Swift??? Changed your url?? I thought you liked stillflight? Not that the new one isn’t cool but?

I did, and I did.

They both have meanings to me, and yeah, stillflight is my favorite url/username I've ever had so I would have kept it for longer than this. But I prefer having a custom theme and accessible archive, and my biggest worry over the past year of having the url stillflight is that people I know irl (who follow my previous blog, which had the url stillflight for like two years) would see my username on some post on their dash and recognize it, and even though I have all of them blocked, it's possible to pull up anybody's blog in a private window unless they restricted it to dashboard-only. If you're curious enough why this blog with the familiar url has you blocked for no reason.

I think I'll like not having to worry about if a comment I make on someone else's post gets reblogged, or if a tag I write gets screenshot, or if one of my posts crosses their dash before I can turn reblogs off. Actually, I think I'll also like not having to turn reblogs off any time a post exceeds 900 notes. I won't mind a post blowing up as much if I'm not constantly worried that the downside would be me getting outed as alterhuman, plural or delusional to people I literally live with. I was kind of expecting I'd change it as soon as I came across something equally perfect, if it could never be better.

Also I like myriadeyed, I like my personal meanings for it and the way it sounds almost as much as I did stillflight. Stillflight was a reference to a track from the game Everything (2017) which is my favorite game and changed my philosophy and worldview, not actually my favorite song from the OST but it was also a secret reference to a ton of other stuff (my first regular username online when I was like 12 was Timeflight; I have a personal emotional regulation routine involving the words 'still' and 'flight'; the word still has more than one meaning; I'm literally a bird that can't fly; etc.)

Thing is, I'm not the same person I was in 2020, I'm not even the same person I was months ago. I called it my "forever url" but nothing about me is ever gonna be forever. That's kind of my archetype, shape-changer. I was bound to change it eventually, same with everything on my blog that's stuck for a while. The only reason my pfp changes so much is because nothing else has yet. (Really, I don't think I'll even use the name Swift forever.) Im gonna be so fr right now and then im going back to work. Ive been on tumblr for 10 years. Ive been engaging in fandom for longer. i can say with complete confidence that fandom tumblr is not the hill to burn yourself out and die on re: activism and racial justice.

Its absolutely disgusting and unacceptable that poc phannies are getting sent slurs and anon hate. Idk how else to put it - it sucks and im disappointed its happening in a fan community im part of. But like, idk what exactly there is for anyone to do other than be aware of what you can, not be a dick, or log out? Tumblr sucks, i fucking hate it here 80% the time, this place is a literal nightmare echo chamber and it’s hardly gotten better if at ALL in the decade ive been here. I just started a full time job in a new field, i have partners and friends and a busy ass poly schedule that leaves me like 2-3 hours a day of downtime IF THAT. I literally dont read OR make posts on tumblr over 3 paragraphs as a pretty loose rule - this is not my news source, nor is it somewhere i want to go to read or engage in people’s tumblr brainrot induced lukewarm takes about real issues that require things like nuance and self awareness. I got a Gender studies degree for that. I have my real life community for that. Yall dont know me and i dont know you, and respectfully, im not getting paid to keep up with these things.

sex ABSOLUTELY matters - in a perfect world, it wouldn't matter in pretty much any context outside of medicine and orientation, but in this (patriarchal) world, it most certainly does matter. gender is not the same thing as sex, but I also never said gender doesn't matter; rather, it shouldn't exist at all bc it's an oppressive system whose function is to force people to conform to one of two sets of all-consuming stereotypes on the basis of one's sex: "masculinity" forced on male human beings and "femininity" forced on female human beings.

I could get into this in a LOT more depth, dive into the nuances and address why "femininity" is inherently oppressive, but honestly, a woman can only post the same thing so many times before she starts to go insane. I've made my old posts pretty damn acessible despite Tumblr's desire to make finding posts wholly impossible. read them 🤷

hey there ! i'm so sorry for the late reply, i've been away for 10 days 😭 i don't have a post about it but i'm more than happy to help you out !

what are tracking tags? in order for gifmakers to gain exposure on their gifsets, they will often use a tracking tag. in creating a user unique tag, they will follow it and then reblog things they are tagged in.

how do you create one? a 'tracked tag' is just a regular tag. common formats are: '#userx', '#tuserx' and '#userrx' or someone's username. they typically use the user's name (in place of where the Xs are on my above examples) but depending on whether or not someone already tracks that tag is whether or not you choose to use it yourself. once it's created, it's always good to follow the tag, simply because it makes it so much quicker to find in your tumblr search bar as a shortcut to quickly see if you've been tagged.

how do i determine whether that tag is taken/how do i know if someone uses that tag? to find out if a tag you wish to use is already in use, go to the search bar on tumblr, type in 'userx' and then click on the search that also has the hashtag beside it (you want to search the tag, not the words) and then it'll show whether or not it's being used. if there's no results and that tag is empty, great !! you can start using that yourself. if you search it up and posts are already there, you're best to check the dates on the post. if the dates are recent, someone is likely still actively using it. if the dates are old, that means the person who has used it has likely gone inactive and people stopped tagging them. if you try a few different variations and all of them are in use (this can happen with common names), often people will just use their username. there's no problem with it, but it's less common because people change their urls. some people even do '#user[username]', but you still need to account for changing of urls.

how do i get people to tag me? make sure you've got your tracked tag somewhere on your blog, and if you just decided to start tracking one, make a quick post letting people know ! then they'll know to tag you in things you like.

how do i tag a gifset? apart from single user tags, there are also source blog tags (i'll refer to them as SB tags). gifmakers will typically tag these source blogs depending on the content of the gif and what that blog says they will reblog, ie. #usermusic <- reblogs music content/musicians, #usergay <- reblogs lgbtq+ content from tv/film/celebs, etc. user tags are the '#userx' ones i've already talked about. users will tag people who share common interests or whoever asks to be tagged, (usually a discord thing) as they know that can be a guaranteed reblog. keeping in mind you now have space for 30 working tags, you can tag heaps of people and get more exposure !!

help - i've tagged a SB/user and they still haven't reblogged my work? there can be a few explanations for that. the first one and most likely one is that the blog runs on a queue. almost all SBs do so, in order to keep the blog constantly running. users do it for the same reason, but some will like your post once they've added it to their queue, to let you know they've seen it. it's less common for single users. the second possibility is you've tagged them in something they don't like/don't know/don't reblog. some users have content they don't want to be tagged in listed (often in 'about' pages, on their web theme or a mobile navi.) on their blogs, so you know. it's also often that people only reblog what they actually know; if you tag a user who is predominately sci-fi/fantasy media in your post about a rom-com, and you've never seen they reblog rom-coms or that rom-com before, then they chances of them reblogging your post are lower.

what's the point in tracking tags? exposure !! if you tag blogs that get more attention than yours, or blogs that are a well-known source in a particular fandom, and they reblog your work, they you will get more reblogs as a result.

Jeanette, first, I gotta say thanks for the tutorial on xkit rewritten it's really helped me out with RPing with people who just made their profile. My question is my partner is trying to use a custom theme, the username.tumblr.com kind as opposed to tumblr.com/username kind. Tumblr seems to have changed how this works and all the tutorials we could find were outdated or had next to nothing to do with the new Tumblr theme editor. She's put the theme into the editor and saved idk how many times but no matter what she does, the username.tumblr.com link doesn't show up next to her @ like it should, and doing that link in the address bar just takes me to her dash page. I was wondering if you could do a tutorial on that if at all possible. Thanks in advance! Stay amazing! :)

Hello! You're very welcome.

My best guess for what's happening with her theme is a couple switches in her blog settings -- click on the user icon in the top right, click settings, then click the relevant blog in the bottom right.

First, make sure that Enable custom theme is turned on. At some point Tumblr made it so all blogs only have the dashboard view by default, and custom themes need to be opted into.

Second, scroll down and make sure that Hide [URL] from people without an account is turned OFF.

Turning this setting on locks your blog into only being accessible from the dashboard -- which is annoying because the setting description gives no indication of this. Staff should really add a note here that says "this will disable your custom theme" because I know quite a few people have turned this on thinking it'll allow them more privacy, but instead it just messes up their theme.

Hopefully one of these two is the answer for your friend!

2. How did you hear about Sonic?

Technically I’m pretty sure I first heard of Sonic when I used to watch a little bit of Sonic Underground when I was in elementary school. It was either that or from Mario and Sonic at the 2010 Winter Olympic Games for the DS specifically, and I only had that to begin with because I was a Mario kid ALSKDKKS Funnily enough though I always played as Sonic even though I knew pretty much nothing about his games lol

4. Favorite male character(s)?

I think my top three have to be Silver, Sonic, and Metal, in no particular order because that order would probably change depending on what I’m fixated at the time lol I also really like Shadow too, just probably not as much as the other three any more. A funny thing is when I was first getting into the series, going through the games chronologically, even before I got up to 06 I just had a feeling Silver would end up being my favorite character based on vibes alone and he did!(at the time at least)

5. Favorite female character(s)?

I think Rouge might be my favorite, but I also reeeaaally love Tangle and Whisper, and Blaze is pretty great too! ALL THE GIRLS ARE SO GOOD it’s so hard to just pick a few!

OOOH NOW THIS IS A GOOD ONE there are so many vocal tracks that I love but I think my absolute favorite, as of recently, has to be One Way Dream. (Ignoring the fact that I was crying when I first heard it in Frontiers’ credits alskjdnfnsj) IT’S JUST SO GOOD it makes me so happy every time I listen to it! The music of the song itself just sounds so uplifting, and idk if this makes sense but it kind of reminds me of a combination of Endless Possibility and the general vibe of the Sonic Runners soundtrack, both of which I love so it makes sense that I would love their combination. AND THE LYRICS OH MY GOSH. The fact that the lyrics are a message from Sonic Team to the fans about how they’re dedicated to making the series even better than it already is because of how passionate the fan base is and how that passion is what drives them to keep going!! AAAAAAAAAA I LOVE IT SO MUCH (and another bonus is that I really enjoy singing and this song fits pretty well in my vocal range!)

I also reeeeaaaaaally love His World, but ESPECIALLY the Zebrahead cover, it’s just so fast paced and energetic it gets me super hyped. I also love Endless Possibility and pretty much all the boss fight themes in Frontiers (because of course I do alskdjfn). And special shout out to City Escape Act 1 from Generations, mostly because I just love the little section at the end

17. Favorite Sonic music track(s)?

OOOOH ANOTHER GOOD ONE there are literally so many I love I could probably spend hours listing all of them so I’ll try to limit myself lol. One that immediately stands out though is Rooftop Run (Day) from Unleashed (which you could probably guess from my url alakdkdnms) it’s another one of those songs that just makes me sooooooo happy to listen to because it’s so upbeat and energetic and AAAAAA I love it! And of course I also love the versions of the song used in Generations too. Spring Emotions from Sonic Runners is another one I absolutely ADORE I CAN’T EVEN FIND WORDS TO DESCRIBE IT IT’S JUST SO GOOD. I could probably say the same for a few other tracks in the Runners soundtrack but I’ll just leave it at the one for now lol. And I’m with you (The End boss theme) from Frontiers. OUGH THE EMOTIONS THAT SONG MAKES ME FEEL ARE INSANE. I don’t even know what to say, it just feels so climactic and leaves just the right emotional impact for a final boss, big Undertale vibes tbh (outside of just the gameplay lol).

A few others that stick out to me are Stardust Speedway and Metallic Madness from CD (especially the bad future versions of each), which I’m pretty sure I’m obligated to like as a Metal Sonic fan ALSKDJK, I honestly really like Windy Hill Zone 1 from Lost World and Sky Road from Team Sonic Racing more than I thought I would, and Solaris Phase 2 from 06 and Super Sonic vs. Perfect Dark Gaia from Unleashed are both AMAZING orchestral tracks for the final boss fights of their games.

This ended up getting so much longer than I expected, and sorry I didn’t really have too much to say for the first three questions and then proceeded to completely go off in the music department ALAKDJFND I would’ve finished this sooner but right when I was almost done writing it tumblr crashed and I lost all my progress so I had to start over aalksjfkd but this was really fun! Hello, I used to follow/chat with you on here a few years ago. At one point I wiped and deleted my tumblr because of mental health stuff, but I made a new one under a new url just to follow my favourite people and keep supporting them silently. I’ve been toying with the idea of being active on here again lately, I made a post but I don’t even have any followers so I don’t think anyone will see it. I feel quite silly. i’m pretty good! life got super busy and i’ve moved like 2 or 3 times since the active drarry squad days, plus having jobs and all that gets in the way of fun free time, but i still love and miss everyone here!

i really miss the community, making edits, writing and reading fanfics, and just having so much free time and fun with everyone on here who shared my interests 🥰 i miss the drarry discord chat too haha

i would love to come on here daily and wanted to make a comeback to do so, but with my job and stuff idk how everyone else finds the time 😅 i’m gonna try my best though.

i’m not sure if i have advice for reconnecting with people, but what i did was jump on, make a hello post, and post a few things for people to see and possibly share so people would see i was “back” if that makes sense. (i’m guessing that’s maybe how you found me for example haha)

i’d say that if you have a new account that friends don’t recognize you as, maybe make a post about what your old url was before the change or add it to your bio and old friends might me more likely to recognize you and pop in to say hey!

yeah so i've been thinking about this since the earliest days of blinkies.cafe. currently i have some obstacles.

manual work

at the moment, i personally have to add every new template to the generator. there's a bunch of manual work involved: choosing font, font colour, default text, text positioning, etc. it takes a bunch of trial and error to see what looks good.

when an artist submits a blinkie template, i want to make sure they're happy with the result. so it's a back-and-forth collaborative process. it takes a bit of technical knowledge on the part of the artist as well, to know what sorts of things i can & can't do.

i should streamline this process.

in the meantime, i'm already at capacity with adding templates >< i love doing it - it's like "comfort work" for me - but i also have a full-time job and chronic fatigue and chores and adhd, and a lot of the time i just don't have much time and/or energy to spare.

credits & licensing

if i'm gonna start accepting submissions from a bunch of different people, i need to draft like a "terms & conditions" statement for submitting.

basically to say, "by submitting your template, you agree to let me use it for X & release it under Y license. people will be able to make your blinkie say things, and i'm not responsible for what they say. here's how you'll be credited" kinda thing.

but idk much about art licensing and i know even less about writing legal text

also, different artists might have different opinions on how they want to be credited. the easiest thing for me to do would be to have the artist link pop up after you generate a blinkie and add it in the archive of sources. i'd say that in the terms & conditions, but ppl might want to be credited in a different way, and i can't have like a custom crediting method for each submission.

possible solution

one of my thousands of wips (thanks adhd) is a blinkie generator that runs entirely in the browser. if i can get around to polishing it up, i'll put it on blinkies.cafe, and you could embed it in your Neocities or even your tumblr theme.

basically you'd upload your template somewhere (tumblr, imgur, deviantart, whatever) as PNG frames, then you'd paste their URLs, select a font, type your text, and generate a blinkie!

it'd also give you a URL for your own personal blinkie maker, so you could post a link and other people could use it too ^^

this would be a lot easier for me to maintain because i wouldn't have to moderate or manually add templates at all!!

it'd also make it possible for anyone to run their own personal blinkie maker with their own templates, and host it on Tumblr or Neocities or anywhere else that lets you embed scripts :3

downsides to this are that A) browser-based gif generation might not work on all browsers or on older hardware, and B) personal templates wouldn't get the visibility of being on the main blinkies.cafe gallery.

KashimusPrime Beware Post - Re-Post:

Hi, it's me, kaythefloppa, or if you know me on Deviantart, QueenFluffy1994. Or at least.. I was QueenFluffy1994.

In June of this year, I made a callout post of Lion King fandom veteran, KashimusPrime, who was the admin behind her blog, Laughable-Lion-King-Art. Both Kashimus, and her blog, were involved in some pretty shady activity which piled upon itself more and more until it became a mess. So I spent my last few weeks at school compiling evidence of 20 screenshots and 5 working URLs of both the blog and Kashimus's misdeeds.

However, things changed, and not for the better after that.

Deviantart's staff, ruled that my call-out post was a violation of their policies against harassment. I.e, they believed I was attacking Kash and not... idk, exposing her for her toxic influence over the fandom that directly harmed a vast majority of people, minors especially included.

After battling this for some months and trying to find a loophole, my Deviantart account eventually got suspended for good, and my call-out post went down with it. The document remained intact, but sadly, my call-out went under the dust, and Kashimus has yet again, failed to act on her promise of improvement (as if that was fucking possible), so I'm reposting my call-out in the form of a Google Doc:

A basic TLDR: She's attacked minors over art styles, defends whitewashing, claims "blackwashing" exists, has micromanaged a LOT, and is a proshipper. In terms of that case, she has used topics like fascism and oppression of minorities in defense of her being a proshipping, which minimalizes the trauma and persecution that minorities and victims of cults, racism, fascism, queerphobia, and other methods of oppresion go through (she also said this as a 30 yr old white lady who more than likely is not a victim of either of the forms of oppression I listed, which is once again, tone deaf of her).

Her first response was her dodging the issue. Her second response was her half-apologizing for my accusations, but defending herself using both context, time, and flat-out lies, and also failing to address the other major factors I've used, whilst hiding comments of, and blocking people who criticized her and gave her advice on improvement. And as expected, she hasn't done good on her promise to improve granted that she's continuing to flex being a proshipper, and lumping together "antis" with fascists and cultists, acting like the oppressed, (wait, no, she never promised to stop being a proshitter, she defended that and continued on her merry way).

And that's not even going into how she got into contact with one of my abusers, who is a serial child-stalker, threatened my life when I blacklisted him, got access to my blacklist through him, called me a liar about of my abuse story and traumatic experience with the person she contacted, all of which happened to me when I was 14 years old, and then using all that parrot her racist, proship, insensitive hypocritical agenda that her blog has become a mouth-piece for thanks to her own incompetence, which is lowkey the reason I decided to bring this doc back from its grave.

i get the point they're trying to make but they're guilt trippy and ultimately don't end up solving the issue they think they're solving. (i'm assuming we're talking about the human rights posts that are all like "if you don't reblog this you're a monster!!" etc etc.) yes it's important to speak up about issues but by telling people they Have To Reblog This Or Else it just... scares people into supporting something without going through the critical thinking about it. at least that's how i see it. you can't truly support something if you don't understand wtf you're talking about. reblogging something like that for the sake of reblogging it is just... well it's performative.

why did you choose your url?

This is my 3rd url btw! (previously silly-daydream and myshvno). I wanted a more distinct url that isn’t just random or related strictly to sims, since I talk about other games from time to time. Laru-laro means “to play/playing” in Tagalog, which is pretty apt for this blog.
