Alchemy of Souls rambles
Spoiler for part 1 of the show if yall haven't watched but I need to vent some disorganized thoughts because I haven't stopped thinking about it for the whole day.
Jang Uk and Mudeok form a bond out of desperation early in the show, that's how their whole relationship begins. What I love about it though is that from the getgo of the establishment of this relationship, it's almost like they have a secret agreement to be completely themselves around each other. They don't have to. Just because they depend on each other doesn't mean that they have to be truthful or vulnerable with each other. And yet they consistently show their vulnerabilities to the other, open from the beginning, hurt and bleeding in front of one another and patching each other up that speaks to a trust between them that neither of them acknowledge out loud for a while. It's just so beautiful.
I love that Jang Uk is like.. a real person. They could have made him out to be this perfect guy who charms the assassin out of her life of violence, but he's nothing like that. He's a bit spoiled, a picky eater, can be petty and even lash out at times when he's upset. He's also confident in his own charms and funny and self-assured in the way that he doesn't care what many think of him, or at least acts like he doesn't. He's unafraid to get into a massive amount of trouble for the people he cares about and may seem childish at times, but also has a sense of responsibility that continues to grow throughout the show until his ultimate sacrifice of the energy he'd worked so hard to cultivate to the ice stone, all for the protection of Mudeok, his friends, and the greater good. He's an amazing character, protagonist, and male lead, and I love seeing all his facets.
All the characters are really fleshed out and as a writer, I am DROOLING at how they managed to represent the desires and motivations of each character and interwove it with the narrative. I started out disliking Park Jin for always being so harsh with Uk, but then we find out why, and really how desperate he is to protect Jang Uk in what he thinks is the only way, especially being in a position of great authority - balancing his love of Uk, his desire to keep him safe, and his duties to the people of Daeho. Just lovely.
I have a lot more thoughts but it feels good to get that down. I have to go study freaking math BUT I SHALL RETURN!

Girl, I'm so sorry, but if you he really was gonna tell her he loved her before Argyle interrupted them, I would not want somebody to say to me
"I guess, I just, I don't know, I guess I just wanted to say that I love you."
You guess you love me? What, you don't know? Be sure then come back to me.

"Cassian's face is a brittle thing, no person's eyes should shine as painfully tearful as his. Kino offers his hand and Cassian - bright as the sun, steady as a roc, fluid as water Cassian - accepts it with shaking fingers. He tells Kino everything."
Art for we're spitting off the edge of the world by Xenomorphic for the 2024 Star Wars Big Bang @swbigbang. It is an amazing Canon Divergence Fix-it fic from one of the most memorable moments of Andor onwards, with beautiful prose that fits the mood of the show so so well and will make you feel just as deeply for these characters. Please give it a read and heap some love on my team's amazing and hardworking author, they were such a delight to work with!❤️

Just finished The Penguin and holy shit that has got to be one of the best shows i have seen in a long while. While i did cringe at some of the music choices and wish they had gone with some closer to the soundtracks to the show i can say without a doubt that it has to be one of my favourite soundtracks for a tv show. It fits so perfectly with what The Batman had already set up with its score and perfectly matches the genre vibe of Oswald. It reminds me of Gothams Oswald and his soundtracks. I wish the show was longer but i think it did everything it needed to do in its 8 episodes. Everything about it was so beautiful, obviously they didn’t have the same budget at the movie but i can tell they did everything to make it match in its own way. Im glad we got a glimpse of what Arkam is like in this version and how utterly brutal it really is, how a place that is supposed to somehow heal or help people becomes such a horrific and brutal hell for whoever believes they one day may be free of it. Sophia was so well written, every scene she was in was perfect (except for that situationship between her and her therapist, wasn’t a huge fan at all) all of her outfits suited her and what she was currently planning or doing. I hope we get more about her and her now second time in arkam. Now where do i start with Oswald, he is such a horrible person but i really can’t help but absolutely love and adore his character. Like he honestly sucks and deserves everything that happened to him but I can’t help but somewhat route for him (except for what he did in episode 8, fuck him for that). It was really interesting to get a proper background on him and how he grew up to be who is was in the series, it really humanized him and gave a proper reason to why he does what he does. Everything about him on the outside was so pompous and fake and the way he acted outside of is normally somewhat controlled temperament really shone a light on how much of a lying narcissist he is and how much he really doesn’t care what happens as long as he remains on top and in power. He is such a horrible person and i love him for that. Now i was honestly kinda sceptical about Victor at the beginning, I didn’t want the show to become fully focused on him as a sidekick to Os and all the wacky shit they get up to. Im very glad it didn’t do that and instead we got a well written character that is struggling after losing everything he cares about and then trying his best to prove himself to some random guy that threatened him and tried to kill him before taking him under his wing. We got to see a character struggle with the morally grey and most of the time straight up illegal and horrible things he’s been told to do but does them anyways because he either wants to prove himself or just survive. He became so close to Oswald and looked up to him as a guide and as close to family as he could get by the end. So many amazing complex and wonderful characters where created and expanded upon in this show. I hope we get more shows like this and i am very excited to see where this version of Batman goes. Anyways im gonna go cry and see if i can find any good fanfics about it.

dana terrace knows how fandoms work. she knows if you show ppl even the barest hint of an m/f couple, especially one involving an angsty white boy, ppl will jump on that shit like rabid dogs and itll completely overshadow whatever queer rep you want ppl to actually pay attention to. that’s why she introduced hunter the way she did. first they have an episode where luz gets kissed by a girl and it’s made clear to the audience that they’re on track to be each others love interests. and only then does she introduce hunter’s angsty blond YA love interest looking ass.
and even then they tried SUPER hard to hammer in how much hunter is NOT luz’s love interest. they make luz lean in as if she was going to kiss him and then smack him to show that she isn’t going to. and then they do that thing where hunter licks luz’s hand and luz wipes it on his face. which is something that has been memed to death with siblings. just so the audience immediately understands what kind of dynamic the show wants these two to have. if they skipped any of these steps they were worried the fandom would see luz have a close relationship with a conventionally attractive white boy and start foaming at the mouth for this ship to replace lumity. maybe if disney saw a boy and a girl who aren’t immediately sibling coded they’d also start foaming at the mouth for it to replace lumity. so the crew had to play it safe.
anyway my point is i hope the crew also knows what they’re doing with the huntlow ship. idk what they’re setting up but if the huntlow ship gets together and it’s not wedged between a full 10 minute clip of the raeda wedding and a full 10 minute clip of a sappy slice of life lumity date then every toh related tag is going to be INSUFFERABLE and i hope dana knows it.
#toh#the owl house#luz noceda#lumity#hunter noceda#hunter toh#huntlow#shipping#dana terrace#granted i dont see how the tags wouldnt be insufferable either way#if they get together and its not immediately overshadowed by lumity or raeda the tags are going to be filled with huntlow shippers#completely ignoring the beautifully queer romances the crew fought tooth and nail to get in favor of an easy m/f ship anyone could have done#if they do the rejection idea ppl have been bouncing around the tags are going to still be filled with huntlow shippers#who have done a 180 on their opinion on willow bc they only ever cared about her as a decoration for hunter#saying the most vile and likely sexist and racist stuff about this very lovable character for daring to reject their pet white boi#if they just leave it ambiguous then both the huntlow likers AND the huntlow dislikers are going to start chomping at the bit#and rant about how it was super badly written and how it either didnt make sense that they didnt get together#or how it didnt make sense that willow didnt outright reject him#and basically overshadow everything else that happens in the show#this is the least insufferable option but i hope they go for the second one bc in story i think it would be the best for the characters#anyway this isnt to say in these options all of this annoying whining and circlejerking will be by the same people#just different groups of people who will be annoying under different circumstances#but no matter the circumstance there will at least be one annoying group#a worthy price for participating in fandom i suppose

I genuinely believe Echo is the best content Marvel has released in years. It blows right past all of the other recent projects and it’s a shame more people aren’t watching it

Names have a massive significance for demons in Christianity - they hold power, and if you can name something you therefore have power over it. This is why priests ask for the demon's name during an exorcism - if the demon gives its name it is weakened. When the demons fell, God stripped them of their angelic names.
So when Crowley immediately tells Aziraphale, an angel, someone who should be his enemy, his name, it's not just him being friendly. It's him putting his faith in somebody he just met, saying "I trust you to know my name and not to use it against me." It shows how different he is from the other demons.
And when he changes his name to Crowley, he's rejecting the name Hell gave him. He's breaking away from who he was meant to be. He's the demon with an imagination and he's using it to forge his own path. And not only that, he immediately tells Aziraphale his new name. He's proving time and time again that he trusts his angel, that he would so willingly give him that kind of power. He's making himself vulnerable without thought.
And then again, during the church scene, when he hasn't spoken to Aziraphale for a century, he tells him his new name. He changes his name once more, moving even further away from the other demons. He takes a first name, something so fundimentally human, and still, even after such a long disagreement, he trusts Aziraphale with this vulnerability. This is the scene where Aziraphale falls in love with him. He is willing not only to enter a church for his angel and risk his life over and over, but to tell him time after time the one thing that could easily destroy him.
Crowley's love isn't shown just by saving Aziraphale from being discorporated. It's the smaller things, like telling him his name without ever doubting it. It's ineffable.

I'm only on episode 7 but I hope they don't change the impeccable dynamic of the main trio
Cao Guangyan and Pu Yiyong really hit the impeccable spot of "loving to hate you" and "eternally bickering but caring very deeply when it comes to the important things".
Chen Chuying also hits the fine line of capable to a degree but chaotic enough that she would start to join the shenanigans. Adult enough to actually try to keep Pu Yiyong (and later - delightfully so - Cao Guangyan) out of trouble but not enough a stickler to the law to not understand where they are coming from. Definitely not acting ethically but they can treat Pu Yiyong complaining that she was his first kiss as hilarious without it being weird in the overall context.
Another underrated part: both parents clearly started from a point of thinking that their sons being in a romantic relationship might be cute to really just shaking their heads over both of them just being weird all over the place

this scene is just so incredible to me the contrast from juwon's character at the beginning of the series being unwilling to get dirty...i mean the guy was visibly upset about getting dirt on his shoes... to now going against everything he stood for
Tumblr media
following the law strictly until he becomes partners with dongsik and learns that sometimes in order to get justice the law must be broken
and looking back at the change in juwon since this conversation in episode 5
"ds: how far are you willing to go to make things right? we’ve been living without a problem for the past twenty years. what are you willing to do to catch us? are you willing to throw away the law and principle that you abide by so much?"
"jw: why would I do that?"
juwon really threw all of that away starting with illegally recording his dad's confession.
and it's also very reflective of his change in attitude, from not wanting to be friends or close with anyone else at the station, and not seeing the point of emotional connections to literally getting blood on his hands for dongsik...
