See, the thing is, Grian isn’t lying when he says that the snails aren’t his doing.

He gets why people are saying that; the timeline of him finally getting the stupid book and the snails emerging from the sea line up near-perfectly, as if they were another manic machination of his boredom. It’s also the fact that they just straight up came out of the sea, or at least should’ve- he swears up and down that the pink one shot down from the sky, he saw it with his own two eyes. But, considering he doesn’t control the sky, the pink snail cannot be his doing at the very least. And the teal one? The one that people are calling his snail? He just found it after a particularly stormy night, chilling on the docks, and he found it just so damn cute that he took it as a pet. Both of those aren’t Grian’s fault. They can’t be, by that logic.

But honestly, by now, he’s getting a little worried about the snails, in either case of his innocence with them. He’ll be the first to admit that he’s not the sanest person on the Hermitcraft server—he’s not sure who is, really, when everyone has their own things going on—particularly within the past few weeks, if the beard and book count as indication. His memory has been a little foggy for a while, so it very well could’ve been him putting snails everywhere, and he just flat-out forgot for one reason or another. Though, that doesn’t seem likely- he’s strong, but not strong enough to haul a giant snail out of the sea and onto a literal freight train, nor does he have the patience to meticulously choose snails that are sturdy enough to replace the wheels. That had to be a meticulous and pre-planned process, something Grian doesn’t really have the time for.

This leaves him with three conclusions: if it is him behind the snail acts, he’s not the only thing occupying his body. If it isn’t, well, there’s still something causing the snails to make their way through the works of Magic Mountain, and it certainly isn’t another hermit, based on their reactions. If it’s a mix of both—considering he’s found himself freeing snails from the cages Scar put them in without remembering how he got there—then the snails aren’t so cute anymore, and Grian’s just about ready to—

Where was he?

Right. The snails. They’re not his doing, pinky promise. Grian got his book, he filled the prophecy, and he’s stopped fishing like it’s his last day on earth. The bit is over. He’s moved on- why would he beat a dead horse into the ground like that? Sure, he can still smell rot wafting from the river, but he’s Gem’s neighbor, and she’s got that whole fish horror thing going on, so it very well could be her. Nevermind the fact that they were eating her lighthouse, and she wouldn't do that to her own hard work. And sure, she came to him when a snail chose her--the way he said it would--but she was probably under the assumption that it was his, just like everyone else. It wasn’t. He’s sure it wasn’t.

The snails would explain his white-hot anger at Scar’s little cooking prank; the way Grian’s skin felt like it was burning every time he looked at the pan. How, despite knowing that his friend was just messing with him, every instinct was telling him to kill him where he stood, no mercy. How it felt like the same seething rage he felt when Scar had fished up a copy of the book weeks prior, and he’d done that very thing. And maybe, just maybe, it would explain how sometimes, on the nights where his dreams are the most vivid and gross, he wakes up in the Chamber, positioned as if in a prayer.

But if it is…

A streak of fear runs up his spine. The weather, despite his dedication to the sea released, is still stormy and grey. The water is still murky and washing slime up onto his shores. The dreams of the book haven’t stopped, despite him clutching it like a rosary on even good days. The whispers of the wind are an angry, menacing thing in his ear. He thought it would be over once he got what he wanted. He thought it would be enough to satisfy whatever the ocean needed from him.

There is a rod in his hands, he realizes. He throws it as far away as he can. It lands next to a clump of snails, who all turn to look at him with an otherworldly menace in their pitch black eyes.

Just what has he released onto his home?

Came out later than I was intending because I got a bpd diagnosis today lmao. Not what I was expecting but I guess that means just another oc to project all my issues on--

Didn't proofread because I'm exhausted lol. I know I probably got some medical inaccuracies, but I don't take my whump seriously enough anyway XD.

It was like every other day. Lawrence worked a lot and Marshall would keep himself entertained while he was gone.

He often went out to the yard to tend to the plants, drawing in the sketchbook Lawrence got him, and reading through his bookshelf. He reread some of them already, but he was going crazy without anything else to do.

He had always lived a solitary lifestyle, but this was a whole new level of isolation.

Even though Lawrence said to never go into the forest alone, he never said anything about the beach.

Lawrence had been gone since this morning. He usually left at ten, and then returned by five. And since Marshall was done his chores early, he had nothing better to do other than explore the beach.

The tide pools were always pretty to look at, and he liked finding interesting seashells to keep.

He made his way through the woods, wincing when sticks poked his skin. He eventually got out to the clearing of the coast. It was a gorgeous sight, as per usual. The sky was clear and the ocean sparkled, glittering beneath the sunlight. The waves crashed against the sand. Marshall always appreciated how peaceful it was out here, no one to disturb the stillness of the beach.

Marshall wandered down the shoreline, admiring the seagulls flying above him and the different kinds of shells he could collect. He picked out the prettiest ones, deciding he could make a bracelet out of them for fun.

He looked up from the sand to gaze at the ocean. It was so tranquil today. He loved how the salty air smelled, and the way the cool water felt against his bare feet.

He liked to swim every now and then, and sometimes Lawrence even swam with him. It wasn't very fun though, since Lawrence would freak out the entire time and make him promise not to go deeper than his waist.

He sighed at the thought of having to endure another lecture about safety when he got home.

Just as he was walking up the steep hill of rocks and large boulders, he tripped over the sharp edges of a rock and tumbled backwards, yelping as he skidded down the rocky slope. The grit dug into his palms and the exposed part of his knees.

Marshall laid on the sand, dazed and confused, trying to figure out what happened.

He pushed himself up into a sitting position, glancing down at his hands. They were bleeding profusely, and so were his knees. His calves were cut up too. Some of them were small enough to be small scrapes, nothing that a bandaid and some ice couldn't fix. But some of the cuts were deeper and wider than others, and they burned like fire.

He squeezed his eyes shut at the overwhelming pain.

It was his fault for being clumsy, so he sucked it up and started cleaning himself up as best he could.

He picked the pebbles out of his knees and hands, gritting his teeth through it. It wasn't very effective, and he had to stop due to the blood coating his arms.

Marshall slowly made his way to the house, stopping every few minutes to take a breather.

He didn't want to get in blood in the house, but he needed to call Lawrence. He was told to only use the phone in case of emergencies, but he thought this counted as an emergency. He knew he was definitely going to get scolded later.

The scolding would definitely be worse if he didn't call him, so this was for the best.

He limped up to the front porch and swung the door open, wincing at the soreness in his muscles.

He quickly staggered inside and grabbed the home phone from the kitchen. He dialed Lawrence's number and waited impatiently for him to pick up. After a few rings, the line connected.

"Hi, Marsh! I'm sorry, but I'm kind of busy right now. Did something happen?" Lawrence asked. Marshall could hear the sounds of several people talking in the background, so he assumed he was at one of his production meetings.

"I, uh, kind of got hurt and I was wondering if you could come back."

"Hurt? What do you mean?"

He winced when he took a step, trying to ignore the sharp pain coursing through his body. "It's fine. I just scraped my knees and hands." Marshall wiped his tears, glancing down at one of his open wounds.

The biggest one was on his leg, right above his knee and still had blood pooling from it. He grabbed a napkin with his free hand to put over the cut. It was a miracle he wasn't having a panic attack.

"How badly?" Lawrence's tone was deadly serious.

"I don't know." Marshall cleared his throat, which had been feeling scratchy the past few minutes. "But it really hurts. There's blood everywhere, and I'm so sorry! I'll clean it up, I swear. I just thought you should know, and I couldn't get the bleeding to stop, so--"

"Just put pressure on it, I'll be home in thirty minutes! Can you hold on until then?!"

"It's fine, I'm not dying." Even if it felt and looked like it.

"Just wait there, okay?!" He heard frantic footsteps, and him yell something to likely one of his coworkers. "Stay on the line."

Marshall did so. He felt nauseous and his head was throbbing. He slumped down on the ground, biting his lip hard enough to break the skin.

The napkin was soaked with his blood now. He let out a small groan and wiped his sweaty forehead with the back of his hand. He tried thinking about other things to distract him from the pain.

A little sooner than thirty minutes later, Lawrence slammed open the front door, panting like he just ran a marathon. The first thing he spotted was the blood.

Marshall tried to get up and show him his injuries, but he wobbled and fell back, letting out a distressed noise.

Lawrence rushed over to him. He crouched in front of him, grabbing his wrist to examine his hands. "What happened?!" he demanded, inspecting each cut, and then moving up to his knee. He tried being as careful as possible when he peeled back the napkin, revealing the wound. His eyes widened in horror. "Shit." It was rare he cursed in front of him, so Marshall knew he was freaked out. "How did this happen?"

Marshall didn't meet his eyes. "I fell, it was stupid."

"It's fine. Everything's fine..." Lawrence's hands were shaking, a clear indicator he didn't believe his own words.

He rushed to one of the kitchen cabinets to grab the medical supplies, and then jogged back over to Marshall's side.

He started applying some disinfectant on his injuries, emitting a cry from the brunet. Lawrence cooed and rubbed his thigh soothingly. He dug into the med kit to pull out a suture kit. Marshall paled at the sight of it, immediately shaking his head.

"N-no, I don't need stitches. They'll be fine. It's just a few scratches." He tried pulling his leg back, but Lawrence firmly kept it in place.

"It's okay, just try to relax. I've done this before, and it'll be quick." Marshall remained skeptical but obeyed him. Lawrence pulled his leg into his lap and unwrapped the suture needle from its package, readying it against his skin.

Marshall wanted to ask for something to ease the pain, but he couldn't speak. He squeezed his eyes shut.

He could handle this. It was just a couple of stitches.

Marshall's bottom lip wobbled. It hurt so much. He hissed while Lawrence thread the needle through the cut. It only got worse once he tugged the string tight. He opened one of his eyes to see how many more were left.

The wound was extremely wide and long. Lawrence went on, his eyes not leaving his work for a second. It broke his heart each time Marshall would cry, but he persisted.

After what felt like an eternity, he finally tied the last stitch. He then put on some antibiotic ointment and covered it up with a bandage. He stood up to put the medical kit away. Marshall's entire leg was red from the blood, but it wasn't as swollen as he thought it would be.

Lawrence squatted beside him to wash out the other wounds, and then put bandaids over them. Marshall was scared more would need stitches, but after those, Lawrence deemed them unworthy of that.

Marshall put his weight on the blond, who scooped him up and carried him to the bathroom.

"Let's get you cleaned up, buddy." Lawrence placed him on the closed toilet seat and lathered a sponge in water and soap. "Just gonna do a sponge-bath for now, okay? We can get you a bath in a few hours when we need to change your bandages. Now, arms up."

Marshall mindlessly obeyed, letting Lawrence pull the shirt off of him. He had a few growing bruises on his newly exposed skin, but no cuts.

"Why didn't you stay inside?"

"I was bored," Marshall admitted.

Lawrence scrubbed the dirt and dried blood from his skin. "There are plenty of things to do in this house. What were you doing outside anyway?"

If he weren't injured and on the verge of a breakdown, Lawrence would have definitely unleashed his full anger. "I went to the beach. It's comforting." Lawrence briefly paused, to which Marshall continued, "I fell down on that rocky hill-thing. You know the one I'm talking about, I think."

A long, disappointed sigh left Lawrence's mouth. "You're telling me, instead of climbing the actual path like a sane person, you decided to climb the rock mountain?" Marshall shrugged. "You can't do that again. It's dangerous. And you almost gave me a heart attack."

"Sorry..." he mumbled. He leaned forward so Lawrence could clean his back and check for bruises. "You're acting surprisingly calm," Marshall joked weakly, in attempt to lighten the mood.

"I'm keeping my composure, for your sake. This could have been a lot worse than just a few stitches. If you'd gotten tetanus, we would be in the hospital." He pulled back to look at Marshall. "You did get your tetanus shot, right?"

"I think so."

Lawrence's lips curled into a frown. "You think so?"

"I don't remember, okay?"

"Marshall..." He shook his head in disappointment. He retrieved some fresh clothing and helped him into it, putting him into sweatpants and an old t-shirt. "You're getting a tetanus shot tomorrow, no objections."

He really disliked when Lawrence talked down to him like a kid, but it was a nice reminder that someone cared about his wellbeing, even if he wasn't pleased. "Okay," he whispered.

Lawrence kissed his forehead and picked him back up, carrying him to the couch. He gingerly lowered him down, before grabbing a few pillows and blankets.

Marshall watched him spread the blankets across the couch. When he was satisfied, he gently tucked a pillow under his head, and then wrapped a fuzzy blanket around his thin frame.

"I'm going to make you something to eat, alright? Then I'll go clean up the mess."

Marshall didn't even realize there was a puddle of his own blood still in the kitchen until now. His lips quivered, and Lawrence pressed another kiss on his head, making his breathing even out again.

"Sorry I messed up your day."

Lawrence smiled sadly. "You didn't mess up my day, you could never. But we're going to have a conversation about listening to me. That's all you need to do, kiddo. If I tell you not to do something, it's because I have a good reason. I'm just trying to take care of you."

Marshall nodded, allowing Lawrence to leave. He was tired of getting into arguments with him about the 'listening' thing.

It wasn't worth it anymore. He'd never win.

He tried to get comfortable on the couch, but all he could think about was the gaping wound in his leg and the pounding headache that hadn't gone away.

Marshall allowed himself to be fed chicken noodle soup for lunch. He stayed laying on the sofa, trying to focus on the TV and the sound of Lawrence washing the dishes. He had just taken his medicine, so he hoped it would kick in soon and his body would start relaxing.

He felt a tear slip down his cheek. He tried wiping it away with his arm, but more just came out. It was humiliating, and he was ashamed of himself.

Lawrence's face softened when he saw his reddened eyes. He finished drying off the bowl and quickly crossed the room. He knelt beside him, stroking his hair away from his eyes. "Oh, honey, what's wrong?"

"I'm just stressed and in pain, 's all." He sniffled.

"Is there anything I can do to make you feel better?"

He wiped his tears again. "Can you hug me? I just-- I don't like being alone right now."

Lawrence didn't hesitate for a second, shuffling onto the couch to hold him in his arms. He stroked his hair and spoke sweet nothings into his ear, occasionally planting kisses on his head. He'd never feel comfortable being vulnerable like this with any person. Even when he was an actual kid, his parents didn't show him this much affection.

He pulled back. "My poor baby," he crooned, squeezing his cheeks between his fingers. He pushed the brown locks of hair behind his ears. "Are you ready for a nap, kiddo? Or do you need more cuddles first?"

"Cuddles."

"Of course. C'mere, Marshie." He shifted around on the couch so Marshall could lay atop of him. Lawrence buried his nose in his hair and continued to stroke his head. Marshall clung to his sweater, drifting off to Lawrence's heartbeat.

Right so... been going crazy trying to catch up on the explosion of stuff peeps have been doing since the EPIC: The Musical Ocean Saga release, but. Got some downtime now, and I just wanted to post my reaction to listening to the songs, 'cause it was wild bro.

Fyi, this is all taking place at around 11:30 pm 24th Dec for me, as I'm an australian, so that would make it... uh, 8:30 am 24th Dec for americans I think? Idk, timezones are weird bro. Basically, I listened to the songs and then wrote down my immediate reactions at like 1 am lol.

I was on dicord, right? And then another australian says they're out, and i'm like wait what but there's still like 16 hours till midnight in est, but i look up 'luck runs out jorgre rivera-herrans' on yt (cause it's a unique name) and scroll down and FUCK IT'S THERE!! THE STANDARD AUTO TOPIC VERSION!! IT'S NOT EVEN MIDNIGHT HERE YET?? (23:24 at the time of discovery. The vid says it was uploaded 3 hrs ago already)

The piano. I heard the first notes of piano and ohhhhh shiiiit it's actually happening!!!

i opened the door and called out to mum 'cause i was still in disbelief and she was still awake and i was like "mum... i think it's out" or SOMETHIG LIKE THAT IDK THE EXACT WORDS. She said jokingly she'd thought i had an existential crisis and GIRL IT KINDA FELT LIKE IT?? I WAS NOT PREPARED! I WAS SUPPOSED TO HAVE ANOTHER 16 HOURS!

I tapped on the link thingy to the album in the description and then i had the album RIGHT THERE HOLY MOTHER OF JESUS. IT'S STORM. IN THE FLESH. THERE'S A FUCKING TRUMPET-

I did my civic duty and informed (read: screamed in all caps) to everyone in the discord while mum listened to the first song 'cause she said she was interested and asked and i was so excited and gave her my headphones to listen to storm and then I took em back once I was done and now it's time to go dark. I said goodnight to mum and... pressed play.

Here's the highlights:

Storm: mixing is on another level bro. The vocals, the harmonies, the chorus, and hearing all those snippets without breaks in between, actually flowing and making sense and that ending beat is AHHH-

It went so fast. It's three min long how did it go by so fast what-

Luck Runs Out: the piano is godly. They actually changed the melody of the 'you could be caught off guard' part. My first thought after ooo? Was 'damn it no longer sounds like shut up and dance w/ me' lol.

I think this one changed the most from the snippets. Jsut the way they say lines, and stray words. I love it. The harmonies-

KYFC: the intro is that one atmospheric snippet he did with the flutes!! Aeolus sounds so sassy compared to the old snippets oof hell yes! There's a small instrumental interlude between the first chorus and the crew asking about the bag which is new.

THE PENELOPE PART. OH. MY. GOD. I LEGIT TEARED UP, I WAS CRYING, I'M CRYING JUST THINKING ABOUT IT AND TYPING THIS OUT IT WAS SO FUCKING HEARTBREAKING.

Trying to hold them in his arms? Time to be that father he always wanted to be?? His eyes and heart and soul is heavy??? I'm FUCKING CRYING-

The chanting, Ody's terrified 'Poseidon...', the electric guitar on Poseidon's verse, the fucking growl in his voice is amazing, the 'Die.' is as;ihfd HELL FUCKING YES!!

I love that the 'Captain-!'s of the drowning men is more apparent here, and the silence afterwards... ooof you can hear Ody's horrified stuttered breaths and the way the lyric's changed to '43 left under your command' is soooo fucking good.

And then Ody's sudden defiance and the fucking burning in his eyes as he defies a god and escapes death- Yes. YES! It's so good-

... No wait it's over?? That's it??? WHYYYYY-

(Side note - the fact that there weren't any ads between vids is incredible and I thank the gods for this blessing.)

Ok, but all seriousness, that was incredible. I- I couldn't stop smiling. My face actually started hurting I was smiling so much. I was shaking the whole time, and I had to keep reminding myself to breathe, and- It was amazing. This was an amazing experience, and I'm so glad I could freak out to mum, and she was excited with me, and it was such a good surprise, like an actual chrismas gift from Jorge or some shit. I love it. I love this. Genuinely. It's an amazing thing he's given us and I thank him, sincerely. Thank you, Jorge, and everyone involved in creating this for people to enjoy and love. You should all be proud.

Oh wow, I can already see traces of N in even the early cutscenes. Riku accuses Noah of cowardice for only thinking of himself and yeah!!! That's N!!!

Manana: "What friends afraid of, hmm?" Roommate: "Ethel. She's coming to kick our ass."

"Did they bring the whole fuckin robot out? Oh they--OH they brought the WHOLE robot to us huh."

My roommate has been lovingly ragging on Ethel and Colony 4 for not questioning anything about the weird black fog monsters but now she's really going off next to me because Riku and Manana still just look normal next to the party

I forgot how awesome the whole fight with K and the other Ouroboros awakenings are. We're just having a great time

And then after the battle Noah shows how different he is from N already, by sending on the Consul

Sena's description of the Agnian Queen just made my roommate think that she's Gormotti, but like. Yeah I can't blame her for that one. Now if she actually sees the Agnian Queen and doesn't suspect anything, then I'll be very entertained

Roommate, entirely unprompted: "I would write self-insert fanfiction with Taion."

Yeah lmao she just realized that the Kevesi Queen is wearing a mask

She saw the Agnian Queen and NOW she's gotten the plot. One single word out of her mouth and she was like "Wait, NIA?!" and then whirled around and said "Does Jenna Coleman, perhaps, voice a particular character in this game?"

"I did not spend 100+ hours maining Nia through xenoblade 2 to not recognize her from the first word!"

And she's immediately like "so they're brainwashed or something, right? They'd never do this willingly" which was also my reaction when I played lol

(Oh yeah fun fact: I absolutely forgot that the Agnian Queen is on-screen at this part because I hadn't played 2 when I played 3, so I just. didn't recognize her.)

In a single moment of self-awareness from me across these three playthroughs, I caught myself and refrained from explaining my headcanons about how exactly Nia would rise to a position of political power like Queen because there are a lot of assumptions in there that my roommate has not quite come to yet!

Roommate: "I love how they said their Queen is regal and graceful and poised, and then it's supposed to be Nia. Like that of all things is tipping me off that it's not the real her, Nia is a gutter rat."

J walked up in the cutscene and my roommate just laughed and called him short. (This twist is so well-done, I had no idea it was coming my first time through.)

Lmao I forgot that Ethel recommends the central ocean as a route to Swordmarch. They could just speedrun the game if they don't get ripped to shreds

Oh I forgot to mention it earlier but Consul K says "coup de grace" so we decided that France is real in xenoblade. Do with that what you will.

1. Starting simple, how did they first meet?

While I've briefly touched on Vykrum's connection to the House of Hope, that's not very specific, and a lack of specifics isn't very FUN.

Vykrum originally started visiting the HoH for the portal room, so it makes the most sense that they would meet there. I doubt Vykrum would be coaxed into exploring the house indepth before meeting young Gortash, and there are plenty of reasons why a slave might be tempted to try utilizing a room full of portals to escape lmao. Especially one as clever as Flymm.

(Also. Idk why and this is sort of off topic, but does anyone else struggle to call him 'Enver'. It feels gross. I Don't Like It.)

Anyway. Vykrum is coming back to the HoH just as Flymm is picking the lock to the door. He needs to Get in that room Flymm is fucking around with. So he misty steps his ass behind that kid and goes You Are Not Picking That Effectively. Let Me Pick It. Stupid Boy. And Flymn is like ohhhhh I really don't like you already. Even though he's probably seen Vykrum around. Possibly approached him before playing up the poor little orphan child aspect for sympathy points he definitely doesn't receive lol.

Vykrum helps him pick the lock, and thn immediately snitches to Nubaldin or someone else in the HoH 👍 because part of sneaking around isn't getting caught, child. Do better.

4. Do they fear each other?

Yes. No. IT'S COMPLICATED. They both know the other is capable of utter insanity. Vykrum has seen a young Flymm beat a starving dog to death to prove a point, seen him lie with nary a tell on his face, has watched him steal and kill and maim and. Do some other stuff I'd rather not get into here. And he found it all kind of funny. For lack of a better word.

And when Gort is old enough to fight back. Jesus. Jesus Christ. I don't understand why Vykrum doesn't get scared of this guy. This thing. Human shaped machine. Dearth of joy and so on. What if I did every fucked up thing to you that you've ever done to me and I do it better and I do it worse.

Gortash was forced to suffer through Vykrum's cruel and unusual tutelage, which included but was not limited to: getting his knuckles beaten with a smoking pipe while playing the piano, eating raw human flesh stripped from his own arms (after trying his luck with manipulating Vykrum into giving him food via crying), getting a tooth pulled out for every drow word he can't instantly read… but unlike some of the other freaks in the HoH, Vykrum wasn't attacking Gortash because he thought he was an easy target, or because he particularly relished in his agony. He was doing it because he thought Flymm could handle it and because he thought it would make him stronger.

Um. Abuses you bc I care <3 terrorizes you bc I want you to succeed and become strong and escape one day <3 and if you don't well. Idc. You're weak then. A waste of time, but at least entertaining.

^^^ This shit probably pisses off Gortash immeasurably. And he probably has what a normal person would describe as nightmares about it but instead he just gets angry and hunts Vykrum down with a magic flintlock pistol and shoots at Vykrum as they scurry around the estate lawn.

All this to say. I don't think they fear each other. Per say. They might be wary of what the other is capable of and watch each other like you would watch a rabid animal but. Overall they have something much more sinister going on ect ect.

10. How would you describe their dynamic together? Is one more powerful than the other, or are they on equal footing? (Who is the hydrogen bomb and who is the coughing baby?)

I've joked around about them being like. A toxic boy mom and a kind of hateful little Freudian cuss that wants to bang his mom as much as he wants to strangle her to death. But that's like. An oversimplification and it's kind of condescending to both their characters.

Vykrum starts out as the hydrogen bomb because. Flymm is a literal coughing baby. He's like. 9 when they first meet. Kind of an unfair matchup. Yes, Flymm is absolutely a dangerous child, very talented and smart, but. If I punched the world's smartest toddler I would win. Because I'm a fully grown man. And so is Vykrum. Even if his constitution stat is Insanely Low, It cannot possibly be lower thn that of a malnourished child living in hell.

But fret not Gort fans. The machine always comes out on top. (NO TOP JOKES. 💥💥💥) Vykrum is physically frail, and an adult Gortash is absolutely anything but that. Lol. Yes, Vykrum is still a very talented necromancer and cleric, but by the time they unhappily reunite, they're far more evenly matched - although the needle is slightly tipped in Gortash's direction, thanks to his connections. Vykrum might be clever, but people don't fucking like them, and people LOVE Gortash. Even me. Sorry Vykrum.

It's kind of hard to lash out against someone physically and socially more powerful thn you when the closest graveyard is miles away and you would shatter every bone in your hand if you tried to slap 'em around now.

for the fanfiction wip guessing game……..is it cheating if i say like. “beej”

LOL HELLO and--I wouldn't consider this cheating at all, PRECISELY because it turns out I actually very rarely use "Beej"??????? Somehow??????? In fact it comes up: zero times so far in my WIPs (sorry!!) so instead you get my Baffled, Intrigued thoughts on How and When and Why the nickname comes up in my fic after I went through all of my pub'd stuff and ctrl-f'd "Beej" to see if I really actually use it that sparingly.

Okay, on "Beej": I've got multiple fics where it's not used at all, or used only once. The nickname comes up just 12 times in all 221,000 words of Somewhere to Get To, compared to something like 50-ish instances of "Hawk." Admittedly some of that disparity is because Daniel and BJ and Erin and even Hawkeye himself use "Hawk," whereas BJ is only "Beej" to Hawkeye. But it also just isn't a regular-use term, it seems, for my take on Hawk. It's usually, going off of my backlog, something I reserve for apparently 3 scenarios (none of this is intentional, by-the-by, just how the characterization shook out, I guess, I find it interesting anyhow):

1. Moments where Hawkeye's overcome in some way, doesn't feel he can or should commit to the full two-syllable hit of 'BJ'--when he's scared, or laughing, or gasping, or drunk, and so on:

“Beej?” Hawkeye asked, coming up behind him, still not touching him, like he thought he’d done something wrong. (Somewhere to Get To, ch. 14).

Hawkeye shook his head. “Kiss me. Please kiss me, Beej, I want—” (Crosswalks, Crossroads).

2. When he's trying to be soft, or offer comfort, or apologize:

HAWK (beat, regretful): Oh, I’m sorry, Beej. I didn’t mean to hurt your feelings. I was just playing. (Black Box War, ch. 6).

“I told you not to worry about me. I’m—I’m trying to show you a good time,” BJ explained, his feelings, absurdly, a little hurt. Hawkeye’s posture instantly gentled. “Oh, Beej, you are. You always do.” (Feeling's Plain to Me).

3. He uses it when BJ calls him 'Hawk' or the link to his own nickname is implied. It's a beat I hadn't realized I'd written multiple times until I went looking for it, but there it is:

BJ: Hawk. HAWK: Beej. (Black Box War, ch. 7).

“Hawk,” BJ said, stopping him before he could duck into the mess tent.  “Beej,” Hawkeye acknowledged, shading his eyes. (Aspirin or Sorrow, ch. 5).

“You thought you’d come back and it would just be like old times? Hawk and Beej? Beej and Hawk?” Hawkeye’s voice was getting steadily louder. He slurred. “It doesn’t work like that.” (Somewhere to Get To, ch. 7).

Maybe it had been a mistake to come so far into the woods. If he closed his eyes, he thought he could hear the ocean. On a windless day, the waves might be more audible. 2. thoughts on veganism?

I could rant for a while about veganism and the harm its done for the nutrition and self-esteem issues that it perpetrates in those who are hardcore believers in veganism as well as the environmental impacts it has, but I'll try to keep this as short as possible and say that I really don't like the vegan movement as a whole. It's almost completely unsustainable, entirely unhealthy for the majority of the population, and more harmful for the planet than eating meat ever could be. Its carbon footprint is enormous because everything vegan has to be shipped vast distances to its main audience and anything labeled "faux" (faux fur, faux leather, etc) is just plastic, which is worse for the environment than fur or leather (both of which will last for far longer than shitty plastic knock-offs). As a dietary craze, I despise veganism (like I despise all fad diets) and I think anyone considering a vegan diet should have a very long conversation with a nutritionist before even attempting it.

3. a specific color that gives you the ick?

I don't like most shades of orange or yellow and I'm very particular about the shades of pink that I like. I'm definitely more drawn to the cooler side of the color wheel, though I love a good red.

4. mythical creature you think/believe is real?

I want to say ghosts but I feel like that's the easy answer so I'll say Mothman. It's less of a belief and more of a hope tbh; Mothman is my favorite cryptid and I really do hope that he's out there somewhere causing havoc and flying into light posts. I would be terrified to see him in person, but the idea of him is very cute.

7. what animal do you look forward to seeing when you visit an aquarium?

All of them!! Aquariums are my favorite places in the world! I have a running, ranked list of every aquarium I've ever visited and I always look up aquariums to visit whenever I travel. My personal favorite are the big ocean tanks; I love any tank that I can sit in front of and completely forget that I'm in an aquarium at all. The Georgia Aquarium has a magnificent ocean tank that has two whale sharks and a glass tunnel through it, so it's very firmly at the top of my list.

14. do you think you’re dehydrated?

I don't think I'm dehydrated, I know I am... I spent the last three days at the beach drinking sea water instead of fresh water (on accident, I promise lmao) and I haven't fully recovered

15. rank the methods of death: freezing, burning, drowning

drowning, burning, freezing. Drowning is the fastest (I think, don't quote me on that lol), freezing is the slowest. All three are terrible ways to die and I'm terrified of all of them.

18. your boba/tea order?

I usually play around with my boba order everywhere I go (especially if they have specials, I usually go for one of those) but I tend towards fruit teas with popping pearls instead of tapioca pearls. I don't like the texture of tapioca in my mouth (literally makes me gag) and I'm lactose intolerant so milk teas do unspeakable things to my digestive system. If possible, I also get my boba with less ice because it makes eating the popping pearls a lot easier.

25. would you say you have good taste in music?

I don't know anyone who would say no to this... if you don't like your own taste in music, listen to different music lol

28. last meal on earth?

There's a chef who cooks at a restaurant in Emerald Isle, NC called Clawson's and I'd eat anything that came off of his grill. Genuinely the best meal I've ever had and I would do just about anything to go back and order off of his menu again. I don't care what he'd make; I'd eat it for my last meal and leave this life satisfied.

It sounds like a fever dream but here is my My chemical romance live experience

First things first,none of the pictures above are my own. Honestly I just vibed the entire show without thinking of getting my phone. So all of them are done by my kind friends who also attended

I nearly sobbed when I realised they are real people lol

Then Gerard stepped on the stage with a huge trench coat on and processed to nearly trip over something and all the tension was gone lmao

They started with Foundations and then played Nanana

Then Nanana but Faster

Then Gerard wanted to play it again even faster, but Frank was like "no way in hell"

THEY PLAYED BOTH BOY DIVISION AND THE HOUSE OF WOLVES

I vividly remember the Times when I was sitting in my room and listening to Boy division while thinking how great would this song go live and later reminding myself that this thing would never happen,because mcr is no longer

And hearing it live with Gerard right in front of me made my heart do couple of skips

Honestly entire setlist was very fast and all the songs besides The ghost of you and Kids from yesterday were perfect for jumping and screaming

Gee did amazing speech about war (that people are making copies out of people making copies of the war) and processed to smash and kick a printer named Stuart ✨for the arts✨

In the beginning I thought that he was destroying a water bottle lol. Then I saw on the screen that it was something like guitar amplifier. After we exited the venue my friends informed me that it was in fact a copier/printer which made much more sense tbh

I had an amazing view on the right and saw Ray all the time. And he looked so happy to perform,he was smiling the entire time and it gave me the time of my life

I also love Frank's fit. It was scene as hell

Mikey killed the entire performance,every song that he possibly could

And also,can we talk about Ray's solo during the ending of Kids? And Gerard hyping him from behind 🥺

Plus, Gee sounded so nice. He keept praising the crew, talked about the weather and called the ocean of phone lights "a Christmas"

I loved every moment of yesterday,but I still feel so weird. Like how could I stand in like 4th row from the stage and see Mcr play live. Unreal

It's one of the moments that I will cherish forever

Plus I got myself merch without standing in a huge line,because we were early in the venue so that was also cool

Shout out to the security who gave us water so that we won't die in the heat and sue them

And Gerard looked so concerned when we passed along those watter bottles from one person to another lol

It was worth waiting six years to see them live

Also, there was a support artist and guess who played guitar for them

It was also my first ever big live show. And now I understand why people love them so much. I want to attend more shows in the future for sure

i tend to purposefully try to read things that will "stick with me" in a good or fucked up way lmao so there are a lot of these. ocean vuong's on earth we're briefly gorgeous and kate elizabeth russell's my dark vanessa come to mind, as well as han kang's the vegetarian, mona awad's bunny, rufi thorpe's the knockout queen.... i have many!! sohn won-pyung's almond too, though i wouldn't exactly call it haunting? and i read it without any influence of bts tyvm... we just both have great taste 💅

the only thing that haunts me from my own writing are the grammatical errors that i miss despite my many proofreads 🤣

MY CURRENT WIP IS LDOMLT SO LIKE...... i can't spoil things 😭 have i mentioned that i have a 48-card scrivener outline for the series that i have been meticulously building upon since april??? 🫠

oh! i have also done.... insanely stupid amounts of research on things that really don't matter because i'm a perfectionist, including but not limited to: restaurants/bars/clubs/food halls/parks in seoul, flights from seoul to LA and what economy/business/first class experiences are like, the grammys (obv) and the nomination process, IP/copyright law in korea, recording studio terminology, los angeles neighborhoods and travel time between them, hotel room layouts.....

basically, if something crops up even for a second in the story, there is a very good chance i obsessively researched on it for no reason 🤣

Brothers Conflict (Passion Pink) Part 2 - Asahina Kaname Route

Okay, I'm not the most interested in Kaname since he feels like such a pervert lmao, but we'll see I guess loll. LOL I hate it when Kaname makes everything become so sexual, but I really like his voice so I'm confused😭 It's so cute how Ema is becoming more snarky with her responses to Kaname because he's so over the top with what he says lol. I love how Ukyo is the one who scolds Tsubaki and Kaname for troubling Ema with their incessant flirting, like geez to them lol! I love how Ukyo told Kaname to like get away from her forever😂😂 Anyway, I think I'm already kinda warming up to Kaname, just because on the dates, he's not so "crazy" about her and acts normal lol, but still really loving and sweet. I liked how he held her hand when she got a bit cold after the dolphin show, he probably knew she would be uncomfortable if he hugged her, so he did that at least and I think that was quite considerate of him considering how he usually acts haha. Lmao when the right option was to say that she wants to be like Kaname (kind and attentive), it was kinda cute how he laughed and thought she was cute for saying that hahaha.

Aww I love the zoo one where Ema doesn't go check out Tsubaki and Azusa filming because it's a day out with Kaname and she wants to properly spend time with him because of that. Lmao when Ema got turned off on going on the rollercoaster after Kaname said it would be wonderful to hold her hand and kiss her when it gets to the highest part on the ride lolll. Well, he didn't explicitly say her but he might as well have😂 Aww, even though I thought Ema was really reckless to overdo it looking for Wataru in the rain, but I think alike Kaname, it was really nice to see that she cares so much for the brothers that she was so obstinate about finding him before caring about herself. Okay, I died when Ema fed Kaname her Bento when they went to the park, like omggg that's so cute. He's so sweet, I love Azusa😭 Anyway, ever since I checked Kaname's VA and realised that it's Suwabe Junichi (VA for Archer from Fate/stay night), I was like, no wonder why I love his voice!! Hahaha, and yes, now I like Kaname even more loll. I'm so glad Ukyo was there to hit Kaname at the cultural festival, lmao at the things he says sometimes, like seriously, super inappropriate lol. But lmao at Kaname announcing to her classmate that he's Ema's boyfriend loll.

Like seriously, he's the adult here! Anyway, yeah I feel like the only time I liked him was around the kiss scene lol. On the other hand, I find it interesting that Ema still thinks Kaname is just playing around with her when he's kissed her and stuff. To be fair though, he's always teasing her and he's never seriously told her his feelings in a way that she would understand as not playing with her so I'd say it's more his fault, especially since she's younger and more naive, and she considers him her brother so...

Very Kaname-like to give Ema perfume for White Day and then tell her to only use it when she goes out with him haha. HAHAHA, I just realised I missed out on a funny zoo date where Kaname asks Ema what animal she thinks he would prefer compared to Juli, and she said it probably doesn't really matter to him because he likes human girls the most😂😂 I mean, it's nice that Ema finally realised her feelings when she saw Kaname with another girl and Tsubaki and Yusuke said he always does that and is never serious about any girl, but it was pretty random and sudden tbh lol. I feel like it could have been done better especially since most of Kaname and Ema's recent scenes have just been him "attacking" her lol. I'm glad that Tsubaki who is usually as playful as Kaname is, is now shouting at Kaname telling him to stop playing around with her if he isn't serious, because really, if she doesn't understand and think so, there's no point if he thinks he is serious. Oh wow, did Kaname just break his phone to prove that he's serious about her and won't talk to other people? Lol! Whaaat! Kaname quit being a monk and went to his mother's company?? Honestly though, I'm rather suspicious of this monk thing, like was he actually a host all along? Lol, I mean, we never actually got to see him do anything related to his work this whole entire route lol. Anyway, the kyodai/brother ending is really weird considering the flow of events and how Kaname kissed her and stuff for alllll those months, like that doesn't make sense!! Lol anyway doesn't matter. Btw, Kaname in the epilogue(?) is sooo hot in a suit, and omggg at Ukyo discovering their relationship in the worst way especially with how Kaname says stuff lol. Otherwise, the CG was niceeee 🥰

Overall, I loveee Suwabe Junichi's voice and I really think he made Kaname a better character than he actually was lmao. Honestly, I really enjoyed the beginning of this route and I really thought I'd love their relationship because of how forward Kaname is, but I think from the middle onwards, I lost a lot of interest because of how clunky the flow of events were, and the events themselves were rather disappointing I guess. Most of the events that happened after the kiss was mostly just Kaname "teasing" Ema and a lot of them were more uncomfortable than sexy even though his voice really made me love and hate it lolll. My heart was confused haha. Kaname does a lot of things that are a bit over for me especially since Ema isn't very receptive towards it and tells him to stop but he really doesn't and touches her quiteeee a bit, so yeah I didn't like it all that much, but at the same time I could never really understand Ema either? Lol. Like, she seemed so confused throughout the route about Kaname and I feel like she only liked him because I "chose" him through the dialogue options than because she really liked him lol. I think a lot of it was just awkward, especially her revelation that she likes him, like lady, you saw him with Hikaru before too lol, but anyway their "confession" of love to each other was also pretty underwhelming considering how frustrating their relationship was throughout the route lol. Otherwise, I loved Kaname's voice and if you ignore how much he touches Ema and says so many inappropriate crap, he's actually pretty sweet and loving. Hi anon! It’s always lovely to hear people like my metas 💛 And you’re in luck - I have not gotten this specific question before, though I have answered similar questions, and as such I will probably link those posts throughout.

Forewarning: I use the general you very liberally in this post, so like. It’s not directed at you, anon djhskdjsajs I don’t want you think my sarcasm is in response to your ask (your ask was very lovely!! 💕)

Okay. Let’s get started! The funniest thing about the (nonsensical) claim that Aang acted “entitled” to Katara’s affection is that there is no canon evidence to support it. Opponents more often than not can only bring up one (1) episode as an example of supposed “entitlement” because no other Kataang interactions in the series demonstrate entitlement from either end! Like, wow. Talk about scraping the bottom of the barrel. And I’m sure we all know what episode opponents love to propagate, don’t we?

Yep, you guessed it: “The Ember Island Players.”

From the get-go, the fact that people who vigorously oppose Kataang essentially only appeal to the contents of one episode for Aang’s supposed “entitlement” is a major indicator that, in fact, the entitlement is not truly there, and that those opponents are actually misconstruing the entire episode. I mean, if you are trying to make an argument about something but you only have one piece of “evidence” to support your claim, then a) any half-decent teacher/professor would fail you, rip and b) that’s a sign that maybe your claim doesn’t hold water. If you can’t find evidence to support it, then you’re probably looking at your case from the wrong angle. Analysis 101.

As such, I find the “entitlement” claim particularly ridiculous because opponents repeat the same faulty rhetoric over and over! The only people that might be convinced are those with confirmation bias. I’m sure that’s their audience, of course, but it’s still hilarious dfjaksdasks.

Anyways. Here’s the excerpt from the EIP transcript that opponents l o v e to spotlight with their “entitlement” claims:

Aang: Katara, did you really mean what you said in there?

Katara: In where? What are you talking about?

Aang: On stage, when you said I was just like a… brother to you, and you didn’t have feelings for me.

Katara: I didn’t say that. An actor said that.

Aang: But it’s true, isn’t it? We kissed at the Invasion, and I thought we were gonna be together. But we’re not.

Katara: Aang, I don’t know.

Aang: Why don’t you know?

Katara: Because, we’re in the middle of a war, and we have other things to worry about. This isn’t the right time.

Aang: Well, when is the right time?

Katara: Aang, I’m sorry, but right now I’m just a little confused.

Aang tries to kiss Katara.

Katara: I just said I was confused! I’m going inside. [Exits the balcony.]

Aang: Ugh, I’m such an idiot! [Puts down his head on the balcony railing.]

Opponents claim Aang’s behavior is “entitled” here for two reasons:

1) He asks Katara several questions about their relationship status.

2) He kisses her.

Before I get too far into this, we have to consider the context of the episode. Katara and Aang have this conversation after just watching 95% of “The Boy in the Iceberg,” aka Fire Nation propaganda. I have talked about the specifics of the play being imperialist propaganda here, but the gist of it is that this play is meant to demean the Gaang, to portray them as lesser and weaker than the Fire Nation. The fact that the play ends with Ozai’s victory is a stark reminder of this mentality. So: Katara and Aang have just watched this play that preys upon their insecurities and paints them as awful caricatures of their true selves. It is only natural that they would be more tense than usual. The reason I bring this up is solely to inform their conversation on the balcony, however; I don’t think their frustration solely defines what they say/do, but it’s worth keeping in mind, “Hey, they’re stressed and upset, of course this conversation might not go perfectly.”

Now, I have talked about the infamous EIP kiss before and approached all the rhetoric surrounding it like Snopes Fact Checker in this post, lmao. I did discuss in there why the kiss is wrong, which no one has ever argued against, but also why the kiss is simply a mistake: not sexual assault, not entitlement, not an unforgivable decision. I’ve copied and pasted specifically my notes on the “entitlement” claim below regarding the kiss, but if you have time, I definitely recommend the whole post jksdhjasdka (I’m quite proud of it). Anyways! Here’s the excerpt:

Claim: Aang acted entitled to Katara and her affection.

Status: False.

I’ve briefly addressed this already, but Aang backing off when Katara pushed him away is the exact opposite of entitlement. An impromptu kiss is not always indicative of entitlement. It can be, especially if the person being kissed has never expressed any interest in the person kissing them, but Katara and Aang were mutually interested in each other. They’d mutually kissed twice already by that point: in CoTL and during DoBS. The EIP kiss was inappropriate. NO ONE HAS EVER SUGGESTED OTHERWISE. But when you’re 12 and you’re already kind of in this semi-relationship with a girl you’ve been through hell and high water with (who has kissed you twice on the lips and on the cheek multiple times, not to mention it is only you she ever expresses such affection towards), it is not fucking “entitlement” to make a move on her, even when the timing is off. IT’S JUST A MISTAKE. A POOR DECISION. NOT ENTITLEMENT. NOT MANIPULATION. NOT SEXUAL ASSAULT. Full stop.

Also, these EIP people love to call Aang entitled for this kiss, but there isn’t a single peep heard from them about Zuko’s line in TSR where he demands to know what’s “wrong” with Katara, since she hasn’t forgiven him yet when everyone else has. And look. I think Zuko was just frustrated here, and that he, too, made a mistake and is obviously not irredeemable for it, but. If you’re going to argue that Aang was entitled in EIP, you’d better be ready to acknowledge the argument that Zuko was acting entitled in TSR, too. And hell, let’s take it a step further! Call Aang entitled for EIP. Call Zuko entitled for TSR. Call Sokka entitled for choosing to stay at Boiling Rock on the off chance his father would arrive, thus making Suki and Zuko feel obligated to stay behind with him, effectively putting all of them in danger. What an entitled decision, risking his friends’ lives on the 0.01% chance Hakoda would be one of the many, many possible war prisoners arriving at Boiling Rock!

Damn. That sounds ridiculous as fuck, doesn’t it?

And guess what. That’s exactly how the “Aang was entitled” arguments come across. Hate to break it to you. Trust me when I say to do yourself a favor and stop perpetuating that faulty rhetoric!

So that is what I have already assessed, lol.

To be frank, the most frustrating thing I see perpetuated is that the EIP kiss somehow ruined Aang and Katara’s relationship. But when it comes to assessing weighty issues like the notion of “entitlement” in a relationship, the fact of the matter is that you have to look at both the relationship as a whole and the context in which it is situated. Opponents never want to do that, because doing so debunks their entire (baseless) argument, lmao. Katara and Aang are best friends. And by EIP, they have both expressed romantic interest in each other multiple times. (Here is a post explaining the development of Katara’s feelings for Aang, just to put out that fire before anyone sets it lmao.)

So why, why do opponents think Katara would never find it in herself to forgive Aang for a mistaken kiss? Katara is shown over and over again throughout the series to have one of the biggest hearts. She wants to see the good in people. That’s why she gives Jet a second chance (even though a person could argue he did not “deserve” one); that’s why she helps the Fire Nation village in “The Painted Lady”; that’s why she forgives Pakku (once she sees he’s willing to change); that’s why she is the second person in the entire show (excluding Iroh) to offer Zuko a hand of kindness (in CoD)! That’s why she eventually forgives Zuko, even after all he has done to the Gaang (e.g. sending an assassin after them, being complicit in Aang’s death, attacking her and kidnapping Aang at the NWT, manipulating her with her mother’s necklace, to name a few, lmao. bless his heart, but like Jet, someone could easily argue Zuko doesn’t “deserve” another chance - and yet Katara still gave him [and Jet] one. in fact, she gave Zuko multiple).

In other words, Katara is almost always willing to extend friendship and compassion and forgiveness to others - why would she revoke that privilege from Aang after a single error that is comparatively lesser to all the other horrible things she’s experienced in the war? Again, I’m not downplaying how terrible of a decision Aang made. It’s inexcusable. But it’s not the end of the world, and considering the context of the show (e.g. Aang and Katara liked each other and they both knew it), it’s… not some heinous crime. Compared to, oh, how about attempted murder? lmaoo

Even beyond Katara’s innate kindness, Aang is Katara’s best friend. She loves him. The show portrays it as romantic through the seasons, but even if someone isn’t into shipping (which is super valid), Katara and Aang’s connection is one of the primary lynchpins of the show! (The other being Aang and Zuko, the greatest foils of all time.) Katara and Aang epitomize several of A:TLA’s thematics (and aesthetics) because they are complementary: yin and yang, push and pull, Tui and La, moon and ocean, blue and orange, water and air. This gifset and related commentary beautifully demonstrate how even when Katara and Aang disagree, they respect the other’s the decision. So after 60~ episodes depicting Aang and Katara as having mutual respect and love for each other in every form as well as emphasizing Katara’s natural inclination towards kindness/giving people the benefit of the doubt, opponents still think Katara wouldn’t forgive Aang because of one mistimed, inappropriate kiss? What?? Make it make sense, lmao.

In sum, the kiss was a mistake, not an act of entitlement, and it’s absurd to think Katara would hold that against Aang for the rest of his life.

To backtrack a bit, opponents also love to use the fact that Aang asked Katara several questions about their relationship status as examples of his “entitlement.” Just typing that out highlights the ridiculous nature of this assertion, lmao! Let me rephrase it for maximum hilarity:

“Aang was unsure about where their relationship stood? Well, how dare he ask numerous questions to resolve his confusion!”

Like, what was the alternative jskfajksdas if you are in relationship limbo with someone, it is far better to ask them ‘too many’ questions for clarification than to simply assume one way or the other! Kissing Katara was wrong, flat-out, but asking her questions to better understand where they were in their relationship was like. exactly the right decision, lmao. I genuinely don’t see how that could be indicative of entitlement? Especially because, once again, Aang and Katara both like each other and they both know that by this point in the show. That’s why Aang doesn’t ask if Katara likes him - he knows she does. That’s why Katara doesn’t negate her feelings - she knows she’s interested in him, and the blockade between them is not a lack of reciprocation, but the fact that they’re “in the middle of a war” and consequently it’s not “the right time” for them to begin a relationship. Katara has seen Aang die before! She knows he’s facing a near-impossible victory! I can’t blame her for not wanting to start a relationship with him at that point. It would hurt twice as much to lose him again if they were together in a romantic fashion (amatonormativity, am I right?). Again, Aang’s kiss was entirely inappropriate, but him asking her questions about their relationship is a) an example of fostering healthy communication and b) what any therapist would encourage, lol.

Oh, but I’m “forgetting” something, aren’t I? Right. This line:

Katara: Aang, I’m sorry, but right now I’m just a little confused.

If we want to talk about parallels, which I know the A:TLA fandom adores, this line sounds suspiciously like:

Yue: … but I like you [Sokka] too much and it’s too confusing to be around you.

Yue and Katara are actually in similar situations here. Outside forces are interfering with their relationships; for Yue, there is her arranged marriage, and for Katara, it’s the life-or-death nature of the war itself. They aren’t confused about their feelings, as Yue knows she likes Sokka and Katara knows she likes Aang, but they are confused about how to reconcile those feelings with their external circumstances. And can you blame them for that? They are facing impossible decisions (the fate of their nation and the fate of the world respectively). I would be confused, too! So Katara’s response isn’t a reaction to any so-called “entitlement” from Aang; she is experiencing genuine confusion about how to approach her own feelings for him in the midst of a war.

In sum, Aang asking questions about their relationship was a logical step to take resolving his confusion and is in no way related to “entitlement.” Katara’s confusion was not “letting Aang down easy” and interpreting it as such requires disregarding every preceding line of the conversation and its context.

As you can see, Aang’s actions in EIP are not at all “entitled.” His questions were understandable. While his kiss was inappropriate and inexcusable, it was also a mistake, and there is no canon evidence to support the conclusion Katara would never be able to forgive him (her literal best friend!) for it.

Before I end, I’ll touch briefly upon the DotBS kiss, because it is also occasionally used as an example of Aang’s “entitlement” towards Katara’s feelings. Whether you like the trope or not, this moment falls under what is called the “Now or Never Kiss.” TV Tropes actually lists Kataang/DotBS as an example under the Western Animation tab:

“Avatar: The Last Airbender: The fact that he’s finally going to face the dreaded Firelord, and possibility that he might not come back alive from that battle, gives Aang enough motivation to kiss Katara.”

Again, whether you like the trope or not, it involves reciprocation from both parties:

“The Not-A-Couple [i.e. both parties] don’t want to go out without revealing how they [i.e. both parties] really feel. It’s now or never. They kiss.”

Katara and Aang both like each other. When Aang initiates the DotBS kiss, Katara kisses him back. Her lips are still puckered when he pulls away. Furthermore, Katara had initiated a kiss with Aang prior to this incident, in CoTL. Katara was also the one to initiate every cheek kiss with Aang (who is the only character she ever demonstrated such affection towards). So Aang kissing Katara during DotBS follows an established precedent of Katara initiating different kisses, romantically inclined, with Aang. It’s not entitlement; it’s him knowing they mutually like each other and him realizing this might be the last time he ever sees her. Again, you can hate the trope, but don’t blatantly misconstrue its meaning. You’ll sound like Fire Nation propaganda, lmao. (For clarification, jic: the general you. not anon!)

Here is a fantastic post by @imreallyhereforkataang explaining the DotBS kiss in more detail as well as discussing why Kataang’s progression in the second half of Book 3 was, in fact, well-developed, and how Katara and Aang are best friends above all else and know that (which was the core of their relationship from the start).

And a bonus fun fact: in the original storyboard (link takes you to storyboarder Giancarlo Volpe’s DeviantArt with said storyboard), it is noted that Katara smiles after Aang kisses her. Why? Because she likes him as much as he likes her! It was changed by a “higher authority,” according to Volpe, probably to add more realism to the romance (i.e. Katara likes Aang, yes, but as she herself points out in EIP - there’s a war going on, and love is always terrifying to reconcile with war).

(Seriously, though, do read Volpe’s description on the storyboard. Takes you a second to scroll down and maybe a minute to read. Short yet informative, discussing how you can see on the storyboard itself that someone revised the image so Katara isn’t smiling after the kiss.)

Anyways! Opponents’ argument that Katara wasn’t interested in Aang therefore is and has always been entirely inapplicable.

To conclude: the entitlement assertion is laughable. There is no canon evidence to support it. As such, I encourage you to laugh whenever you see it! Pull an Azula, for that matter:

Akira Kurusu

— Akira would be so furious when he finds out that you have that kind of parents. He might not have the same hatred as Ryuji when it comes to adults, but he hates that kind of people who degrades other people, especially their children.

— Akira will help you, no doubt about it. He might also change their heart (whether you know it or not)! When your parents get arrested, he will beg Sojiro (I forgot this dude’s name and had to google it LMAO) to make you stay with him. Sojiro relents (with a condition of course, no nasty things 😒).

— Even though you don’t want to, Akira would force you to live with him. When you two started living together, he’ll spoil you with affection and love. He isn’t ashamed in declaring his love for you.

— Akira would have a sad and angry look on his eyes whenever you flinch. Sad that throughout your life, your parents have been abusing you. And angry that he should’ve been here earlier to save you.

— Akira might not be a therapist but he can try to be one. Just tell him everything and he won’t judge. When you start to cry, he’ll pull you in for a hug.

“Shh.. it’s okay. I’m here.” The warmth and cozy feeling of Akira’s embrace is enough to send another wave of tears. You tightly clench the back of his shirt as you sob in his chest. The moon was out as some of the light pass through the attic’s window.

Akira didn’t mind that you were staining his shirt at all. He wants you to let it all out. His brows knitted together once more when his thoughts went to your parents. Oh how he wanted to make them pay for what they’ve done to you.

“That’s it.. let it all out.” How your agony cries make his heart twist painfully in his chest. Like a knife repeatedly stabbing him. He wants to clear all of your awful thoughts. To get rid of the pain your parents brought to you. But he couldn’t. All he could do now is hold you in his embrace as he waits for you to stop.

Yu Narukami

— Yu is actually shock when he finds out about your background, then his face morph into a deadly murderous glare. Which makes the whole Investigation Team afraid of him. This is afterall their first time seeing Yu angry— no, furious.

—“P-Partner! Calm down—!” “Where are they?” “Meep—“

— Yu would immediately bring you into a warm hug when he finds you. He craddles your head behind the back as he whispers sweet nothings in your ears.

— Yu would immediately tell Dojima about what’s happening in your family. Even though you don’t want to, Yu couldn’t bear to see you suffer anymore. After they get arrested, Yu would also ask Dojima if you can move in with them. (Dojima saying yes bc he pities you too)

— Yu would immediately worry if you disappeared, his mind would be fill with endless worry because of the fact that your shadow counterpart can appear in the TV world. If it’s not, then Yu would be so grateful and pamper you with love. But if it is, Yu is already ready to take on your Shadow.

— Yu would do everything to cheer you up. When I mean by everything, everything. This boi would move heaven and earth for you. All he wants is to get rid of your painful thoughts.

“Hey, darling. Where are you?” You can hear Yu calling for you downstairs, but you couldn’t answer. You hiccup pathetically as you press your hand harder to cover your mouth, muffling your cries. You could hear your parents words still, as if they were still here. Still taunting you about how pathetic you are.

“You pathetic, good-for-nothing child! Why the hell are you crying?!” Tears were still pouring out of your eyes as the voice of your mother ring in your ears. “You’re just a bitch, why did we receive such a useless child.” Your whimper grew louder when the laughter of your father resonated through your head.

Your eyes snapped open when you felt someone near you. You bit your lower lip as you closed your eye, anticipating for the abuse. You flinch when you felt someone removing the duvet you’re under and touching you. The person quickly withdrew their hand.

You didn’t dare to open your eyes, fearing that both of your parents came back to get you. The fear crawling through your veins as you whimper a bit. You felt someone tenderly running a hand through your hair. “Shh.. it’s okay.”

You recognized the voice. You slowly opened your eyes to meet your boyfriend’s gentle and reassuring face. He was sitting on the side with his hand running through your hair. No words needed, you quickly crawl towards him, seeking his comfort. Yu immediately welcome you to his embrace.

He pets your head as you sob in his neck. His eyes glazed with tears as well as his hug tighten. “It’s okay.. their not coming back. I promise.”

Minato Arisato

— This would be the first time that the group will ever see their leader showing his emotion. Minato’s emotion is actually spiralling, he doesn’t know what to feel when he heard about your.. condition at home. His face contorts quickly from shock, angry, sad, concern and worry.

— Minato doesn’t immediately pull you into a hug, but he does open his arms for you. He’ll hug you tightly when you rush to his embrace. He doesn’t need to say anything as he nuzzle his face to your neck.

— Even though Minato doesn’t want you to be there anymore, he doesn’t have a choice. If the police takes away your parents, then where will you go? Will you also have a similar fate to him? He doesn’t want you to be an orphan just like him.

— But, even though Minato can’t bring justice to your parents just yet (lol. wrong game), he would make you move in to the Dormitory. So that he can take care of you and make sure you are far away from your toxic parents.

— Minato would glare at anyone who’ll make mean comments (Yukari 😒) or make you uncomfortable (Junpei 😒). Everyone by now knows not to mess with their leader’s s/o.

— Minato might not be affectionate but he’ll try. But, one thing is sure, he’ll always have time for you. Even though he’s tired from Tartarus, school, and Confidant rising, he’ll make time for you.

— Minato will also dote on you like the rest of the leaders. He will give you small gifts and trinkets, give you food and share his earphones with you. Even though he can’t erase all of the traumatic experience your parents gave to you, he’ll be damned that he’s trying his best.

— Minato understands if you need some alone time. And he would be so surprised whenever you flinch. He doesn’t bring it up but you can see the pain in his eyes whenever he sees you flinch.

“Can.. I come in?” Minato’s voice rang through the room. You didn’t have the energy to move from your bed, nor can you find your voice to call to him. You just feel.. nothing. Useless just like what your parents say.

You’ve already shed all of your tears, nothing is left anymore to shed as you laid motionless. Your eyes never left the ceiling, even when the door opened and closed. You could hear him walking towards you. Your eyes flickered to him before returning to the ceiling.

“Move.” Minato said, more like commanded, but he said that quietly and so gentle. You did what you were told as you roll to the side. You could feel your bed dipping slightly when Minato sat and laid down.

He made you face him as you stare at his blue-oceanic eyes. His eyes were usually cold and emotionless, but now, they were filled with admiration and sadness. He carefully place an arm around you, probably testing if you’re gonna push him away or not.

You didn’t do anything, so he took this as a sign to hug you. Your face was on the crook of his neck as you could feel his fingers running through your hair. Even though Minato isn’t talking, you could feel your eyes prickling with tears again.

Minato only held you close as you cried in his neck. He doesn’t need words afterall to express his concern to you..

Minako Arisato

— Minako might already have an idea on what’s going on with you. But that doesn’t change the fact that she’s very sad about the fact that you have that kind of parents. She might be angry, yes. But she’s more concern and worry about you than them.

— Minako would hold your hands first before hugging you. She wants to make sure you’re okay first before hugging you. Afterall, you’re wellbeing is much more important than hers.

— Like Minato, she doesn’t have any power against your parents. As much as she wants them gone (believe me, she does), she doesn’t want you to be an orphan just like her. So she makes you move in with her in the Dormitory.

— As much as Minako wants to share a room with you, she respects your privacy. But she will make sure that you’re room is next to hers so that when you need her, she’ll be immediately be there.

— Minako would dote on you like usual, except with much more love. But she wouldn’t overwhelm you! She extremely loves you and doesn’t like seeing you unhappy.

— Even though Minako can’t change what happened, she can change what happens in the future. She would make sure that nothing bad would happen to you again. Even if it means escaping the country so that you wouldn’t go back to your family.

— Whenever you flinch when she tries to hold you, she quickly retracts her hand and ask you if you’re okay.

“Thank you so much, Minako..” Minako hums as you two cuddle in bed. It was already the late of night, and you had a nightmare. Minako immediately came to your room and calmed you down. “Why’re you thank me for?”

“You know,, for.. helping me escape from my parents.” She knew that you were having a hard time coping ever since you move in with them in the Dormitory. Especially since your parents practically drill all those nasty things about you in your head. Minako just embraces you tighter and nuzzle her head on top of your head.

“What’re partners for?” She giggles as you weakly chuckle. Minako might not know what the future will hold, but if she has to choice, she’ll spend the rest of her life with you. Trying to make you happy and make up for the unhappy times.

Chapter 40: the work of loving them is worth the pain of losing them. or mortal Andy is losing her memory and i cry the entire time.

probably Extremely Uneventful Subject because, spoilers alert, it's all about andy regaining her immortality and being happy ever after with her wife, as it should be!

I've only written one! (Red) Room For 8. I do think it classifies as crazy, maybe? What do ocean's 8 and the haunting of hill house have in common? this fic!! i actually really liked it and i should probably finish it oops! plus, we get lou and theo being friendly exes so that's... something

Hmm a little. so not really. just when the fic really calls for it. for example Don't You Know? (That I'm A Moon In Daylight) helena/dinah vampire au, for reasons. and the only touchstone of truth the marla/fran backstory!

13. What’s your all time favorite ship?

oh the most difficult question ever!! listen, i have to say at least four! Andromaquynh or Andy/Quynh, is so especial because oh my god they're immortal that's endless potential! and i don't think i'll ever write 101 one shots for another ship! Damie or Dani/Jamie, because maybe I only have two stories written for them but the love i feel for them is way too much, they are perfect, favorite characters too. Heistwives or Debbie/Lou, objectively i also wrote a lot for ocean's 8, they are the reason i started writing fanfiction! and they've lasted me a long time. plus there's also the ot3 i love. and a bonus mention for my current favorite Sameena! of Sam/Deena, because they are the only thing in my mind at the moment, except maybe for Sarah/Hannah

14. What’s a WIP that you want to finish but don’t think you ever will?

Okay so I genuinely started to write a The Old Guard x Hill House AU, like I had a full chapter ready I think and I was so excited about it, spooky, angsty, emotional. but then Fear Street took over my entire life. but! I love the idea and I have a full outline so I'm sure I'll write it at some point!! hopefully before the sequel comes out lol as soon as i can look past the problematic fandom again. but! one that i really don't think i'll finish, would be a tog x ocean's 8 AU, because i didn't feel as strongly about that one, didn't have an outline, technically didn't even start to write it, probably not going to happen

15. What are your writing strengths?

i genuinely have no idea what to answer, i swear

16. What are your writing weaknesses?

uhhh i don't know? if this counts, which i think it does because it definitely affects my writing, is that i have zero discipline. and i rather die than thoroughly proofread and edit everything i write...

17. What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic?

I was going to say I don't love it but then I remembered I've done it a couple of times! I think it's nice, but when it's not overdone, just a little thing here and there. in my case, i did short sentences on one shots, which meaning can be guessed or wasn't very important to the story, so that the reader doesn't have to stop reading to look up a translation, and then at the end include the translation. it's mostly about the feeling of it, to me

18. What was the first fandom you wrote for?

Ocean's 8! and it was a 30k ot3 story because apparently i'm ambitious like that. and shortly after i started writing for the haunting of hill house!

19. What’s a fandom/ship you haven’t written for yet but want to?

Gunpowder Milkshake! I have an entire one shot already planned out but I haven't had the time :((( (fear street please let me live) and i have written for these fandoms/ships but not nearly enough!! so i'm also going to mention Dani/Jamie from bly manor and Dani/Grace from terminator dark fate. let's not overthink why i love so many ships that include a character named dani jgkhghk

I have many favorites but I'm going to be completely honest here and say that it's my heart (is like a haunted house) my Andromaquynh Ghost AU!
