ClosureAU! (Zeus and Eurylochus)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The AU finally has a name, it's called Closure for the lyrics of "keep your friends close" when Aeolus says: 'Now they wanna get the bag open so they can have closure' 🙏
context of the "I will kill Odysseus"
Basically Zeus made a "deal" with Eurylochus, in which Zeus would take Odysseus from Calypso's island and taking him back to his home in exchange for Eurylochus staying with him on Olympus
Zeus often manipulates Eurylochus by telling him that if he thinks of leaving Odysseus would have to go back to Calypso, Eurylochus doesn't want that to happen, he made the deal bc he thought that for once in his life he could do something good for his captain/brother in law and Zeus takes advantage of his weakness for Odysseus

Imagine Zeus calling Athena to ask why she's been avoiding him and he's like "I can tell when you're upset, you can talk to me!" and she shoots back with a "You clearly didn't care enough that day though."
And he's all like "What did you say?", because he's genuinely confused on what exactly she meant. At this point, the games were mostly behind him. Odysseus was released from Ogygia, so why would Athena still upset? She already paid the price, so there was no need to still be upset. He knows that she knows better now.
Athena takes his tone wrong, that this is him getting angry again and she starts freaking out. She cowers away from him, putting her hands over her head, saying "I didn't mean it, I'm sorry I upset you, please don't hurt me" over and over in a frightened trance.
And he's just watching her crumble in shock, because this wasn't the same goddess that challenged him in the games. This wasn't the warrior who would push her emotions away, who would use logic over anything.
This was his daughter crying and shaking because of his actions. Because of what he had done, he permanently changed the way Athena sees him. Respectfully, still. But now she fears him too. He's confused, because that's what he wanted wasn't it? To pay for speaking against him, for beating his game.
So why was he suddenly feeling guilty at the sight of her staring at him with terror in her eyes?
Athena ends up running away in a panic before he can do anything else.

Listening to God Games on the bus (again) and I just love that when Athena and Ares are trying to sway each other they both have very different drums (also seperate from Zeus).
Like Ares has a bit of a snare vibe going on when he's on a roll with what he's saying (bad pun but had to make it) wth slower drums in the back.
Then Athena comes in cutting off his instrumentals and has those same drums he has in the back but they are heavier and more intentional then Ares, even brought more to the forefront. Equalling to her main piano.
----------------------------------------------------
Another in the same section kinda but when she's trying to sway Aphrodite her drums are non-existent and the overall vibe is just so gentle and handling Aphrodite with a form of understanding of her view.
----------------------------------------------------
Anyway I just think those differences of how she converses with them is really fun to dissect. It's pretty cool to see the other Deities recognising her change after Ody and Telemachus just with how she interacts with them.

Okay so I still can't collect my thoughts coherently enough to make a giant post about The Wisdom Saga but I did notice something I want to talk about as I was rewatching the animatics
Throughout the animatics, when Athena is using her strength/power, she glows. (And this happens to other people in EPIC with abilities too [Tirseas glows, Zeus glows, Poseidon glows, etc] but we're gonna focus on Athena specifically rn)
Examples:
WARRIOR OF THE MIND (no glow [top] vs with glow [bottom])
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
LITTLE WOLF (glow examples)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
WE'LL BE FINE (no glow examples)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
LOVE IN PARADISE - HOURGLASS (no glow [LEFT] vs with glow [RIGHT])
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
LOVE IN PARADISE - TIME FUCKERY (no glow [BOTTOM] vs with glow [TOP])
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Essentially what I noticed is when she's using her godly powers, she glows. When she's just chilling/not using her powers, she doesn't glow.
In Warrior of The Mind, when she's first being introduced, she doesn't glow. When she starts demonstrating her power, she glows
In Little Wolf, when she's using her power to help Telemachus, she glows.
In We'll Be fine, when the fight is over and she's just talking to Telemachus, she doesn't glow
In Love In Paradise, when she's thinking back to Odysseus and is ABOUT to make the time jump, she doesn't glow. When she BEGINS to make the time jump and throughout it, she glows. At the end of the time jump, when she's gone as far as Odysseus's memories before his capture (aka out of Athena's reach), she stops glowing because she's not time jumping anymore.
The reason this all stood out to me is because of one fateful moment in God Games:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Athena was glowing while she was fighting Zeus because she was (obviously) using her power. When Athena is "killed", she stops glowing. One could even say, her light went out.
POP QUIZ, WINIONS: where have we heard the phrase "[his] light went out" before? If you answered "it was when Athena was telling Telemachus about how she had helped her dear friend (Odysseus) but eventually, his demons got the best of him and he lost his spark", you'd be correct!
Odysseus never died (and I don't think Athena died either) but something in him died along the way back to Ithica. He was a changed person, and he no longer had that same joy and light he left Ithica with. Similarly, Athena goes from an (overly) proud and confident goddess to begging for her friend's freedom and fighting for his life with hers.
I don't think Athena died at the end of God Games but I do think 1) she was obviously temporarily incapacitated [thus causing the literal light to go out] 2) having to fight so hard for Odysseus's life and realizing she was wrong about so many things broke something inside her, which caused her metaphorical light to go out.
I think this light analogy works for two things: actual divine power being showcased through fucking GLOWING (when a god is idle, no glow glow. when a god turns on the switch, much glow glow) and metaphorical light inside someone, sorta like their soul.
I think Odysseus's light slowly started to dim along his journey to the point where it almost goes completely out at the end of Love In Paradise because he's fucking had it and I think Athena's light almost goes out when her literal light goes out at the end of God Games because not only does she almost die but she realizes not only how wrong her thinking about Odysseus was, but also how FUCKED her family is.
I could be completely off base here but I noticed it and wanted to ramble about it because the inside of my brain is chaos and tumblr is the drain.

Okay so, I have an idea for an AU thanks to a edit that a moot made on tiktok
Imagine Eurylochus survives the thunder that Zeus threw at the ship leaving him with a large yellow scar, Zeus seeing him alive is interested in him and he takes him to Olympus
I have some things planned for the AU and I will probably change some things too, I don't have a name for the AU yet but I'm going to think about it!

(Hello Epic The Musical Fandom 👋) I couldn't shake off how much Zeus announcing the gods in "God Games" reminded me of the announcer from Brawl so I got to work and spent too much time making this. Yes the wii remote parts are out of an actual wiimote speaker lol.
Bonus:
Might write a ramble on my trials and tribulations going about this at some point but the TLDR of how I wound up doing it is: ripped my copy of brawl to emulate it, ripped the assets from the iso file and replaced the relevant sound files with my edited ones using brawlbox. The edited Zeus clips (not played through the game) are below the cut!
