talk shop chewsday: as the backbone of the fandom, your whims are expansive and yet also fickle. what motivates you to write for a character or a fandom? are there any fandoms/things you enjoy deeply that you'd never write fic for?
HEY! STOP THAT.
Also wdym my whims are very predictable and definitely stick to a schedule they've never run rampant ever, I have them under total control. I have never been captivated by something beyond my control that doesn't sound like me at all.
If that WERE me, well... it doesn't take much for a character to interest me: the ability to project bisexuality on to them, side character with a lil bit of trauma will typically do the trick. Characters that are putting up a front, they interest me, I wanna pull back their layers. All it takes for me to actually WRITE them is if I feel I can add or expand something to their character, or if there's dots I wish were more connected - for example with Gambit in Remember It, I really wanted to highlight the parallels between what was said in his Sinister Scenario & his sacrifice.
After I've written them once, grown comfortable with their voice, I'm more likely to write them again bc about 40% of what stops me writing any new character is fear I'm getting them wrongβ’οΈ.
However, not all media I love and think about will have fic written for it.
As you well know, Uncharted/Nathan Drake has a HUGE space in my heart, Elena and Nathan fit every tick box for a couple I should want to write about, but the narrative satisfies me enough (plus I don't wanna do research to get the artefacts and history right, I'm lazy).
I really enjoyed Challengers, I think there's plenty of room for exploration of the characters that would fit my style of writing, BUT again, the narrative satisfied me enough. I don't feel an itch to fill in the gaps myself. There was no immediate spark of 'I wanna see XYZ & I know exactly how it would look'.
It truthfully is, that you've gotta get me in the right spot at the right time for the whims to latch on - I said once that if I have an idea; a fic will be started and written within a flurry of a hazy 24 hour period. That remains true with fandoms/media I enjoy: If any idea is forming while I'm watching then likely there will be a fic to come - if there isn't an idea, then it's highly unlikely there ever will be π
