Kouri watches The Imperial Coroner, 31-33
That was the best shovel talk omg
Wu Jiang I’ve missed you!
You know I had this whole theory that Xiao Jinyu was actually Duke Chang’s son and that was why Duke Chang had invested so much time in him and everything, and then they basically just gave Xiao Jinyu the same backstory as Chu Chu but with 50% less murder
Jing Yi disguised as a prostitute is sending me
What’s on fire NOW???
D’aww. Poor Xiao Jinyu realizing his teacher is evil. That’s rough, buddy.
Chu Chu hugging Xiao Jinyu and me wondering when the last time I stanned a straight couple this hard was
The way Qin Luan looks like he’s gonna have an aneurysm when Xiao Jinyu waltzes in, I love it
Okay I was NOT expecting Qin Luan to merc Sun Mingde in front of everyone
Here we gooooooooooooo~~~~ get rekt Qin Luan

Review/Rec: The Imperial Coroner/Yu Ci Xiao Wu Zuo
where to watch: It’s on both Youtube and Viki for free!
what’s it about: A historical mystery set in the Tang Dynasty based on the novel 御赐小仵作 by 清闲丫头. Chu Chu travels to the capital to participate in the exams to become a coroner in the Imperial Palace. There she meets Prince An/Xiao Jinyu and Jing Yi (his partner in solving crime). Chu Chu is impressed with Xiao Jinyu’s skills in deduction at crime scenes, while he is impressed with the skills and knowledge displayed in her autopsy reports. Despite questions of Chu Chu’s true origin, Xiao Jinyu brings her to consult in cases that might all be pointing towards his missing/presumed dead father. Little do they know, they are about to investigate their way into a conspiracy that took place before they were born.
review: I was hesitant to watch this show because I’m pretty squeamish around autopsies/surgeries. I was thrilled to learn that this show uses drawings and sometimes little cartoons to demonstrate Chu Chu’s findings.
The characters are what really sold this show to me and they did so within the first episode. They are all very clever, especially the main four and it makes for an engaging mystery. This was one of the most successful mystery shows I have watched in terms of pacing, interest, and consistency! The series of cases all begin to weave a web that is super satisfying to see from beginning to end.
Chu Chu is just a wonderful character. While she starts out a little naïve, she has a great character arch. Her naivety towards the world outside her home never gets in the way of her brilliance or her skill. She wants most of all to help people, to give voice to the dead, and does this by observing down to the smallest details.
Xiao Jinyu similarly lovely, and part of what is really wonderful about his and Chu Chu’s relationship with each other is that it helps them both grow. Xiao Jinyu comes off as more closed off, but he just isn’t always great with human interaction, though he is never unkind.
Jing Yi is a lot less serious as a character, and uses this perception of himself to get information from people. He’s fantastic at the human side of crime solving, and he and Xiao Jinyu are very close friends and great partners in crime solving. He finds himself balancing his friendships with his family expectations in a very interesting way.
Leng Yue a warrior who is trying to find her place in the world. She shows up several episodes in, reuniting with childhood friends Xiao Jinyu and Jing Yi, and making fast friends with Chu Chu. She has her own experience, such as with healing and with weapons, that rounds out the other three to make a crime solving team that is a joy to watch.
The long story short is this show is a wonderful gem despite its tiny budget, the writing and acting are well done, 10/10, would certainly recommend!
content warnings: Not many! Some depictions of violence, very minor gore. Depictions of claustrophobia. References to incest, which I will provide details to under the cut (mild spoilers).
1) Early on, some of the villain characters speculate that Chu Chu and Xiao Jinyu are half-siblings (they are not).
2) Political leaders/family members try and set Leng Yue up first with Xiao Jinyu and later try to arrange a marriage between her and Xiao Jinli, who are her cousins. Neither comes to pass and Leng Yue confronts both Xiao brothers about how uninterested and angry she is about such set ups.
3) Worst offender is Chu Chu’s brother, Chu He, who voices a plan where he could marry Chu Chu. Because Chu Chu was adopted in secret to keep her safe, she is not technically part of the family and Chu He thinks this would solve this. He also says he has feelings for her other than siblings, because he’s the worst! Chu Chu never finds out about any of this (I wish I was her), and after the initial scene in only comes up a handful more times in rather minor ways.
#i needed to cut myself off with the review because honestly i would go on FOREVER about these characters#the imperial coroner#chu chu#xiao jinyu#leng yue#jing yi#a watches tic#a talks#a reviews#i might later write a post about leng yue and chu chu doing ''men's'' work and how well that is handled#long post

other things about language I’ve learned since starting this job:
khmer (cambodian language) is pronounced ka-mai (rhymes with eye), not k’mehr/koo-meer as most people I know say it
there are SO MANY common languages that I had never heard of. gujurati (india) and bislama (vanuatu) and igbo (nigeria) and cebuano (philippines) and all the different types of arabic and the differences between arabic (which is afro-asiatic/semitic) and persian/farsi (which is indo iranian). I learn new things about languages all the time and it’s great
china hosts many speakers of mandarin and cantonese, of course, but there’s also wu, han, yue, hakka, min nan, jinyu, xiang, gan, zhuang, min bei, uyghur, and min dong, all which are spoken by at least 10 million people... and china has almost 300 languages overall!
spanish speakers can kiiinda understand italian sometimes? that’s according to my latino colleague and my spanish boss
kiribati is actually pronounced kiri-bas! that goes for the name of the country and the name of the language itself
budapest, the hungarian capital, is pronounced buda-pesht!
that’s all I can think of right now!

WU JINYU IS NOW HERE!
As the Crown Prince, Wu Jinyu has eyes on him at all times. From his father, to the consorts, to the servants and public-- every breath he takes is monitored. So you would think at least someone would know about the whole necromancy shtick he has going on just outside the castle walls.
But they don't.
Wu Jinyu has a goal-- bring back the Eye Crown, a 'Curse & Blessing' bestowed upon his family to bring heirs great, often uncontrollable strength. Yet, four hundred years ago, this Crown stopped descending for no apparent reason, even after the death of its last host; which is how the Eye Crown moves on to its next heir. He'll do anything to bring the Crown back, and for him to be the one to inherit it.
UNBRED G1 ORCA XYX OBTAINED LETS FUCKING GET IT RAAAAAAAAAH
#FR#Flight Rising#My Dragons#he maaay be getting a twin brother VERY much depends on if an XXY Orca/Sanguine plague bitch is born#Wu Jinyu#Fall of Taihe

Behlod! I bring you some lore from discord! >:3
Let's start with the angst stuff U wU
Most traumatic event that happened to my OCs:
Sky: being possessed by Lady Bone Demon (and finding out that they agree with some of the things she says…)
Lychee: seeing Sky's powers go out of control and make them go feral
Demon Lady: being forced into marriage with an immortal she didn't love
Lady Prism: her kingdom turning on her/an angry mob coming to attack her
Pebble: him and Nezha getting ambushed by demons when he took the little dragon to the mortal realm and Pebble almost getting kidnapped by them
Mel: the first time he was turned from a monkey to his current humanoid form and not understanding the single thing of what happened
Lady Red Flower: when a village came to attack her, because the men accused her of using magic to seduce a young man
Ash: His best friend getting blinded by rage and revenge
Atlas: when he got tricked by a selfish celestial, and almost destroying an innocent village by accident
Jinyu: her village being destroyed
Bojing: getting bitten by a demon snake and almost dying from poison
Apricot: being abandoned in the streets
Whisp: getting lost at a very loud and crowded festival
My OCs biggest fears:
Sky: being forgotten
Lychee: becoming a shadow again
Demon Lady: the celestial realm
Lady Prism: not being able to feel anything/oblivion
Pebble: not being enough
Mel: disappointing Monkey King
Lady Red Flower: loosing everything she loves
Ash: being powerless to change something
Atlas: becoming like the previous Jade Emperor (or worse)
Jinyu: losing her freedom
Bojing: not being a good enough for his family
Apricot: being abandoned again
Whisp: demons suddenly pulling her underwater (not just water, specifically this scenario)
And now let's sweeten it up with some Apricot lore! > w<
Some Apricot facts:
Everyone thought she needed glasses because she would bump into walls all the time, but turns out she just has terrible spacial awareness
Her favourite sweet is star candy
She doesn't know how to fly, and her wings are a bit smaller than they should be to carry her weight
Chang'e bought her one of that moving nightlights with star shapes, and Apricot didn't sleep all night, just watched them mesmerised

Recent c-drama watch updates
Sorry I got lazy and took forever to write this but!!! I now have TWO c-dramas to report! Praise me!!! :'D
jk anyway as of recent I've watched "The sword and the brocade" and "The imperial coroner" and it's safe to say I loved one of them a lot more than the other :')
Spoilery (but not really, at least partially because they're so poorly written) reviews ahead:
Starting with tsatb (shortened because I am not writing that title out over and over again):
It was okay. I really, really loved some parts. I also hated some other parts. Quite a bit of it was unfortunately very skippable. bad summary ahead with my very ungathered thoughts:
It's basically about this girl called Shi Yi, a girlboss who is actually a proletariat girl because she's worked as an embroiderer and her bourgeoisie family hate her because of her lower status. Except they can apparently put that aside when they need her to keep up two different relations with other rich families to get her dad a position in court. So yeah stuff happens, her mom dies, she gets married of to the better rishta because her cousin is bad at schemes and also an idiot, except she doesn't care because she only put up with that rishta in order to find out who killed her mom. Also she's 15 when the story starts, 16 when she gets married and 17/18 by the end. Yeah.
her now husband looks constipated, is tired of politics at court, and does not really enjoy coming home to find more politics and arguments and has become very distant as a result. he's like 30 something or 40 with two kids and 5 previous wives (3 concubines, 1 dead wife), all of which were settled more or less without him having an opinion in it.
their age gap, the lady not putting in any effort at home or in her rship, his distance and shit involvement at home obviously causes problems, and i liked how they dealt with it (mostly). also loved the roles the other concubines played, whether as villains or just as characters affected by the leads. did not like the mom. she could've avoided so much trouble so easily for them but noooooooo. lol.
Some people didn't enjoy the Ou family as villains but I'd disagree as they were honestly a very classic set. I just felt bad for the younger son mans did nothing wrong ever and still got the shortest end of the stick.
there's a total of 45 episodes of this ancient chinese saas bahu drama, and i'd like to call it a brainless watch. you'll probably end up rooting for the main couple. the kids are cute too.
7 out of 15 sheep as rating.
-
As for "The Imperial Coroner":
It was lots of fun. The romance doesn't really become a heavier theme until the second half, and the no side characters are unreasonably given less time than they deserve to shine on screen, and they honestly all did. "Fun, with lots of healthy relationships, and well wrapped up" is probably the best short description I can think of.
Our leads are Chu Chu, a coroner who comes to Chang'an to work and get a certificate, best girl with the best name, the best family, and heart, and Xiao Jinyu, resident gold fish, handsome judge prince combo, and little brother and baby boy in general. Chu Chu has a classic paindu vibe and I was actually really afraid they were going to keep her simple and stereotyped but thankfully we avoided that. She's smart, understanding, and straightforward. tbh the lead couple started giving me sona chandi vibes at some point ;u; well. Jinyu also follows a similar trend, where his straight forwardness isn't used as an excuse to have him act dumb except a few times, and his reliance on his team to work on his cases is often showed, as is his care and gratitude towards them. He's a good kid.
Prominent side characters include, Jing Yi and Leng Yue, childhood friends to the prince as well as subordinates, Xiao Jinli, a general in the army and the prince's twin, and Wu Jiang who is the princes deputy and also a close friend. The characters families also regularly make appearances and play roles in pulling the story together, especially our leads parents and family, including Princess Xiping and her husband Xiao Heng (accidental cupid), Ministers Jing Zhi, and General Leng Peishan. The entire Chu family too (Chu He is the He Ziqiu of this show bdjsksj).
The story goes from case to case, most of which are connected, to unveil a rebellious conspiracy and a race against time to save the day.
Also I'm pretty convinced the emperor and Jin Bao (young eunuch dude from later half of the show) are smooching.
Anyway the show has 36 episodes, and even with it's shortcomings that i'm still too in love with the show to mention, will hopefully keep anyone watching engaged and rooting for the leads. They're adorable. Also Jing Yi's parents are actually the best couple of the show.
13 out of 15 sheep. (would probably be 15 if i'm being extraaa biased lol. Most of my reviews are entirely personal though so yeah.)

gmp wins competition for Chengdu Future City – new high-tech development in southwest China
In a two-stage urban design competition for the new high-tech Chengdu Future City development, the masterplan and the design for the railway station project submitted by von Gerkan, Marg and Partners Architects (gmp) have been successful.
The site area of about 460 hectares will be developed to include research institutes, an university, offices, retail, and housing in close proximity to each other. The starting point will be the railway station, Futian Station, which, in the first building phase, will be redesigned and developed by gmp to form the urban center. The design of the university has been assigned to the Dutch practice Office for Metropolitan Architecture (OMA).
The development area for Chengdu Future City is 50 kilometers distant from the city of Chengdu in the southwest of China and only one stop away from the new Chengdu Tianfu International Airport. This proximity to the airport makes the area an ideal location for a Transit-Oriented Development (TOD), an urban development concept in which all urban functions are concentrated in a high-density development around a central public transport hub. This results in short distances between housing, leisure pursuits, study, and work. This high-density development corresponds to the “living university” concept used by China to promote academic education and its high-tech industry.
Futian Station will be the core of this future high-tech city. In the first construction phase, the existing railway station will be expanded and fitted with new roofs in the form of closely arranged umbrella-like structures.
The roofs, which are supported by tall uprights, form a U-shaped roofed urban landscape that symbolically extends into the wider landscape. These umbrellas provide shelter to a lively terrace landscape including leisure facilities, a hotel, retail outlets, and offices.
At the same time, the railway station is the intersection and departure point of two axes at which the most important functions of the future city converge—one being the education axis with the buildings for research and teaching. This leads from the university designed by OMA to the already existing Aviation Academy. The other axis is the green landscape axis—a wide, sweeping green swathe like a brush stroke that follows the topography and extends deep into the L-shaped development area.
This constitutes the green heart of the area, creating lively urban spaces including bridges, plazas, and viewpoints, giving priority to pedestrian and bicycle traffic. Motorized traffic will cross the green axis primarily underground. Another part of the first construction phase is the hexagonal rotating viewing platform called Eye of the Future that, like a sculpture, rises from the park landscape to above the railway station and provides wide views across the terrain.
“This example of a new urban precinct for science, research, and housing in Chengdu raises the question about the future of cities in general. From our point of view, the answer should always be in reference to the specific location; in our design we have moved the landscape to the center of the development to create a unifying feature.” Stephan Schütz, Partner, von Gerkan, Marg and Partners Architects

Actually, Chinese is a language, but there are many dialects of Chinese (Mandarin, Cantonese, etc) and when written, it's all the same characters
Chinese is a writing system but not a spoken language; the closest version of a spoken language called Chinese would be Chinese Sign Language.
Chinese is a macrolanguage made up of a bunch of languages, including: Gan, Hakka, Huizhou, Jinyu, Mandarin, Min Bei, Min Dong, Min Nan, Min Zhong, Pu-Xian, Wu, Xiang, and Cantonese.
I think maybe your confusion might come from the fact that the term macrolanguage can also be used in reference to all the dialects belonging to a language (so English for example, would be a macrolanguage comprised of Canadian English, Scottish English, Welsh English, New Zealand English, etc).
You’d think linguists of all people would be attuned to how confusing using the same word for two similar things can be. :P

Yesterday, with the end of the Super League and China B play-offs
Yesterday, with the end of the Super League and China B play-offs, the 2018 China Professional Football League closed. There is no doubt that the Super League of the 2018 season has an unprecedented "subversiveness." Is this the best era, or is

it the worst? 1. Evergrande 7 consecutive championships Evergrande's Super League 8 championship dream was shattered. The end of the Evergrande 7 consecutive championship era, which was finally completed by Shanghai Shanggang, is also the result that most people can expect. From the perspective of the stability of foreign aid, the rationality of the overall age structure, the commanding experience of the head coach, and the execution of the club's target management, it is no accident that Evergrande's three-line missions in the Super League, the FA Cup and the AFC Champions League this year. Some people say that the pattern of Evergrande's monopoly in the Super League champion has been broken, which proves that the Super League has shifted from the "Golden Yuan era" to the

"green training era" - this conclusion may be too early. Looking forward to the Super League in 2019, no matter what kind of policy situation, the competition between Shanghai and Evergrande will still be the main line, and this year's winged Guoan and Luneng will probably increase the pursuit of the two men. Next year's AFC Champions League, Beijing-Shanghai Lu Sui 4 big Chinese super-powerful giants once again gathered to attack, can you achieve a collective new breakthrough? 2. Wu Lei breaks the monopoly of "yang gun" An important factor in winning the championship in Hong Kong is undoubtedly the outstanding performance of local players. After waiting for 10 seasons, the local shooter broke the foreign aid monopoly and put on the golden boots. Wu Lei inherited the tradition of Li Jinyu and broke the 26-ball record created by Li Jinyu in 2006. He also became the first person to score 100 goals in the history of the Super League. According to the momentum of this year, the 27-year-old Wu Lei should soon be able to break Li Jinyu's record and become the player with the most goals in China's top league. In addition to Wu Lei, goalkeeper Yan Junling is also the hero of winning the championship in Hong Kong, otherwise it is impossible for

Hong Kong to become the team with the least number of goals. 3. The last super foreign aid? This year's Super League's "super foreign aid" still plays the role of "thigh". Although the Chinese Football Association issued an order to collect high-priced foreign aid mediation fees, many clubs still did not stop buying and buying. The increase in "super foreign aid" will undoubtedly increase the level of the league and make the competition of each team more intense. On the other hand, the imperfection of the Chinese Super League culture has also caused many "super foreign aid" to

have the idea of fleeing. Tianjin Quanjian has suffered this bitter season. From the current position of the Chinese Football Association, the introduction of foreign aid in the Super League next year will still be tightened, and it may be difficult for fans to see more new faces of

super foreign aid.
