the eldest daughter burden
It's been 4 years since I left my home to star my new family. I got married, moved abroad and began my journey somewhere else with this new person who I get to call husband. I'll introduce him to you all in another post.
And it's been 4 years that I keep getting desperate messages from my family - the only updates I get from them are news of the world falling apart in the house I grew up. Don't full yourselves, it has always been like that.
This post is about to get too real too fast. Brace yourselves. It hurts me more to write it down than it will hurt you reading it. If it resonates with you somehow I'd like to say - in advance - how sorry I am. I understand you.
Trigger warning: DV, mental illness, suicide and drug abuse.
I have always carried the burden of being the grown up there, being the parent to my parents, the best friend my mom so desperately needed (and need), the pilar that stopped the aggressions and violence coming from my stepdad towards... all of us.
Multiple times I woke up to my phone ringing because somebody ended up in the hospital, or police station, or one of my siblings had run away from the madness they call home. It ain't my home no more and I'm grateful for that.
It's been tiresome and rather difficult to grow up like that. I have never really had the time or the opportunity to just... be, to just exist and be consumed by a teenager ordinary problems because I was always too busy trying to literally stop them from killing each other.
I distinctively remember this particular incident where I was in my room studying - trying to study - to my BAR exam and I heard somebody knocking on my door. I opened the door to find both my siblings carrying a bunch of knives and sharp objects and they were asking me to hide them in my room to stop my mom from killing my stepdad and vice-versa. I took my siblings in, closed the door and blasted loud music to mask off all the fighting noise coming from the outside.
To this day, I still get the desperate phone calls from them. The "please, talk to her, to him, to them and fix it" even though I've crossed the ocean to be apart from all that.
I'm not being egoistic about it, don't get me wrong. They have used and abused me for 2 decades - I just want peace and so it seems peace is hard to find. The worse part was all the pretending, the "let's put on a show for those on the outside and look like a happy family."
My mom and her husband, my stepdad, went as far as to writing a book about what it takes to live a happy and harmonious life with your family even though inside our home I was always rushing to get some ice for my beaten up mom, and sister, and brother. Sometimes, even me. Call the police? It was never an option. Nobody could ever find out the horrors inside our home, it would ruin the facade and we would have been punished for that. Fear... We all feared.
I was raised in an environment that gave me all the elements to make me screw up in the head. However, as an eldest daughter, we don't get to be irresponsible. We know that if we are not able to take care of ourselves nobody else will. If we have a problem we have to fix it. If we need money we have to go find a job and work for it.
We grow up to become the adults our inner child would've been able to count on and we spend the rest of our lives doing exactly that, taking care and healing the wounded child. The kid that couldn't be just a kid, the teenager that couldn't just be a teen.
It hurts.

the guilt of being poor
just the other day I was online shopping - not shopping per se - more like browsing for things, and as I was about to purchase something it occurred to me "i should buy something for my husband too" and following that train of thought came up the question "why?"
to answer that question i had to digress back to my childhood so i could fully comprehend the guilt of being poor.
i can confidently say we did not have money in my household when i was a kid - i'm talking about growing up without a fridge and going to my friend's house to play around meal time so i could, you know, eat.
5 people under the same roof. mom, stepdad, bro, sis and I. I'm the oldest - we can talk about the rage and guilt of the oldest daughter in another post.
anyway, my parents always made it clear that if they couldn't buy something for all of us they would not buy anything - because that would be favoring one child and they didn't think it's fair. So, what my brain understood from all that? it understood i cannot spend money on me without spending money on the people i love too, otherwise i'd be selfish.
now here I am, a working-class woman making enough money to get-by without major problems, who can't seem to buy a pair of underwear without spinning circles in her mind.
as we grow up we realize everything is about money. Even as a kid I already knew that - the lack of money made it clear the importance it holds.
the guilt of being poor is real. you feel guilty when you buy something "non-essential" when in reality we should be shaming money-hoarding-billionaires for putting the whole society in a position of having to choose.
more often than not i find myself trying to satisfy the wants and needs of the little poor girl i have inside of me. the one that grew up without shiny toys, having to butcher old shirts to make clothes for my off-brand barbies.

Tribal Empowerment in India
Tribal Empowerment in India?
Tribal empowerment in India is a complex issue that combines cultural preservation, economic progress, and social justice for the country's enormous tribal population. Tribal communities, which make up over 104 million people (8.6% of the total population), are an essential element of India's cultural and historical environment. This blog digs at the various aspects of Tribal Empowerment, the challenges that these communities confront, and government initiatives to help them grow.
Who We Are?
From the bottom of our hearts, we extend a warm welcome to you into the Paras Parivaar Charitable Trust family. In our Sanatan Dharm, this Parivaar was founded and is now being maintained by our  Mahant Shri Paras Bhai Ji of Sanatan Dharm to contribute to the welfare of the underprivileged and needy people. Because he consistently states, "happiness of maa is behind their smile." This idea of Mahant Shri Paras Bhai Ji has become the focus of our family's daily activities.
Tumblr media
The Paras Parivaar Charitable Trust works 365 days a year to lug our Paras Guru's vision forward. We have helped more than 10 lakh Needy, and thanks to Maa and our Mahant Shri Paras Bhai Ji of Sanatan Dharm, this number is steadily rising. And it is the grandeur of Sanatan Dharm that we strive to assist those who cannot afford to pay for their education or who are food insecure.
Because we usually hear the quote "Unity is Strength" in everyday life, the Paras Parivaar Charitable Trust would like for you to join our family. We are certain that if we all work together as a single family, we will be stronger and more committed to helping more people in need. Serving an increasing number of individuals in need will enable us to carve out a large place in the heart of our Maa. So, join the Paras Parivaar now for the chance of a lifetime to make the poor and needy smile widely.
Working hard to boost the lives of the poor and needy would also help us reduce the rate of poverty and increase the rate of education in our nation. In addition to providing aid to those in need, our  Mahant Shri Paras Bhai Ji wants to educate them so that they may become self-sufficient and contribute to the cause. join our Paras Parivaar Charitable Trust and aid those in need and destitute with what they need for food, shelter, and education.
Context of History
Tribal people in India have a long history and have contributed significantly to the country's freedom effort. Their various cultures, dialects, and traditions add to India's diversity. Historical movements such as the Khasi-Garo and Mizo movements highlight tribal groups' active participation in shaping the nation's history. The recognition of their achievements has resulted in initiatives such as the Janjatiya Gaurav Divas, which is commemorated each year on November 15 to honour the legacy of tribal freedom fighters like Bhagwan Birsa Munda.
Government Initiatives
Eklavya Model Residential Schools: Approximately 750 schools are being created to expand educational opportunities for tribal children with the aim of improving literacy rates and educational attainment.
Cultural Preservation: The establishment of Zonal Cultural Centres (ZCCs) and the promotion of tribal languages and arts are crucial for preserving tribal heritage. The government provides grants to support these initiatives, including the development of bilingual primers and tribal literature.
Economic Development: The Pradhan Mantri Janjati Adivasi Nyaya Maha Abhiyan (PM JANMAN) was established with a budget of around ₹24,000 crore to promote the development of Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTG). This program aims to improve lives, healthcare, and education in these areas.
Market Integration: Initiatives like the Aadi Mahotsav, a national tribal festival, aim to strengthen tribal craftsmen' marketing abilities and promote their products, resulting in increased income and economic participation in the mainstream market.
The Difficulties Tribal Communities Face
Despite these initiatives, tribal communities continue to face significant challenges:
Land Rights: Development projects, mining, and urbanization have cost many indigenous tribes their traditional lands. Securing land rights is vital for their survival and cultural identity.
Healthcare Access: Tribal groups frequently live in rural places with limited access to healthcare services, resulting in greater infant mortality and Poor Health outcomes.
Disparities in Education: Although indigenous literacy rates have improved, they remain lower than the national average. Customized educational programs are required to meet the unique needs of tribal students.
Economic Marginalization: Tribals are frequently unable to reach marketplaces, which forces them to charge poor rates for their goods. Improving their marketing abilities and incorporating them into the larger economy is essential to raising their standard of living.
To summarize, tribal empowerment in India involves more than just economic development; it is about recognising and honoring tribal populations' unique cultural legacy while safeguarding their rights and involvement in the nation's advancement. The government's actions are a beginning in the right direction, but long-term efforts are required to solve the underlying issues that these communities face.
