#White Wolf vs Black Lion

With the reveal of an NB character in Ninjago, I feel that people are placing this theme on a pedestal because of this one single move of inclusion. Don't get me wrong— I'm glad that LEGO is including LGBTQIA+ identities into their themes, and I genuinely hope they continue doing so, but we're forgetting that they're investing a step forward into a theme that's always going two steps back.

I don't feel like pointing out the issues of Ninjago, especially because it's tiresome and it's not the point of this post, but I remember that there was an entire thread here on Tumblr about the problematic worldbuilding of Ninjago. I might write something about it as well, but it's unlikely.

Chima had a great amount of inclusion and diversity within its cast (though no canon LGBTQIA+ characters, unfortunately):

POC-equivalent characters (brown and blue crocodiles; vultures with tan and bright blue skin colors), of which a few of those are part of tribes that have a motif from predominantly white cultures (Longtooth and Lavertus, who are brown lions in a tribe with a roman motif; Ehboni, Eglor, who are black and dark blue respectively, alongside unnamed eagles of mixed origins [dark blue x white] in a tribe of greek motif, and even Ewald himself isn't white).

A majority of these characters are important to the plot and/or have reoccurring appearances;

Diversity in tribe lifestyles, with the Wolf Tribe being nomadic (and not going through the stereotype of nomadic traders).

Each vehicle in Chima follows the motif and lifestyle of their respective tribe. For example, crocodiles are ambush predators and require camouflage, thus their vehicles are heavily based on military vehicles, with camo colors and strong silhouettes;

Marginalized characters whose arcs actually end with them winning and gaining respect. The Ice Hunters vs. Phoenixes arc was an obvious allegory of colonization, and it ends with the Ice Hunters alive and thriving, while the Phoenixes (who started the war) lost and failed to 'educate' their enemies.

The Crawlers also have their arc finished with an anti-war and pro-diversity lesson, where Laval lends them Chi because it's not supposed to be earned, and instead is free for everyone, even though they had stolen all of Mount Cavora's Chi beforehand;

Characters whose appearance is distinctive and break barriers of ableism are not only present in Chima, but are also treated equally to other characters, without having their differences be a point, argument, or lesson. (Cragger with a blind eye, Crug with a prosthetic jaw, the Raven Tribe as a whole, Leonidas with distinctively shaped incisors and Longtooth with long canines).

However, the Rhinoceros Tribe is an unfortunate exception, as they're constantly depicted as dumb;

The Lion Tribe has a lot of diversity by itself, with lions having a variety of mane colors that represent hair colors in real life. Laval has red hair, Leonidas is ginger, Lavertus is blond, Lennox has brown hair;

Other cultural representations such as Dom de La Woosh being based on Brazilian carnivals;

There's Wonald, a vegan character;

My favorite fact of all: Chima and Chi are both real words who exist in multiple languages, and each of their meanings was instrumental to the interpretation we have in this theme. → Chi means: knowledge in japanese; water (literally) and source of life (figuratively) in chinese; god in igbo. Chima means "god knows all" in igbo → in LoC, the Phoenixes created Chi, which looks like water and is the source of life/knowledge in Chima, and they also sculpted Mount Cavora with each tribe's heads before they had even evolved.

All of this unfortunately flew over most people's heads, which is a bad thing, as all of the effort that was put on Chima's diversity was left unnoticed, but it is also a good thing at the same time, because everything was executed seamlessly and naturally, just like how people should view each other in real life (view one another without discrimination). However, this amount of care and thought put into adding a diverse cast of characters is probably not going to be seen again, in any lego theme or any story made by corporations/companies.

medieval chess au….? that sounds so cool

so originally i wanted to do some kind of historical au for chess set during the medieval era, but the more i looked into it the more i realized that trying to do something like that in a real world context while still keeping the same real world political context (apolitical chess is just not as interesting to me tbh) just wasn't going to work, so instead i decided to do what george r.r. martin did when he was writing game of thrones and use real world history (game of thrones was largely inspired by the war of the roses) and real world politics within the context of a fantasy setting, so the main conflict is still east vs west, but it's the eastern kingdoms vs the western kingdoms.

freddie is ser fredrick, the gilded lion, born and raised in the golden city (the main seat of power among the western kingdoms similar to king's landing, located by the sea) to become king, beloved by most while also being regarded as a petulant child that (seemingly) hasn't had to deal with any real hardship, and then across the emerald sea are the eastern kingdoms, a colder, harsher climate compared to the western kingdoms, which is where prince anatoly, the black prince (or the white wolf, depending on who you talk to), lives with his wife, svetlana, and his advisor, aleksander molokov, who himself was born in the small settlement of alexandrovitch, located just outside the black gates, which separates the northernmost mountain range and the freefolk lands from the rest of the southern kingdoms. florence, meanwhile, is ser florence, a former advisor and freddie's royal mistress whose family comes from the eastern kingdoms but grew up in the golden city before deciding she was fed up with her life and ran away to become a knight instead, and then other plot details that include things like anatoly abdicating the throne because he never wanted the responsibility of ruling a kingdom and leaving his wife to take over the responsibility instead as the czarina and her doing so knowing that there are people who depended on them for leadership and guidance (and honestly probably being better at it than he was), molokov secretly plotting to take over the throne for himself (having already earned himself the nickname of the wolf whisperer), freddie regularly competing in the tournaments held in the golden city and being a very capable warrior in his own right (he's big on jousting).

So, going off the last few asks, here's my guesses on the new pairs of the og 7:

Ladybug and Cat (good luck and bad luck) (canon pair) (makes sense to keep them)

Peacock and Fox (opposite colors, blue and orange) (one associated with the air/sky and one associated with the land) one represents truth, integrity, and life, and the other is tied lies, trickery, and ghosts/death)

Ok, now this last one is iffy. It's either butterfly and turtle or butterfly and bee. Butterfly and Bee have some stuff going for them, opposite colors (purple and yellow) and a theme of Chaos vs. Order and Dependent vs. Independent. The Butterfly and Turtle also have stuff going for them. Depending on what color wheel you use, purple's opposite color could be green instead of yellow. They could represent both aspects of provision, protecting and supporting. And lastly their is the thematic parallel of the "main" villain and the "wise mentor" character having the miraculous that go together. Personally, I'm leaning towards Butterfly and Turtle, since going off your reasoning in your old A Declaration of Love fic, the bee makes little more sense to not have a partner. Bees have a lot of symbolism related to teamwork, connections, working with a group, hardwork, and other stuff like that, so it makes sense that the bee instead having one partner is meant to be able to work with anyone.

It's a maybe. It depends on how I do pairs, which I haven't decided yet.

Like do I work off actual animal pairs that do show up in different myths and folklore? Turtle has ties to Rabbit, Crane, and Snake. Also technically Dragon(fly). And there's possibility in doing Lion with Mouse, Wolf, or Tiger. Eagle with Fish, Dragonfly, or Snake. Raven and Dove are also an old pair that have been tied together since Mesopotamia.

Or do I work off themes? As Ladybug and Cat do work off the European themes of good and bad luck. Raven and Rabbit can also work, black and white, Raven's tied to the sun and death while Rabbit is tied to the moon and life. And yeah, Peafowl and Fox do have a nice color opposites and truth vs deception, but that's not Fox's only option, as Bull/Ox often stands for integrity and honesty, and is far more direct to Fox dancing around the bush.

Or do I do a mixture of both? Like, Lion and Mouse could work as a combo on both ideas, as they cover bravery vs fear, pride vs humbleness, power vs cunning, integrity vs deception, dark and light colors, blue and pink, ect..

There's also a debate on do I really keep all of the original 7 together? Despite often promoted together, in actuality, only 3/7 truly need to stay together: Butterfly, Cat, and Ladybug. All the others are honestly kinda removed from them and the show didn't do a good job to validate why these 7 are in a group together.

I am also going to aim for pleasing color wheels, for those that are black and white, their secondary color is what's going to count on a color wheel (blue for Rabbit, pink for Mouse, Horse and Goat are going to be more purple), which sets up Cat and Turtle to compete for the green spot of the color wheel. I don't need two greens and I don't really want to change up the canon colors of the kwamis (at most is just changing Longg to be more orange but it's still a reddish orange; or I could work off Tikki being a reddish pink and just skip out on orange for the bugs).

The other factor is, given how powerful Butterfly is, and the default set up of Ladybug and Cat both being necessary for it (though Cat is a stretch canon wise), I wonder if it should be one of the 5 that doesn't have a counterpart. As, by default, that is set up to be the "leader/diplomat" of the 7, the one who oversees things and acts as the neutral 3rd to the pairs when there is discourse and balances things out.

Though, insect wise, Bee and Butterfly are my top two picks, but I'm not sure I want two insects to make up the 5.

Either way, I do have a lot to think about and consider. At this time, Ladybug and Cat are the only confirmed pair.

I learn that a longtime colleague is leaving New York, to go way out West and live as a woman. This is the third musician I have known of who has, uh, transitioned...but I first I've known for decades. He/she is, I am told, taking the girlfriend/life partner with him.

Note: When I Zoomed with Kenny D (a weekly routine) we talked about "Maestro." He mentioned "Radical Chic." I hadn't thought about it for decades. I found it, in my yellowed Tom Wolfe, collection on my bedroom shelf. Wolfe has the party (for Black radicals) taking place on Park Avenue. Suprise. I always thought it was at the Dakota.

Dan H comes by to drop off something for my son. There is no place to park (no surprise, this) and, because he has a short layover, we sit in his van and talk. "Maestro" comes up. We agree. It's disturbing.

Later my son comes by, in his enormous white truck. I handoff the cymbals Dan left with me. Kenichi, always thinking ahead, hands me an enormous Italian hero. That's my boy.

Late: I turn on the TV and see the end of Lions vs Cowboys game. Lions, not content with a tie as the clock is running out, go against the odds and try to win with a two point conversion. It fails. (Always the hope that an overtime win is a possibility. That hope now dashed.) Coaches hate two point conversions. This is how coaches get fired.

The size and shape of Kali's ears are consistent with the african serval, a species of solitary lesser cat. (Lesser cats can meow but not roar). We know they're cat ears because they can fold over. (Dog ears can rotate and pin but lack the double twist necessary to fold over at will).

Kali is also, thematically, baloo to ghira's bagheera, hence her goofy nature. Baloo is an Indian black bear, which are pretty small compared to most. Which explains both her name and the choice of melanistic color (black) ears. Note that I'm not implying she's also part bear - this part is purely thematic and canon has consistently shown that faunus bear the traits of a single animal. (Vs what qrow claimed)

Meanwhile, ghira's roar suggests he's a jaguar rather than leopard like bagheera. Leopards have a double cuff short roar. The most weakass roar of all the great cats. A truly sad roar, bless their hearts. Anyway, jaguars and leopards alike are also solitary species.

So how did two solitary souls produce the most social of lesser cats, the most efficient land predator, as Blake's updated ear profile suggests? Because she was born into a wolf pack - the white fang. While this name is nominally a reference to the black panthers, we should look to the book by jack london, and the core wolf pack of the jungle book stories.

Which yields the half wolf, and the boy raised within two worlds. At times, blake is brother wolf who guides mowgli (ilia and adam). Other times, she is mowgli herself, caught between opposing forces. As she states, she doesn't want to be just a cat or just human.

I digress. If I'm right about faunus traits occuring through spiritual transmission, a canon quality of afterans, ascension and likely all the brothers' creations, then Blake is a cat like her parents, but a social species because of the environment in which she was born - a result of her parents' choice to be part of a society.

She also displays a number of low key feline behaviors on a regular basis but the show doesn't draw attention to them the way catgirl animes typically do. She does display a righting reflex if falling (but not after being bashed by a dozen tree branches). She can jump extreme distances and climb quickly even with aura depleted, indicating heightened muscular density. She broods on railings, watches fish people, runs on rooftops, and her semblance has evolved in a way that yields nine lives. That's just off the top of my head, though.

As for potential children with a human partner... Her own soul is feline, so the question is, what would Yang's soul be if she were a faunus? (The answer is brown bear because these two are also bagheera and baloo, and goldilocks invades the home of eurasian brown bears).

Which traits do feline and ursine share? Highly efficient predators, fiercely protective of offspring with whom they maintain lifelong contact, both human tolerant, etc. Using the spirit model, their child might take after one or the other (cat or bear), but combining traits might yield a lion, hyena, wolf or dog. Or plain unascended human, of course, though given that yang and blake both passed through the Tree...

I haven’t watched RWBY and don’t know that much about it and I gotta know - since Blake is like a cat girl does she get high off catnip? Is that a thing? Are drug dealers using catnip in this world? If she falls from a height does she land on her feet?? If she and her butch blonde gf have a kid is it a blonde cat? Can cat girls and humans have kids together? Is it like either human or a cat or is it a mixture? Like if a human had a kid with a cat?? I have so many questions about the lore and biology

Shiro’s reinforced barrier would be pelted in drilling with these pesky katana’s coated in halite before the upheaval of a howl and an icy mist took over the Nobleman. Shards from randomly started to dart through like hail. Piercing a clone and vanquishing it before the Captain just sent his remaining. But constantly the hearing of Kuro being slain before the only remaining one was the Captain himself. He drew in stepping in, dodging and far more mobile. As the athletic and toned figure did cartwheels to evade being hit. His hand slipping on the sleet scooting and accidentally passing through with clumsiness landing before the Shiro hidden in the fog. Landing harshly before attempting a diagonal strike with the blackened blades or what we call, - Grade 2, crafted from wyvern obsidian into weaponized black-glass solely made for this encounter. He swiped only for a mirage Shiro to be instead swiped and broken.

Before Kuro felt the icy winds against his nape. The fog disappearing after taking out the illusion. Shiro infamous pair white gloves were removed before putting each crooked hand into half-opened palm fist that made his fingers come together like that of a dragon stance. He began channeling something powerfully and presenting his almighty influence. A shell of diamond coating around his already stellar defense. He was revealing the defense that was believed to be absolutely invulnerable to break. Staggering and hopping up with a careful kip up the Captain wide-open gazed and then snapped out of it. He’d remove his eye-patch. This was it. Where all his training was meant for by the Poro who guided his fallen Star in former. Passing and awakening his own. A bundle of rich concentrated aether came drawing out of him where he stored all the aether in his eye-patch at the cost of being partially blind. Truesight brought to the fold. But surely foresight couldn’t run away from this especially the field caused running to be dangerous. Instead the Captain walked towards the channeling Shiro. Before the torrent and massive release of a conjured serpentine icy dragon came gnarling in with a viscous force to attempt to swallow and freeze Kuro once and for all. The pirate lowly grinned before settling with determination. His eye obscured and arms came outwardly he was going to try holding it back -- seemingly. He’d grip to the sides of the ice-scales. His main Truesight eye began to reveal, Star-Sight. The evolved state, which opened a wormhole that was like a vortex that aided against anti-magic to the next stage. It’d begin swallowing one spell into the Captain’s system. It all came to timing. The mighty force clashed against as the Captain’s back hit the stadium outer ring with a thud. But the magical presence seemed to be lost suspiciously. His lips went blue, his internal body screamed in the coldness the eye that was holding back the magic felt the effects of whatever was absorbed. His skin became grayish pale and limbs grew heavy and slow. He was crashed below on the sleeted ground. The countdown began. Shiro would become halted and distracted as his fiance and child entered the stadium who wouldn’t question why his mighty attack didn’t do its full-effects, the countdown already ensured him a victory regardless. Surely the rebellious would fall like any other soul who’s ever rebelled, ten-feet often in crypts often. The Keeper was barely making out the sounds of what seemed like Rose delivering some huge news, the interference, raked against Shiro, as this wasn’t the time. The pirate’s rattled skull laughed knowing the transpired exchange. His instinctual prowess was more attuned from his wild-split soul, curved, carved into his flesh as forearm rune bindings. While the Noble struggled wondering in question why his betrothed stepped into the arena in a random swoop. She passed her farewells in a delivery message, this was her; goodbye, Shiro. - He made an error, the one who was noted to calculate every outcome and conceivable thing. He made a graveness with his sinned pride. Willingly to be so blinded to -win, win, win- he only saw that. He made a mercilessly, dishonorable blow directly to the Captain previously, even though it was a clone. The damage was done. It showed her the painted coloring of the character he hid behind closed gloss-doors. Though he didn’t hear that. His perception even now chewed at him, telling her to return to the stadium. Staying distracted and off-the-prize. The believed impregnable shield of made diamond stayed isolated and surrounding. The Noble even now stayed arrogant to his superiority. This was his weakness- his crack in his defenses. This is where it all stood barely visible and noticeable. But to a rogue... To a heathen. This is opportunity all to common of learning from a Ul’dah denizen. At a count of 9, the ruffian stood swiftly. He writ a sinister confident grin despite looking roughed up. His Truesight pupil gleamed and expanded his soul’s energy raising before spinning like a cogwheel then the predatory pupil spun into a setting Star. This was its unlocked and evolved state, his True Gift’s meaning. To hold and give the constellations or in this cased term the magic that Shiro unleashed previously, like a mirror. A worm hole began to flux around the eye before an incredible burst of aether shot directly out the Diamond Serpentine Dragon, came now bellowing out in matching aggression. Shiro instantly turned baffled and gasping his hands coming outwardly to extra support protecting and fortify. The speed of his most devastating attack colliding. Diamond against Diamond pinning against each-other the enforcement was intense. The pirate shot an uproar pitch, “What goes around, comes around! -- NOW!” He’d sprint directly with all his remaining stamina behind pulling out his wyvern obsidian blades. Then unleashed a flurry of blows in combinations behind the enforced stolen magic. Chipping, cracking, as the impossible was crumbling from momentous shakes, the big bad wolf was huffing and blowing the fort down. Shiro growled defiantly, tiny dents and the damage done was being sewn back but the pressure was unrelenting. He channeled back his full-frontal defenses but tried not to get devoured by his own draconian magic attack. A barbaric-figured Seeker drew out everything attacking his speed and pace increasing as the more he drew against and was denied his blades bouncing back against or slipping just indicating to strike more. He worked with a frenzy. His sweat and body combating against the arctic making freezing droplets against his skin. The formidable spell clashing and eventually would evaporated as Shiro eventually started absorbing but it was at an cost. That mongrel...                 He did it... That, who should not be. Collapsed in a heap drained and using it all. The countdown beginning. Shiro looked devastated and caught off-guard. His mouth agape. Silence befell before a sound of diamond glass and a barrier shattered and broke-form the delayed blows finally drawing to one point and combusting in a scenic dismay. Speechless... How did the gap close this far? How had the pirate who couldn’t do anything by himself finally overcome the immovable object. He dropped to a knee weakly. The audience going in an uproar as the one of the Free did the impossible and broke the Shield of the Orderly. Shiro staggered but managed to get back up in solid stance. Kuro remained unconscious a low-grin on his face. The referee officiating would shoot out at Ten. It was over, concluded... Which, yes, it’s true the pirate lost again. -- A battle. But this one was of Pride. And we saw what both competitors did with their Pride. The Noble became consumed and in actuality lost truly what mattered. His angelic love and child of dove, left him. He was not the victor here. The applauds of the others in his court, they did not bring him a sense of happiness or glee. Because deep-down when he turned his head. He saw the only two that mattered in attendance, were gone. They stepped out, his crown--weightless. Turned speechless. Before the rising of the Phoenix himself stood up as the crowd chanted. Shiro was unscratched physically. But his shield, broken. This was an omen. A wake-up call. “You won... But know... You’ll never win again anytime you fite me here on out. And if you’re wondering where they went. They told you during our battle, she’s done with you. You revealed what I always told you. Ye been ingrained to be perfect. To be so Grand, but in doin’ that froze yourselves limits, losin’ it all, ye lost senses, who cares if you got a big brain, if yer still capable of being a stupid-ass? Join the club, welcome to being a fuck-up, now you get to climb back and become someone worthy, or you get to watch everything burn.” The scoundrel fired back, beaten, bruised. It took every source and recent training to overcome this hurdle. He, the bold, vowed here, that there would not be another time he’d lose to this Lord. And dug descended to thoughts laid truth... If the Captain figured out the schematic here and was only continuing to grow because he found the Answers, those who surrounded and empowered him. That gave him value. His price would exceed to newer heights.

Shiro wouldn’t fire back verbally. Usually he did... Not now. He felt loss, defeated, humiliated. He was victorious. But... he wasn’t. How does one like the street-rat, have everything preserved upon obtaining, while he an Ishgardian Elite lost it all? This contest showed that winning doesn’t always bring guarantee happiness or peace. That a victor, can be a loser. Perfection... It’s a flaw

The Lifespans of the Branded

Short version: by averaging out the average life expectancy of a human today with the average life expectancy of each laguz tribe in-game, we can guess that Branded with Beast Tribe heritage live around 132 years, those with Bird Tribe heritage live 156 years, and those with Dragon Tribe heritage live 548 years.

Long version:

The following are categorized by laguz heritage and are rounded to the nearest whole number. The United Nations estimate for the average life expectancy of a human today is 72.6. This is the number I used to represent beorc life expectancy.

The Beast Tribe

- Cat: 138 years (72.6+204)/2 = 138.3 - Tiger: 132 years (72.6+192)/2 = 132.3 - Lion: 126 years (72.6+180)/2 = 126.3 - Wolf: 135 years (72.6+198)/2 = 135.3 - Average Branded life expectancy: 132 years (138.3+132.3+126.3)/3 = 132.3, 1–(72.6/132.3) = 0.45 = 45% longer lives than beorc

There is no information in-game for how long Wolf laguz live. Given that they are members of the Beast Tribe, I would expect their lifespan to be of a similar length. An interesting fact about the Wolf laguz is that they are weaker than the Tiger laguz, but stronger than the Cat laguz. Looking at strength vs. life expectancy, the weakest beasts, the Cats, live the longest, while the strongest beasts, the Lions, live the shortest. Treating strength and age as an inverse relationship rather than a coincidence, I placed the lifespan of the Wolf laguz at 198 years; however, because this is not a canon statistic, I excluded the Wolves from my calculation of the average Branded life expectancy.

The Bird Tribe

- Heron: 186 years (72.6+300)/2 = 186.3 - Raven: 141 years (72.6+210)/2 = 141.3 - Hawk: 140 years (72.6+207)/2 = 139.8 - Average Branded life expectancy: 156 years (186.3+141.3+139.8)/3 = 155.8, 1–(72.6/155.8) = 0.53 = 53% longer lives than beorc

The language on the Laguz Wiki page changed from saying ‘average’ or life expectancy’, as it did for the Beast and Dragon Tribes, to saying things such as, “They usually reach age 210″ for the Bird Tribe. For simplicity’s sake, I have kept the calculation the same, treating the given lifespan as a life expectancy. 72.6 years is an extremely generous number for human life expectancy prior to modern medicine besides. Apparently, back before germ theory, humans were lucky to live beyond thirty. I would expect the beorc to use Heal magic to treat many physical injuries that would have otherwise led them to an untimely death through blood loss, infection, or disability. Even with magic, given what we know about the plague in Daein, magic ain’t got nothin’ on infectious diseases and a lack of resources.

The Dragon Tribe

- Red Dragon: 537 years (72.6+1002)/2 = 537.3 - Black Dragon: 546 years (72.6+1020)/2 = 546.3 - White Dragon: 560 years (72.6+1050)/2 = 561.3 - Average Branded life expectancy: 548 years (537.3+546.3+561.3)/3 = 548.3, 1–(72.6/548.3) = 0.87 = 87% longer lives than beorc

It is important to note that there is only one Branded with Dragon heritage mentioned in canon: the child of Almedha and Ashnard. So technically, given this individual’s parentage, the most accurate estimate of his average lifespan would be 546 years. But this is all theory anyway.

This special individual is also the only Branded with one human and one laguz parent mentioned who is alive during the events of the games. The Branded are stated to mostly live quietly within beorc society, so we can assume most Branded individuals have much more human blood than laguz blood. Yet, we don’t know whether this potential dilution would impact the laguz powers the Branded receive. Maybe the average lifespan of the Branded (excluding the aforementioned child) is actually much closer to that of the beorc, and an average between beorc and laguz lifespans is insufficient when trying to figure out how long they live.

Another fallacy with my strategy comes from the Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance Memorial Book Tellius Recollection: The First Volume book, a collection of official documents regarding the worldbuilding and character design of Tellius. This book mentions that Branded with Black Dragon heritage have a lifespan of 185 years, those with Lion heritage, 94 years, and those with tiger heritage, 65 years. Yet the Branded Wiki page points out that these numbers “contradict in-game information about how the Branded and Laguz age”. So, I have avoided experimenting with these numbers.

Just for fun... (skip to avoid game spoilers)

Soren’s character designers stated that he is “physically” a sixteen year old in the games. If we take that literally, that would mean he is... 16/72.6 = 0.22 = 22% of the way through his life. If we use the suggested lifespan I calculated earlier, it could mean that Soren is... 0.22*546 = 120.3 years old! Obviously Soren being that old is impossible since he only discovered he was Branded during the events of the duology. I think Soren is actually sixteen at the start of Path of Radiance. Edit: I made a whole post about my investigation into how old Soren is and the answer is not sixteen. Read more here! I don’t know what the devs meant by “physically a sixteen-year-old”, but let’s be honest, Fire Emblem gets very sketchy with the “physical” ages of dragons, gods, and their direct descendants.

In conclusion,

none of this makes a whole lot of sense. Such is the way of Fire Emblem. But, I think these numbers are an alright guess of how long the Branded can be expected to live. If we substitute 30 years for the average beorc life expectancy, then Dragon heritage Branded live an average of 527 years, those descended from the Bird Tribe live an average of 135 years, and those descended from the Beast Tribe live an average of 111 years. Believe whatever you wish about the Branded, because at the end of the day, Tellius is a fictional place full of fun characters to project onto. Go wild.

This drabble is for @freesoulladyaic who requested it in the anger management universe. Enjoy!

Bloody fucking hells.

She couldn't believe it. Absolutely couldn't believe it.

She knew this would happen, she just expected it would be the Honourable Judge Jon Snow who would do it, not her. "Fuck, fuck, fuck," Dany cursed, spinning in circles in the middle of the Rocky Road to the Roaring River, which was the dumbest ride that the blasted amusement park actually had, but since her twins were still too little for the actual fun ones, it was the most entertaining option available to her.

All she did was let go of Lya's hand long enough to check her phone, which had gone off at least fifty times, the screen flashing with a photo of her sexy wolf in his boxing gear after winning a match in the annual Police vs. Prosecutors charity meet. The black and white photo of him ripping at his gloves, his chest gleaming with sweat, his dark curls riotous...she had to pause to take a breath whenever she saw it, and finally register that he had called her instead of texting-- also he had texted.

She snapped. "What?"

"Um, where are you?"

"At the entrance to that stupid river thing, Lya wanted to go again, where are you?"

"At the Loving Lion."

"What the fuck is that again?"

"Some creepy incestuous looking restaurant with those lion figures that look like siblings making out in the front."

"Why?"

"Aemon wanted to get another lion ice cream thing....um, can you meet me here?"

"Why?"

"Just do it. Love you!" Then he'd disconnected before she could figure out what the seven hells that was about. His voice had been strained, but so had hers. Because this was the day from one of those seven hells, probably the deepest one.

It was all because she had a series of interviews to conduct out in Lannisport for one of her big cases and the twins had been begging them to visit Lannister Land. She refused to give a cent to the corrupt Lannister family, so it kind of worked out that Jon had won a few tickets in a raffle thing at one of Rhaegar's gala events for the firm and he'd been invited to speak at the University of Lannisport law school about being a young judge and how he'd gotten there ("Just do your fucking job and odn't be a dick" was kind of his message). So, they'd flown out to surprise and treat the kids, while also making plans to commit self-flagellation and hurl themselves off the edge of Casterly Rock when they finished.

It was just the twins loved it and were so happy to get an entire day with them, nothing interrupting like having to have an emergency hearing at ten at night-- Jon had to do that during Lya's last martial arts meet-- or getting a call to bail out someone from jail-- Dany had to do that the last art festival with Aemon.

She just was freaking the fuck out because now Lyanna was gone! “Lya!" she shouted, panicking. She hurried down the path, thinking maybe she wanted to go on the ride alone. "Lya!"

"Can I help you?" a security guard that looked bloody terrifying with a scar on his face asked. He grunted. "You lose your kid?"

"No!" yes. She hesitated and ripped out her phone, turning a picture of Lya towards him. "Little girl, with dark curls, purple eyes, she's wearing a Winterfell Wolves t-shirt? Have you seen her?"

"Not many Wolves fans here>"

"That's not hte point!" She put the word out, her blood boiling, fear in her every step and breath. Oh my gods, she kept repeating even though she didn't believe in any gods, and if Jon's Old Gods were at all listening, to protect and find her baby girl, because she knew so many horror stories of what happened next.

The security guard-- Sandor-- called it in and she heard an announcement which sounded way too much like Tyrion Lannister to make her feel good at all, asking if anyone had seen a little girl in a Winterfell Wolves jersey and if her name was Lyanna Snow, to please report to the Family Reunification room at the welcome center.

She reached the stupidly named restaurant a few seconds later, seeing Jon frantically spinning around, speaking with someone who looked just as horrible looking as the other man named Gregor and he rounded on her when he saw her. It was too late for her to try to hide anything, since Lyanna's name had just gone out, and at the same time, they both exclaimed:

"I lost our child!"

Anger she tried to always keep well controlled began to course through her, warming her from the inside out, heating the fear to explosion levels. "You want?" she snapped at him, at hte same time he shouted: "You WHAT!?"

"I lost our child!" they shouted again.

Jon pushed his fingers through his curls; they went up into a giant frizzy halo, one she would have made fun of him for if the situation were not so dire. "You lost Lyanna?" he demanded, voice soft, deadly.

In the same deadly, threathtening tone, she replied: "You lost Aemon?"

She was going to kill him; Aemon was the easy one of their twins! He never went anywhere without holding their hands, was scared of his own shadow, and routinely needed to be pulled away from his sister because Lyanna tended to beat him up since he was so sweet and gentle he never fought back. She took sevel breaths, her fingers pushed to the bridge of her nose. She was going to cry.

Then she was going to kill ihm.

"Where was he last?" she asked.

Jon had other questions. "How did you lose Lyanna!?" he exclaimed.

"Shut up! Not hte time for judging, YOUR HONOR!"

Her phone began to ring, at hte same time Jon's did. They both looked at them and answered at the same time: "Hello?"

"Hey Mommy."

"LYANNA!" she screeched, positively apoplectic, while Jon was bellowing into his phone: "Aemon I swear to the Old Gods...."

Her daughter, bless her little heart, was completely calm, almost bored. "Uh, we have to call you. We're in jail."

My gods I didn't think I would get this call until she was sixteen. She exhaled hard, her shoulders slumping. It was exhausting, this parenting thing, she would rather be arguing a case before her husband. "Alright, darling, where are you? Is there an adult?" The phone scuffled and a bored voice took on the phone. She didn't wait for introductions. "Where are my children?!"

"Lost and found, Welcome Center."

Dany didn't wait for anything else, shoving her phone into her crossbody bag and grabbing Jon's hand, dragging him away from Gregor, who got into a golf cart she couldn't believe could hold his weight, and zoomed away.

At the Welcome Center, she stormed through, people pointing in the correct direction and they exploded into a little room with plastic castles and lion toys, her twins seemingly enjoying themselves laughing and running in and out of one of the forts. For all her anger, fear, and embarrassment, she melted at the sight of her babies, the two of them the living embodiment of her heart ripped in two and meant to live outside of her chest.

She grabbed each one, ignoring their protests and attempts to wriggle away from her, sobbing and clutching. "Lyanna! Aemon! Oh gods! You're alright, you're safe!" She kissed their dark heads, inhaling their scent-- ice cream, sweat, bubble gum shampoo, and sunscreen-- a combination that would be disgusting but at the moment was the sweetest thing. She cried, grabbing their faces, checking them over for scratches, bumps, bruises, and basically anything she could find to try to sue Lannister Land because they were horrible. “Oh my gods, where did you go? Why did you run off? How did you both find each other?"

They glanced at each other, Jon immediately seeing it. "No," he warned instantly. He pursed his lips, ever the judge. "You do not get a chance to get your stories synced. I want to hear from Aemon first."

The weak link, she figured. Aemon sighed, Lyanna shooting him a dark, warning glare. He swallowed hard. "We wanted to go to the gold mine ride....so we...got away." They were freaking four-years old, they couldn't ride the gold mine ride underneath "Casterly Mountain" because they weren't tall enough, but of course they thought that it was becuase they just wouldn't let them.

Jon arched a brow. "And how did you think to get over the height restriction?"

Lyanna shrugged.

Dany narrowed her eyes; Lyanna was tall for her age, but.... "Let me see your feet," she demanded. She pointed. "Take off your shoes."

Her daughter swished her lips a second and then lifted her chin and primly chirped: "I want a lawyer."

Oh my gods this is my daughter and I love her so much. Dany almost burst into tears again, just so emotional.

"Motion denied, you have no rights in the Court of Muna and Daddy," her calm, collected Judge said. He crossed his arms, jerking his head to the door. "Alright, we're leaving now. Thank the Lannister jail people here for housing you in well maintained conditions. You are denied access to the river ride and you will not have extra ice cream."

Aemon pouted. "I didn't wanna'! She made me!" He grunted when Lyanna elbowed him. He spun on her and pushed her hard, knocking her sideways and then swung his foot out, in a perfect sweep, but Lyanna was too fast, jumping up to avoid it. She tried to swing out again, but Jon hauled her up, throwing her over his shoulder.

"Enough! Let's go! Naptime!"

"I don't wanna'!" she sobbed, although she desperately needed a nap.

As did Dany, she thought, sighing and nudging Aemon towards the door. "Nice kick my little dragon."

They exited the Lost and Found, thanking the creepo at the front Lancel for whatever help he likely did not actually provide. She wanted to get her babies back to the hotel as fast as possible, then preferably on the first plane out of the hellish West Province. She didn't like being near these Lannister people. Gods forbid Tyrion found out she had been at one of his family's money scam ventures. She shuddered at the thought.

They walked by the two security guards, the massive mountain Gregor and the scarred Sandor, who nodded to her, not saying a word, but a small smile pulling on his face, pleased she hoped that she'd located her daughter. She smiled briefly. "Thank you!

"Sure," he gruffly replied.

Gregor snorted. "Wouldn't need to help if you kept track. Stupid parents."

"Uh oh," the twins and Jon all said in unison.

She stared at him, her eyelids lowering to slits. "What did you say?" she murmured. Her free hand flexed at her side. Lyanna immediately let go of her other hand, grabbing hold of Jon's. She barely noticed, fixing on the man who must have been at least three feet taller than her. Size didn't matter to her. If it did, she probably wouldn't have married Jon, he was shorter than her previous boyfriends.

He must have been stupid, because even Sandor moved away, giving the other man a wide berth. He rose to his full height, snorting again; he stank. "Stupid parent. Losing kid." He guffawed and reached to tap his meaty finger on her shoulder, pushing it back. Behind her Jon inhaled sharply and Lyanna gasped. He laughed. "Dumb blonde girl."

Fire flared. She could not see anything.

"Say that again."

And he did.

"You owe me."

"I owe you nothing," Dany sniffed, gliding out of the Lannisport County Police Department, holding her plastic bag with her purse and other pocket items, along with a fresh t-shirt from a Lannister Land gift shop-- since hers was ruined and covered in blood. She lifted on her toes to kiss her husband-- and lawyer-- who just bailed her out of jail for assault and disorderly conduct. They wanted to slap on something called "Conduct Unbecoming a Person" but when Jon had a conversation with someone at the courthouse about Lannister conduct, they dropped that one.

In fact, they dropped all charges against her after Jon had some conversations. Dany was happy to spend her time in jail, attend her arraignment, and fight any and all charges against her as was the way of the Westeros legal system, but when her husband made mention of Gregor Clegane's initial assault on her person by pushing her and his general ill manner with a guest of Lannister Land, the company declined to press the issue.

He shook his head, amused. "I thought we had your anger issues under control, love."

"There's no control on my anger when someone accuses me of being a bad parent."

"Absolutely." He wrapped his arm around her shoulders. "Let's get the seven hells out of this shitty province."

Dany tilted her face up, puckering her lips. "What are the terms of my release?"

"You never show your face in Lannister Land ever again."

"Banned from Lannister Land? Oh the horror."

He pressed his lips to hers in a swift, hard kiss, as they approached the rental car. He broke away, murmuring suggestively. "But we couldn't even try to make out on the Lion Twins Ride."

"That ride always freaked me out, those brother and sister twin lion cubs were way too close."

"Too bad, we'll have to find another theme park to fuck in. So I declare."

Dany giggled, climbing into the car. "Yes Your Honor.”

A kid at Mortimer’s school has thrown himself off the roof. Everyone is freaking out, and trying to deal with the situation, while Mortimer wants this all to just pass as quickly as possible. It wasn’t like he was close to the kid who died, so there’s no reason to be concerned, or to even care? …Right?

Themes/Elements: Dealing with loss/grief, Suicide/Depression/Mental Health & Healing MC Race/Ethnicity: White  Other Characters: Topher, the love interest, is Pakistani-American. Mortimer’s ex girlfriend is black.

Other Diversity: Topher is Canonically Pansexual, Mortimer realizes he’s bisexual throughout the story, Many characters suffer with depression, and depression/suicide/suicidal thoughts are a huge part of the themes of the story, and coping with those feelings.
