Oikawa is CEO of sleepovers

everyone knows he’s big on team bonding and bringing out the best of his team so why not get the team together and get them to spill their deepest, darkest secrets

he’s the most prepared mf istg

when the team gets to his house, he’s already laid out the face masks that come in 7 different colours with lofi music in the background

this man comes off as whiny but he’s actually so smart and knows just how to set the mood to get them to open up

everyone is cautiously making their way into his living room and settling onto the couch

“Oi, Shittykawa, what are you up to?” Iwaizumi starts

“oh Iwa-chan~ stop being so suspicious and just sit down.”

the boys collectively decide on the blue face mask because of their team colour and are impatiently waiting for it to dry

In the meantime, Oikawa is taking pics of everybody to update his fans on twt and Instagram !!

No one is amused

Kindaichi is just sitting there anxiously because he wants to please his upperclassmen and Mattsun and Maki are teasing Oikawa about how lame the sleepover is

and then the team is arguing about what they should do instead and everyone is pitching ideas until...

they decided on an arm wrestling challenge

and ofc Kyotani is taking this opportunity to beat his upperclassmen at some strength challenge 

Despite Oikawa’s protests, the team was all for it

they even put a bet on it: whoever loses all the challenges has to treat the rest of the team to ramen

and an arm wrestling challenge evolves to a push up challenge and everyone is really into?? except flattykawa because the lofi music did NOT fit the atmosphere no more

and Iwa-chan is dominating the competition ofc

But like?? Mattsun is a close second?? And Kyotani too!

and the lifting challenge? they’re lifting any object they can find in Oikawa’s house

it’s a mess because no one is putting the objects back in its original spot so Oikawa is trying his best to fix it instead of joining the competitions

BONUS: because Oikawa refused to participate, he was the default loser and was forced to buy everybody ramen (im so sorry i love you Oikawa)

They REALLY thought they could escape Kita’s cold demeanor if they didn’t invite him to the sleepover??

Nahhhh bb. Aran was ON that real quick

So when the twins were fighting over absolutely nothing, Kita burst in through the door, staring dead in their eyes

Suna was already calling an Uber out of there because he didn’t want to go in the first place

his current concern is LITERALLY how he doesn’t want to be caught up in the twins’ antics so why would he stick around for the scolding

so while Suna is calling an uber and shouting profanities in his head about the situation, Atsumu and Osamu are trying to put on their best innocent faces

Hitoshi is not having it and he’s praising the twins for their chaotic behaviour to which Kita turns his attention to him

the sleepover becomes a boot camp tbh

and it just happens. Kita and Aran don’t even know why they’re doing this and the team just follows suit because it’s the new vibe

the twins are fighting over who is actually doing better in the KiRan Bootcamp for Chumps and it turns into a full blown competition

but you see, Kita takes this as an opportunity to get them to take care of themselves

Akagi is just trying to maintain his friendly persona and encouraging everyone to do well but Kita is kicking his butt for being a wuss and now they’re having a cooking competition??? 

whoever makes the healthiest meal wins

okay OF COURSE Osamu wins who are we kidding 

but now whoever scarfs it down first is the winner and Atsumu is like “yes this is rematch time!” 

and smh Osamu wins again because our food addict here is thriving 

so Kita has managed to trick them into eating a healthy and hearty meal so what’s next

the rest of the team is eating THEIR meals with Suna grumbling agan but he’s lowkey enjoying the chaos 

and Aran is on the same boat as Kita and he suggests a vball competition (but he’s thinking about how he can turn this into extra practice for his boys)

ok this is a rematch fr

all the boys are trying to show off their best form in regards to their position and it just looks so silly because they’re trying so hard in the middle of a living room

And Atsumu is a perfectionist so he was precise and accurate with each position and he won

Basically the entire team was done with the twins’ bs and just let them win but no one got any sleep and the whole night was just useless competitions made up by Kita and Aran

BONUS: the prize was a tofu hamburger Kita brought over as a snack and the whole team groaned in frustration

ok I just know Shiratorizawa would try to have the most wholesome sleepover and Tendou would be the one setting it all up

he genuinely wants to have a normal sleepover okay? 

so here they are, sitting in a circle drinking their tea and snuggled up in their pajamas when Tendou brings up “tea time”

He even has a talking stick and everything but the “talking stick” is a vball keychain

And you think okay, so everybody is adorable like that we’re just gonna have a normal heart-to-heart

And it honestly starts out like that

Tendou is telling stories about his friendship with Ushijima and how it’s made him comfortable with himself

But Shirabu took the talking stick and went “I don’t like Goshiki’s hair”

And all hell breaks loose

Goshiki is like “tf you say about my hair?? Look at your mf bangs??” But he’s secretly crying inside and sneaking looks at Ushijima in hopes of gaining the favour of the ace

But then Ushijima grabs the keychain and he’s like “I just want Oikawa to come to Shiratorizawa”

And Goshiki is like ON THE VERGE OF TEARS

and then Semi is like “well since we’re on the topic of what we want, I want my setter position back. I don’t want to give it to some inexperienced player who won’t even listen to my advice”

And now everyone just wants to throw hands because it’s so shady

And Tendou is lowkey loving it because he rejoices in the soul breaking of others

And tbh, I think Tendou secretly wanted this to happen

Ohira really is trying to calm everybody down before this stupid game breaks up the entire team

But Goshiki and Shirabu are deadass about to throw hands

And Ushijima is preaching about whoever the strongest is will win

And Goshiki just wants to make his senpai proud and he goes hard

Semi is secretly cheering for Goshiki because Shirabu stole his spot

Tendou is videotaping the entire thing for ahem future purposes (like soul crushing purposes)

But yo it’s the match of the century

BONUS: everybody went to sleep before the match ended so no one knew who won and that lead to another war not long after

did the discord just start going off an angst earlier? yes. did I start thinking about s3 angst between Gary, Little Cato, and Avocato? yes. so did I write this? absolutely :)

Ever since the Crimson Light went into Final Space, Avocato has been very confused.

Which is to be expected, seeing as how he died and then was brought back to life only to be possessed right up until he was flung into a nightmare dimension with his friends and a bunch of strangers.

Was everything explained to him? Yes, Gary and Little Cato did an...enthusiastic retelling of the events. But is he still utterly lost? Oh, absolutely.

Avocato has never been someone who likes being in the dark, so their current situation has put him seriously on edge for the past few weeks. He doesn't know what to expect in this new environment with a new crew, and the new developments between a certain two have to be the most unexpected parts of this whole thing if he's being honest.

"Hey, Dad?" Little Cato asks, peering his head around the entrance way into the bridge.

"Yes?" Avocato says at the same time as Gary says, "Yeah, buddy?"

The two men look at each other, and Gary flicks his eyes away when he notices the slight annoyance in Avocato's expression.

The kid doesn't even bat an eye at the very slight tension in the room. "Do you wanna go do something in the arcade?"

Avocato watches as Gary smiles and jumps up, bounding over the kid to ruffle his hair and smirk. "Oh, you wanna get beat again, little man?"

Little Cato smirks back, crossing his arms, "Oh, you're wrong on that. I'm gonna beat you so good, Thunder Bandit!" Then, he turns towards Avocato. "Dad, you coming?"

The Ventrexian stays silent for a moment, staring at the way Gary's hand naturally sits on top of his son's head and how Little Cato's tail wraps around Gary's leg unconsciously. The two of them interact like they've known each other for years, not the few months that Avocato knows it's been.

"No thanks," he states plainly.

Little Cato's face falls slightly almost in tandem with Gary's doing the same. "Are you sure?" the human asks, raising an eyebrow. "We could fit a game of cards in?"

He shakes his head. "I'm good."

Gary and Little Cato glance at each other, then together, they walk out of the room. Almost instantly, Avocato can hear their distant excited chatter over what games to play and the two of them playfully egging each other on.

His best friend adopted his son. That's a reasonable thing to do when someone dies, but Avocato is more than alive now. Yes, he asked Gary to take care of him, and he's grateful that his friend took on that responsibility....

But now? There isn't any reason why Gary should still be in that role.

A blooming anger forces a low growl from Avocato as he ruminates on the bridge.

Avocato yawns as he walks out of the bridge after his shift, Tribore taking his place. He is so ready to sleep in his room and not think about the floating corpses that he sees every second of the day.

As he's marching tiredly to his room, he hears some quiet talking in the hallway up ahead. He stops in his tracks and sneaks towards the corner to see who's there. He leans out from his hiding spot, only for Gary and Little Cato to be in his sight.

He freezes in place, watching as Gary cards a hand through the boy's fur. His friend is holding the boy tight to his chest as Little Cato clings to Gary's shirt, trembling fiercely. The shine of tears glisten on the kid's cheeks under the dim light of the ship's hallway, and Avocato frowns.

Little Cato hiccups, burying his head into Gary's stomach miserably.

"It's okay, bud. Let it all out," Gary soothes. "You're on the Crimson Light with me. We're both alive, and you're not alone. You're safe, okay?"

"I'm–I'm safe," Little Cato tries to say in between sobs.

Gary nods, rubbing the Ventrexian's back. "Yeah, you're safe with me."

The kid takes a few more moments to calm down, then he loosens his grip on Gary's shirt and hugs him instead.

"Do you know how you got here?" Gary questions softly.

"I had a nightmare about...," his son mumbles too quietly, so Avocato misses what he says. "I woke up and went to get you, then you brought us out here in case I woke anyone up."

Little Cato specifically wanted Gary?

"Good job, can you tell me anything else?" his friend encourages softly.

"I'm fourteen. You're thirty-two. You're real. We're in Final Space."

"There you go!" Gary smiles fondly at the boy. "Feeling more grounded?"

The boy nods, and Gary plants a soft kiss to the top of Little Cato's head. He snuggles into his adoptive dad as Gary starts rambling about something random.

Avocato finally stops his spying, disgruntled that he feels like a stranger over checking into his own son's well being. He glares at the wall across from him and walks away.

The next morning, the only sign that Little Cato was ever upset is the way Gary is extra affectionate towards the kid. Neither of them talk about it.

The anger in Avocato's chest grows.

The more Gary and his son interact, the more annoyed Avocato is.

He needs to fix this. His relationship with his son was going to be rough to navigate through, and Avocato was well aware of that fact. But this is ridiculous, the kid is with his friend more than his biological father.

Right now, Little Cato is in his room according to the weird girl.

Avocato strides down the hallway, then knocks on the kid's door. Little Cato opens it after a few seconds, and his blank expression turns into excitement when he sees his dad.

"Hey, Dad! What's up?"

"Well, I was thinking that we could do a little father-son bonding," Avocato says, smiling at his son.

The boy lights up, pumping a fist in the air. "Yes! That is tight! I'll go grab Gary!"

Avocato's face scrunches up in confusion, and he grabs his son's shoulder before he can run off. He laughs awkwardly as the kid stops and tilts his head. "I was thinking just the two of us?"

"But...you said father-son bonding?"

Little Cato's confused expression shockingly resembles Gary's, and he tries to ignore it.

"Just us today. It'll be just like old times, right?"

His son still looks confused, and maybe even a little worried, but he puts on a smile anyways. "Um, okay. What are we doing?"

Avocato smiles, knowing that his son is going to love this. He leads him to the weapons room and spreads his arms out, gesturing towards the array of guns set out.

"We're gonna fix these babies up, just like we used to!"

Avocato's ecstatic smile drops when he sees the boredom already on his son's face, but Little Cato scrambles to appear excited when he notices his father looking at him.

"Well," Avocato says, at a loss for words for one of the first times in his life, "Let's, uh, get going!"

They both sit down and begin working in silence. Avocato is content enough with the calm quiet and rudimentary cleaning and replacing of parts. Little Cato, on the other hand, looks like he'd rather be anywhere else.

"Hey, that's a GXV-76 over there. You always wanted one of those, so I'll let you deal with that one," Avocato says, knowing that his son will at least enjoy that.

Instead of the expected reaction, his son stiffens as he sees the gun, and he laughs nervously. "You can do that one. I'm kinda over those now, anyways."

"Well, what's your new favorite blaster, then?"

Little Cato shrugs. "Dunno, haven't really thought about it much."

Well, that's new to Avocato. His son not being obsessed with weapons of all kinds? Come to think of it, the gun he uses now is one that he had no interest in previously.

They fall into an awkward silence again.

"So, uh, what's some stuff you did before all of this?" Avocato tries to ask, hoping he doesn't come off as pushy.

"Other than trying not to die, a bunch of stuff. Ash taught me how to paint nails. Gary's been giving me homework and stuff since there isn't a school in this area." Little Cato laughs at his own joke. "Oh! Gary and I play this game called—!"

"How about something that doesn't involve Gary?" Avocato cuts in, a little too forcefully. "Something that's just Little Cato."

The young Ventrexian's face falls, the excitement draining from his eyes. He shrugs. "I don't know? Everything's been so hectic lately, and when we were first on the ship, I was with Gary most of the time."

The conversation falls as Avocato's increasing frustration with this bonding activity makes its presence known. This is not going according to plan.

Does Gary really have that much of an influence over his son?

As if the universe just wants to make Avocato's life as difficult as possible, Gary happens to walk by the room. The blond stops as he notices them, bounding into the room with a bright smile on his face.

"There you two are! I've been looking all over for you!" Avocato doesn't miss how Little Cato brightens like the rising sun when Gary comes. "You two wanna get in on a team squad BS game?"

His son leaps out of his seat, running up and doing a weird handshake with Gary. The two of them laugh when they finish, and Avocato's chest tightens.

Gary's smile turns towards his best friend, the signature Gary Goodspeed smile that Avocato knows from back when everything made sense.

"What d'you say, buddy? Ready to get beat by me yet again?"

He smiles tightly. "Oh, just you wait, baby. I'll finish this up and be there in a few."

His son nods and bounces out of the room, trailing on Gary's heels to go be with the rest of the crew.

The anger morphs into rage.

Another night of Little Cato going to Gary for comfort over him, even though they were in the same room at the time.

Little Cato has a panic attack one day, and Gary is the one to calm him down.

They dance to some music called Loggins.

Little Cato wrestles and spars with Gary.

Gary ruffles his son's hair.

Gary plays games around the ship with his son.

Gary is the first to praise his son when he does something impressive.

The rage consumes him.

"Gary, we need to talk about something."

The blond turns around, an open expression on his face. "Yeah? What's up, man?"

Avocato doesn't sit down across from Gary. He stands over him, a deep frown on his face.

"You can stop fathering Little Cato, you know."

Gary's face scrunches in confusion—just like Little Cato—as his mouth opens and closes as he tries to process his friend's words. He moves his hands around aimlessly, not knowing how to react.

Finally, he speaks, "What?" Confusion laces his voice.

"I know that you had to do it while I was gone, but now that I'm back, you can step back now, Gary. You don't have to do everything for him anymore," Avocato states.

Gary laughs incredulously. "Avocato, I don't think I can just stop being his dad."

"Yes, you can! It's simple!" he growls in frustration.

Gary stands and stares into Avocato's eyes, searching for something within them. He looks for a solid few seconds, and he steps back when he doesn't find what he's looking for, his face portraying the definition of devastation.

"You're serious?"

"Yes, why would I joke about this?"

Gary splutters. "Because you sound ridiculous! Do you even know what you're saying?!"

"Gary! Yes! I can parent him on my own, just like it was supposed to be before everything!" Avocato shouts.

"I can't just stop," his friend says sadly. "It'll crush the kid to lose another person."

The Ventrexian waves off his concerns, rolling his eyes. "He's a tough kid, he'll get over it."

Gary crosses his arms, lifting an eyebrow as a challenge. Avocato glares at him in response, not appreciating how Gary has been way too eager to keep his son so far.

"Do you really know that, Avocato? You haven't been around the kid in over three years; he's not the son you knew anymore," he states calmly. "He–he won't react the way you think he will, trust me, buddy."

Avocato scoffs. "Yeah, the reason why I don't know my own son anymore is because you changed him! He doesn't even care about GXV-76's anymore, and he loves them!"

Gary stops at that. "Is that the yellow gun? With the curved handle?"

He huffs in response, nodding his head as his rage continues to grow.

His friend groans, burying his bead into his hands and then throwing them out with frustration. "He tried to kill himself with that gun! This is why I'm trying to tell you that you don't know anything about him anymore!"

"He what?" Avocato whispers, glaring at Gary in shock. Fury overcomes him as he shouts, "No wonder the boy is so fucked up. The only reason I don't know my son anymore is because of you!"

"Avocato—"

"No!" He's seething, his chest rising erratically. "Gary, this is my job, and I don't want you to keep taking my kid away from me!"

Gary's face is white as a ghost, his hands shaking. "I just want to help you guys, that's all. Isn't it better to have more people in the kid's corner? Helping out?"

"Help is fine, but you're not doing that," he growls. "You can't take my son away from me!"

"...Dad?"

Gary and Avocato whip their heads towards the doorway, and there stands Little Cato, Mooncake trailing behind him. The boy's eyes are dilated, fear reflecting across his face.

"What's going on?" Little Cato whispers, his voice shaking.

"Don't worry about it, buddy. It's just a dad to dad conversation," Gary says, somehow managing to sound calm.

"But—"

Gary smiles encouragingly at the boy, but the kid just keeps looking between Avocato's angry and surprised face and the other man. "It's okay, Spidercat."

Avocato groans, "This is what I'm talking about, you need to stop!"

"Okay, Avocato, this is clearly not the time," Gary tries to reason, and for some reason, he's still so fucking calm.

"Tell me what's going on," Little Cato pleads, walking up to his dads.

"Buddy, it's fine—"

"No, you two are upset—"

"And I said it's—"

"Tell me, please!"

"Spidercat, not now—"

"Yes, now—"

"Enough!" Avocato roars, silencing them both instantly. Both of their shocked faces—they look so alike—turn towards him. "Boy, get the hell out of here!"

Little Cato flinches back at his dad's tone, full of rage and hatred and weeks of pent up emotions, and tears pool in his eyes. Avocato hears gasps from the hallway, and he turns towards the other members of the ship all crowded around the doorway.

His attention is brought back to Gary when the man grabs him by the shoulder, heatedly forcing him to turn around. Avocato's glower drops from his face when he sees one on Gary's, the emotion of pure fury looking wrong and foreign on the generally happy guy's face.

"Don't you ever yell at him like that again," Gary says, quiet and strong like an incoming storm. Avocato notices that Little Cato has moved to stand next to Gary. "This kid is the best thing that will ever happen to either of us, okay? He's my son as much as he is yours, whether you like it or not. If he gets the chance to have more than one parent, I will never take that opportunity away from him."

Little Cato's head whips up to stare at Gary in what looks to be fright, then he stares at Avocato in shock. "You don't want him to be my dad anymore?"

The raw hurt in his son's voice causes Avocato to falter in his rage, pausing momentarily before continuing on his rampage. "You have me now! And all you've been doing is spending time with him over me! I barely know you anymore!"

Little Cato shakes his head, his face absolutely distraught.

Gary moves to stand slightly in front of his son, something that Avocato cannot let slip from his notice. "Avocato," Gary says calmly. "Come on, man! Let's not fight, you're obviously upset and not thinking straight."

"You stole my son away from me!"

"He didn't steal me," Little Cato says firmly, his voice cracking. It slows his anger. "I want both of you to be my dads!"

Something inside of Avocato—something fierce and powerful and conflicting, that feels almost familiar—sparks. His glare sharpens as he growls, throwing his arms out furiously. A culmination of everything, especially the way his own son is cowering behind the man that stole him away, lights that spark.

"You would choose him over your own father?!" Avocato screams, guttural and full of rage like the force of a typhoon.

The sound almost echoes, fading into a dead silence. Little Cato and Gary have blank expressions on their faces, but his son's quickly turns into one of horror as he steps out from behind Gary and—

Avocato is frozen in place, staring down the barrel of a gun that must not have been one that Little Cato tried to commit suicide with, because his son has a gun pointed directly at his chest. Little Cato's face is a mix between terrified and determined, his eyes sharp, yet they almost have the appearance of being empty. The tears shine against his fur where they fall. No one is making a sound or moving, the tension almost tangible.

"Little Cato," Avocato breathes, shocked beyond belief.

"I'm not letting you shoot him again!" his boy screams, his arms shaking from holding his gun so tight.

Avocato glances to Gary, who also looks horrified at the kid in front of him. The blond slowly moves to be in front of Avocato, and Little Cato's facial expression stays the same. Gary gently kneels down in front of his son and whispers, "Buddy, it's Gary. Everything's okay, no one is trying to kill anyone."

The boy shakes his head. His eyes remain glossed over. "No no no, he's gonna kill you! He's mad at you and me and he's gonna try to kill us," the kid cries.

"We're on the Crimson Light. Avocato and I just got into a bit of an argument—," Gary takes this pause to glare at the Ventrexian who's still frozen in spot. "—that got pretty heated. Something upset you, but everything is fine right now."

Little Cato sobs. "No, he's gonna kill you! He thinks you stole me from him!"

Gary takes in a shaky breath. "No, he doesn't, Spidercat. You can put down the gun."

"But—"

Gary gently places his hands on top of Little Cato's, pushing it down to face the floor when the boy offers no resistance to the motion. The gun clatters to the floor as Little Cato's grip slackens. His eyes focus again, and he starts blinking rapidly through the tears. He glances at the two men in front of him, his eyes widen, then he bursts into sobbing as he falls to the ground. Gary catches him and holds him protectively in his arms, quickly whispering reassurances and comforting words to him.

Avocato steps back, his eyes wide and breath coming fast as everything that has happened comes crashing into clarity. He did this to his son.

"Gary, I—," Avocato starts, but Gary's heated glare shuts him up.

"Don't say a single word right now," he orders, his voice staying scarily calm.

He stands, picking up Little Cato into his arms and holding the boy's head to his shoulder. He tosses a sideways glance towards Avocato, making the Ventrexian back away from them. As Gary enters the hallway, the crew parting to let him through, a sobbing boy in his arms, he stops.

Everything is silent for several moments other than the sound of crying, then Gary says in a frigid voice, "None of you let him out of here."

He walks away with Little Cato, and Avocato falls to his knees, punching the ground with a shaking fist.

The rage dies.

"I don't even think I could possibly tell you how mad I am right now," Gary says, the rage buried within the usually easygoing man making itself clear.

Avocato doesn't lift his gaze from his hands in his laps as he sits hunched over on a bench.

Gary sighs and slams down in the spot next to him. "If you ever try to do that to Little Cato again, I will not hesitate to snap on you."

"Noted," Avocato says.

The two stay silent as Gary leans back and crosses his arms. Avocato doesn't want to see the anger on Gary's expression because of the guilt swirling viciously inside of him, and his friend's reaction will only make it worse.

Would Gary even want to be his friend after this?

"I'm sorry."

"You should be."

Avocato wants to voice his need to apologize to his son, but Gary probably knows that and won't let him even near the kid. Honestly, Avocato agrees. He hurt his son badly and his best friend, too.

A sniffle makes him finally look at Gary, only to see the blond wiping tears away.

He reaches a hand out, maybe for comfort, but retracts it almost immediately. "Gary—"

"I had Ash and Fox hide all of the guns on the ship while Little Cato cried himself to sleep again. I had to tell him that it wasn't his fault that he pulled a gun on his father again," Gary whispers, his voice cracking again. He finally looks at Avocato, and the stress on his face makes Avocato's heart clench. "That it wasn't his fault that you didn't want me to be his dad anymore.

"It doesn't matter if we don't agree on parenting decisions or whatever, Avocato. The kid isn't gonna see it like that. He's been through so much, he can't lose a dad again. I don't care if you don't want me to do it, and I can't blame you for it...but he isn't the son you knew. You have to accept that."

Then he walks away, almost stumbling from how mentally exhausted he has to be.

A large part of his brain knows that Gary will never forgive him for the way he has treated Little Cato, and he deserves that. He may not've had a strong relationship with his boy, but now they're starting from square one.

A tear slips down his cheek, and he wipes it away with his thumb.

OK SO FIRST OF ALL CAN I JUST SAY, LITERALLY THE ENTIRE PART BEFORE BAZ SHOWED UP IN PERSON I WAS ALL “fellas is it gay” AT LIKE, ALL OF SIMON’S INTERNAL MONOLOGUE REGARDING BAZZY BOI AND THEN WHEN HE DID FINALLY SHOW I WAS ALL “fELLAS—” LIKE EVEN HARDER AND THEN. “I’m hopelessly in love with Simon Snow. ‘Hopelessly’ being the operative word.” NONNIE WHEN I SAY I HAD TO PHYSICALLY STOP MYSELF FROM SHRIEKING.

GOD BAZ IS SO DRAMATIC AND GAY™️, I LOVE HIM, MY SON, MY BOY, I WOULD GIVE HIM THE WORLD IF I COULD,

*clears throat* not to ramble about just one character or anything but I have a type apparently (and nobody is surprised). Also, love that Baz plays violin like me. Truly, he is a being of Class.

I also absolutely adored the tongue-in-cheek, Office-camera-stare lines that were included as, like, DIRECT digs at R*wling and Harry Potter. Like how Simon was all “nobody loves magic like me” and just about all of his interactions with the Mage and how he very much didn’t want to get tied into one family early on (no shade to the weasleys but. um.), especially if that family was Old Blood. So much of it felt like direct digs at Harry Potter and it was GLORIOUS, the PETTINESS, the sPI T E, like that’s the shit I can get behind in a book. Made me cackle whenever I saw it happen. It was also so…self aware? Way more self aware than I thought it would be, I was absolutely delighted.

I feel like I should go off about other characters now, and I will be getting more into Baz in the process, but let’s start with Simon. The Chosen One. Maybe it’s because he’s 18 (19?) when th e book starts, but he feels like a drastically different protagonist than Harry (sorry, I’ll be making a lot of references to Harry Potter cuz Carry On is a better version of Harry Potter). He’s like, very distinctly not dumb (given that he can work his way through the Records solo fairly easily and also retain and use that information), but he’s also admitted that he chooses not to think. It’s self-preservation more than anything and GOD I could write character study after character study on him (on all of them, really, and hhhhhhh I love that most of all), but I won’t subject you to the full version in this. Cliff Notes version: he’s clearly lived through some shit, knows enough not to trust the Mage fully but not enough to not turn to him at all, shows his humanity in his clumsiness and I love him. My boy. My sOn.

Penny’s up next!! GOD the love I have for my daughter Knows No Bounds. She really doesn’t have any time for bullshit, does she? Well, not any bullshit that isn’t her own. But she also knows how to set her bs aside and focus, and that’s GREAT. (Side note, I loved that Simon’s internal prejudices were addressed in how they became friends. Brought up, addressed swiftly, and promptly shot tf down. Delightful.) Penny is smart enough to figure shit out pretty quickly, but also inventive enough to try new things and fuck up in the process. She’s fierce and defensive and tHE ADDRESSING OF THE BECHDEL TEST TOWARDS THE END OF THE BOOK WILL NEVER NOT BE FUNNY TO ME, KTHNXBAI.

Agatha!! Hm. Agatha. I was prepped to dislike her purely off her name, doubly so when it was heavily implied that she was cheating on Simon with Baz. As it stands now, I don’t understand her nearly as well as I’d like to, but I support her 100%. She’s seen some fucked up shit!!! And when she saw her chance to make a choice for her, when she decided to do what she wanted, she fucking went for it. You go girl. Live your best life in California. I legitimately hope she’s doing well.

Of the main four, that brings me to Bazzy Boi. I’ve already said he’s my son, and I stand by that, cuz I have a special soft spot for assholes who are far less assholish than they appear at first glance. Doubly soft for assholes who are assholes out of a cripplingly low sense of self worth (and if they get a boost of self worth later on in their story??? FUCK YEAH). Plus he’s a musician, and sarcastic, and a Disaster Gay™️–literally me!! Except I’m less of an asshole. Unless I really know you. He’s also a mamas boy and I can’t understand that but I love and support him regardless. I also absolutely ADORE Ebb and Fiona, kthnxbai,

The plot itself was serious, but the story never took itself too seriously. I mentioned the petty digs at R*wling and the brief fourth wall break with the Bechdel test earlier, but also the way Penny was all “yeah everyone is gonna be busy for Christmas, check back in after Boxing Day” was so nice. I don’t even know really why, except maybe I do, and it’s because it shows the characters having desires and motivations outside of “accomplish this goal or It’s The End Of The World”. They’re people, not just plot vessels, and that’s so fucking refreshing to see. It was also really nice to see Simon saying no to the Mage really early on and having that stance validated and respected.

Fancy book talk aside (or as fancy as I ever get), yALL SNOWBAZ IS LITERALLY ALL MY FAVORITE SHIP DYNAMICS ROLLED INTO ONE!!?!??!?!??!! Finally, the ending. That. Ending. Though. I love that Rowell addressed how accidentally killing a dude would have possible legal consequences, and that Simon’s PTSD is addressed and he’s seeing a therapist, and basically how it shows four not-quite-adults dealing with the aftermath of some fucked-up shit happening to and around and because of them. That was so beautiful. Penny and Simon moving in together was also really nice too, especially since he and Baz are now dating and they’re gonna need some space to figure out how that new dynamic is gonna work. It was so nice to see ;w;

Y'all this is it. The end-end. The last recap, at least for Fantasy High.

I honestly could have gotten this up yesterday but I wanted to give myself a hot sec before it was really over. 

But, no way out but through. Let’s get to it. 

We start back up right where we left off with no break in between. Cast still freaking, Brennan still gaping.

Anyway, Kristen once again appears in corn heaven and she’s very not chill about it. Been there, done that, got the t-shirt. On the plus side, she runs into Doreen in heaven who is young and hot again (which I’m sure Fig would appreciate knowing) and also apologizes for her traumatizing speech to Adaine during her death.

Helio playing beer pong. I wonder if that was always a facet of his personality or if Brennan just decided to yes-and all of Ally’s suggestions of him being a frat bro.

The angels being like, “Please be nice to God. He’s our dad,” was kinda adorable. 

“Why are you dressed like a weird stripper?”/“It’s too hot in here. He’s the sun!”

So while the gang has been living out Breakfast Club + Stranger Things, Aguefort has been Weekend and Bernie’s-ing Heaven apparently. I want to say wild, but tbh that’s pretty on brand for him. The wild part is that he was able to knock out GOD. Like, how even?

Aguefort tells Kristen that Sol is one god of many and she says, “Cool, I always thought that,” as if this is new information but, living in a D&D world, shouldn’t she definitively know that already? Like, the gods in fantasy worlds are pretty blatant about letting their presence be known and there are clerics/paladins who aren’t Heleoic but still have powers. 

OK I have a bone to pick with Ms. Kristen Applebees. You get a chance to talk to the primordial source of all divine power and magic and you (1) ask who you’re allowed to bone and (2) create a TERRIBLE god. Just truly TRASH. She created a reaction gif god. It’s not even a physical representation of the concept. Like, I thought she meant something like Yass from Wreck it Ralph 2 but no. Just a literal Yes! Like, you can trash talk Helio when you come up with something better, girl. Also, wild that you can just…walk into a room and do that. Like you have to knock out Sol first but still. Wild.

“You’ve created a new deity and already you’re fed up with it. I would say that’s par for the course.”

I low key thought Kristen was going to get the option to deify herself. I think because I had just rewatched The Gamers: Dorkness Rising and that figures in to the plot. But, thinking about it, she wouldn’t have gone for that I don’t think.

Aguefort flipping out at Kristen saying that friendship is the greatest magic of all, and rightfully so. That’s BS.

Since when does Kristen have dog tags?

Anyway, as we all suspected, the chronomancy line from episode 1 wasn’t a random line of dialogue, it was a chekhov’s gun. 

I mentioned this in an earlier post. Brennan didn’t seem too concerned that the party was wiping and I think this is why. I think he had two paths for this fight to take. In one, Riz successfully rolled for police and like 6 helpful NPCs plus his mom show up. That’s enough to beat the dragon without dying and Aguefort shows up having Die Hard-ed his way out of heaven. In the other, Kristen dies, goes to heaven, and basically that same series of events happens. Chronomancy saves the day. I think he was shocked because the roll dovetailed so perfectly with the story beat. 

“Is Arthur Aguefort black? Hell yes. My brotha.” Gonna be honest, I basically had that same reaction when they showed his character portrait in ep 1.

Kristen and Arthur jump back into the battle and Arthur gets possessed by Mr. Gibbons. I guess he’s just been hanging around as a ghost this whole time? Because this seems to lend credence to the theory that that’s who possessed Fig in the arcade but didn’t we see him go to the afterlife (which, I have a question about that too later). But I feel like that must have been Brennan’s way of sidelining him for the fight so they didn’t have like a level 20 wizard making it too easy.

“Oh, and Jawbone!” Murph loses it. 

Jawbone stuck in Goldenhoard’s mouth like that meme of the dog smiling, stuck in a fence.

Gorthalax is like, “I don’t feel great sleeping next to this dude.” Fig meanwhile is all, “I wanna sleep between his legs.” She says this at least twice. 

So everyone just have a freaking picnic and takes a nap in the middle of this fight. Can’t say I saw that coming exactly.

Fabian tries to stab Dayne, who is already dead, during the time stop.

“What the fuck do they teach you at this school?”

“Are you talking about the time thing or–”/“Yeah Gorgug! The time thing!.”

“We’re gonna kill this motherfucker, sweetie.”

I love Sklonda so much.

Jawbone is a salad guy.

OK so I know people were shipping Sklonda and Gilear and it was like, “But how would that work with the height difference?” so Brennan, the absolute madman, decides to pair her with the GIANT DEMON???

Adaine about Gilear: Cucked again.

“It’s basically Jeb Bush’s Campaign.” Ally, with the fury of 1000 suns: EXCUSE ME?

Adaine, who has all the wisdom and intelligence points of the entire party at the moment: You need to stay safe because the reason that we died is that you died. 

The shot that shows everyone on the giant dragon and then the foreground fuzzes out and shows Adaine a safe distance away in the background is hilarious. 

Ice guitar pick. Sweet.

Yeah, Siobhan really shoulda got healing potions out of her jacket, not the freaking wand. Hilarious. The only thing helpful about that was it hinted he was vulnerable to frost damage which they could have guessed. 

I wonder what Brennan had in his notes about the freaking city in Adaine’s jacket. It’s wild they weren’t more curious about that.

I low key loved Emily buffing Murph the whole fight.

“Hell yes Sklonda!”

Ragh: Giving a gay pride speech./Adaine, who doesn’t want to get knocked out again: STAB HIM IN THE DICK DUDE.

I’ve been keeping up with the fanart but there was some in here I hadn’t seen and it was super dope!

I’m so glad we had the after epilogue-epilogue. It was a very nice send-off.

okay everyone i have requests piling on up but good old clinical mental health problems™ are kind of yikes

but royalty au is my FAVORITE you have no idea like it's my fave au besides ouran but like au ohdaibljarh i love it

so this kingdom is going to be a total rip off of nohr because i love my emo son leo and his dumb retainers

jungkook is the baby of his family, the youngest lil prince in the castle

he's kind of spoiled rotten honestly because his older brothers absolutely adore him, and they shower him in more attention than he knows what to do with

like he could bat an eyelash and hoseok would be at his side, asking if he needed anything

whenever he wants to practice his sparring, yoongi immediately stops whatever they're doing to help with bow and arrow practice or sword skills

jimin ALWAYS sneaks him pastries and buns from the kitchen

speaking of which pineapple buns?? ten out of ten would recommend

and while the princes are beautiful and kind and soft the kingdom itself is not

it's a dark kingdom, a rainy kingdom, where the sun rarely seems to shine

the main focus of the kingdom is agriculture, even though that's always a bust because of the terrible climate

they really make more money through weapon sales and trade all that good stuff

even though the kingdom is kind of tight on money yikes

but it's not like falling to shambles, not at all

the king runs a very tight schedule, and things are very organized, very controlled, very well run

yoongi is next in line for the throne, but the king totally favors jungkook and low key tries to give him more power than the other princes

but jungkook doesn't want that!! he just wants to chill with all his brothers and have a good time!!

okay let's get on with the story because i had a quality idea and boy howdy i sure forget things fast

alright, so the princes are making one of their daily visits to the town

but disguised, because things are no fun when everyone is bowing and trying to kiss your feet

cliche--- but i love it--- they have the really large cloaks and they just keep the cowls up because that would totally work

lol it does in this scenario

they love to look at the local produce, drink cheap ale at the local tavern, play tag with the local kids, and just interact with their people

not something the king does everyday lmao

today, it's rather cold, and jungkook can see that winter is coming by the way frost crawls up the trunks of trees, the way the birds have already started flying south, the way more and more shops close their doors to ward off the wintery winds

the boys still like to visit around town though

jungkook especially loves seeing the transformed landscape

as the youngest prince, he's usually cooped up indoors, listening to his tutor drone on about the influence of naval power upon the world, or balancing books on his head to maintain great posture or some other bs

so he loves being outside to see the pond freeze over, or the dirt start to be painted white due to the little snowflakes

he doesn't like seeing so many people so worried about their futures though

like i said, poorer kingdom, so most of the people suffer through the cold months with one blanket for a family of five, and half a loaf of bread amongst them

anyway they're in town right, and the middle two boys have gone off to god knows where, leaving yoongi and jungkook to themselves

they're in the middle of town, strolling amongst the various vendors, examining all the goods made available to them

out of the corner of his eye, he watches someone dart towards the bakers cart

there's a loud crash and jungkook spins around to see you on the ground, loaf of bread tucked under your arm

someone starts shouting and you push yourself off the ground, trying to desperately run for your life

a few soldiers start chasing after you and you're running fast, so fast, you don't pay attention to your surroundings and completely slam into jungkook, causing you to once again fall on your butt

one of the soldiers grabs your a and yanks you to your feet

“common filth like you ought to spend the rest of your days in prison, rotting away until the rats-”

“that's enough.” jungkook snaps

“and who are you to tell me what to do?” the guard laughs

jungkook throws off his hood and the guards immediately fall to their knees, begging mercy

“how DARE you touch my servant like that.”

“your highness, you must be mistaken, this is a common criminal-”

he pulls a few coins from his change purse and tosses them to the baker

yoongi watches on silently, thinking of all the various ways he's going to beat jungkook’s insolent little ass tonight

you're shaking, badly, and you can't believe you were just saved by one of the princes, let alone the cutest one

jungkook turns on his heel to leave, and you're like oh gods i need to thank him--

he turns his head “why are you just standing there? no servant of mine should be wasting time, gaping like a complete idiot.”

and that's where you find yourself later that evening, standing in jungkook’s room, freshly washed up and dressed in an outfit finer than anything you've seen, let alone worn in your entire life

“i've never had a servant close to my age.” jungkook is sitting on the edge of his bed, kicking his legs back and forth. “this will be fun i think. you're bound to be infinitely better than the boring old ladies that watch over me.”

you're too frightened to speak, so you stand there silently, shoulders tensed, eyes wide, hands clasped in front of you, trying to look anywhere but jungkook

“well come on, aren't you going to tell me your name?”

and so you do, sheepishly, so quiet that jungkook has to ask again

he nods when he finally hears you and then he kinda gets silent because yes he's the prince but he's kind of shy when it actually comes down to talking to people close to him in age

“well i guess i'll have to find someone to train you…” he says with a sigh

and you're like excuse me what you're the one who picked me off the street honey

but you can’t actually say that to him because like that shiz could get you beheaded or something and that is not what you need in life oh no

so you just kind of follow behind silently as he leads you off to where all the royal butlers and maids hang out and do their training mm hmmm

and when jungkook leads you in everyone is like ooh what’s up with the prince ooh look at the lil cutie he’s brought in

and they’re all like old so they can tease him like that because they practically raised this boy??

jungkook gets all red and he starts to stammer how it’s not like that and how he just wanted someone closer in age to serve him

and he just is like gotta blast sorry everyone

and so he leaves right away, not even giving you a good bye

you blink and all the servants swarm you, asking how you got jungkook to fall in love with you so quickly and you’re like in love what does that meaN

after all their inspecting and gossip about you, they actually get down to business about what you gotta do for jungkook as his new personal maid/butler

it seems simple

you have to accompany him to all his meetings, whether they be negotiations, tutoring lessons, or even dinner

you’re supposed to stay back and be like a shadow, just keeping an eye in case the dearest prince should ever need something

you also have to serve him tea in the afternoons, or at least, know how to

you need to help him dress in the morning and at first you’re like red in the face, sweating nervously, stuttering because what???

but the servants tell you that this job is only for really formal occasions, like when foreign princes and princesses come to visit and jungkook is too impatient to figure out how to wear his sash smh

basically you have to attend to his every need and you’re like great, i cannot wait, i’m ecstatic

or maybe, every time you touch, you feel the static (w/jungkook) and that’s why you’re so excited mm hmm

you’re super nervous especially since you just came off the streets, literally, like you have no social status or skills or ability to actually serve jungkook well

you’re like i will be beheaded within five days

you get the rundown on the whole thing, the whole job thing

and then the servants take you down to the servants’ quarters so you can set up a bed and sleep early so you’re well rested for the big day tomorrow

you set up a little spot in the corner of your room, and you’re like alright, i just need to sleep and maybe i’ll realize this is all a dream

because in burst jungkook, forlorn and confused look on his face

the servants are all rushing to bow and like ask what the deal is because royalty are so above entering the servants’ quarters (save hoseok who likes to come down every morning and say hi)

and jungkook points at you all accusing “aren’t you coming back? it’s been like three hours, you’re supposed to be back”

you look around at all the servants because “y’all just said i could sleep”

but they shrug and start to shoot each other looks and you realize that it’s ‘me against the world’

you try to hide yourself in the corner but jungkook has obviously spotted you and he gives you this look

“i need your assistance, isn’t that your job? to assist me?”

you inwardly groan but give a nod of the head because this boy did save your life, you kinda owe him big time

jungkook takes you back to his room and you’re like what it is late and i am tired and-

you don’t know where to stand though and you kind of stand there awkwardly and open the book but it feels like you’re preaching to him or something

jungkook rolls his eyes and scoots over on the huge canopy bed and pats the now empty space beside him

“when i was little, my brothers would always read to me. yoongi was the worst. he always spoke all monotone and he would tell me horror stories and i would cry and then jimin would have to calm me down. yoongi is mean.”

when you don’t take the seat, he turns his head “i command you sit next to me.”

so you take a reluctant seat beside him with the heavy book still in your arms, doing your best not to look over at jungkook because you know that it’s wrong to look royalty in the eye let alone touch them

or like, idk, sit on their bed

while they are also sitting on the said bed

“hoseok was the best at reading. whenever he would read me fairy tales, he would change voices for all the characters!! he would always make them so exciting and give everything a happy ending…”

“so you have three brothers then?” you ask slowly, knowing that you’re not supposed to address jungkook so… familiarly

“three. i’m the baby. me and hoseok have the same mom, so maybe that’s why he likes me the most.” jungkook turns to face you. “but yoongi is the only son of the actual queen. so he’s the one who’s next in line obviously. he’s the one who was out with me! he likes me a lot too. jimin likes me too.”

“everyone likes you it seems.”

“i hope so.”

you two fall silent but it’s not really uncomfortable, just wary, because you two are in very distinct and separate roles that should never ever be more than a prince and servant, like they shouldn’t ever grow beyond that

but jungkook seems so… genuine? he saved your life and he treats you like an equal already, going as far to talk to you so openly about his family and everything? amazing, what a hero

okay anyway you start reading and it’s the most boring and dry thing you have ever read in your entire freaking life and you just wanna fall asleep but jungkook seems pretty fascinated so you keep going for his sake

most of your days are spent trying to keep jungkook out of trouble rather than actually helping him do anything

and instead of screaming nOOoOOoooOOooooooOOOoo like casey, the resident asshole of my math class, he offers to teach you how to play since you two have like all the time in the world

all the time in the world being until dinner later that evening

you two sit down in the spacious room and he sets up the chess board

the pieces are glass, and they’re so intricate and beautifully carved and you’re so scared that you might break them or something but jungkook reassures you that everything will be okay and that they would want to be used

he tosses you your queen or king and with a wink goes “wow look the chess piece that represents you”

“wow, did jimin teach you that one?”

“yoongi actually”

“wow, impressive”

you can’t help but blush as you set up your pieces though

you still have no idea how to play though, and you sit there kind of dumbly as jungkook poises, ready to move his first piece

“oh, how could i forget?”

he starts going over all the pieces, and how many spaces they can move and how, and how the game actually works and i’m not actually sure because nobody would answer me in math today smh

but then

then he grabs your hand and delicately guides your fingers to move your first piece and now your heart is racing and your face must be red as the draping over his bed but you try to keep it cook because servants can’t just up and fall in love with their princes, that’s not allowed

oops too late i guess…

jungkook is bad at chess because he’s impatient and he doesn’t really like to take much time planning his moves

which is okay in your book because he likes it’s cute to see him get worked up and puff his cheeks out when you take out one of his pieces

i have the ap language exam tomorrow wait a second

he complains and whines and tells you that you’re cheating by distracting him but he just doesn’t like to lose

but he wants you to win because your eyes light up and you get all smiley when you take another one of his pieces and wow he is in love

he is in like, love is a big commitment and hoseok already warned him that their father would be furious if jungkook fell for you, even if he is the favorite son

jungkook told hoseok that nothing like that would ever happen but lol here we are my dudes, here we are

after you crush jungkook in chess, he decides that the next best thing to do to win his honor back is play you in dice

which he also loses at because he likes seeing your smile too much and his honor is something he’s willing to sacrifice if you’re happy in the end

“i’m so sad that i lost, maybe you should make it up to me.” jungkook pouts, flinging himself onto his bed dramatically soon afterward

“well what did you have in mind?”

“tell me a story.”

so you walk over to his bookcase, the one full of tales of old, and reach out to grab the history of war for what has to be the millionth time

but jungkook stops you with a soft, “no, from your head.”

like so many times before he pats the empty seat beside him, and you take your seat, snuggling you back up to the fluffy pillows

you take a deep breath and begin

“there once was a prince in a far away kingdom, with dragons and warlocks and pegauss knights. he was youthful and bright, with eyes like a deer and the curiosity of one too. he had the sweetest smile and the chubbiest cheeks and his nose was too big for his face, but in an endearing, adorable sort of way. the prince was adored by everyone, from his father, to his brothers, to the townspeople. everyone had heard of his skill with a sword, his knowledge of the worlds around him, but mostly his kindness that stretched even to the most lowly of people.”

you don’t remember drifting off but you sure as heck do, because the next thing you hear is hoseok’s shrieking

like shrieking as in he probably get stabbed and the castle is under attack

you go to get up but there is an arm around your torso and a face buried in your back and you’re finally piecing everything together

another horrified shriek from hoseok

“i mean your highness------”

hoseok runs over to the two of you and shakes jungkook awake

“hurry up, if you two are in love which by the looks of it, you are, there’s only a limited amount of time that i can marry you before father finds out. i may not be ordained, but i could bullshit my way through it”

hoseok is pulling at both of your arms but it’s too late, in walks the king, with jimin and yoongi pulling at his arms to try and stop him

he’s an intimidating man, muscular as jungkook, but with a hard face and sharp features

the king walks over and commands you both to stand

you’re trembling now and jungkook holds onto your hand in an attempt to somehow reassure you, but it’s not happening because you feel like you’re about to break down in tears now

the king won’t say anything and it seems like time has frozen completely

but then he pulls jungkook into his arms and hugs him tightly

you’re both in shock to say the least

the king hugs jungkook tighter “my precious son, how you’ve grown”

and then the king pulls you into his arms and now it’s a family hug and you’re wondering why this is happening and how he is okay with this but then you remember that jungkook’s mother was a maid

and suddenly things are starting to make more sense

jungkook nods and you can see the tears in his eyes, and you can see the tears in his father’s eyes

Feis, the coach who was killed, has been reported dying in four different scenarios in four different local newspapers. Other national newspapers report he never encountered Cruz at all. A cop from another precinct heard a description of Cruz's clothing on the radio and just happened to spot him 2 miles from the school, just 21 minutes after the shooting ended. He was casually walking down the street after visiting Wal-Mart and McDonald's for a snack. He was arrested without incident, had a panic attack because he appeared confused about being arrested and within minutes appeared too drugged to walk.6. The Broward county prosecutor told Cruz if he didn't plead guilty they would seek the death penalty. His Broward county public defender advised him to plead guilty within 36 hours after shooting.7. The son of an ANTI TRUMP FBI GUY, David Hogg, the head of the school TV station, was texting his father DURING the shooting from a classroom and filmed the screams! He is the SOURCE of the video.
