Hello, and welcome to 'Thoughts on the Try Guys streaming platform thing', by basically the only remaining try guys dedicated account on Tumblr (I think (Also ignore I haven't changed my pfp after the controversy))

So, as I've said before, I think the guys really managed this very well when you compare today's video with Watcher's announcement from a few weeks back. They seem to be using the new streaming service as a fancier Patreon that you can subscribe to if you like the content and want more of it, plus the exclusive vids or extra stuff, but it doesn't seem like it's meant to replace the channel and leave the people who can't afford it behind. They are offering a lot of new shows, many of which they teased on the youtube channel. The little pilots were used not only to give us a taste of what 2nd Try will be like but also introduced the new cast members! (I guess it's apropiate now to call Johnny Cakes, Kwesi, Marissa and rest as Try Guys too?). I'm so so happy to see them now as main talent; they helped carry the new era of the channel for the last year and a half and deserve the recognition.

Hooowever, I will say this.

I feel like the way they are handling this transition (and, let's be frank, the reaction from the audience) would not have been the same without the Watcher TV announcement and its fallout.

In case you don't know: Zach and Keith told us there would be a BIG announcement around this time of year way back in December. In early May (I think) watcher announced their own streaming service and literally everybody hated it. In mid-may, on a random Wednesday, the try guys channel just? don't post anything? and it seems like a very last minute decision to not post a video when they have posted videos every Wednesday for years? And now, a week later, they announce their own streaming service (with a video that references Watcher's announcement, so we know it was filmed after that was posted).

We can only guess, of course. Nothing is confirmed. But it really seems like they were going, if not the same, a very similar route that Watcher was. This is why I struggle to give them that much credit for offering a better deal that the Ghoul boys did, since I don't think they would've taken the same decisions a month ago. I want to think they are good guys who understand that most people can't afford to pay for this and they wouldn't put ALL their content behind a pay wall. But if you asked me a moth ago, I would have told you that Ryan and Shane were incapable of that too.

So I guess I'm not sure how to feel lol.

(Also I know many watcher fans are kinda mad that the try guys are getting a better response that Watcher did and also that Keith and Zach referenced the Watcher.tv vid because they think it was shady.

Calm down. They're literally friends. I bet they know what's okay to joke about and what isn't. I even bet they spoke about this in the last few weeks. Calm. Down)

I never watched James Somerton's shitty Killing Stalking video because I was trying to be good to myself and avoid something that I knew would make me very angry. In fact, I never watched any of his stuff because the fact that he made a video like that was enough to discount any thing he ever had to say (also I heard about the Celluloid Closet plagiarism).

But man, is the James Somerton discourse bringing a lot of Killing Stalking-related feelings back up for me. Because I'm mad; I'm still so mad. There are a suprising amount of people on social media who are saying they never watched any of his stuff except for the Killing Stalking video. I'm annoyed not just to find out that the vid had that sort of reach and influence, but also because Somerton's unmasking hasn't seemed to make people reasses the validity of the kind of thing he was saying. People are just now being like "hmm I think this guy might have Issues With Women" but that doesn't warrant any reflection on what exactly the motivation is of people who complain about women enjoying a niche webcomic? Because I don't actually believe you're concerned about the influence of some obscure piece of media when you advertise its existence to your large audience many of whom had not heard of it and would never have heard of it but for your transparent outrage porn video. It's rage bait and the target was women that are perceived as straight. A big channel has publicized the fact that they excised a section that endorsed the opinions in this video from their own because they became aware of Somerton's plagiarism and dishonesty (presumably; if it was actually because they recognized his views were coming from a sexist place I would welcome a clarification). And you know, I don't think that's a good look actually. That you needed to be told he was a bad person and couldn't idependently put together that the misogynist man was saying misogynist things.

The comic ended years ago and the fandom has gone mostly quiet, but to this day people are still the peddling the"fujoshi/stupid teenage girls who don't know what's good for them are shipping these characters because they are too braindead to realize it's not a romance; it's a horror, two things I believe are mutually exclusive. I am smarter than all of these cringe degenerates" bullshit. It's in the comments of the hbomberguy video even; one comment was such a gross misrepresentation of the series that my friend needed to talk me down from getting into a pointless youtube comments argument (bless him) because these people are officially making me lose my marbles.

This narrative is full of shit, it's demonstrably not fucking true. You can go on the artist's twitter right now and its full of her retweeting shippy fanart of that pairing readers were apparently never intended to ship.

(I don't think Koogi knows or cares about James Somerton; she just reblogs the works of fans who tag her. This made me laugh though).

Now this is all speculation because he died decades before social media existed, but I think if Nabokov was alive today his twitter would not be full of Humbert Humbert x Dolores Haze fanart. And yet, I have unironically seen people compare shipping Sangwoo and Bum in Killing Stalking with the misreading of Lolita as a precocious sexual temptress more than once.

And this isn't me saying that Killing Stalking is the disgusting"pro-sexualized abuse" comic that tumblr purity police used to characterize it as either. One of these days I'm going to go truly bonkers and end up banging pots and pans on the street corner, yelling at random innocent passerbys about how stories about romantic and sexual relationships are not required to be Hallmark movies. You can make art about the negative, dark, and troubling parts of these feelings and relationships without creating a pat morality tale. You don't need to approach media analysis like your 7th grade teacher has assigned you an essay on explaining what a novel's "message" is.

Nobody, not the author and not the fans, genuinely thinks that Sangwoo and Bum have a healthy or aspirational relationship. This hypothetical person that does not understand the relationship is toxic doesn't exist. Because girls and women, even the ones having cringey fandom fun on tiktok or whatever, are not so stupid and naive that they are unware that breaking someone's legs and locking them in a muder basement is bad. The type of concern troll rhetoric Somerton employed in his video is directed near exclusively at women interested in men and there's a reason for this. Women are not responsible for abuse that men do to them; nobody is responsible for their partner abusing them. If I never saw people spit this bullshit again it would be too soon.

Hi! I’ve been a big fan of your blog for a while now. Keep doing what you’re doing! I always had a sort of superficial interest in vampires and werewolves but you’ve opened my eyes to how interesting (and sometimes wacky) real folklore is. I was wondering if you had any documentary recommendations? Or any good shows dealing with folklore?

Firstly, thank you so much for the kind words! I'm immensely touched that you've become interested in these things because of my blog and work. That means the world to me. That's my mission, really. (Well, that and my true life's purpose of telling my stories/my fiction, particularly Wulfgard)

I deeply wish I could say I knew of any, but tragically, I honestly don't. I've tried a lot of documentaries, shows, and even various podcasts, but I've never found any that really suit me. Sooner or later, I always hear someone spout some kind of "facts" that were clearly very poorly-researched or just generally not properly checked at all. Documentaries, you'd think, would be very trustworthy, especially given some of the institutions that create them - and I'm not saying they all aren't, either! - but you desperately need to double-check even the information they give you. It's only good research to take nothing at face value.

So... sorry, but I really don't know. I've had on my own backburner for ages now making a series of YouTube videos and/or a podcast where I discuss folklore (especially werewolves, obviously), but I haven't ever had time so far. I have had my research featured on a few YouTube channels, but... I don't really want to link any of the vids because they also contain bad information, unfortunately.

I know I'm probably just too picky, and even bad shows have at least a few scraps of good information, if you check them thoroughly enough. I've become very jaded to this kind of thing, having been exposed to so much of it for so long. If anyone reading this has any recs, please share them in the replies!

I want to talk about 'The Bad Batch' Animation!!!

So we all know that TBB has some of the most beautiful animation SW has ever given us, but there were a few scenes in 2.15 and 2.16 that just really stood out to me as the animators upping their game and giving us something extra special for the finale.

*I apparently can't make gifs small enough to put on tumblr without GREATLY reducing the quality/size, so they got turned into vids (no audio) and as I can only upload one vid per post, I'm going to just put them all together (there are 4 total) in one vid instead of in a separate reblogs*

Scene 1 is at the beginning of 2.15 when Echo goes to sit down:

There is a LOT more movement for Echo here than we normally see from our characters. You can tell that this is more 3D rendered than what we normally get, and with more of the body, too - not just head/arms/shoulders or them walking.

It's not like we haven't seen characters move around before and interact with the environment (i.e. the chair), but this just shows so much more "moving within the space" than we normally get, and more rotation from the character, too. It almost makes it feel more real than the animation has looked before.

Scene 2 is the hallway fight later in the ep:

I love how the camera moves through the space with Tech and then over the Stormy's shoulder around the corner. And then instead of cutting to a different shot, it continues through the hallway as Hunter uses the trooper as a human shield, Tech coming back into the shot as they keep moving. It's like one of those awesome continuous shots you see in big Hollywood action movies! Once again, there's so much movement and 3D rendering going on making the scene feel more real!

Scene 3 is a brief panning wide shot of the hangar bay:

It's short and sweet, but this shot shows SO MUCH space and gives us a 3D view of the shuttles, along with the troopers walking around! Just think about how they had to create this entire room and render it so we can see it from every angle! It's glorious!

Scene 4 is Omega's first person POV in 2.16 as she's carried to and inside the Marauder:

My favorite example of the batch (pun intended haha)! Now it's not just one character or one hallway or one room, but an EXTERIOR shot which includes multiple moving figures, a closeup view of the Marauder (along with the motion of the ramp coming down), AND the interior of the ship as well!!!! You can even see when Wrecker moves the chair before going down the corridor at the end of the clip! And ALL OF THIS in different and moving angles because we're looking through the eyes of someone who's being carried and her head is most likely lolling. Simply incredible!!

Seeing how the general aesthetic of the show is 3D elements moving in front of largely 2D backdrops, having these four scenes show fully realized 3D settings and more movement from the characters was an absolute delight! They really pulled out all the stops for this finale and I cannot WAIT to see what they have in store for us in Season 3!!!

soo, this is not the first time I'm getting into a fandom that's over a decade old (i seem to have a knack for it) and it's always so exciting, it almost makes me feel like an archaeologist or detective piecing together the history of an ancient civilization

well, okay, back on track:

after those initial videos i mostly watched their post 2019 joined content which turned out to be a great thing because a) there isn't that much of it, so it felt very approachable b) it helped immensely in getting to know their current selves (this probably sounds weird, what i mean is that they have changed over the course of the years (even beyond the obvious 'they are out and more true to themselves than ever before') and it was good to get to know the status quo before diving into the past) c) it's simply great entertainment

i then went on a Dan's Long Videos™️ spree, watched daily dystopia and phil's newer videos and finally gave into the urge to take a look at the tumblr fandom, which I'd been avoiding on purpose up until then because honestly, i was scared of what it would be like. i was quite pleasantly surprised at how chill is here (I won't lie though, there were a few things that almost activated my fight-or-flight reflex because they sounded a bit too similar to that fandom, but overall i have come to the conclusion that i do like it here).

anyways, at that point i would've felt pretty lost facing such a giant mountain of lore and videos if it wasn't for dan and phil and phannies being so goddamn nostalgic. just by hanging around here and watching their videos you get a pretty good idea of what is important, be it a rough timeline of what happened when and where or what the most iconic and best videos are.

i had so much fun going through the pinofs, the crafting channel, their more or less desastrous attempts at baking, the og google feud, random gaming channel vids from golf to the impossible quiz and i could go on, it is honestly addicting. it's also quite dangerous because there is always more to watch and i know that i have barely scratched the surface.

also, it's really interesting to go back to the first videos I've watched and to see how much my perspective and understanding of them has changed in that short amount of time

by now I've dialled down the binging a little bit and am just jumping from one recommendation to the next, but i do (possibly ignorantly) feel like i have the most important things covered and am now simply enjoying the ride.

anon you seem to have taken a pretty good approach. starting with the post-2019 joint content is definitely a lot easier than watching the mountain of joint content from before that. eventually you'll probably catch up on everything but in the meantime as long as you've got most of the important videos i think you'll be fine in the fandom.

i do think there's still some demon phannie tendencies here on tumblr (i include myself in that) but i think generally we do try to keep it respectful, and also we try to kind of keep it away from them and just have our demon discussions in our safe little pocket of the internet.

yeah you've truly come here at a great time in terms of nostalgia. i mean the roblox video alone is just pure nostalgia content and probably helped you get to know the lore of the iconic london apartment. and generally we're all just really sappy about them and their relationship so old vidoes and gifs are always circling around.

you just made me do a deep dive into all of their channels to remember what videos they even have and i think i have a good selection of recommendations in case you haven't watched them:

the photo booth challenge (dan's channel), and the wardrobe (phil's channel), both iconic fan favorites

all of the day in the life videos (manchester, london, festive, japan, australia), they're not big on vlogging so it's nice to get the occasional little slices of their domestic life

dan's internet support group series, not too big of a series but very dan

dan's diss track, also very iconic

giving the people what they want

all of the sims videos (it's a lot, i know, but it's great to watch if you're ever bored)

overcooked, they played it a couple times on live streams and there's just something about them without any editing that's very fun to watch

keep talking and nobody explodes

the top dan memes videos, great to catch up on some lore

there's a lot more probably but these are the ones i can think of right now.

there's also a lot of lore hidden in all the live things they did, which there is a lot of cause they each used to to weekly live streams, they had a weekly radio show, and then the lockdown stereo shows. i would recommend just looking up some compilations of those, they usually contain a lot of the important lore moments. the stereo shows are quite fun to listen to as podcasts, so i would recommend doing that. also because it's a lot more recent than their old live streams it's a lot more relevant.

I'm kinda embarrassed to admit that I haven't stopped thinking about the Dan & Alec double greeting idea since I first brought it up.. 😅 I've practically fallen in love with it and I really want to see someone make it happen one day~! Here's some more ideas my brain popped out:

The buyer asks if the two have ever heard of or watched Sam O'Nella (weird starter, I know). I like to think Dan knows the guy pretty well and has enjoyed watching his videos since he was 14 (he and his friends probably make silly inside jokes or quote random stuff from his videos all the time); he'll probably have to explain to Alec who he is and maybe recommend some vids to him since they are equally very hilarious & informative. [ In case you've never seen this youtuber before here are some out of context clips to give you an idea of what his content is like - HERE and HERE ]

2nd Part to #1, the buyer also asks if they watch Casual Geographic (Love this guy, highly recommend checking out his channel if you haven't yet) - I guess Alec would probably be *slightly* more familiar with this guy (maybe stumbling upon a video/short of his once or twice on the rare occasions he scrolls through youtube), as for Dan, yeah he watches a lot of his vids too.

2nd Option, the buyer asks Dan for more info on his sister, i.e. what she's like, what are her hobbies/interests, is she older or younger, etc. (until we get confirmation otherwise, I'm kinda latching onto the headcanon of him and Frannie being fraternal twins) They also ask Alec if he has any siblings of his own (I highly doubt he does but it would be nice to get a confirmation either way). Afterwards, the two will end the greeting with buyer's song request, the chorus of Rambley Review by RecD ft. OtterBoyVA (or maybe the whole first verse & stuff together with the chorus if there's enough time)

3rd Option, in regards to the fear factor challenge in S1, the buyer asks the two where their fears originated from. Not sure what to say for Alec's part when they discuss it but I do picture Dan's story going something like this - "I think I was around 9 or 10. It was late autumn and I was looking for a coat to put on so I could go with mom & Frannie somewhere. Once the coat was on, I started to feel this... thing tickling my upper arm down by my elbow. I brushed it off at first, but then it started to make its way up to my shoulder and into my neck. Next thing I knew this big, lanky, brown house spider was coming out of the collar and crawling down my arm! After it was *nesting* inside the sleeve of my coat!" ... "Yikes." was all Alec could say. 😆 "Yeahhh... I was never the biggest fan of spiders tbh, but that day only amplified my distaste." He wraps his arms around himself as he shudders, "I couldn't wear jackets and coats for MONTHS after that. No matter how cold it got. 😖" - If there's still time in the video left after reliving their personal traumas, the boys will finish it off by singing the buyer's requested song. "Tom's Diner" by DNA & Suzanne Vega, just the first verse.

i hadn't heard of Sam O'Nella before! in fact, my first thought was that you were talking about Sal Manella from Ace Attorney, which would have been an even weirder starting point. the guy's art style does look kind of familiar, though. i could definitely see Dan and Alec bonding over edutainment content like this!

full agree that people should ask contestants more about their potential siblings in general. sibling dynamics are a really interesting lens through which to view characters... even if i always forget to give my own OCs siblings 😅 do you think either Alec or Dan would be familiar with what Indigo Park is? I've never understood how someone becomes a BNF. Nor have I ever known the names of alleged BNF when people mention them to me. I feel like my small circle of fandom friends is blessedly unconcerned with 'big names' in any sense and thus I've been able to avoid this whole facet of fandom. So I'm honestly sort of confused by the concept. Do these fanfic writers have their own fandom? Do people write fic of their fic or something? What does 'BNF' even mean beyond 'wrote a well-known fic'?

That's it. That's all it means.

In a given fandom context (specific fandom, platform, decade), BNFdom can come from different things.

In ye olden days, it often meant the big con runners. You'd know who these people were because they'd make the opening remarks at cons and that kind of thing.

The modern equivalent would be running AO3, but most people have no idea who's doing that, and many individual OTW staff and volunteers only have tiny roles, so the majority of OTW-adjacent people don't become BNFs from that.

In the LJ era and to a degree on mailing lists and usenet before it, most BNFs were famous because they wrote a lot of good, long fic. OTWs founders are in this category. (But, of course, as fandom gets ever larger, a fic-famous BNF's profile will lower, especially if they don't get into the newest, hottest thing and write a bunch of new fic.)

The big name reccer was a thing on LJ too: those people with the really extensive, well-curated recs lists and bookmarks that served as an entry point to some juggernaut ship like McShep.

People have always gotten big for commentary too, but it's a lot harder and less common, and most people who wrote famous "Why fandom" or "Why slash" essays were also already known for a con or for fic or something. Many fic-famous LJ era BNFs really cemented their BNFdom by having lots of interesting non-fic posts that inspired others to chat in the comments section.

And then in the modern day, you have the influencer BNF. Maybe they're trying to be this, or maybe it's just a product of tumblr/twitter/etc. These are the people who post a lot of rants or commentary or shitposts or whatever is popular on that platform, and they have a lot of people who look to them for opinions. On tumblr, in practice, these are mostly "discourse blogs", whether they self-apply that term or not.

The loudest, funniest people on Fandom_Wank back in the day might have been a bit like this too, though many of them were also known for other things already. Basically, stupid fandom drama makes a lot of noise and attracts a lot of eyeballs. It's probably the easiest way to get noticed after writing a pile of iddy fic for a juggernaut ship.

Do people write fic of BNFs' fic? Sure, sometimes, especially if they're known for an iconic AU. People copy their fanon often too. (Curse the ones who spread fanon characterization I dislike!) But I wouldn't say this is a defining characteristic. It's usually more like the fic gets them noticed by many, and then they also have active social media that people go interact with and lurk on. Maybe they have a podcast like /Report that further makes them known as an individual, not just the screen name at the top of today's leisure reading.

People often have distorted views of a BNF just like they do of a youtuber, but they have to have some idea of a version of their personality for the person to be treated as a z-list internet celebrity. If there's no concept of them as a discrete individual, this kind of behavior doesn't grow up around them.

Zine era BNFs were often zine editors. Plenty of them are still around, but you don't often find people acting like they're BNFs online now because the thing that made them famous is invisible to most fans now and they don't tend to be hugely publicly active on social media anyone's going to find them on.

Kandy Fong, inventor of fannish vidding, is still around. She even told me a funny story about being introduced as "the Kandy Fong" by some teenage relative to some wide-eyed fan friend at an offline gathering. But she's not getting in twitter slapfights, so I'd say the average current fan isn't terribly aware of her as an individual.

IT IS, i have honestly considered making a daniel vid to it about the way he's just kinda flirting/fighting with everyone he meets lmao. i think my problem with these ideas is always that i want to parallel the fighting with the dancing and daniel doesn't dance enough in CK. LET HIM DANCE

okay, story time about dayman: obviously, i'm a big always sunny fan, and i just found that cover of the song at some point and put it on my "possible vidsongs" playlist, thinking it would probably make a pretty funny vid for some sort of stupid superhero movie or something, idk. i just really badly wanted to find the right fandom for it, but i couldn't think of a good one at the time, so it kind of lay dormant for a while.

so when i got into CK and i went through my playlist to see if any songs might fit, obviously that one jumped out to me immediately. like, the absolute perfection of actually stumbling into a karate fandom when i already had this song in mind? this kinda shit doesn't happen every day. that's some kind of fate. i had to do it.

and then i was like, hmmm, this song is pretty short. who is the master of karate and friendship for everyone? am i gonna make a johnny vid, or a daniel vid?? i kinda want both? and then the whole concept of having the break in the middle with johnny sort of taking over the vid and rewinding it to make his own version, which, you know, is basically what cobra kai (the show) is, it all kind of hit me at once.

doing the actual rewind effect was a huge pain in the ass, and i had to listen to a lot of scrambly stock sound effects on youtube, which were all too short so i had to edit several of them together. awful, would not recommend.

as far as clip choices - obviously i just collected everything that was karate fighting/training and tried to parallel the two sections of daniel and johnny doing their thing as much as possible. the idea to create a little story arc of them starting to work together in the end, with kreese and silver becoming the nightman, was also pretty much there from the start.

my favorite section in the vid (tho it was my least favorite to make, the editing was a huge pain) is definitely the one where they make the transition from fighting each other to fighting together - what i'm going for there is, basically, a fight that goes from being combative to being fun (and, let's face it, a little horny) and then to go into the mutual training sessions from season 4 (where it gets a lot horny). i really like how it came out!

The softwares DO NOT lag when the canvas is big! Ugh, means I can fatten up the size of my pictures easily. But that's surely eats up the storage, and I found out last minute that ipad doesn't have sd slots, unless you have to buy an adapter. Which is the main lack in this stuff. Everything costs. You want to sneeze while holding the tablet? You can't till u buy a permit.

So yeah, my favourite drawing program there, Clip Studio Paint, is can only used by annual/ monthly subscription licence, while its one-time licences is only for windows, means having to by different licences for different systems. So I'm using the free month trail to get by for now, so be sure to read carefully which on is which before purchasing. ProCreate is a one time purchase, tho. And it has TIME LAPS VIDS idk why I go crazy but I love the fact that I can record my art with no effort or pause (cuz I can never sit 1 hr continuously, honestly), and you can see my horribly-edited vid practices on tiktok or insta as @MadFantasy_ . But as we were saying, they even more double storage intake hehe. Love how ridiculously fancy the lines smoothing on it, I can act up as a calligrapher easy and I'm a joke at it! Also I'm thinking of trying Craft Pro as well, is a one time purchase too. Will go through it in details when I cover all the corners cx

yes, english :3. it's funny my country is literally known for its diversity & endless languages (and it flexes about it too lmao) but in reality does nothing to help in/encourage learning other languages. hindi & eng are the only languages schools teach & 3rd one depends on what state you live in. minority languages are not even in options.

I do in fact love the scary Courser man, I love him a lot and always love to see him in more things. Canon definitely dropped the ball on him -- the hints we got were pretty great, but that was pretty much it.

There are very sadly few fics, as I’m sure you know, but the body electric is one of my favorites, and it has a ton of great stuff on Coursers in general. I mean pretty much everything by @nomette is fantastic, and maybe they will also have some suggestions to add on?

As for just thoughts/headcanons in general (and given how little we know, almost everything is a headcanon with that guy).....there is evidence that he’s both afraid of heights and bugs. I love that. It’s only shown in like, little bits of dialogue, but I love the seemingly mundane fears that this otherwise unshakable guy has -- fears that he, of course, will try so hard to never let show, because Coursers aren’t afraid.

He’s got such a ridiculously dry sense of humor. Something, again, vaguely hinted at, but the exchange of, “Jesus, that’s a mouthful.” “Then talk fast, ma’am.” comes to mind. Most of the time it’s suppressed, but there are some comments that he just genuinely doesn’t register as something like a joke, which tends to make it even funnier.

The guy is ridiculously loyal. To the Institute, obviously, but to the Survivor by extension, and if it’s someone that treats him like something more than a weapon, there’s a potential for that loyalty to shift if theirs does.It’s still not going to be an easy feat. The Institute is literally everything he has, they made him, they decide to keep him alive, keeping the interests of the Institute safe is the entire reason for his existence. Like, tbh, I think it would be really hard to get him to side with anyone who decided to destroy the Institute without them being undercover and earning his trust for a very long time. The simplest way to manage it is to send him away before sabotaging everything, because he can’t go down with the ship if he isn’t on the ship.Then, of course, it’d be a matter of convincing him that he’s still someone without the Institute, that he hasn’t lost all purpose in life, but y’know, it’s complicated.

In a less game-supported train of thought, he does not like most dogs. They feel too uncontrolled, they drool too much, they just kind of go everywhere.On the flip side, he finds that he really appreciates cats.

Like any gen-three, he loves Fancy Lads. But he hates that they get powder all over his coat. They leave evidence.

He’s the only Courser who wears sunglasses constantly. He thinks his eyes being so blue takes away some of the intimidation factor, and sunglasses are the perfect way to hide any stray emotions that might slip through for a second.

It’s my own personal fic headcanon, but I think he was the Courser (and the only Courser) they sent to take out the Switchboard.They didn’t need more than the one with a small battalion of gen-twos.

Part of the reason he loves it when you agree not to tell the Institute about Acadia (which is just a whole huge thing on its own) is because he remembers Chase. Not very well, but he remembers the hushed whispers that went around the synths and, to some extent, the Coursers, when she escaped.He remembers a very small part of him hoping they never found her.

Related, X6 does believe in his job. He does understand the synth’s fear of reclamation, because he understands the fear of that chair all too well himself, but he also thinks that the surface is the actual worst thing that can happen to someone. Bringing the synths back might mean they get reset, but it also saves them from facing a fate worse than death in the Commonwealth.But it’s different with Coursers.When Coursers escape, a very small part of him -- a part he tries not to consciously acknowledge -- is rooting for them. Coursers can survive the surface, whatever it throws at them, and as hellish as it may be up there, they won’t fall victim to a simple raider gang or an angry radstag. Harkness was before his time, something that is only discussed now in the middle of the night patrols, in hushed tones, spoken like a myth (and for all they know, it might be). Chase was more recent. Neither were caught.They know neither were caught, because if they had been, they know it would have been made into a huge display, a blinding example of the Institute’s control.And X6 hopes, without every acknowledging that he hopes, they never will be.
