trait) from haikyuu and just scream “oH lOoK hE’S a bOtToM!11!!1!” the more i see that shit the more I wanna punch cishets in the fucking stomach: especially fujioshis(?) Blitzwing would absolutely hesitate to love someone because he has self esteem issues and everyone always throws that out the window when writing him in a romantic scenario. This bot has gone through a horror show and he would feel like a burden to whoever he has feelings for because he's just the crazy triple changer that no one respects or likes.

He got used in an experiment that caused him severe psychological trauma and we don't even know if he was a willing patient. He was a deadly opponent in the first season that got nerfed into a henchman buffoon and shit talked anytime someone brought him up. My man was treated as a trophy in his final scenes to further the political career of an authoritarian xenophobic jerkwad. My mans deserved so much better..

8) do you even like the source your f/o comes from or do you only watch it for them & nothing else?

Oh I absolutely love Transformers animated!! It has such a unique personality compared to other iterations and it has the smartest megatron. Its also the show that got me into transformers (other than the first bay movies which I like much less)

In the beginning? No. I was completely fine with all the weird fannon interpretation and ships (and we'll fucking get to that) but I didn't think about it. It was when I realized that he had the same emotional issues as me. Having BPD and living with folks with BPD is quite a rollercoaster but I saw so much of me in blitzwing I just wanted to be his friend at first and chill and then the emotions got so much deeper and now I've made fankids and we're happily married ksjdaksj.

But when I realized that he had the traits of the 3 main tumblr sexymen I had a "oh no, people are gonna be weird about him aren't they?.." moment but my heart was set anyway.

4. What villian do you believe is most worthy for a redemption ark?

If we’re talking about ones who’ve had it and i thought deserved it then ZUKO.

If we’re talking those who have yet to have one and i think they should.

Billy Hargrove. And stick with me here because I know he’s a piece of shit but I have a reason for this.

Okay so, Billy he’s really a kid. He’s what 16-17 should he know better than to be a piece of shit? yes. Does he? clearly fucking not but really, not that many people do at that age. 

Young people do shitty things, and i’m not saying it’s okay, or that his abusive bullshit is in anyway normal, but also…I get it. Hurting someone else can feel good when you’re hurting and it’s easy to let your pain overshadow everyone elses and think making yourself feel better takes president to being a decent fucking human being. (it doesn’t, dont be a dick)

Now i’m going to go of kinda fannon here so bare with me. Neil Hargrove is abusive, he used homophobic slurs against his son and is widly suspected of being a racist piece of shit and currently, Billy is his mini me and we shouldn’t like him, he doesn’t deserve to be liked, getting abused doesn’t cancel out the shitty things he does and the (not so subtle)  undertones of racism his character shows.

So why redeem this piece of shit?

Because. Stranger things is an extremely fucking popular show set in a time that, unfortunately, isn’t so different to the current climate of the world. Everything is going to shit, racism and homophobia are prevalent. It’s a show that not only draws the eyes of adults but kids. It’s a show that is setting examples for the youth of today with these characters who match their ages and are open about their emotions.

Kids will be watching it and seeing themselves as ou beautifully nerdy little heros.

And i bet you also have kids watching it who see themselves in Billy. You’ll have those kids who (again we’re going into the fanon of possibilities of season 3 and a Billy redemption) will look at Billy agreeing with his fathers disgusting world views, or at the very least not arguing against them. 

Now, you could have that end two ways. Number one, you could have Billy not question his dad, continue down the path of piece of shit and no doubt end up dying a gruesome death or getting his arse kicked by our heros again and returning home to get the same treatment from Neil.

Or, You could show the story of a kid  following his fathers views for the majority of his childhood turning around and learning and accepting. You could have a character that shows kids in situations similar to his that their is a way through all the anger and pain. that there is friendship to be had if they’re willing to open themselves up enough to see that we’re all the same and that everyone deserves to be treated with respect.

and it’s 6am so this is coming out nowhere near as coherent as i want to explain it. but i just think, characters like Billy, they don’t get redemption arks because they don’t ‘deserve’ them. They’re old enough to know i’s wrong, they’ve done this in the pst and blah blah blah and yeah, it’s true. but, fuck, i don’t care if you’re 17 or 57. Things like Racism and homophobia are learned. It’s ignorance. And to show a story about someone overcoming their ignorance and putting their crap aside for long enough to learn is important. 

A story of someone like Billy being brave enough to tell his father to fuck off and learn tolerance and acceptance is something we need. IT’s a story that may well resonate better with young kids in conservative households listening to their parents using slurs and spreading hate. It’s a story that says it doesn’t matter how you were brought up, you are in control of your own life, you make your choices and you can choose whether to be a piece of shit or a decent human being.

And it teaches those all ready open minded people that someones past, although it does hold weight, it doesn’t define them. That saying and doing shitty things doesnt mean you can never change, just because someone has said or done something ignorant and wrong in the past doesn’t mean they can never learn to be accepting.

In conclusion, is he worthy? No. Should he get it anyway..yeah, honestly, id be up for showing that you can out grow ignorance and that theres a way out of the ideals your family istilled in you other than like death or epic humiliation like most shows do to these types of characters.

My Mum really wanted to name me Tyranny. Like..yeah…wow. She says it sounds pretty, me and my brother will forever shame her for it. But my brother was almost called Xaiver only saved because my mum ‘couldn’t pronounce it’ so honestly, I think I had the better end of the almost name stick.

My best friends clothes. I don’t know what he uses but fucking hell it smells so good. He sent me an old top of his last year and i slept with it over my ace or like a week because his clothes always just smell so fucking good. The smell hasn’t changed since we were 12 either. Close close friends i’d say like 5. Then i have another like 15 that i love and want to meet but we don’t talk quite as much as those like main 5.

I once found a snail on my bed and i adopted that little uck or like eight hours, he just sat on my hand while i typed, moved around tracing lil slime circles on my hand. Loved tht little fucked, i was heartbroken when i had to take him outside. Found him a nice patch of leaves to chill on though. This story is a crazy one, so sit back and let me set the scene. There are so many ties that come in and out of this band for 80s rock that it’s not even funny. Forming the band in the mid-1980s, and after his departure from KISS, Vinnie Vincent recruited bassist Dana Strum, who had served as a talent scout in L.A. Strum recruited band members for the likes of Ozzy Osbourne. Strum had found both Jake E. Lee and the late Randy Rhoads for Ozzy Osbourne, so when Paul Stanley had contacted Osbourne to inquire about where he found the guitarists, he was given Strum's name. Unable to find anyone KISS considered to be on Vincent's level, Strum decided to find Vincent himself in hopes of working together. Bobby Rock came on board as the drummer. With the nucleus of the band completed, the band searched for a lead vocalist. That would end up being former Journey singer Robert Fleischman. He provided vocals on Vinnie Vincent Invasion's self-titled debut album. The record is largely glam metal, with much of it being re-worked versions of demos Vincent recorded in 1982 with former New England members Hirsch Gardner, Gary Shea, and Jimmy Waldo under the band name Warrior. Hopefully you’re still following along because those are some pretty impressive names and we’re not done yet. Warrior achieved some success with Vincent essentially replacing John Fannon as guitarist and vocalist of New England, Warrior disbanded once Vincent was selected to be a member of KISS. After the release of this self titled debut, Fleischman exited and was replaced with new vocalist Mark Slaughter. With Slaughter now on board, the band released their second album, All Systems Go in May 1988. The album featured one of the group's best-known hits, "Ashes to Ashes," and "Love Kills," which appeared on the A Nightmare on Elm Street 4: The Dream Master soundtrack.

Later in 1988, the band was released from their contract with Chrysalis Records. Having grown annoyed with what they perceived to be Vincent's domination of the project, Slaughter and Strum left to form the band Slaughter, which would go on to have success. Whew! Got all that? Some big wigs of 80s rock for sure. The next question is then, who is this Vinnie Vincent anyway? Born Vincent John Cusano he is an American guitarist and songwriter. He is a former member of the rock band Kiss, brought in to replace Ace Frehley. He was a member from 1982 until mid-1984 during the band's transition out of their makeup period. Sidebar: Vincent was the last member to wear a unique makeup/costume configuration, as the character of The Ankh Warrior. The Vinnie Vincent Invasion was his next logical incarnation post KISS. So what does this invasion sound like anyway? Well, “Do You Wanna Make Love” starts it off with a very Kiss like riff. High pitched and wailing. Reminds me of Winger. The more mellow and somber ballad type song follows with “Back On The Streets”. It’s still quite solid with power chord chunks and screaming metal leads. Possibly one of the better tunes on Side B. Now, the next cut, “I Wanna Be Your Victim” totally borrows from the KISS tune “Heavens on Fire”. The riff is eerily similar. Not sure who is truly credited first, but....that’s a debate for someone else. The lyrical content may have been at fault for no radio support on this one. I can hear the hit bleeding through though. It’s a fairly decent tune. “Baby-O” is next. This one has more accessible portions that lean towards pop metal. The bleeting vocals are a little off putting but the tones are all OK, but nothing punches through the STRAT-o-sphere (#seewhatididthere). Actually I have no idea if he plays a strat, it just sounded like a good pun. The (angelic noises) title track (end noises) “Invasion” is next. It’s definitely the most produced and beefy and really different. Hmm what kind of invasion is going on here? Alien? Privacy? Seems to be a love invasion! And it seems like there would be a video for this one. One thing is for sure, it seems like Vinnie was out to prove something with this album. I think he was successful.

Epoxies: Stop The Future ( Side 2 )

Words can really not express how much love this band. When I say love, I mean this is the band I aspire to be in. It’s synth, pop, punk, rock ... all of it. If

two of my favorite bands, Devo and The Ramones had a love child, this would be it, 100%. They formed in Portland, Oregon in the year 2000 (sounds super sciencey doesn’t it?) and was heavily influenced by new wave. The group's music is a novel synthesis (#seewhatididthere) of punk rock and new wave but their lyrics are strictly focused on science fiction themes, Atomic Age futurism, alienation and consumerism. Robots, androids, clones and nuclear weapons all figure prominently in the Epoxies' lyrics. They were first known as the Adhesives before discovering that another group with that name existed, so they did the punk rock workaround. My time in music has been largely centralized around the underground and punk rock in general. I have always loved new wave and the 80s. By large punk rock has helped shape my beliefs and values and so when a band came along that fused all of these things, I was on board. Perfect timing too, as the punk scene was becoming stagnant for me. Almost Single-handedly this band kept my interest in the genre as I considered moving on (I mean there were my pals The Copyrights and The Ergs, too). Their purposefully “outdated” and “uncool” sound (that what the band says they were going for at the time) were fresh sounding relief to my longing ears. The band (perhaps accidentally) really stumbled on to something too, as soon after a LOT of mainstream acts were sounding like them. It’s jus5 retro enough, but still futuristic too. It’s difficult to explain the originality in sameness to anyone unfamiliar with the variables. Sadly the band called it quits around 2007. Stop The Future is their second and last studio album, but it’s a real gem, so hold on to your Energy Domes, spuds! Here we go! “Stop The Future” is the title track and a blistering, space rock, surfy instrumental. Not much else to say (#seewhatididthere) except it’s pretty tight and leads perfectly into “Struggle Like No Other”. With the Punky nuggets and four on the floor Blitz, this is a punk rock show case showdown. Quick, no frills, and deadly precision. The only flashpoint is that it does appear to come across as filler. “No Interest” has a good mid-tempo groove and really highlights the harmonies that Roxy and the band can accomplish together. I suppose that is one underrated element of the band that’s hard to translate. The band conveys unity through the music. Just the sense that they are all friends and having fun together. That’s hard to do, and honestly I could just be inferring this. Anyway, the sci-fi themes and range are what grabs your attention. “You Kill Me” is next, and one of the main tunes I think of when I think about this band. It has an almost swing beat, and really might as well contain a swinging bat too, because they hit it out of the park here! One of my favorites. “At The Seams” is another quick one to remind us that they are first and foremost punk rock and held together by stitches. The last two tunes are “It’s You” (a more straight ahead pop punk number) and “Toys”. On the latter, the 80s come alive! Nice sound FX and a pretty good, locked in groove. Diversity for the band with beautiful moments of keyboard serenity. Yes, for sure...THIS is the band I desperately long to form. It’s a perfect blend of DEVO and A Flock Of Seagulls meets Mr. T Experience and Green Day. I mean, they even use the checkbook font (#fontnerd) so...how could I NOT like them?!.

Today Vinnie Vincent Invasion did just that. Invade RRW’s battlefield and give us a show. The guy just looks like he knows he’s that good. They burned 165 calories over 5 songs and 23 minutes. That is 33.0 calories burned per song and 7.17 calories burned per minute. VVI earned 10 out of 15 possible stars. The Epoxies tried to stop the future because they are radically stuck in the past, but it’s OK because they are great at it! They burned 145 calories over 19 minutes and 7 songs. The averages are 20.71 calories burned per song and 7.63 calories burned per minute. The Epoxies earned 17 out of 21 possible stars. Keep your feet on the ground and keep reaching for the stars Vinnie, because The Epoxies went over the top and walk away today’s champs!
