Buddie: Episodes 6x10 vs. 8x7
Last Thursday when I watched the promo for this week's episode, I noticed a lot of similarities to 6x10 and since then I've been wondering if the callback to the lightning strike will have any significance along with an effect on Buck and Eddie. Aside from the obvious of a firefighter hanging from a ladder truck's aerial, there are several others that are blatant and appear to have been done on purpose.
Since season 8 began, there have been numerous callbacks to previous seasons and they include emergency calls the 118 has been dispatched to. In 8x6, they were sent to a home where a young boy was trapped in a pipe and it looked similar to the well Eddie rescued Hayden from in 3x15. However, before Eddie could be pulled up to safety, the well collapsed and Buck lost his mind and started clawing at the ground and trying to dig Eddie up with his bare hands. Now, even though the 8x6 callback to the well didn't appear to have any obvious effects on Buck and Eddie, it's possible the call in 8x7 might.
An actor from the TV show set of "Hotshots" gets injured and he ends up hanging from the 119's aerial. It's too eerily similar to a call the 118 was dispatched to in 6x10 and it's when Buck got struck by lightning and he died for 3 minutes and 17 seconds. However, this call seems to be more than just a similarity because all of the 118 team members are standing in positions and doing the same things they did in 6x10. It almost seems like TM (showrunner) is setting up something big and he's trying to jog someone's (Buck's) memory (it makes me think my Buddie Crack Theory [linked here] is still in play).
Reminder Buck was dead, so he has no idea what happened after he got struck but everyone else does. In CANON, no one has told him about that time period that he was hanging in the air and the look on his face in the promo makes it seem like he's trying to figure something out.
Let's get started.
After the 118 arrives on the scene, one of the first things I noticed is Eddie, Chimney and Buck are all standing in the same positions they were in before Buck climbed up the ladder in 6x10. Eddie and Chimney are right beside each other and Buck is standing away from them. In 6x10, he was preparing to go up the ladder.
The second thing I noticed was Bobby looking up at the Hotshots' actor the same way he looked up at Buck after he was struck.
Hen was looking up too the same way she did in 6x10.
Furthermore, Eddie's (it looks like Eddie on the left and Buck on the ladder on the right) position on the ladder in 8x7 appears to be the same as it was when he climbed up without a harness to save Buck.
There weren't any shots of Chimney looking up in 8x7 or of how he will be involved in the rescue but his role was key in 6x10 so I'm anxious to see how it will all play out.
Gerrard and Bobby are standing side by side and they're both looking up so I want to know if Bobby will have a flashback to Buck being struck and I also want to know if he'll have to tell Gerrard the best way to get the actor down.
I also noticed Chimney and Eddie are wearing sunglasses but no one else is. They all have them and since the sun is out and Buck's squinting when he looks up, it seems like he should be wearing a pair. Hen has eyeglasses that have lenses in them that transition to sunglasses but she's not wearing them. Also, I've noticed Eddie only wears sunglasses when he doesn't want anyone to see his eyes 👀.
When Buck (on the right) and Eddie (on the left) start trying to rescue the actor, Buck starts yelling "No, no, no, no!" and it sounds similar to the yell he let out after he was struck by lightning.
Just saying.
It's unclear what TM is doing and no one will know until the episode airs but I'm excited to see if Eddie being in the same position he was in after Buck got struck will have an effect on him.
I'm excited for 8x7 and I hope the obvious call back will have some meaning and allow the 118 to remember what happened to Buck and hopefully, Buck will ask questions about what happened to him. Reminder, he STILL HASN'T PROCESSED HIS DEATH.

The Last of Us Joel Miller Character Study S1E1: Joel's Drawer(s)
His literal drawer(s).
I changed the shadows to try to make out what he keeps in this top drawer and to the best of my eyes:
A green CD case. I have a green CD case just like this I keep DVDs in. Twins with Joel!
Sunglasses or eyeglasses case, which, come on Craig Mazin, we couldn't get even one shot of Joel in sunglasses? Have you never watched Narcos? Pedro looks divine in sunnies. Have you never watched We Can Be Heroes? Pedro looks divine in eyeglasses. Petition for more Pedro roles who canon wear glasses, please. Anyway...
Some sort of leather case/dopp kit style bag. Wrong shape for CDs, and I don't remember ever seeing a cassette holder like this. And that would be unlikely in 2003. Perhaps a keepsake box? It's well-worn around the edges and looks older, so whatever it is, it's important to Joel.
Random paper, maybe business cards or phone numbers?
And of course, money
6. What looks like a checkbook cover, which were def still in heavy use in 2003
7. The checkbook is resting on a darker object that I would guess is an address book. These were still very common in 2003 as we were making the transition from paper books to phone contact lists. I still had a contact book because at that time if you changed your phone, you could not export/import/sync contacts, so w had a master list. (I still have mine I think, but I don't update it anymore.)
8. The yellow plastic device looks like a stud-finder I used to own, which would not surprise me and would match the construction ephemera we saw on the desk. But, perhaps someone else knows what this is?
9. The white trim looks like the top of a catch-call basket and I can't figure out what the orange loop is. Not a headband. Maybe a kind of strap?
10. There looks to be some metal pieces inside the basket, and a metal device outside of the basket against the back drawer wall. It almost looks like an older pencil sharpener, but other than that, I can't guess. Anyone else have an idea?
11. It looks like a roll of Smarties candy under the stud-finder(?). I love the idea of Joel stashing candy in his drawer.
I love that the brown leather case and checkbook cover are classic, simple yet elegant in leather and very practical, and the brown leather case looks especially loved. I wonder what he keeps in there?
All together, this drawer is functional, relatively neat, and obviously he is not worried about Sarah borrowing money or seeing these possessions. Maybe he even leaves the candy for her, knowing she'll be in the drawer at times. Cutest dad ever.

Saw some discourse (can't remember where) about Crowley's sunglasses in the timeline
Vaguely I remember it said that him wearing glasses in the Job minisode, Land Of Uz (2500 BC) , seemed "out of place" / unnatural when later he doesn't wear them in Golgotha (33 AD), when they witness the crucifixion.
Originally in the season 1 timeline of their encounters, we first witness and therefore, were inclined to believe that Crowley's first debut of their signature shades was 6 years after Golgotha, in Rome (41 AD) .
But we find later that he actually debut a pair of tinted spectacles earlier in 2500 BC, which is year's before we were led to believe in season 1.
And even then another flashback minosode could change it yet again.
Now, we know that Aziraphale and Crowley's meeting in the Land of Uz is the first they've seen of the other since The Flood, Mesopotamia (3004 BC) * [Aziriphale makes a comment about it].
I did wonder if maybe this was the first time Aziraphale sees Crowley with eye-glasses. But I feel like he would've made a comment about them. Upon recognizing Crowley he sort of gives him a look up and down at their appearance, but he dosen't mention anything about it despite it being the biggest change in apparel worn. Prior it was mostly just variations on long robes of white and black respectively seen worn at the Garden (4004 BC) and at the flood (3004 BC).
I feel like Aziraphale would've said something about it, unless he had already seen Crowley in something similar previously. Or rather he understands that Crowley is simply blending in.
This leads into my PoinT...
That Crowley wears glasses in order to pose as a human (aka. Billdad the Shuite).
Crowley has a number of personal reason he prefers to where his Sunglasses (look cool and mysterious, hide his expressions/feeling, as an armour to protect himself etc.) But professionally, it would be hard to go about your buisness if people were freaked out by your serpintine features. So he wears them to blend In.
In the Job-isode, the times Crowley is wearing the glasses (aside from his first introduction) is when he is posing as the HUMAN, Bildad the Shuite, professional midwife/cobbler. He even fools multiple Archangels of heaven with his human guise.
Now compare that to when he isn't wearing them. After taking them off to taunt Aziraphale he doesn't put them back on? Why?
Because he isn't pretending to be the human family friend Billdad the Shuit . With Job's kids, He is acting as a demon, "sent here to destroy you all" (but not actually, just turn you into lizards, temporarily).
So I pose the reason Crowley wears glasses in 2500 BC, but not in 41 AD when he meets Aziraphale and re-introduces themselves as the now "Crowley", is because he wasn't assuming a human identity at the time. In fact he could've just popped round after doing some demonic work. He does mention how he "showed him all the Kingdoms of the world" (one of the temptations offered to Jesus in the dessert).
Eventually, approximately starting 6 years later in Rome (but possibly as far back as Job), eyeglasses become a permentant feature of Crowley's earthen appearance/apparel for year's to come. In fact I'm sure Crowly inadvertently invented all the stereotypes of cool/dangerous guys in sunglasses for the future.
I believe the glasses become a facet of their identity, as he creates it while living on Earth. As he begins to re-invent themself (beginning with re-naming himself) and develop his identity on earth he adopts the sunglasses more.
For convenience as times became more modern, but also because they proved useful in tricking both heaven and hell. Heaven won't recognise him and Hell can't tell what he's thinking or feeling. Nothing is given away.
Anyway that's ma'point. Better stop now before I start rambling more
I have more to say, I especially want to dive into the change in Aziraphale's demeanor with Crowley from the start of the Jobisode, towards the end as well as how it compared with their previous encounters shown in season 1.
Here's a link to a Youtube video by o0Zewy0o of Crowley and Aziriphale's meeting.

Clothing & Wearing Magic – Part 1
Something common within the witch community is to read the advice to enchant necklaces and rings for various purposes, and although it is also common to read about putting sigils hidden in clothes or the soles of shoes, there is much more cloth to cut regarding the subject. So I will classify it in several parts. Remember that it is only indicative, examples may be missing and there are a thousand enchantments that could be better, but it is only to give an idea.
Part 1: Location.
Different parts of the body have different biological functions, and while a charm on the hand or foot (for luck, for example) can have similar results, checking “where” it is implemented is important to maximize its potential when resort to correspondence. When several things correspond to the same end, they are potentiated, add their skills, which gives more lasting, strong and effective results. That is why I have divided the location based on the different parts of the body.
Headgear: Hats, earings, glasses, sunglasses, scarves, headphones, masks, etc. These elements tend to be linked to primary sensory characteristics and intelligence, it can be said that the head is dominated by the Air element, so what reigns here are the abilities to see/hear/smell/speak, eloquence, ability to talk, how the brain works in social mode. So any enchantment intended to enhance (or nullify) these abilities will benefit if applied to a head outfit, as well as strengthen Clairsentience. It also includes your own hair, hairstyle and hair color, which makes it more versatile.
Hats, beanies, veils, tiaras, headbands, hair clips, etc: By covering the head they function more as protectors, a natural barrier to energy. Since the top usually has the most "pure" energy, people who are sensitive to energy changes (or energy vampires) may benefit from enchanting hats. It can also serve to strengthen Claircognizance. Above all, it can help with charms dedicated to the brain, social anxiety, mental illness, etc. (pls mundane before magic okay baby? Love you).
Earings, ear piercings, headphones, hearing aid, cochlear implant: Ear charms. Hear truths, ignore lies, ignore gossip, hear dangers. It can benefit to strengthen Clairaudience.
Eyeglasses, sunglasses, eyebrow piercing, contact lenses, prosthetic eyes: Eye Charms. See the truth, not be affected by glam spells, barriers to spells and energies, focus, strengthen Clairvoyance.
Masks, scarves, mouth/tongue/nose piercing, brackets, necklaces, tracheostomy tube: It can help to verbalize our ideas, control stuttering, anxiety to speak, to say what should be said, in addition to strengthening Clairalience and Clairgustance.
Hand elements: Bracelets, watch, rings, nail color/design, wristbands, gloves. The hands are givers and takers of energy, you literally manipulate energy all day long, so the spells here can focus on that manipulation. They are the most common to enchant for their versatility and ease of exchange.
Torso Elements: The torso carries the center of our energy (and organs), so it is usually the area that requires the least protection (spiritually speaking, it is dominated by the four elements, but mainly Earth and Fire), since it carries accumulated energy, which is difficult to affect. The organs, the amount of "life" (biological activity, electricity, blood), accumulations of bones and organic material (organs, food, fluids), make it the defensive point of the body. Even so, it can be benefited by spells depending on the clothes.
Underwear/ binders/ necklaces/ medical equipment such as CPAP, colostomy bag, etc: They are linked to what is closest to the body, therefore, they can be enchanted for everything linked to internal desires, fears and, for medical equipment, to improve health (enchanting equipment can also help them work better, last longer in optimal condition, reduce symptoms and so on, but remember, be careful, pls).
Outerwear such as hoodies, jackets, poncho, coats or whatever you are wearing as a top layer: Being in direct contact with the outside world, you can benefit from enchanting it with protection, or spells for bravery, courage, strength.
Leg Elements: Pants, belts, canes, walkers, wheelchair, skirts, orthopedic legs. Ruled mainly by the Earth element, it can help to strengthen mobility, agility, speed, dexterity spells, not to move from your place, to remain firm.
Foot Elements: Shoes, slippers, orthopedic shoes, ankle bracelet. As with the legs, the feet focus on mobility, but they are also the ones that transport you through different energy spaces, they are the ones that can most easily receive the influence of the energy of the place, so it can be beneficial to add enchantments of protection. Socks are usually responsible for collecting odors, and due to their "nature" of being easily replaceable, it is not wrong to think that enchanting them can also help absorb bad energy, which will go down the drain when washed.
Part 2: Materials.
Part 3: Designs and Colors.

This is the part that is less likely the artist will read, because even with these restrictions, this is still an awful lot of information that will take more than one day for any artist to digest. We’re not dumb, it’s just that we have to actually do the words-to-images reasoning. Feel a bit freer here, since all the essential information should be already written.

The Cuphead Show: Dreamstones Edition Sneak Preview 4
Kaichi, the Cup Brothers and the girls arrived in town and had entered an eyeglasses shop, standing at the counter to speak with the clerk working there. The clerk is female anthropomorphic flathead screwdriver wearing glasses, white gloves and a yellow shirt while her handle acts as a skirt.
“Let me get this straight. You mean to tell me these two boys here couldn’t get a cookie jar from a sleeping old man?” The screwdriver lady questioned with a frown while looking over Elder Kettle’s broken glasses.
Before either anyone could respond, the glasses break in half, making the girls cringe.
“Um… yes, sounds about right.” Natty confirmed awkwardly.
“Look, lady, can you fix ‘em or not?” Cuphead asked impatiently and annoyed.
“Cuphead!” Katie scolded.
“Of course. But I don’t like your tone. Hmph!” The clerk scoffed sternly.
“We’re terribly sorry about that, ma’am.” Lexie apologized. “He’s just a little anxious that we need to get ‘em fixed as soon as possible.”
“Patience is a virtue, miss. This will take time.” The clerk stated. “And next time, be sure to teach that cup in red to show some proper manners and respect.”
She turned away and hopped over a large magnifying glass to look over the glasses. Cuphead blows a raspberry at the clerk as he wiggles his finger at her until Lexie scoldingly lowers his hand down and gave him a look that screams, “Be on your best behaviour.”
Suddenly, loud and upbeat music started to fill the air, much to the group’s surprise and confusion. Meanwhile, the clerk just looked annoyed as she turned to them in accusation.
“Kindly turn that down. I hate music!” The clerk snapped.
“It wasn’t us.” Kaichi shrugged.
“We’re not playing music.” The Cup Brothers added.
“I think it’s actually coming from outside.” Katie spoke up as she motioned at the door, which suddenly opened, revealing a young girl who is about the same age as the Cups danced in.
She is an anthropomorphic light yellow chalice a golden-coloured edge and handles as well as an orange and white striped straw similar to Mugman’s. She has a small golden nose, round eyes with eyelashes and a tiny beauty mark under her right eye.
Her attire is a black shirt similar to the Cup Bros’, only hers has a white collar, a light blue skirt, white bloomers, white gloves and orange Mary Janes.
The chalice girl happily dances into the store as she moves sideways with her arms.
Chalice Girl: When you’re feeling
You gotta spread that sunshine all around
She then jumps onto a rolling ladder as she sang.
You gotta turn that frown upside down
And sing across the rainbow
Landing on the counter, she happily tap danced across it, much to the confusion of the clerk. With a big smile, the chalice girl takes the clerk’s hand and spins her around, causing the clerk to suddenly smile, seemingly having a change of heart about music.
Now, the chalice girl skids across the counter until she stops, tap dancing some more. She dances and spins around in a circle. She lays forward on the counter and uses her fingers to tap on Cuphead and Mugman’s heads like drums.
The chalice girl now slides across the counter while laying forward on it while the clerk happily wags her finger to the beat, much to the humans’ confusion.
Chalice Girl: When the world is saying no
Don’t waste your time feeling low
The chalice girl spins the glasses stand and stops it with her finger. The clerk then taps the stand with her back a pair of sunglasses on the chalice girl, who happily stands up and waves and jumps off the counter.
The chalice girl dances some more while clicking her heels. She then dances backwards with a big smile on her face, looking like she doesn’t have a care in the world.
Chalice Girl: Click your heels
Go Go Go!
And dance across a rainbow!
She spins around and dashes off with glee, leaving behind some confetti and sparkles before the door slams shut.
Lexie, Katie, Natty, Kaichi and the Cup Brothers were left speechless and confused by what had just transpired. Meanwhile, the once stern and g formally music-hating clerk was happily waving wagging her finger while cheerily humming the chalice girl is song in the background.
“What the heck was that?” Cuphead asked.
“I have no idea…” Natty answered, lost for words.

I moved these two paragraphs up because this is actually more important but...
My visually impaired peeps... please, please, please go check out ZenniOptical.com! A few years before I got surgery, I essentially dropped my vision insurance altogether because it was cheaper to pay out of pocket for an exam and then buy glasses from them.
It's been a while since I've bought them, but I used to be able to buy a pair, full prescription (I was -6 on both eyes) for, like, $25. It was cheap enough, that I would buy spares for when accidents happened I had something with me or near me that I could swap to. I would also do prescription sunglasses with them, since it was still cheaper than what I would have paid for one pair of glasses at the optometrist. That's also where I got the prescription goggles I mention below. They have add-ons for glasses to, like off-brand transition so they automatically darken in the sun, or oleophobic coatings, anti-glare, pretty much all the same shit you would could get at the optometrist for like 1/4 of the price. Seriously, that level of affordability drastically improved my life at the time and I will be forever grateful.
As someone who wore glasses/contacts from age 6 to age 30, it really is a disability!!! I can't tell you how many incidents I've had where I lost them or couldn't wear them and would have / was completely hosed without them.
Like, that one time I had them strapped to my face but still got knocked off in the wave pool at Typhoon Lagoon and my husband spent a long ass time looking for them because I COULDN'T.
Or the one time I broke my glasses when I was a kid, right before we were about to go on a trip to Puerto Rico and my mom had to super glue them back together because we had neither the time and money, but they were plastic so the super glue ended up eating through most of it and I was pretty much down and out the whole trip.
Or the countless times I've ridden roller coasters and water slides blind because I didn't want to lose them.
And pretty much having to swim blind in the ocean every time I went to the beach for the same reason and making sure I had someone with me to help me find my way back.
The one time I was playing underwater hockey with prescription goggles, and someone took my goggle's case thinking they were theirs... and my glasses were in there, but I couldn't exactly drive home with my prescription goggles so my husband had to come bring me an old pair I had lying around the apartment.
And just so much more shit like this that has occurred throughout my life.
Glasses are fine and good when you have them, but you're completely fucked if something happens to them.
So don't tell me it's not a disability. It's ridiculous that glasses aren't covered by health insurance, but honestly, corrective surgery should be too! The reason I stopped wearing glasses at age 30 was because I paid $8K out of pocket for corrective surgery, and of course, my vision was bad enough I didn't qualify for some of the cheaper ones like Lasik.
But the biggest crime is that the eyeglasses they sell at pretty much every optometrist office are horrendously price hiked! They DO NOT need to be that expensive, hence my obligatory ad for Zenni Optical...
Made the mistake of bringing up that needing glasses is a disability on tiktok and people got real mad.
“You can fix it with glasses” yeah, cuz they’re a disability aid? But like, I still have to pay 160 bucks to use my own fucking eyes?
Like, by definition, if your eyes do not work without aid, you have a disability to see.
Having a disability doesn’t automatically put you in what people consider the “disabled” category, but that doesn’t change the fact that it is in fact, a disability.

The Art of Recycling: Turning Vinyl Records into Stylish Glasses
Recycling is an incredible way to breathe new life into materials that might otherwise go to waste. One of the most creative examples of this is transforming old vinyl records into stylish, functional, and eco-friendly eyewear. This process is a testament to how innovation and sustainability can come together to create something truly special. From recycled glasses to painter palettes and mirrors, these once-loved records are now becoming a part of daily life in exciting ways.
A New Spin on Vinyl Records
Vinyl records have a rich history. For decades, they were cherished as a way to listen to music, but with the rise of digital streaming, millions of records were left unused. Instead of ending up in landfills, many of these records are now being repurposed into something just as timeless and functional: eyeglasses made from recycled materials.
This transformation isn’t just practical; it’s also artistic. Each pair of eco-friendly glasses carries a bit of history, preserving the grooves and textures of the original records. No two pairs are exactly the same, making them as unique as the people who wear them.
How Are Recycled Glasses Made?
The process of turning vinyl records into glasses starts with careful selection. Only records in good condition are chosen to ensure durability and quality. These records are then cleaned, flattened, and cut into specific shapes for frames. Skilled artisans shape and polish each piece to perfection, ensuring they are comfortable to wear and stylish to look at.
To make the frames even more versatile, the vinyl is often combined with other sustainable materials like wood or biodegradable plastics. This ensures that the finished product is not only durable but also lightweight and comfortable.
Why Choose Eco-Friendly Eyewear?
When you opt for eco-friendly eyeglasses, you’re making a statement about your commitment to sustainability. Traditional eyewear production can involve materials and processes that harm the environment. By choosing products made from recycled vinyl records, you’re helping to reduce waste and conserve resources.
Eco-friendly eyewear is also a conversation starter. When someone asks about your glasses, you can proudly share the story of how they were once spinning music on a turntable. It’s a small but impactful way to inspire others to think differently about recycling and sustainability.
Beyond Glasses: The Endless Possibilities of Recycled Vinyl
While glasses and sunglasses made from recycled materials are among the most popular items created from vinyl records, the possibilities don’t stop there. Artists and designers are using recycled vinyl to craft everything from coasters and jewelry to furniture and decorative items.
This movement shows that creativity knows no bounds when it comes to repurposing materials. By turning waste into beauty, these innovations remind us that almost anything can have a second life with a little imagination and care.
The Benefits of Recycled Vinyl Products
Reduces Waste: Every record that is recycled is one less item in a landfill.
Saves Resources: Recycling uses fewer resources compared to creating products from scratch.
Supports Artisans: Many recycled vinyl products are handcrafted, supporting small businesses and artisans.
Unique Designs: Because of the natural grooves and patterns of vinyl, no two items are exactly alike.
Eco-Friendly Fashion: Products like recycled eye glasses allow you to stay stylish while helping the planet.
How You Can Support the Movement?
If you’re interested in joining the sustainable living movement, there are a few simple steps you can take:
Buy Responsibly: Look for products like eco-friendly glasses or other items made from recycled materials.
Spread Awareness: Share the story of your recycled vinyl products with friends and family to inspire them.
Reuse and Repurpose: Before throwing something away, think about how it might be reused or transformed.
The Future of Recycling
Recycling is no longer just about separating paper and plastic. It’s evolving into an art form that brings value and meaning to discarded materials. Turning vinyl records into recycled glasses is a perfect example of how the old and forgotten can be turned into something modern and useful.
As more people recognize the importance of sustainability, innovations like this will continue to grow. The hope is that one day, upcycling and recycling will be the norm, and waste will become a thing of the past.
A Lasting Impact
Choosing recycled vinyl products isn’t just about owning something unique; it’s about making a positive impact. By supporting this movement, you’re helping to reduce waste, promote sustainability, and celebrate creativity. Whether it’s a pair of recycled eye glasses or another innovative product, you’re not just making a purchase—you’re making a difference.
So, the next time you see a pair of stylish frames, think about the journey they might have taken. Perhaps they were once spinning a classic tune, and now they’re helping you see the world in a clearer, more sustainable way.

i really did want to be a contacts girlie when i was younger, but both my eye dryness and my face shape hated contacts. switched to glasses when i was 15 and never looked back. i use contacts on special occasions but i really would rather just wear glasses. personally i order my glasses from eyebuydirect they're not the most sturdy glasses but they're very customizable! i get new ones every year or so, and also use my acc to order my parents' so i get a lot of perks $$ wise. in conclusion, contacts are super subjective to the person and where you buy them can be so many places. i just get my eyes checked at a dr and buy them elsewhere bc it's cheaper!
I love eyebuydirect! My current frames are from them. I like having my nails done and longer nails can make wearing contacts trickier. I think I'll still order a box of dailies and try them on the weekends. It's much easier for me to wear glasses with blue light blocking because I work on a computer every day.
I so appreciate you dropping your experience for me! I've worn glasses since I was in high school--it's been 11/12 years for me (god it's about to be 12/13 next month after my birthday). When I went to the eye doctor this year I wanted to switch things up because I'm driving more and the glare is a bitch, but I think it may just be better for me to have prescription sunglasses and then just wearing those when I'm out and about. Transition lenses aren't that good for me personally when I'm driving either so I've been trying to like weigh out my options lol. It's tough.
Thanks again!

Cataracts (Motiyabind): Types, Causes, Symptoms, and Risk Factors
What is Motiyabind or Motia in the Eyes (Cataracts)?
Cataracts, also known as Motiyabind, refer to the clouding of the eye's clear lens, leading to blurred vision. This condition often makes it difficult for individuals to see clearly, much like looking through a foggy or frosted window. People with cataracts often experience issues like difficulty reading, driving (especially at night), or recognizing faces. Cataracts generally develop slowly with age but can worsen over time, eventually interfering with daily activities.
In the early stages, stronger lighting and prescription eyeglasses may help. However, once cataracts begin to significantly affect vision, surgery becomes a common recommendation. Cataract surgery is a highly effective and safe procedure that removes the clouded lens and replaces it with a clear artificial lens, restoring vision.
How Cataracts Form The eye’s lens is located behind the iris and focuses light on the retina, which then sends visual signals to the brain. When a cataract clouds the lens, the scattered light disrupts the clarity of vision, leading to blurred or dimmed sight. Cataracts typically result from changes in the proteins and fibers in the lens due to aging.
Causes of Cataracts Cataracts can form due to various factors, including:
Aging
Diabetes
Excessive exposure to sunlight or radiation
Smoking
Long-term use of steroids
Eye injuries
Hypertension
Obesity
Alcohol overconsumption
Types of Cataracts
Nuclear Cataracts: These form in the center of the lens, often causing the core to yellow or brown.
Cortical Cataracts: Begin as white, wedge-shaped streaks around the outer lens, eventually interfering with light passing through the center.
Posterior Capsular Cataracts: Affect the back of the lens and typically progress more quickly.
Congenital Cataracts: Can be present at birth or develop during childhood due to genetic conditions, infections, or trauma.
Symptoms of Cataracts
Blurred or cloudy vision
Difficulty seeing at night
Sensitivity to light
Fading or yellowing of colors
Seeing halos around lights
Frequent changes in prescription for glasses or contacts
Diagnosis and Treatment Eye specialists use various tests like visual acuity, slit-lamp exams, retinal exams, and intraocular pressure measurements to diagnose cataracts. If cataracts are detected, doctors may recommend stronger lenses initially. However, surgery is often necessary when the cataract starts disrupting daily life.
Cataract Surgery: Cataract surgery is a straightforward procedure, usually involving ultrasound waves to break up the lens (phacoemulsification) or removing the clouded lens through a small incision. Once the lens is removed, it is replaced with an artificial lens implant. This outpatient surgery is safe, with a success rate of about 98% in India. Patients can return home the same day and recover fully within 7-8 weeks.
Post-Surgery Care After surgery, mild discomfort, watery eyes, or sensitivity to light is common. Your doctor will recommend avoiding certain activities, such as heavy lifting or bending over, for a week.
Prevention To reduce the risk of developing cataracts, take these steps:
Wear UV-protective sunglasses outdoors
Get regular eye exams
Quit smoking
Maintain a healthy diet rich in antioxidants
Manage diabetes and other health conditions

What is Cataract and Treatment Options for Clearer Vision
Cataracts are one of the most common eye conditions, affecting millions worldwide. Characterized by the clouding of the eye's natural lens, they can significantly impair vision, leading to blurred images, difficulty seeing at night, and an overall decline in the quality of life. Fortunately, cataract surgery is one of the safest and most effective treatments available. This blog will explore what cataracts are, how cataract surgery is performed, and the various treatment options available.
What Are Cataracts?
A cataract develops when proteins in the eye’s lens begin to clump together, causing the lens to become cloudy. This cloudiness prevents light from passing through clearly, leading to vision problems. Cataracts typically develop slowly over time and are most common in older adults, though they can affect younger people in some cases.
Common symptoms of cataracts include:
Blurry or cloudy vision
Sensitivity to light
Difficulty seeing at night
Faded colors
Double vision in one eye
Cataracts can form in one or both eyes, but they don’t spread from one eye to the other.
What Causes Cataracts?
Several factors contribute to the development of cataracts, such as:
Age: Most cataracts are related to aging, with the condition commonly affecting individuals over 60.
Genetics: A family history of cataracts can increase the likelihood of developing the condition.
Medical Conditions: Diabetes and other health problems can increase the risk of cataracts.
Injury: Trauma to the eye can sometimes lead to cataracts.
Lifestyle Factors: Smoking, excessive alcohol consumption, and long-term exposure to UV rays are additional risk factors.
Cataract Surgery: A Proven Treatment
When cataracts interfere with your daily activities, surgery is the only effective treatment. Cataract surgery is one of the most commonly performed and safest surgeries worldwide.
During the procedure, the cloudy lens is removed and replaced with an artificial intraocular lens (IOL). The IOL becomes a permanent part of the eye, restoring clear vision. The surgery typically takes about 20-30 minutes and is performed on an outpatient basis under local anesthesia. Recovery is usually quick, with most people noticing significant improvement in their vision within a few days.
Types of Cataract Surgery:
Phacoemulsification: This is the most common type of cataract surgery. A small incision is made in the eye, and an ultrasound probe is used to break up the cloudy lens, which is then suctioned out. The IOL is then inserted.
Extracapsular Cataract Extraction (ECCE): In some cases, where the cataract is too dense for phacoemulsification, a larger incision is made to remove the lens in one piece. The IOL is then placed.
Laser-assisted Cataract Surgery: This is a more advanced technique that uses lasers to make precise incisions and soften the cataract for removal. The use of laser technology offers more precision and can reduce recovery time.
Treatment Options for Cataracts
While cataract surgery is the only way to fully treat cataracts, other measures can help manage symptoms in the early stages of the condition.
Eyeglasses or Contact Lenses: In the early stages, prescription glasses or contacts can improve vision and delay the need for surgery.
Lifestyle Modifications: Using brighter lights for reading, wearing sunglasses to reduce glare, and limiting night driving can help manage symptoms as cataracts develop.
Medications: Although there are no medications that can cure cataracts, eye drops and supplements that contain antioxidants may slow down the progression.

WHAT IS A CATARACT?
A cataract is a clouding of the lens in the eye that affects vision. Most cataracts are related to aging. Cataracts are very common in older people. By age 80, more than half of all Americans either have a cataract or have had cataract surgery.
A cataract can occur in either or both eyes. It cannot spread from one eye to the other.
Is there another type of cataract?
Yes. Although most cataracts are related to aging, there are other types of cataracts:
Secondary cataract. Cataracts can form after surgery for other eye problems, such as glaucoma. Cataracts also can develop in people who have other health problems, such as diabetes. Cataracts are sometimes linked to steroid use.
Traumatic cataract. Cataracts can develop after an eye injury, sometimes years later.
Congenital cataract. Some babies are born with cataracts or develop them in childhood, often in both eyes. These cataracts may be so small that they do not affect vision. If they do, the lenses may need to be removed.
Radiation cataract. Cataracts can develop after exposure to some types of radiation.
When are you most likely to have a cataract?
The term “age-related” is a little misleading. You don’t have to be a senior citizen to get this type of cataract. In fact, people can have an age-related cataract in their 40s and 50s. But during middle age, most cataracts are small and do not affect vision. It is after age 60 that most cataracts steal vision. The risk of cataracts increases as you get older. Other risk factors for cataracts include:
Certain diseases such as diabetes. Personal behavior such as smoking and alcohol use. The environment such as prolonged exposure to sunlight.
What are the symptoms of a cataract?
The most common symptoms of a cataract are:
Cloudy or blurry vision.
Colors seem faded.
Glare. Headlights, lamps, or sunlight may appear too bright. A halo may appear around lights.
Poor night vision.
Double vision or multiple images in one eye (this symptom may clear as the cataract gets larger).
Frequent prescription changes in your eyeglasses or contact lenses.
These symptoms also can be a sign of other eye problems. If you have any of these symptoms, call to schedule an appointment with Southern Eye Associates.
How is Cataract treated?
The symptoms of early cataracts may be improved with new glasses, brighter lighting, antiglare sunglasses, or magnifying lenses. If these measures do not help, surgery is the only effective treatment. Surgery involves removing the cloudy lens and replacing it with an artificial lens.
What are the risks of cataract surgery? As with any surgery, cataract surgery poses risks, such as infection and bleeding. Before cataract surgery, your doctor may ask you to temporarily stop taking certain medications that increase the risk of bleeding during surgery. After surgery, you must keep your eye clean, wash your hands before touching your eye, and use the prescribed medications to help minimize the risk of infection. Serious infection can result in loss of vision.
Is cataract surgery effective? Cataract removal is one of the most common operations performed in the United States. It also is one of the safest and most effective types of surgery. In about 90 percent of cases, people who have cataract surgery have better vision afterward.
What happens after surgery? Itching and mild discomfort are normal after cataract surgery. Some fluid discharge is also common. Your eye may be sensitive to light and touch. If you have discomfort, contact Southern Eye Associates and your doctor will suggest treatment. After one or two days, moderate discomfort should disappear.
For a few days after surgery, your doctor may ask you to use eye drops to help heal and decrease the risk of infection. Your doctor will instruct you about how to use eyedrops, how often to use them, and what effects they can have. You will need to wear an eye shield or eyeglasses to help protect your eye. Avoid rubbing or pressing on your eye.
When you are home, try not to bend from the waist to pick up objects on the floor. Do not lift any heavy objects. You can walk, climb stairs, and do light household chores.
In most cases, healing will be complete within eight weeks. Your doctor will schedule exams to check on your progress.
Can problems develop after surgery? Problems after surgery are rare, but they can occur. These problems can include infection, bleeding, inflammation (pain, redness, swelling), loss of vision, double vision, and high or low eye pressure. With prompt medical attention, these problems can usually be treated successfully.
Sometimes the eye tissue that encloses the IOL becomes cloudy and may blur vision. This condition is called an after-cataract. An after-cataract can develop months or years after cataract surgery.
An after-cataract is treated with a laser. Your doctor uses a laser to make a tiny hole in the eye tissue behind the lens to let light pass through. This outpatient procedure is called a YAG laser capsulotomy. It is painless and rarely results in increased eye pressure or other eye problems. As a precaution, your doctor may give you eyedrops to lower your eye pressure before or after the procedure.

How to Take Care of Your Eyes Daily
Looking for some easy yet practical tips for eye care on a daily basis? Read on to know further. While we often think eye care means eating well and limiting digital screen time, a routine exam is a vital part of eye care. To treat all eye-related concerns, you can meet the best eye doctor in Siliguri. If you correct your lifestyle, your chance of eye concerns decreases.
Here's a simple guide to maintaining optimal eye health with simple, daily habits.
Try the 20-20-20 Golden Rule
Exposure to digital screens is also impossible to avoid these days, a significant part of modern life. Prolonged screen time tends to cause eye strain, red eyes, dryness, headaches, etc. So, to get rid of these eye issues due to digital screen time, apply the 20-20-20 rule. It’s one of the simplest strategies to comfort your eyes.
Here is how you should do this practice.
Look away from your computer screen or mobile phone every 20 minutes.
Now, fix your focus on an object located 20 feet away from you.
Just do this activity for 20 seconds.
Keep Proper Screen Distance
Make sure that your screen is not close enough to your face and eyes. It should be about an arm’s length away, and ensure that the top of the monitor/laptop/computer/ is at or a little down your eye level.
Don’t Forget to Blink Often
Did you know how important blinking is for your eye health? It spreads tears over your eye surface and keeps them moist and clean. We often forget to blink while focusing on digital screens.
Stay Hydrated
Dehydration can impair your eye health over time, which may lead to dry eyes. Hydration is vital to your eye health as it maintains the tear film covering the surface of your eyes. Proper lubrication keeps your eyes moist, kicks out bacteria, removes dust particles, et al.
Eat a Balanced Diet
Nutrition plays a crucial role in your overall health, including your eyes. Below are some of the best eye-friendly nutrients to add to your diet:
Vitamin A, available in carrots, sweet potatoes, and dark leafy greens.
Omega-3 fatty acids, available in fish, flaxseeds, plant oils, and walnuts.
Vitamin C, available in citrus fruits, berries, and bell peppers.
Vitamin E, available in nuts, seeds, and spinach.
Go for Routine Eye Exams
Routine eye exams are nothing to avoid but to appreciate. Actually, we hardly go for routine eye exams until the discomfort arises. Even if you don’t wear glasses or contact lenses, a regular eye exam at least once a year is vital.
Eye specialists inspect if your eyes are fit if you need eyeglasses, or if changes in eyeglass power, etc. Talk to the top eye doctor in Siliguri for all types of eye concerns and routine checkups.
Use Proper Lighting
While not having proper lighting affects your eye health, using proper lighting can reduce eye strain. Make sure you avoid working in dim light more often and reduce glare by setting up the screen away from direct light sources.
Wear Sunglasses Outdoors
You can wear sunglasses outdoors to protect your eyes from the effects of UV rays. Prolonged exposure to UV rays can damage your eyes over time. Try wearing sunglasses with proper UVA and UVB protection outdoors.
Taking care of your eye health is no big task. All these tips are practical, requiring little effort. Besides these tips, another essential tip would be avoiding screen time at least once an hour before going to bed. For comprehensive eye care, you can visit Dr. Sangeeta Goswami, one of the reputed ophthalmologists in Siliguri.
